the best hospital for exotic animals around!
This clinic provides Excellent care for my daughter’s rabbit. We have seen Dr. Rich and Dr. Pence. The staff is polite and highly responsive.
Compassionate Caring credit to the community
Hands down best bird vet around!!!
We bring a lot of animals here. They are professional and quick.
Prepare to wait forever. I scheduled a nail trim - ONLY a nail trim - for my two guinea pigs. After waiting a solid 45 minutes, I finally asked if it would be much longer and I was told they were waiting on an available room and vet tech. Eventually, I asked to use the restroom and had to go thru the patient area to get there. A tech was sitting on the floor playing with a dog and more than one room was open and available. Finally, after over an hour of waiting, we were called and within 10 minutes my girls’ nails were clipped. Waited all that time for a 10 minute visit. Not to mention that my friend brought her bunny in this morning to have him neutered and they didn’t take him into surgery until 5 this afternoon. They then called her and left a voicemail to tell her he was out of surgery but they were closing and would call with an update first thing. I was just with her when all this happened this evening, and I’m horrified. My friend was under the impression her bunny would be in surgery much earlier in the day...and especially didn’t think they’d perform it last minute and then close down before she could even speak to them. So now he’s there overnight probably by himself, and he hasn’t eaten at all. I’m so distressed by the whole thing that I’ll likely be seeking another vet to care for my guinea pigs. It’s very upsetting
Very skilled, dedicated and kind people! My young daughter lost a Guinea Pig recently but the staff and doctors were so kind and considerate, it helped her appreciate she had done everything right. The paw-print card and the condolence card that arrived in the mail were unexpected and lovely touches. On a business perspective, services at this clinic are very economically priced too; I highly recommend them.
GREAT people. Amazing customer service. Outstanding care for your animals. Would recommend to anyone.
By far the most knowledgeable out there. I drive my little feathered babies 8 hours to see them...
We had an emergency in the middle of the night. I was afraid for Lucy. The doctor called me back and reassured me it was ok to bring my Guinea pig in the morning. They squeezed us in and took good care of her. I even get to meet other pet owners with similar pets and stories. I'm so glad they were there for me even in the middle of the night. I would never think of going anywhere else for my pet needs.
The wait is ridiculous. When you come in for your SCHEDULED appointment, you're still waiting like 20 minutes in the lobby. Then once they take you back you'll be there for an hour at least, no matter how small the issue is.
There usually is a wait time, but no more than maybe 20 mins. I like that they have boarding for birds. We travel often and have used it a few times. I have no problems with the doctors. Prices are reasonable.
They were rabbit smart and I felt comfortable leaving my bunny with them. They made sure she was good to go after surgery. I drove from Mississippi to see them. They will now forever be my exotic vet.
Always enjoy going here.
Great first visit for one of my snakes and even set up a health chek visit for another that i have. Would highly recomend for all your avian and exotic health needs
My parakeet fractured her leg. I brought her here as soon as possible. They charged me and emergency fee of $100, which is understandable. The whole leg ended up costing me $250. The part that upsets me is when I went for a follow up visit I ended waiting over an hour for the vet to see me. When I first came I felt he front desk did not care about my time, after the second visit I was positive. If I was over an hour late for one of my appointments I would lose my job, especially if I acted like I didn't care.
Dr pence is the best!!
Dr. Rich and Dr. Pence are outstanding veterinarians. You can really tell the entire team truly loves what they do.
Seeing Dr. Rich is always good.
Very nice and clean facilty, Very friendly staff and awesome Vets and techs. Be prepared this group of professionals are in demand, the wait can be long. Its well worth it though.
Brought in an injured Woodpecker fledgling. They were immediately helpful.
Very gentle, kind, and helpful.
Dr. Rich is, hands down, the best exotic vet out there. He has been taking care of my three ferrets for going on 3 years and he's just the best of the best. He is so knowledgable and thorough. I would NEVER take them anywhere else. Highly recommend him to anyone!
They really care for your pet as if its theirs.
I bring my ferrets to this vet, and here I know they are in excellent hands! My ferrets have been seen by both Dr. Rich and Dr. Pence, and both veterinarians are intelligent and excellent. When I brought my first ferret, Cannoli, here to receive his third distemper vaccination, he ended up having a delayed reaction to the vaccination a few hours after I left the vet and took him home. I immediately contacted the vet, and Dr. Rich was extremely caring and passionate to make sure Cannoli would be okay. He said that what happened to Cannoli is rare and that he wanted me to bring Cannoli back to the vet asap to get checked. Not only did he examine Cannoli, but he also took Cannoli home for the night so that he could monitor him and ensure that he was alright. I am beyond grateful for the care that Dr. Rich gave to him! He really went above and beyond to monitor Cannoli. If you are looking to bring your pet here, I highly recommend it!
I like this vet and office people , all give off good vibes. They seemed quite compassionate.
If you go here, pack a lunch. The average wait time (from my last 4 visits) is 4-6 HOURS. There were no emergencies, no client back-up, just incompetence and lack of interest. I was there with my bird today for over 5 hrs and never got seen. When I came out of the exam room after 2 hrs to see if there was a problem, the vet had his feet up, joking with his staff and playing with his dog. The contempt and indifference towards clients is shocking. Dr Rich has no interest or concern about his patients. Thank goodness that this was a recheck and not a sick bird. I will never return to this place again. It is horrifying.
Please! Please! if you love your reptile don't take it to this vet. They don't know male from female. They don't know that most female lizards will have to be spayed at some point in their lives. My poor baby would still be alive if she hadn't been miss-diagnosed twice by this vet. They may know birds and rabbits but not reptiles.
Great place for sugar gliders. My 6 year old broke a toe and unfortunately had to have it amputated. He is acting just like normal and doesn't even seem to be affected by it! Thank you Avian & Exotic!
Brought my rabbit for an initial annual visit with Dr. Rich. The staff is wonderful. They're very helpful and provided helpful tips and education for our Dutch rabbit. Recommend anyone with an exotic animal visit this clinic.
They take really good care of the animals
Best exotic vet ever! Always thorough and gentle with my pets do a great job with diagnostics. Very reasonably priced compared to dog and cat vets. They truly care.
Dr. Rich and his staff are wonderful! His office is also a great place to see all kinds of birds and animals that you wkuld not normally see.
Dr. Rich and Dr. Pence are both the best doctors for ferrets I have ever had the pleasure of meeting. My little ferret had hypoglycemia and ended up with cancer. By the time I found them it was too late. They treated him with chemo and gave my little boy almost 7 extra months with us. After 9 years of being in the family it was agony to say goodbye, but when I saw his pain it was time to let go. Dr. Pence was right there with me to help him go home. I have never seen such love and heartfelt empathy before. Especially for a pet that was not hers but mine. If I had only known them sooner. They truly care for all our special pets, believe me I know!
We met Dr. Rich for the first time yesterday. Our ferret Smokey has adrenal gland disease. Dr. Rich spent a lot of time with us explaining the disease and what to expect. He is very knowledgeable about ferrets and took great care of ours. He was able to implant our ferret with a hormone device that will prohibit the symptoms of the disease. We will definitely never let anyone else treat our ferrets in the future. Can't say enough about Dr. Rich and his staff. Thank you all for a great experience.
Words cannot express how amazing Dr. Rich is! I had always heard wonderful things about him. I live in Denham Springs, and had brought my bearded dragon to All Pets. The vet there treated my beardies tail and he nearly lost the end of it. I then decided to bring him to Dr. Rich, and he was amazing! Gave him some meds and his tail was better in the next two days! He gives amazing advice and I recommend him to EVERYONE! Doesn't matter if it's a bit of a drive for you. It's more than worth it!
Love this place. Wouldn't take my little buddies anywhere else.
Amazing
There is usually a wait of at least half an hour for scheduled appointments. But the doctors are good.
Great staff and caring doctors. Everyone goes above and beyond here
Best Avian Hospital with the very best veterinarians for birds!
Very knowledgeable
It was terrible! I had to wait on them for an hour!!!!!!
Very caring Dr. & nursing
Dr. Pence is amazing
Dr Rich and Dr Pence are so caring and professional. Would not trust anyone else with my babies!
Wonderful staff great service
The whole staff here is amazing! Dr. Pence & Dr. Rich are both very caring professionals. Don't forget to bring a treat for Dollie the Aussie Shep!
Great and caring staff. Very attentive and empathetic.
Excellent! One of the few exotic vets in area. NOT dogs and cats.
Great place to take exotics.
West Esplanade Veterinary Clinic is all about the money! 2/23/15 I took my very sick iguana in for an emergency visit to West Esplanade Veterinary Clinic. This was my first visit to the clinic and right away felt that they were more about the money than treating a sick animal. Everywhere you looked in the office was the vet commercializing and marketing something. During the course of my visit my bill was revised several times and each time credit card was charged right away as the bill kept going up and up. I knew going in that my Iguana looked very bad and after the diagnosis asked them to be straight with me on the changes he had for recovery. They assured me that with the proper treatment and if I signed here his recover would be fine. Sadly the next day my iguana was dead. I do not blame them for the death of my pet but as professionals if an animal is not going to make it they should not be so eager to take advantage of the grief of a pet owner and add insult to the loss of the animal. Bottom line this place is all about the money! You will be charged till it is last breath while they are telling you it will be okay if you authorize another $200 fee.
They helped me with my rat until the very end. The vets here showed true compassion and sent me a heartwarming card after I put my baby rat to sleep.
They were great with both of my hens, knew what they were talking about, and very kind with my feathered kids.
Dr. Rich is awesome! He is very quirky and kind. He took care of our first rabbit, so we sought him out post-Katrina for our newer little bunny. Staff is very friendly and helpful.
Best avian and exotic vet in the state. Very dedicated and offer emergency care as well
The only place to take your pet if you have a guinea pig. Dr. Pence is amazing and all the staff really care about the animals. I’ve boarded my pet here while on vacation and never had to worry if she was in good hands. I come back knowing she’s been well taken care of and loved.
Great wonderful people!
Best vet care I have ever received. Dr. Rich is the best!
We took our ferret, Azriel, to Dr. Rich today (it's sunday). He was more than happy to come in on his day off and help us. His wife, Renee, came with him to help out also. They are the sweetest, most knowledgeable, and kindest people ever!!! Our little boy was having trouble going to the bathroom and we weren't sure why. Dr. Rich instantly took him back for an x-ray while his wife sat with us and chatted about how awesome our ferret is. Turns out Azriel had a bladder stone. Dr. Rich was going to schedual a surgery for later in the week but after trying to flush the stone back into his bladder he realized it was more serious. He told us he was going to do the surgery tonight and take him to his home afterwards to observe him. I never thought a vet would take an animal to their personal home to make sure he was ok. We had the best experience and we know we can trust him for any other needs we may have regarding our ferrets. I can't get over how kind and concerned they both were about the well being of our little furry friend. I would reccomend Dr. Rich to anyone with a small animal or bird. He is the BEST!!!
They are the greatest
The whole staff is kind, compassionate. caring and extremely knowledgeable. I rescued a leopard gecko in bad shape and they are helping me get him back to health and i now have hope that he will be ok. They are awesome
Dr. Rich and his staff are wonderful and take good care of my two rabbits. He is very knowledgeable in rabbit health and other exotics.
This practice has an amazing attentive diligent staff, and the doctors are phenomenal, the experience speaks for itself.
Good vet
They are the best at what they do. Dr. Rich and Dr. Pence and his staff have taken care all of my birds since 1995.
Been going here for years for my 2 African Grey Congos. They do an excellent job of taking care of my two babies.
Dr. Rich is the absolute best vet.
They've done a fine job trying to help Lucy she was one of my oldest Rhode island chicken.
Good people who take good care of my pets.
Lovely and caring staff, you can tell that they care about the health of your pets.
Great Doctors and staff.
very warm and eager to get to know the furbaby
This is one of the best exotic vets in the entire southern US, and they always do right by boarding and caring for my chinchillas!
Great knowledge!
They provide a wonderful service by taking in injured wild birds.
Exotic
Love Dr. Rich. He and his staff truly care about birds and other exotics.
Always nice staff. Our rabbit well cared for when we board him
I take my 2 macaws and my amazon to Dr Rich and have for the past 3 years. He is amazing my macaws were rescues and we worked together to make sure that they were healthy and turn them around. He is so great with my fids and would recommend him to anyone and he is also known all the way to PA where I got one of my rescues. The staff is friendly, helpful, and always so kind and you can tell they love what they do.
Dr. Rich is the only vet I've ever taken my pet to. He is highly recommended for exotic pets, especially bunnies. Very inviting staff. They even have a dog that hangs out in the office and delivers paper work to the front desk. Bunnies are always in the waiting room to entertain you while you wait. The only thing I didn't like was the parking...it's on a busy service road, but you can always just park around the corner on the less busy side. I recommend dr. Rich to anyone with a pet bunny for sure.
