A very good vet.

I have been coming to this vet for almost a year. Dr. Adelman is a great vet who is very thorough and knowledgeable. He puts the animal first, and clearly knows what he is talking about. The facility is clean and friendly.

Fast, friendly staff, never had any problems

Our dog has been a regular here for 3+ years. Regular shots and routine medications are well managed including reminder postcards. When our dog suffered an injury to his leg the treatment was well managed. Charges seemed reasonable. This establishment compares favorably with other local vets that we have used. I cannot speak to the grooming operation which appears to be an independent occasional 3rd party.

Suave Paperchazn

Worst hospital ever please don’t come here. This man does not know what he is doing.

Emily Frantz

Possibly the WORST vet in the greater D.C. area. The staff here is nice enough but the head vet has no patience for animal behavior (despite being a VET). Please, if you care about your pet's health and well being, for the love of god take them ANYWHERE ELSE.

Nicole Davis

We love bringing our dog here. Very friendly and responsive staff. They can always fit us in. I especially like how they are open on Saturdays.

Wardell Parker

Thoughtful professional service. The front desk staff I've met have been very caring, especially Adriana. But even better is Adelman. This vet manages that fine line of expert diagnosis and advice without insistence. He involves you in your pet's care decisions, considering your needs and input carefully. He's examined our two kitties, an aging cat with a inoperable growth, and a young kitten. We are very pleased. PS: Parking is great, waiting room clean.

I first came to this clinic about 7 years ago when my cat had a severe UTI and the vet was compassionate and since I didn't have money offered to put the cat down. The cat was quite sick. I was so angry I asked for other alternatives and he suggested the MoCo Emergency clinic-- so I went there and they stabilized my cat and gave me hope that we could ride it out and he might get better. However, I always harbored some ill will towards Layhill Animal Hospital. Fast forward--we move blocks from this clinic and I still refused to take my pets there. I think I had this negative opinion because of the emotions surrounding that particular day, but when I reflect on it, this vet is the one who recommended the other clinic as an alternative that ended up being the solution I wanted. My UTI cat is still alive 7 years later. I went to the other vet in Aspen Hill and the same cat needed a teeth cleaning. They wanted to charge $1200 for a teeth cleaning... I remembered that Layhill Animal Hospital had reasonable rates for vaccines and other stuff so I brought my cat back to them for a 2nd opinion. They agreed he needed a cleaning, but they were only charging a few hundred dollars. It was such a price difference-- like less than half and more services! So I kept coming for routine checks and what not and have nothing but good things to say. The staff are friendly and caring. The vet is easy going, great with pets especially distressed ones and knowledgeable. He is also not money hungry and provides alternatives that are easier on your pocket. We did eventually lose one of our other pets and the whole process was handled so sympathetically--we really appreciated it. The clinic even made a donation in honor of our pet to a non-profit animal research organization. We were very touched by that.

Dr. Adelman performed extensive surgery to drain and remove a hematoma on our dog's ear and she recovered well. He had a very professional manner and was available after hours on a Friday or a holiday weekend to take our call to address a minor concern. We recommend him and his practice.

Deborah Baumel

We love Dr Adleman and the Layhill Animal Hospital. We have been bringing our dogs here for years. Dr Adelman cared for our dear Australian Shepherd, Genevieve until the ripe old age of 13.5. His care continues with our beloved Roxie.

Hanna Paglione

If you care about your animal at all, DO NOT BRING THEM TO THIS DIRTY, AWFUL, INCOMPETENT place. It's so bad here that you would think you are watching a Saturday Night Live skit. You will be overcharged, your animal will be poorly cared for and the vet himself needs to go back to school. Do not go here. YOU WILL REGRET IT.

Terri Philbrick

Dr. Adelman has been the Veterinary Doctor for 3 cats and 1 dog of mine over the past 30 years. He's never been anything but kind, thorough, and competent. The staff is, also, more than kind. The charges are very competitive, as well. I'm not sure that everyone realizes that to be a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine is very difficult. It is very difficult to get into a Veterinary School. They treat many different breeds of animals, and those animals can't talk, to tell them their symptoms. If we took time to look at the cost of going to our own M.D.'s or Dentists (and, emergency rooms), we may be more appreciative of the fees charged by Veterinarians. Dr. Adeleman always makes a personal phone call to let you know how your pet did during any procedure (teeth cleaning, surgery, lab work, etc.) that you aren't present for. Most doctors have their staff make those calls. He is on call 24/7. How many of your physicians take calls in the middle of the night, instead of using an answering service? Recently, my dog of almost 15 was examined by Dr. A. She was very sick. He immediately, and personally, called a Veterinary Cardiologist to arrange for them to see my dog right away, before he even spoke with me. That, my pet owners, is first class care. I am a health care provider, and I can appreciate first hand, what it takes to be a good and compassionate clinician. Sometimes we are exhausted from taking care of emergencies and difficult cases. Those who care about ALL of their patients, like Dr. A. does, will rise above their exhaustion and still give each patient 100%. And, finally, don't forget each of the staff members who help make it possible for the doctors to do this. I'd give them each six stars, if I could!

I absolutely love this animal hospital, the Staff and Dr. Adelman! We had to bring in my moms kitty who is 17 years old and has had several health issues. The Staff is so professional, warm, caring and knowledgeable. I'm convinced Dr. Adelman is the has got to be one of the best Veterinarian in the world. I've had cats for over 20 years and lived in NY, FL, GA, VA, MD and Holland. I have no words for how grateful I am of him and the rest of the Staff. I relocated in Maryland and live further from their office. Due to not being able to get my moms cat in around my neighborhood I ended up at Layhill and so happy I did. My moms kitty had to get X-rays, labs and was blocked with fecal matter. We had to leave him there due to the amount of things he needed done. He's already looking better and much more comfortable. Their pricing is also very fair. They really care about their patients. Definitely will be taking my 2 kitties there from now on. Discovered the commute is super easy via the 200. There is definitely no better place to take your pets!

I feel compelled to share the absolutely horrible experience I had at this office and the extremely rude and unprofessional conduct that this doctor exhibited. We used this vet for several years with our previous dog and though I never found the practice particularly good, it was close to our home and the care seemed competent so when we adopted our second dog we brought her here. She is a rescue and trauma victim so vet visits are not fun for her. I always take pains to explain her situation to the staff and doctor whenever we come to the office, and we were able to muddle through a few visits without too much difficulty -- though staff members did yank her by her leash to try to get her to go with them, even though I had explicitly told them this would cause her trauma and make her more uncooperative. Today, however, I experienced a whole new level of uncaring, unprofessional behavior. During his entire encounter with my dog she was muzzled and leashed, so she was no threat to anyone. When the doctor tried to listen to her heart, she growled and pulled away and tried to defend herself. Having spent less than 5 minutes with her and made no attempt to calm or put her at ease, he threw his hands in the air and loudly and rudely said "I don't want this dog in my office -- I ain't worth it to me. You have to find another vet." He then just turned his back and left the room. I was stunned and humiliated by this conduct. Vets are supposed be skilled in handling animals -- including animals with trauma issues. If he did not feel that he had the necessary skill set to deal with my dog all he had to do was politely say to me "I'm sorry, I don't think I can treat your dog." Had he shown that level of common decency and professionalism I would not be writing this review. This man does not seem to care about animals, or people for that matter. If you love your pet, find another vet!

My experience has been FAIR, until July 20, 2016, when we experienced a rather DISTURBING SIDE to Layhill Animal Hospital and the lead Vet. We have been taking our pet Cat to Layhill Animal Hospital for four years and on many occasions, I had the feeling that the Vet. and Layhill ANIMAL Hospital are more focused and interested in the MONEY ASPECT and not that of Customer Service. In my opinion, Layhill ANIMAL Hospital "puhes far much for customers to spend money at their Hospital and less on Prevention. On July 20, 2016, I was SOCKED AND DISSATISFIED and Disappointed WITH Layhill Animal Hospital; when after examining our Cat and found to be healthy, Due to an episode of intermittent vomiting and limping, the Vet., and Layhill Animal Hospital, in my opinion Canived and extorted $522.00 from my Compliant wife who took our Cat for the above episodes and for the Annual Physical that the Cat was due to undertake. Though the Vet., Examined and Found that our cat had no dislocation or broke bones, and that nothing can be found to be wrong with our cat, the Vet., and Layhill Animal Hospital, in my opinion, decided to take advantage of my wife by capitalizing on her Vulnerability of our Cat's temporary condition at the time and engaged in FRIVOLOUS and UNNECESSARY PROCEDURES and ACTIONS and then CHARGED US A TOTAL OF $522.00, even though No treatment was Provided nor applied. We are Currently in an ongoing Complaint that we Filed Against Layhill Animal Hospital and the Vet. The Vet would only Agree to Refund $100.00. That is a "Penny on the Dollar" out of the Extorted and Overcharged amount of $522.00 for which no treatment of any kind was Provided. In my opinion, this is "Business as usual in the same manner and means a Mafia or Con artist approaches their Business and ill-gotten money". My opinion is that Con men and women know who and when to strike and my wife was a victim and our cat and my family has been victimized by Layhill Animal Hospital and the Vet., at our most Vulnerable time on July 20, 2016. In my opinion, we are not an exception, we are citizens who are willing to take on a Business that, in my opinion, carefully targets some Customer and Decidedly Operates on the Margins of Ethics, Integrity, and Compliance of the old and ever applicable Caveat or Guideline to Professionals such as the case is, "Do No Harm". In my opinion, This simple caveat or Guideline was not followed or followed up by Layhill Animal Hospital or the Vet, on July 20, 2016 Business Practice and BEHAVIOR THREEAFTER WITH REFERENCE TO THE EVENTS OF JULY 20, 2016.

I took my almost 10 month old puppy yesterday, April 25, to this place for grooming. NEVER,NEVER AGAIN. The actual grooming, bathing, cutting and trimming hair was OK. But,after our little guy was brought home, he was bleeding from BOTH FRONT PAWS. It appears he was cut when they were doing his paws, either nails,or something. This was not brought to my attention when I came in to pick him up and paid!!!!! I was told"his nails are sharp" Escuse me people......thats why nails are trimmed so they won't be sharp!!!!!!!!!! To treat an animal like this is cruelty. No other word foit. Our puppy will never be subjected to this horrible place again. I called them and left a details message. The cowareds never called me back. Never

We have been taking all of our pets to Dr. Adelman for many years now. We have always been pleased with the treatment our pets receive, and the friendliness of the staff. In particular, this past spring, our beloved siamese cat, Claudio, became sick very suddenly. So suddenly that we thought he'd gotten into something poisonous in our home. We took him to an emergency clinic after hours. They found nothing and wanted to sedate him to look into his mouth. We declined (as they could find nothing wrong otherwise, and his labs were not significant), and decided to take him to Dr. Adelman the next morning. As soon as Dr. A. saw Claudio, he gently opened Claudio's mouth and immediately noted a problem on his tongue. After a biopsy, it was clear Claudio had an aggressive form of cancer. Dr. Adelman delivered this news with kindness and compassion. We asked if there were any way to treat the cancer. We were told yes, but it was not likely to be successful in the long-term, and would cause Claudio a great deal of discomfort. We took Claudio home and gave him love and tried our best to keep him comfortable, knowing we had a difficult and painful time ahead. Less than a week later, we took Claudio in to Dr. A. to end his suffering. A very hard and painful time, made so much easier by the quiet and calm kindness delivered to us by Dr. Adelman and his staff. We were all able to hold Claudio in his final moments, and we were comforted by this time with him. We were allowed sufficient time in the exam room afterwards to say goodbye. We have three remaining pets and we wouldn't take them anywhere else. We have a vet much closer in distance to us, but we have found the services to be overpriced, and the vets in the large practice to be in a hurry. We are grateful to Layhill Animal Hospital for the care our pets receive. We wouldn't go anywhere else. ~ the Acquista - Matulef family

Love this place, a little pricey but everything is onsite (ie, lab, surgical, exams, grooming, meds) and a full, friendly and knowledgable staff. The doc does a full and thorough exam, answer all of your questions and offer good sound assessments or suggestions. Also, the doc return calls, make f/u calls and wellness calls. I would recommend LAH to all pet owners.

For several months, my dog had "arthritis" in his knee. He began to get worse, so I took him to this hospital on a recommendation from a family member. This was the first vet who took X-Rays to see what was up. As it turned out, my dog had a completely torn cruciate ligament. In less than a week, we had a surgical appointment and now my dog is recovering. Had it not been for Dr. Adelman and his staff, my dog would still be suffering and taking aspirin. Soon he will be back to his old self. Compassionate, caring and knowledgeable staff takes whatever time is necessary. Pricing is competitive and appointments seem to be readily available.

Dr. Adelman is the best - I knew that when I found out that he tried to place unwanted pets. He's always thorough and honest. I've been taking my pets to him for at least 25 years.

I took my cat there for a treatment of a bite, as it is the closest animal hospital to my house. The staff is great! But the Male vet that attented my cat was disappointing. I have an open wallet for my cat, i’ll pay whatever it takes for her well being, but from the beginning the vet ONLY wanted to upsell his service. My cat is very loved and is like my child, i go in very worried over her well being and the doctor instead of trying to focus more in the immediate cat injury, started talking about things the cat needed NOT RELATED TO THE INJURY to charge more. I understand its a “business” but where is the medical service aspect to treatment. Is this vet a doctor? Or a bazaar salesman? Be smarter next time. Treat the immediate reason the pet was brought in and THEN suggest your over priced services... I understand you need to earn money (like all of us) but this is a different kind of business, you are not selling a one time good or service, you are creating a relationship with an animal that will live many years and its owner; ideally you want them to come back all the time. Start by being friendly to the animal and sympathetic for the reason it was brought in, and use the owner’s name in conversation. Even if you dont care at least do it for the earning potential. I wanted this to be my go-to clinic for my pets.. but i will NEVER go back to this “hmo like” vet. Improve your service! The staff is great though
