Been going there for 5 yrs now. The workers are very nice and Dr. Lewis is a really good vet.
Always take great care of my corso treats him like family
Great team!
Great place great ppl was very satisfied with the vets professionalism
My animals and I have always been treated great by all the staff at Academy!!! I have had many pets over the years treated at Academy, and hat a cat and a dog put down there. I think more impressive than the professional, friendly treatment is the true empathy, compassion and understanding they have when you have to let a pet go. They are honest about prognosis and treatment options...and do not try to talk you into treatment that may not preserve your pets quality of life. Overall a quite impressive place to trust with your pets health and well being!!
I stumbled upon this place, I was at another vet and was totally discussed with the atmosphere and the staff. I goggled Academy Animal Hospital and was told to bring my dog in, and once I got there I was totally blown away with everything and everybody their, The staff made me, and Jax (dog) feel welcome. I had so many questions the doctor, being as Jax is my first dog, the doc was more then patient with me, and made me feel soooo much better. Jax has been coming here ever since. I would recommend this place to everyone......Jax is there today getting groomed, I can't wait to see what he's goin to look like.......the only thing I would change is the parking, because they are so good the parking lot isn't big enough for all the cars.
Belair Road location, low price overnight fees-wish dogs had baths before return.
Very kind
My vet of choice. Love Dr. Luis.
Awesome place to take your pet
Good experience with my new kitten. Appreciated the free kitten food sample and coupon.
Great
Clean, nice, and helpful.
Dr.Lewis is one of the most caring and straight forward vets I've ever had the pleasure of meeting. I recently took in a stray cat who ended up having medical problems and he's been wonderful at communicating possibilities, addressing any and all of my concerns and starting to get her healthy. I'll definitely be returning despite the receptionist. The receptionist wasn't very serious and seemed to have a lot of difficulty remembering what others had told her and frequently needed the assistance of others to complete tasks, including my cat's name which I found odd as it was written down in front of her. Maybe she's new or maybe it's the same one I've read other complaints about.
I brought my kitten in to be examined and without a full exam the vet told me she has rabies. She had to be euthanized. The tests came back NEGATIVE. So due to your INCOMPETENCE as a DVM I would still have my previous baby girl. Never will I EVER bring any of my babies to you. You should find another career.
I love this place..even though i have to travel past other vets to get to them..i will continue to go..I take all of my exotic pets to them..they are wonderful and caring..the doctor is knowledgeable..just had my rabbit spayed..and they were great..prices are reasonable compared to some..i will continue to take all of my fur babies to them.
Dr. Lewis and his staff are the best animal specialist I've ever used. My animals get the best!
Good people. Very reasonably priced. Also my dog likes them. I've also been to Erdman, Falls Rd, Village Vet and Docside. All good places, but Academy is my new go-to.
I was hesitant to go because it is walk in based vs. appointments but I had an emergency with my geriatric cat. Dr. Lewis, the tech and everyone at the front desk was wonderful despite being very busy. Dr. Lewis was very kind and thorough despite being clearly slammed with appointments. Made sure to tell us all charges before doing anything. Also, many cats from local rescue groups were being seen so they clearly help alot with local rescue needs which is incredible. Highly recommend this vet. They care about what they do. Great hours for those in need.
Very nice workers, and not expensive and not crowded
Great doctors and very caring staff I give them ten stars
Good veterinary in the area
Everyone that works there, including the receptionists, veterinarian assistants, and the veterinarians really care about my pets. The doctors thoroughly, and patiently examine my animals; and present a plan of action to combat problems, whether it be surgical or medicinal. The only negative is that parking lot is small, and is shared with adjacent businesses. And, at times, it can be difficult finding parking, and leaving the parking lot.
Good place to board your animal. The Dr took time and explained everything and answered all questions
Wonderful! They take excellent care of my cat whenever he is sick or just needs his up-to-date shots! GOD BLESS THIS ANIMAL HOSPITAL AND ALL OF ITS EMPLOYEES!!!!
Dr. Lewis and his staff are wonderful. They truly care about the wellbeing of their patients and putting the families at ease. Being open 7 days a week and having evening hours is also a benefit.
NICEST people!
If I could give no stars, I would....My cat, Jack was seen there on Wed by their troll of a vet (the female). She did a whole 30 second exam and one x-ray and determined Jack had a bowel blockage which was causing him not to eat or use the bathroom...She tells me Jack needs a 16-1800$ surgery. I started crying bc I knew it was impossible to get this money. I'm a single mom on a fixed income. Every other option I asked about was a NO...Even no to trying laxatives. This troll wanted me, however possible, to get him this surgery. Not bc she wanted him to live but bc of the money...I applied for care credit and it wasn't enough. Academy was not willing to work with me in ANY way. I was even told, when I asked about a payment plan, that "they don't lend out money bc they need to stay afloat". Wow. This vet really is a troll.... yet she made it clear my animal would die without the surgery. They were ready to do the life saving surgery on my Jacky boy when I was there, the minute I could have given them the money... I couldn't tho. So I took Jack home with no idea what I could try or who to call. I was lucky enough to find a rescue to help with the costs and was going to take jack in that next morning for the surgery. The next morning comes and now they won't do it. They told me I had to go to an animal ER where the bill would easily be another 1000$. The rescue couldn't help me with 1000 more $ so they told me I was on my own. In desperation I got vegetable oil, laxatone and Pedialyte. (nothing which they recommended bc of course she said laxatives wouldn't work)... I started giving Jack the oil and laxatives to hopefully move this blockage around and Pedialyte and water in a cat bottle to keep him hydrated. I just imagined having to tell my 3yo daughter that Jack was gone... Jack just passed whatever was blocking him. His nose is even wet again. For 20$ I saved my cats life. They wouldn't save it for 1600$. This place is horrible. I've never had someone make me feel small. This woman needs to find another profession and I will find another vet.
I don't like being away from my fur babies, but they made it as comfortable as possible. They are very compassionate and it was clear they love all the animals they help.
The ladies at the front desk make this whole place. The vets seem to b knowledgeable but their bed side manner is severely lacking. The employees at the front desk seem to be the only ones with personality and customer service. I love this veterinary office but I wish they would make their customers feel more comfortable. I was told that certain procedures would not be available to my dog without a muzzle simply because of his bread even tho I have brought him several times with no issue and he has no history of aggression. My dog hates anything on his nose and I’m not going to stress him out due to someone’s ignorance. You would think the vet would be the one place you didn’t hv to worry about breed discrimination. If it wasn’t for the excellent service at the front desk I probably wouldn’t go here anymore. They really do make u feel uncomfortable.
Took my cat Miles here. My phone started vibrating i saw it was my dad. I asked if i could take the call because he was gping to pay the bill. The doctor berated me and said something along the line of "thats rude would you do that in your (human) doctors office? I have other pets to see" a simple "no i really have to finish up". Wouldve sufficed. I didnt even hear anything she said after that i was taken back by how ruse that came off. No need for the extra. Thank God they could pay over the phone i told my dad not to bother coming and pay them over the phone. Receptionist was nice. But i will find someone closer who knows how to take to us "rude" customers.
Closest place I can go to get my hamster's teeth trimmed. The Dr. who handles hamsters are great and can trim his teeth within seconds. Lobby gets crazy. It took the receptionists 10 minutes before doing something about a dog that continuously kept barking in the waiting room. (They finally put him in an exam room.) Waiting outside wasn't much better since it is on a busy and main street. Even if I had had my cat instead of my hamster, that situation would've been super stressful for him as well! Receptionist are great once they acknowledge you.
Went in for a spay and neuter for two cats. Now on the paperwork it states if I wanted my cats nails to be trimmed while they were under. I said no. I didnt want that. When I came to pick up my cats. Two teenage looking women. Blonde with piercings and thin young black haired female went to get my cats. I heard them on the other side of the door. Laughing and chatting loudly while I was waiting to see them after a painful 24 hours. She returns to tell me while they were awake; RIGHT Before returning them to me. That they trimmed their nails? NOW IF I OPTED OUT. WHY DID THEY STILL DO THIS? Why did she not just return my cats instead of having hangout time with her friend. Watch out for these people. Their younger front desk might do something with your animals even if the records says not to do it.
Small, crowded and dirty
I brought my 4 cats here for their yearly check up and shots. They are very informative and friendly. I highly recommend based on this experience.
GOOD DOCTORS & STAFF
Dr. Lewis is an awesome vet! I will be going back for sure
Today was my first visit there with my Jack Russell who hates going to the vet but it was shot time, nail trim time and didn't feel like traveling to Westminster. The staff, everyone was very friendly, the wait was not long at all. I was very, very pleased . Our new vet
I am a huge helicopter mom when it comes to my golden retriever, Riley, and I can always count on Dr. Lewis and Dr. Heilbron to not only provide the best care for Riley but they explain everything to me that is going on so I can be a better advocate for my pet. The front desk staff are all so nice and helpful, Riley can be a bit difficult when it comes to actually getting into the front door for his visit and they always happily help me scoot him in. Dr. Lewis is what I consider and old school vet (the best kind), he gets to know each of his clients and doesn't order a bunch of crazy expensive tests just to figure out what he already knows from his many years of experience and he is gentle, patient and kind, with both animals and their sometimes neurotic parents. I have never felt rushed or unheard, they take as much time as needed and are there long after you have left the office. I can't say enough nice things about the doctors and staff at this practice, I highly recommend.
Vets and staff are always helpful and prices are very reasonable have been bringing are furry kids here for a long time. ; )
We have taken our dogs to Academy for the past five years. All of the staff are wonderful and do their best to put us and our dog friends at ease. We especially appreciate Dr. Lewis, who goes out of his way to take care of his patients and helps animals in need by working with local rescue groups. LOVE these guys!
Dr.Lewis and all the staff are fantastic. Took great care of my finicky little girl. Thank you all.
The doctors were extremely helpful and nice but the receptionist was extremely rude and disrespectful.
I love the staff but they need more help because sometimes you're waiting extremely too long just to get waited on.
We were referred to this facility by many people on the Facebook pot belly pig site they said Dr Lewis is amazing when it comes to piggies Our girl is so big he was able to find away to get the job done and it went perfectly Dr Lewis and his staff have gained a new satisfied customer Thank you so much from Shirley Buchanan and her mommy and daddy
Professional and caring. We had a very sick dog and they took diligent care of her for a year and were very compassionate when we had to decide to put her to sleep. Have never had a bad experience. Quality veterinarian office.
Dr. Lewis was so thorough and helpful with our doggy Sampson. He was very knowledgeable and helpful on suggesting different treatments for our pup. He took his time and was very invested. This is not our typical vet but we are going to switch to him because he was THAT great. Only downside would be the initial exam was $52 which I feel is a little pricier than some places. I feel okay paying more knowing my pups are in good hands though. Other staff (front desk and vet tech) were very nice and helpful as well. Thanks Academy Animal Hospital!
Great place to take your pet loving and caring.
Dr. Lewis is amazing. His care for all animals knows no bound. We have been taking our fur friends to Academy for nearly 10 years,
Calm and friendly
There is a viral Fb post about neglecting to help a dog bleeding out everywhere Really makes u think twice U want your vet to be willi to fix your animal right Way Vets cover lots of bills , product and their pays with a check up from a dog there is no reason for that to of happened Sucks your jus really have to research where ur emergancy vet will be !!!!!!
Great place great people. Parking isn't that great small lot and a lot of traffic but so worth it.
I first became aware of Academy Animal Hospital while fostering a dog for a local rescue. Academy is a "go to" vet for many local rescue organizations, and after meeting the vets and staff, I understand why. This is a compassionate group of people who donate significant time and resources to the rescue community. I immediately switched to this practice, and I have never been disappointed. I once left their office with a foster dog as their office was closing, noticed a cat who had been hit by a car on Belair Road, and walked back in to have him treated. Despite the fact that the office was closed, one of their vets stayed late to stabilize this cat, who recovered and was later adopted. When I call with follow-up questions, I can always either speak to a vet, or get a return call from a vet, something that I have not experienced with some other practices. I have routinely seen the vets and staff holding cats or dogs in their arms while speaking to customers or filling out paperwork, whether to comfort an animal or monitor his or her condition. One of their vets saved my dog's life by monitoring and nursing her through a four day GI problem, where surgery was not an option. The wonderful staff members know my dogs by name and genuinely love animals. 5 stars : )
Very nice animal hospital at great rates and nice people!!
There staff is very helpful and caring!!
Caring staff
Dr Lewis rocks... I have a difficult large Pitt Bull and he can handle him. There is parking in the rear which is easier to get in and out of...
Very nice and helpful staff, even when busy.
When I first started using Academy as my vet, I lived right down the street. Now, nearly 25 years later, I travel half an hour, through the Harbor Tunnel, passing literally 3 other veterinary clinics to get there. Bernie the Office Manager is the best, and Dr. Lewis goes out of his way to make sure you understand all your options. Over the years I have had to help three beloved dogs cross the bridge, and the staff's compassion is beyond compare.
Grooming appt went well. Tina did a great job My dog Gizmo is a senior rescue who needs special care. Great job Academy
Knowledgeable and helpful, kind to your pet.
Myself it's a very good place to take name do dog and cat
very caring professional staff
Wow! So impressed with this practice! Our dog was having an allergic reaction on Sunday morning and this is the only place that was open (except for PetER which I highly do not recommend). We came in at 9:15, were seen by 9:30 (even after we had to fill out new patient paperwork) and had our medicines and were checked out by 9:45. I was fully expecting and prepared to pay an arm and a leg for the “emergency” visit but the bill was exactly as much as we would pay at our regular vet. Everyone in the practice was extremely friendly and you could tell they adore animals. I am so impressed and will likely start bringing all of my pets here for their check ups. Thank you Academy!
The best and cost is reasonable
We were fostering a cat and Academy Animal Hospital is the assigned Vet clinic. The staff overall are knowledgeable, though some are not the most personable. Dr. Lewis gives good advice, but can come off as "questioning your life choices". I am a vet student myself and knowing several other vets some of the ideas he had made sense, while others did not. I would definitely seek a second opinion if he suggests a major change to your animal's life, or at least take some time to research it on your own. I also question, how they missed the large spot of ringworm even after the intake exam, and neutering on the cat that took us no time to find. Overall, a good vet, but like most has flaws. They also have clinic cats that roam the front, so if your dog is cat aggressive please be aware.
Great service and the people really love and care for the animals.
Great place to take your pets. Affordable and great care.
Dr. Lewis is a very knowledgeable and seasoned veterinarian. He doesn't run unnecessary tests and is very generous with his time. He has a great "bedside" manner with our dogs (and us).
Wonderful, caring people work here
Staff are really nice and I didnt get the sense that they were trying to find ways for me to spend more money. Some places are just in it for the money. I didnt get that from this place.
It's cheap and they know what there doing
Parking is available in the rear and the atmosphere is comforting.
It was hands down the best veterinarian we have ever been to. Doctor Rick Lewis is a very nice and informative doctor. I recommend. I will take all my animals to him from here on out. Amazing
My cat was near death. Was totally blocked, couldnt urinate and in kidney failure. The Dr was super nice and explained the bloodwork to me. The front desk lady, Joan was very nice. She gave me advice, was comforting and made me feel like I could call anytime. I'm now going to be a patient forever. I'm so grateful. It's a very relaxed atmosphere and felt very welcoming.
The wait was toooooo long before they called my pet because there was only one doctor working that day. However the vet doctor was very friendly and knowledgeable.
Caring employees for your pets!!!
Boarded my pet here while out of state. Very caring and knowledgeable staff. Highly recommended!
Excellent care for your pets. Reasonable boarding rates. Friendly and pleasant staff.
Great convenient hours, walk in sevice 7 days a week, knowledgeable seasoned vets. Fair prices. Highly recommended.
