Dr . Franklin is a wonderful person and veterinarian and has exemplary ppl skills, and gave us the opportunity to thoroughly discuss our cat's medical problems and didn't recommend an unnecessary surgery, just to pad his wallet. Rarely do you find a doctor, who cares more about the patients and their families, than getting rich, instead. I would highly recommend his services and his hospital to anyone who has a pet care need. He is the BEST!!.......Sincerely, Cissy and Richard M.

It has taken me 2 years to write this review but I wanted to see if my perspective changed as grief makes one think terrible things. Yes it is true this is a lovely office & clients are treated very sweetly & like we are all best friends - that does not make a good vet practice. I dutifully add that I Loved Dr Sollenberger & she was my regular vet & would continue to be so if she was not at this office. Unfortunately I had an emergency & Dr S was not available. I will be kind & not name the dr I dealt with. At any rate dealing with Dr S all these years had built up a high level of my unquestioning trust & loyalty to this office. My 13yo Yorkie with kidney disease fell off the couch & hit her face. Some swelling & a lot of pain, not so traumatic that I was thinking death. 2 days & almost $1,000 later she was dead. Please finish reading I am not just a disgruntled vindictive patient, It has taken me 2 years to decide to share my story. What I take issue with is why would a Dr recommend a non-necessary exploratory surgery on a 13yo tiny frail Yorkie with kidney disease except for $ (this was during the height of their renovations). My dog was in a lot of pain when I took her in & wheezing, this dr said just keep an eye on her. 24 hours later still continuous crying & wheezing so I took her back in & this time I requested an X-ray. Dr said they would have to put her under anesthesia I said do it because at this point the pain hasn’t lessened i need to know for sure nothings broken. I am poor but I will pay anything to help those I love including my 4-legged love. So an after thought right before I was leaving dr said let me check something, & felt around in her mouth & said oh I feel something (keep in mind this is the 2nd exam which she hadn’t thought to do the 1st time I brought her in just as an X-ray never crossed her mind). Said, I feel a lump, at her age it could be cancer, since she’s going to be under let’s do a biopsy since it just so happens dr Franklin(?) will be here (he’s the only one that does surgeries?). I panicked at hearing the C word & said yes ok. I picked her up that evening & didn’t even recognize her, her tiny little beautiful face was so badly swollen & mauled from the surgery. She was crying very loudly & urinating on me. I asked dr to do something about the pain, advised because of her kidney disease only very minimal pain meds could be administered. Why didn’t U tell me that BEFORE She had Unnecessary SURGERY?! Pain Management is Important. I took her home since she couldn’t stay there alone overnight. 40 min later she was dead. I believed & 2 yrs later still believe now this Dr intentionally took this opportunity to exploit my fear & my love, my trust & my willingness to do anything for my love which I foolishly said out loud to get more $ out of me. I know hindsight is everything but come on, an ailing 13yo 3 lb Yorkie with kidney disease in the midst of a impact trauma u recommend Unnecessary surgery & in the same area the trauma is in, knowing full well u cannot administer adequate pain management??!!!! & swelling at the trauma site u label as Cancer?! For me This was that one dog you connect with in a lifetime. She had developed kidney disease years back but I fought for her so hard & tried everything that her kidney disease had halted - it never goes away but u can stop it from getting worse which it had - I had prepared myself for her imminent death but not like this, in such pain & fear & confusion, I torture myself wondering if she wondered why I put her thru all that pain. All because of GREED. I’ve learned one must aggressively self advocate, get 2nd opinions, always question, no matter how much u trust & I live with that guilt forever that I didn’t do that for my best friend. & Very annoying they Still mail me reminder cards for her, which everytime I get to cry all over again - like now reliving her death but I needed to get this out for her

This is a very caring practice that is expanding to take care of more animals. I am very happy with the care my dogs have received. However, I am concerned with the $60.00 per dog office visit charge.

Followed Dr. Franklin (Owner) from several locations, for the past 25 years ... Excellent doctor... Has hired the right staff... He recently remodeled and enlarged his business some more. He's doing something right if more and more folks want to deal with his business. Him and his staff have taken care of our furbabies, professionally and compassionately over the years. We only recommend this place for your furbabies.

Richard Mulligan

Dr. Franklin is the absolute most honest, humble, and kind veterinary doctor and person, that I've had the pleasure of meeting. He was very honest in my cat's problem not being bad enough to require surgery, while another, previous vet, couldn't wait to do unnecessary surgery. My family was impressed, educated about the problem and we all went home confident that our cat will be just fine. What a refreshing and lovely person he is, and the animals and their families really benefit from his 30+ years experience. Make no mistake, he really is the best vet in Hagerstown!!......Cissy M.

I can't say enough wonderful things about this office and staff! We had been going to another vet in North Hagerstown for years. Our dog developed a mass in his neck in January 2018. The vet there insisted we wait for changes in his voice, etc. I took him back again a few weeks later still concerned and was given the same advice. As we watched this mass growing and getting more concerned, a few months later, I called the office to order bloodwork I thought he needed. All his bloodwork fortunately came back normal and was told the only next thing to do was a CT scan for $1400 in VA if I wanted to move forward. Of course, we did. We got beautifully clear photos of this mass but still no definitive diagnosis but it was inoperable due to location and size at this point. I finally told that office we were going to pursue care elsewhere for him for palliative care. In August, I did some internet searching and came across Dr. Sollenberger who has an interest in cancer patients so I made appointment thinking she would at least know the proper medications to put him on for pain when the time came. She couldn't have been more helpful and immediately biopsied it and had Dr Franklin look at him (mass is now about baseball size). They both felt it had good margins and was operable. The biopsy came back thyroid tumor so we decided to operated. It was extremely risky surgery but the office and doctors could not have been more wonderful with him. We are now two weeks post op, and he's doing wonderful. We still have to figure out next course of treatment as the pathology determined it was cancerous as suspected. The lesson I learned in all this is please don't wait to get a second opinion. If a vet is telling you to wait and see but your gut is telling you that's the wrong course of treatment, seek a consult here before its too late or becomes an extremely dangerous surgery. Thank you Dr Franklin for having the courage to do the surgery and Dr Sollenberger for doing something to help Maverick. Thank you to the staff for taking such good care of him and especially the staff member I took out my frustration out on over all the poor vet care and guidance we had received in the past at the other office. You guys are amazing! May God bless each one of you.

Jeremy C.

Great all around. My dog is a pound puppy and the staff is very understanding to his aggressive behavior depending on if other dogs are around. I was offered a office to wait in which always helps. Thanks for the care and being cool with all types of dogs!

Absolutely amazing place! I can honestly say that we had tried several other veterinarian places before coming here and nothing compares. The level of professionalism and caring is above and beyond any place else in the tri-state area. This is the hand of God working for the good of all his creatures. Every single employee has been wonderful to work with. Our Pit had surgery on her leg and comes in for therapy once a week, she loves it! It's like extra attention play time and she is excited everytime we pull into the parking lot. This is the one and only place for our pets! Proverbs 12:10 “Whoever is righteous has regard for the life of his beast, but the mercy of the wicked is cruel.”

Always a pleasure to deal with. Staff is amazing. Dr. Grace is the best.

I have been going here for well over 15 years and 6 dogs. The Drs. are so caring to all animals that come in there doors. They go well above the needs for all. The staff is so polite to your pets and you. If your pet is hurt or very sick during business hours and you call they will ask you to bring them in that day. You can bet the next day they will call you and check up on your baby. I remember the two most beautiful dogs Grace and Reba always looking for treats. I carried with me and Dr. Franklin caught me giving to them he said they needed to loose weight. I said you don't say no to the UPS lady. Well Grace and Reba won. I just love taking my babies there. GREAT JOB

They focus on kind, compassionate, professional care, which is why I switched to Mid-Atlantic with my new pom. I can take her to a groomer or find someone to watch her if I am out of town...I want vets who focus directly on the health and welfare of my pom, and put all of their expertise and resources into her care. Which is exactly what they do. I'm very happy that I chose MAVH. -Jill Crayne
