They offer great plans for pet coverage (care club). Vet answered alot of my questions and made recommendations for food, trainers, and potty training. Only down side is you are locked in for 12 months if you do decide to go for the care club and cannot upgrade once a plan is chosen. All in all, still a very great place to take your pets.

Money, money, money. The main focus of their practice, in spite of some truly wonderful staff.

Everyone was very helpful, especially the front desk. However, it is expensive, owning an animal and having to take them to the vet.

Dr.s and staff were phenomenal with providing information, comfort, and just all around satisfaction and happiness. Great service!

Joe Susco

Always impressed with the staff here. They are beyond kind and caring. Dr. Hopkins is always great with our animals. Really great place.

Chip Thomas

Fantastic vet care for Ginger, the Wonder Dog !

Pam Sodano

The vet there charged me an outrageous amount just for a worm pill and antibiotic. I was worried about my pet so went along. Later realized that I could have paid one tenth as much for the same thing but at the time I didn't realize, so I got taken advantage of. And my cat suffered becaue I could not get him the care he needed after I wasted so much money here.

We had to take our 14.5 year old mixed breed dog to VCA Lewis the day after Thanksgiving for an emergency visit. We were certain we would not be bring our "puppy" home, she was not even able to walk. We got lucky and the Vet that saw our dog was Dr. Krug!!! Let me tell you she is amazing!!! To make a long story short, we brought our dog home and she is doing fabulous, we call her our "miracle puppy". We never thought we'd leave our former vet back in Montgomery County, but after Dr. Krug and the the wonderful staff, we have decided to keep our dog at VCA. We haven't met any of the other veterinarians, but Dr. Krug I would recommend to anyone!

marcus blumenfeld

The staff here is super friendly.

Sridhar Chatrathi

Very disturbed by the fact my dog was misdiagnosed as having a "CCL" tear by Dr. Krug and after taking the dog to a specialty hospital realized that our dog actually has bone cancer and needs to have his hind leg amputated. Lack of competence is disturbing.

We brought our almost-12 year old dog to this vet in an emergency situation, as he was declining rapidly over the course of only a few hours. Dr. Wenzel was very sympathetic of our sweet pup and explained to us what he was going through and that he was in a lot of pain. She also explained that he could have surgery but that it was not guaranteed that he would survive it and that it would be very costly. We decided the best option was to put our pup down, and Dr. Wenzel and the staff were wonderful. We were distraught and they allowed us as much time as we needed to say goodbye. They explained everything as they did it and were gentle with him. While we were a bit dazed and in shock as we left (we hadn't expected the outcome upon arrival), we will be bringing our younger dog here for vet services going forward - we were both impressed and thankful for how they handled everything for us.

This place is great especially Dr Hebner for my 2 German Shepard dogs. Dr Hebner is one of the few vets who will see my 130 lb GSD without a muzzle. He truly understands dogs! I wont go anywhere else unless it's truly an emergency and I have been to at least 5 other vets.

Love the hospital with the exception of one of the techs (can’t remember her name).. anyhow, the people there are always very tentative and try to help you as much as you can. Jodie and Chrystal( office manager) are AMAZING individuals. Very friendly and caring about your pet. My dog recently got neutered and his area looked infected. Instead of doing the drive I was told I could send pictures of his incision and the next day I could go pick up his antibiotics. Little things like that are really important to me, especially when you are on a very busy schedule. If you get a chance take a look at their first free visit online and you MUST purchase the deodorizer candles they have in store! THEY ARE THE BOMB! within just a few minutes your house will smell spectacular.

We love VCA Lewis Animal Hospital. At one point we'd decided to go to the VCA in Columbia because it was closer to our home. We changed our minds because we loved the staff and our dog, Braveart's, doctor, Dr. Myers. They have been wonderful

Erin Harrison

I recently moved away, but will continue to patronize VCA Lewis despite the drive. All of the Doctors I have interacted with over the 8 years since I moved to the area have been top notch, Dr. Hebner (my usual doctor) takes his time, obviously adores animals, notices the smallest things (when my friend brought his cat here, Dr Hebner noted a tiny mass that the oncologist later commented would have been overlooked by most vets), takes into account owner preferences (I am one of those owners super picky about healthy food choices, only necessary vaccines, etc), is skilled with exotics (he was wonderful with my rats), and truly stays involved in the lives of the pets (my dog had to go in for multiple procedures and visits with a specialist and Dr. Hebner routinely called to follow up, check in, and answer questions). I cannot speak highly enough. The staff is also fantastic, each is a personality and some more gregarious than others, but they all show interest in the animals, know the pets and people by name (even on surprise visits), and take good care of you. They are pricey (I understand that is typical of VCA animal hospitals, plus they are in the Columbia area), but I know they are worth every penny.

You saved our Chihuhua's life Monday by doing delicate intestine surgery. She is now home and eating and looks great. We are forever indebted to you all. Thank you so much.

I found a stray cat living outside of my apartment. She was starving both literally and also for affection. I wanted to find her a vet and get her checked out quickly so that I could bring her inside as it was starting to get very cold. The clinic saw me that morning and were very sweet to my fragile and damaged kitty. They even held her for the day so that they could get a proper urine sample. I will definitely be returning.

This is an amazing animal hospital. I love the staff and the doctors. If you own Sugar Gliders, Dr. hebner is definitely the doctor you want to see. He knows his stuff and is able to take care of these Animals. He is also Amazing with my dogs. However, all of the doctors and staff here are wonderful.

IF I COULD MARK NO STAR AS AN OPTION I WOULD. Our 8MONTH OLD dog Rileigh was in VCA Lewis on 5/22/17 to be spayed, she was just put to sleep this morning because her incision opened and her insides fell out. When my parents called to get emergency assistance from VCA Lewis they were told to take her to the pet ER that was closest. We were also told that in order for her to be saved by VCA Lewis my parents needed to come up with $4000.00 to $6000.00 due at the time to fix her. They were unwilling to do payment arrangements or even to bill none the less fix whatever had ruptured ,Meanwhile VCA Lewis is were she had her surgery to begin with on 5/22/17. But because the Animal Advocates voucher does not cover the surgery our Rileigh now needed to keep here alive there was nothing else that could be done for her. The ER vet explained that their cost is the same and there was no guarantee that our Rileigh would still survive. With a very heavy heart we then deduced that the best and only decision we could make, was to allow for the ER vet to put her down. BROKEN HEARTEDLY I wonder if we didn't use Funding to have our Rileigh spayed she would still be here with us.

They rescheduled my appointment after i got there with my pet was given a room and was waiting for the vet for 30 minutes.why?because i was 15 minutes late and i called them in a head of time and informed them , they told me that it would be fine and i should just come in.Will not go there ever again.......

I've been taking Franklin (dog) and Leia (cat) here for years and absolutely love them. Leia had some health issues that were going to be a bit pricey and they were nonjudgmental, understanding, and so helpful. With their payment plans I was able to get her the care she needs. With Franklin, he has pretty intense vet anxiety. They are so patient and accommodating to make sure he gets the care he needs as trauma-less as possible. I call with a lot of questions and not once have I received attitude. The staff is amazing. Highly recommend

Douglas Rhodovi

I like their medical and boarding, and grooming. Their fee for filling prescriptions I do not like.

Nick Arthur

VCA Lewis is a wonderful animal hospital. The courteous, compassionate, and empathetic staff made a difficult time for us easier to bear. We cannot thank them enough for the care we received. Dr. Hebner is a very kind, gentle, and knowledgeable vet who specializes in "exotics" (small mammals and the like, in our case, our little hedgehog). In addition to the excellent staff, they also have very convenient hours and a very nice office. After the care we received, I couldn't imagine going anywhere else.

James Bellefontaine

Tail wags when we pull in. Quality of care is high.

They make new patients feel welcome the place is clean and the free coffee is a plus

Kianna Cooper

Very friendly staff and super clean facility. Vets and vet assistants are very knowledgeable and good at what they do.

Danielle Affinito

This is the only place I consider bringing my dog. Dr Krug has never steered us wrong

Marc Wilson

I only used their kennel/boarding service but they were hands down the best of all the animal services I visited. It goes way beyond simple cleanliness. Their staff was top notch. This place is staffed by professionals and vets. 5 stars.

My cats stayed here for the weekend I got married. They took great care of them both, and gave me a tour of the boarding spaces before I booked them. I liked having both cats at a hospital so there was staff on hand if anything happened while I was out of town. Picked them up a day early, and the staff was simply wonderful and accommodating. My cats normal go to VCA Center Park, and they shared files with Lewis so I knew they had all the info they needed. Wonderful.

Let me say first that I had an excellent experience with the veterinary side of this practice. If it were only that, my review would be 5 stars. As for the missing two stars - this is fully based on my experience with how this practice handled the VCA Care Club (pay monthly for a set number of services). When I moved 9 months ago I told them I wanted to cancel the Care Club (this is allowed in the contract) and they TALKED ME OUT OF IT. They made it sound like I could transfer the Care Club to a new VCA location, which is untrue. When I found this out and called to discuss with them, the office manager told me they couldn't refund any of the money I've wasted since then. I wouldn't have posted this review had it been my own fault for not knowing the terms of the contract. It's the fact that they talked me out of exercising the contract's exit clause, collected money they knew I couldn't use, and then made it sound like my fault for not cancelling back in June. This felt dishonest (though I don't know that this was their intention), and I just wanted to recommend that you either not do the Care Club, or be very careful about cancelling immediately if you move.

Pricey but it's the gold standard

Customer service is very unprofessional people answering phone calls are very rude. When you are a customer and paying every month $200, and have a question about your puppy you don’t just tell them to come in and wait for 3 hours and hang up the phone on a customer.

S. Nucci

Vca provides great veterinary care and thorough exams. They can be a bit more pricey then other vets.

Dr. Kanakry continues to be a hero for my cats. He goes above and beyond each and every time. We have had to deal with some unusual and potentially devastating issues and Dr. Kanakry has ensured that we had the best possible information and care, including other specialists. All the techs and staff have been marvelous, warm and caring. Al has been particularly thoughtful. Other doctors there have also been fantastic and I can't imagine going any where else. Thanks to everyone at VCA Lewis!

Eric Frazier

I've tried several vets and VCA Lewis has surpassed them all. The fact that they are open until 10PM is an incredible convenience and makes it easy to schedule appointments that fit my schedule. Dr. Hebner is a wonderful vet who has always been gentle and kind, and is also experienced with exotics. I recently had to have a pet put to sleep due to a terminal condition, and Dr. Hebner and the entire staff were very caring and made a difficult process as easy as possible.

Our dog has been treated here for a year. Great service and good people. Very happy with them.

Brooke Evans

Very friendly staff. They filled out the prescription incorrectly - twice

Marissa Miller

We love Dr Hebner! Our dogs love him, always wagging tails even in the vets room! The prices may be lower elsewhere but I don't believe you'll get the same level of care and love than from this vets office! Everyone is so friendly and patient. Would recommend

I've had 2 dogs neutered and 1 dog spayed here. The staff is amazing. They take their time and explain everything. They are so nice and answer all questions without hesitation. I definitely would recommend.

I booked an appointment for boarding and ended up spending $350+ due to the front desk either lacking communication skills or courtesy. I was told my dog needed a shot that she did not really need to have done, and was charged for exams that I was told would be covered under her insurance, ONLY to pick her up and be told none of it was covered under her insurance. Called to speak to a manager, asked to get the manager direct line and she doesn't know it. Asked to get the managers email and she doesn't know that either. I decided to leave a voicemail and still haven't received a phone call back. I generally love VCA, however this has put a sour taste in my mouth and Ill probably never walk in their doors again. DISGUSTED.

Tonight I had to take my dog to be euthanized. As hard as that is all of the staff we're considerate, supportive and accommodating. I am greatful for everyone I encountered in such a hard time.

While I think the staff is competent they are completely unwilling to tolerate questions or take owner finances into consideration. Front desk staff are dismissive of questions and will only ask followup questions of the vet when pressed. Interactions on the phone are curt, bordering upon rude. Nice facility, but I'd rather interact with more caring, less abrasive staff that truly listens to the customer.

I can't praise VCA Lewis enough! The peace of mind I have knowing that they care about Tucker and have helped him through his most bizarre medical problems really can't be quantified. Thanks VCA Lewis team for always fitting him in and taking good care of my boy!

Dr. John Hebner is the best! I started to take my yellow lab mix/terrier for her senior wellness visits when I started working there back in 2010 & continued taking her there after I left in 2012, even though it was at least a 20 minute drive. I was so happy with the care he provided my "Soda" from the age of 7 through her final breath when she was 14 years 8 months old on 12/27/17. He is a fantastic vet & I'm glad Soda & I got to meet such a wonderful vet & person. I will definitely take any new dogs I adopt to him for all their needs. Everyone else is so nice as well. Great place with great vets & staff.

Decent service, but they always push an upcharge.

Kyann Holman

My dogs like their vet and the facility is nice and modern. The Dr. was helpful and knowledgeable and treats my pets well. Their in-house insurance covers a lot of different necessary things and as far as I can tell, their rates for vaccines and other routine things are similar to other vets in the area.

Morgan

I absolutely love these guys. They have never treated us and our dogs with anything less than total compassion. When one of our dogs died, multiple staff members sent sympathy cards.

Anne Amaya

I love this place. I first found then when my poor dog had issues with her anal glands and they fit her in immediately. I've been going to them ever since. Last night, my pup had issues with her throat (collapsing trachea) that didn't resolve within 10 minutes. It was about 6:30 at night and I called VCA. They fix my baby in immediately, took care of her, and calmed me down as well. Dr. Wenzel is the BEST. She always takes her time to explain what happened, give reasons as to why it could've happened, and helps with preventative measures. Her "bedside" manner is fantastic and she's so gentle with my dog.

Bev McKitt

The doctors are caring and always treated our puppy like she was the highlight of their day. When emergencies arose, they were prompt in responding and tenderly and professionally addressed her every need. Communications were great and the doctors themselves called to keep you apprised .

Jay Bartgis

Staff members were highly trained and motivated.

Robert Starks

Longtime experts at executive animal care. Staff Is Exemplary! Chloe missing King DVM Dr. Kanakrar, As he has semi-retired. Great Care.

When I found lumps on my aging dog, I took her to this vet for the first time. They got me in quickly and explained all of the testing options by reliability and cost. Our vet was kind and patient, exactly what I needed. After a moderate amount of testing and increasing symptoms, it was clear that we needed to make an appointment to put our girl down. I can't imagine how hard it is to do their job. They handled her, the situation and my loss in the best way possible. They granted me an open ended amount of time with her and gave lots of options along the way to make us both as comfortable as possible. I'm extremely thankful for the staff and their kindness during a difficult time.

My four cats and I were victims of the Ellicott City flood on May 27th. I was forced to evacuate within 5 minutes and was not given time to gather my cats. I was told that I may be able to get back in within one week and to leave as much food and water out as possible, which is what I did. I was on the second floor so the danger of them being hurt by further flooding was minimal. I had no idea what I was going to do with them once I got them out. I could not take them to the hotel where I was staying (provided by Howard County). Unfortunately, I didn’t have much in the way of financial means as I’d recently had high medical expenses. Somehow amid all the temporary madness of post flood assistance I got a message from someone stating that there was a place which could take Ellicott City flood victim pets at no charge for a period of time. Thank God! I was granted a “Micro-Mission” by the County to extract my cats several days after the flood. I was able to get 3 of 4 right away and finally the 4th one, who was hiding behind the refrigerator for several days. They stayed at VCA Lewis in Columbia (Clarksville Pike) for over one month! I came to visit them almost every night and obviously got to know the awesome staff here. They were just OUTSTANDING! These situations are incredibly stressful as I had no idea when or if I’d ever get back in to my home again. I did. I’m am SO grateful for everything they did for these animals – again – at no charge for flood victim animals! Services which would have cost thousands of dollars, which I just did not have at this time. I can assure you I will be returning when any of my pets need treatment or boarding (as a paying customer). Thank you SO very much!
