We love this place and will be letting them take care of our little pup for the long haul!
Really like this Veterinary office. Great People. Very Clean , every client seems to leave satisfied.
Has gotten us out of some tough situation s with our furbabies without breaking the bank, Thank you.
Afford-A-Vet is absolutely wonderful. We took our boxer there when we got her at 8 weeks old. Her breeder had not taken care of her at all so she had lots of problems. The doctors at Afford-A-Vet were so helpful and informative and took excellent care of her. She wouldn't have made it a couple more weeks had she not gotten care and she was in great hands at this office. I wouldn't go anywhere else for my boxers needs. Also we love that there are two locations and that they have great hours so no matter what side of town we are on we have access to her meds or whatever we need. I HIGHLY recommend taking your furry friends to Afford-A-Vet. You won't be disappointed!
They are cheap but take forever to see you even with an appointment.
Every time I go my animals are well taken care of. I have never been disappointed here. Love this place :)
Great prices for what we needed. Knowledgeable and friendly staff. We will definitely be going back.
Good place to take your pets very friendly and helpful
I went to the NIcholasville Rd Location and it was wonderful! I'm from Ohio and my little Min Pin has dermatitis. Every Vet I took her to there cost me at least $250 each time. I was able to get Remy in to this clinic and have her examined and given prescriptions for under $100!!!!! So glad my little pupster got the treatment and super friendly care she needed for a reasonable price. Plus they actually listened to me when I explained the medication she was on and not just try to give me something that I know won't work!
The vets and staff are usually nice but the main receptionist is rude every single time. Called this past week to make an appointment and she treated me like I was stupid. Very unprofessional. She ruins the entire experience. We brought our business to the other Lexington Afford a vet & loved it. 100% won't be back to this one.
Just no! So we go in because my cats eye is watering for a week right. Nothing major. The tech tells me they can clip his nails too for around $10.00 I tell her he does not like getting that done and she assures me it will be fine. Next thing I know she comes in and tells me it took four of them to hold him down to cut his nails and now I have to pay $20.00. Also that during this torture he peed and pooed on himself! I am so infuriated and refused to pay the extra charge. I told her if he was fighting that bad to where he had an accident on himself why in the world would they continue on with that?! And without my permission! I brought my cat to get his eye checked not to get held down by four vets and get so upset where he wet and craps himself! Unacceptable...just to make an extra $10.00? Next time Afford-A-Not-Vet ask the owners permission before you decide to do this type of crap to our pets! Never again!
Best place to take your furry kids the dr is very knowledgeable I will definitely come back
Kind staff.
DO NOT GO TO THIS ONE. My husband and I went in for just a check up on our puppy, they don't a bunch of random test witch was fine to insure that our puppy was healthy. But here we are a week later and even tho they don't a stool sample, and said all was normal with no worms or parasites. She has worms, we called them and they said and I quote "well, you would have to bring her back and you must have had her somewhere to contract a parasite". Don't go here to allow them to just take your money and send you on your way.
Staff is always friendly and take good care of your fur buddies.
My experience was questionable at this clinic. Brought in my litter at 5:25pm.... front staff said that they have appointments coming in and have to charge me a $60 emergency fee for coming in at 6pm.. we came in "5:25pm" andafter the puppies were seen..... my husband told me that nobody else came into the clinic.... so why charge us a 6pm emergency fee. Second... I did not like the fact that they took the puppies to be examined and vaccinated without allowing me to be present.... who knows if they even got the vaccines... I prefer to watch and observe...... Finally.... one of my puppies is scheduled to fly later in the week. I made sure to call my airline and find out what exactly it will be needed regarding paperwork.... needless to say, I only needed proof of vaccinations. . The vet/tech kept insisting that a health certificate is NECESSARY!!! That's an extra 50$......said that the puppy might not be let through TSA.. so I agreed. When I got home I called my airline 2x to verfiy..... No health certificate was needed.... so mad since I specified that I DIDNT need one when i came in...... Not gonna come to this clinic again.... had a budget but spent over 120$ past.
Very nice and friendly!!!
This place is best on earth. Caring professional staff. Vets r excellent w AL our fuzzies! Vickie Love
Good hospital.
I found the staff to lack compassion or empathy. All is well if one has the money for all the tests & blood work that they required to see my dog a second time, otherwise I couldn't bring him back and the vet would refuse to see him. That spoke volumes to me, I would never take my dog there again.
Wonderful, compassionate staff who treated me like family at a very difficult time when I had to decide it was time for my cat of 20+ years to cross the bridge. Afterwards they sent me a card in which the vet and three staff wrote personal notes and even included a pawprint of my cat.
Great place. Not expensive
@Chris, I am sorry for your loss, but Afford-A-Vet does not do any surgical procedures. So you must have the wrong place. It says so on their site and when you ask their employees. **Straight from their site: "We are not a full service veterinary hospital, thus we do not do surgical procedures, intensive care, or boarding. Therefore, we have lower overhead than most hospitals and can keep our prices lower." Now in my experience this place has been nothing but excellent. They are truly there to help the customer and their animal. I had a small emergency when my dog had to go in with an allergic reaction from chasing bugs. We went in not long after they started their emergency hours where they charge extra, and still charged us their normal office visit fee, which is very affordable. They've always cared more about the well-being of the animal and the happiness of the customer rather than the expense. I never go anywhere else for vaccinations and other small injuries.
The staff is friendly and helpful, and their prices are great. I would recommend them to anyone I know.
They do not have a lot of diagnostic equipment, but they are good for check-ups, vaccinations, blood panels, etc. They are friendly and cheap.
They do their best to help you stay in your budget.
Staff are all friendly and very helpful. Even if you don't have an appointment the wait isn't terrible. The vet and techs are so kind, I love that they bring you an invoice before they begin treating your pet. They go over every item individually so you can decide what you can afford that visit beforehand. They let you know what your pet needs and can have done later without being pushy at all, just helpful. They also connected us with the Humane Society's spay/neuter program very quickly. I would recommend this vet to anyone, best service at excellent prices.
Don’t waste your money. You’re better off going to a standard vet clinic. Took both of my dogs in July for an annual well check and vaccines. It wasn’t explained to me that the only thing they were receiving were boosters then we were supposed to come back in a month for the actual vaccine. Fast forward, I need to board my dogs for the weekend and now am having to spend more money on getting real vaccines and another office visit for each. So in July I spent $91, now at our regular vet spending another 180+ bc Afford A Vet didn’t explain the process or schedule these follow up appointments. Such disappointing service
Great staff good prices but the wait is to long 1hr+ with an appointment
I was able to make a next day appointment for my pup. They were very kind and fast upon arrival. The Dr let me know all options with my pups issue, as well as her personal opinion. Before starting exam, and before proceeding with any further treatments, the tech asked what my budget was to be sure they respected it. The office visit here is less than most other vets i know. Also, services such as nail clipping was literally HALF that of my previous vet. I was highly satisfied! I cannot say again how kind the staff was!!! They are now my new vet ☺
Great service
This is the best place to take your pet. Not only are the rates reasonable the doctors are very knowledgable and care about your pet. All of the staff is friendly. I would recommend them.
Excellent service. They really do all they can to give your animal a good experience since it can be scary for some animals.
Iv been to the afford a vet on lowery lane 3 different times in the last few months because my dog broke out in hives. The first time they gave my dog her shots she needed and everything was fine. I came back the second time because my dog broke out in hives and so we got her prescription and at that time they told me my dog was beginning her heat cycle because she was a little swollen and bleeding a little bit...What upsets me is the third time I came it was because my dog was bleeding and she was extremely swollen, just like a normal heat cycle you would think, but what i didnt understand as to why this was happening TWO MONTHS after I had went to the vet the last time and was told she was in her heat cycle. So I went back and spent $116 to have blood work done and get another prescription for her hives (she seems to be allergic to something and we dont know what)...we got a pill form of my dogs prescription and it completely knocked her out cold after we gave her one pill, and when i finally got my call from the vet about her blood work it came back normal, and they have no idea why shes having these abnormal heat cycles a month apart from each other. Oh & the second time i went they did not record anything from that visit, not her weight, not the prescription she was prescribed...nothing. I am very unsatisfied with this vet. I wouldnt recommend it to anyone.
Charged 4 times the fee for staff's poor time management and for asking quetions. I had two appointments scheduled back to back one for a dog and one for a cat. The appointments took over 1 1/2 hours. I was patient and did not complain about having to wait and the time it took. I spent less than 10 minutes with the vet for both appointments. I just got an email blaming me for their poor time management and criticiing me for asking the vet questions. AND saying from now on instead of being charged the usual $15 for an appointment, I will be charged $55. The email says "TO ACCOMMODATE YOUR INQUISITIVE MINE FUTURE EXAMINATIONS WILL BE $55,00 AND RECHECK EXAMINATIONS WILL BE $27.50" What other vet charges almost 4 times price for taking a lot of time to treat a pet and snidely criticizes a pet owner for asking questions. This place obviously doesn't want pet owners asking questions and blames bet owners for the staff's own bad time management. Charging 4 times the regular fee is unethical and so is demanding owners pay extra for asking questions. Even when the vet doesn't know the answers.
Your are completely incorrect, Mary. I, too, thought this business did not do surgical procedures...and had NOT taken my feline in for such. It was offered....and since the procedure is routine....I thought it would work out. It obviously did not...and I will continue to discourage others from using this establishment. That the 'manager' of this and other Afford-A-Vets in Lexington had no compassion whatsoever for the loss to our family speaks volumes. None....whatsoever.......brilliant! Never again. Forewarned is forearmed...but she apparently didn't receive that lesson. But she will...eventually, she will.
I love everyone there. They are terrific
Reasonably priced excellent service
A wonderful vet. My wife and I take our dogs here for everything and it's always a treat. Dr. Tia and the rest of the staff are absolutely amazing.
Took my mom's cat here yesterday and had a GREAT experience. The lady who came out and handled mom's cat was very knowledgeable and thorough. She took extra time to tell us exactly how to administer the cat's medicine even repeating herself when I looked confused. On top of it all the prices are beyond reasonable. They did two separate things on the cat and also gave us two lots of medicine and the price was less than $50. I will be bringing our dog here for sure!
I will admit, Afford-a-vet has great prices - $15 for an office visit and just single digits for shots, etc, but they make up for it with useless recommendations. I grew up on a farm and I know a lot of about proper pet care so I thought I could save some $ going here for the basics. So the MAIN REASON I WENT TO AFFORDAVET was for: 1. A RABIES SHOT, and 2. A BOOSTER SHOT… I ended up leaving with… a partial booster shot, a fecal exam (the dog didn’t really need) and an attempt to sell me wormer that I didn't need after the fecal exam came back negative. This was on top of the fact that I have given the dog wormer already as well as frontline flea protection. The vet refused to give my pup the rabies shot I made the appointment for and insisted I return in another month for more shots instead. I am never going back to Afford-A-Vet… yes, it’s cheap, but I was not treated very well and nor was my pet. You get what you pay for here, unfortunately.
Clean and professional, kind to pets.
Compassionate, professional and caring.
My appointment was an hour ago and I'm still in the waiting room. Two people with appointments after me have already gone back. One of the people working here just spoke to me. After nothing while I have been sitting here. For over an hour.
The doctors here are wonderful and makee feel comfortable putting my dog in their hands. However, the receptionist is so rude and condescending that I nearly left upon arrival. If her attitude doesn't change, I may change vets just to avoid such negativity as soon as I walk in. Rude and unacceptable in the professional setting.
They will work with you and they love your pets
Afford-A-Vet refused to see my pet when I called ahead with an emergency. My older dog was screeching in pain from what I suspected was a dislocated hip and I called ahead. He was already in their system so he wasn't even a new patient. They weren't going to close for another 35 minutes and a young man answered the phone. He sounded very young and put out that I wanted to come in. He hesitated when I told him the situation. I live 7 mins away. He said, " We are about to close…please hold." When he returned he offered up a lame excuse that they already had an emergency and recommended another place. Of all the lazy staff! I worked for a vet myself and if ever there was an emergency, we stayed late to HELP THE SUFFERING ANIMAL!!! This company turned us away. So I took their money elsewhere and let them know I would be posting a negative review.
Nice folks and affordable
Always friendly and very affordable.
I took my cat and little dog to this place. The vets were nice and they are very affordable. Trust me you will be happy.
Quick easy rabies shot for my Min Pin along with registration for the city. Clean and welcoming environment with a friendly staff. No fuss about trying to sell me extras.
First, the postive: The tech staff who weigh your pet and talk to you before the vet comes in are absolutely awesome and should seek employment at full-scale clinics. Honestly, you deserve to work at a better organization and those clinics can use people like you. The vets I've seen here are always the same indifferent, fake nice, I wish I was somewhere else, back at lunch vets. They rub your pet's stomach and throw out a hundred possible scenarios, run the script of how they are limited and can't do much and refer you to a full scale clinic. Luckily, I found a great vet on Richmond Road and won't be returning here.
Prices are affordable and staff are friendly as could be. I take my puppy here for vaccines and regular exams only. When we had an emergency we were referred to a different vet because the lasy said that they couldnt do any xrays and it would be a waste of money if i try to bring him there and take him tothe other vet.... whoch worked well for us.... i just wish they would have more equipment to do everything so we can stay with one place and not have to take our baby to two different places....
Staff is great; however it is not low cost as the name might lead you to believe. So, I rated in the middle. Staff gets a 5. Cost gets a 1.
Great friendly service, affordable prices and great information about services
We've been going here for four years for our two Huskies. We've had nothing but wonderful experiences with the vets and office staff. Yearly shots and checkups are reasonably priced, scheduling appointments is easy, and its in a convenient location. I see no reason to look elsewhere for pet care.
Great service. Friendly staff. Very knowledgeable. Been going there for 10 years.
Afford A Vet gives great vet care to my dog. Their prices are great and they are so nice. They give great care to the customers.
The staff were all very rude and condescending with the exception of the veterinarian.
My favorite vet in Lexington. My pet always is attended to in a professional and virtuous manner. The staff is amicable and helpful. They are highly recommended for an affordable, friendly staff.
They're friendly, informative and inviting. Friendly to people and pets. Informative of all the options to keep your pet healthy. Inviting to answer all questions and concerns.
Dr Rowland is wonderful.
I go to Afford-A-Vet to get all of my dog's vaccinations. They are always helpful and knowledgeable about what I'm there for. I think this is a great place to get non emergency things taken care of.
Their prices are very reasonable! And, we have always received impeccable service!
We have been to afford a vet several times with dogs and cats. Things I like: -The ability to usually get an appointment same day if needed. -The compassion of the staff (the vet and techs actually get down on the floor with the animals to comfort them) -Usually very reachable by phone -Very understanding of budget constraints and are very willing to work with you on this. -Were able to diagnose a tumor on my dog, and while they could not operate on it they referred us to a fantastic vet with a discount to do so. Only one complaint. Sometimes you're waiting a while. This is the nature of a clinic that is high volume and low cost, especially when they take walk ins (which I think is great). So I am completely understanding of this even though it can be frustrating. All in all I am very pleased with Afford a Vet.
They are always SO sweet and very accomodating to schedules and last minute appointments. Very thankful for Afford-A-Vet!
Absolutely Gr8 staff!
It's a very cheap vet, but it's cheap because they don't do much. I took my new cat in with a few health concerns (obesity, anxiety, cloudy watery eyes), and the vet told me to go somewhere else to have the cat checked out because they didn't know enough to make any diagnoses. They didn't offer me any advice, any medications, or any tests for diseases by blood work. If you have actual concerns about your pet, go some place else, because all that this clinic does is take their temperature, weigh them and do a basic physical exam. They seem inexperienced.
Checking prices... not bad
The Richmond Rd Afford-A-Vet has always gone above and beyond for my furbabies. I have taken them there for the past 7 years and have always received great care and concern for my children. I lost my little Sassy girl last May after her battle with congestive heart failure. The doctors and techs did everything in their power to care for her while she was sick. When i finally lost her they hand wrote a very touching card and gave it to me. 2 weeks ago i lost my little boy, Ozzie. Again the doctors and techs had done everything humanly possible for him. I received a card in the mail today from one of the doctors and 2 of the techs. It made me cry but also made me feel really good that they cared about my child and me enough to send a card. I love this place and will continue to take my newest furbaby there. Thank you from the bottom of my heart Dr. Rankin, Dr. Gale-Dyer, Mackenzie, Eliza, Christy and Gina for all you have done for my family.
Excellent Vet care
Quick, friendly, and affordable.
Do NOT be dissuaded by the name. Even though they offer great prices, they offer even better care i.e. the price does NOT reflect the care given. I have taken my pets to various veterinarians over the years and several here in Lexington. I had one particularly horrid experience with one off of Tates Creek Road, so I am especially picky when choosing a new place. Afford-A-Vet provides excellent service and exhibits the utmost professionalism. This team is both knowledgeable and cares about their patients. There is one technician, Christy, who spends extra time going over any questions, thoroughly explaining everything, and providing pamphlets and information about questions asked. They really do go above and beyond. Everyone from the receptionist to the veterinarian has such great manners every visit, and I can tell they all really love animals and that it is not just a job to them. Thank you, Richmond Rd. Afford-A-Vet team! My fur-babies will soon be seeing you again for their shots and yearly checkup! :)
Do not come here for "walk-in" services like nail clipping. Been waiting over an hour while no other patients have even checked out.
Greatest staff!!!
Overcharged and not a friendly place
They always go above and beyond for me i go there to get my dogs flea pill bravecto its great
Amazing vets that truly care about you and your pet! Everyone I’ve met there has been friendly and so helpful. They make going to the vet a fun experience for your pet and affordable for you, too! I highly recommend them!
I have taken my cat there for a couple different reasons and they always made me feel comfortable & they were great with my baby girl kitty. They are very reasonable on they prices for routine care. I would highly recommend anyone to take their pets there for care. I plan on stsying with them for a long time. Thanks Afford-A-Vet for your time & caring! Sincerely, Heather Hendrix Kitty: Kaitlyn Hendrix
Be careful what you say around them....you'll start getting charges you didnt agree to.
Inexpensive routine care. They listened to my concerns and addressed them. Wonderful people who are always helpful.
