My brother turned me onto this place. Great staff who know their stuff. Don't even pretend you're going to get by cheap, but it's the same you pay at most other places, and they know how to take care of your needs and your dogs. And they don't sneer when you mention that you've been feeding your dog Wal Mart's best -- okay, they don't cheer, but they got class and they have the best interest of your pet in mind. Go there.

Sure a Wonderful Doctor though retired now. He gives now to the Public! Yes, He invites children from Boys and Girls Club yearly to come to his home and fish for the day! T-Shirts are given to each children "Take a Kid Fishing"! What a AWESOME contribution to Our Youth of today! They love His grounds all the animals and of course catching fish, in his well stocked pond. It is a Catch and Release Day! Sportsmanship and even has a few competitions for them! If you want the absolute best care for your pet this is the place to go. The vets are wonderful, caring, and knowledgeable. Dr. Steve is awesome when it comes to tough surgeries. The ladies at the front desk are efficient, sweet and understanding. I dearly miss the great Dr. Larry McAfee who recently retired and especially want to thank him for the kindness and caring he has shown to both me and my mom during the loss of our beloved dogs. I had sugar gliders for years, and they had always came here. Two of mine suddenly fell very ill and I did not know what to do. I called frantic trying to get them brought in quickly without an appointment because I feared if I waited it would be too late. The staff said they'd call me back within an hour, and never called. I tried getting ahold of someone but no one would give me answers. Shortly after, my two babies passed. At this point I was livid and I called to tell them, and the staff was rude as all get out to me when I had JUST lost my two gliders, that meant the world to me. So I told her off and I will NEVER go to the vet again. I do not recommend.

We have been taking our animals to McAfee Animal Hospital for about 20 years. The care here is always consistently great. They truly care about animals and people too! My experiences over my 20 yrs. with all the veterinarians at McAfee’s is, they will always go above and beyond to help your pet! It has always been this way and I have always felt my pets were getting the best care possible. The entire staff are always extremely helpful & caring. We also board our dogs here and it has always been a positive experience for our dogs and for us. The boarding staff have always been wonderful. We always miss our dogs and worry about them but the staff posts pictures on Facebook and when we return to pick up our special children dogs, they are so happy and healthy that we wonder if they had too much fun at McAfee’s!

DO NOT GO HERE!! Staff if awful at communicating anything. The doctor flakes out of appointments. Here was my experience: We made it clear we were from out of town and wanted to come here for the type of crop dr. Steve does on dog ears. They only said we would need 2 appointments!! So that is all we booked with them. 1 appointment for the cropping and 1 appointment for the suture removal. The doctor did not see us after surgery at all! We made the suture removal appointment when we booked the surgery from the beginning.. and then we were told the doctor was not coming in that day. So we had a inexperienced vet tech taking out stitches and re-taping our pups ears. With a doctor unfamiliar with the whole procedure. They also sprung it on us that we should have came in for suture removal and then retaping a couple days apart (which was not possible because we were from out of town and didn’t have time to plan that)! So in all we actually needed 3-4 appointments. 1 crop surgery. 2 untaping (they never told us about) 3 Suture removal apt and 4 retaping (they also never told us about). We traveled to go to this vet and were very disappointed in how poorly the staff handled any of this. Extremely unacceptable!! I would never recommend putting your animal in their hands.

The only vet around that treats exotic animals besides cats and dogs. McAfee had taken a vacation two years ago when I had my (movie star) skunk. I was forced to take him to Portage where they fed him cat food witch caused his liver to fail! I wouldn't take my pets anywhere but McAfee ever again! McAfee had treated my skunk for the first 9 years of his life and was in great health till i took him elsewhere!

I was stressed about this because my old lady has a lot of chronic issues and I have always felt pressed to spend, spend, spend and guilted for not doing so when I express the type of care I would like for my dog. ABSOLUTELY not the case here. We saw Dr. Brooke and I can honestly say I have never felt so comfortable and relieved after an initial visit with a new vet. Their communication is fantastic, their pricing is transparent, and I feel like I actually receive the information I need to make the best choices for my pet and I with a very informed friend giving us her advice. Really. I'm still kind of surprised about how positive my entire experience has been with McAfee, but I'm just thankful.

Best vet clinic in the area for pets, especially exotics. All of the vets are incredibly dedicated to their patients and will always do their best to answer questions and provide help in a timely manner even with their busy schedules. I have taken all of my exotics (skunk, lizards, tortoise, and chinchillas) to McAfee's for 10 years now and have always received excellent care even in emergencies. They have performed a spay on my skunk and a neuter on my chinchilla(both of which are rather difficult considering the species) and both surgeries went very well. Great place to go!

Horrible...DO NOT GO HERE!! I went to Dr. McAfee for over five years and I repeatedly asked about my dog's teeth issues and he repeatedly told me it was fine, don't worry about it. Today, after two other dental opinions, my dog had over 12 teeth and jaw bone removed before of advanced stage periodontal disease that Dr. McAfee should have caught years ago especially since I brought it to his attention. My dog's jaw may not function anymore and I will be filing charges against this animal hospital with the state board IMMEDIATELY!

Amazing. I got my first dog, Sage, in January of 2015. She was just 8wks old. Being a first-time pet owner, I was a little anxious. Dr. Danny was the first vet I met, and she was amazing. She treated Sage so kindly. The technicians loved Sage and were always prompt and courteous for all of my appointments. I met another vet, but I can't remember the gals name. Dr. Danny responded to emails when I was changing Sage's diet as she grew, and she helped remedy Sage's motion sickness via email as well. I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND this clinic.

We drive 97 minutes one way to bring our dogs to McAfee's. We own two greyhounds, and McAfee's is likely the best vet for this very unique breed in the entire state of Indiana. Our anxious, more reserved dogs actually don't seem to mind being poked and prodded, and it's clear from the minute you schedule the appointment to the minute you leave when it's over that every person there loves their job and loves every animal that comes in the door. We love all the veterinarians here, but we normally make a point to see Dr. Brooke, and she's incredible. Very open and honest, genuine, and is incredibly knowledgeable. On top of all that, McAfee's gives back to the community, and they do a ton of the work for the greyhound organization we got our dogs from, and they're just good people. Can't recommend them enough!

I have visited Andrea at McAfee for many times now, and I cannot be grateful enough to her for her friendly dog oriented service (sure we, the pet parents are the clients, but the animal is the real client receiving the service, right). Vets who have a truly big heart fo the animal and their well being are hard to come by. Andrea is one of those rare ones. Whatever the issue, the particularities or nerves of your dog, Andrea is all ears to learn and adjust her service to your pet. In addition, you’ll appreciate her honest evaluation of what may or may not be needed for your dog. We love our pets, but some things just are not needed. I have been going to Macaffee for 4 years since I started working w rescue. And I started taking my own dogs. Today I had a sick dog mine!! A patient for 4 yrs and was treated like garbage! I respectfully called to tell them my dog was coughing and I didn’t know if they wanted me to bring in a back door what I got was treated in the PARKING LOT!!! Given meds ! For what ? I have no idea they did not know what was wrong w her never offered to do blood work nothing!! Ok bye!! I'm not sure why some of these reviews are horrible. McAfee Animal Hospital is AWESOME!! I have been taking my dogs there for 9 years, not a single complaint. They have never tried to get me to purchase extra things or do unnecessary procedures, in fact when my Giant Schnauzer had ACL repair 8 yrs ago it failed and Dr. Steve re did it at no cost to me. They are very passionate about animals. You get what you pay for, so if you want an in and out vet go to a Quack that won't take the time to listen to you or pay attention to your animal.I recommend McAfee to everyone!

The staff are rude. Was trying to get my little guy in and called. I thought I took one of my other pets there but it had to of been another vet. As soon as I said that and about to follow thru with the appointment I was making, she cut me off with a ‘okay bye’ and hung up the phone. I was livid!!!!! I didn’t even finish what I was saying. Dr. Vada and the rest of the staff at McAfee are AMAZING. My boyfriend and I were having trouble with our four month old puppy. She was very sick and the vet we had been taking her to shrugged off our concerns and prescribed the same "treatment" each time we took her in. After a month of the same symptoms and three separate trips to the vet, we decided that a second opinion was needed. Not only was Dr Vada attentive and listened to all of our concerns, but so was the vet technician. Everyone was friendly and helpful. They eased our mind and offered different solutions to our problem. Thankfully, our puppy's immune system fought off her bacteria problem and she is happy and healthy! I am so pleased with our decision to try out McAfee. They will be the animal hospital we choose to fix our puppy, and we will also be switching our three year old mix over to their care as well. Professional. Efficient. Tentative. Highly, highly recommend.

I have been going to McAfee Animal Hospital for over 16 years now, I drive 23 miles and about 45 minutes. I drive this because I went thru every vet in the Schererville area and found all lacking. Dr. Steve is the best of the best. He has always been there for me and my pets. Has never pushed me into doing something I didn't want too. I would and have recommended him to everyone that wants the best for their pet. 5 stars are not enough they are a 10 in my book

Dr. Brooke is literally the kindest, most knowledgeable vet I have ever encountered. My cat has asthma and she has been a life saver in coming with multiple ways to deal with her asthma that my vet at Vale Park never addressed. I was terrified to have her fixed because of the danger with the anesthesia. Dr. Brooke took xrays and blood work before the surgery; she used a different form of anesthesia for my cat and intubated her so they could control the breathing. She let us wait in a room while she performed the surgery because I was so nervous. She did an amazing job and was so sympathetic to my fear. I would give them a million stars if I could. She even called to check on my cat on her day off. To top it all off my cats surgery was $200 less than Vale park had quoted me. I am very protective of my animals- I trust Dr. Brooke with my animals completely. I seriously have never had a vet so dedicated, knowledgeable, and so supportive in my entire life. If you’re looking for a vet I wouldn’t look anymore. You will not find a better one. I stand by this review more than I ever have about any review in my life.

I love McFee Animal Hospital especially Dr Brooke. In the 80s we took our dogs there and Dr McAfee (her father) was awesome. In 2011 we brought two Yorkies into our family. We tried other vets because we live in Crown Point and none of them lived up to my memories of Dr McAfee. So in 2012 we starting taking them back to McAfee Animal Hospital. It was the best decision ever. They are so caring and kind to our beloved pets. I highly recommend them.

I've been taking my cats to McAfee for 15 years & have always felt they were getting not only the best of care, but LOVING care. Dr Brooke is my go-to vet, but all the vets and staff are wonderful. What more could I ask? They also take great care of many of our cats from Independent Cat Society & even make periodic visits to the shelter.
