We have had everything from his microchip to regular care done. Everyone is very friendly and professional. They are so well organized, we even pay for services right in the exam room. I took Fred, my Labradinger, in for his check up and get his shots updated so he could attend dog day care. These folks have helped Neal and I with Fred's adoption and care since we adopted him 1 year ago. We saw Dr. Gearhart this time. Fred has had issues with allergies since we adopted him, lots of gastrointestinal problems, not to mention some anxiety issues from his former home. We make frequent trips to Minnesota, so keeping Fred treated for fleas and tick bites is a must. This time his eyes were mattering terrible from his allergies. Dr. Gearhart suggested an herbal treatment that we have used for just 2 days and the mattering is gone! The gastrointestinal issue is almost resolved and they help me keep a watchful eye on any issues by sending me reminders. The whole office staff love Fred up every time we take him in. Fred doesn't mind going in because he gets so much love and attention. Dr. Gearhart and staff take time to listen and they give good solid advice that helps. This is the best veterinary practice I’ve ever been a client of. The vets are extremely knowledgeable and use holistic methods as well as western medicine, the front office is always welcoming, and the vet techs are super friendly and caring. My Pomeranian, Poppy, happens to be a patient of Dr. Gearhart and she is awesome! Also, Kat, one of the vet techs there is so great- she’s amazing with my dog and always goes above and beyond. My 16 year old wire-haired dachshund is a beloved member of our family. He is old and lumpy and bumpy and has had spine and neck surgeries. But he is full of life and joy, in part because of the excellent care at Iowa Veterinary Wellness Center. Their approach is more wholistic than most. I respect and trust all of the staff. I can't even tell you what Dr. Wilke has meant to me this past year. I left my very busy, high volume Drake neighborhood vet clinic that kept prescribing antibiotics when my dog's issue was congestive heart failure. Previous vet missed hip out of socket, arthritis in elbows, pretty much EVERYTHING in my little pom. Male vet there talked down to me.and treated my like I was a hysterical mother. Dr. Wilke found everything in the first visit and we will never go anywhere else. You won't feel like a number and have a different vet at every appointment. She really cares, even when it's time for a pet to cross the rainbow bridge. I can't say enough. Just go!

The staff is friendly. The veterinary and vet tech seem to care about my pet. My cat is on daily lifelong meds and because of that shouldn't receive many of the recommended vaccines. He has been to many vets before I found Iowa Veternary Wellness and they all vaccinated him. My vet at IVW was the first to point out he shouldn't receive vaccines when taking the meds and showed me where that is stated on the box his meds come in. I love their ability and desire to treat holistically.

Dr. Wilke and Dr. Gearhart and all the staff are the very best at the beginning of your pet's life and at the end and everything in between. When we had to put our dog, Nettie, down a few weeks ago, Dr. Wilke and her staff were so kind, sincere, and compassionate. They knew how we felt and were sad right along with us. The sympathy card a few days later was the sweetest...every staff member and both Dr's said a little something and signed it. Truly touching! When I brought in our new kitten, Leo, a few days ago, all the staff and both Dr's were squeezed into the exam room to ooh and aww over how cute he was. We were searching for a new vet when we discovered Dr. Wilkie and her wonderful staff. Our giant Golden Retriever had been limping for weeks and was unable to do his daily walks.. Many options were laid out and it was always our choice to choose "what's next?" Although the choices bought us a few months and better quality of life, the end result was euthanasia....an un-forseen tumor. The end of life visit is never easy but we will have good memories. Also, the office staff is fantastic--Jessica and Lynita are the best--they make the experience better for me and for my companion animals. I don't know what I would do without this place--the combination of holistic and traditional medicine, to me, is the best I can do for my animals. I recently had to let my 16 1/2 year old chihuahua go--and it was the hardest thing I think I've ever had to do. But truly, Dr. Wilke and her amazing staff made it less horrible just by being there. They are wonderful.

This is the most first class care and customer service we have ever been to. Ever. From the moment you arrive, you know it's different. It's set up like a home so that my dog was never nervous or shaking like a normal vet clinic where you wait in an uncomfortable, smelly waiting room to go back to an exam room with a cold slippery, stainless steel table. NOT HERE! Every detail was thought of. The individual rooms are awesome and comfortable. The animals are loved on and at-ease immediately. Dr. Kim listened to my beliefs and concerns and instead of force vaccinating, ran blood work and titres to determine risk and need! And the one vaccine (Rabies) that we did, they distracted my pet with love and treats while he was being poked and he never even knew he got it! Amazing. Top notch, all-around. Recently moved to Iowa and searched reviews of vetinary facilities in Des Moines. We also searched the state board records for any complaints. By far, IVWC was the highest reviewed and was absent of board action of the 15 vetinary doctors and hospitals reviewed. Our last vetinary facility was CityVet in the Oaklawn district of Dallas. Their facility is tantamount to the Mayo Clinic for vetinary care, so IVWC had a clear mountain to climb. Sparky (our terrier/chihuahua mix) needed to have one of his vaccinations updated and was having some scratching issues with his right ear. An appointment was made. We arrived at IVWC taking in the med spa like atmosphere of the office noting that they also practice alternative vetinary medicine: pleasant and welcome surprise. Checkin was welcoming and swift and they already had Sparky's medical records at hand. The waiting room also has rockers to calm worried fur-baby and their pet-parent's nerves. Nice touch. For the first time ever, Sparky stepped onto the scale without having to be cajoled. Very good sign! Then we were lead back to an examination room with the aire of a front room, obviously meant to keep pets and people calm. It worked for us both. Sparky's Vet Assistant and Doctor were extremely pleasant, gentle and provided the best of care. Upon news that we were new to Iowa, the care team briefed us on Iowa winters where pet care is concerned and how to pet friendly manage sidewalk ice. This was also much appreciated. A few days after our appointment, IVWC made a followup call to our home to check on how the ear treatment was progressing; a week later, a hand-written (YES! Hand written) note arrived by USPS checking on Sparky and thanking us for using their services. That pushed me over the top! Excellent customer service combined with premier vetinary care! We are overwhelmed with joy and confident we have selected the best care for our fur-kid. I am considering sending my personal physician to IVWC for schooling on medical customer service.

I saw Dr. Gearhart yesterday for the first time, she was the best vet I have ever been too & the only vet my dog has actually liked & warmed up to right away. Bo and I had an amazing experience. Bo had been to the emergency vet 2 times (within 1 week) and on 5 different medications for pain in his neck. The night before I took him here he actually came out from under my bed dragging his neck on the ground and crying in pain. This was when I decided something different had to happen. I called the clinic the next morning and they were able to get me in in a few hours. I took Bo for an acupuncture treatment. I met Dr. Wilke at an event that I was at and decided to check out Iowa Veterinary Wellness Center when it was time to update my dog's vaccinations. I will now continue to go to IVWC for everything! For the first 4 years with my dog my experience with my dog going to the vet was that as soon as I opened the car door she did not want to get out, then she pulled backward on the leash the entire way into the building, tried to climb over my shoulder to get out when on the exam table, and couldn't get out fast enough at the end. Every time we have gone to IVWC (which has now been 3 times) she is exploring from the moment the car door opens, goes in the building with her tail up, has to check out every corner of the building, is ok with the exam, and doesn't pull her way back to the car (her tail is still up and wagging the entire way). The staff are all very friendly and are willing to answer any questions you have. Scheduling is also very easy. I have already begun recommending IVWC to everyone that I know!

Would totally recommend Iowa Vet Acupuncture! They are awesome! The laser acupuncture definitely helped our Newfy a lot. She had both knees go out on her and the laser acupuncture did the trick -- I couldn't believe it. She was able to walk again! It prolonged her life at least 5 more years -- she also took supplements which I believe played a part, too. Dr. Wilke and staff are wonderful, caring people. If you have a dog or cat with a pain, check them out, they may be able to help with the laser acupuncture, unlike other vets!

I have taken my dogs to Iowa Veterinary Wellness for a long time because the doctors are open to alternative treatments. I have used their acupuncture services. I like that they do everything they can to be legal and keep my dogs safe, but not over immunize them. I called one day to ask what to do for a case of warts on my dog's mouth. They suggested putting clove oil on it and in 2 days they were gone. They want what is best for my babies and they are very thorough when checking them out for any problems. Plus, they make over my big guys because they are scared to get their nails trimmed and a whole gang of girls makes over them and makes them feel comfortable and happy. So we will be going back!

Iowa Veterinary Wellness Center has been apart of our family for the past 4 years. Upon moving back to Iowa 6 years ago we went to a traditional vet for the care of our pets. The care was ok, but not to the warmth and understanding of IVWC. Dr. Wilke and her staff are wonderful, kind, and willing to spend as much time as necessary to answer your questions and concerns. Disappointed that records from my previous vet never arrived at this vet. This clinic never checked to make sure that they had them prior to my appointment. So when I got there, they made an attempt to get the records at that time. The xrays never were received. Since my appointment here was for a second opinion on my cats past dental surgery, I missed out on getting that second opinion. Also, two products were suggested for my cat and I was to purchase them on Amazon. One was a food and one was an Omega 3 supplement. Both had very bad reviews. Therefore, I don’t understand why they were recommended. I did not purchase them. Last but not least, there was a brown stain on the carpet in the exam room, which creeped me out. I will say that the total bill was less than I expected.

If you are looking for a caring and intelligent doctor whose primary concern is your dog's long term health then look no further. This clinic employs a combination of natural and synthetic (modern medicine) methods to achieve the desired outcome for your pet. My 2 year old rescued pitbull terrier had allergies since we picked her up (rash and bumps all over her body, bad breath and various smells coming from her body). After just one month of applying the prescribed dietary standards, our dog is 90% better. This method required no synthetic medicines which I thought would work the best. She still has bad breath but I think that just comes with the territory!

I love these guys and their approach to the care of my cocker spaniels. I had taken my Oreo to several vets about her eyes. Goopy, red, she was constantly scratching them, all of them were underwhelmed and did not act concerned. I took them to IVWC and sat with Dr. Wilke for an hour talking with her about my concerns and prior experiences with other vets. did you see that I spoke with her for AN HOUR! She listened which is more than I got from anyone else. We made a plan for treatment as well as a consult with a specialist. Down the road when my Oreo pulled her ACL, they were all about conservative therapy and homeopathic and noninvasive treatment, which I love! I am a nurse and we give so many pills out for this and that, to know they are more than willing to not have a "pill" readily available makes me so happy! They love my Oreo and Fig and I trust the care they provide. Our pets are an extension of our family...treat them as such and give them the best care you can!

I am a brand new dog mom & have had the best experience with Dr Wilke & her entire team. Not only are they friendly & courteous, but they are so amazingly comforting to our new puppy. He is immediately calmed by their compassion & doesn't get stressed at all. Their knowledge of what products/nutrition are best is super important. Hands down - I trust Dr Wilke & her team!!!

Took my dog in for shots and a check up. The people are nice but it felt like I had spent all morning at "The Home Shopping Network" They constantly pushed services and products at me. One thing was a dog food (Flint River) they recommended. I looked it up and the second ingredient was wheat. Anyone with a dog knows you don't feed them wheat. (allergy reactions) When I got the bill I was amazed at the prices. They charged $20 to trim her nails. It took less than five minutes. I have been there several times before but never again. Someone must have bought a new house that needs paid for.

My cat has been a patient of Iowa Veterinary Wellness for three years, and my partner and I recently began taking our rescue dog there as well. In this time, I've had nothing but very positive experiences. The staff at IVW is unfailingly kind, competent, and supportive. Their love for animals and ability to get "on their level" is obvious: Dr. Wilke often sits on the floor with me and my cat during visits, rubbing his belly and gently checking him while we chat about his health and any concerns. Likewise, veterinary tech Christina took the time to sit down with my partner and I to talk through post-surgery care and follow-up after our dog had major dental work. Staff members are always willing to go the extra mile to answer questions, discuss care, and even provide emotional support (turns out major surgery is stressful!). Pricing is appropriate for the high level of care. Moreover, IVW is transparent about costs (itemized bills, etc.) and openly discuss why certain expenses or aspects of care are necessary. I would highly recommend them to anyone (and I do!).

They provide calming pheromone-infused towels to place over the carriers to help calm them in the building, as well as feliway-diffusers in the rooms. They're helpful and are better than any vet I've taken my cats to!

We absolutely love Dr. Wilke and her office staff! I love that she doesn't push unnecessary vaccines or immediately prescribe antibiotics when you bring your pet in. She is willing to work with you to create a holistic plan to help heal your pet, including food and diet, herbs, acupuncture, and traditional western medicine when needed. Our previous vet was so pushy about vaccines and having us purchase our flea and tick meds from their office (and pay the extra $ for them!), but Dr. Wilke suggested that we just go to Walgreen's and buy the medicine there. This was a true testament to her primary mission as a care provider and not just in it for the profit. When our youngest dog had her spay surgery, there were some unforeseen complications that required her to be watched overnight. Dr. Wilke actually took our dog home with her and had her husband sleep on the couch while our dog slept on the floor next to him. Seriously, there are so few people out there who would truly care for your pet as if it were her own. Dr. Wilke diagnosed our oldest dog with lymphoma and helped refer us to the right specialist to start chemotherapy. While she couldn't help with the chemo treatments, she did help by suggesting herbs and other treatments to help boost her immune system. We are happy to report that our dog is in full remission and we hope she can stay that way for as long as possible! We feel so comfortable with Dr. Wilke and her staff. We have no doubt that when she suggests something for our pets, that she has their best interest at heart. We are so thankful that we found her and her office.
