Unfortunately I had to hear the I told you so after my experience yesterday. I called twice to set up an appointment and both times I was quoted something differently(not a big deal) I was prepared for the up-charge that was quoted to me TWICE over the phone and at the office. However upon check out I was told a different amount. Service was ok until I requested an itemized statement for services. At that moment the nurse that went over the discharge paper work became very rude and unprofessional. She even said that I was wrong and no one would ever quote me anything over the phone. Not only was she rude with me she was also rude towards the people that worked behind the front desk. You could definitely tell by their body language that they were uneasy with her tone and manner. It's unfortunate that I had to have this experience considering I was already told by 2 different people not to go there. However I was pleased with DVM Cheever and would love to follow up with her in 3-4 week, but I will be seeking services elsewhere because of that one rotten apple! Not to mention the turn off by the dog feces along the side walk when you first walk-in and the pee stain on the lobby floor by the front door. I was already slightly annoyed at the fact that I was there almost an hour before I was officially checked in or acknowledged for additional paper work. What's the point of setting an appointment? I was willing to look past the little stuff, after all it is an animal hospital but due to poor customer service I have no interest in returning. My dog was handled by multiple staff members that were friendly but the last one was enough for me to take my money elsewhere.

Last week our 11 year old female Jack Russell Terrier became very ill overnight. She was feeling a little “off” before bed so we planned on taking her to our vet in the morning. She woke up with tachycardia and other symptoms so I took her to Jefferson Animal Clinic at 0230am in hopes they would be able to stabilize her and figure out what was happening. She had been healthy up until maybe a few days before this situation. The receptionist and vet were very kind and explained everything as it was occurring. After exam and blood work they told us she had kidney failure and we had to get fluids in her right away if she was going to have a chance. About 2.5 hours later she had been stabilized and was hooked up to an IV and being well taken care of in the kennel area. I went home to get rest and go to work. The vet promised to call if there were any changes. I called in the morning and she was still resting. Even though we've all tried to figure out what happened, including my regular vet working with the emergency vet, we don't know what caused the kidney failure (final diagnosis was chronic renal failure). This is actually a fairly common experience for vets, just not for pet guardians so it's pretty scary. On the communication side, we called numerous times per day and visited each day she was in the hospital. We were always welcomed and a staff member would spend as much time as necessary explaining what was happening and why. The hospital encourages visiting with your pet and made a room available for us each time. I was very impressed with this. Even when I was upset or repeating myself due to being upset they were very patient and compassionate. The emergency vet kept our regular vet updated via fax through the week. On Thursday mid-morning, we checked Julia out and took her home for additional home care. The staff also trained us on providing fluids subcutaneously. This allowed us to have her home with us while she continues to get better without draining our resources. Almost a week later, we have a dog that is stable, on special diet and medications and we hope to have her around a lot longer. Jefferson Animal Hospital saved our beloved Julia and we are very grateful. A lot of reviewers have mentioned costs. I know this is the worst time to have to worry about costs, I believe the best way to address is to discuss your budget with the vet and staff. Ensure they know what your “end point” is so they can advise you properly. For instance, we were able to save some money by taking her home (after a few days) and doing fluids ourselves. It’s important to note that if you spend all your savings in the ER you won’t have money for aftercare and pretty much all cases will need aftercare. As long as you are planning on taking your pet back to your vet, this can be a good compromise. Every case is different of course. We worked our schedules out so she had 24/7 care with us and while not as ideal as being in the vet office, you have to balance care with cost of care. Our bill was high but not more than we were told to expect. For emergency care, this wasn't a huge surprise. Checking around on other reviews for other hospitals, our bill was certainly within the average.

I brought my cat into the office due to a loss of appetite and a lack of energy. All of the medical assistants and the doctor did a great job making myself and my cat feel comfortable while waiting to be seen by the doctor or waiting for test results respectively (offering water, complimenting his demeanor/appearance , etc.) We discovered that my cat had a form of anemia that would potentially require many treatments that I was not financially able to perform, nor could potentially improve my cat's quality of life. I informed the doctor and any staff that questioned my visit, that I would be euthanizing my friend. That being said, the receptionist at the check out window, after being told the results of my cat's visit, took it upon herself to make jokes to me, "I have a cat you can have...". I have never been so frustrated by an individual in all my life. Extremely unprofessional behavior and not the type of response you would expect to receive given the emotional state of someone in that situation.

I will never take my dog back here again. He was misdiagnosed by a new veterinarian who dismissed every symptom of his that I brought to her attention. Half of the symptoms she told me she had "never seen before." She never even did a full exam or blood work, she went straight to the x-rays which she said were all "clear." Well, I took those x-rays somewhere else where they did a full exam and blood work, I explained my dog's symptoms, and was told he had meningitis! Jefferson Animal Hospital told me it was either kennel cough or pneumonia, she couldn't say and just prescribed him Amoxicillin and sent us home. His health declined even more and I took him back to Jefferson, only to get the same inexperienced vet who simply switched his medication without examining him or anything. My dog lost almost 5lbs within the two visits at Jefferson Animal Hospital (which was four days) and she told me she "wouldn't worry about it." I am so glad for his third visit I went somewhere else. He had to be hospitalized for two nights and is on five mediciations, including steroids that he'll have to take for the next 2+ months. I absolutely do NOT recommend Jefferson to anyone. But if it's an absolute last resort, make sure your vet is not Summer Dorn. She is too inexperienced to be working alone.

This place doesn’t even deserve 1 star. My dog almost died in 2017 because a vet said he ate something that made his “stomach unhappy”. My dog had not eaten or drank for almost 48 hours and was unable to have a bowel movement. This said vet told me my dog don’t need any x-rays (it would be a waste of my money) or any further testing and sent us home with a medication to make him have an appetite. I took him home for about 3 hours he was acting worse and his gums were a grayish white color. We took him straight to Blue Pearl and they did x-rays immediately to find a piece of a toy the size of a golf ball lodged in his small intestine. If it wasn’t for Blue Pearl and Dixie Animal Hospital my dog would not be here today. I do NOT recommend this place whatsoever!!!!

Worst animal service ever. My dog puking and pooping blood and been here almost two hours and still waiting.

I took my 16 year old dog. To this hospital. At 4am because my dog had a seizure for the first time ever.. When we arrived it took them like 5 min to answer the door. Yes he is old and if were lucky we will get to see him for some time to come. . Well when the Doctor seen my dog. The first thing they talked about was his quality of life. The Doctor said he had a brain tumor and asked us if we thought about it and we said yes. At that time the Doctor replied to us ok I will get the IV started and began to walk back in the roo. With my dog in hand. We told the doctor to hold on. We were not at this point ready. We left about an hour later. As we had that talk with our family we all decide to go a head and do it.. I then said wait I want a second opinion. I called His regular vet and his doctor requested the dogs medical records. And called me back. Now my doctor seen him 3 days earlier. And perscribed medication. My Vet said he looked over he records and his was pretty sure he didn't have a brain tumor and ask me to let the meds work before we decided. Moral of the story is the Jefferson animal clinic wanted to put him down and his Vet was right the medication is working and he is back to normal. Hopefully for a while if we would have listened to the Animal Hospital he would be here today.. I wont be going back.

Took my dog there to get treated, she's pregnant and her puppies are stuck. We drove 2HRS just so we could make sure our animal would get treated, BOY was I wrong! All they care about was the money, wouldn't do a DAMN thing to help her until we forked over the cash. Do they really care about animals/love their profession, No only the cash, if they really cared about animals they would've helped her on spot. 0/5 star rating

I took my dog in to to be checked and boy did I make a mistake, I had more knowledge than the so called vet that seen my dog. I am so disappointed about the lack of knowledge concern and care. If you value your pets life please do not bring them here. All they wanted to do was pump my dog full of things he didn't need. They couldn't diagnose properly

This place is nothing but a joke!!! All they care about is money, period!!! Took my baby there last night around midnight. He hadn’t acted right all day & as the night went on, he was worse. Rushed him to Jefferson Animal hospital, hoping for the best. He had 4 small (convulsing) seizures in the car on the way there. (He has a history of small seizures, but not convulsing ones). Once we got there, he started having a seizure. They sedated him & gave him seizure meds. The vet (Dr. Linda Sayre) came in to tell me what they had done & kept going on about prices. Prices to keep him overnight, prices for the meds & all that they had already given him. She was writing the prices down on a paper towel. She not ONCE asked what was wrong with him, or what had led up until this point. When I tried to explain that it wasn’t just from a seizure, she basically ignored me & told me yes it was. She left the room for me to “think about” what I wanted to do, as far as the price of letting him stay overnight, etc. (it was almost $1000 to have him stay overnight & I love my baby to death, however I do not have that kind of $). I asked if I could make payments, & was told NO, it had to be paid up front, before I ever even left. They brought him to me, still sedated & told me to take him home, & take him to his vet in the morning. I asked the vet, “is it normal for him to be like this right now?” Her response (with an attitude) "that's why we keep him in the hospital, because people go home & worry over everything, & they have a rough come out of this, so you're gonna have to harden your heart!" As if that wasn't enough already (since she knew I didn't have the $ to keep him overnight) she went out & came back in with discharge instructions. She then says to me "WHEN you get rich, get the teeth cleaned!" ARE YOU FREAKING KIDDING ME?!?! I'm extremely worried about my baby that I've had for 10 years (he would be 11 in October), & instead of focusing on his main issue, she's worried about his teeth!!!?? But not only comments on his teeth, has the nerve to say... "WHEN YOU GET RICH.. get the teeth cleaned." I brought my baby home, with instructions to give him pedialyte every 15mins once he woke up. & to follow up with our own vet. He slept on the couch with me from about 3am till 9am. Laid him down to go get dressed, came back & he was gone.

Only positive about this place is they are open 24 hours, other than that stay away! We took our dog there around 9pm on a Sunday because he was having some mobility issues in his hind legs; He's not very vocal normally, but he was whining so we knew something was wrong. We got into a room in about 20 min, however there was no sense of urgency in the staff at all. The vet who came in was rude and short with everything she said to us, it was obvious she didn't want to spend any time answering our questions. She condescendingly claimed our dog may have IVDD and a double ear infection that had been "there for quite a while." (Funny that our regular vet didn't mention the long-time ear infection when we had taken him for his check up at the end of September.) The late night visit alone was $95, understandable I suppose. My qualm is that they sent us home with over $150 worth of vitamins and muscle relaxers - and nothing to treat his "long time ear infection" - that our regular vet stated would not help ease his pain. This place does not care for the safety or health of your pet; This office is only out to take advantage of concerned pet parents and take their money. Avoid visiting here if at all possible.

Nice people and workers, but its not worth all the extreme and rediculous cost. It would cost about 1,000 to get my dog nuetered. The average is about 175 max

Refused to put down my aunt’s cat that was badly injured and said they’d let her take the cat home with a band aid on its deep wound, and let it get infected and suffer and die that way. To Hell with everyone at this clinic. Don’t open a Veterinary clinic if you have no compassion. Money hungry, shameful people.

To expensive cost more for my dog to get an exam than it does for me to see a specialist.

We took my 1-year old Boston Terrier mix into emergency services after he slipped out the door and got hit by a car. The staff was friendly, empathetic, and genuinely concerned about our concerns as well as Yadi's significant trauma. I am so thankful for Dr. Hamby! She was straight forward with us regarding his injuries and the upfront cost of ongoing treatment, but was still sensitive to the emotional nature of the situation. Unfortunately, due to the extensive nature of his injuries, we were referred to another specialist and based on cost and prognosis, ended up having to put him down. Would have much preferred to stay with Jefferson Animal Hospital to let them take care of it! The cost is a bit on the high end, but totally worth it for the service we received and the nature of emergency services being available 24/7! And, the cost was considerably cheaper than the specialist we were referred to.

NEVER TAKE YOUR PET TO THIS PLACE!!!! Took our cat in (crying in pain) to have her taken back to a room and be charged $450 before even looking at her. After waiting and asking what's going on we were told she was in a breathing room getting oxygen as she seems to be having trouble breathing!!!! Our cat didn't have breathing issues!!! The girl (not the vet) told us she was doing much better, as we could hear her crying in the background!!! I had had enough and ordered she be given to us since they weren't doing anything for her I opened the door and could see a women in white doctors coat and two other ladies in blue scrubs talking and laughing. The girl who gave us our cat told us to get her to our vet or another hospital asap! We took her to our vet and she was diagnosed with toxic poisoning!! They gave her medicine, but due to not being treated quickly she died!!!!!

Little boots is a chihuahua, he’s a little older than 8 years. Boots was attacked by TWO full grown dogs which looked to be German Shepard/pit bull mixed. He was hardly handing onto his life when he was rushed to the Jefferson animal hospital. Immediately put into a coma to save his life and put on life support for the vets to determine THE BEST way for recovery just for him. Everyone at the office has been OUTSTANDING with being patient, sweet and comforting. Different family members would call to check up on boots not knowing if he’d make it or not. NOT ONCE did anyone seem aggravated, instead we got an update and was even told “call back whenever you need to make sure we’re doing a good job” and that warmed my heart. Good people doing good things. Boots is fighting for his life. And in just a week he’s made and incredible difference with the help of the staff here with being 24 hours always ready to help him. 10/10 recommend, thank you so much for saving little boots

Very happy with the care received here. Dr. Gruber was excellent with care and consideration for the level of pain our pup was in. Felt the diagnosis was accurate as well. We had already been to our regular vet several times and the treatment was no where near as aggressive or appropriate for the level of pain our chihuahua was obviously in. We appreciated the kindness of the receptionists and techs as well. It was a very good experience overall.

Brought in my medium size dog two days in row. Both Days the staff was excellent, exceptional and so friendly. The Doctors came in and explained everything that was happening. They let me ask questions without making me feel Like I was bothering them. I highly recommend! I would come back any and every time. Thanks you guys!

I feel the need to comment on your communications director only replying to the positive comments with kindness. She ignores the negative feedback or insults and demeans those that are dissatisfied with the service. You are in the medical field. Your manners are as poor as Dr. Isherwood. The animals the people bring to you are family. We are in pain and you just care about getting paid.

Excellence in all, staffing, care, knowledge & rapport !! Family had to take my pug in while I was at work. Her condition was very serious. I got out of work at 2am. & went to see her unannounced. They immediately seated me in the "Visitation Room", then carried her in and placed her next to me on the couch. Gave me a full diagnosis & prognosis. No questions asked. The visit was 1.5 hrs. at 2am.

They took excellent care of not only our dog, but with us. It was 12 at night and we were placed in a nice room. Sarah E.A. mentioned water being in the mini fridge if we needed something. She was so sweet with him whenever she took him to the back. She gave us pee pads for our dog Rascal, a leash when we didn't have time to grab our own, and even diapers for the time at home with him. I have called with a few questions on his meds and they gave me the answers. Our doctor was helpful telling us what our options were and how much things would cost. She was not worried about making money, she wanted us to do what we could. When we decided to go with home care, we were told what the meds to, we were provided with times to give the meds, and what they did and how much. The labels on the bottles said the times along with a paper. Again, just super helpful. If you ever need emergency care, I highly recommend them. Not only did our dog get better, but they worked with us. We spent around $300 and $116 was the majority of the cost to just get him in and seen without an appointment. The rest were meds and a test we wanted done. I would do it all over again.

Horrible place, the vet today told someone that took their puppy up there today because the baby was having seizures (7 today then one while there) that it wouldn't do any good to help the pup it probably won't live and told her to put the dog down. Their one and only job is to help animals and keep them alive no matter what, in this case no tests were ran, glucose wasnt taken, there was no reason given as to the seizures and the vet didnt care at all about doing her job. So never take your animals here, they dont care and will recommend to put them to sleep instead of helping!!

My 12 week old German Anatolian shepherd was exposed to Parvovirus last week and started showing symptoms this past Tuesday evening around 5pm. We arrived to Jefferson hospital at 10pm and were taken straight back to a room. They came right in, got vitals, took samples for testing, and within minutes let me know he was in fact parvo positive but also had Coccidiosis. They quickly admitted him for an overnight stay and suggested transferring him to our normal vet on Wednesday after their initial care, because it would be cheaper. If they only cared about money, I don't think they would willingly volunteer that information... The staff was amazing with both my puppy and my ugly crying self. Worth the hour drive and every penny spent. Thank you ladies, and everyone else, for helping our Ranger <3

This place is a joke! All they care about is money...period!! Had the vet stand there and explain to us a whole list of things as to why they needed a 1000 dollar deposit. Medical equipment, medical supplies and 24 hour care staff. Not about my babies treatment. Yet they let my baby DIE!! He had fluid building up in his lungs!! He was struggling to breath and they did nothing absolutely nothing. This place should burn in hell...ZERO STARS!

Richard Spatz

Got us right in and the cost is more reasonable than shively animal clinic. Theplace we used to go to.

Meghan Wood

They don’t care about your animals, all they care about is the money. I took my pregnant dog, who has been in labor, there because one of them got stuck, so only one pup was delivered while the rest were stuck inside her! I know pups have sacs around them in the wound and if they burst inside she could get sick and it could possibly kill her. If they were true Vet Techs, Veterinarians, they would treat the animal as there own, but all they cared about was $$$$$$$ if you have a true animal emergency and don’t have cash at the moment, don’t bother going there. If I could rate 0 stars, I would.

The people who work here are very friendly. They are very sweet to my dog, peanut. They help me with all shots that are needed take time to explain what each shot is for. I would recommend them to anyone who needs the proper care for your pet.I use them as my regular vet. Not just emergencys.

I had to Euthanize my 16 year old cat, on Easter Sunday. It was heart wrenching. I took him to Jefferson Animal Hospital. That was the best part of a terrible situation. First, it's a pretty place. I was crying and the young lady at the front desk, reassured me. She put me in a nice room and told me to spend as much time as I needed to say goodbye. When I was ready, the Doctor came in to discuss everything. She gently explained the procedure and told me she had a cat with the same issue and had to make the hard decision herself. I wouldn't hesitate to bring an animal here, for any reason. Thank you for making this a little easier. Dr. Moliere, Thank you.

Deb Copeland

Needed vaccinations for my son's dog, evening was the only time to do it. I called and was told sure, and while they were slow at that time, it could be busy by the time we arrived. It was. But I didn't mind the wait. There were sick and injured dogs there. Beautiful facility-looks nicer than my doc's office! and even better-no animal smell or disinfectant smell, unlike the typical vet's office. Staff friendly and professional, tech and vet discussed recommended tests and vaccines. It cost no more than if we had gone to a vet during regular office hours, but I wouldn't squawk if a little higher for the convenience. Office followed up by email. Very happy and highly recommend when needed.

Great place to take a sick or hurt pet. Open 24 hours a day. The staff are terrific and caring. They are a little on the high side with what they charge.

Exceptional care! Had my wonderful Tango there three times in three months. I stopped taking him to his regular vet as I just didn't get the same feeling of competence from her that I did from the vets at JAH. The vets who treated Tango left no stone unturned, answered every question and spent a lot of time trying to figure out exactly what was causing his issues. In the end, nothing stops the progression of time in an elderly dog. I will be bringing my cats here from now on as I have so much more faith in JAH than I ever felt at my old vet clinic. I am so glad I found them and they are right around the corner from us. EDITED REVIEW- This place is worth it even for just regular vaccines. We're moving in days and I found out my cats were due for shots three weeks ago, not next month like I thought. Our hotel and new apartment require up-to-date vaccination records so I needed to get them done. Combine that with the fact that I generally work very long hours and it's not easy to find a vet with really late hours. Well, JAH does! I called at 6pm and got a 7:30pm appt that night as I got off early when our computers went down. Both cats got vaccines, blood work, fecals, and ear swabs and it was $300 less than I paid my last vet a year ago! It also took less time and I only waited about five minutes once I came in. While my cats are fine around dogs, I think it's a great idea that they have "cat only" rooms. I hope I can find a similar group of vets down in NC like they have at JAH.

My 7 yr old Labrador was severely injured by another dog Friday night. After Shively Animal Hospital turned her away regardless of her extensive injuries, Jefferson Animal Hospital saved the day! In a situation that ended up being WORSE than initially thought, they worked to surgically repair the damage into the wee hours of the morning and provided me updates every step of the way. Dr Sayre, Jerusha Wiggins and a young girl whose name I didn't catch on my visit were absolute angels and I am so thankful for the love and attention you showed my Roxy. Thank you again for your efforts, my family truly appreciates them

Devin James

It was terrible we went there because our puppy was having pain in his front legs. when we got there they started testing for intestinal problems, took x-rays of his stomach and nothing was wrong in that area of course and they then said they didn't know what was wrong, but they also tried to get us to buy him a shot for vomiting and he had not vomited at all. They are only out to take your money and don't even help your pet in the process. I will never return there even if it is an emergency.

Took my 6 month old puppy there and they did 3 test. Parvo came up postive but they wanted to charge 1,000 a night to treat him . He died 3 days later . I will never return there . Very nice people and if yu need needles for a pets fluids they charge .65 cents per needle & $50 for 2 bags of fluids. Unless yur rich do not go here . It cost me $344 for 3 test, 6 needles and 2 bags of fluids.

I called to see what the best medicine for tapeworm is. The employee that answered was very rude and said we have to see your dog first. I can't give you that information over the counter. For one I live in indiana. I'm not paying for a emergency visit or drive 40 minutes out for you just to tell me a over the counter medication. I know what tapeworm looks like I was at a pet store and needed to know what the best one was.

Brought in our kitten to be euthanized, she hadnt eaten in 4 to 5 days, was refusing water as well, she was weak and could barely move. We KNEW she had a serious upper respiratory infection and it was impossible for us to pay for it. They refused to euthanize her despite her feet being cold and her gums being white (what happens right before they die.) She passed, suffering, within a few hours of leaving their damn "hospital". We have taken stray kittens that were in the same condition that weve found in for a mercy killing, and they took them in no questions asked. So i guess theyre chill with euthanizing strays but the second "pet" comes up they wanna charge you buckets for pointless medicines that wont help. Go to shively animal hospital. Theyll tell you straight up and give you the option of euthanizing if you and they know the animal will pass.

Brought in my medium size dog two days in row. Both Days the staff was excellent, exceptional and so friendly. The Doctors came in and explained everything that was happening. They let me ask questions without making me feel Like I was bothering them. I highly recommend! I would come back any and every time. Thanks you guys!

If it weren't for costs which I think are a little high, I'd score Jefferson Animal Hospital 5 stars. I took my dog here because my regular vet was closed. She had picked a fight with our other dog and suffered injuries including getting two of her teeth knocked out. Dr. Cheever saw me the first day, and I felt like she really listened to me, including giving advice on the underlying behavioral issues. My dog had dental surgery the next day and Dr. Corbett, who performed the surgery, made a point to come out and speak to me between procedures to give me a full run down of what happened and post care. I was comforted and impressed with the competence and professionalism I experienced at Jefferson Animal Hospital.

Although they were wonderful in an emergency situation. Not so much on the "everyday" need of your dog. I have spent ALOT of money with them and I had decided to make them our home vet. However, when I called about getting my dogs nails trimmed and the price to the Outerloop location she wanted to ask me a bunch of questions, explaining to me that there were several factors if or how much it would be to trim my dogs nails!!!??? Not understanding, I was frustrated and called their Fern Creek location were I was informed they would not see her unless she was a patient already and would not trim her nail until she needed to be seen for something else too. This is Very concerning to me that they are just about the MONEY not the animal!!! Therefore unfortunately unless it is a "true" emergency" and they are the closest available hospital MY Fur baby will NEVER be back!!!

I took my small 6 year old dog to them less than 2 weeks ago as they were close to our home and our regular vet did not have an opening. She was acting listless & not eating. Dr. Figuero was the vet that saw us. The visit was $99. Please know this is not about their fees or about the money. We got our girl at 6 weeks old and she is a member of our family. She was seen by Dr Davis, regularly. Dr Figuero said she had an infection in her uterus and gave me some antibiotics to give her. If she does not improve bring her back in a week and we will do an ultrasound- but based on the complete blood work up this is what she recommended. The blood work was over $200 and the meds were another $100+. So I paid them almost $500. So we go home and in less than a few hours she is not better and her eye is odd. So I go back at 11 pm and see Dr Dorn. She was very kind, said she probably scratched her eye. Now our Baby girl, was walking and seemed more alert. She gave us a salve for the eye and I pay them another $100. So for the next few days we give the antibiotics, oh I also bought some of their dog food as she was throwing up her food now. We also gave her pedialyte as that is what Dr Dorn recommended. She started throwing that up. So a few days later, she still is not eating we take her back up to Jefferson Animal Hospital and see Dr Isherwood, who was there. He stated she needed surgery to have a hysterectomy right away & he said that would cost $1800. So Dr Cheever does the hysterectomy at 2 pm. BUT they said the infection had spread and it was in her belly; she was in recovery and doing better. They needed to keep her overnight, perhaps 2 days. We could come visit. The cost was $500 per night (you would think that would be part of the surgery). We went to visit and the tech (Aidan) said she was on the mend, he brought her in to see us. She was a little tired but did give us kisses and ate some chicken from my hand and drank some water. She seemed to be doing better, and no fever. Said we could take her home the next day. We were happy. The next day we came to get her and spoke with Dr Isherwood, he said she was doing better and that she could go home. Watch the area where the stitches were. Within 30 minutes of getting her home, she seem to have some sort of seizure. She yelped and whined out loud. My husband held her and kept an eye on her. Dr Isherwood nor Dr Cheever did not say there would be any side effects from the surgery (they did not say anything about side effects BEFORE or AFTER this surgery was done). They should have told us what the odds were of her surviving and what we should be aware of. A little later the same day she had another seizure. We called the office immediately and spoke with the receptionist - she wanted to charge us another $99 to come up asap to see the vet. By this time we are upset and outraged at the coldness of this office and THE GREED. BUT we went up there as we love our baby girl. Paid them again. Dr Isherwood, was very cold and said this happened while she was in OUR CARE. Now as far as we know, this may have happened there - we were not there and do not know. They did not say anything about seizures. She had never had them before - she is only 6 years old. This happened after their surgery. Also, we were assured the surgery went well - but in hindsight - she is only 5 lbs, did they make a mistake?? Did they injure one of her organs. WE don't know. They tried to blame us when we had only had her back 30 minutes. We went to get a 2nd opinion at Metro Veterinary Specialist. So one week later we spent $3500 at Jefferson Animal Hospital and our baby girl was 10 times worse. We went to Metro and upon their examination - they said she had less than a 25% chance of survival. We would need to spend another $5000 and do an MRI to find out what happened exactly. We had to put her to sleep. We are devastated and questioning the care at Jefferson. Dr Isherwood laughed at us! We were sobbing about our baby.

I was in the area for work and brought my 3 month kitten along. He had a prior mouth injury and it seemed infected, so I made the decision to seek professional care. Once I arrived, I did wait for a bit, but understandable as more critically injured animals were taken care of the moment they walked in. The staff was friendly and the cost was extremely reasonable being a 24-hour emergency vet. I highly recommend them and if relocated to the area in the future, I will make them my primary vet.

Danielle Royalty

We can't Thank you all enough for your wonderful care you gave our little Sophie. We were refused care at a Local Elizabethtown vet office so we headed up to you all. From the moment we walked in the door the lady at the desk asked me what was going on , I told her the situation and she immediately grabbed her from me and rushed her back. Unfortunately our little Sophie was put to sleep due to multiple seizures her little body was not strong enough. Thank you again for loving and caring for our Sophie.

Excellent service

They treated Frankie like he was their own pet!

I am giving a one star review because I do not even know how good at bad the actual service is. You see when I called the appointment scheduler was so rude I just hung up found another vet and called back and canceled. I do not spend my money where people are rude out of the gate while I am scheduling my appointment.

Public thank you to Dr. Todd and the entire staff for all their efforts to save Sissy, one of our furry family members. She was gravely ill when we brought her in, and they were prompt, courteous, professional, compassionate and informative, the entire length of her stay. Sadly, we lost her, but Dr. Todd treated us as well, giving us the time, space and ability to grieve in private. Excellent facility.

What's professional about a veterinarian laughing out loud as you are one step outside of their side entrance leaving their business where you just spent over 3000.00 dollars hoping that you have done nothing but help your pet recover from emergency care? Whats professional about asking (the staff at front desk), to have the owner of this same animal hospital to contact you and 4 days go by without any call at all? This is my opinion of this business: save your money and go to another animal hospital. One that will explain in detail all the things that could happen once they have done surgery and seen what's going on inside your pet. Especially since it is your pet and your money and at the end you have to make decisions based on what was never talked about. The term (at home) and laughing out loud will now be in my head Dr. Ken Isherwood forever, you sir are a complete moron!! You don't deserve to have a job working with peoples loved pets! Mine is gone now! Shame on you....... ... 9 days have passed by and no response from the owner. I see one from 4 days ago, but of course that was a nice review. I guess mine isn't considered nice (however it is very truthful). After spending over 3,100.00 at this hospital to help my little female dog (Chloe), why did Dr. Ken insist I go see another animal hospital? Why did he not explain to me her options and my options? I had to spend another 240.00 just to get the truth from a competitor. Dr Ken Isherwood you are probably still LOLing, while all I've been able to do is cry because I miss my LIL CHLOE!. More time has elapsed and still no responses from the owner of this facility, please don't spend your money here. The owner has never responded to us about the loss of our precious little pet and I doubt she ever corrected the vet that she employees for his unprofessional manners towards our loss! Please take your animal (pet) somewhere else, anywhere else other than here! ....20 days later we finally received a response from Natalie, not the owners (Dr Patricia Kennedy Arrington and her husband). I was told my request to speak with the owners would never happen because of my hostile demeanor and several staff members had came to her with complaints towards me. Shocking to me, I met four people while making a big mistake doing business with this facility. Two (techs, that I thought were great for my precious pet, thank you both!) Can't recall their names so I apologize for that. Young woman who had some piercings and a young man who was with my pet in the evening. Natalie is only playing her C M A card. I called to try and converse with Natalie but was lied to and told she wasn't there that day, although I was sitting in their parking lot and saw her before I dailed the number. Today 03/25/19 I called again and spoke with a Debbie she said I could only contact Natalie and she refused to get me in contact with the owners and then she told me to go do another review and hung up on me. Who is managing this place? If I could I would continue daily to give this business no stars until the BBB and local news channel started questioning its staff. Dr Ken Isherwood, Natalie, and Debbie have your pulses checked because you three are heartless and very mismanaged.

We took our 9 year old cat to the hospital because he wasn't acting like himself and we were worried that something was wrong with him. He had recently had a blockage in his bladder and had to have surgery. The vet there was very nice. I never caught her name but she explained everything very well and was kind. When we found out something was wrong with his kidneys we had 2 options. Put him down or try to save him. The vet said she thought it would be best to put him down because he was very sluggish and not acting like himself. I felt like she really emphasized with us. We choose to put him down because we didn't want him to suffer. I'm sad he is gone but Jefferson Animal Hospital did a great job at taking care of Charlie and the vet there was wonderful. If one of our other cats get hurt I would certainly take them there.

Nobody wants to have to take their pet to the vet in an emergency, but we had to this weekend and the entire staff were very friendly and helpful. They took care of us and our pet. Even though it wasn't the best news, they kept us informed through the entire process. I can't say enough how much I appreciated them.

Charlotte Williams

This place is horrible....never will I go here again I advise all who love your animals go anywhere but her.....go to blue pearl they are high... but worth the care you receive and the compassion you get from the staff and doctors..

Christina Madison

I can't put zero stars? What???? So, we took our dog here because she was attacked by another dog. After waiting two hours (which was fine because she needed medical attention and we thought they were stiching her up) we get there, pay the $316 and all they did was clean her wounds and shaved her. She was even still bleeding when we picked her up. That was last Thursday. Today as I was cleaning her up a bit I noticed a part which wasn't shaved, yet the hole on her head was big enough for me to literally put a cotton swab in. It was infected and oozing. "She didn't need to be stitched up", they said. We called and voiced our concern and asked if they would do payment plans, hoping they would give us a little discount of sorts for literally missing something so huge, but all they take is Care Credit, they said. No payment plans or a discount. Also, her face is swollen up. I thought all she needed was a bath and shave? They only cared about getting paid. Called another vet, the lady was sweet. When we explained what happened however, she was livid. So we are going there. To professionals who know what they are doing.

John Duggan

They where nice enough to come out at 2 am to take care a friend's cat

My cat has never actually been a patient at Jefferson. Twice late on weekend nights (because of course, the medical issues/questions never come-up when her regular veterinarian's office is open) I have called them for advice and found their staff very helpful. Fortunately for my cat and I, neither of these situations required that I actually bring her in for an emergency appointment. They were helpful, happy to answer my questions, and I very much appreciate their honesty.

Mela Dee

More expensive than your typical vet, but when something arises on a Sunday when your own vet is closed, it is great to have this as an option. They were very friendly with my boy and answered all of my questions and offered a lot of treatment and analysis options and priced them all out before taking action. I recommend this place for when your regular vet is unavailable.

Kennedy Moon

I had brought my dog to their office. He clearly had all the symptoms of parvo. We brought him to them and clearly stated that he had not pooped, was not eating or drinking, and was puking thick yellow liquid that smelled awful. They gave me options and prices to do X-rays (assuming it was a blockage, but she felt comfortable it was not due to him not having any stomach soreness) or said they can send him home with antibiotics (assuming it was a bacterial infection). They gave us a discharge paper that clearly states we declined the labs and X-rays. We declined for the fact that we were told my the DOCTOR it was not necessary. We were more persuaded that our dog was fine and that we didn’t need to do any further action except give him antibiotics. They did not mention the possibility of parvo not one time and told us it was probably just a bacterial infection so we went home. Within the next 24 hours my dog was completely lethargic and had the life sucked out of him. I almost paid $300 just to get an incorrect diagnosis. I called around to MANY vets and just over the phone every single one asked if I had him parvo tested. This was coming from people who had not even physically seen my dog. Extremely disappointed in this business.

Kathy Travis

This is the BEST pet hospital in Louisville and possibly Kentucky. They never close and they really care about animals. I have mini doxies and all of them have been very sick at times-I have 3. They have stomach problems and had to have special food. They would have died had I not gotten them to this clinic and they even called to check on them.

David Covert

My dog had labor complications. My fiancé and I were out of options until we called Jefferson Animal Hospital. Dr. Sayre, Sara and Tia put the life of a member of our family first and provided first class surgery to give her a second chance at life. I’m glad there is a vet in town that cares for the animals they treat. No amount of debt could ever repay them.

Josh Bradshaw

I cant even express how happy i am with there service and not treating my 8 yr old pug and i like $$$ signs... not only did Dr Hobbs treat his allergic reaction but the medication she gave him cleared up his eyes and my buddy can see again. When all others told me he was blind and pay ur bill up front. DR Hobbs and her team were absolutely amazing. Thank you so much and Otis thanks you as well. :)

Dr. Megan Hoelter was fantastic!!! After a terrible day of picking up our dog from Pet Suites after our vacation and him being sick and coughing, the vet and techs here were so nice and caring towards us and our dog! They didn’t force us into any crazy or unnecessary tests. They gave us realistic expectations and were very compassionate. Yes, an exam here is more expensive than your typical vet, but they are there for you when your regular vet can’t be. Dr. Hoelter is a very good veterinarian and I can’t say enough about her and the techs!

They are smart, sensible, and good at it! While visiting the area for a dog show I found myself in a position of needing a good veterinarian. My pet needed emergency surgery. They did a fantastic job for a great out come at a reasonable price. Real medicine, not marketing!

Came in late night with my 4lb poodle mix for a grand mal seizure. Took him back immediately and staff was very helpful and kind. Definitely recommend for any emergencies.

donnie cox

avoid this vet. they take advantage of people in emotional distress and over charge them by twice the normal charge. they should be investigated for such practices

Have always had great experiences at this clinic until today. Took my 13 1/2 year old dog in for bloodwork and to discuss some ongoing acute pain episodes. All that anyone wanted to discuss were vaccines. Not going to get any vaccines at his age! I would do titres if necessary, and at this same clinic 5 months ago, the vet didn't feel titres or vaccines were necessary under the circumstances. Completely different story today. The vet wouldn't even attempt to diagnose the acute pain issues because my dog is "13 years old, anyway." I ended up getting the bloodwork and titres, but apparently, the clinic had never done titres before. They didn't know where to get it done or how much to charge. ?? I had to wait an hour for them to find out. I also got x-rays because the vet felt a lump on my dog's side. He said the x-rays were fine. I had them sent to our therapeutic vet and our Florida vet, just to be sure. I was very disappointed that the very reason I came was dismissed so readily, and the implication is that a problem that is difficult to diagnose is not worth investigating because the dog is 13. Pain is worth investigating to me; that's why I was there and spent $500, even though we didn't get anywhere down the path of diagnosing the pain problem. Maybe it's just a difference in culture and there is not much call for excellent veterinary care and response for senior dogs in this area. But I would have hoped that this clinic would have welcomed the opportunity to help a senior dog whose owner wanted that help, even if it isn't a common request.

PLEASE READ!!!!!! The worst vet that I have EVER been to. I've been to nearly every vet in Louisville with my duck, and upon arriving to this one, I thought they would be at least SOME help. I arrive there just a few days ago, as in emergency because I thought my duck was choking and was flailing it's head back. They told me "we don't usually look at ducks." And took him back. After taking him back, they did X-rays and it showed nothing in his windpipe which made no reason for him to be acting like he was. So when asking the vet what it could be, he said that he "googled other X-rays of ducks and Sunny appears to be normal." GOOGLED?! I could have done that and for $500 cheaper too?! They were SO unprofessional and after the questions I kept asking he just kept telling me he doesn't know. He did NOTHING for Sunny then proceeded to charger me more than I make in a week???? After that, feeling helpless, he had another seizure on the car ride home. Returning to the vet, I told them it happened again. Afterward, sunny was fine again, but the episodes kept happening. The vet then told me that sunny was getting weak and that they were, and I quote, "waiting on him to see if he was going to pass away." HOW COULD YOU SAY THAT TO SOMEONE ABOUT THEIR PET? that's literally trash! This place has no concern over the owner, the pet, not ANYONE. They only care about that big bill that they can charge yu at the end. Seriously, I will never return here. And I suggest any of yu who care about your pet, to do the same as me.

Ronni Norris

Have had to go here several times. Even though it is really far away from me. Always great with my pets.

Bre EazzY

Its such a shame that if you buy one of there cheap products that dont work they wont accept it back. What a poor service. I will never depend on them for anything.

Brittany Chandler

I had a beautiful great dane named Lunabelle. She had a bad case of gdv, and was in a lot of pain. They were extremely quick to get her in and examine her. Unfortunately circumstances dictated euthanasia was the best choice in our situation. The staff was very warm and caring toward my girl and myself during and after euthanasia. I cannot complain at all with their pricing at all. I found their x-rays and exam costs to be very reasonable for an animal hospital. I hope that I won't need emergency services again, if I do run into something that requires those services, I would return to their hospital. Dr. Linda Sayre, I truly appreciate the kindness you showed to my Lunabelle and myself.

Chris Calkins

Fantastic service. We had a neighborhood cat hit by a car late at night. The vet and tech were great in every way imaginable. Real heros here.

Jackson Roney

The absolute WORST place to take any animal. If you can’t afford to pay any of their outrageous fees up front, they’ll let your animal DIE even when they could easily save it. My dog had something that could easily be treated to save her life, and they wouldn’t perform the surgery because we couldn’t afford over a thousand dollars up front, even though we had already paid them around 400. (She ended up getting saved by a different veterinarian clinic who were MUCH more helpful and understanding than these people) DO NOT TAKE YOUR PETS HERE.

Lisa Bishop

Tommy Woosley

Very Very over priced.. Took my dog in to get looked at due to a rash they told me to fill out the paper work and they then took my dog back and gave him shots and whatever else they did WITH OUT MY CONSENT. Not even a word was spoken about the fees/ costs. well to my surprise the cost of the visit was $112 and the shots $20+ all said and done my dogs bill was $198 for him to be given something i could have gave him for $6 over the counter. I will never recommend this place unless your rich. This was my first time there and for sure my LAST!!!!

My cat, Wiley, went into the animal hospital in a very critical condition. He was in a great amount of shock, he had fluid all over his soft fur, was cut in multiple places, and some of his teeth were shattered. Wiley went in one day, and was able to come home the next day. The staff was so incredibly wonderful, even when i passed out on the hospital floor. They were very accommodating, and they loved my cat just as much as I do. Wiley is doing wonderful now! Very happy and healthy kitty! Thank you so much you all!!

Goldia Criswell

I rate it 1.5 Obviously I am not completely satisfied, So I had a stray come around my house, I called Alley Cat Advocates to have it spayed so I didn't have 30 of them running around. They had the SNIP Clinic spay her and I picked her up, She got sick so I called ACA and they referred me to Jefferson Animal as an Emergency. When we first got there it was great, they greated us and got us in quick, Once other people started coming in they forgot about Miss Kitty. Of Course she was the only cat and I wasn't paying the bill Alley Cats was. Then finally when it came time to release her, I was given medication and instructions. I asked for diagnosis and they said she's fine. After being confused they said it could be from her surgery. Will be taking this cat to Dixie Animal and paying for it my self. Looks like I have just adopted her! They were kind and handled her very well, They just didn't seem to have as much time for her when she wasn't the only animal in the place. When I asked about her an hour later they said it would be 10 minutes and the doctor would be seeing me, another hour later I ask about her and finally they send the doctor to me who tells me it will be 10 more minutes. I understand that their may be more serious attention needed with other pets, but can't they just say that?? The office visit for emergency is $145. Good thing I didn't have to pay it this time. On a positive note, For an emergency, possible deathly ill I guess they could be great. Outside of the wait and no time to explain the diagnosis, not bad experience

We took our cat there because she has been limping and we were unsure of the cause. They checked her for bites, wounds, marks, etc. Then the vet came in to check her more closely. He speculated that she was bumped by a car and could have a pelvic injury. He recommended an x-ray and pain pills. All for the low low price of $460. We got a second opinion. The wonderful vet at Johnson Family Animal Clinic found 3 bite marks and concluded she had an infection. And charged us about $90. (Which is how much it costs just to be SEEN at Jefferson Animal Clinic!)

Ashley Gallagher

Very supportive, and understanding staff. They never tried to sell us additional treatments and we're very accommodating to or family.

I am writing this review on behalf of my sister and her beloved dog Prissy. Prissy had experienced several medical issues and pain throughout the year 2014. Due to this extraordinary pain/ compassion for Prissy's misery, my sister made a difficult decision to have Prissy laid to rest. My sister decided to call the Jefferson Animal Hospital (Outerloop location) to acquire their services and her experience was AWFUL! Over the phone they LIED to her about how much it would cost to euthanize Prissy, which we believe was just a gimmick to get her into their doors. Their customer service was TERRIBLE, they showed no compassion towards Prissy, my sister nor my mother who accompanied them. They had ineffective communication skills regarding explaining all parts of the procedure and what they would cost. My sister was shocked and upset to find out that the cost was exorbitantly higher than what she was quoted over the phone; the nurse proceeds to see if they can give her a "discount" which dropped the price from $196 to $191. Then to add insult to injury, they sedated Prissy without permission, not giving my sister the option to rightfully be there with her beloved dog to grieve and properly lay her to rest with the comfort of knowing that Prissy was not alone during her last moments of life. After seeing my mother and sister bawling their eyes out due to the mistreatment and lack of concern/ compassion for Prissy and my family, the nurse then came back to them with a reduced price of $176 but then stated it would be $18 for them to go back and actually view Prissy being euthanized. WOW! I am not even what people would consider an "animal lover" but I do understand having empathy and sympathy for losing a loved one. The people that work for this hospital certainly did not practice either of those concepts and then lied to get some money. Shady business. If you are an animal lover I would NEVER acquire this hospital location for ANY services. Well, at least until they hire employees that actually care about people and their pets. Rest in peace Prissy. I pray that you did not feel the pain that my sister and mother felt from the hospital employees the day you were laid to rest at Jefferson Animal Hospital.

If I could give 0 I would they did the parvo test on my pup to see if it was that and it came back negative well our pup died today and turns out it was poisoning. We looked at the paper work and it says we declined a blood test when we hadn't done no such thing. I had a couple people say they over charged after I was there. I really wish my pup was still here R.I.P.

Great place to take your Pet. The Doctor and staff was very good with my dog.

Dr. Corbett from the fern creek location sent us over to this location when our pup decided to eat an upholstery tack off of a chair! We were seen by Dr. Todd who was AMAZING! She offered two options and explained the risks and benefits of both procedures in detail. We tried the less invasive option first and our sweet boy was upholstery tack free within minutes! There was no long wait, and while I’ve had very few emergency vet visits this was by far the best experience. Would recommend Dr. Todd to any of my pet parent friends.

My dog got very ill very suddenly over the Labor Day weekend. When it became clear something was terribly wrong, I called Jefferson Animal Clinic and they rushed to assist. Sam was seen immediately upon arrival Labor Day afternoon. I'll tell you this... I deal with people and situations in my own life very openly and frankly. The veterinarians here do the same and I appreciated the very frank assessment of Sam's condition and the warnings that we could be looking at a dire outcome. There is no easy way to deliver the news that a beloved friend may not pull through, but being handled honestly was preferable to being given false hope. When it came time later that same evening for us to say goodbye to our girl, we were given a private room and all the time we needed with her. The staff was courteous, sweet and obviously nearly as sad as we were. And when the deed was done, it was done gently and with soothing words, compassionate gestures and a sense of reverence. Yes, the price tag is a touch point, but when you've spent every day with an animal for over a decade, I don't feel like price should be a concern. I am grateful to the staff of Jefferson Animal Hospital and I will always be thankful for the chance to say goodbye in a warm and loving environment. With thanks, Alan Runyan & Alan Dunn

My dog Lily was just treated for an ear hematoma, and chronic ear infections. I've been to several different vets around Louisville for the chronic ear infections (because they failed to treat it, Lily got a hematoma), but this is the first one where the doctors and nurses actually seemed to care about Lily. They explained more about her condition and what treating her entails than every other vet we've spoken to combined. The staff was very polite, professional, and personable. It's a much longer drive to Jefferson vs our current vet, but we're switching to them for our pets' primary care from now on. They're worth it. Trust me.

If I could give this place zero stars I would!!! My daughter and my son took in a 13 week old pit bull puppy that had locked jaw and was severely malnourished and dehydrated. This "Animal Hospital" did not start any IV fluids to help with the severe dehydration. We have no idea how long this pup has went without food or water. Instead of stabilizing the patient, like a hospital would and any other vet would have, they checked the the pup for parvo and then sent the pup home stating that she would need round the clock care. I have NEVER seen such negligence in my entire life!!! Also, while my kids were there, there was another dog that they let lie on the floor bleeding out from its mouth. Jefferson Animal Hospital is NOT an animal hospital at all. They are a short stop clinic that is highly negligent. They do not CARE about the welfare of their clients. I will NEVER go back and I WILL discourage others from going there as well. Furthermore, after reading others experiences I am beginning to question why they still remain open. Dr. Sommer Dorn should have her license to practice taken away. I'm wondering if maybe a Class action lawsuit would change their negligence. Obviuosly, these vets are more worried about money than animals lives. Actions made by these doctors should speak volumes to the public. My regular vets office is irate over the negligence shown by these staff members. I'm sure the staff that was present are going to get together and make sure their stories match. Bottom line is there were 3 witnesses there that will testify that there was NO discussion of anything other than a parvo test. If anyone has any further info they would like to share, please do so. So many helpless animals have lost their lives due to negligence by an alleged animal hospital that obviously has terrible staff and don't follow standard procedures that other veterinarians use. Sad and pathetic.

We took our pet there on a Friday night after she was injured. The vet was very caring and compassionate. However, they advised me that several procedures were "necessary" in order to help. Because we love our pet, we consented to it. The receptionist inaccurately swiped our debit card. She attempted to correct her mistake but it took close to 20 minutes. We believed the error was corrected, but in the next day, Jefferson Animal Hospital managed to swipe our debit card over 8 times for a total of 2,000. When we attempted to speak with the office manager, Shelley, she was less than cooperative and basically called us liars. Jefferson Animal hospital, charged us double what it should have cost. THANKS JEFFERSON ANIMAL HOSPITAL, WAY TO TAKE ADVANGE OF SOMEONE IN A COMPROMISED STATE. STAY AWAY, BUT IF YOU GO, DON;T PAY WITH A CARD.

Dr Summer Dorn and Sara were incredible. They were so compassionate in caring for our dying 15 year old cat, Binx. Thank you so much for gently putting her out of her pain

A horrible, uncompassionate place. Do not take your pet here if you want them to live, or if you want to be treated properly. Had a cat with a blocked bladder, was told the told the price would be at least $1500 just for the first 24 hours, and they recommended he stays 3-4 days, then proceeded to act like paying $4000 was pocket change. Dr. Greer showed absolutely no compassion towards my cat or myself. It astonishes me that people who work with animals everyday cannot act the least bit compassionate towards the situation. Overall, I feel as if I have been conned by this hospital. We paid $500 to have him unblocked, and now he seems to be even worse than before. Do not go to these horrible, uncaring, people. They will take advantage of you and your undying love for your animal. Do yourself a big favor.

We took our 13 year old cat in here one night when she wasn't acting like herself and was breathing hard etc... they took excellent care of her, and one of the girls got us water and asked if we needed anything to let her know and our cat was allowed to roam around the room and get comfortable.thank you for your kindness.

Fantastic people that care. Took my dog Wiley in around 11pm. For a mistake I made with a Q tip. Thanks for everything.
