We're glad that our adoption center pointed us towards this vet. We've gone years without having the same vet due to them trying to constantly sell us something. Mariposa doesn't even push annual shots. They'll take a blood test to see if previous shots have built up an immunity.

Great place! Took my new kitten, Miss Tash, there for her first round of shots. The vet techs and veterinarian were personable, polite, and helpful. Might have been that Tash is just to dang cute... Clean facilities and rooms, far from the usual feel of a doctor's office. After the shot, they helped to set up a plan for the rest of her vaccinations, boosters, and getting her fixed. I think Tash also liked everything too. Highly recommend!

Good service, friendly, but quite expensive. Took our two pets for annual physicals and vaccines. They recommended Titers instead of vaccines for our dog, which was probably in hindsight more stressful to the dog as instead of a quick shot they did a blood draw. All in all was over $300 - just 2 physicals + current on vacinations. $80 alone for the Titers. Took dog in alone for stomach issues prior to this, and after prescribing meds and diagnosis was out $130.

Meh *Edited 8/28/19* I have revised my opinion and dropped the rating to two stars. While I chose not to bring my cats into the "wellness center" I did bring in my dogs. My wife had made the arrangements and seeing as she still has her maiden name I assume it was attached to her profile. Dr. Runnels was great, emphatic and concise. The problems arose when we could not see that Doctor. Instead we saw Dr. Lu who was very distracted during our visit which made us feel like we were not valued as much as the other things going on as she consistently entered and left the room for other things. Dr. Dodson was rude and condescending in our last visit and after three attempts and an inconsistent experience we moved to Country Hill where Dr. Godsey takes great care of our 4 animals! I adopted two beautiful kittens from Kitty City Kansas (Great place BTW) and they include a free check up from Mariposa. Upon learning that Country Hill would honor that... I promptly canceled my appointment and moved it over to the vet we have had consistent great experiences at. Meh was not fair feedback to you and I do hope that this clarifies the experience shared by my wife and I as well it justifies the rating.

Mariposa is top notch and I highly recommend them. I started taking my cats Luna and Carbon here because we received a voucher for a wellness visit from the shelter where we adopted our first cat and have been nothing but impressed ever since. Their staff is truly caring and has exceptional customer service skills - Susan is fantastic, as is every other customer service representative I've interacted with. Every time I've left a voicemail after hours they've returned it early the next morning. Any time my cats have needed care urgently they have been able to squeeze me in and let me drop them off for evaluation. Their practice is also very cat friendly - they get cats into rooms quickly, are good at handling cats and understand their unique needs. Their doctors have a wealth of knowledge and expertise, and focus on addressing root cause issues rather than simply treating symptoms. They also call to follow up on how my cats are doing after they come in for any issue that isn't routine. Most recently, an emergency vet recommended my cat Carbon needed a catheter to address a urinary blockage. They indicated that the situation wasn't so emergent that I couldn't wait until morning to take him to Mariposa for evaluation. When I did, they were able to identify that he wasn't fully blocked, did not need a catheter but needed fluids and medication. My cat is recovering quite well now and I'm grateful that we were able to avoid both the pain and expense of inserting a catheter. I have worked with Dr. Runnels, Dr. Lu and Dr. Carrier and they are each fantastic. This is a top notch practice that I cannot recommend more. Thank you!

It's a wonderful veterinary clinic. The waiting room looks amazing. They had a cat just chilling with the staff. I got to pet the cat. What I like most is that they take small pets like rodents. They even see degus! I took my degu in and I was so worried about him and depressed about what could be wrong with him but the vet took care of him and made it easy. She was very nice and helpful.

This vets office is amazing. I came here after having a really negative experience at a different vet off of 75th. The office itself is lovely, calming, clean, and it’s clear from the moment you walk in the love they have for animals. My sweet boys prognosis was not good, but they made me feel like we were trying every possible avenue to get him better, from traditional medicine to Chinese herbs and CBD oil. Ultimately, my dog reached a point where we knew the right thing to do was let him go, which was devastating. The vet made me feel comfortable with the process, ensured he was not in pain, and went out of her way to console us. They even let me wait for my mom to get there to say goodbye. They gave the process dignity and made me feel like my grief and heartbreak was valid. As long as I live in KC area I’ll never go to another vet, the quality of my experience there has made me a patron for life. Thank you so much Mariposa for your kindness during this really difficult time. ❤️

Fantastic! I have two dogs, both have allergies. One was new to our home when I went to Mariposa for the first time. She had chronic vomiting. I had exhausted all of the resources of my previous vet. They were at the point of putting her on continuous medication and doing a scope. I was wondering if it was allergies, but my old vet didn't think so. I found Mariposa searching for a vet who did a silver allergy test. I AM SO GLAD I DID! The did the test, found her allergies, helped me develop a recipe to make her food, and she is all better! Some of the testing and rates can seem high, but they are not. They are totally worth it, especially compared to going back over and over again to another vet with no solution in sight.

I've been taking two of my dogs to this clinic for several years. They are thorough and provide a variety of options for care. My dogs have had a dental here, been there for ear infections, and regular check ups and they do a wonderful job. The prices are slightly higher than other vet clinics for certain things but it's nearly negligible considering how thorough they are and how well they take care of your pets. It's worth it. It's always clean and the front desk staff are very friendly and will work with you on scheduling like no other clinic I've taken my dogs to. Truly a wonderful place!

I adopted a dog last year and have had the best luck with this vet. The staff is always so kind to me and my dog. They always remember us. Dr. Carrier is our vet and saved our dogs life last week. He was so thorough and amazing. He continued to check on him after the surgery and I wouldnt recommend anywhere else. Ive never had a dog love to go to the vet, but mine does now, even after having major surgery. I highly recommend this place!!! If you can work with susan and Dr carrier I would!!!!

Originally took my hamster in for a checkup for a wound on her back. I saw Dr. Carrier who was really friendly and was able to provide some good info and check her out well. I had a pretty long wait even though I made my appointment on time, but the whole staff was really friendly, and told me a not so nice cat was causing a delay. So I appreciated the update. However, I brought my newest addition, which was a 4 year old rescue crested gecko in for a check up and was a little disappointed. For someone who is supposed to be an exotic vet, he did not have very much knowledge on geckos. I asked what a healthy weight was for a male and female gecko, and he stated he did not know, he just looked at them and could tell if they "looked okay". I asked how much weight they should gain as juveniles so I could track her growth and the growth of my other 2 geckos, he said he didn't know. He tried to look in my geckos mouth and of course she didn't like that; he had a pretty hard time. After several tries he said everything in her mouth "looked okay", but there was no way he got a good look as she snapped her mouth shut too fast. He mentioned nothing about the calcium sacs in her mouth, which I was waiting for him to do since I know that's how you are able to check if geckos are getting enough calcium; that's how I know he did know look into her mouth properly. He asked what I fed my geckos and I listed the 2 most common food brands, he didn't know anything about them. They have different folders for different animals, that have basic care info. I was previously given one at my last visit because I mentioned I had just adopted a gecko. The doctor kept referring to it, but really did not provide any other info except for what was written in the folder...that I was previously given and had looked over. I payed $54 for a visit that did not provide much info and left me with unanswered questions. I ended up learning more about weight, growth and juvenile gecko care on Google on my own than I did at the office with a vet. I was really excited to find an exotic vet as I would like to breed geckos down the road, but I'm afraid my hatch-lings would be unable to get adequate care at this facility as due to lack of knowledge on geckos. My cat's vet is able to tell me what a healthy weight is for felines, I would expect a simple question like that to be answered by an exotic vet too. Everyone is really nice, no complaints on that. But I will not be bringing my other 2 geckos in.

I have been taking my 13 year old Jack Russell Terrier to this wellness center for about four months now. My dog sees Dr. Shelia Dodson. When I first brought her in, she was having difficulty walking due to luxating patellas and a possible torn ACL. All of these were brought on by weight issues from chronic Prednisone usage for allergies and the negative side effects the drug can cause (e.g. tendons weakening). Dr. Dodson recommended feeding my dog canned food only that was grain free, and this has helped her allergies to the point that she is taking less Prednisone now, but she has also lost about 3.5 pounds since her first visit. She'd probably lose more if she went completely off of it, but I don't know how realistic that is with all of her other allergies as well (e.g. pollen). She also takes Si Miao San, a Chinese herb, for her allergies, and this has seemed to help more than hydroxyzine. In addition, I have been getting her Adequan shots and giving her Dasuquin w/ MSM, and she is now getting around so well that she can climb stairs. All without surgery. Moreover, their office is very competitive on pricing for supplements, shots, etc. I'm actually paying a less now than I was at my previous vet. I'm really grateful for that considering how much treatments have been lately. Finally, everyone in the office is extremely friendly. I especially love Cindy, the vet tech that routinely gives my dog her shots. She always rubs my dog's little Buddha belly and kisses on her after she administers her shot. Very rare for a vet tech to be that loving to a dog. Mariposa has a real gem there.

Im sure this is a rare situation but I brought my injured chicken in to see what could be done to maybe fix her leg or get ideas on ways I could help her get around. $54 later i'm told there was nothing they could do for me and I needed to consider rehoming her. I was shocked honestly because if I thought I needed to rehome her I would have done so a long time ago. On top of this I was told my 6ftx6ft area was not big enough or clean enough for my flock. I didn't come in to be told I wasnt doing enough, I came in for HELP like everyone else. Safe to say I will NOT be visiting this "Vet" again.

I cannot believe I haven't given Mariposa the props they deserve yet...I've been going there about a year and a half now. From the vet that I see, the techs, and even the other vets (can't always get into mine) I have never in my 20 years of having pets had such a great experience with a vet. They truly care, and it shows when they are with your pet and in the follow up they do. Past vets I've seen it was really just lip service, a business transaction. Not Mariposa. Another great thing is most (not all, if it's not your thing) are a mix of eastern and western medicine. So it isn't always "let's give them a drug, and another drug to fix what that one caused" etc. They want to get to the cause, the why, instead of fixing symptoms with a pill or a shot. Never experienced this with any other vet. I truly adore the folks there and will not go anywhere else.

The veterinarians here are kind and caring, and will happily explore options to improve quality of life that other vets may not offer. Acupuncture, ozone therapy, and herbal medicine to name a few. They also offer to do a titer rather than going straight to a vaccine to check if it is needed. LOVE Mariposa!

This is the only vet office I will ever go to again. I've had a lot of bad experiences with other vets in the Kansas City area. I have high expectations for veterinarian care, but Mariposa exceeded all of them. Do yourself a favor and read the reviews on yelp and Facebook. If your pet is your family, this is where you want them to go. Dr. Lu and Dr. Burcham have been great. The staff is also awesome. Techs and receptionists that are knowledgeable and equally helpful. Couldn't be happier with the high quality of care at a reasonable cost.

Awesome place. Clearly not receiving any benefits or sponsorships from the major pet food brands, these vets know real pet nutrition and work to treat causes not symptoms. Ask your regular vet about a better diet, or even going raw and they'll suggest Science Diet or Purina. Raw will scare them. Ask Mariposa and they'll explain all of the benefits of avoiding the big box brands and TEACH you all about a raw diet. Great people and worth our long drive.

I am heartbroken, my dad and step mom brought in their beautiful Vizsla Sammy into this vet because he was DRASTICALLY losing weight Like scary fast loosing weight. They drew blood and checked his fectal... Normal vet procedures. They just said he had an infection of some sort and sent him home with meds... They came in a second time because meds wernt helping and yet more weight lost. He is skin and bones now. Few other family members them to get another opinion. They went to eagle animal is is a wonderful vet on the Missouri side. They did xrays sense his lungs sounded horrible. Not only did you misdiagnosed this beautiful baby... You completely missed the MASS of cancer in his lung. Our beautiful boy is dying... DYING. a dog doesn't drop a pound in less then a week over a infection. Please do better so the next family doesn't deal with this blow. Sweet boy will be LOVED and cuddled tell his last day
