We have been taking our pets here for 30 + years. They are caring and very good.

Hope Braveheart

It's a no nonsense kind of place. The staff are exceedingly competent, kind, and responsive. I've been taking my dogs there for 20+ years.

I have been bringing my pets to College Park Animal Hospital for the past 4 decades! Staff is always friendly, personable and helpful! Services provided are excellent. Would highly recommend this hospital to everyone.

Joan Lieber

I have had nothing but positive experiences at the College Park Animal Hospital. Recently I moved from my house to an apartment and I was concerned about my 14+ year old cat making the transition. Dr. Beck met with me in person for 30 minutes and went over all the different things I could do to make Charlie's transition easier. She didn't even charge me for the meeting! I've now made the move and Charlie has had a wonderful transition thanks to all the suggestions from Dr. Beck.

CPAH is really the place to go. My dog had a bacterial infection in his nail bed, and Dr. Neri and his vet techs were so patient and loving with my dog. They are professional and I will continue going there for my pup's examinations and any emergency.

Russell Brown

Veterinary care is expensive; if you can find a vet with better prices than CPAH, please let me know! They don't price gouge here like some other vets that I've brought my cat to. On top of that, their service has always been very professional, and my cat started getting better immediately both times I brought him here.

Everyone here is just lovely, helpful, and clearly makes the animal's best interests the priority. Have been taking my Mini Schnauzer & 2 male tabbies here since I moved to College Park 4 years ago and have nothing but great experiences here.

Kristi Eckerson

I've been using CPAH for all my animals since moving to the area (>4 yrs). Everyone (vets, techs, and front office) is skilled and caring. Dr. McMichael runs a great practice!

Boarded my cat who requires a number of medications for a couple of days. They were fantastic in caring for her and ensuring she was well while I was out of town. It was such a relief not to have to worry about her! I will be using their services again when I travel next.

They may be small but CPAH has been our vet for over 30 years...The staff is incredible, well trained and pleasant to work with. I can always count on the staff to take care of all my animals with the best care possible. They have come through for me on several emergencies.

Sarah Rogers

This veterinary hospital is fantastic. We use them for our primary vet for our two dogs, and previously our cat as well. They have also always been available when we have had little emergencies with our accident prone shepherd. This is a top notch facility with wonderful staff, and I would highly recommend them to anyone with a pet. We found them after trying a couple of different veterinary hospitals in the Riverdale/College Park area. We've seen several different doctors at the practice who are all amazing, but we now mostly work with Dr. Berndt. We see her for the care of both of our dogs, one which we got as a puppy and went through all of the vaccinations and spay surgery with Dr. Berndt. We also had an indoor cat that unfortunately had to be euthanized at the practice, where we felt nothing but sympathy and comfort. The staff at both the front desk and the vet techs are all fantastic as well. They always recognize us and our fur family, making us feel truly cared for. We've had to call last-minute for small emergencies quite a few times, and they have always been able to fit us in, which has been a real help. Their pricing is fair, and their wait times are reasonable. They also have late hours during the week, making it easy to make an appointment after work. Dr. Berndt always talks me through my options for care and a health plan for the dogs. I never feel like she rushes with me, and my dogs actually like going to the vet because they love the staff. I appreciate being involved in the process, having everything thoroughly explained to me, and not ever feeling like I need to do an "extra" test or exam if it's not immediately necessary. We've since moved out of the area to Howard County, and continue to make the drive here because they are so great.

Catharine Page

The staff were very friendly. The doctor explained the examination well. I felt that my pet was well taken care of. Furthermore, the free nail trim for my cat in exchange for a review of their services is a good idea.

Matt Miller

Really great staff, not overly expensive

Pat Stakem

Nice facility, well staffed. Ample parking around back. Dog liked them. Right on Route 1 northbound. Use the rear exit to go home.

Kelly Schwickrath

They diagnosed my cat with allergies. Magically in only one eye, somehow. Turns out he has FHV.

John Coulon

We've been taking our pup (Leo) to College Park Animal Hospital for about a year & we have been pleased with the services that the veterinarians have provided our pup. I would highly recommend this Vet's office as a great place because of the loving treatment and expertise given to our little dog. (well...little is relative, his is about 86/87lbs now).

Brandon Cole

Friendly staff, reasonable pricing. Were able to see us on short notice for a pet injury.

I just got my cat in March so I haven't had much experience yet. The little bit that I have been there has been good. Sam, my cat, doesn't seem to mind being there. A good sign.

The College Park Animal Hospital gets the highest review it can get from me. As our cat aged and got sick they assisted us in every way as we did hospice care from home. I could not have asked for any more attention than they gave. After the diagnosis, emails were sent from them asking how she was doing and when I needed a new prescription or advice I got it immediately. When we finally needed to euthanize her, it was done in a very respectful and kind way at the office. I would highly recommend this animal hospital to anyone looking for outstanding and compassionate pet care at a very reasonable price.

TLDR; not recommended. I went to CPAH for many years more out of convenience than anything else. While I believe they have some good veterinarians they have one administrative staff person who is just nasty to customers (I'm flabbergasted that she hasn't been terminated). However, my two star rating is centered around my experience with a problematic ear hematoma with one of my dogs. The second time surgery was needed on the ear I also asked for a growth on an arm that had previously been biopsied as benign to be removed. I was told I would have to schedule (and pay for) two surgeries. I sought out a second opinion and my current veterinarian didn't feel comfortable scheduling two surgeries and giving a dog of this age anesthetic twice for something that could be accomplished at the same time. When I picked up my dog after surgery at CPAH he couldn't stand on his own; when I picked up my dog after surgery at the new veterinarian he was almost normal. To keep that assessment in perspective the recovery time after surgery at CPAH was several hours MORE! As a bonus the cost of the two surgeries was about 25% less than the one at CPAH.

I have been taking my dog to the College Park Animal Hospital for more than 14 years. Everyone there is wonderful! The veterinarians are first rate - amazingly competent, informative, and with great care for my dog. The same is true for the vet techs. The staff is always helpful and friendly. The facility is comfortable, always clean, and pleasant. My aging dog has multiple medical issues, but is in great shape thanks to the care of all the vets there and the specialists to which they have referred us. They stay in touch with the specialists and coordinate care. You'd never know to look at our dog that she is so old and on multiple medications - indeed, it is the care and medications prescribed that keep her healthy.

Jo Hahn

They take care of my beagle-y buddies!

Ellen Henderson-Madhavan

CPAH is always there our critters; from regular check-ups to more serious diagnoses, including when we had to make the decision to put our sweet Lola cat down. They are very caring, and always have time for us - whether we need to drop off in the morning, or make a sudden appointment, including on weekends. All their vets and vet techs are great with follow-up calls, and are gentle with our feelings (and our critters'). The front desk greets you with a smile, sense of humor, and all staff work with you on questions /concerns with payment. We are so thankful to have CPAH close by.

Last summer when a vet at the beach told us our dog was going to need a $6000.00 emergency surgery, we came home from our vacation immediately and were seen that day by our vets here at CPAH. They looked at the x-rays and examined our 4 legged family member and told us NO SURGERY WAS NEEDED. She was completely misdiagnosed and was treated with love and care we had always received here. Even received a call the next day to see how she was doing. Could not give a higher recommendation. Thank you CPAH! Oh, and instead of taking her to a chain to have someone who always makes her paws bleed, we bring here her to get her nails cut too! In and out in no time!

Recently I took my dog, Casey, a Pharaoh Hound Terrier mix and a highly reactive boy, to College Park Animal Hospital as he had torn his CCL ligament in a rear leg. All the staff were so compassionate and responsive to his temperament and pain situation. My level of anxiety was greatly reduced as soon as we entered the waiting area. Casey and I were immediately escorted to a quiet spot where he could calm down. The rest of the visit was continued with the same level of sensitivity to our emotional needs as well as Casey’s physical injury.

This is a fantastic vet practice! The care is excellent and the pricing is fair. We take all of our cats to see Dr. Berndt, who is thorough, knowledgeable, and kind with them. Dr. McMichael has done two surgeries on our different cats and is a careful and knowledgeable veterinarian surgeon. The staff are very customer- and animal-focused. It is clear that everyone who works at this practice truly care about the animals in their care.

John Dysland

Dr McMichael and staff are very caring and professional in their care of our pets Both of our dogs went there and now our "grandog" goes there Highest recommendation for this practice

Casey Clark

Staff is always friendly and remembers our pets. Easy to get an appointment and all of the doctors are caring and thorough. Highly recommend.

Jared Lucey

Wonderful small practice. We have been bringing our dogs here for 7 years now and would never think of going anywhere else. Staff is super friendly.

William Tiwari

I take my dog here all of the time and have been since I first got a pet. The staff is always nice and the doctors are amazing. I live in dc and its always worth the 20 minute drive

Robert Slack

I had a hard time finding an animal shelter I really liked. One tried to ply my dog with "natural" New Age potions. Another ended up charging me $200 shots because they charged me for a physical when they gave my dog the shot and two weeks later at the booster shot. College Park Animal Hospital gets it right. They are caring, competent and charge fairly. Their administrative staff is efficient and committed. I've had nothing but good experiences, which is why I drive farther than I need to take care of my dog's health needs.

Henry Hsueh

Took my sick dog (Kaycee )here on 7/23.After spending $427 for exam and meds, sent her home. She passed away next morning 7/24. NOT HAPPY WITH CPAH.No condelence NOTHING !!!

Phillip Frazier

Very friendly service and I am always seen on-time with my appointments. All procedures and services are thoroughly explained to me.

Tim Schwuchow

Great doctors and fair prices!

Leah Durbak

I'd overlook the tiny, cramped, and outdated office if it hadn't been for the fact that the staff had no idea how to collect a urine sample from my dog, manhandled her in such a fashion that I'm surprised no one got bitten, and presumed to take her in the back to do an exam after all that - obviously they could not handle my dog (who really isn't *that* badly behaved) successfully and humanely. I will not be returning, obviously! EDIT: CPAH left me a rather brusque voicemail regarding this review, not to apologize for my extremely bad experience, but to “clarify” my review. Seriously, save yourself the irritation. Banfield Calverton is a far better option.

Susan Hawley

They are the BEST! Provide excellent care.

Second time here, such a friendly and wonderful staff! Dr Meola was extremely friendly with my dog, very attentive to my needs and concerns and normally my dog hates new people but she instantly warmed up to her! Would definetly recommend bringing your pets here!!

They have looked after my furry babies for years now. They are always kind, professional and thorough with their examinations. I will never forget how sweet they were to my childhood cat that we had to put to sleep(he was almost 20 and had some medical stuff going on). Each one of them were so kind to my cat and to me. They are a wonderful office.

Brandon Grimes

I am writing this review not to hurt CPAH business but to give important information to clients who may have a terminally ill cat as I did. I brought my cat in when he was becoming thin and his belly was bloating. I was told he had FIP or Cancer. I felt that the vet was very clearly steering me towards putting my cat down. I feel CPAH has a "one size fits all" approach to animals who are getting fluid in their belly or lungs- and that is to euthanize them asap. No option for palliative care was ever provided. The vet, who was empathetic and kind, basically laid out two options: euthanize the cat, or possibly put him through all sort of tests and procedures that would likely cause him harm and cost you money. The message was, if you love your cat and don't want him to suffer, put him down. When a professional vet in a white coat advises you to put your cat down, and makes it sound like you are not acting in the best interest of the cat to keep him alive, I take it seriously. I took my cat home and waited for a sign. I was given less than one week of pain killers. He was doing OK-- enjoying being with us, eating some, walking around, breathing ok . A week later I took him in to see if they could remove the fluid from his belly as it was impeding him to breathe normally. I was told the fluid was now in his chest and they recommended I put him down-- that day. Again a different vet was empathetic. They kindly didnt charge for the visit, just meds. I scheduled the euthanasia for the next day. That night my cat was totally active, jumping around, eating, being his old self. I put off the euthanasia and did the quality of life on line tests; he did not meet the criteria for euthanasia. A few days later I called the clinic and another Dr. called me back-- at 8:30 PM - very nice. Also empathetic, spent 20 plus minutes on the phone with me. I asked if there was anything we could do not to save my cat, but to make him comfortable because he was not ready to go. She reluctantly prescribed steroids. Wow- total change. My cat was eating 4 times a day, perky as hell and we had another beautiful 3 weeks. But since I could only get the recommendation to put him down at this practice-- in fact I felt they were refusing to drain the fluid-- I moved to another practice specialized in cats. They drained the fluid in his belly (which did not require anesthesia and was affordable) this took the burden off his lungs and he breathed pretty well until his death (35/ min.) The fluid in his chest that was supposed to condemn him immediately was very small, as the x ray showed. In the end I had over a month with my cat that was very needed, because he had been away for years and had come home to die. We needed that time together. If I had put him down on the day after he came home (as they suggested) I would have lost a month of loving on him, of reconnecting, of the joy we needed to have before parting. I found a vet that WOULD FACILITATE PALLATIVE/ HOSPICE care. CPAH would not. They had only two offers on the table-- death or expensive, maybe painful/ stressful interventions (which would have been referred to a specialty clinic). But what about comfort while dying? what about steroids to reduce inflammation, painkillers as needed, diuretics to keep the fluid retention limited, and draining the fluid from the belly to ease breathing. None of these options are wildly expensive. They are meds., done at home. They bought us the most precious time. I would have been so traumatized if I had listened to the vets. Go for a vet that provides hospice care options for you to apply at home if you are looking for a middle path and you both need more time to say goodbye. If you are willing to care for a dying cat (and yes I have a full time job-- it was not too onerous), then there is a third way between Death and possibly futile life saving actions-- but in reality the only option they promoted was death. One last thing to give CPAH credit -I did not feel like they were trying to squeeze money out of a cat loving woman.

Walt Venable

Really terrible experience here. Spent over a thousand dollars trying to get a diagnosis for my dog's chronic skin problems. After doing my own research online, I found that hypothyroidism can be a common cause (which the vets here did not mention or test for). After asking them to test for it, they were extremely reluctant and tried to talk me out of ordering the test, saying the symptoms did not match. Indeed the test results were negative, until out of frustration I went to another vet, who ordered a new thyroid test which confirmed hypothyroidism. In my opinion, the doctors here are inexperienced and make poor judgement calls, and they seemed to be partnered with a shoddy testing facility. I wouldn't recommend a visit here unless it's an emergency and the only place you can get to quickly.

I've been taking the "Four Footers" to CPAH for the last 40 years. They have always been very caring not only with pets but with the human owners. The facility is always clean and they have always carefully explained everything to me. The pricing has always been fair and I have never felt that a test was run needlessly. My dogs have all lived a long and healthy life under their care. Thank you College Park Animal Hospital.

Dr. Elizabeth Berndt is the most amazing vet!!! She is so sweet and is very on board with treatment for my dog. She supports me 100% and really tells me what we need and what we really don't need. She understands I have a really limited bank account and really works his treatment plan into it my budget without making me feel like a super terrible person. She is the ONLY vet I will take my dog to. The ladies at the front desk have always been sweet and caring and love seeing my little baby Bear when he comes in. All the vet techs are so so nice and sweet. I love this office ❤️

My little dog, Rudy, can be a hand-full. I was concerned about leaving her at a kennel since she's so old and on medication. I decided to have CPAH board her. When I picked her up after a weeks time, we were amazed at how well she looked. They took good care of our girl. It was obvious that she received lots of TLC while in the care of the CPAH staff.

Dr. Liz Berndt is phenomenal!

I took My maltipoo to Vet college park becauae she was cut during a grooming session. I initially went Banfield at Petsmart but clearly my experience was not goo because she was not seen there. I called and spoke with an assistant who advised they would squeeze her in if I brought her within the hour. The vet looked at her and gave her some staples and advised that she could come back in 2 weeks to have them taken out. Her gash healed completely and there was no sign of infection. Most importantly My dog took well to the staff as she can be a very difficult dog when she's getting any type of treatment from people. I've found her a perms and doctor and I mm extremely happy with that!

Very nice staff and conveniently near my house. My dog has never had any server issues so I haven't really needed any crazy procedures done. I go for my dogs yearly check ups and shots. A standard check up will run you about $40-50 and shots are not too pricey. I think their prices are pretty fair. They also sell flee and tick meds, those pill pouch treats, heart worm meds, and some other little treats. Totally recommend if you are in the neighborhood and need a good vet.
