What a LIFESAVER literally!! Dogs got into some rat poison and all it took was a phone call to our vet and the Emergency Vet Clinic got the medicine ready for us. The staff was friendly and caring. Thank you for being there on a Sunday afternoon. All was handled while we were driving back into town via the phone. THANK YOU
We recently took our dog to this hospital. It was late at night and we were so worried. The staff was incredible. From the minute we walked in the door I felt relieved and could tell that everyone we interacted with cared deeply for animals. It turned out that our dog needed surgery. The doctor and staff kept us up to date the entire time and our dog came out of it ok. After a couple of days he was ready to come home and is now as happy and healthy as ever!!
The doctors and staff are amazing!! Sometimes there may be a long wait when more serious cases require attention, but that’s how it is at any Emergency Room. For serious injuries or illnesses that require surgery or other specialized care, this is the best place for your pet. The fees may seem high, but it’s worth it to get the best care for your fur baby. The costs keep the facility open 24/7, allow them to have top of the line medical equipment, and hire highly skilled and caring specialized doctors. If I had something seriously wrong with me or a family member, I would hope to find a hospital or clinic for people and doctors with as much expertise as this clinic has.
We needed emergency care for our 12 year old golden retriever while we were on vacation in Kansas. (far away from home In California ). Dr Howell and the staff were wonderful. We got our dog the care he needed and the cost was reasonable.
Took my dog in for seizures. They were quite polite until I told them that my dog wouldn't be left there overnight since I was from out of town and would be taking him to his regular vet the next day, then it was just like they really didn't care and took to a condescending tone with me. Was initially told it would be a $110 emergency fee on the phone, even after I told them he was having seizures, then upon arrival was told it would instead be $250 for intensive care since he was having seizures. They did nothing to treat his seizures, gave him nothing for it, just prescribed an antibiotic to treat the cause after a blood test, but still charged me for intensive care. Had to ask them twice to send the test results to a local vet. Luckily, my local vet will now handle emergency after hours calls and I will never have to drive an hour to be treated like crap and robbed again.
The staff went above and beyond to assist me with care for my Lucy and worked with me on every financial avenue possible to make sure that she was okay and would receive the care that she needed. I couldnt be more pleased and blessed with the level of compassion and care they gave Lucy and I.
Professional and kind staff which can be hard to find in a high stress emergency hospital. They truly seem to care about their patients and clients.
Dr. Was very good, and very nice. Treated us very professional and also our dog. We were seen quickly and price was reasonable for an emergency situation
I just called because my ferret is dragging her back leg and I'm not sure why or what might have happened to her, the pre-recording said they treat all animals but once we got to actually talk to a real person they told us they only treat cats and dogs. I'm very disappointed!
Very discreet, respectful, knowledgeable, and professional! I would recommend to anyone!
Their whole Team was so very comforting, understanding and touched my heart! Thank you for being there for Snuffy and I! (:
I'm only giving them a 2 because their staffs are very nice (the lady that was working the front desk) and they're open. 24/7. I waited for 3 hours with no update. I get that they were busy. I got really frustrated that I could hear staff in the back giggling and making jokes while I sit there waiting to find out what's going on with my dog. Just a simple update would have been nice. I had to ask. I had very little knowledge on what they were doing until I was paying for it. I was informed that they would do an Xray and figure out treatment from there. That didn't happen, they were giving him different meds. I told the staff in the beggining that he doesnt do well with certain pain meds. What do they do? They give him stuff with pain meds in it. Thankfully it wasn't the meds that he reacts to, but when I asked the Dr about it, he acted surprised like his nurse didn't inform him. **EDIT** I changed it to one star. Today I took my dog to his usual vet to find out that the meds my dog was given was the meds that he reacts to. Which is probably why he was worse after we left the ER... If they would have given me knowledge that they wanted to give him pain meds, I would have gotten the name of the pain meds that my dog doesnt do well with...... Instead they just did what they wanted and I had to pay for it.... I will never take any of my pets there again.
These people are fantastic. My dog escaped, was hit by a car and brought in by animal control. They provided stabilizing care until I was able to find him and claim him. They then kept me in the loop on how he was progressing and worked with me on his treatment plan to fit in my budget while providing him the best treatment possible. Yes, this place is expensive, but it provides services that aren't available anywhere else, and my dog would have died without them. And my final bill turned out to be less than the estimate! Thank you Dr. Christinat, Dr. Lofgreen, Melinda, and everyone else who's names I can't recall at the moment. Your kind and compassionate care brought Pepper back home to his family!
Got my little dog all fixed up, staff is very helpful & kind!
The vets and staff were amazing they took care of everything and gave us time to process our grieving they went above and beyond. Zoey was in good hands!
The Doctor and staff were professional, caring, and compassionate with my dog and family. They made an unbearable situation go as smoothly as possible while giving us all the time we needed. Thank you from Emma and the Torkelson family.
They were very nice and explained options well. Treated my dog good and service was fast and professional, and respectful.
2 of there vets ms diagnose my dog, one was there specialist, because of that she suffered for 2 days. until they did surgery then she was put down 6 hrs after that and a 6000 bill, I am ok paying if things are done the right way.. They took 1500 in ex-rays she did not need for the surgery, I took my last dog to k state vet hospital, I promise you they are the best, i made a huge mistake by not going there, go to kstate if your pet needs surgery or anything your local vet can not help with..it will be worth the trip..
If you want to kill your pet, go there. May 12, Mother's Day, we had a strong beautiful and much loved English Bulldog, 2 years and almost three month old, in his prime. He started limping and licked his left paw, we thought that he had a thorn, and just needed a doctor to pull it out. It turned out to be a small infected spot. Four hours later, he's dead. We had to pay $600 plus for the treatment and the Cremation. Dog goes in and ash comes out.
Thank you so much for turning our sick dog away seeing as how we were twenty dollars short for the visit yesterday. He died about six hours later. In front of all four of my kids. What a wonderful, compassionate clinic your aren't. Maybe he would have passed anyway, who knows, but thanks for not even giving him a chance.
Highly recommend. This is one of the best veterinary hospitals ever been too great staff very knowledgeable affordable and helpful saved my dogs life when no other place could and they weren't just after how much I could give them out of my wallet. Thank You
Dr Townsley and the staff were very kind to us today. Many thanks to them for everything!
This place is amazing! They treated my dog wonderfully and explained everything to me. I was upset when I had to leave my dog overnight and they reassured me that i was doing what was best for her. The vet called with any update before her shift was over to help give me piece of mind. My dog is better then ever and I appreciate everything they did!
You first need to know this place went ABOVE AND BEYOND its way to save my ace elderly dog that had gotten pancreatitis from the fatty foods that I have been giving it what human food and it took care of my dog and instead of sending it to a regular vet which I had no transportation to it kept it overnight for 3 days keep in mind that this is and er visit for my dog and these usaully arent cheaper well you guys seemingly are cheaper and far friendlier thand anyone AND YOU ANOTHER OF my dog's life is saved my other dog's life when I was watching and the other dog got pooh and he had to have 17 stitches in his throat and his in a drain tube put in his throat and they were the only place open so this place is wonderful saves animals lives ** picture of me and new dog and collage of Pooh Bear Ace and Brindy
I took my very large cat in Sunday evening. George was gasping for air, couldn't meow, could hardly stand and had obviously lost weight. They took him in immediately and shortly after I was called to triage to be advised he was in desperate trouble. Long story short, while I got to hold him, George stopped breathing a little after 11 pm. The place was seriously hopping Sunday, but they took the time to update me so I could decide to let him go or not and long enough for my youngest son and my husband to be there with me. Yes, it isn't a cheap operation they run, but worth it to me to know I did what I could for my gentle friend Thank you and God Bless.
I brought my dog in here after accidentally backing over him with my golf cart. The staff was very compassionate and immediately took action to make sure my baby was taken care of. I truly appreciate that I had a place to go to when my regular vet clinic was closed. I would recommend this place to anyone in an emergency situation.
I appreciate this hospital they helped me with my pets when it was time for my pets had to go to heaven there awesome
Staff was quick to jump into action and very professional. The wonderful receptionist kept us updated and informed and were very compassionate going above and beyond their call of duty! Deb was absolutely amazing! In the midst of a busy ER she updated all family members and took the needed time to console a family putting their fur baby to rest! I hope I won’t be needing emergency care for my animals but if I ever do rest assured I will be returning! My thanks to all the staff for all that you do!!!
Brought our dog in to have him looked at and refused service to us cuz we didn't have any money at the time and can't get approved with their credit
Do NOT take your animal there! They are rude and charge outrageous fees for very little service. My dog broke her leg. She was in pain and her leg was swelling badly. After an hour of waiting I asked if someone was going to come see her. The receptionist said "Your dog is fine. I can tell. There are other patients ahead of you.". I then asked for an ice pack at least to help with the swelling. I never got one. The Vet that finally did take a look at my dog was nice, if not forgetful. The vet gave my dog a shot for pain and told me to see the Receptionist. Again the lady was very rude and said, "We will not touch your dog until you pay us $225. I asked who the owner of the clinic was and she did not want to tell me, nor would she tell me her name. Finally she gave me the name of the owner. I will be contacting this person and letting him know that because of that rude receptionist, I took my business elsewhere. I mean seriously, they are an emergency clinic and if she can not handle the environment and be compassionate towards people with dogs needing emergency care, she should not work there. Save yourself lots of money and lots of anguish and go find a vet clinic that cares about your pet. This one obviously does not.
Waited over 4hours!! Plus, 2 dogs went ahead of us. Awful service.
Absolutely horrible like everyone else here has reviewed. PLEASE LOOK AROUND. THIS PLACE IS OUT TO COLLECT EXAM FEES. I arrived at 8:10 was not taken into an exam room until 9:45-10:00. After "nurse" took vitals, doc visited for 15 minutes then wrote up a $1200 estimate. The exam consisted of him feeling my cat and nothing else. Read the reviews carefully. I will be fighting this place to keep as many people out as possible. They can look forward to seeing me outside with a sign warning people to read the reviews. They are 3.1 as of today. Nearly every other vet in the Wichita area is 4.5 or better. Don't take your pet here!
We've had to take our dogs there 4 times, unfortunately, and they've been treated superbly each time. The first was for an allergic reaction our youngest Dachshund had. She recovered nicely and was feeling better by the time we even got back in the car. Then, our older Dachshund had a flair up of an old disc herniation and Dr. Hinshaw prescribed some steroids and pain relief that had her back to new in no time. That same Dachshund was attacked by a coyote 3 years ago while out doing her business in the yard. She had 40 puncture wounds and the Emergency Vet Clinic was instrumental in saving her life and assuring no infection set in. We were there just 3 days ago when the youngest Dachshund, now 13, was discovered to have mitral valve insufficiency leading to rapid heart beat. Dr. Pratt was FANTASTIC, prescribed meds and our little baby is 99% good as new. She'll probably be on meds the rest of her life, now. I see so many people criticize the clinic for actually being FOR PROFIT! People, how do you think they can do what they do if they do it for FREE? Of course they love animals... but to take care of them it costs money. They aren't cheap, but when it's an emergency we're lucky to have such a place to take our "babies" and they have every right to expect payment. Get over yourselves and realize that the care requires expert education, advanced equipment and a facility, which all cost money.
All they care is the money and stuff was unable to diagnose my dog. They were just guessing
I would give this place no stars if I had the option! Do not go to this place in an emergency! Whoever is in charge here will lie to you, decieve you just to get your money out of you! Completely dispicable person who told me they would be saving my baby cat who get run over only to have me agree to treatment, etc. only to find out minutes later he didnt make it and they bring him out to me already dead and cold! They will be dealt with on the deceitful ways that they operate! I would have had my last seconds of my cat in my arms than to ever brought him here! If you ever have an emergency for your pet please do not take them here!!
I didn't always work here. I've had cats and dogs as patients over the years and one of the reasons I DO work here is because of the care that was shown to my pets when I was frantic and it was the middle of the night and my dog/cat was sick. I don't know what I would have done without this hospital. I'm proud of everyone who works here, and I'm happy to serve the clients who, like me, needed a caring and compassionate staff to give me peace of mind.
I took my dog in to be seen because my three year old granddaughter dropped her while taking her down stairs. I simply wanted an x-ray to see if she had broken her leg because she was limping. I waited for THREE hours and watched as other people waiting were seen before I was able to finally get a room. I asked at one point when I would get a room and they looked at the time I arrived and was shocked to see that I had been there for two hours. At that same time a crazy woman came in and started threatening me and the other people in the waiting room. When she went out to smoke a cigarette, they let her back in. I finally got a room and I waited for 30 minutes and heard the crazy woman again. At that point I decided to leave and take my dog to the vet the next morning. I am not pleased with the way I was treated at all!!!
Pets treated well
We took our dog, Shermy, in for end of life care when he finally let us know it was time. We had never been there before because it was after hours for our regular vet. The staff and veterinarians were so kind and thoughtful throughout the whole process. My husband and I would HIGHLY recommend them. Thank you for your kindness and compassion on a very tough day.
We had an excellent experience at this clinic. We just brought home our new puppy from the shelter and soon after realized he was very lethargic, Dr. Lofgreen immediately diagnosed our puppy with parvo and began treatment right away. Our puppy was back to being a happy, playful, puppy within 3 days all thanks to the care and treatment he received from the wonderful staff at this clinic. I feel very fortunate to have found a clinic filled with such a wealth of expertise and heart.
October 10th, 2018... Truly a sad day... My dear sweet Baylor became critically distressed in the middle of the night...her sudden, shrill scream, moved me unlike anything else I have ever experienced in life. I scooped her up in a blanket, and rushed her to this Hospital... running red lights and all... As I carried her limp little body hurriedly through the door, I knew her end had come, much to my dismay... Before I even made it to the front counter, the staff went into action... ( My sincerest apologies to the staff... for now, not only can I not name those involved, I can't even describe your appearances... except for the fact that everyone involved was wearing scrubs...) The young lady behind the front counter phoned to the back... "... unresponsive dog..." As quickly as the phone was hung up, another young lady appeared, coming from the back... As quickly as she appeared, she disappeared... carrying my sweet little Baylor... I found comfort in her parting words... "...we'll do what we can..." Sadly, against all of my will, she returned with confirmation of what I already knew... "...there was no pulse, nothing we could do..." She offered the use of one of the exam rooms to give me some time with Baylor to say goodbye... I took the room, I took the time... and I cried a very tearful goodbye to the sweetest little friend I've ever known... I can't put into words how much I truly appreciate the way those staff members on duty that early morning handled this situation. To say that they were professional, caring, and compassionate... would be a gross understatement. Saying Thank You, would be just as inadequate... My heart truly goes out to my dearly departed little friend, and my hat goes off to the staff at the VETERINARY EMERGENCY & SPECIALTY HOSPITAL of WICHITA. Sometimes, Gods mightiest of angels don't have wings and halos... but they are blessed with four paws, fur coats, and wagging tails... I ask you, my fellow humans... Have you loved your angel today? Please do...
Wonderful surgeon Dr.Korani and surgical staff. My GSD had to have surgery here to remove her infected anal glands. Everyone was amazing and took great care of my baby girl. Any questions I had were answered and she is doing fantastic now. Back to herself herding her sister and chasing squirrels.
The Dr & staff are so very kind & compassionate. Another vet earlier the week said our fur baby just had a wee infection. Tonight we had to lay our precious Xena down. The Dr discovered right away that our baby had a malignant tumor by doing a thorough examination. Our baby was spoken to softly, handled gently & the staff gave us all the time we needed to say goodbye. We couldn't have put her in anyone else's care as this veterinary hospital was diligent on finding answers & loving our baby.
This is the best care I have ever received for an animal. My dog was attacked and we came in, in a complete panic. They took my pup back right away and the staff also made sure I was okay. The ladies at the front desk and all the techs and both vets that took care of my boy during his two day stay were nothing short of amazing. They took the time to text me and send me pictures while he was in their care. They made the worst situation so much easier with their kindness and compassion. I really can’t put into words how much they helped through a hard time. Thank you for the amazing medical and emotional care for my pup. And if you’re ever in a situation that you need emergency care, I highly recommend this facility. It is no exaggeration that their help saved my boy and kept him with me for years to come. ♥️
Came in after my little pup was hit by a car they worked with me on payment which was amazing if your pet needs help right now take it to them they will fix it all right
Took our dog in for a serious chest injury. They treated her promptly, explained the after care, and filled the prescriptions. To save us money, they recommended seeing our family vet for the required daily bandage changes. Dr. Townsley called our family vet to make sure she understood what needed to be done. I was pleased with the care and our dog is fine now.
The wait can be long but staff and physicians are friendly. I gave three stars for two reasons. 1. They prescribed medication that was very difficult to find or not available anywhere else and didn't want to refill and 2. The costs were extremely high for what was done.
i could not be happier with the care they provided my boy Walter during his stay here. An unfortunate circumstance brought us here and he had to stay for a few days. Dr. Christinat was communicative and thorough, and even though we never had the chance to meet in person, I trusted that he and his team provided the best care possible. Yes the prices are steep, but I could not put a price tag on my dogs health and I'm grateful Wichita has a place to turn to in the event of an emergency. Thank you all!
My experience was great. Yes, the wait was long. Yes, the bill was higher than it would have been at my vet, but there is no price to put on peace of mind and a healthy cat. I brought in my little darling after my vet had closed for the weekend. Somehow, he had tangled his paw in wire and I could NOT get it unwrapped. His foot began to swell to twice its normal size and he seemed very uncomfortable and feverish. Thanks to the immediate care we were given, he's doing so much better now. I would not hesitate for a moment to bring any of my pets in if my they were in pain. The staff is amazingly compassionate. The receptionists and the technicians kept me apprised as he recovered, and kept me in pretzels and hot chocolate, too. It's a very, VERY, busy hospital and yet everyone kept their smiles.
I feel like Wichita is blessed to have this kind of facility. My experiences here have mostly been when regular vets are not open, or if there's overnight monitoring necessary. I've arrived with various kinds of illness', injury's and end of life experiences of loved ones and ALWAYS felt they treat the patient and owner with kindness and respect. They went the extra mile on so many occasions in my opinion.
I’m honestly shocked by these bad reviews! I brought my puppies I’m scared they had parvo. They calmed me down and checked everything they needed to. Even told me what they were doing and told me the price the whole way. They helped me so much. I can’t thank them enough for what they did
I am so grateful for the outstanding care my two year old maltipoo received. Dr. Lofgreen, Dr. Smith, and all of the staff, were so attentive, caring, and knowledgeable. They helped my dog through a very critical time with a serious back injury. Thanks to their diligence and incredible care, our dog is doing amazing and is healing well. Cannot say enough great things about the all around service we received.
We LOVE this place! We used their emergency services and their office hours. All of the receptionist were so nice to us and even went back and played with our dog during his stay. Each tech we had was wonderful and answered all of our questions. We saw Dr. Alex Brooks-Shrauth during our ER visit and Dr. Holly Smith to do our surgery and check-ups. They both were so helpful, constantly answering questions we had and ones we didn’t know we had. My puppy had to stay for 2 nights and I called many times to check up on him and was able to talk to Dr. Smith directly each time! HIGHLY RECOMMEND!
Spent 4 hours and $600 to get 2 incorrect diagnoses and no actual help. Was told to come back the next day and was given a third diagnosis and expected to pay almost $3000 more. Most of staff was more concerned with making sure I would pay them than what was actually going on with my baby. Both Drs I saw were rude in different ways. Constantly contradited what they said to me. Questioned how my baby was injured in an accusing way. Not happy at all. Made a bad situation more stressful than it needed to be.
Thank you so much for all of your empathy and compassion when my son brought our little baby, Whiskey, in tonight. We appreciate it more than words can ever begin to express. Thank you.
Terrible and unethical establishment. Their concern is more focused on extracting money from people rather than actually trying to solve the problem of why you brought the pet in. Regardless of why you’re there.. their go to is “your pet needs an X-ray/Cat scan”, or “your pet needs a pain shot” etc. ($200-$800). I would compare this place to somewhere like Jiffy Lube as an example. Bring your car in for an oil change and they start telling you all these “immediate repairs or services your car needs” that you need to buy from them right now (all of which you know nothing about).. and you love your car and want to make sure your car is in good shape, but you’re not sure if the guy is being honest with his evaluation or just trying to make a sale. it’s not a comfortable feeling. And very unfortunate for a company to exploit people’s pets for a profit.
I had heard that this clinic finally drew the necessary attention to do something about how they operate... so I did a google search to find if it was true. I am deeply heartsick with disappointment to find that this clinic is still in operation and according to their website - by the same management. It has been almost two years and I will never forgive myself for allowing them anywhere near my four legged kid - let alone paying them for it.
In an emergency situation with our dog Moe, from the time we called till we left the front desk staff, vet techs and Dr Howell were amazing. Compassionate, attentive and communicated every step and cost. We would give 10 stars if we could.
Saved my cats life almost dued from being poisoned having seizures
My dachshund/beagle mix had been acting strangely for a day and a half before I realized he hadn't made any bowel movements for a while, and when he started vomiting I realized he needed help right away. My normal vet was closed on weekends, so I went to the Veterinary Emergency & Specialty Hospital of Wichita just south of Kellogg on Washington that I had only heard of recently, and to make a long story short, two vets and a radiologist agreed there was some sort of blockage in his intestines that they needed to remove, and they did it the surgery professionally and with lots of care and smiles for me and my dog. The staff was courteous and wonderful and while I hope I never have a reason to go back, I know now where to go in a pet emergency.
Would not recommend this place to anyone! Took my moms pup there while she was visiting, this was both mine and my mother’s first time coming to this place. her pup has had a history of having pinched nerves/muscles. So we were seeing if there was anything we could do to let him feel more relaxed. Waited an hour just to go to an exam room. Finally went to the exam room waited another hour just for a doctor to spend all of 15 minutes poking at him and he says he has severe nerve damage and he’s going to need a cat scan and probably is going to need surgery. He was rude didn’t give any other option and said it would be 900 dollars we asked For a second opinion. This doctor told my mom that he had a sepecialist but they wouldn’t see my moms pup until after the cat scan. So we debated but we didn’t understand why because this has happened before and he never needed surgery. So when we decided we were taking him to a specialist the next day they took Prince back to some room I find very unsettling that they just up and took my moms pup didn’t tell us anything besides she was going to give him a pain shot. Took thirty minutes to get this pain shot and I felt uncomfortable because I had no idea it would take that long to get a shot! While we were waiting all I hear from that room is laughing. So about after about 10 minutes my mom was wondering where her dog was and peaked her head through the door and one of the techs came and blocked the door and said that they were just finishing up and said the doctor wanted to know if we decided to go ahead with the cat scan and we told her no. After about another 10 minutes doctor come is and starts to raise his voice and basically is trying to bully me and my mother to have this 900 dollar cat scan done and then got upset when we said we were going to go with a second opinion because we felt that would not benefit prince. Then finally after an hour later we finally got prince. I don’t understand. Why did it take so long to give the poor pup a shot? Why did we get treated this way when all we wanted to some pain relief for our pup? What happened in that thirty minutes prince was in the back room? I know he was somewhat cared for from a sweet Tech who had just arrived. I am thankful he did get some pain relief but that is not how you do business even if your money hungry. My mother and I feel so disrespected I will tell everyone I know who has a pet to stay away from this place. And this doctor whoever he is. I hope he doesn’t treat anyone else like that if he is the leader of the vets.
Veterinary Emergency & Specialty Hospital is very professional and welcoming. My husband took our puppy there to have his leg examined. The specialist did provide him with options to lower X-ray charges which we gladly listened but The problem that I have is if you aren't approved for a credit card the only options you have is come up with the funds. Times are hard but even humans get billed or given alternative payment options. No one likes to see their pets injured and to have to continuously pay out of pocket expenses. It just think it's hard enough dealing with emergency situations let alone worry about funds and your pet. Just to discuss financing options we had to come back in to the office, pay a fee. After viewing the website it gave a few options: care credit, icare, and paw it forward and after speaking with the receptionist we were told only care credit is now available and the website needed to be updated. I guess my pups broken leg was not critical enough to meet any other options. Just simply overwhelmed and wish there were other financial options especially since the surgery needed is only done at this facility in the Wichita area. Other than the financial aspect, I believe the wait is to be expected when visiting an ER and the staff was friendly. Just wish there were more options for people who have pets who they love. I am hoping we can save up enough money over the next couple of months or even raise some money on a gofundme account but it really hurts my heart as well as my kids heart to see our pup in pain.
Overall, we had an excellent experience here. Our dog got injured in the wee hours of the morning on a Saturday, and our normal vet was not set up for the sort of surgery that she would have required. They referred us to the Emergency Clinic. I was incredibly worried about our dog, as she had a huge gash down her side (but was still otherwise acting pretty normal???), so we rushed her to the Veterinary ER. The person at the front desk was kind and patient with us, and they rushed her into the back room right away. She did have to wait a while to go into surgery, but my understanding is, that is how triage works! They patched her up to make her stable, and we sat and watched as several separate CRITICAL patients came in after us. If I had been in those owner's positions, I would want my cat or dog treated first, too! They also did a great job of communicating with us. When Dr. Schroeder came out and talked with us, she explained exactly what was going on and how long we could expect to wait for our dog to be out of surgery. She was reassuring, VERY knowledgeable, and very friendly with us (as well as with our dog!) Our dog was patched up and sent home with us that day (which I did not expect!) and they even mentioned, even if she had had to stay the night, they would not have charged us extra for the overnight stay. I consider this fair and very considerate of our financial situation. Finally, the finances. This place was more expensive than a regular vet (duh), but that is because they offer services and hours a regular vet doesn't or can't offer (also, duh). I appreciated their willingness to work with us on a price. It was expensive, don't get me wrong, but they worked up an estimate and the surgery went so well, she came in WAY under budget. I really appreciated this as well. Overall, I'd say my experience here was a good one (considering the circumstances). Dr. Schroeder even called us a few days later to check up on our dog and make sure everything was going okay with her stitches! I don't think I've ever had a vet call me with a follow up, ever. This just goes to show how far out of their way they will go to make sure your dog or cat gets the treatment and care they need. I give these guys a well-deserved 5 stars.
Unfortunately we met the wonderful people of the emergency veterinary clinic this morning with our dog. I cannot say enough great things about this place. Even though they were obviously quite busy, they took excellent care of our dog and us. Every person seemed to truly care about what they do.
Three stars only because the people were friendly. They wrapped my dogs leg and it was so tight that not only did he have to get the wrap off over a week early, but had to get stitches from where it rubbed him so badly. When the wrap was off he was so swollen from where it was wrapped so tight and he had other sores associated with the wrap. His regular vet is the one who removed the wrap and stitched him. I called the emergency vet to see if they would pay for the stitches that my dog had to receive I got a roundabout answer of no that that's a risk with any Band-Aid which makes no sense. Fairly nice people and they care about your animal but I would be careful with any treatment you receive here and would suggest traveling somewhere else if you can.
We told them to stop services and that we were transferring our dog at 8:45. At 8:59 they gave our dog medication and charged us. We picked up our dog at 9:00. This is how the paperwork reads. $35 charge that now has me second guessing ever using their services on a weekday morning again. I figured they would know more being an "emergency" vet. All they know is medicate, medicate, medicate and CHARGE, CHARGE, CHARGE. According to another vet they gave more medications than necessary. And they gave our dog a dose of medication when they knew we were taking our dog to our vet for the day.
I have multiple dogs and have brought them to the emergency vet any time I believed they needed urgent care. We have always been treated well with utmost kindness and compassion. I find the docs and their assistants to be knowledgeable and on top of the latest treatments and methods. The rehab section is particularly good for after care. Thank you Doctor Hinshaw
I am so appreciative of this compassionate team of caregivers. I have unfortunately needed their services twice, once on Christmas Day and once on a Saturday. They provide extensive and comprehensive care 24 hours a day. They kept me calm and reassured. They treated my dog with true love. They spoke to us in terminology that we understood and educated us so we could keep him healthy going forward. They communicated immediately with his primary care provider so that there was cohesion of care. They called me to follow up on how he was doing and reinforce education provided. Thank you for being there 24 hours a day. It is expensive BUT you are getting an entire hospital for your pet. This is why you should carry pet insurance.
I have used the Vet Emergency services a few times over the years. These people are friendly and professional. They understand that your pet is your baby and will do their best to take care of the whole family. When my Lab, Daisy, was accidently hit on a Saturday afternoon we rushed her to the Vet Emergency hospital. They took care of her immediately and kept her several hours to make sure there were no signs of internal injuries. I was able to take her home Sunday and then they faxed all the documentation to my regular Vet so he was able to see my pet first thing Monday morning. Yes, this is a Emergency Room type atmosphere where they triage their patients so you may have to wait. And unlike "people" hospitals that are reimbursed from insurance and government sources please remember that it is your responsibility to pay for the services rendered. Human physicians do not work for free so don't expect these professionals to work for free. I have no problem pulling out my credit card or pull from my savings to help my furry kids.
incredibly hard hearted people showed no care or concern for animals only money. stay away if you cannot afford over a hundred dollars just to see a vet no willingness to work with anybody no matter how desperate you are to care for your pets. again STAY AWAY!!!!
I couldn’t agree more with all of the bad reviews on here. DO NOT TAKE YOUR PETS HERE!!! We have a little dog that got attacked by another dog five days ago. He wasn’t in horrible shape but had a couple of puncture wounds and we thought it would be best to take him in to see if he needed a couple of stitches. We waited several hours just to get someone to come take a look at him. After we agreed to pay the amount to get him fixed, we waited a couple more hours until we were told to come get him the next morning. Everything somewhat acceptable at this point since it wasn’t a life or death situation at the time. The next morning, we picked him up and he had two pretty substantial incisions with about 10 stitches total. We were told that it was a little worst than it looked so they had to slice him open to repair the damage. We took their word for it, said thank you and we took him home. Fast forward five days, our dog looked ten times worst than what he did when we first took him in. He got up to change positions and I realized that the skin around the stitches was torn from one end of the incision to the other. There was a huge hole in him with blood just seeping out. It must have happened that morning because we didn’t notice anything strange the night before. We immediately took him back and they said that they would not be able to see him without charging us again, and they also wouldn’t be able to stitch him back together without charging us again.... They didn’t even want to take a look at him without our consent for payment. We paid almost $600 the day we took him in. Whatever they did made it so much worse, and then we were expected to pay them to fix what they did. This place is ridiculous. They do not care about anything other than money. Paying them was not the issue, paying them for fixing what they did wrong was the issue. I will never ever take an animal to this hospital again. It would have been better to wait another day to go see our vet. We ended up taking him to our vet where they immediately took him back to clean him up without even asking for a cent. Then they came back with him to show us what it looked like and what it would take to get him fixed up. We didn’t even wait 5 minutes to get him cared for.... not to mention it only cost $235 for the procedure. They had to take the stitches out, cut around the incision to remove the damaged flesh and they stitched him up again. He will be down for a few more days but I’m confident that he will be in much better shape after this. I am very tempted to take legal action on this place... Again, do not send your animals here. They almost killed our dog.
I'm thankful that Wichita has a 24-hour veterinary hospital. I've visited twice with my dogs and the staff is compassionate and knowledgeable. Keep up the great work!
Went it after my baby cat was attacked by a dog. They went above and beyond to help console me and make sure I was ok. I can’t thank you guys and your staff so much. Thanks for the paw print. I will recommend you guys. My family and I really appreciate your compassion and love for animals. I can’t thank you guys enough.
Even before knowing the outcome of of my dog's treatment, I would have given this facility 5 Stars. We felt like Gus was in the best hands possible and they would do everything they could do to keep him alive and content during the process. Amazing Dr., Excellent staff!
My Bogart is suffering from pancreatitis, he spent two nights here and they told me he was much better and come pick him up. When I got him he didn't act like he was feeling good but I thought maybe he was tired. So I took him home and I knew immediately he wasn't feeling good and was in a lot of pain, he was trembling and seemed confused. I paid $1300 for my dog to get better and I feel like I got robbed. Clearly I am upset, I think professionals should be able to see when an animal is in pain. I will have a hard time trusting this place to take care of my pets. I took Bogart to our vet shortly after getting home.
A woman that claim to work in this place name Tosha Lyn Cooper was selling a Keurig coffe maker in her FB when i opened it was fill with dog hair inside very unsanitary and it dint work, even do i ask her before meeting if it work good and she said yes,i believe this is 1 of the vet assistants in this place, i cant imagen what their animal services are like, rip off and dirty?
Jellybean need I say more...u r a bunch of rip off dr
I just called to see if I could get any suggestions on how to treat an animal that is in severe pain and was just told that all they could offer me was a K State hotline. WHAT GOOD DOES THAT DO ME FOR THIS SUFFERING ANIMAL??? All I asked was if there were any ANY over the counter medications that the lady could suggest to me and she told me no. I don't understand why someone would choose a field of work that involves helping suffering animals if they are not willing to give any help what so ever! Thank you Veterinary Emergency and Specialty Hospital of Wichita for letting this animal die in pain and suffering.
As a previous employee, I can say that this is the most compassionate and progressive clinic I have ever worked for. The doctors practice amazing, quality medicine and the technician staff provide excellent, skilled care. I absolutely recommend this hospital for anyone who needs emergency care for their pet and I would also recommend this hospital to anyone who is looking for a progressive, caring, and fun place to work. Thank you Dr. Lofgreen for providing a great hospital for our fury family and for the excellent work environment!
This place only cares about the dollar and not the dog charges crazy outlandish prices at a time of need and won't work with you on a payment plan I've had 2 dogs die because of this place that shouldn't of died this place shouldn't be open for business
This is the second time the vet clinic has saved a member of my family. In 2016 my pug Loretta had pneumonia. If it wasn't for this clinic she would not have made it through the evening. 3 weeks ago our other adorable 9 month black pug Petunia had a ruptured abdomen wall due to a spay surgery. I called ahead. Although the waiting room was full they were ready and expecting LilP. They took her back immediately and triaged her. Within and hour we had a full update and within 2 hours we had seen her said "goodnight" and knew there was no where she would get better care. Yes this vet clinic is expensive but you get exactly what you pay for. Excellent, professional, quality care. I now have them to thank for keeping 2 beloved members of my family safe and healthy. thank you!!!
Dr. Winter is AMAZING!!!! My dog had several years of teeth problems and after several different vets I was referred to Dr. Winters. He is so kind and genuine! It is apparent that he cares deeply for the animals he helps! I can't express how thankful I am for the time he took to explain the procedure and he personally called me to let me know how my dog was doing before and after surgery! I am so thankful for him and his team!!!!!
We came here for our puppy to pay urgent care, apparently the people working here do not care or bother about so called urgent care. I would have rather taken my puppy to seek for his regular Vet next day rather than bringing him for urgent care. Please do not bother coming here, this place is the worst!!! This is not an emergency care, I was told by the receptionist "we are waiting for a room" and it took forever to get one, literally you will be safe to just go to your vet the next day rather than waiting for a room that can take the entire night. Worst care service!
I had a bitter/sweet experience with this place. The front desk staff was very kind but my fiancé and I waited for FOUR HOURS just to get some pain medication for our poor dog. I work in the medical field so I understand having to wait. I also understand that more serious cases are attended to first. But by the time our dog was seen she had had two accidents; bloody diarrhea and bloody vomit. All over their waiting room. And she was constantly shaking...and we STILL had to wait that long. By the end of our visit I was in tears from having to watch my dog suffer and wait that long just to get some relief, while other animals were coming in and going straight back into exam rooms.
Not good service. But being one of the few emergency vets in town, what choice to you have but to put up with them. They do have delicious coffee to enjoy while you wait 2-3 hours for them to give you their laundry list of unnecessary and expensive services for your pet.
Wichita is fortunate to have such a wonderful place to take our fur babies. This place was packed tonight with several tragedies. I've never seen a more dedicated and compassionate staff to all who walked thru the door. Deb who sits up front is the heart of that place and keeps everything flowing. You and your fur baby are in good hands here.
I am not from around this area, as we were visiting family when my puppy became very ill. She was having trouble breathing and I've never been so scared in my life that she wasn't going to make it. The second we walked in the door, we were greeted warmly yet with extreme concern for my puppy. They took her back immediately and performed care IMMEDIATELY, while explaining the cost of each care provided BEFORE they charged us. I advise any and everyone to go here. You will not be disappointed. Thank you for your care for my family and I!
The staff was so kind and caring. The facility was very clean. It so reassuring that I can depend on them for the care for my loving animals. Thank you so much, for all your kindness that you showed to my family. I will spread the word about this wonder clinic to all my friends.
This place is a joke. A complete joke. Brought our dog in vomiting blood and took 2 hours to see anyone. Zero sense of urgency with a dog we thought was poisoned. The staff sat in the back and laughed for an hour while I held the dog I thought was dying. We’re now paying $1100 for nobody to have an actual answer to what’s going on.
Saved my fur baby's life, shouldn't have to say more! We called regularly to check on our dog's status (over 3 days) and they always updated us and answered all our questions. Even after our dog was home, the staff called to check on him and that meant so much. Thank you!
After playing outside for an hour our dog Zero kept collapsing and could not walk straight. So, we immediately took him to the Vet ER. The staff was fantastic and listen to what happened and got us in right away. They were so nice to me and my wife and took such great care of our dog. Thank you guys so much.
I cannot say enough great things about this place. We are so thankful for their quick work and their kindness. Our dog Maggie was in the best hands after a horrific attack. She is now home and we know exactly what her aftercare looks like. We called several times a day and came in to see her and they NEVER once acted like we were a nuisance. We frequently spoke to the vet on the phone and the techs were beyond wonderful. Even the front desk receptionists were incredibly kind. From the bottom of our hearts--thank you. - The Kliewer Family
My personal vet sent me there to see Dr. Winters. My weimaraner was very ill and he done everything in his power to help her. He was honest, upfront, compassionate and I was always informed what was going on and could call and check on her anytime of the day or night. I knew what the cost was before any procedures were done. I will always be thankful for the care she received. The entire staff was helpful and was comforting for what we were going through. A short time after we got our 2nd weimaraner I had to take her in at 11:00 at night and she ended up having Kennel Cough. They got her right in, got her on the medication she needed to be on, and thank goodness she got better! I was so thankful I had a 24 hour Veterinary Emergency Hospital I could take her to. I called before I left, which it took me over an hour to get there from where I live. They were watching for her and was ready when I got there. I would highly recommend Veterinary Emergency & Specialty Hospital of Wichita to anyone who has a sick or hurt animal and need care immediately!
I brought Pee Wee in with a swollen right leg. Staff was awesome, they just loved Pee Wee one staff member sat on the floor and played with him and another came over and kissed him on the head. That made us feel so good. I knew he was in good hands. Pee Wee ia doing well. Thank you
I had to take my 15 year old dauchshund Trixie in on Sunday. I called and told them what was wrong and they said to bring her in. When we arrived they were ready for us and took us to a room. After answering a few questions she took Trixie back to check her out. We knew Trixie was bad and the vet came in and confirmed our suppisions. They were very kind and understanding and informed us to take as long as we needed. When we were ready the vet came in and administered a setitive and the final shot and she stayed with us until Trixie was at rest. The vet said to stay with Trixie as long as we wanted to and come to front desk when we were ready. Yesterday I received a very nice condolences card from them which I thought was so nice. I know they are higher priced then a normal vet but they are open on Sunday and I didn't have to make Trixie suffer anymore. Very nice and kind people. Thank you for being there
On June 1-2018 we brought our 17+ year old Micki Blue eyes to your clinic after he collapsed in our yard. We were amazed at your caring attention, compassion and kindness. Dr Lofgreen and staff are the best. Micki is now at Rainbow Bridge running free. Thank you for the paw print and verse. Jon & Sandra Flinn
Good and bad. Guess depending on what time you need their help is how nice they are. I was treated good. They helped my puppy even though I did not have the full payment , yet my friends dog needs a life saving surgery and they just turned there backs because they didn't have the payment.
This is honestly one of the WORST pet hospitals around. Being a 24 hour emergency vet clinic should NOT only offer care for cats and dogs, especially when you are the only 24 hour vet in Wichita!! And the woman who answers the phone very obviously has no concern for your pet even if you are calling because it's an EMERGENCY at the EMERGENCY VET CLINIC. You can't even offer advice on how to help my pet? You can't even take a look and see if you can tell me what's wrong with him? Just so he doesn't DIE??? If I could give this 0 stars I would, and if I could fire the woman working the front desk tonight - I would. So thanks for being absolutely useless in the one reason you're open - 24 HOUR EMERGENCY PET CARE
The caring doctors and staff saved my furry best friend from chocolate poisoning this week. They made me feel at ease in a scary situation, and that's incredibly special. Jeffers and I say thank you from the bottom of our hearts!
I had to come here at 1am for a 7-week-old puppy in respiratory failure who was also suffering from PDA. While I was hoping to go home with the puppy, the doctor recommended euthanasia. Everyone here was so compassionate. The doctor even looked like she was about to cry when she gave me the news. She told me I could allow her to treat the puppy, but her quality of life was not going to be good and there was no guarantee that treatment would help for very long. This puppy hadn't been breathing for quite a while, but was still fighting and still alive. They provided her oxygen so that she wasn't struggling to breathe in her final moments and allowed me to be in the room holding her paw as the euthanasia medication was administered. I have had horrible experiences with emergency vets in the past just wanting to get as much money out of me as possible. This experience was completely different. Everyone from the doctors to the receptionist genuinely cared about this puppy and wanted to do everything they could to make her comfortable. I will recommend this emergency vet to anyone who may need their services. This was the hardest thing I've ever had to watch and go through, and the entire staff knew that. I was very impressed and touched by their compassion during such a difficult time.
Both we (the humans) and our dog were treated with care and professionalism. We were there during a busy time, but the staff worked efficiently to prioritize patient needs. We were even offered snacks while waiting.
I had a potential emergency when my dog ingested OTC medicine at midnight on a weekday. I called these guys and they answered their phone within two rings, were very polite and professional. The tech answered my questions and put me on hold a couple times to consult the vet. They were very professional in letting me know there should be no issues with my pup and to keep an eye out for any side-effects. No need to bring her in. It's really great to have a 24-hour resource for pet medical care!
Caring and compassionate. They showed my kitty his stuffed animal for comfort.
I can not say enough good about this Animal Hospital!!! I took my Puppy in to be treated for a very serious illness. The other so called Vet left my Goldendoodle to die! As a last resort, I took Barley to the Emergency Hospital were he spent 5 days he was in bad shape when he was taken in... Their service is as good if not better than a hospital for Humans!!! I truly mean that!! They care whether your animal lives or dies!
Our first experience with this hospital in 2014 was made the best it could be. Dr Narocki did all he could for us and our baby boy. Stayed late, did research...everything. Unfortunately he couldn't be saved. It was not a good time but he did all he could for everyone involved. He showed genuine compassion and you could feel he was there for the right reasons. The second visit where we lost our baby girl last week was not a similar experience. What can I say- people go here in times of crisis. Visits here are stressful, unexpected and expensive...so no one gives this place enough credit for the good things they do. Myself included. I try to be fair. So I'm going to do that. The techs are wonderful, the management staff is thorough and kind. Both times my dogs received good care...that being said Dr. Pratt needs some serious training in compassionate care, communication and honestly she needs to be a farm vet. Very cold and rude. Not a vet that deals with loving parents fur babies" Just not a good fit. Will I return to this clinic? Absolutely. However Dr Pratt will never touch one of my animals again.
We had to make a visit today because our dog tripped and sprained his wrist while playing (no, not the most graceful boy). While, yes, the fee is $100 just to be seen (which, lets be honest, is understandable considering that they're open all of the time); the rest of the visit was reasonably priced (nothing more than it would have cost for our regular vet visit) and the staff was friendly and knowledgeable and good with our dog. We did have to wait a bit, but there were other animals in with more urgent needs than ours and even so the wait wasn't nearly as bad as going to the ER as a human. All in all, if I had an emergency again and my regular vet wasn't open I'd be likely to return.
Our new puppy became ill with Pravo. Thanks to the deticated staff at emergency and specialty the puppy is eating, drinking, and playing with the older dog. It was definitely a life or death situation. They worked with me in regard to my meager buget and helped me help my puppy. Lil Fin and his family are forever grateful for the wonderful vets and support staff at emergency and specialty.
They take care of your pet but like everyone said RIP off!! All they care about is money!!! And your pet will most likely die! I seriously can't pay it all in once 1,200 And they made me sgin a check I have two weeks to come up with the money!! They are money crazy!!
I woke up to my cat meowing really loud around 4 in the morning and he could not use his back legs. My wife call the ER and they got us right in when we got there. I was low on money and they needed to put my cat is very high care but the doctor stop everything and told me that there is an blood clot in his back and there is nothing that they could do and the fact that he had heart frailer he would of not survived. I had to make the toughest call to put my wife's cat down and they let us see him one more time and they were nice and caring for my little boy. and they help me on the payment. thank you so much guys for being there when everyone else was close.
Had to bring my cat here who couldn't pee on his own. The staff and doctors were wonderful and caring. We appreciate that there is a place where we can go on weekends when our pets are in such pain. Thank you and thanks to the reception staff (Beth and Deb?) who kept us in coffee and snacks. That just doesn't happen everywhere.
Took our dog to this clinic to seek medical help and soon found out that all they cared about was getting their money and basically stole our dog from by refusing to give him back to go some where that would help us more financially since we didn't have five grand in our pocket that day. I would never go here again no matter what find else where to take your beloved animal if you want to keep them.
Will definitely never come here again. Service was terrible and staff was rude. They did absolutely nothing for my dying dog but send us out the door do to money issues. Cannot believe it smh
Ive been here earlier today to get a growth that had busted looked at and all they did was bandage it until a vet can look at it the next day and the bandage came off almost immediately and now I’m sitting here covered in his blood along with him and their floor. We have been here since 7 and he’s still bleeding. This will be the second time I’m writing this because the first one got deleted.
Horrible service, waiting for over 4 hours to just get a estimate of the cost to fix my cat. I left, asked them to call me with an estimate after waiting 3 hours and no one else in the waiting area. I ended up calling them asking for the cost, the high end would have been $1300 to stitch a laceration, antibiotics and sedation. Being a vet tech, we do ACL repairs for $1600. I ended up getting her a pain shot and taking her to my vet the next morning. She was able to get surgery to fix the wounds and it cost me $427. If your animal is NOT near death and can wait until the morning, I would suggest that, do not put yourself in debt because they are money greedy! Terrible service, I was very agitated after 4.5 hours of waiting for someone to give me answers, even a simple estimate. I know it is hard for your staff to have a tiny bit of sympathy when we get there and my cat has a couple of holes in her chest and I am there with my 3 young kids. I got not answers and they did absolutely nothing but give her a shot. I never saw a doctor, a tech literally put her in a cage and she sat until I called at 11:18 PM asking what the cost was. Will never recommend or ever go here again! So basically I paid $130 to be told to help my cat it would be $1300. Do not go here!
Had the worst clinical experience here the people barley noticed we were there they took 5 hours to come out and say that they didn't know what was going on they were friendly but that didn't make up for the fact that there was nobody in the clinic and it took us 5 hours to get out just to have no result. Not a place to come if your pet is in need of immediate medical attention they barley knew what to say to us. And they charged us quite a bit It seemed like they weren't actually trying to help us they were just trying to drain our money they wanted to do everything to my pup even though most of it was irrelevant we took him home and we got charged for them to say absolutely nothing to us.DO NOT COME HERE WORST VET CLINIC.
Took really great care of the animals. Dr Holly Smith and her surgical staff are fantastic!
The most amazing people you will meet!! Took excellent care of our puppy Khaleesi and went out of their way for our family... Thanks so much!!!
We found out that our family dog ate some grapes at 11:30pm. Our regular vet's office was closed so we called this vet. The person on the phone was very helpful and knowledgeable. We were able to save our dog's life by following the instructions over the phone. Since we did not physically visit the vet, we did not pay anything, but we will be visiting the office to offer our payment and thanks. Every pet owner in Wichita area should be glad that we have a 24-hour vet in town.
Have always handled my pets with care. So thankful we have a 24 hour vet office. The people here are great to work with!
This hospital is SO over the top excellent with care for your pet. By far the best communication from the vets themselves and while it can be expensive, I never once felt as though I was having unnecessary services or being charged in excess. the entire staff are as caring with the humans as they are with your pets. If your pet is in critical state they are taken back immediately for car and you are provided instant information even with a wait. I highly recommend and only wish all vets in Kansas had this level of care. many thanks to all the great people at this hospital.
5 star! Few things in this world are 5 star and few things in this world mean more to us then our 2 year old, miniature schnauzer, named Chaco. Unfortunately, Chaco got into some gum that contained xylitol late at night. We are so thankful for the care he received at this emergency clinic! They kept us updated throughout the evening and following day! I don't want to imagine what might have happened had we not rushed Chaco there. All I know is he is here happy and healthy. Thank you technicians and doctors who cared for our sweet boy. He's our everything ❤️
Staff is very rude did not help me at all
This place is incompetent and in it for the money. I have lost 3 pets at the hands of their uncaring incompetence. Wichita vets need to band together and take turns staying open so that our beloved pets have the care they need. .
There is a lot of bad reviews for this place, but i think that people need to understand that it is a hospital the. The wait time will be longer and the prices are going to be more expensive. Just like if we opt to go to the hospital rather then wait to get an appointment with a doctor. The staff are very friendly. Dr. Smith was the DMV that helped our puppy. I have nothing but good to say, our puppy survived a hit and run that could have been tragic. If I had to complain about ANY thing, the seats are uncomfortable.
I had previously posted a bad review, but the issue I had was corrected. They were friendly and were able to diagnose my cat's strange behavior. The cost was higher than a regular visit, but that is to be expected at an emergency facility with round the clock care. If my pets ever need emergency help, I am glad they are here!
I've unfortunately had to come here twice, and I only say unfortunately bec my pups weren't feeling good, and as a pet owner that's no fun. However, I couldn't ask for better service or friendlier faces. Up front, they tried to relate to me and what I was dealing with to make me feel better while they worked their magic in the back to make my pup feel better. P.s. Don't feed your dog steak fat!
i called about a puppy breaking off a baby canine and they had me on hold for 15 minutes right off the get go then answer the phone tell me nothing put me on hold again for 10 more minutes finally answer the ni ask if i could wait till monday to bring her to her regular vet or is it a bad enuff thing to bring her in now all i get was we cant tell you nothing but we can tell you the exam alone is 120 dollars i wouldnt recommend these guys to a single soul only care about the money not the actual health of the pet i was so mad
Took my dog here and they said he was going to be fine and then to take him to my vet the next morning to be put on medication. Picked him up the next morning, took him to my vet, and they had to out him down due to heart failure. They are sooooooo expensive. Just to put him on meds and give him treatment was going to be several thousand dollars!!!
My puppy was hit by car, took him to er vet. I paid $300 upfront, only for them to tell me they would 1800.00 more to just look at him. We didnt have anything else to pay at time, so they took our $300 and didnt do anything for our puppy, except send him home with pain meds and no answer. Took him to a different vet today and they fixed him and did surgrey for $600.
Just a few nights ago I found that my hamster had suddenly passed away. My roommate suggested calling this hospital, and after a few minutes of holding, received caring and specific information for us. They allowed us to bring my baby girl to their location (despite it being close to 9:30 at night on a Saturday). The woman that helped us was very kind and understanding and made sure we understood our options in terms of cremation and handling of remains. Definitely made an impossible night a little more manageable.
Fabulous care by all the staff and they were so understanding as we put our 16 year old dog down. Treated with such respect! Several years ago when we needed to put down a different dog, we left with her in a trash bag (we buried her ourselves), Veterinary Emergency & specialty Hospital had a wonderful cardboard box to take our pet home in and put her to rest -- it's the little things like that -- you know others care for your pet as well! thank you so much!
Thor got his paw ran over by a hit and run and these amazing ladies were able to take excellent care of him for us and we did not have to amputate his paw
I was here last night and into this morning for an issue with my cat. From the moment I walked in the entire staff took amazing care of both my pet and of me. They made sure I understood everything that they were doing and the finances that would be involved. They allowed me to come home and get some sleep and pick my boy up in the morning with no additional cost. Having met a couple of the vet techs and the veterinarian who was handling my cats care I felt very relieved and was able to get a great night of sleep knowing that he was receiving wonderful care. I cannot recommend this facility enough!
Compassionate and caring. So thankful Wichita has this service!
I will never recommend this place Staffs are rude. Its all about MONEY. If you really love your pet and your wallet PLEASE AVOID THIS PLACE. theres more other option and vet dr with compassion.
since i am not able to reply to the response left on my review, you need to retrain your staff! my dog was suffering from septic shock! she did NOT walk in i carried her in!!! she almost died at our vets office because she went so long with out treatment! waited several hours the other night and was never seen by Dr! came in at 10pm and left at 2:45 with out treatment, thank god our regular vet was open just a few short hours later.... others had same problem that night as well....its sad this is the only place in town for after hours emergency, the place is poorly managed and under staffed!
money suckers! they charge so much just because they are an emergency clinic, opportunistic and unreasonable with their fees and charges! they will charge three time more than a regular vet just because they are open after hours, just hope you will never need them!
From the moment we walked in the door the staff took great care of us and our precious pup Emma. We walked in terrified and they took our concerns to heart and were very reassuring. Emma recieved great care, Dr Schroeder was very compassionate with Emma and thorough in her explanation of care and at home instructions. Thanks to VES our baby girl will be ok and we know exactly what she will need for aftercare. Like any ER there is a bit of a wait, obviously the most critical patients are cared for first. However, you can be confident your pet is getting top notch care. The staff does all they can to make the wait as comfortable as possible and is good about communicating information. THANK YOU Veterinary Emergency & Specialty Hospital of Wichita, we are so grateful.
I have been here with my dog for three and a half hours. I have been sitting in an exam room with my dog for the last hour and fifteen minutes waiting for the xrays to be read that was going to take 30 minutes to read. Literally no one had even stuck there head in the room to even give me an update on whats taking extra time (that would be nice). Im sitting in the exam room writing this, and I might still be sitting in the exam room when you read this...
My daughter's kitten was suffering from toxicity. I took her to my normal veterinarian not realizing what she was suffering from as I hadn't seen her get into anything poisonous. When he told me what was wrong with her and that we would need to take her here, I was skeptical. The veterinarian that examined her was extremely quick with both her diagnosis and with deciding the best treatment option. Before we said yes or no, she gave us a detailed estimate. Being as it was my daughter's kitten and something that I knew we couldn't treat at home, my husband and I bit the bullet and put her in for treatment. She was ready to go home the next day. When we came to pick her back up, the front staff remembered exactly who we were and who our pet was. I was shocked with that alone because of how busy the clinic is. They made sure to get as much ready as they could so we weren't waiting too long. I was further shocked that the bill came out to be on the low end of the estimate. Yes, the bill was high, but for the treatment that she received I know that we paid a reasonable amount. Rosie was happy to be home that night and has been her playful self since. I was worried when we first picked her up but by day two of her being home all signs of toxicity is gone. I only wish that the veterinarian we saw had her own clinic so that we could use her for all of our veterinary needs. I will be taking our animals there with future emergencies.
I had to put my dog down sunday. The staff was the best. Very compassionate group of lady's. Yeah it mite cost a little more but go to the best....
This hospital is great! I brought my dog in for a reaction she had to a vaccination and the staff was so kind and friendly!

We just took our little dachshund there this weekend. Dr. Pratt was a joy. We had been working with our regular vet to determine why Jazz was just not being herself. Unfortunately she started having a very hard time of things over the weekend and our regular vet is closed on Saturday. She got right in and she was given the meds she needed. Fixed her right up. She is back to her old self...eating, barking, sleeping on my lap, etc. I think what I was most impressed with is that Dr. Pratt listened to us and read over the paperwork that we had brought in from our regular vet. She could have ordered more tests and blood work but she didn't. She listened, read the paperwork and prescribed exactly what my little Jazz needed. We have used them on several occasions. The techs have always been wonderful and Dr. Pratt, Dr. Hinshaw and the others have always been spot on with their treatments. We are so lucky to have a service like this in our community. Thank you again!
