I have used Ponchatoula animal hospital for 8 years since moving to the area. I have two cats, a Lab, and 3 beagle rabbit dogs. With all my animals the clinic vets showed a high degree of knowledge as to what they were diagnosing with corrective procedures that follow being highly successful. I would recommend this clinic to everyone. My son started driving in from Metairie to use him and feels just as I do. He isn't worried about the drive when the quality of animal medicinry is there.

This place was originally recommended to me by a rescue group. My 1st visit there was amazing! I had an emergency on a Saturday right around the time they were supposed close and they told me I could come in. I figured since it was last minute I would be rushed out but I wasn't. They took great care of my cat and didn't try to do unnecessary tests. Their prices are affordable compared to other Vets in the area. Give them a try, I doubt you'll be disappointed.

This is the best place to take your furry friends for care. I have been going there for over 20 years when Dr. Earnst was the only vet there. Now he has a large staff of caregivers who make you and your pet feel at ease. You can call and get in real quick especially if you need to be seen right away. And the staff there is awesome. They treat your pet very well and explain things to you so you understand whats going on. Thank you all for the fabulous job you do.

My wife and I are passing through the area with our two dogs. One of them had stitches in an ear that needed to be removed. The Vet that stitched up the wound said that the dog would need to be sedated to remove them as they were deep in the ear. Dr. Duhon graciously agreed to remove the stitches and did so without sedating the dog - which was amazing. This is a wonderful clinic with a doctor who genuinely cares about the animals she treats. We are very lucky to have found her and strongly recommend her to anyone who has a pet.

My heart is broken! I brought my fur baby to the office on Friday the 23. She had nausea, vomiting, diarrhea and fever. I brought her in less then 15 hours after it began. I was seen as soon as we arrived. The lady vet I saw was not very compassionate, she did run a fecal test that was negative for parasites. She said it could be parvo or parasites. She said she was going to give her some fluids, worm her, steroid and antibiotic. She told me to take her home and let the meds she gave her kick in and if she got worse I would have to take her to Mandeville emergency clinic. I again asked her if the puppy could have parvo, but she said she looked to good to be parvo. I asked if I needed to disinfect my home, she stated no. She seemed better Saturday and that night she began being sick again. She died on Christmas! I learned Monday they had a parvo test they could have done and an anti viral medication she could have given but none of this was done . I am hurt, angry and heartbroken!! If I had seen my Dr. Ernest this would have never happened!! Now I am home crying and trying to adjust to not having my girl. When I called the office, all they could say is they were sorry. So be sure ask lots of questions. If you feel like I did uncomfortable and like the vet wasn't compassionate enough .... ask for someone else! The desk staff was very kind! I am just confused why not give the owner all options and any information to help!

We recently moved to the area so this was a first time visit. Our initial and final impression is that PAH is fantastic and all of the staff is so friendly and helpful. The wait wasn't long and the vet took her time and did a thorough exam. The office and exam rooms were very clean and did not smell like a vet's office. We appreciate the exceptional service and plan to primarily use PAH rather than driving to our Destrehan vet. Thanks PAH.

Have called this clinic twice for two separate issues. Extremely rude receptionist each time. Need to put one of my baby’s down and was told they lock doors at 5pm. I can’t physically load my baby by myself so wouldn’t be able to get to them until 545. Very disappointed with the lack of compassion and lack of knowledge when it comes to the specific breed of my baby. Won’t ever step foot into this place. If you live your fur babies I strongly advice you to go else where for quality loving compassionate care.

I have used this vet a few times. Pretty good care with a newly upgraded office which is nice. I recently used the boarding services, and was disappointed when the staff informed me that no one could not stay five minutes after closing so I could retrieve my pets after a weekend of stay. I had a mental picture of a line at the time clock. If the customer is not worthy of someone hanging over five minutes after closing, what chance does a pet have? Guess I will be looking for another vet.

I have two dogs, both rescues, a pit bull mix and German Shepard. My pit was having an allergic reaction, and as soon as I called, they were able to get me in for an appointment. Absolutely fabulous, the staff were kind, gentle, and most importantly very knowledgeable. I am sorry to say that I had to go to 3 different vets in Hammond to find one who truly cares for the animals. This vet, Ponchatoula Animal Hospital, was a blessing to my animals! Dr. Schmaltz, was so caring, thorough, attentive, and professional. He worked with my budget and at the same time gave my babies the care they needed. I am very grateful to have come upon this vet. We had to put our 14 and a half year old dog down. They we're so caring and gave is all the time we needed to spend with him. I also have two more dogs and I've always been really happy with the service. They are much more reasonable than other vets but with the same care and compassion. Will not recommend this place. Left my cat there over a weekend while I was out of town. My cat requires insulin and I left enough syringes for the weekend. When I picked the cat up the cat, I paid for the boarding and then they tell me that the insulin was left out over night during the weekend. Every vet I have ever dealt with has said it is extremely important to keep the insulin cold otherwise it goes bad. Then I realized that there were still 2 syringes left so the cat didn't get the required meds while I was away. Spoke to the Dr who gave the cat the shots and he said the cat was just to mean and he couldn't handle a declawed cat. He also told me I was no longer allowed to bring the cat back. I have to put the cat in boarding often because my work requires me to travel a good bit. This is the first "vet" that has ever said that they couldn't handle the cat.

I just went to have my little dog Dixie of nearly 16 years laid to rest yesterday morning. The young doctor and everyone there were so very kind and understanding. I can not thank you enough for making this very difficult time for me as kind and gentle as it could possibly be. She lived a very full and loving life. I was uncertain until the end. She seemed to be ready, but I had a hard time letting go. We have been across the country together and has been my constant companion since she magically arrived at my front porch as a baby in Nashville, TN. The vet estimated her age to be about 3 months old. She was by my side since. But yesterday she had a smile on her face as she went to sleep in my arms. It was a very sad time, yet beautiful and peaceful. Bless you all for taking such wonderful care of my baby over the years.

One of our kids has a few problems that couldn't seem to be taken care of by Nevada Veterinarian's. Dr. Duhon saved both of our very sick rescue cats. One of our cats has a low immune system and had diarrhea for almost the first year of his life. This poor cat was suffering horribly. After contacting the lady who adopted him out to us, she recommended changing vet offices to this one. She specifically recommended Dr. Bonnie Duhon because that is where she took all her adoption cats. After much research and work, Dr. Duhon diagnosed Nemo correctly and he was healed in just two weeks with a simple medication. Both cats also suffer from Feline Plasma cell pododermatitis (PPD), a rare disorder of the foot pads of cats. Colloquially it is often called “pillow foot.” While this may sound cute, the disease itself can be quite painful for affected animals. Dr. Duhon did a very successful surgery on Tiger's front paw. Then came the bladder stones...both cats are now on special food for life that dissolves the stones. If it wasn't for the caring team of professionals at this vet office, my cats would have continued to suffer at the hands of a less informed establishment.
