Our dog swallowed my sock and it was 8 at night so it wasn't like we could go to our regular vet so we called up this place and they were great. We took our dog in and didn't have to wait long at all. The service was friendly and they were personable and explained everything we needed to know throughout the somewhat gross process of getting my sock out of there. After several messy clean ups the sock was out and we were on our way home pretty much worry free in quick fashion. Reasonable prices as well for being open for these types of situations.

Far too lacking in common sense and too dependent on testing. I fostered a kitten from three days of age that clearly had a brain injury from the very start. She survived, but at three months started having seizures. I took her here for medication for the seizures. They insisted that they had to do blood work on her, and then because there will ALWAYS be something out of wack when an animal is having multiple seizures a day, focused in on the blood work and decided that this cat that is clearly brain injured was seizing because of an infection. Sent her home with antibiotics. So she is continuing to have seizures and I will have to take her in again, here, or to another vet. Wasted almost $400 because of their inability to use common sense. I will NOT be returning, but will go to a vet who has a brain and uses it. The rest of the staff was very nice, but the vet was a complete idiot.

We had an emergency with our cat this past Saturday night. Ralph ended up needing to spend the night at Bright Eyes & Bushy Tails and we were able to bring him home the next day. EVERY single person we encountered at that office was amazing. They were friendly and reassuring while still being realistic and professional. They prescribed a medicine for my cat and the dosage was a quarter of a tablet. I thought I was going to have to cut all these little tablets into quarters and wasn't really looking forward to it, and when I went to sit down and do it, I discovered that they had already done it for me. It's touches like those that make a business stand out, and it is very appreciated. When picking Ralph up I noticed that they have a really nice way of telling people to be quiet and respectful while someone is putting their pet down- it's a battery-operated candle on the counter and if it's "lit" it means someone is saying goodbye to their companion. I thought it was a really compassionate touch.

Dr. Allan Berger and his staff have been top notch. We have had excellent care from them. My daughter's dog of about 11 years was found to have a heart tumor. Dr. Berger explained all our options to us, he even let us know the expenses so that we could make the best decision. He has been compassionate and always available for any questions/concerns. Thanks to Dr. Berger we still have Knockout for a little longer. We know her outcome isn't the best, but he has made the time left with her the most comfortable and relaxed possible. We definitely have the best of esteem for Dr. Berger and the staff of Bright Eyes and Bushy Tails and we will definitely continue to go to them for our veterinary needs.

Very short wait. Staff was extremely nice and concise in conveying information and procedures. The only drawback with all emergency type facilities is the high cost. Received a follow up call for the next two days to check on the status of my dog. In spite of the cost I would go back again.

Unfortunately over the years we have had more than a few pet needs that has led us to needing emergency care. We have always found the staff helpful and friendly at the Vet Hospital. The doctors are very extremely knowledgeable and also compassionate. We have always been given treatment options and price quotes along the way. We have never felt pressured to do the most expensive procedure or test first. We find it comforting to be in the exam room with our pet and they have always allowed that during our visits. Although I never want to have to use their services, I would without question go there should another emergency arise with one of our pets.

I feel robbed, taken advantage of my fear of something being wrong with my dog. Sure there nice but something isn't right in how much it cost to never get a diagnosis and it may be indigestion!! 1100.00 in tests!! I'm disgusted. My dog seems a lot better, at home sleeping. Was told xray may show a mass, kidneys may be failing but we can do an ultrasound. Ultrasound shows nothing, could be pancreatic we can do a test, once again negative!! The more I think about it I was scammed, played, lead into a trap! I'm really #i$$3d now!

Over the holidays while we were far from home visiting relatives, our wonderful 16-year-old dog Stoney declined quite rapidly. We realized we needed help to let her go after she'd given us 14.5 years of sweet companionship. We found out about BEBT and called to request their help. Immediately we were given an emergency appointment (on Friday afternoon right before Christmas no less!). The staff were very professional and helped us navigate our last moments with Stoney in a beautiful, caring way. We are forever grateful to Dr. Schroeder, Renee, and all the staff for being there for Stoney and us at a difficult time. Thank you BEBT Veterinary Hospital!

A few weeks ago my dog had to be rushed into the vets office. It was late at night around 10 pm. The girl at the desk was very friendly and very helpful. The vet that i saw was awesome. They both answered all my questions and were very reassuring about my dogs outcome. Thank you for everything. My dog is doing really well. My husband and I are taking care of a 3 week old kitten for my mom, and we were really concerned about her not eating and being half the size of her littermates. We called Bright Eyes and Bushy Tails thinking we would have to make an emergency visit, but the front desk staff was very friendly and they were able to fit us in an hour and a half later as a regular appointment. The vet techs and the vet were very nice and seemed to actually care about helping us save the poor girl. The vet even showed me how to tube feed her if necessary, but she has been doing a lot better since our visit, so I don't think that will be needed. They gave us antibiotics, deworming medication, and also gave her a shot of vitamin b-12 in hopes to improve her appetite which so far it has. I would definitely take any future pets there, and have even convinced my mom to switch vet clinics from the one she initially took her too. They were more concerned about getting the parent cats fixed than helping the kitten. Great place to take your pet!

This is a fantastic clinic! Dr. Allan Berger is one of the most intelligent veterinarians I have ever met. He uses up-to-date medical knowledge along with years of experience. I feel like my cat gets top-notch treatment every time we visit. Dr. Berger and Dr. Conant did an excellent job of explaining the options and treating my cat’s bladder tumor. On Christmas Eve, while my husband and I were out of state, we received a call that our pup had been attacked by another dog at the place where we were boarding her. Luckily, the staff at the boarding facility brought her to BEBT for her emergency care. The staff at BEBT contacted us immediately to involve us in decisions regarding her care, and were very communicative throughout the next several days until we could fly home. When we went in for a follow-up visit, several of the vets and techs stopped by our exam room to say "Hi" to our little girl. It was clear that the staff had not only taken great care of her wounds, but also given her lots of snuggles and attention. While the circumstances of our visit to BEBT weren't ideal, I'm so grateful that she was in such good, caring hands.

Our little Mini Schnauzer, Bogey, was experiencing changes in behavior. He would not play or do the normal things he was used to doing. We took him to our regular vet and she did all kinds of blood work. She could not find anything wrong with him. We noticed he was not shutting his mouth, he was not panting, but would not have his mouth shut like most dogs. We took him back to our vet and again, nothing. She sent us to a Specialty Vet Clinic in Cedar Rapids. The young vet there did all kinds of tests and again, found nothing wrong. After another few days, we decided to take him to the Emergency Vet Clinic in Iowa City, Bright Eyes and Bushy Tails. We had a vet there that was somewhat of an experienced lady and knew right away that our Bogey had Trigeminal Neuritis. It is a nerve disease that will not allow him to close his mouth. It eventually goes away, but during the process, he needs to be hand fed and his water intake needs to be monitored as when he laps, it comes right back out into his dish. He is getting better every day and we are so grateful to Dr. Deb Conant for her knowledge of this disease. It is very rare and she had only seen 3-4 cases in her career. The other vets we saw were quite young and I am sure had never seen this before, therefore were not able to diagnose it. This vet hospital is so compassionate, caring and knowledgeable and we would never hesitate to take our "family" there. Thank you so much!

The veterinarians did a great job of taking care of my cat, and the support staff could not have been friendlier and kinder. They were patient with all of my concerned calls and were always very thorough. The only downside is that it was extremely expensive, which we expected because it is an emergency clinic.

We had just gotten our new Springer puppy, Zoey on Sunday, July 1st. Everything was going great for almost a week. Then on Saturday morning, July 7th, our poor girl wouldn't eat and she was throwing up and had diarrhea. She seemed very lethargic. We rushed her to Bright Eyes and Bushy Tails, since we were camping in Tiffin. We called on our way and they got us right into a room. The staff and vets were all very great and informational. While being checked for Parvo (which came back neg) poor Zoey had a seizure due to low blood sugar and dehydration. I was very impressed with how quickly the staff worked to get some sugar into her body. Zoey ended up having to stay over night getting IV fluids and trying to get here blood sugar regulated. They called us later to let us know that she had coccidia. I was happy to hear that they figured out what was wrong, that way they could give her the right meds to get her back to normal. We called Saturday night to check in, and her blood sugar had doubled. We were heading home Sunday from the campground and when we were about to leave, we got a call that Zoey was ready to come home with aftercare. We were sent home with directions, 5 meds, and some high calorie food. The first night we were home she vomited over night, and I was able to call to check in to see if there was anything else I should do. Very nice that they are open 24/7. Another nice thing is that we received two phones calls to see how she was doing. It shows that they truly care for your pets. I would def recommend Bright Eyes & Bushy Tails to anyone in the area that needs emergency pet care.

My fur-baby (cat) got into a fight with a different fur-baby (dog) on NYE. I called to let them know we were on the way and the helped us immediately. The nurses were amazing, you can tell that they have a genuine love for animals. The vet we had on NYE was good at her job but not very people oriented but the vet we had for a follow up on blood work was phenomenal. While I would never wish for anyone to have to use this place for an emergency type facility, if you do, rest assured they do everything they can and make sure to explain everything to you and why they want to/would recommend specific tests.

Helped me through death. I moved to Cedar Rapids from Cedar Falls for college, bringing my 10 1/2 year old cat with me. In October, 2 months after moving here, I came home one night to find him sick and hiding in my closet. I called every hospital around and ended up rushing him to Iowa City at 11 pm. They immediately took him in, even gave us a little "cuddle buddy" for him to make him more comfortable. Sadly, Shadow (my cat) was put down that night. They showed me all the tests they could run to find out what was wrong and explained each one. I got to choose what tests I wanted down and in the end, he had Kidney Failure. They showed me his results and explained what everything meant. 5 total results, two were in the high range, and three were off the machines reading. They told me they could do IV and I asked the chance of that helping, they were honest with me and after talking with me, we made the best decision for him which is to euthanize him. Being 19 and having him since I was 8, he was my baby. They gave me my time with him and let me hold him when they did it. They were very considerate and even came in later once I was calmed down to talk about burial or cremation. They contacted my vet back home to let them know Shadow passed away also, so that was relieving because I didn't want to have to go through what happened by telling them. Thank you so much for doing what you did. I recommend them...most definitely

BEBT was recommended by a friend several weeks ago which was much appreciated when we were in need this weekend! Our pup was seen right away - the professionalism and care by all the staff was superb. We were informed of all steps and had input on decisions based on staff recommendations. The cost estimates provided were actually less than the final amount. Communication throughout was excellent, including the follow up call the day after our pup came home.

Bright Eyes is a great place to take your healthy or sick pet. I have been taking my dogs there for years. Everyone is a pleasure to work with and they always make my dogs feel comfortable. Beginning with our middle of the night phone inquiry, to the thorough and compassionate examination of our puppy upon arrival by the vet tech and vet, to the courteous staff member that checked us out of the ER, we were more than impressed with the gentle handling of our sick puppy and the professional discourse with each staff member. Dr. Berger was informative, competent, and spent a lot of time with us explaining the diagnosis, treatment options, and service prices prior to us making any decisions. If necessary, I would drive from out of town again to this hospital and we have already expressed our gratitude and positive experience with the clinic to friends and family.

This place is amazing. They have saved my familly’s Dog in the past and they have always treated my dog well. I just want to thank the vet tech I spoke with around 6am this morning. I’ve been in a panic with my dogs health right now as I have moved away and cannot take my dog to Bright Eyes since it’s such a long drive now. The vet I ended up going to was a disappointment to say the least. The lady I spoke with this morning tried her very best to help me out with my situation. She even explained to me what the medicines are for that the other vet prescribed my dog which was impressive and so helpful. Even though I was in a panic, she remained calm and calmed me down about the situation and provided other tips of how I can help my dog’s situation. I honestly miss this place as it has set a high bar for my vet preferences. I would recommend to anyone living in the area to go here as the staff and facility is just amazing.

My dog seemed to develop a myriad of problems within weeks (Lyme, ACL tear, Mast Cell Tumor) and we decided to take her here. Could not be more pleased! We've been put on a timeline for treating her various issues (Mast Cell Tumor has already been removed, came back a low grade II thank goodness).Everyone takes their time to answer ALL of my paranoid-pet-parent questions. I've seen some vets that will dismiss your wishes, but these guys actually listen to you and try to work WITH you. Instead of pushing for a major surgery, we agreed to address my dog's weight first, giving me and the bf time to save up the money and to get my dog healthier first. I only wish we lived closer to them!

It was such a relief to have their helpful/friendly staff there for us when we had a health emergency for our cat (urinary blockage). He needed an expensive procedure and a couple of nights observation at the hospital, so things were pricey, but they were very up front with a realistic estimate of what the costs were and what the alternatives were. He ended up needing to be on a special diet, and they helped us find a food that he would gladly eat. Thanks so much for being there for us at a stressful time.

The staff was incredibly knowledgable and kind. Our dog suffered from sudden, acute kidney failure and we had to put him to sleep. They treated him like he was their own; gently, affectionately and efficiently. Euthanizing our beloved pet was one of the hardest things we've ever had to do, but it was bearable because of the professionalism and empathy extended to us at Bright Eyes & Bushy Tails. I would recommend this facility without hesitation to any pet owner.

Our labradoodle managed to consume seven jalapeño cheddar brats before they were cooked. We brought her to BEBT immediately and within minutes they were expelled, with the gentle help of Dr. Berger and Becca. Our dog was as good as new 20 minutes after we arrived! Great place if you want your family member unthinized. Lady Vet on Staff ,really didn't have a clue and first line of defence was to have 600 dollars worth of test done. When all he needed was teeth cleaned and tooth pulled that was bleeding and because he was on aspirin it would not clot up. Like we said many times while she was pushing to put him down. Would not go there again to be overcharged and vets overpaid for services you do not need . Took to new vet in the morning and Bam just like that tooth pulled ,antibiotic and back to being a lil happy guy .

They were able to see my Bird the same day he had his issues. They knew what they were doing and got him sorted out. The Vet and Tech were friendly, knowledgeable, and able to answer all my questions. The price was very fair (less than $100) considering that I called in and got same day service for a pet that most vets would not see. I hope I never have to bring my bird back here, but if he has more health problems I will do so again in a heartbeat.

Our girl had 2 surgeries, 2 inpatient stays, & many a late night emergency check-in with BEBT over her 16 years. Our final farewell was shared with the team at BEBT and we appreciate the care, kindness, and integrity the staff gave us and our wonderful pup during her last days here on this side of the bridge. Every doctor was honest, straight forward and considerate with every issue we encountered and presented all options without judgement or pressure. I know our girl loved the team here and we were always confident that she would be safe and cared for when she stayed. When she passed, they treated us with compassion and sensitivity and provided us with a beautiful clay paw print from our girl that we will cherish. Someday we will open our hearts to another companion, and we won't hesitate to bring them to BEBT for their care.

I have mixed reviews of this place. First the good, service and the vets were very nice, I believe my dog was taken care of and the price was reasonable also they would see my dog when her shots were not up to date great. Now the bad was our dogs surgery was going to be a little over a thousand dollars and said they could get her in any of the next three days but I had to wait till payday which was over a week away so after I got paid and tried to set up the surgery they said it would be three weeks before they could get her in. Think they could find something for a dog in pain seems like I was pushed back since I had to wait to be paid, because they had plenty of openings at first.

I have never taken a pet of mine here, but I feel it is worth noting that when I called them this evening about something with my cat they did not tell me I immediately needed to rush in. They told me to wait and what to watch for as well as the fact that it could probably wait until Monday unless my cat exhibited a list of symptoms. When it comes to our pets, most of us would rush right in if a vet told us we needed to. I'm pleased to say they did not take advantage of my love and fear for my pet.

Our puppy was really sick. we took her in on a Tuesday. they admitted her for what we all thought was dehydration and a stomach bug. I brought her home on Wednesday on anitbiotics. On Friday she started to not eat again. they kept saying over and over "finish her course of meds and bring her in on Monday if shes not better". I got this response every time I called for 3 days. well at 2 am Monday morning she was crying and couldn't walk then became unresponsive. We rushed her in and found out she lost 20 lbs within 5 days and that she was in shock from an Addisonian Crisis. That's right she had Addisons. they never even bothered to test for it when I brought her in the first time and she had all the symptoms of it. I will never come back here. I feel like they killed my puppy. She was only 2 and half. If they would have found it on the Tuesday she could have been saved. They will never see my business again

High quality treatment, but for so much more money than necessary. I appreciate the knowledge of reptiles that isn't commonly available locally. Dr. Berger seems to know his stuff, but will cut me off mid sentence with rude comments. He seemed to be nearly emotionless as well as we had to make the decision to put our dog down

Dr. Allan Berger is a great vet. When my dog Sammy ate a 3 foot long string (unbeknownst to us) and became ill, after a thorough exam Dr. Berger did an ultrasound and was able to diagnose the problem immediately. He determined that she needed emergency surgery. Now she is fully recovered and back to her normal self. In addition, the entire staff (from the Vet techs to the front desk staff)was so helpful during the process. We are so grateful to have such a capable vet in the area!

I took my dog and friend, Dusty, to Bright Eyes and Bushy Tail Vet Clinic. My dog had been sick for a few days: not eating with awful colored and smelly movements . She just lay around and did little. They saw me immediately and showed concern and real caring. Dusty has recovered (probably something she ate) and is back to her old self. I am very unhappy. I was price gouged! My daughter took the pet rabbit in for a grooming (they do a good job of shaving a rabbits hair down). They then started asking her if they could do a check up which they did not price to her. They tried to charge $80 for having the rabbit there all day for grooming. They tried to charge a fee for medication for a skin rash that I never found on the rabbit. You have to be very careful with them. They are only trying to make money so you have to ask them what every little thing costs. Bill charged was $250. We negotiated down to $100. I will never, ever go back to them!

I have taken my cat here a few times since I got him, and I have always had a positive experience when I do. The staff are always very friendly and answer all of my questions, and I have found their care to be excellent. They work well with my regular vet, and have a lot of specialized tests and treatments that you don't get anywhere else, like ultrasounds. If I have a criticism, it is that they tend to push the most expensive options right out the gate, but it appears to come from being overly cautious, which isn't a bad thing in a vet in my opinion. They got my cat diagnosed with pancreatitis pretty quickly, and they walked me through all of my options and explained the rationale very well. It won't replace my normal vet, but I really appreciate having them here.

Our dog got into his bag of food and had a field day, becoming lethargic, bloated, generally pained. Of course, this didn't happen until our regular vet had closed so we called ahead and came to Bright Eyes & Bushy Tails. We didn't wait long at all for what was essentially a walk-in visit. The techs were very kind and took all of our information and were very upfront with matters of pricing for the visit. Dr. Berger was on duty and examined our dog, recommended an X-ray (he also gave the price upfront) and showed us the exposures. He talked us through his decision process and laid out our options. We decided to induce vomiting and it worked fabulously (as vomiting goes). I would definitely recommend this place for emergency pet care, for several reasons: price, service, expertise, speed. We took our corn snake here because he was lethargic and hiding. First, this is the ONLY place around (I live 30 minutes away) which treats snakes, making them essential. Second, the service we received was unparalleled! They loved on Frank from the moment we walked in the door. Since we were new, it took a minute to get registered, but they were efficient and friendly. The vet tech who brought us back was a pro with snakes and taking his information. When the vet came in, she was proficient, friendly, and not only answered all of my questions, but the questions my 8 year old lobbed at her as well with patience and grace. Frank turned out to just be struggling to shed, which is a simple fix, but we were never made to feel dumb for bringing him in and given great information about how to prevent and combat this problem in the future. Most impressive was the fact that I got a follow-up call the next morning, asking how Frank was doing and if we had any more questions. This is a great vet for ALL members of your pet family!

I took my 73 lb Red lab Dec.14th to my local vet. After examination and Xrays She thought he had lung contusions but needed to be hospitalized for observation and the possibility that there could be other problems. So I came here. The reality was he had a pneumothorax and in the 2 hours since the local xray it had expanded and he would need a thoracentesis. The staff carefully explained what they were planning to do and repeated the possibility of other unseen injuries. He was put in ICU. He would have a repeat Xray in six hours and if necessary could need a chest tube. So I was happy not to get the call to approve that. I did get a call in the morning saying that they wanted to keep him longer due to pain control. His most obvious problem was he had abraded area the right side to the left side of his loins from the tipoff his penis to the scrotum. BIG. I figured it would take weeks to heal. Being a post surgical R N for 18 years I have seen my share of open wounds. They used low laser beam treatment for the wound. Already when I brought him home there was significant improvement. Had wound care and another laser treatment on the nineteenth and he had made a big improvement. On the twenty first he got another laser treatment and the Dr was amazed at the improvement. The size for the wound was probably 1/4 the original size. This is great but there was another significant area of improvement that was the improvement in his level of pain which was also a direct response to the laser therapy. Today he wanted to get in the front seat like usual. He wouldn't come to the back so I helped him in. You could almost see him smile. One other special thing was that the Dr called every morning to see how he was doing even when he was coming in for an appointment. That is above and beyond quality of care! He might not even be here if I hadn't brought him in. It is a big Merry Christmas present for me to have him home and doing so well. Thanks so much. Mel Schulz

We had an emergency that required our puppy to stay two nights here and I have never been treated better than at Bright eyes and bushy tails! I did not deal well with my dog being sick and away from me, but the staff called me with any updates, sent me pictures when I missed her, encouraged me to call for updates or questions and gave us their full support and attention while we were present. They calculated prices before we made any decisions on care and talked us through all of the tests and medication our dog would be receiving, they really made us feel in control of our dogs care. Not only did they do all of this while our dog was in their care, but they followed up with calls to see how she was doing and to see if we had any questions!!! Place was ok. Staff was friendly. Seems to be a place geared more towards emergency services seeing as its 24 hour. I do not reccomend taking your animal here regular care or non emergencies because I found it to be way...way....overpriced. They wanted to charge me nearly 1000$ to have a small skin lump removed from my bulldog. ( a routine vet operation). I rescheduled with a different vet and got the operation done for 200$. I really feel like they were trying to rip me off. Even more annoying they wouldnt give me ANY of their regular rates over the phone and I had to come in and pay for a checkup just to be told what the place usually charges....really dumb way to run a place that provides emergency services.

This has been my dog’s vet since the beginning. I will say this: yes, it is pricey!! However, I will continue returning for the following reasons. First, since it’s open 24 hours with the associated vet hospital, they’re always available if I need to make an appointment or call with an issue for triage or get my dogs records. I can stop by at any time to pick up his meds. Also, in case there is an emergency, they will have all of his vet records on hand automatically which I love. Second, when my dog (10 pounds) was just a year old he was mauled by an enormous Saint Bernard. He was taken to a different emergency vet originally as I was not there and I took him back here for a follow up. The original emergency vet in Cedar Rapids was quite terrible in their management of his and sent him home with me when he was septic (systemwide infection basically). He was so sick when he got home he peed on himself multiple times because he was too sick to move. When I brought him for follow up at BEBT, they immediately recognized how serious the situation was and he was rehospitalized for intensive cares and IV antibiotics 24hrs/day as his bowels were no longer moving and oral antibiotics wouldn’t have been as effective. He required multiple more surgeries to remove his dying skin around the main wound and it ended up being large enough that the discussion about potentially having to euthanize was brought up. However, the staff clearly cared so much about saving my little guy and pulled out all the stops including a very unorthodox system to try to stretch his skin shut over the wound. Eventually, he turned the corner and the staff and techs were there every step of the way for frequent bandage changes. By the end of this month and a half adventure, I had a happy and healthy dog which I owe to the staff here. I am pretty positive had I returned to the original vet for follow ups he would not have made it. Now everybody recognizes my dog when I bring him in for check-ups too, which goes to show how much they care about each individual pet. Long review, but I’m very grateful to the staff and will always be willing to pay a little bit more to go here.

I took my cat Bella for emergency care, since my usual vet was closed. She was having trouble breathing (previously diagnosed with allergies or asthma). I was away from home about five hours during which her symptoms had escalated. I was very pleased with their care for Bella; they were very thorough with her exam. Additionally, every detail and possibility was explained to me by Dr. Berger so I could make an informed decision about treatment. During my visit there were 3 or 4 other pets needing care. Triage was handled smoothly. Sufficient information was given to me so I understood the slight delay while another animal was cared for. Upon leaving, both Dr. Berger and one of his assistants confirmed that I understood treatment and follow-up care for Bella. The facility seemed very well managed with cooperation and trust between Dr. Berger and his assistants. It seemed kind of a lot to keep organized with several ill animals. They all worked efficiently, not seeming rushed or anxious -- very important in giving emergency care. I hope I won't need emergency care for my cats again; but if I do, I am happy to know that Emergency Veterinary Service of Iowa City is always there.

First it is very nice to have an emergency pet clinic. That said, when your beloved pet is in need you are not always as rational as you normally would be. I took my pet in thinking that euthanasia was the best thing to do. Exam, X-rays, Antibiotic, Critical Care diet and fluids was what occurred, as well as discussion of possible surgery... My furry family member died the next day. Yes the doctor and staff are very nice, yes they called the next day.... Was course of treatment financial, practical, rational??? My thoughts are that perhaps the Doctors at BEBT should have, and had a voice of reason.

I walked in on New Years Day because my dog pulled a muscle in his back leg. Of course the second we walk in he's excited and acting like nothing is wrong, so they got me to walk him around to make sure he actually needed to be checked out so I wasn't wasting any money. They suggested certain pain pills if he pinches a nerve or it happens again, and called the next day to check up on him to see if anything else was needed. We live about 90 miles away from Iowa City. We thought possibly our dog had eaten a plastic scrubbing pad as it was missing from our kitchen. Our Boxer, Twig, had been ill for 4 days and we had sought vet care at another facility for the past 3 days. We were referred to Bright Eyes and Bushy Tails for them to possibly scope our dog to see if he had truly eaten the scrubbing pad. Dr. Deb Conant took one look at our dog and the x-rays taken at the previous vet. She recommended surgery right away. Twig was being prepped for surgery 15 minutes after we walked through the door as he was acutely ill. The tech explained to us all of the charges upfront. She called us as soon as the surgery was over to give us a very thorough explanation. We were able to call at anytime day or night to check on our dog. I would not recommend this clinic. They discharged my dog after a serious surgery, when she was still very sick, running a fever, not eating, and she had a very red and inflamed incision. The night they discharged her I was very concerned, but a doctor was still unavailable after waiting another almost 2 hours (we had waited almost an hour and a half the first night to have her seen). Finally we gave up and asked the vet tech for his opinion, and he said the fever was not that worrisome and that her incision did not look infected. The next day we were back at the clinic because her incision was oozing blood. They did an ultrasound, said they found nothing, and sent her home with some very expensive new antibiotics. The next day we had an incredibly sick, in pain, miserable dog. There was no way I was taking her back so I took her to an Animal Hospital in the Quad Cities. They said they were surprised she made it through the night. She had a severe infection of her incision and very serious infections inside her gut. This animal hospital immediately operated on her and saved her life. BEBT missed a lot of early warning signs, and had very poor communication between doctors. One doctor would call and seem concerned, and the next would call to say everything was fine. The wait times were very long in order to see anyone, especially a vet. I am not sure that my dog would be here today if I hadn't transferred her care. I don't usually write poor reviews but I don't want the same experience for anyone else.

I was blown away by the care and service provided by the staff! We were greeted immediately by a Veterinary Assistant named Bekka,and we were treated by Dr. Berger. There was very limited wait time, knowledgeable staff that went above and beyond! They were amazing and made a time that was scary and stressful for both my pet and myself, caring and easy. I highly recommend this clinic and it's staff! We have now found our furever pet care center. Thank you so much!

This place is a very high tech & beautiful place to bring any of your pets to whether it is for a routine health check appointment, or in an emergency situation. This place is a state of the art facility that is staffed to provide the highest quality care for your pets. This place provides veteranarians that specialize in certain areas of health & dental care like you see in human hospitals. These people treat animals way better than I've seen humans get treated at the University of Iowa Hospital as I was NNursing Assistant there for 3.5 years. This place is very well staffed with people that are all there because they care so much about every animal that comes through their doors, & show so much compassion to your pet, & they definitely help the pets owners feel at ease if your pet has to stay there overnight or longer. I just can't say enough good things about this place, & every one of their staff members. It's just all around the best place to take your pet for health, dental, & emergencies. It's so nice to know that these people are open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year for your pet in the case of an emergency. I will say that the cost of their services are very pricy, but the level of care that your pets receive here, & the compassion that you normally don't get at your local vet office is well worth the higher costs. I have had 4 Maltese girls which 3 of those 4 have been treated here. 2 of them were in the middle of the night emergencies, and 1 of them just recently had to have 18 teeth pulled due to abcesses in the gums & tooth roots that led to a very bad infection that was all due to periodontal disease. It has been a little over a week & my little Rudy Sue is the happy loving little girl that I haven't seen in months. I am so thankful for all the exceptional care that my babies have received at Bright Eyes & Bushy Tails & for all of the amazing & friendly staff that are there. You will not find a better place to take your pets within miles of this place that cares for your pets like they do, & also care for you. I highly recommend this place to everyone that loves their pets like they are their kids. You will be extremely happy that you went here. I guarentee it !!

I have 5 cats, and we visit BEBT often for their medical needs. I appreciate their emergency services. I usually see Drs. Conant and Berger. Dr. Conant performed emergency surgery on our cat when she ingested a linear object (string). Dr. Berger performed an ultrasound on one of our cats and explained everything to me during the procedure. Drs. Conant and Berger were great - caring, very knowledgeable, and they explained all the options so you can make an informed choice. Technician Emily is wonderful, too. Highly recommend. The problem with our dog and his treatment options were fully explained to us by the doctor and helped us with our decision on how best to proceed. Afterwards we were given a cost estimate. The care and concern of the staff was very comforting, as was the ability to visit our dog in a treatment room, which I'm sure greatly relieved the anxiety for both us and our dog. We have had our dog treated at this facility once before and we would surely come back for any other problems that may occur.

My dog is very difficult when going to the vet. I have had poor experiences with multiple other vet hospitals in the past, but BEBT has been nothing but amazing. They handle my animals very professionally and tell me all my options up front. All the staff are very knowledgable and understanding. I wouldn't take any of animals anywhere else!

Near Thanksgiving I had to rush my cat to the emergency vet in the middle of the night because she was having breathing problems. The vet and vet assistants were very caring and helped me to make the hard decision of putting down my cat. I was very impressed with how they handled the situation and how sensitive they were with me. They even sent a card afterwards. I appreciate this office and will definitely come back if the need arises with my next pet.

I would love to give zero stars. We were at the vet clinic on a Sunday with our 7 year old Golden, Sam who was panting so hard and could not get comfortable. I will say the staff was very friendly and accommodating. The clinic was clean and modern. That is where the positive ends. I was sent home with a diagnosis of heat stroke (even though it was 70 degrees that weekend) and a recommendation to thin Sam's beautiful coat down. Six days later, I had to have a friend help me carry 100 pound Sam down the stairs of our home as he could not move his back legs. He was panting harder than ever and was soaked in saliva. Our local vet ran a chest x-ray and found Sam's chest to be full of cancerous tumors. He was gone an hour later. I realize this was inevitable, but my husband was out of town and didn't get the chance to say goodbye. We are broken hearted, made all the worse by the fact that Sam suffered additional days when maybe it could have been a more peaceful, FAMILY goodbye to our sweet boy.

I have mixed feelings about this pet hospital. Staff are inconsistent. They offer to call with an update and they don't. I waited 30 days for a diagnosis which they blamed their laboratory for. The owner called me at one point to provide an update. He seemed preoccupied with something else while on the call; his tone of voice was indifferent, which led me to think he was not concerned about the unfortunate fate of his patients and impact on their owners, using words like, "have a good day" after delivering sad news. You ask to speak to someone specifically and they're never available so you have to speak to whomever can take your call. Some doctors are rude. Makes me think staff are overworked and they don't have enough staff to serve the surrounding areas.

We have come here on quite a few occasions throughout the years for our pet emergencies and we have never been disappointed. They are honest, knowledgeable and professional and have always treated our pets as if they were their own. The staff is always sure to thoroughly explain to you the plan of attack, follow up appointments if needed, and post visit care at home they also print out that same information for you to reference then call the next day to make sure everything is OK and that there aren't any other questions or concerns. They can be pricey depending on the nature of the visit (like many other vets) but it is 100% worth it in my opinion. The whole staff goes above and beyond the normal call of duty to see that your pet gets back to good health and I would recommend them to anyone especially for pet emergencies.

I took my dog in on a Saturday evening around 6. I was able to have her seen right away and the staff truly showed their care for not only my dog, but towards my feelings as well. Everything was explained thoroughly and I even had additional questions not pertaining to her injury answered. I was shown so much care and respect that this will be my choice for all of my animal care needs, even though I live 45 minutes away. Dr. Fitzpatrick and the staff worked well together and my dog is on a quick road to recovery! Thanks BEBT!

This place is disappointing and extremely overpriced. My 10 month old German Shepherd dog fainted, began crying hysterically, and could not walk on his own, so I took him here in the case of an emergency. They waited 30 minutes before seeing him and recommended that i pay $700 for exams and for him to stay overnight, so I did. Basically, my dog sat in the kennel most of the night until earlier this morning for a few exams that concluded to “no definitive diagnosis” and they called this “a random episode”. They acted like this was no big deal, offered no comfort, and gave no helpful recommendations. When I asked (in a very reasonable manner) the Technician Manager, Gina Harrison, why I had paid so much money to have my dog not be helped at all all she had to rudely say was that I “signed the form” and “chose to bring him here”. My dog needed help? He was in pain? There’s no other emergency animal hospital in the area? So not only was it a huge waste of money (especially for a college student), I get to wait until this happens again to my dog in which I’ll have to pay the same fees or more for further research. I also just think these veterinans and staff don’t treat me with the same respect because I don’t appear to be an adult in their eyes; it is always assumed that I may have done something wrong (this is also my dogs normal vet in Iowa City). I know there are plenty of other animal hospitals that make your pet a priority rather than their judgements of the owners, so my puppy will be taken elsewhere from now on.

I would rate my experience with Bright Eyes & Bushy Tails as excellent. We brought our young cat Meeko there this past weekend as our normal vet was closed for the day, and it was an emergency. They were not only incredibly honest and knowledgeable but compassionate as well. We ended up having to keep him overnight, and they called to give us updates periodically and even called the next day to follow-up. We will be taking Meeko to Bright Eyes & Bushy Tails from now on for all of his health care. I would highly recommend!

Took my rabbit when she stopped eating. They were very helpful and kind. They were able to make an appointment the same day. I was also happy about the reasonable prices. Would definitely make this my first choice if we ever need to return to the vet.

Walking in, my first impression is that the place is clean and well-organized. I have been to some practices where I would question even bringing my pet inside. I was there for a consult, but I had already known what the diagnosis and treatment would be. They were very upfront and honest with how the process would go. I will say it was almost disorienting and a bit overwhelming when we started talking next steps. I needed a minute to digest everything. Hind sight is always 20/20. Anyway, my pet will be receiving treatment soon and they have been very accommodating and concerned with the condition of my pet. I wanted to wait until after my pet received the treatment to give my review but I have a special case. For those who are looking for someone to be their "furever" vet, I highly recommend this place.

Teddy, our mini-dachsund almost year old puppy, got into something while we were gone. We had someone look at him but they weren't super concerned with him, but after two days of not eating we thought we would reach out to BEBT and they recommended we come up right away. This was at 10 at night and from the time we walked in till the next evening when we picked him up, everyone we talked with was awesome!! We felt they gave him the care that we would give our own children, which Teddy is like a child to us, but they took xrays, did blood work and explained our options including giving us an estimate on the route we wanted to take and then went thru with it. We weren't forced to do anything by them at all, but they got him back on the right track with meds, etc and he is much improved the day after we picked him up. I would recommend BEBT to anyone.
