This past Saturday 7/28/16, NRAH helped me again at the last minute. I was rescuing a 9 month old pup and he needed to receive tests to confirm his health. As always the staff was very polite and helpful, even though I had cause them to stay late from leaving. Thank You, Dr. Riney & Staff for helping me. Let's hope Buddy finds a forever home soon. Simply put, it could not have been a better first experience for my pet.. As soon as I walked in the technician at the desk took moose who was visibly a little nervous about being in a new place. He took right to her and while I was initially reluctant he seemed very comfortable. Moose wasn’t given back to me until we went back to the office. He stayed and got attention from all the techs who obviously absolutely adore animals. The Vet herself was terrific and the techs were all fantastic. The vet spent plenty of time evaluating moose and talking with me about his health, growth, and neutering. At the close of our visit the office manager came in and gave even more attention to Moose and spoke with me as well. I’ve had dogs before that the vet was a traumatizing experience but because of the behavior of your staff Moose’s first experience was very positive and he left happy. Thank you all for that! We will be choosing this clinic for all of our future pet needs.

Great and talented staff. I've had two dogs over 15 years and still going there. They remember their names and truely love them. My first dog (a chihuahua) seemed to have a lot of issues. They performed some pretty incredible tedious surgeries to keep him well. I was amazed at the service, outcomes, and true caring of everyone there. You simply can't go wrong. I recently moved to the Lexington area. I have 2 cats that are 11 years old. Before moving here, we had the same vet for over 9 years. So needless to say I was a bit tentative on the next animal hospital I would choose. Fortunately we had a friend recommend Nicholasville Road Animal Hospital to us. I took my 2 Boys in for their annual, and I was very impressed. The care in handling and making sure my cats were as comfortable as possible was fantastic. The information Dr. Riggs gave me was very informative and easy to understand. The staff I interacted with made me feel very at home, and I believe I found our new doctor for my cats. Thanks to the entire crew I saw today. I feel very comfortable and happy to be a client there.

Dr. Riney is my dog's vet. He loves dogs. My oldest dog had to be put down. Dr. Riney was very compassionate in the way he handled the situation, he even sent me a sympathy card. I couldn't ask for a better vet. My dog loves him and showers him with kisses when she sees him and he talks to her and pets her. He is the only vet she will let touch her. I highly recommend him.

Staff is great and everything is done to make visit as least traumatic on tom as is possible. Been coming here for years with my cat. Left for one year to closer vet. I love everyone that works in this establishment. They are always so friendly and you can tell how much they care for the animals. The veterinarians are also very great with my dogs. One of them is pretty scared when we go and we have to muzzle her but they do try to talk to her and pet her in a calming way to try to help her relax. I would recommend them to anyone!

I have had my cat Chip a patient there since I had to put my little girl cat Jingles down in December 2013. They have always taken good care of him. Unfortunately, I had to have him put to sleep on August 21, 2015. The staff and doctor were wonderful. They gave me time with him, tried to do all they could and even cried with me. It was the hardest thing I have done because this was my best friend. However, if I had to be somewhere with him at that time Nicholasville Road Animal Hospital was a good place. Have been a client with Nicholasville Road Animal Hospital for five years now. Wouldn't consider trusting anyone else to care for our beloved pets. Drs. Schlick, Reinhardt, and Riggs are all excellent, compassionate health care providers. Have three dogs, all rescues, and have been nothing but thrilled with every member of the staff. Reminder emails/phone calls for upcoming vaccinations are the norm, and can always rely on them to dispense prescription flea/heartworm treatment at as good a price as you'll get anywhere. Re: the review referencing the seizure medication, I am a pharmacist. If this medication is a DEA controlled substance, the clinic is required by law to do its diligence in this regard (blood work, etc). Will be the same everywhere else. I have utilized several local vet clinics over the years, and I will go to bat for these guys any day of the week, they have been far and away the best. Can't possibly recommend them any more readily.

Overall, we have always had a positive experience with the folks at Nicholasville Road Animal Hospital. They are a group that always works hard to make things right for their customers. Once we had to wait for an hour for our appointment due to a high volume of emergencies that happened to come into the office. They were super apologetic (even though they were doing the right thing by prioritizing the cases) and provided us with a 20% discount. I'm really grateful for a vet who takes care of all of their patients and makes sure everyone is taken care of and satisfied.

We first went to Nicholasville Road Animal Hospital 4 years ago after we had a bad experience at Chevy Chase, and we could not be happier. We have lived in many places, including much bigger cities and much smaller cities, and Dr. Riney and his staff are by far the best people we’ve had taking care of our white German shepherd. We actually have to move back to Cincinnati but plan on making the drive back to Lexington to continue his care with Dr. Riney because we trust him 100% and have been just that impressed! You and your fur child(ren) will be treated like family here. Dr. Riney’s medical knowledge is amazingly vast and we have always felt like he has had our dog’s best interests in mind. Office staff are caring and responsive and are always quick to help. Prices are more than reasonable and we’ve always felt like our buddy comes before their bottom line (which is not the case with many other places, sadly). They have been nothing but wonderful to my pets and myself. They cared for my aging Blue Heeler and, when the time came, Dr. Reinhardt and assistant Wes sent him gently on his way; their kindness to old Jasper and to me will never be forgotten. I now take my roustabout terrier mixes to NRAH and they are made to feel welcome and comfortable. This is the most compassionate clinic staff I have ever encountered! I have seen all three veterinarians here in both routine and emergency situations and have always left completely satisfied. Everyone in the office is helpful and friendly from the moment you walk through the doors. My fosters as well as my personal pets are all treated here. My one dog in particular previously hated going to the vet, however he no longer has any anxiety when walking into Nicholasville Road Animal Hospital. That alone is worth it to me. While I am confident and happy to see anyone at the clinic, I cannot speak highly enough of Dr Riney and Dr Whitehouse. I had a very sick rabbit and they graciously opened their clinic after hours to meet me for an emergency euthanasia. As someone who cares deeply for all of their pets, I am forever grateful for the sincere compassion provided during such a heartbreaking time.

Got a new dog with some behavioral issues (so naturally we have a million question per appointment) and they always work so well with him and us. We always feel better by the end of the appointment about what we're doing. Everyone is so friendly and always giving you cards with their contact information. We've been taking our dogs to NRAH for 25+ years. First Buckwheat, a rescue dog, who lived to be 14. The staff was so caring when, after about 10 years as "patients" there, I had to bring her over, with end-stage kidney failure, to be put down during the day while everyone else in the family was at school and work. NRAH sent us a condolence card - no bill. Then Ginger, our beagle with no papers, bought from a lady in Jessamine county. Ginger, too,had to be put to sleep at age 14. My son called me out of town to say Ginger, who had lymphoma, was howling in pain. I had him take Ginger to NRAH and give them my cell phone number to call, while he went on to class at UK. After examining Ginger, Dr Schlich called me while I was at the airport in Covington waiting for my final flight to Lex. With his assistance, I made the decision to have Ginger put to sleep from there in the airport. I felt it was best for her, though very hard to do. Dr Schlich was so sympathetic but reassuring that he, too, thought it was the best thing to do. Again, a sympathy card to us; no bill. Now, we have another rescue dog, our dear, affectionate Freckles. I would not want to take her or any pet any place but to NRAH. Always, through the years, professional, caring vets and staff. Every time I take my dog in, the staff is always so friendly, they talk to my dog and pet my dog and act like she is "so special". They are VERY helpful and friendly over the phone too. My first dog would whine and cry when we pulled into their driveway and she would run to the door because she was so excited to be there! My second dog is afraid of everything but once she gets in the door and they start lovin on her, she is happy to be there. The doctors answer all your questions and take their time with your pet, I have always been satisfied after each appointment. I have 3 friends who take their pets here, and one friend uses the kennel and her dog LOVES coming to the kennel. The staff lets him roam around by them and he is in heaven! This group has given excellent, consistent, and thorough care to my pets (eight of them over the years) and I would not trust my pets' care to any other group. They treat me like a friend and sometimes like family! My dog never fears coming here; in fact, she seems to think it is quite the social event. Everything was perfect!! Karen’s nasty wound doesn’t stink anymore!! I thought it was cancer (we treated for abscess) & the vet was amazing!! Prices are reasonable ($137.50 for vet visit, antibx & steroid injections & nail trim). Texted via the app on Thurs nite to get a Saturday appt. got in at 830a. Hardly a wait! Everyone is so nice & they love my Himalayan (Karen). I would 100% recommend!! Love the Pet Desk app for scheduling & questions. They always follow up post-visit. Can’t say enough great things. They fully understand that we’re not about extreme treatments for a senior kitty & never pressure me to do procedures. Love y’all!!

I recently adopted my first dog 5 months ago and chose this animal hospital in order to get him his basic shots including a rabies shot. The first time that I went to get his first round of shots a couple of weeks ago, they were friendly and seemed at the best interest of the dog. They told me to come back in a few weeks for a second round and so I called to make an appointment a few weeks later. When I called, I was put on hold for 3 minutes and then hung up on and when I called back an hour later, they put me on hold again. I finally got an appointment set for later that afternoon and when I brought him in, everything was chaotic. I was asked to be seen in the surgery room because all of the other rooms were full which was not a big issue at the time until other chaotic things happened. An employee even stuck her head in the door and apologized for how chaotic things were going which I appreciated but then things got worse. The doctor came in to give shots to my dog and when finished, he handed me a rabies tag for him. I asked why he was getting another rabies tag if he got one last time we came in and questioned if it was just an updated one. He kind of hesitated, realizing his mistake and then said "yes, it is very much so updated" and shook my hand and sent me on my way. So not only did the doctor realize at the time that he made a mistake with the vaccination, he also did not own up to the fact that he had messed up and offer a refund and healthy wishes for my puppy. When I was leaving, a staff member lead me straight out of the door without being checked out and paying for the visit and I had to correct her. I realized after I had left that the doctor actually did not understand that my dog had gotten a rabies shot a few weeks prior even though he had a rabies tag on his collar clear as day. My dog had gotten TWO rabies shots within a month. I called back to let them know of their mistake and they claimed that it would not hurt my 5 month old puppy. They offered to refund me the money but in order for me to get my money back (or to have it credited as store credit which is absolutely not happening), I have to come back in the store to have it refunded. When I looked online, I read that it is DEFINITELY possible for a puppy to get sick from this type of thing. I am not bringing my puppy back to this clinic again!

The doctors and staff at Nicholasville Road Animal Hospital are compassionate and render excellent professional care at a reasonable cost. Our dogs (and even a hamster at one time) have been patients of theirs for years, and each critter has been treated with the utmost respect and loving care. They have intelligently answered our questions about everything from diet to emergency treatment when one of our dogs, Piper, severely fractured her leg. They kept Piper comfortable and splinted her leg and advised us on where to seek excellent orthopedic surgical treatment at an affordable price. Piper is now almost 12 years old and still running around happily!

I used to take my dog there all the time, great staff good service friendly. One day I took my dog there for what it looked like an UTI but after multiple visits she wasn't getting better. I took her to another vet and found out that it was something more serious she was put on a special diet and medication and in a few days she was fine.

My terrier was a little monster last time and snapped at him. He handled that very well. This vet office is also well priced, and you check out in the room. I've been blown away with the level of care we've received. We stopped in one afternoon prior to getting our puppy to get more information on pricing, and Melanie went above and beyond by printing out detailed pricing estimates for each of Josie's first several appointments so that we knew exactly how much to plan on for each visit. The time she spent putting that together really "wowed" me and my fiance Even though NRAH was the first vet office we looked into, we knew when we left that our search was over. Fast forward to a few short days after we got Josie--prior to her first scheduled appointment, I found what appeared to be a worm in her stool--but as a first time dog owner, I wasn't sure. I called NRAH, Melanie had me email her a picture, and she responded promptly to confirm it was a worm so I knew to stop by and pick up the medication. At our first appointment, Dr Tom Riney was wonderful! He was thorough, kind, and happy to answer all of our questions. He gave us his business card and told us to email him if we had any questions at all--even on the weekend. I emailed him a question today, and he quickly responded with a very long, though-out response. I have been absolutely amazed with the time and attention that each of their staff members have given us. We don't feel like just another "patient". I am very thankful we found them. Josie and I look forward to her next appointment! :)
