Great vets place clean and staff great
I am so happy with Abbey Animal Hospital. The experience I had there was teriffic I have taken my chihuahua to two other vets and because of the type she is the first vet put a mussel on her. She was so afraid to be seen. When I took her to Abbey Animal Hospital they worked with me and her. She gave them kisses when we left. Abbey Animal Hospital is the only vet I will ever take her. Thank you very much Abbey Animal Hospital can't say just one each and every one helped me.
They took phenomenal of our dog Lucy, and the staff was very kind and helpful. The most important part to me compared to other vet places is they didn’t spend half the visit trying to sell me a product my dog didn’t need. We’ll be going here for a long time. Thanks.
My animals have been going here since day one. The staff is amazing..all.compasionate and have the animals best interest at heart without robbing your wallet
Excellent place and people for pets which are also our children!!!!
Long story, but worth the read. One late night in April 2017, my wife and I noticed one of our cats, Rusty, limp onto our bed, seemingly injured. We looked him over thoroughly and decided it was best to see the Emergency Vet instead of waiting until the morning. We got to the Emergency Vet around midnight and told the desk our concerns with Rusty. Rusty was taken in for examination, and what happened next rocked our world. The Emergency Vet proceeded to tell us that Rusty had a blood clot in his front left paw, and would need to stay there overnight with oxygen. As he may have fluid on his lungs. We were stunned. I suggested that we please take Rusty home, and we would take him to his regular vet in the morning. In a cold demeanor, the Emergency Vet told us very bluntly that he could die. My wife broke down in tears. I suppose the vet was right, but we could not fathom leaving our poor boy in a cage on what could possibly have been his last night on the earth. We left with Rusty and went home to sleep for a few hours. I left voicemails for Rusty’s regular vet, and for Abbey, since that next morning was Good Friday, and I wasn’t sure if our regular vet would be available. The next morning, bright and early, I received a call from Jen at Abbey. She first asked if we were ok, as I’m sure she could hear my concern through my voicemail. Jen told me that Dr. J was available and we quickly went in with Rusty to be seen. Dr. Jay calmly examined Rusty. We noticed immediately that Rusty was relaxed, and calm. Dr. Jay took his time to explain to us that Rusty did in fact have a blood clot, and explained that his paw was cold to the touch. He recommended blood thinners and told us that it was possible for him to pass the clot. We felt that Dr. J was consultative, warm, and truly had the utmost concern for Rusty as well as our concerns as his owners. Through tests, we discovered that Rusty had Cardiomyopathy, or congestive heart failure. His heart was not pumping enough blood out of his heart as it was pumping in, causing the clot. He did pass the first clot and was able to walk and play again, and seemingly returned to his normal self. Two months later, Rusty threw another blood clot. This time into his hind legs, and he was unable to walk. Unfortunately, we lost Rusty due to his condition. I have had cats and dogs my whole life. I have met and worked with MANY veterinarians, Many of them I still recommend. However, I can truly say that no veterinarian impressed me more than Dr. J did, as well as the rest of the staff at Abbey. We will gladly take the 30 minute drive from Bel Air to take our pets here. I’d give 1,000 stars to this review if I could. From the bottom of my heart, THANK YOU!
Dr. Jay and Dr. Maskol are gems. The best veterinarians out there. I trust them completely with my fur babies and love that they take the time to explain everything. I never feel rushed and I always feel like they care about my cats as if they were their own.
Jesse is well cared for by the DVMs and techs.
Dr J was very good.
I have been going to Abbey Animal Hospital for over 15 years. They treat all of my pets like family. The doctors are knowledgeable and never push unnecessary test or treatments. Abby Animal Hospital has everything I could want in keeping my pets healthy and happy, which to me, is priceless!
I've been taking my cat here for the past few years, every time I've gone in they've been very helpful and caring. I would definitely recommend this place for anyone looking for a new vet
Dr. (and I use that loosely) John Kluttz is a spiteful, petty man! He talks down to you and over you. He is not interested in listening to what you have to say. There are those who deem themselves to be superior beings because of the jobs and degrees they have. I feel sad for them as I do for him. Because I challenged him and refused to let Kluttz do countless tests on my dog who had a in his words, (a slight infection) based on blood work that was done and a urine test. I had at this point spent over $230.00. Because I refused to let him do countless tests of course at my expense which I pointed out. I asked for a broad spectrum antibiotic, he didn't like that I challenged him. It was very uncomfortable, he is very money driven. I was the one mind you who requested the blood work. I knew my dog had an infection. Kluttz and I had words, he of course did like that I refused to let him have his way with testing and my money. He did prescribed the antibiotic. I decided to leave and find a new vet office that was more inline with the care of my dogs not a financial bottom line. About a week later I requested my dogs records. I was told they would be waiting for me. I before picking up the records called and asked if I could get one last refill a pain killer for my same dog who has severe arthritic pain. Oh, did I mention they raised their rates with NO warning ? Kluttz refused. He put my dogs health in jeopardy because he was upset with me. To hurt me he took it out on my poor geriatric dog. That is not the mark of a caring medical professional!!! That is the mark of a small, petty, spiteful weak minded person. To that end, if you want to be part of your pets health care, have a say about treatments and financial responsibilities don't have this person as your vet. If you are willing to relinquish control of your pet's care and your money then this is the vet for you. Do your due diligence and be active in the health care of your pet(s) and finances. I do have to say, the other staff members are very good, kind and understanding and Dr. Maskol is very good. It's a shame Dr. Maskol is in business with Kluttz. Robert Sorel
Great Vet. All staff is excellent.
Wonderful, caring and knowledgeable!
We have always been very pleased with the care of our dogs at Abbey Animal Hospital! The doctors, techs and office staff are very friendly and caring! Our elderly, diabetic dog got very sick last year while staying in a kennel while we were on a 2 week vacation. The kennel worked closely with Abbey Animal Hospital and we got daily updates from Dr. Jay and the techs, which was very comforting since we were so far away from home! Excellent care! I would highly recommend Abbey Animal Hospital!
My elderly parents live in the outskirts of Baltimore and your staff took such great care of them last week. You truly have a special animal clinic. Thanks for your help. Their dog is their life and baby!
Having used Dundalk animal hospital for years, I was really pleased with Dr Kluttz. I was very upset that he left there, but found out where he was practicing. Now he owns Abbey animal hospital in Perry Hall. Dr Maskol from Dundalk has also joined him there. I just took my dog there for a bad eye and was pleased with the genuine care and compassion he showed us. It was a little bit of a drive but well worth it. Even his fees were less than Dundalk. The staff were also very friendly and helpful. No wonder in the past 3 months they gained 230 new clients, most from dundalk animal hospital. Dr Foster should just retire now,he wont have much business soon
the staff is the best. been an Abbey customer for 35+years. didn't think anyone could replace Dr. Orrell, but I was wrong. We got Dr. Jay. He really loves his work & his patients.. He treats them like his own. As long as I have pets I will be an Abbey customer.
Love this place. They truly love animals
Wonderful staff who really care about your fur babies! I can't say enough good things about everyone here!!
Great Doctor's and wouldn't go anywhere else
Abbey Animal Hospital has provided fantastic service and care for my pets for the past 20 years. Recently, I had a cat that developed cancer. Jim provided me with x-rays of the affected area and explained all of the alternatives. He was truly concerned for my pet and for my feelings. We decided that the best course of action was to put the animal down. His staff sent me a symphony card signed by all of the staff, and a plaster mold of the animals foot print. Abbey Animal Hospital provides fantastic care, and compassion. You can be sure that your pet is receiving the very best of care.
Been going to Dr. Maskol for years, always been great. On our latest visit both Boxers needed a few vaccinations each, nails were trimmed and ears were cleaned Dr. Maskol was great and we were out on no time.
Always Excellent Care for Our Pom Vera
I followed Dr maskol from Dundalk to Abby,,real love the staff here better,,little longer to drive but are babies are worth it!!!!
We have brought a total of 9 animals to Abbey over the past 15 years. We have brought bouncy puppies and furry kittens to Jiim.He has always been a total professional in guiding us through the care + feeding of our youngest pets.And...we have had to send 4 of the nine to "the rainbow bridge" since our time began with Jim and his incredible staff. Suffice it to say that the entire team were beyond compassionate during what I believe is the most difficult part of loving a pet. We will bring our dear companion animals to Jim and his staff for as long as Abbey is in business.
Good veterinarian and professional people working within the establishment .
Always good care
I have gone to this clinic for several years, for my 2 dogs. Having been to other clinics in the area, Abbey Animal Hospital is by far the best and has the most knowledgeable vets and the staff. Highly recommend!
Abbey has been our family vet for years! Always available when I need them, answer any question, and always make me feel like I’m the best dog mom in the world!

Love this place. Have been trusting Dr Maskal with the care of my Animals for almost 20 years now. The staff is friendly and efficient. Highly recommended, would go no place else.
We cannot say enough good things about the quality of care we have recieved from the fine folks at Abbey. We and our parents have been taking our dogs to Dr. Jim and his staff for many years. In fact, his diligence, expertise, and downright stubborn will not to give up saved our dog's life during an extended illness. The staff is always professional, friendly and caring. We highly recommend Abbey to all of our friends and family.
Dr Terry Maskol use to be in Dundalk. Now he is at Abbey Animal Hospital. We love him. We followed. Abbey Animal Hospital is very helpful and inviting to all. Very professional Personal and also personable. Love this place.
The best
We are genuinely pleased with Abbey Animal Hospital. Dr. Jay, his staff of techs are fantastic! Aside from the normal work of a vet, you can tell from everyone that this is not just a job. Dr. Jay and his staff put their heart and soul into every visit. Their genuine love for pets/ animals really shows and is refreshing!! They are always prompt, courteous and very accommodating. We have been extremely pleased from day 1.
Abbey Animal Hospital is the best. You can tell every single employee cares about you 4 leg pal. We use Dr J and I highly recommend him. He is gentle, caring and makes sure you understand what is going on with your pet.
My first time ever owning a pet and the staff was so friendly and helpful with all my questions and concerns. They treated my Shih Tzu Princess Hope so well. She had to receive her second vaccination and Dr. Klutz and technician Jason was very gentle and amazing.

Wonderful doctors and staff.
I am so glad that I found this place. The staff here is very nice, the environment is clean, and I couldn't ask for a better veterinarian than Dr. Jay. Every time I come here he is so kind to me and my dog and he makes sure that I leave with peace of mind and a happy tail- wagging fur baby
Dr. Jay and the entire staff are great. The always have appointments available that fit any schedule
Problems are fully discussed and not pushed aside i appreciate that. But also the kind and gentle way that both my pet and I have been treated.
Friendly staff and a warm, welcoming environment. Very clean and well maintained exam room with cool automatic up/down table so you don't need to lift your dog if they are a large breed. Cost is comparable to other vets in the area.
Dr. J was wonderful with my dogs. Patient, gentle and thorough for their yearly check up. Entire staff outstanding.
Very knowledgeable staff. Dr Maskol is a wonderful veterinarian.
I'm happy for you that are Happy with Abbey. Unfortunately I am not one of those. I recently boarded my dogs, for the 2nd time with Abbey. After the first time, I swore I would never board them again with Abbey due to the outrageous cost. But unfortunately due to a family death I didn't have much of a choice and needed someone ASAP. Well no surprise to me my expectations were spot on. I will NEVER board with them again. Just Say No!! Not only was the bill double what I expected -$650 mind you, I was charged an exam fee for each of my dogs which I was never informed about prior to bringing them in nor did I receive a courtesy phone call to let me know that was the case. I had to wait until I picked them up to be told, "oh BTW you were charged two exam fees"!! WTH and all for a Flu booster????. Unbelievable. 1 Star, would do less if I could!!!.
Caring, knowledgeable staff.
I’m a new customer & so far I really like the place. The staff were very welcoming & suggested a great place for me to have my dog groomed. They asked all the right questions & loved on my Yorki pup. I left feeling informed & excited to return.
Incredible!
My dog is all better because of abbey animal hospital. I'm so thankful for everything they have done.
Love Abbey! They've been our vets since 1985!
Doctors are doing a outstanding job. They always have called me with follow-up.
Amazingly caring staff!!!!
Caring vet
We recently took our dog here for the 1st time and this place is absolutely the best. The staff and veterinarian were top notch. WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!!!
Love this place!! My dog and cats are in the best hands when they go for their care. When the time came to say goodbye to my beloved dog, Dr Orrell and staff got me through with caring & understanding for both my dog and me. Everyone on staff is a pleasure to deal with. Dr Orrell is the best.
Very courteous staff, Minimal wait time which was great. Good bedside manner. Very recommendable animal hospital!
Friendly, professional, helpful and most of all, you took care of Bella Sophia. We were impressed at the way Dr. J. did a thorough examination on Bella. We will be back.
Staff was awesome treated us like family
The vets at Abbey Animal Hospital have always done a great job with our dogs. They worked with us during the last stages of our last dog's life. They helped us through a tumor surgery and through Madison's final goodbye. They have been with our current dog, Molly, since we rescued her. She has issues dealing with men, but they have handled her beautifully. She is still somewhat dog reactive, and the staff work with us to avoid outbursts. We wait outside until the waiting room is clear (which is never long). The waiting room and exam rooms are always clean and comfortable. She came to us with parasites and a bad case of mange that required multiple treatments. She was still hesitant about people and her surroundings, but she adapted to the Abbey staff and got along with them great. Dr. Jay is very laid back and does not trigger Molly at all. Molly looooooooves going to the vet. She loves the vet techs there. Jenn is especially helpful and is great with all of the animals I've seen her interact with. Even after a tough, painful surgery Molly still loves the folks at Abbey <3 Molly had to have knee surgery that wound up being more complicated than expected. The practice worked with us on the price since it would be more than we were quoted. We have also used Abbey Animal's boarding for Molly and she was well cared for while we were traveling. I really cannot say enough good things about Doc Orell and Dr. Jay and all of the staff.
I took my 12 year old chihuahua a couple of days ago and I will never take my pets to another vet. From the time I walked in and the technicians and staff I really felt my dog was getting expert care. The vet, Dr. Klutz was so precise in what was needed and I just can't say how much comfort he provided. He explained exactly what was needed I will never take my pets anywhere but here and I will refer all my friends and family. Thank you so much Abby Animal Hospital .
