Our visit was truly an emergency. The technicians and DVM's were so kind to our dog and to us. They took excellent care of our sweet dog. Although our's was not a happy ending, we couldn't have asked for better and more supportive care.

I can't begin to explain how amazing these people are. They care about your pet and you. My dog has liver disease and has had a tough road. He has been to this emergency vet MANY times, and each time everyone has treated us with compassion and dignity. They truly care about not just your pet, but you. After a long battle we had to put our dog down, the vet who assisted us was not only an amazing physician, but above all was an amazing person. I can't even begin to explain how thank thankful I am. I don't think they'll ever know how much their compassion truly meant to my finance and myself. If your pet is ever in need of emergency care, this is the place to go. I hope someday they'll read this, because I just want to say THANK YOU.

My cat had an aortic thromboembolism. I took him to this location. It was late at night and the front door was locked. Both of the attendants at the desk could see that I had my hands full, but took their time finishing their conversation before buzzing me in. After i filled out the paperwork, the receptionist said she needed his weight, and I responded he was just at the vets and was 11 pounds. She rudely said she needed me to take him out and place him on the scale anyways. I stated he was in pain and could barely walk, but she insisted, I took him out but he was in such pain and thrashing about that we weren't able to get an accurate weight of him on the scales. She showed me to a room and said the doctor would be in shortly. We waited about 20 minutes and the doctor never came in. My cat ended up having a seizure and died before the doctor even came in. She never apologized for taking so long. She just looked at him and confirmed he was dead, stated someone would be in to collect him, and walked out. I waited in the room with him, but no one ever came in. I eventually went out to the reception desk and inquired on what was going on. She stated that the doctor did not tell her that my cat had died or she would have been in right away. All in all, a very poor experience with unexperienced staff. I would never bring a sick animal here again.

Brought in a 9-yo cat with pica who had been vomiting bile for several days. Cat was given anti-nausea meds and sub-q fluids after ruling out anything serious and she recovered quickly. Staff was great and in the end we all had a good laugh about the $500 hairball. All records were sent to our regular vet and I am grateful to the relief staff available for weekend emergencies. I do have concerns about their billing practices. While in the waiting area the receptionist was calling patients who had been over charged to arrange a refund (props!). But then two days later I was notified that we were under-billed for services by almost $100. The line items were legitimate and it all worked out, however the two experiences give me pause about returning, FWIW.

Dr Wolf and the entire staff saved my Kupkakes life. Their quick reaction and how fast they took care of her emergency needs is the only difference between the life and death of her. I can not even start to tell everyone just how wonderful my baby was treated and how well they treated me through my crying. They were wonderful ... thank you so much for what you did. I can never say just how much what you did saved me. God Bless all of you .... and for the nurse that came out to my van took one look at my 77 lb dog and never hesitated or skipped a beat, grabbed her and ran her in the building. They noticed her severe distress and acted on it and for that my little girl is still with me. God is the Geatest

My 14 month old rottie has had issues with allergies. She's has scratch off most of her hair around her eyes and have made her nipples bleed and has hot spots all over her. She is on allergy meds. So I showed up with her yesterday morning and they refused to even look at my dog. The vet entered the room and said why are you here because allergies is not an emergency. So we left. This vet was extremely rood and unprofesstional. She even asked if I understood the difference between a vet and an emergency vet. Completely speaking down to me!

08/08/19 A couple of weeks ago, my Weinmaraner Bellah (approximately 11 years old, she is a rescue dog) was getting sicker and sicker very quickly and the tests that were performed so far were only showing a possible infection. I took her to the hospital late at night and Dr. Wilson started her care and Dr. O'Brien took over her care in the am and all the tests and what they observed came up with a tick born illness called Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever. She improved so much in 2 days and then one week she was almost completely better! The whole staff over there are absolutely awesome people!

This place lies lies lies. My son (my dog) was at the end of his life and we as a family decided it was best for him not to suffer anymore and we talked to the staff here multiple times before we brought our dog in. They told us we could be with him from the very moment we walked threw their doors, to when we felt was enough time for us to say our goodbyes and leave. Our dog was in the process of taken his last breaths when we walked threw their doors. They then told us we couldn't go out back with them to put a cathador in because of the privacy of the other animals in the back. We told them we did not want to be separated from him he was taken his last breaths. I'm sorry but my last concern is looking at other peoples animals while mine is dying in my arms. Anyways they took him "out back" as we filled out paperwork. They put us in a room for their doctor to come in and tell us our baby was gone. I flipped as I knew aswell as they knew he was taking his last breaths and didn't want this to happen. I didn't want him to pass looking at a stranger. They then tries to tell me I'm sorry he was already gone when you brought him in. The hell he was, he was on my shoulder breathing the best he could being his last breaths. They took him out of the his blanket and put him in a pissy towel to bring him into us. We choose to have him cremated with his name and his paw print on his urn. When they called us to pick Him up his urn had his name on it but no paw print, then his death certificate was wrong. I called to ace it fixed and they said "oh yes no problem it will take about a week". Ok so here it is a month later I just called to figure out where his certificate is and they didn't have time to talk to me at 3 in the afternoon. I just hope someone else don't have to go threw this. I paid specially for him to be cremated by himself and now I dont even know if he was cremated by himself after all this hassle .

Somehow my review keeps getting deleted?! One star. I’d give zero if I could. The vet here straight up didn’t do his job. He was having some kind of attitude/emotional problem. This clinic should be ashamed of themselves for employing someone like him.

My husband & I have had the unfortunate need, on a couple occasions with our dogs, of having to utilize the Westbrook Emergency Animal Hospital, during the wee hours of the morning & evening, however, the level of care & genuine concern they showed to us & our dogs, is nothing less than exceptional. From the ladies at the Reception desk, to the Vet techs & Dr.'s, we've always had positive experiences. I truly cannot say enough about everyone there. They are all kind, caring, genuine, understanding and patient, and they always explain things, and are always more than happy to answer any & all questions. Never have we felt rushed. They really are just a great bunch of animal loving people, looking to help all who walk (and run) through their doors, no matter what time of the day or night it is. I've also called them in the wee hours of the morning for accidentally ingested foods & medications, of course freaking out, and they have helped me every time, patiently, calmly and professionally. As a matter of fact, what prompted me coming here to leave this 5-star review, is that I JUST had to call them for help!! My youngest Keeshond decided to EAT his little sister's medication, and ate DOUBLE the amount of the regular dose. I've been watching him like a hawk ever since, with scenarios & questions keeping me in a state of frenzy. So, I called the great folks and was advised as to what to do! THANK YOU EVERYONE!!! I THINK I might be able to get some sleep tonight now! :) All in all, I love this place, and what's more, is my dogs do too!!

Kellie Bowden

Everyone was so helpful and very nice with my cat for her knee surgery.

I would not give even one star as the vet working the day we came in was looking to get profit from fear. He was rude and arrogant because we were quoted half the price from the front desk compared to what he quoted. His comments and mannerism were less than comforting in our time of despair. We contacted another vet at 9 pm that night via the phone who checked in with us that night and again the next morning with some ideas as to help our puppy. Not for profit but because of his love of animals. The emergency vet told us not to feed our pup but this vet gave suggestions as to what to feed him to help his situation. Thank god we kept looking beyond this office for assistance as I left that office thinking my puppy wouldn’t make it the wknd to 24 hours later having him back to normal.

Karen Strange

This was the worst veterinary experience I have ever had. It was time to put our dog down and being a Sunday we felt we had no other options so we went here. The tech that set everything up was inconsiderate and profoundly inhumane. I will not go into what happened but I have put many dogs down in many environments, this was like no other experience of doing this...it was deeply disturbing to have been a part of. Both my husband and I were traumatized by what happened. My sweet dogs last 10 minutes were filled with pain, fear and panic all due to how she was managed and handled. Several days later, I wrote the clinic a letter explaining what had happened and I find it odd that no one had the curtesy to call or write me back apologizing for what had happened at their clinic. I would NEVER recommend this place. In an emergency you need to be an advocate for your animal as this place does not have a standard of conscientiousness and kind care that should be taught to all employees...be wary as they may not be acting in your animals highest good.

Nobody in the state of maine will see my guinea pig who just had a miscarriage including this one. So if you have an emergency with your pet i will never suggest going to this one or any vet in southern maine.

Karen Miller

Despite the fact that my dog had already passed away before we arrived, we were treated respectfully. Our dog was wrapped in a sheet and placed in a little cardboard "casket" before he was given back to us at no charge to us. They gave us time to collect ourselves and did not usher us out the door.

Ashley Storer

Do not bring your dog here! I brought my dog here for a small cyst that burst. It looked infected. The Doc told my boyfriend and I that he'd have to "put him under" to look at it and "flush it out. This is rediculous to give as your only option! Our VET the next day shaved, cleaned and checked it out without any sedation needed!

My guinea pig was presenting concerning symptoms, and it happened to be on a Sunday, so I called the Animal Emergency Clinic. They told me that the doctor that sees guinea pigs was there only for another hour, so I had to make a quick decision to bring in my pet. When the vet saw my guinea pig, he told me nothing was wrong with him, and that the noises I was hearing him make were just normal guinea pig noises. I explained to him that the noises he was making were NOT normal to my guinea pig, and that he had other symptoms, like discharge from his eyes and nose, congested breathing, lethargic, etc. He just said, "Nope, thats all normal." I couldn't believe how this vet treated me and my pet. He didn't want to listen to anything I had to say. He discharged me and my pet, and I was charged $90. My guinea pig died a week later :,( Clearly he was not "fine" and maybe if the vet had listened to me my dear pet would still be here :(

The doctors and technicians were all great. My cat was not doing very well when I brought him in. They took him in right away and started caring for him. Then both the technician and doctor kept me informed every step of the way. They kept him overnight, and bright and early the next morning I got a call from the doctor updating me on his status. I spoke with both the doctor and technician when I picked him up later that day. I just wish it was closer (I live in Kennebunk). Emergency care is not cheap, but the final bill was less than the bottom end of the estimate.

Thank HEAVEN for this clinic. I know they're expensive, but the work they do and the compassion they showed us was well above and beyond. They diagnosed my pup with Addison's disease just in time, she was on her last legs and literally dying in my arms, at only two years old. Would I recommend them? Before you even got the question out of your mouth, I would wholeheartedly answer "YES".

Mikaela Wagenbach

Brought my 1 yr old kitten in who couldn’t even stand and had lost a ton of weight. After 2 nights of very little progress, we were running out of money. Staff worked with me and taught me how to care for her and give her medicine at home and she’s now eating again and being a little trouble maker. The doctors saved her life literally and without them she probably wouldn’t still be with us. I also brought my 3 month old puppy in 2 years ago for a broken growth plate in his leg. After a surgery, a few pins, and weeks of healing no one can even tell he had a broken leg. He’s the fastest runner at the dog park. Thank you for all you do

They are very knowledgeable and the care and staff are top notch! I took my golden retriever here the other summer to have a hot spot treated, and then again recently to have my cats leg looked at. They were honest and thorough, and the fees were right.

My border collie was admitted this weekend. Everyone was highly experienced from the front desk staff through the veterinarians. The vet had to perform a delicate procedure around my dog's heart and knew exactly what he was doing. My dog stayed overnight and every time I called to get lab results or check status the vet immediately took my calls directly. I highly recommend this facility and am so happy I decided to drive there instead of other nearby options. Best quality available!

This place is the 24 hour 7-11 of emergency vet care. They saved our cat after a dog attacked. $1500 later and our cat is as healthy as ever. She can't blink her left eye anymore, but really, she should be dead.

As other's have said you never want to need an ER but I am very happy they exist. We had an incident with our cat on a Saturday back in November and our regular vet, though open, was closing soon and unable to do much to help him out (he had a blockage and anyone with male cats knows this is an urgent issue) so we went to Warren Ave Emergency. A surgery was performed that night and went very well...but as things sometimes go our elderly furry friend had complications and ended up needing a more care. Everything was explained to us in detail and confidently and they were beyond patient with us. His entire ordeal was 3 weeks, some of his care at home and some of it being medically boarded. We were NEVER pressured to choose between treating him or to euthanize him...they were very respectful and non judgmental on both subjects. The cost was high, I won't lie, but that's just the way it goes. As of today he is happy and healthy and we will hopefully have him into his twilight years. Fast forward to last week and our OTHER elderly male cat came down suddenly ill on a Saturday evening...we were given an accurate diagnosis even before tests could come back as well as treatment options. He ended up being boarded for 4 days while they treated his pancreatitis. Once again the staff was informative and patient (it's ALWAYS busy here, we have been a dozen times in two months at all hours) and have always felt like our animal was a priority. The entire staff from front desk to techs to surgeons were sweet to our cats which made leaving them there when they were at their sickest a little easier. It's hard to reviews places like this when the outcome is bad and you lose a loved one and we were lucky in that they saved our cats but even if things hadn't gone so well they received top notch care. The cost between our two cats is bonkers...but that's not the fault of the facility. We already had a care credit card but it is an option for people faced with pets needing care and not having the money on hand. I can't even imagine how heartbreaking this job must be and we really appreciate everyone here and the work they do.

John Paparazzi

Each and every person there was truly wonderful. They care very much not only for animals, but people too, with time taken to articulate minute details or simply listen, both empathetic and to glean information or clues in order to best treat the patient. In an oft cold and impatient world, each and every technician, doctor, and office staff person I encountered was extraordinary. On a trip, my dog Brutus, of whom I love more dearly than anything or one I've ever known had a big emergency. What ensued over two long days was harrowing, yet it quickly became clear he was in great hands. We are together again, and I will forever be touched by the experience and kindness of these people. The world is a better place with each and every one of you in it. Thank you so very much.

A Saturday vet concluded that our dog is likely to have marijuana toxicity. When asked what her gut said, she said cancer and asked in we wanted to put him down at that moment. WHAT!! From marijuana to cancer. Guess what! He sprung up the next morning as we were walking down the stairs wagging his tail and asking to go outside. I anyone has ever seen someone who was heavily stoned, you would have said the same thing about our dog. Thank God we knew not to put him down!

This past Monday I had to bring our beloved family dog in to be put to sleep. The kids and I were a complete mess and the staff at Portland Emergency and Specialty Care were so attentive and compassionate. They got us into a room immediately and explained the whole process since this was the first time I've been through this with a pet. We did not feel rushed and the care they showed our dog was incredible. Today in the mail I received a hand written condolences card. The staff really cares, not only for the animals they are helping but the humans that love those pets. I would certainly recommend this facility to anyone who needs care for their pets, they really go the extra mile!

All I can say is I spoke to someone on the phone looking for proper directions to help my sick puppy feel better. Mind y’all, he’s thrown up 5 times today. Whomever I spoke to on the phone told me to not feed OR (you ready for this?) offer my puppy WATER. WHAT? DEHYDRATE my SICK puppy whose LOSING FLUIDS from throwing up? I am at a loss for words and will never bring my animals here. If this was over the phone I can only imagine what goes on behind doors.

I took my dog in after she had been attacked and needing cleaning of her wounds. The front desk ladies were kind and helpful. When the doctor came into the room, my dog was scared and was barking and cowering away - she had just been in a fight of course she was wary - the doctor made negative remarks about her and acted scared of her. He had to go get the tech to do the rest of the work. I understand not being comfortable but the way he went about it was rude and off putting.

The best & most professional vet clinic I have ever taken my pets to!! They're friendly and always comfort my cats. They're gentle and kind too! Very nice and professional. I felt my animal was in a good hands here. I saw them handle an emergency for somebody else in a very caring and sensitive way.

Great, friendly staff, even in the middle of the night, took xrays of our sick kitten and offered successful solutions. Also took care of two dogs that appeared to have lost a fight with a porcupine, never seen so many quills, the dogs were back in the lobby when our kitten was being brought back to us. Very fast and effective group of veterinarians. Hopefully I'll never have to go back there, but I know where I'm going if my pets need emergency care. Thanks everyone!

Not the place you ever really want to have to go, and of course the price is going to be higher than your regular vet. But they are friendly and very helpful, and are as fair as reasonably possible.

Laura L

We have paid them over $2500 this year for a dead cat and blind dog. Their suggestion was to hold our cat overnight after an abscess burst "to keep her hydrated." (Not even for treatment, mind you, just to keep her hydrated). Thank god we declined (though they still charged us nearly $400 just to clean and bandage the wound); she died anyway (NOT of dehydration) by the time we drove home. Six months later we had the misfortune of having to take our dog there after an eye injury, in which we were told the chances were "very good" that he could save his eyesight in one of his eyes if we operated (for $2000, of course). Two weeks later... Guess what? He's blind. I wish there were refunds or a BBB for this kind of situation, but because it's a veterinary clinic, I'm guessing we're SOL. HORRIBLE -- don't ever bring your pet here.

Travis Schultz

My girlfriend had to have her dog out down. This place was great with comforting her and her parents. I am not sure how much it was but they were very polite and understanding. They let us stay in the room with her dog as long as we wanted, before and after the procedure.

Awful! Avoid this place if you can. The doctors were so careless. Made you feel like just another dollar bill walking in the door... it ...spent just shy of $1,000 for the doctor to eventually offer euthanizing my 6 year old dog... got to an actual animal hospital and they had answers and plans ... said if things were recognized when we first went to emergency care he’d have a better chance at living. Went to emergency care twice btw... Saturday and Monday...He’s currently hospitalized now thanks to this emergency clinic not having a clue as to what they were doing... as long as they were finding ways to bring $$ into their clinic, they didn’t actually care about the well being of our pup... discussing

M Johnson

Came here for a consultation appointment for my dog, who had a mass that needed to be removed from his lip. I am thankful for the surgeon and oncologist for the information they provided me on my dog's actual health state, as the vet I had been seeing prior had given me bad information -- she had told me that mast-cell tumors were non-cancerous and that the only reason she didn't want to remove the mass my dog had was because she wasn't sure she could close the wound correctly. In truth, my dog has cancer and removal of the tumor would require surgery that would include removal of part of his jaw. They also uncovered that my vet had been assigning treatments to my dog for illnesses he, by their own records, had tested negative for, and had completely downplayed other medical issues that should be at least monitored as "just normal aging". HOWEVER... when it came to discussing treatment, I was not presented with options. The monthly chemotherapy (not including any supplemental medications) was more than I could afford. The surgery would be impossible to save up for if I tried to work the chemo anyways. If I skipped the chemo and only got the surgery by the time I had the money it would be too late (and chemo would still be needed after). Even after I had expressed this to the oncologist, I was made to feel like there was no other option and that if the chemo did not start within a couple weeks, the tumor would soon become so big that my dog would be in danger of rupturing the tumor while attempting to eat and could bleed out (part of the tumor had actually ruptured about two weeks prior to the visit and he would have bled to death if not for emergency surgery done in a Massachusetts clinic, and had been warned it could easily happen again). My husband I were left to make the decision to put my dog down and when we called the oncologist to inform him of our intentions, while he did offer his condolences, he did not suggest any other options. Thankfully... we did not need to put him down. A vet who is local to where I've been visiting with family had agreed to do the euthanasia on the condition he do a "quality of life evaluation" first. I'm glad this vet was the only one who had an opening in the next couple days, as he was the only one that insisted on that evaluation. After reviewing the oncologist's report, he agreed on the diagnosis and what needed to be done, but not on the chemo drugs that had been offered. The vet had a suggestion for a different set of drugs that was well within my ability to pay (and still save up for the surgery, which he might not actually need if he responds well). This chemo treatment is not a new one, it's apparently quite common for use on MCT's, so I'm left to wonder why it was not mentioned as even a "last resort to euthanasia" by the oncologist. So... I'd give the Specialists side five stars when it comes to diagnosing what's wrong with a pet and uncovering other problems. But they lose stars when it comes to offering options that fit tight budgets, even when informed that euthanasia is being considered. Take whatever diagnosis they give you and ask around, you might be able to find someone who can work with your limitations. To put it into perspective... they wanted $600 a month for my 20lbs dog's chemo. I could only afford up to $200. The chemo the new vet is giving my dog is under $30 a month.

We were very grateful that this office is open 24/7 when we had an emergency with our dog on a Sunday afternoon. All the staff and doctors that worked with us were kind, professional and knowledgeable. The clinic is very clean. We hardly had to wait for the doctor. They promptly sent medical records to our local vet, so that the local vet was informed. Within a few days, the Animal Emergency Clinic was also very helpful over the phone when I had a question about medication. Thank you for such good and compassionate work!

While the care of our dog went well which is obviosuly a priority the staff was terrible at communication, they ran us 4 hours behind so we missed our daughters valecdictorian award. When I asked if I could get on their wifi I was told " we don't have wifi" and they refused to let us use the password. Cost :$2200. Money making is a priority here

Kathleen Jarvis

Great info & discussion from radiologist after dog ultrasoud. Giving 3 stars vs 5 as had to wait too long for appt for ultrasound & 1 week wait for surgical consult.

What an amazing staff thank you for your support during this difficult time

Unfortunately we have had to visit this clinic twice in the past couple weeks but I have nothing but good things to say about the service and treatment we received. Everyone working at the front desk and answering the phones are informative and thorough. Our first visit was on a Sunday afternoon for an illness and we were seen promptly. The veterinarian and technician were both wonderful. Our second visit was a scheduled appointment after our puppy had an injury and we were not disappointed with the care that was received. The surgeon was knowledgable and great with our puppy. It is very clear that everyone here loves animals and truly wants to help them. The cost is a little higher than our usual veterinarian's office but that is expected. I highly recommend this clinic, just give them a call ahead of time so they know you are on our way and can prepare for your arrival!

They are the best. Really care about your pet.

I'd rank them higher, but they're cost is through the roof and there's no sliding scale or anything. So, if you're pet is in desperate need of care, hopefully it's when your wallet is thick.

Will never take my dog back. He has a neurological issue. Said he had a heart murmur and not healthy. Well turns out he is healthy didnt need surgery. Do not take animals here not a good practice.

Sheila Nichols

Great personable, friendly atmosphere, willing to work within my budget.

Jessica Moore

I’d give a two because they were able to save the dog. But the wait times and run arounds they put you through I almost would have rather risked a longer drive

I had my cat, Purgatory, seen several times on an emergency basis. The doctors were so kind and helpful. I couldn't afford a $2k neuro workup, so they did offer another lower-cost option of an overnight of antibiotics and fluids, or putting her to sleep. Though they were guarded about her success, I am so glad they granted my wishes and kept her overnight. She rebounded and I got another truly wonderful 7 weeks with her before the unknown culprit overcame her just yesterday. Purgatory made it clear to me that she needed to go, that it was truly time, and when I called ahead to ask about euthanasia, the woman on the phone was very kind and sweet. When we arrived she took us to a room with Purgie right away and let us be with her as long as we wanted to before calling in the doctor. I knew it was the absolute best I could do for her, release her from her pain, but still, having to make the end of life decision is a heavy weight to bare. It happens so quickly and there's no going back, but my heart of hearts and Purgie said it was time for her to slumber. The doctor assured me she would pass away peacefully and she did; the look on her face was the most peaceful that I had seen on her in a few days. I was allowed to stay with Purgatory through her last breath and the doctor was super supportive. He let me have another few minutes to say my goodnight, sweet dreams, and goodbye to my precious girl. They handled her case wonderfully from start to finish and I will be forever grateful for their kindness and compassionate care.

They do the best they can. If your pet has to stay over night this is place to go because they are open 24 7 and they have full time vets stay in the room with the pets.

We took our cat in because he was sick. They were so prepared and on top of things. We felt incredibly taken care of.

I will give one star because as our cat will likely live, even though we were asked repeatedly if we wanted to put her down. Our 7 year old cat had a breathing issue that our Dr, Dr Shivley from Lake regional Animal Hospital, referred us to for more analysis after she didn't respond to medication after a couple days. Lake Region Animal Hospital is fantastic, caring and fair. They truly want to best for their animals and their families.I brought my daughter with us to the appt, which we had made several days before bringing her, not an emergency visit, but we were charged as such because we asked that the neck be examined before we would consider putting her down. We were told about the overall estimated cost from the get go. $3954.00! and, we could take out a loan! She is being discharged now, she had surgery around 4:30 yesterday. They aren't even keeping her for 24 hours for observation although she hasn't eaten anything yet. I think we were manipulated, and very much over charged. Our cat had an infection likely from a foreign object causing an irritation that manifested into a mass. It was cleaned out, in less than an hour, she is being sent home with a catheter and if we want her to stay there and be observed, it will cost an additional, $450.00 -$500.00 to do so. I am not a complainer and I thank God our cat isn't dead right now. It makes me think about the very many families that simply don't have an extra $4000 to save their pet. There are several other animal hospitals in the greater Portland area. The Animal Emergency Clinic is a money making machine first and foremost. I wonder how these people sleep at night after their shift and how many animals are needlessly euthanized because they went to this place.

Chris Stevens

Trust these people. I call ahead for emergencies and they are always ready to intake when I arrive. They also help keep costs down, and often do things for less than anticipated.

I brought my Greyhound in late at night, they buzzed me in . All the staff was caring, very considerate , and highly skilled.

What a terrific help this clinic was to me at about midnight through 0130 am. I found my dog had eaten between 1/3 and1/2 of a Lindt extra dark chocolate bar he found in my zipped purse. I have a 14lb daschund that is 7 years old. I googled "dog ate chocolate" and was terrified to read how dangerous it was. I called an 800 number they had listed with the article that advised me to get my charge card ready for the initial $39. consultation fee. I hung up and called my vet but of course they were closed but referred me by answering machine to the Animal Emergency Clinic. The Vet Tech Jess who helped me on the phone was amazing. She asked me all the details, weight of dog, age of dog, type of dog, how much chocolate, what type of chocolate then put me on hold. She came back with more appropriate questions and came back again advising me to give my dog 1 tsp of hydrogen peroxide and if he didn't vomit in 10 mins to repeat. She even encouraged me to call back to let her know how I was doing. The dog did vomit a large amount ( after 2 tsps) with some chocolate but mostly white which I attributed to the hydrogen peroxide. She encouraged me to bring him in but I'm home with a back injury and didn't think I could handle it. She didn't pressure me and was very understanding. She told me all the side effects to look for an what was an appropriate heart rate and what heart rate was too high and told me to bring him in if he appeared over caffeinated or had a high heart rate told me to feed him chicken and rice for the next 3 days. She informed me symptoms can show up for up to 3 days later. She even encouraged me to call back if I needed to. She advised me to bring him in for an injection to induce vomiting and hydration fluids and monitoring which would have most likely been the smartest choice but I just couldn't tolerate it. I was also unsure when he ate the chocolate. I felt he may have already digested it. I slept with him and took his heart rate and monitored him and he's perfect as far as I can tell. I'm boiling chicken now for him. Jess I believe saved my dogs life and was a huge comfort and help to me when I was very upset and scared. My dog also chewed carpet a few years ago causing a bowel obstruction and he needed to be operated on and watched overnight here. They let me visit him in the middle of the night when I got out of work at 1am and my dog did amazing. I LOVE THIS ANIMAL HOSPITAL. They obviously know what they are doing and really care about animals. They are fabulous to work with and it's a very convenient location for me. I am so grateful to them and feel very fortunate to have them in Portland when I need them. Thanks so much Laura Burke

My pets care was just okay but then I overheard Dr. Wolff speaking negatively about me with the rest of the staff behind closed doors while I was waiting for my discharge instructions. I thought this was highly unprofessional and will be avoiding taking my pet here in the future.

Jayden Butts

Very great service. Solved a long-term problem with a really simple fix! It was a Sunday so it was running a bit slow, but all the staff love what they do and it shows.

Heidi Kaminsky

I love this hospital. Nothing but good things to say from start to finish. I never felt rushed and they all took the time to talk with us which meant the world to me. I was very impressed with the professionalism at the hospital. Pam the receptionist was extremely pleasant and helpful and all of the techs were friendly and knowledgeable. Dr. Agrodnia is just amazing and I just can't say enough about her. She is over the top and has years of experience. Most importantly, she is hands down one of the most compassionate doctors I have ever met! I was very comfortable leaving my pet with PVS knowing she was in good hands. I can't thank them all enough. Highly recommended!!!

Terrible. Puppy got hit by a car. Needed $1000 to have him seen. The next day the said they couldnt guarantee life but another $1000 they thought they could save him. Then they said they needed $3000 more for a surgery. Then a couple days later they said the doctor put in the wrong size screws so she needed to take them out and put the right ones in. Another $2000. Final bill $7200. Beware they get you to agree to costs one step at a time. They know once you already spent $1000 you dont want to waste it so you will spend the other $1000. Once ypu spent $3000 they know you will spend another $2000. We had to use thier "recommended loan company" (care credit) to pay the loan.22% interest rate! In the end it cost us about $10,000 for 4 screws and a few night's there.

Under a stressful time the people here are very kind and considerate. They went above and beyond to provide us with information and our dog with the care he needed while our regular vet was away. I drove past another emergency clinic to get to this one after having used them a couple times in the past. So glad I did, they will be our go to for emergency needs in the future. Thank you!

Harper boy

Bad I do not recommend. Brought my dog in to refill her perscription. Ended up bringing her in back and drew blood and whatever else they did to her for no reason said it was just in case they did need blood. Which they didn't. Horrible

Took great care of my pup when he needed emergency weekend care requiring stitches. Up front on cost and procedure while showing love and compassion to my injured boy.

Vaughn Clark

They took great care of my dog.

It was a long haul and devastating that our Greyhound might loose a leg after being run over by a car. Thanks to the good care of everybody at the Animal Emergency Clinic she will regain use of her leg. Two months after surgery she no longer needs bandages. She lost a toe but she gained a leg. Thank you for working on her and believing that she will not need an amputation. She is a young dog and she is as grateful as we are. Thank you
