VCA Swengel Animal Hospital is a fantastic place to take your pets! We've always received the best care for our pets there. They really do a great job with nervous animals and always try to make them as comfortable as possible. They even helped us to get our pets moved to Europe (filled out forms and walked us through the entire process). Go here, they are great!

My dog Roxie was in excruciating pain and her rear legs had stopped working. I called Southside due to a recommendation, They could not help right away they recommended VCA and I got her in. The vet a distant manner, cold and unconcerned with my questions. He checked her out and said 'sprain' then handed me off the a staffer and left. They charged me for some sort of dog safe pain killer and the visit. I was in a panic because my dog could not go potty without help and it caused her pain inspite of the medicine. I lost work time because I cared for her as best I could. I then called them when she was no better after the time they stated. The staffer said "we're closing just a moment' put me on hold and I assume they went home. I called and left a message and received no call back. I called another vet on 135 and explained what was going on and asked for help. They said they'd get her in early the next day. By then Roxie was feeling better. I found out from the vet that gave a damn and asked me a lot of questions that this was most likely macadamia nut poisoning from a damned cookie I'd fed her. She's been fine ever since.

I have been taking my dog there for 3 years and I enjoyed working with their team. I went to school for veterinary medicine and I have high standards for the care my pet receives, I was pleased with each visit to VCA Swengel I recieved, The staff remembered my pet even though we did not visit often so it made me feel special. Even though it can get a little pricey sometimes, it is worth it for the well being of my pet. I have since moved away from Indiana and I am currently shopping around for veterinary care, I must say I haven't been able to find a hospital that meets my standards! I miss you VCA swengel :)

I have a pup who just recently started coming off as aggressive when on a leash. They knew exactly what to do at VCA and took him away from me and to the back and he became so much more calm. They always answer my questions and take great care of my pup. These people truly care about my dog.

Best Vet on the Southside. I had used them several years ago when I had to have my beloved cat put to sleep. I will never forget the kindness they showed me and my cat that horrible day. I had requested his ashes and they provided me with a book of what your departed pet means to you, and a plaster cast of his paw print with his name and a card signed by the entire staff. That act of kindness at such a difficult time, meant the world to me. I had used Valle Vista to have my cat put down years later and it was such a different experience. No one there seemed to convey any form of sympathy except for the vet tech who had me sign the paper and pay prior to them bringing her back in prior to the service. I did receive a sympathy card from them 6 weeks after the procedure. It brought back all the sorrow that I had suffered. Swengel had the finest staff, and veterinarians in the City. They are always very kind and pleasant. The staff is always helpful and my Vet said she lived in Carmel but drives to their location because of their reputation. I have never had a negative experience there unlike Valle Vista which is literally around the corner from my house. I will never go back there. If you want your pet to be treated like you would treat them, then I cannot speak highly enough about Swengel and their staff. It is worth the drive from wherever you are. If you could rate them 10 stars then I would. It is worth the drive to US31 South.

Not a terrible place to take your pet. It’s clean and the people are very kind. We finally changed vets after paying an arm and a leg on multiple visits. Even just for routine visits for our puppy. Often spending $150 plus. Last straw was when the vet recommended surgery for our puppy because he had consumed some sort of clothing. The vet thought there “might” be something stuck in his intestines after looking at an X-ray. We declined the surgery and just had him take whatever medicine they gave us. What put me off about this was that they spun a paper around in front me to show me how much the X-ray and treatment was going to be like a car salesman. That was a year ago. Today we met with a boarding place and found out he was missing one of his shots. The manager recommended we call a vet and see if we could just go in, get the shot, and get out. We gave VCA one more chance. When we called, they said it was wrong to just come get a shot without doing a full check up. They wanted us to spend more money. We called another clinic, they said we could walk in and get it done, no problem. Although I think VCA does good work, I think they are more concerned about putting money in their pockets. I feel they’ll jump on any opportunity to take advantage of someone that’s worried about the health of their pet. I would not recommend bringing your pet here unless you’ve got the money to spend on whatever they recommend you “need.” We’ve saved countless dollars since switching vets.

When I moved to Indianapolis from Tennessee, I needed to find a veterinary office for my 11 year old Siberian Husky. It was important that I find and office that would respect my wishes to keep my dog on the herbal medication that a previous veterinarian had suggested after my dog's 2 bouts with cancer. My dog is not a big fan of male veterinarians, so I was very concerned when our first appointment was scheduled with Dr. Vilanueva. The doctor was great with my dog! He came in the room and immediately sat down on the floor with his back against the wall and let my dog come to him! It was great! The staff have all been very kind and loving with my dog and they went out of their way to set up a prescription with the company that sells the herbal medicine so that I can call directly to the company and have refills shipped directly to me. I would highly recommend VCA Swengel Animal Hospital!

The vets here are very nice and thorough. Dr. K made sure to answer all my questions about nutrition and even spoke to me on the phone about it after my appointment; a thing some health care professionals would balk at. I have also found the vet techs very kind and compassionate. But I have to say that the receptionists there are the rudest group of women I have ever encountered. They are rude on the phone, rude in person. After making an appointment or going there I nearly always come away from the exchange with them fuming with anger! Dr. K, please fire your bitchy receptionists.

Swengel VCA - Cinderella story... The reception’s station is filled by three wicked staff members who are named: Bitter, Condescension, and Egotistical. The veterinarian or Cinderella truly loves animals and has the purest intentions. Please my fellow citizens don't be pushed away at the treatment of the receptionist staff. The sisters have become cynical for reasons only they know. When you call the sisters will be rude. When you arrive the sisters will snarl. When your appointment is complete their sanctimoniousness glare will insights thoughts of depression. My request is that you think of Cinderella, she hasn’t any blame for the sister’s ill will. The veterinarian (Cinderella) is kind and thoughtful. In her arms, she cares for how you’re handling your pet’s aliments and has empathy for your pet. Remember that medicine is a practice and that she only wants to help. I highly suggest in fact beg you all to look past the wicked sisters and trust your pet's needs to Cinderella...

They got me right in the same day I called for my cat. The tech, Joseph, was very kind and listened in detail to everything I had to say. The vet was very kind as well. The thing I appreciated the most was the phone call the next day to check on my cat and another follow up call today to make sure she was doing well. Overall, I'm very pleased.

I have had good experiences here and was very satisfied with the treatment that I get here for my kitties. With each visit, the vet techs will print out a treatment plan and the estimated costs associated with your needs, so pretty much no surprise expenses, which is very nice considering I have had unwanted surprise expenses before at other vets. Also, I love that the staff will take the time and give me information and educate me on what kind of concerns I have with my cats. I feel like my animals are in good hands here and will continue taking them to see Dr Swengel. Thanks so much!

Very disappointed with this practice, and myself. Brought my cat in to be seen and they did some bloodwork. Was told on Monday, Sept 25th that my cat was diabetic and we needed to set up a follow up appointment for education and to start treatment. I offered up that I had the next day, Tuesday available, and my next day off would be Friday. I was told that Friday was fine since his other tests were ok. We noticed a change on Tuesday and called the vet. They told us to try the specialty food they were planning on prescribing. Over the course of this week, we called the vet on at least 4 occasions expressing our concerns over my cat deteriorating. We were assured that the Friday appointment was fine. My cat passed 7 hours before his appointment time. I was pissed and distraught. When the vet called and offered to review the case with me, I thought perhaps they cared and miscommunication/mistakes occurred, I called them back to say I would like that review. I called back on Tuesday to remind them once again that I wanted this case review, and they could not even find me in their system. Once I started to tell my story, they "found" me again and relayed they would pass the message on to call me as soon as possible. Well it is now two full days later and still no call back. My mind has cleared, and I am no longer delusional that this was some unfortunate misunderstanding. They just don't give a damn about you or your pets.

I have gone to Dr Swengel and his associates for 19 years and can't say enough kind words regarding the care and treatment my pets have always received from them. From the moment you walk in until you leave you are made to feel as if you are the only patient there. Everyone is kind, courteous and knowledgeable. I have recommended the hospital many times over the years without hesitation and I will never take my fur babies anywhere else.
