We had taken our dog to this vet once. That visit was for routine checkup and shots. We were tired of paying huge bills to other vets, and this place was recommended as reasonably priced. The building is older and the interior is simple, but I didn't really care. I want my money to go for care, not overhead! The receptionist and vet tech were very kind and friendly. The dr. was direct and no nonsense, I was told pretty directly that my dog needed to lose weight. But, he really did, so the recommendation was right on the money. A year later our 12 year old dog seemed to get drastically ill very quickly. I called and made an appt. for the first day I wasn't working- 2 days out. Later the same day it was clear he was pretty sick. I called back and was able to talk to the vet and describe the problems our dog was having. The vet said I neeed to bring him in sooner than the appt. We took him in the next morning and left him there for the day for the vet to examine. The office staff called and left a message updating me on my dog's health. The vet didn't suggest lots of pricey tests- my dog had a temperature so he was treated for an infection. I was able to ask questions and get answers that were direct and focused on the health of my dog. We took hiim home and watched him as the antibiotics kicked in. It took several days, but our dog soon was back to his old self! I really appreciate the quick, reliable care they gave our dog- and the information that I was given by the doctor and staff to help treat my dog for his illness.

I have never written a negative review for an experience, but I think this is an appropriate opportunity to do so. I took my dog to Keystone Pet Hospital due to my dog becoming suddenly/significantly ill of unknown nature. She is an indoor, healthy, and very well-cared for dog. I arrived at the vet obviously distraught at how unusually ill my dog was. The vet tech asked me a few basic questions before the vet came into the room. Without touching or even looking at my dog, or asking me a single question the vet had already decided on the appropriate treatment. I had stressed my concern regarding her constant/bloody vomiting/diarrhea and significant weakness/fatigue, but the vet reassured me that a nausea injection and nausea medication was the appropriate treatment for a "stomach bug" and to return the next day if she didn't improve (still never looking at or touching my dog). After returning home, I spent the next ~4-5 hours caring for and loving my dog while trying to contact different vets for a second opinion... until my dog passed away. I understand that there are a lot of things that could have gone wrong and medicine is not always black and white, but I feel that more attention could have been paid to my concerns and my dog (as simple as that sounds). I am a doctor, but not an animal doctor and this is not my specialty. I can't help but feeling that the vet was negligent in caring for my dog and more could have been done to prevent her passing. After she passed, I returned to the vet and the office staff was very considerate and caring to me during an emotional time (the vet was already gone for the day). The following week I stopped in to ask about a potential diagnosis/educated guess - their response was that they didn't know and that "she was just too weak to fight it off." Now I am left with a hole in my heart, a feeling that I could have done more, and unanswered questions. I tried to get her appropriate care during a tough time, but unfortunately I came up short. Cherish and love your pets. She was my best buddy and I will forever miss her!

Friendly good prices for vaccinations.

I took my pup in for vaccines and for help with a skin condition. Dr. Brett is terrific; he identified the problem right away and was friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. The pricing is wonderful and no one in the office tried to upsell me once -- a breath of fresh air. The doctor didn't even charge me for the office call. So what about the wood paneling? I like it.

For about 10 years, I trusted Dr. Johnson and his staff to provide exceptional care for my 3 beloved pugs – from annual checkups to emergency services to boarding. One dog was mostly blind and deaf, and I knew when I boarded her there, they would treat her with extra special care (and actually doted on her). When they recently learned she had passed, we received heartfelt handwritten messages from several staff members and not long after a note that a donation that had been made in her memory to an animal health foundation. Once Dr. Johnson told me he kept his office in the same neighborhood and offered low cost vaccinations and affordable vet services because he believed that everyone deserved to be able to afford to be a responsible pet owner and get quality care. I highly recommend Keystone Pet Hospital because of the extra care and personal attention they give.

When my 11 year old dog started having diarrhea, I immediately drove to Keystone Pet Hospital to make an appointment. When I called the line would say "I'm sorry, there is no one to take your call, please press zero to leave a message". When you pressed zero, it just looped the message again, hence why I drove there. The first visit went okay. Although, Dr. Johnson barely made eye contact with my dog, let alone touch her. He gave her a few meds to help stop the diarrhea and gave me canned food for her to have. I had to take her back for another follow up because she still had diarrhea and was sent home with more of the same meds, again did not even acknowledge. A few months later, she is now constipated. I take her in for another visit and explain that I had been giving her pumpkin to try to loosen things up a bit. The vet tech told me to stop immediately (?) and made a weird face when she felt my dogs stomach. Dr. Johnson came into the office about 10 minutes later and tells me to give her pumpkin and metamucil. I explained to him that I had already been giving her the pumpkin and he just replies with "huh.. that sound have loosened her up" and walked out. AGAIN not even acknowledging my dog. I went to a second vet to get another opinion and turns out she has an impacted colon and an infection in her uterus. She is scheduled to have her spay surgery as soon as possible. If I had not gone and got a second opinion, my dog would have DIED due to his negligence and not taking my concerns seriously. I will never go back to this office again! He relies completely on his vet techs to do the diagnosis and does not listen to the owner, at all. I ask you this : Would you take a child to a pediatrician who ignored your concerns and barely acknowledged your child? I absolutely would not.

I would highly recommend this vet as your pet caretaker. It was a total new experience for me as a pet owner. I have been coming to Keystone Pet Hospital since November, and I am very satisfied with my services. Also, if I just call and have a general question or concern the staff is always pleasant and helpful. Thanks for taking care of my Louie!

We regularly board our puppy here, and she loves it almost more than being home. Prices are reasonable, and we can't say enough about how wonderful the staff is!

Sue Rice

My dog Mona did well after her surgery and my other three rescue dogs have had great care at very reasonable prices.

Mandi Irwin

Was charged $235 for my dogs first visit. Vetenatian made no eye contact with me. Never tested my dogs stool, and less then a week he has parasites in his stool. Don't recommend.

Debbie Beatty

They have been great with my dogs. We lost one to cancer. They were so caring and helpful during the process. We have our other dog and they are also great with her.

I recently adopted a cat from the shelter and wanted to get a well check to make sure that he was in good after he was sick in the shelters care. Although the staff was nice, I felt like the appointment was extremely rushed, being a brand new client I was only there for about 15 minutes. I even had to ask the vet to listen to my cats heart, his response being "oh cats this age usually don't have issues" um well cats can have a heart murmur at any age and if I'm paying $45 for an exam at least present you're looking my cat over. He didn't look at his teeth and was barely in the room long enough for me to ask any questions. If you want a thorough pet exam do NOT visit this clinic.

They Killed my dog too! I had a bad feeling about this place too. I took my puppy here to be spayed and it took her forever to heal. One month later, she was dead. It appeared she had a heart defect. I'm pretty sure that most vets would have detected it when she got her first surgery. This place is a dump!

The staff was very kind and compassionate. They helped me with my sick cat. We had been calling all the nearby vet offices in desperation on a Saturday after most places walk in hours had already ended. The staff was really nice and told me to bring her in, even though the vet wasn't there, and the vet tech would do what she could to help her. My little kitty didn't end up making it, as she was far too sick, but I was sent a beautifully thoughtful "In Memorium" card in the mail.

They are very loving people and care about your pet. It’s hard to find someone who cares about the family. NOT THE MONEY!!!!!!!!!!!!

Loraine White

Good service, straightforward about what your options are.

As pet owners I feel that we should be able take our love ones to see the Vet and believe that the staff have been properly trained to work and care for our pets. BEWARE ITS NOT THAT CASE THERE. All Vet Techs are trained to draw blood from a animal from their vein. Well, there the Tech just takes the needle and and sticks it in the pets arm without trying to find a vein. So, she's just poking and sticking the needle in the poor animals arm until she she's blood going into the needle. Now, this is after 5 or 6 sticks into the pets arm. Now, whatever blood she can get out of the arm. Even if it's come from where she may have gotten a little from the area after she's pulled the needle out and it drips from the pets arm onto the table. She will then take the needle and try to get the little that fell onto the table up through the needle going into the tube! What's wrong with this picture? She's testing the blood that went onto the table. Wow! That blew me away. It's the same way with urine samples. Pet urinates on the floor. So, she figures that she needs that urine to run labs. So she then takes the needle places it on the floor and uses the urine that's on the floor to test. Wow! Also, it hurts us enough when we have to put our loved ones down. Due to an illness, old age or a unfortunate accident. When you leave your pet there after saying your good byes. Well, you think your love one is going to be put to sleep in a comfortable manner. Well, I witnessed her trying to put the needle in the dogs heart to administer the medicine to put the dog asleep. How CRUEL! After so many pokes and not locating his heart. She then takes the needle and just sticks it in his arm without finding a vein. She thinks she's going to get lucky after so many sticks and get the vein. By, then I'm burning up. I told her to get the Clippers and shave a little hair off the dogs arm to locate a vein. After I told het that. I left the room in tears. Mind you when people are being executed for a God Awful Crime! Do they take the needle and stick them in the heart or stick them several times until they see blood. Nope, but here she is doing that to innocent pets. She also had a Intern standing there assisting her. That night I went home so livid. Also, earlier that week a dog had died on the table while she was doing his dental cleaning. Now, imagine taking your dog to get his teeth cleaned and when you returned to pick him up you are told he passed. Now, her excuse for the dogs deaf was that the owner didn't really tell her how old the dog was. But, everybody knows that if you want to get some idea about a dogs age YOU LOOK AT THEIR TEETH. That story didn't go well with me! Now you decide where you want you pet to go for excellent care.

Ok, so they aren't in the most beautiful space, but they the best place we've EVER taken our own pets (4 cats and 3 dogs) as well as many, many fosters over the last 6 years. In fact, many local rescues go to Dr. Johnson because he is all about making sure you can afford to take care of your 4-legged family members, NOT nickel and diming you as other reviews have stated. Would love to know where these people have gone before, because as a former client of Broad Ripple Animal Clinic, and Michigan Road, I can honestly say I've recieved better service and for waaaay less than we were ever charged before. Dr. Johnson is a bit brusk, but he really does care. As for those who've lost a pet, I truely am sorry. However, anytime anyone is put under anesthesia (2 or 4 legged) there are always risks.

I do not recommend this pet hospital for any services. Extermely rude and beligerent staff toward not only me but representatives of my vet and the vet herself when seeking clarification on a proceedure. Records requested by vet on monday are completely different than the set sent on friday when a treatment was questioned. Falsifying records.. really??!! Just because they're animals DOES NOT mean they deserve substandard care! Not to mention we were told ears were fine and no hearing issues yet the records show absolutely NO documentation showing ears were checked. Had they been checked like they claimed, the severe infections in both ears would have been caught! Save yourself the agravation and take your pet elsewhere.

Wonderful experience from start to finish. Friendly, animal first focused staff, and very to the point veterinary services at very affordable as well. This will be our vet from now on.

Awful rude service. We took our dog in for a heart worm treatment and told the receptionist about his severe separation anxiety. She proceeded to brush us off. The following day we received a call from Animal Control informing us that the vet clinic lost our dog the day before. They did not call Animal Control until almost 24 hours after he escaped. They refused to take any blame for the lost dog. If it weren't for the Indy Lost Pet Alert organization we wouldn't have been able to find our boy. Needless to say, the service we received was unacceptable, and we will not be returning there.
