Took my dog in because she was losing weight and not eating, they found the problem and had to do surgery right away. They stayed late and got it done and saved her life. They are polite and helpful.

We love taking our beagle to Dr. Thunell. He is very friendly, caring and responsive when our beagle has been sick. We drive all the way from the north side of Indianapolis because of the great service at Shelbyville Road Veterinary Hospital.

Wonderful staff. Danny, Whitney, and Tracy were so helpful and friendly on phone and in person! I call a lot and they are very patient with me. I’m probably driving them crazy. Dr. Timothy performed surgery on our cat. He has been great with pain management. Kitty seems to be recovering really good. One drawback is they are soooo expensive. He’s up to date on all vaccines required, but they wouldn’t touch him without giving him feline leukemia. He’s a house cat and I didn’t want to give him that. So after testing for it Added another $100. First time here so they added $49. For a getting to know you exam. I would think that should be done before all surgeries anyway. One reason why I gave them 4 stars instead of 5. But maybe it’s true. You get what you pay for. I also think they should throw in surgery a follow up visit. It would only take 5 minutes to look at him and would give pet owners peace of mind. Overall a nice place to take your pets. I’ll still take kitty to FACE for vaccines and check up to save money. But if something seems wrong with him I would not hesitate to come here.

I took my dog to this vet due to him having stomach issues. I generally go to a different vet but my significant other went ahead and made an appointment at this location since they could get him in earlier in the day. I have to repeat what others have said here in that the assistants are wonderful but the vet seemed genuinely disinterested and rushed. He seemed more interested in running every test possible to get an answer than trying to pinpoint what it might be in the first place. The price definitely felt steep to come to the conclusion to just give my dog fluids and nausea medication. He kept referring to my dog by the wrong gender as well and as I was getting ready to leave it almost seemed like the vet was getting ready to speak badly about his patients. He was speaking with another staff member in the lobby and mid sentence saw I was in the room, paused, and seemingly changed the second part of what he was saying. It's really a shame because everyone except the vet was great but when it's him I'm going to see- I unfortunately can't recommend this place to anyone. I'll definitely be taking my dog to the same vet as my cats from now on.

Staff is great but worst vet in town!! Will pressure you to do so much more than is necessary!! Like everyone else has mentioned, steer clear of this money pit!! Will never return again after wife basically came home in tears since he would not listen to a darn concern from the pet owner. He just sees dollars and runs unnecessary test to collect them!!!! And to heck with you and your pets well being.

This place doesn't even deserve a star. It's a complete rip off. I wouldn't mind spending money on my beloved cat because you can't put a price on him. This place did stuff that was absolutely unnecessary just to charge you more and more. I was disgusted by the fact that how much money hungry these people could be! My cat didn't get better so we had to go to another clinic that I paid half the price and my cat was recovered. Never ever consider going there!

Took my puppy in for the $150 puppy package and walked out having to pay $305. After signing papers and getting the first round of shots, the vet took one look in my dogs ear and said "ear infection". Next thing I knew, they were charging me a fortune to aggressively treat my dog with injections, steroids, antibiotics, special washes and ear drops. My dog doesn't have an ear infection, he had a little bit of gunk in his ear. No inflammation, no redness, no itching, no head shaking. There isn't anything going on that justified the approach taken by this vet. This has been confirmed by a secondary source. I should have done my research because after looking into it, many people have been suckered into this same package with exactly the same result. Now I'm stuck taking my dog back two more times before I can switch vets because I paid up front for the 3 part package and I have to finish out the vaccines. After that, I won't be going back.

We have been coming here for years with our small herd of beasts. Everbody here is wonderful, kind & compassionate. They treat our animals the same as we do, like family. Have highly recommended them for years.

Friendly, helpful nurses but Dr is more focused on sales than your pet. He wanted to know where I bought my dogs heartworm medicine and why its been close to 3 years since we've seen him before he was concerned about looking at the simple alergic reaction my dog had.

Brought my puppy in for shots, as I got a free visit for adopting. They cleaned the ears ($20) without my request. The doctor asked about the overall acclimation of the puppy and I said he was doing well with some potty issues . He suddenly pursued the theory that the puppy that a UTI. I never showed concern or interest in that issue. They quickly shifted into getting a urine sample and told me they could only do so through a catheter. By then end, I was told I owed over $500 for my FREE office visit. I should have left when I waited almost an hour past my appointment time to see the vet. The place was dirty and run down. I had questions about the credentials of some of the staff as they seemed very inexperienced. I keep seeing reviews and posts about others having the same experience and even worse. Please avoid this office for the safety of your pets!! The staff offered no estimates for services at the end I was totally shocked at the bill. I asked them why in the world they would do all of this without consulting an owner!?! They said we don’t offer estimates without request. They are robbing people and harming their animals. I had to leave without the medications the doctor said my dog NEEDED after all of these tests because they demanded I pay for services before medications. They then tried to withhold my file as I went to a new vet the next day due to complications from the catheter process they used on the puppy. They tried to charge a transfer fee for the file until the new vet threatened to file a report against them based on what I was telling them. BTW— that vet Did file a complaint based on my story and the amount of unnecessary tests they saw in the file. I hate to see people and their animals suffer. This office has disabled Facebook reviews. Please beware and tell your friends to do their research before they go to this place !!

I made an appointment to have my chihuahua's teeth cleaned. The date was set and the price quoted for cleaning was estimated $428.00. I was told over the phone when making the appointment that a rabies shot was required which I expected to pay on top of the estimate for cleaning. I get to the appointment and was told at the desk the cost would be $594.61 because they had to vaccinate my dog with a canine influenza vaccine for $45.50 and other vaccines included in their canine yearly package fee priced at another $149.95 which was not included in their estimate they gave us. The only vaccine required by law is for rabies, yet they force pet owners to pay for worthless vaccines that actually create health problems for your pets. Vaccines for pets is a scam, and Shelbyville Road Veterinary Hospital is taking advantage of it. What really irritates me is they waited until I brought my dog in for his appointment before letting me know of all the vaccines they would have to give him and charge me with for him to be seen there. They probably get away with gouging people at the last minute since they are already there, and probably get away with it some of the time taking care of little old ladys pets, but I refuse to be ripped off. This place is a joke. Find a different vet if you know whats best for you. On top of everything else, their facility is dirty.

Dallas Cole

Dirty. This place was so dirty that I was uncomfortable sitting in their reception area or letting my animal out of it's carrier. The examination table was also dirty and had two different kinds of animal hair on it while I was waiting forever for the vet. I ended up walking out. Even though this was supposed to be a free visit due to adopting through PetSmart, I'd prefer to go somewhere cleaner and pay.

Monica Searcy

Aweful vet. I went in to put my dog down because she had started having accidents in the house and had signs of Cushings disease. I was very tearful and had my teen kids with me. Unfortunately I don’t have an endless supply of money to put into pets. Not an easy decision. He made me feel aweful and suckered me into tests although I didn’t agree to all of the tests he wanted. $200 later no answers and home with my dog to have more accidents and prolong the inevitable. He was so unprofessional laying across the table and yawning while interrupting me. Even my children asked if he was a true vet because he was so rude! Do not go here!

They did a great job with our kitty. The techs were sweet and helpful and the vet was great as well. They did not run unnecessary tests and explained exactly what he thought what wrong with my fur baby. They even called a few days later to check on her. I would recommend this pet clinic to my friends. Thank you for taking care of my baby!

I have taken my animals to this vet for several years. The staff has always been great as well as the doc (including the ones he has covering when he's out). Our family has worked with other vets in the past. The prices here are comparable to others. Many times over the years, this vet has gone above and beyond for our pets. One example is when the staff and doc invited us to come in during off hours to love on our critically ill puppy. That meant the world to us, as we were able to hold him before he died. One of our other dogs got into something on December 23rd and had an allergic reaction. The staff not only guided me in what to do from home (via rapid fire texts), but the vet and the office manager met us in the clinic on Christmas Eve (yes, they were closed) to give meds to help with the dog's itching and swelling. The vet told us not to worry about it and wished us a Merry Christmas. It's wonderful to go to a vet where we and our pets are known and receive excellent transparent care.

If I could give zero star review, I would have done it. My dog went in for an ear infection. The so call “vet” told me my dog needed a $140 blood work, $50 for the visit and $30 for the ear test. The “vet” end up doing other procedures and gave a shot without my consent. I end up with a $370 bill. This place is not only dirty, but unethical and I am surprised they are allowed to practice medicine in our furry family members.

Our Lucy was very ill and our regular vet was not open. The office was very accommodating in getting her an appointment the same day. When the doctor took her blood he noted some very bad indicators and listed our options, one of which was to have her put down. The option we ended up taking was IV fluids for a few days, to see if she would respond. Long story short, that was June 2019 and it is now mid-Sept. We have Lucy with us and she is enjoying her life again. She is still an old dog, but is living a comfortable life. Without the efforts of this doctor and staff, we would have had to say goodbye to our beloved dog in June. We know we only bought a little more time with her so we do all we can to let her know love her.

WARNING: Please stay away from this place. My friend took their bulldog here to get his nails trimmed and they muzzled and suffocated him to death. This place is supposed to save animals and can't even trims one's nails without killing it. Please stay away...

We took our dog here until he develop cancer and had to be put to sleep. They were wonderful about that. And now two years later we have a kitten and they're so sweet with him. The vet is really good and knows his stuff. The staff are kind and gentle with animals and owners

Very little consideration for the customer. Over priced - extremely sales oriented at every visit to sell other products. They took my puppy out of the room the other day to trim hair around her face to help with what might be causing the problem and came back in and had given her a shot as well without mentioning that need beforehand. Also, I was told last visit that if my pets condition came back again for a 3rd time, that a referral to an Ophthalmologist would be necessary or recommended. I called yesterday and asked the office girl if she could get me that referral information to not receive a call back. When I called back again today, she got the vet on the phone who said he'd need to see her again. I explained I was not interested in another vet visit for this condition with him and reminded him of our last conversation and asked him to honor his referral of an Ophthalmologist and he questioned me on whether I had the pets eye hair trimmed back and then said the nurse claimed I said something different and then literally said to me very demanding - which story is true? I was literally accused of lying. He basically decided to hold the referral hostage pending another office visit to him. I am done with this place and I have an extreme tolerance for companies that may fall short in the customer service arena. I also notice many reviews referring to this vet as overbearing with sales which has been and continues to be evident today for me as well. The office staff is great but they are under the command of a man who lacks a bedside manner.

Shelbyville Road Veterinary Hospital earns five stars from me! The staff is super friendly and are always helpful. Dr. Thunell diagnosed my 14 year old cat with kidney disease 4 years ago. To combat his illness, we've been giving him Sub-Q fluids since 2014. I'm not able to hold my cat still while I try to give fluids so I take him to their office. The whole team really cares for him. I'm thankful for Dr. Thunell's early diagnosis. The fluids have really helped and is still giving him a quality life at 18 years old. Thanks so much! A+++

This was a nightmare. I took my cat to this vet because he had a simple skin rash that was itching him. I came away paying over $295.00. Our appointment was for 11:30am we never saw the vet until over an hour later. The vet would not give him any medicine until I agreed to a $110.00 kidney test to check his kidneys. I thought cleaning of the ears was included in the office visit fee and its not. Then he prescribes medicine that cost over $50.00 to treat the rash. I would not suggest going to this vet unless you are ready to pay for tests that dont need done. He was not professional and didn't like explaining why he wanted to do so many tests.

Very professional and knowledgable

Prompt and cheerful attention for annual check up and immunizations. Clear explanation of any questions. Cost a little steep especially for teeth cleaning.
