We drive from Pittsburg to bring our Labrador mix to Girard Animal Hospital even though there are plenty of other choices in our area. My husband and I choose Girard Animal Hospital because we appreciate the patient, respectful way that they handle our family member. The whole staff is great about explaining any issues, how we can have an active role in treatment at home, and if there are any steps we can take that will prevent or reduce any future instances of a situation. They don't try to sell us expensive products when budget-friendly options will do the same job. We have boarded her here a few times over the years. We've always found her to be happy, healthy and well cared for when we pick her up. These fine folks will always be our first choice for animal care, and we recommend them to our friends whenever we can.

The Girard Animal Hospital is a great place to take your pets. The staff are friendly and always quick to assist you with your pets needs. The cost of services are cheaper than most other animal clinics and they still provide the same quality of professionalism and care toward my pets. When I first walked in I noticed the place was rather small then I looked around and saw kittens in a kennel and an adult cat lying on a bench and I instantly felt at home. I love animals. I love my animals and want the best of care for them at a reasonable price. That's why I take them to the Girard Animal Hospital.

My wife and I have been customers for over 10 years now. They have always greeted us with a smile and provided friendly/professional services. Although they have only treated our dogs it has always been economical. Even tho they take walk-ins, I would suggest calling in advance just to let them know what your pets needs are. Because they are so busy they seem to be never to busy to help. Just an awesome piece of mind to know that they care.

Awesome service and care! The vet stayed late for us, didnt charge an outrageous fee for this and treated our boy great! We have a 80lb GSD and even when he growled at her (because he was in extreme pain) it didnt phase her at all and she only showed compassion to him. We will drive 45min to use them as our regular vet from now on!

Girard Animal Hospital is a highly commendable veterinarian clinic. They do not take appointments, except for grooming, and yet they can move through the line forming at their door with ease. I was pleasantly surprised that I was able to have my cat seen for her yearly exam and her shots done for less than $50. We've never been to a vet with better service or pricing. Thank you to everyone working here to make a difference.

This office has saved the lives of several of my pets in years past. I would have recommended them to anyone. I don't know what changed. I wish I had known then what I know now about this place. I brought in a cat at the end of May with various alarming symptoms and was told he was dehydrated, had allergies and arthritis. He was given a blood test. This will be important later. His treatment consisted of a single combo steroid and antibiotic injection. The diagnosis didn't sound right to me but the vet was so confident and matter-of-fact that I believed it. Expecting his treatment to be expensive due to the myriad of symptoms, I had requested a payment plan before care, as there is a sign in the office advising customers to do so if necessary. This may have been the kiss of death for my cat. However, I instead decided to pay the bill in full on the spot, and was so grateful that he would be okay. This turned out to be a waste of money. He was sent home with what was, I later learned from a vet who listened and actually cared, a highly elevated white cell count and severe infection still festering in his body. His symptoms never fully subsided but after a few days they returned worse than ever. After a little over a week of this, I called Girard Animal Hospital and was told I could bring him back in. The people running the office make no disguise of their distaste when they don't want to treat your pet, but you hope they'll do their jobs anyway. Despite his suffering and symptoms that wildly differed from his treatment this time, a mere steroid shot for arthritis, he was sent home again. Still with the infection heavily impairing his bodily functions and mobility. No mention of infection at all, and I was given instructions to bring him in every few weeks as necessary for steroid shots for the "arthritis." Once again, I had requested a payment plan beforehand, expecting something expensive to treat the horrific symptoms my cat was experiencing. This time his "treatment" was even less expensive than last time. I paid it in full. Yet again a waste of money. He was sent home, the untreated infection beginning to ravage his bloodstream and central nervous system at this point. Another few weeks pass and this poor cat is swollen and barely eating. I have realized that the Girard Animal Hospital has failed him and will absolutely allow him to suffer and die at this point. I take him to a different vet. Within 5 minutes the vet says they suspect it was a bacterial infection all along. They keep him for most of the day. They run blood tests. By the end of the day, he's given 2 different antibiotics to bring home with him, 2 shots, and had to have fluid drained off of his body. I pay them in full, the same as I did with Girard Animal Hospital both times. The new vet worries the infection may have lingered too long untreated for the antibiotics to work and keep my cat alive. Less than a week later, the vet turns out to be right. My cat isn't going to survive. He'll likely pass today or tonight. So, I learned a lesson. When you feel like your concerns for your pet are being brushed off, get a second opinion. Soon. If you go to Girard Animal Hospital, maybe bring someone along who fits a certain visual profile that they obviously prefer. And most importantly: ignore the sign that says they have options for a payment plan. All it does is tip them off on which pets they can get away with misdiagnosing. Your pet will not be treated properly if you take that sign at face value. Unless you're someone they've arbitrarily decided meets their criteria of a trustworthy customer, they will let your pet die. They will pretend that they don't see symptoms that could kill an animal or even a person. To them it says "Ignore: Will Not Pay." I would recommend a different vet altogether, even if you *do* pay Girard Animal Hospital an expensive bill in full that day. This place has lost its heart. And now my family is losing our much beloved cat, who deserved so much better than the negligent "treatment" he received here.

I was disappointed with the care I received Friday. First of all I called for an appt. To get shots for my dog and was told I didn't need one, I just needed to come not during lunch hour. I waited until one to get there. There was one gentleman ahead of me but by the time I was called back the small waiting room had filled up. I was not met by Dr Laura or Dr Kristol but someone else. Not sure but it might have been a tech. She gave the shot. Didnt tell me what it was. I asked about what I should use for Flea medicine since my pup is hairless. She said a pill. I assumed she was getting it and going to bring it back to me. Oh she went to get it and yelled at me to come out of the exam room.didn't tell me what the pill was. I trusted the medicine given because it was gah but the person who helped me never introduced herself or explained what was what and did not smile one time. I got in and out quickly but was very disappointed with the care..I am supposed to take my pup back in a month but I am very undecided

Had been a long term customer of GAH and when we found that our 6 year old lab mix was sick we went to see them. It was a Saturday (10/21) morning, we had to wait about 30 minutes to be seen. Once we were finally brought back into the room, the exam only took about 5 minutes. We were told, "well she is not dying" and "give her this medicine and come back Monday morning if she is not better." Well, unfortunately, she rapidly deteriorated through the rest of Saturday, doing exactly what the medicine was supposed to prevent ,and into Sunday when we decided to take her to the ER Vet in Joplin. We then found out that she was in fact dying and only had short time. We were forced to make the awful decision of having to put down our fur-baby. Overall I feel that we were rushed through our appointment at GAH and blown off so that they could close up early on Saturday. They certainly did not help our dog. Needless to say, we will NEVER return to GAH.

Unfortunately my experience wasn't as pleasant as the other ratings. New mom to two puppies who had just been vaccinated and were sickly. I know a full checkup is necessary in getting a new animal and so I went there. The floors were in a unbelievable shape which made me afraid for what else they could get. They checked for worms. Yes worms. Got meds out the door. The resting face and bedside manor of the veterinarian lady was less than friendly and other than wormy I have zero idea of the health of my dogs.

This hospital saw my cats and did not charge an arm and a leg. Although I wasn't too happy with the vet who said my cats did not have fleas. I have 2 black cats and one tuxedo cat and if it wasn't for my tuxedo cat and showing her the fleas in her white fur, my cats would not have been helped. She prescribed advantage 2 so now instead of taking mt cats to be seen by a vet and told the same thing, I just put advantage 2 on my cats once a month.

Both Bill and Laura are wonderful, caring people. And their staff is too! My only regret is not getting a job there when I was a kid so I could have learned even more. Sent my fur baby home after 1 day on fluids kidney failure possible parvo. She appeared better but not ready for home. 2 Hours later I took her back there and the nurse told me they sent my baby home for financial reasons. They were afraid we couldn't pay for her.. (they assumed didn't ask) so when I drove her all the way back she had to be resesitated and ended up dieing there my family was devistated.
