My doggo Crypto just loves this place and the care and love of animals really show in all of the care providers there. It is very clean and inviting.

We’ve been using this vet since 2013 regardless of the fact that they seem to be the most expensive vet service in the state of Md. We asked for an estimate to have our Sheltie neutered and were given a price of “somewhere between 450.00 and 600.00. We took the dog to my daughters vet in Columbia and they charged us 150.00 to neuter and micro chip him. Anyway, I called to get a low dose maintenance prescription filled for my other dog. We’d spent hundreds if not a couple thousand of dollars diagnosing a skin condition. It was decided she need a low dose of Temoril which we use only occasionally when she has an attack. We called for a refill and they refused to do it until she is “seen” again. It seems there is always a reason why office visits, and expensive tests are necessary to get refills. It’s not necessary to spend time, loss of work, and lots of money to get a refill for an R/X that is below the rate of toxicity when it has been documented that the meds are what she needs. This comes after we just had blood work done on our third Dog so she could get her medications refilled. So, I fired this Vet and I’m picking up my dogs records and going to another vet.

I've been taking my cats to Hickory Vet since about 2015. They are close to were I live. My oldest cat, who was 13, started losing weight but I really didn't think a whole lot about it since he has always been a thin cat and would lose weight in the summer. It became a huge problem this past weekend when I noticed that he was not really eating very much, which was unusual for him. The next day (Sunday) I noticed he was not drinking very much water, either. 1st thing Monday morning I called Hickory to see if they could see my cat because I was really concerned about him. The receptionist said they were completely booked for the day but she would talk to the Dr when they arrived at 9am and call me back. She called me back shortly after 9 and said they were not able to see my cat today and if I was really concerned I should take him to the vet ER (Hickory lists ER as one of their services). She said I could schedule an appt so I asked her for their next available and she said Friday! I knew I couldn't wait that long (keep in mind this was Monday morning). I called around and was able to find another local vet that could see my cat that day. Turns out my cat was seriously ill and dying. I had to have him euthanized. I wish I could give Hickory Vet 0 stars. I don't blame them for my cat's illness but I've felt for some time they really were more about getting as much money out of their clients as possible. I mentioned something about this to one of my neighbors and she said the same thing. She said they switched a long time ago. Save yourself some aggravation and heartache and don't go to this vet.

Extremely unsatisfying first experience. Took my 3mo Mastiff pup for his 3rd set of shots. Staff was friendly, maybe a little to friendly. One of the female employees that was giving my dog his check up checked out his boy parts, looked at her assistant and said "that's a lethal weapon right there" about his penis while holding it. I find that very distasteful and unprofessional. While giving my pup his shots they used treats to distract him from the needle that she described as "greasy and gross" to her assistant and they didn't look to be a healthy or to a standard that an animal hospital should hold for healthy pets. My pup proceeded to get sick when we got home vomiting and what not, I called the hospital and told them they made my dog sick weather it be the treats or the shots i don't know and she told me that it's normal for them to get sick after shots(why wouldn't they tell me that while at the office instead of after he's already thrown up in my vehicle. She said we could bring him back in to get medicine to take care of that but i refused the offer because it seemed as if she wanted to just charge me for medicine to make him better after making him sick to begin with. For the service that was provided the bill was quite high also so I will not be a returning customer.

This review is for the groomer attached to the Hickory Vet Clinic/Kennel. I had taken my dog to this place a few months ago for grooming and had a wonderful experience. Two days ago we scheduled her again and dropped her off for grooming, we told them we wanted the same service as last time. When we showed up to pick our dog up, they told me it was $95.00, I asked how was it so expensive, I paid around $55.00 last time. They went back to get the groomer. She was all sweet saying "I heard you had a question about the price." I advised her it was much cheaper last time, she said there was no way, that 95.00 was the going rate. I asked her to look up what I paid last time. After asking numerous times she said $55.00. She immediately got very nasty, told the girl at the front desk to just charge 55.00. I told her I have be using petsmart for two years and it was only $45.00 and if she is going to charge 95 then I'll have to go somewhere else. She said unless I was going to pay $95.00 I don't want you to come back! Done!!! I asked the girl at the front seat why the drastic change in price. She said the other woman left and this is the new contract groomer and she sets her own prices. And to make things worse, she did a horrible job. I'll try to post a pic to show the numerous scissor marks and lines she left based on her inexperience in what she's doing.

I've been using Hickory for about 44yrs for all my dogs. The Staff are friendly and helpful. I'm very impressed with Dr. Lyle who has been taken care of one of my agility dogs for 3yrs and got her through 2 huge Challenges..AMAZING! All of my dogs have seen Dr. Silcox for about 19yrs...he is friendly, knowledgable, and helpful and has done a Great job with surgery's, 1 of which was a C section and some spays. I really appreciate that they understand my concerns and specific needs for my dogs.. it means alot to me.

Love this place!! They took very good care of my kitten here. I think we have found a new Vet!!

If you enjoy extraordinarily long waits, this is your place! I used to think the high prices were a trade off for great care. No. They just overbook and overcharge. If your time, your pet, and your money matter to you, do yourself a favor: go elsewhere.

Nice staff and clean clinic. The Vets are great too.

Our family has had the worst experience with this vet and kennel and I know we are not the only ones. This place is the biggest scam on the east coast. We have picked up our dog from the kennel, injured, 3 different times; three strikes your out. Each time them suggesting we should get our dog looked at by their vet hospital. The first two times we didn't think much of it and payed to get her looked at and get the problem resolved. The third time: she was returned to us with an eye issue. Once again we had her looked at by their vet. They said her eye had been scratched and she would need over an $800 eye surgery. Complete bogus we eventually found out. I took her to another vet where she was diagnosed with conjunctivitis (pink eye) only a $200 issue. This place will find a way to injure your animal so they can make extra income through their veterinary hospital. The veterinary doctors are unprofessional as can be and will diagnose your animal with bogus symptoms. When this happens to you, take your animal somewhere else for a second opinion and you will see! Good luck, don't fall for it three times like we did. Also, a must know, our dog has always been well taken care of and has never had issues before this place.

Dogs were in good spirits upon pick up and seemed to have had a good time. Couple minor issues in the staff understanding medication instructions but management is working to correct.

We are very pleased with the care we've experienced at Hickory for our 6 dogs. We love Dr McNesby in particular. Highly recommend and we are picky!

Extremely dissatisfied with the care of my dog! I took my dogs in for their routine shots, and came out with them telling me that my beagle had Lyme disease after blood work and an x-ray. We treated our dog for Lyme disease to be called back a few days later saying that our dog's number was 10, which was not significant. They had me reschedule another office visit to finally get his shots and again I walked out with them telling me that now my dog either has a urinary tract infection or a kidney infection they weren't realy sure what was wrong with him though. We left with another set of antiibiotics for a urinary tract infection. After giving him the second set of antibiotics he appeared to be getting better after a few days and then his health took a horrible turn. Today, my 13 year old son comforted our dog all day as he was not eating, drinking and then stumbled when he tried to walk. He was so bad that I took him to another pet clinic in Bel Air who told me that my dog had cancer in his spleen - which was seen in his x-ray and through their blood work that found that he was bleeding internally. Both of which were missed by Hickory. Our family pet suffered for two weeks with their missed diagnosis and apparent just wanting more money! I WILL NEVER take my other two dogs back to Hickory again and warn anyone else not to use them.

I’ve taken all of my dogs here - my first dog (who recently passed) went to Hickory his whole life, and I could tell he was loved. Technicians knew him by name, the veterinarian was always insightful and made things clear to understand, and I’ve always felt I received a stellar quality of care. My current dog has a bit more medical problems than the last, and Hickory treats him RIGHT. The entire complex is very nice and updated - the waiting room is nicer than the waiting room for my human doctor! I love this place and so do my fur babies lol!!

Reasonable pricing and quality care. They've been very good to our animals!

Seems like a nice place, too bad it's so hard to reach on the phone to make an appointment. I called twice on a weekday afternoon and after negotiating the annoying phone menus was immediately placed on hold for several minutes. It's like calling the cable company. I won't be calling again.

the only good thing about this place is the doctors. they’re very friendly and seem to know what they’re doing. the lady at the front desk, Sharon, was very rude and has no idea how to do her job. we’ve been loyal, paying customers here for YEARS and the one time we run into a bit of a financial struggle, they don’t cut us a single break. not to mention, not only do they over charge for EVERYTHING, they give thugs that only does my dog not need, but things I didn’t even ask for. very disappointed, this will definitely be our last visit here.
