My sweet dog (Ziggy, pic below) was weepy and squinting for a few days. Tearing isn’t too unusual for him but the squinting was concerning and I knew he had to go to the vet immediately when I saw his eye was starting to cloud. I called Dunkirk Animal Hospital up to schedule an appointment and they were booked up for three days but were happy to accommodate me in between appointments because of the situation. He went in 2 days ago and they did every test possible to try to find the cause of the issue and were very thorough. We left there with steroid drops and some peace of mind knowing that they wanted him to heal just as much as I did. Since the visit I’ve seen some significant change and I am more than happy to be going back in Wednesday for our follow up.

I recently had a dental done on my 10 year old Papillon who only weighs 4.5 pounds and has a liver issue. I was absolutely confident in the vet and vet tech to make sure my Papillon would be fine. She was and I had her home early that afternoon. Cannot recommend this veterinary clinic highly enough.

My cat KiKi was very sick. She had kidney failure and had to spend the night. They cared for her wonderfully. I talked to Dr. Goehle via phone several times. He was very compassionate and caring. My boy is the worst! He is embarrassing barks at everything and scared to get on the weight scale. Sometimes I do not think he realizes what he looks like in appearance and size. But our visit here, my boy peed on the doctor and acted like the possessed dog he is, everyone was still very friendly and took the time needed with him. The doctor was very knowledgeable as well. Glad to have them as my crazy boys vet. While I was stressing getting him to act like my good doggy child, they were just a smiling and even acted like they appreciated us as customers with my crazy boy.

My family has been customers of this practice since we moved here in 1998.we were refered here by a neighbor for our first dog, Sasha . She was given great care by the owner, and looked forward to coming to the vet.! Since then Dr. Carey Gaehle has been our vet. He is reasonable, has great bedside manner, and is very caring with our numerous pets thoughout the years. He always goes out of his way to do all he can to get things right, for our pet family. They are very good about sending reminders, calling and even wishing our pets happy birthdays! Dr. Carey Gaehle is a very well trained doctor and I trust him with our all our pet's needs. We have always been very pleased with all the surgeries and health care given over the many years. The office is great too! The prices are reasonable, and I highly recommend this practice!

We have had 4 dogs pass away over the last 20 years and Harold Schmeiser, Carey Goehle, and all the vets affiliated with Dunkirk Animal Hospital are the BEST! We now have 2 yellow lab sisters soon to be 2 on September 25th and I would not take them anywhere else. We have been customers/patients of DAH since we moved to the area in 2016. Except for one visit where our cats seemed to have an odd reaction to a rabies vaccination, all has been well. One of our cats was recently diagnosed with feline diabetes and she requires insulin shots. It's not our first rodeo with insulin-dependent diabetes in either humans or cats, and the doctors fully understood and respected our experience with the disease (some doctors act like they know it all, if you know what I mean). We work as a team to keep our diabetic cat in a healthy range. The docs at DAH seem to really care about their furry patients and take the time needed to address humans' concerns, too.

I took my beagle to this place to keep up with her shots on 11/14/18 and wasn’t crazy about taking her there, but I did and every time I have taken her the front desk people (except for one time) were not friendly. I can understand why two of the reviews I read were disappointed in this place. My experience on this day in November was not the best. I’m going back in February to have my beagle’s teeth cleaned and see if it’s any different. I want to go because I believe in giving a second chance, but really I have given a second and a half chances already. The reason I’m giving this second and a half chance is because I have never written a review, but I am disappointed in this place enough to write this one and I’m also writing it on behave of a couple of people that go here and I have asked them is it me or have they experience that the people are rude. They have told me also that no it’s not you but that they just look pass it and go because of the convenient location. I told them if I’m spending any money on my pet they better love to see her like I am or they should look for another place to work. I guess the vet has’nt trained them at all or doesn’t care! Speaking of the vet, Dr. Matthew Distler, that I saw that day in November, he walks in and didn’t even introduce himself and I didn’t even recognize him because he looked like he lost weight and that day he also looked like he just had his hair cut. He didn’t shake my hand or look at me. He looked at my dog’s record and said he would get the technician to set up her shots and left the room.....I totally thought my my my how rude. I also felt like we weren’t important to him and we were a thorn in his side!!! I must say tho that every time I do go in I have had the sweet pleasure of meeting the same girl technician that is in the examine room who first comes in (before the doctor) who is consistently the nicest, sweetest, and most helpful person in listening to anything I request or want done to my beagle. The vet should hire more employees like her!!! I’m am not a negative person because I do try to see the good in all, but I think I have tolerated this place enough. I will take my beagle in February to get her teeth cleaned, because I did make the appointment, but if it’s still the same atmosphere, then I’m out of there in a heartbeat and won’t look back!!! I will tell you the reason I picked this place, like some people told me they did, was because it is convenient right off of the main drag. Also I adopted my beagle after putting down my other dog 2 years prior to adopting my beagle. So it took me two years to get over my other dog before I could put another dog in my life. I wanted to explore with another vet also and this is what I get. Don’t need this kind of treatment in my life. I want the best for my sweet beagle name “Belle.”

I live in Largo Maryland and I pass several Vet offices to go the Dunkirk. I knew Dr. Schmeiser from another vet clinic and followed him to Dunkirk. I have been taking my dogs to Dunkirk for over 30 years; Chee Chee lived to be 19, Jesse lived to be 16 and Taylor is 16 years old. I contribute their longevity to the excellent vet care they received at Dunkirk. The staff and the vets are very good and I like that they have boarding, which I have used and like. The boarding is especially useful now that Taylor is older and have health issues.

Single worst vet's office I've ever visited (and, being a military wife who has moved to many different states with our fur babies, I feel like I've experienced good, bad and in between). I should have had an idea of what to expect watching how they treated exiting clients as I sat in the waiting room (one vet tech even made fun of a customer behind her back as she walked out with her dog). I was surprised to be ignored for quite some time as I stood politely at the front desk to alert them I was there / sign in (the ladies were not on the phone nor were they on the computer or helping others; they simply ignored me). The experience continued to deteriorate from that point (rude staff, incompetence). After our visit I asked a few of my new neighbors and they said that they were not surprised by my bad experiences and one shared an awful experience of their own (since I only know that one second hand, I won't share it here) so all of the glowing reviews here really are surprising to me. Thankfully, someone recommended another vet (who is wonderful!). The only pleasant part of the experience there was when my father, who went with me, saw a lady struggling to help put her large, elderly dog in her car, and he went outside to help her and she thanked him and told her to tell me "welcome to the area" when he explained I had recently moved to the county. So I can say their clients seem nice. :-) PS: I would've given "0" stars but it wouldn't let me post this without giving one star.

Our first time with our new puppy, recommended by everyone we know with pets and glad we followed their advice! Costs are more than reasonable and staff is great. They don't charge office visits when you just need vaccinations, and they don't pressure you to purchase meds or food from them... they are more than happy to just give you a prescription (although their prices are comparable to online sites and they beat the prices of the "mobile vets" if you even dare to try those). Their first concern is the health of your pet. Highly recommend for all of your vet care!

My dog had her annual check-up on March 5, 2019. Our family has taken our dogs to the Dunkirk Animal Hospital for many years. Each Veterinarian we have encountered there has always been extremely knowledgeable, professional, and friendly. This last encounter was the same. Dr. Goehle impressed me by reviewing my dog's past history prior to coming into the exam room. My do is always afraid and would tuck herself under my legs if she was able to do so. Dr. Goehle was very patient and using a calming voice and actions, was able to get my dog to cooperate. I have dealt with other Vet practices in prior years until I found this practice. I would not take my pets anywhere else and do highly recommend the Dunkirk Animal Hospital.

Thank you so much to everyone at Dunkirk Animal Hospital. My sweet lab was not doing well and was most likely going to require surgery. The surgeon at our regular vet clinic wasn't going to be in the office, so I was able to get Tucker in to see the veterinarians at Dunkirk Animal Hospital. Unfortunately, Tucker's prognosis wasn't good and I had to make a difficult decision to have him euthanized. Everyone was amazing and so kind during a very difficult time for me. This was just this morning so I am still on a roller coaster of emotions, however, I wanted to take the time to write a review because I was so impressed by everyone and so grateful to have caring people around me during a truly heart wrenching time. I was so overcome with grief that I don't remember names, however, every single staff member I encountered during my time there was fantastic.

They truly are a 5 star veterinary hospital! This was our first visit and we were doing a follow-up to emergency care from another vet hospital. My dog was scared when we got there but was wagging his tail and allowing Dr. Goehle to pet him before long. Both the Dr and the vet tech took their time getting to know me and my dog before doing any treatment. Other reviews were right, it really does have that family doctor feel. We found our new vet!

My favorite veternarian practice; I'm sticking with this one. They don't make me feel like a heel because my big male cat weights 19 pounds. I always schedule my three cats for their wellness exams in the morning and have never had to wait (much appreciated when your feline has howled in the car all the way there). They are very understanding of things including from the cat's side; so they let my three cats hide their heads in my elbow as much as possible. My cats somehow believe that if they can't see the vet, they are not AT the vet. They also did an amazing surgery to remove an abscessed tooth on a very old cat I had. I didn't expect him to survive the anesthesia but his heart never missed a beat and he was back to his old self when I picked him up. Very happy with them!!!!!! Definitely would recommend.
