Staff is always friendly and professional. They know me and my pet by name. They are caring and take steps to make everyone (including your pet) as comfortable as possible.

I've been coming here for at least 17 years. Over that period they have cared for the nine dogs that have shared my life. When we get a dog it is a family member and our family has been fairly stable at 4 dogs for much of that time. The doctors are caring and respectful. The staff are quite competent. They know us and our dogs. Our dogs get the best care and I would not go anywhere else.

I can't think of anything you could have done better! You did an amazing job with Sissy, even when she was a puppy! Thank you very much!!!

I have boarded my pet 5 times now at Athens Animal Clinic and I can feel good going on my trips knowing that my pet is cared for in the BEST possible way. I can enjoy my trips and know that he'll be fine when I go to pick him up to go home. They also take care of his vaccinations and medical care. What better place is possible?!? I trust Athens 100% and I'll use them in the future after taking such good care of my pet. THEY ARE THE BEST! I give them a 10 out of 10...

Our youngest is having difficulties with her hip/back. It is great to have not only the technician to follow-up, but to also have the Vet take time out of their busy schedule to also make a call.

Vanessa Kennedy

Highly recommended. They treat your pets like their own. Their fees are very reasonable.

I went to Athens Animal Clinic on the recommendation of a friend; her cats go there, and my cat had what appeared to be a large zit (it turned out to be a rodent ulcer) on his lower lip. I first went to the clinic in Sept. 1, 2015. It seemed OK -- front desk people not super chipper, weird smell and TONS of fur on the floor. The vet techs were nice enough. But, OK. The vet, Dr. Janelle, has a tone I can only describe as condescending. It was like a sales pitch for more services delivered by the most awkward 4-H presenter ever. Everything was followed with a rude giggle. My cat is VERY overweight, I feed him HORRIBLE food (Whiskas wet food, Purina Beyond dry food). At the end of her spiel, I felt like the worst cat owner ever -- never mind that I brought my cat in for a zit on his lip. OK, I said, maybe I am too sensitive. She seemed to handle my cat OK and we all have our idiosyncrasies. I'll have his teeth cleaned here; if it doesn't go well, we'll look for another vet. The cat went in for his teeth cleaning in late September. Before going over ANYTHING with me -- procedure, pain meds, etc. -- they made sure they charged my credit card. The vet tech, who had an attitude that could only be described as stank, explained to me about giving the cat his pain medication and feeding him. The vet tech put him in a carrier, so I did not notice that he still had a bandage on his paw when I picked him up. When he got home, I found the bandage -- surgical tape -- and thought it was odd. About an hour later, I saw that there was something underneath the bandage. It was a needle/port for an IV. My father helped me remove the bandage and the IV port. I called the vet's office and they are aware/have apologized. The vet tech apologized in a separate call. That is all that I was offered. Apologies do not help much. I would also note that the vet, once I got her on the phone, almost gleefully corrected me when I called the needle left in my cat's arm and IV. It is, she said, a catheter. I said, I don't care what it is, I had to pull it out of my cat's arm. I am always hesitant to criticize local businesses. In this case it is truly merited. Based on my first visit to this vet's office, I was hesitant to return based on the vet's condescending tone and general lack of bedside manner. But, I said, maybe I should be less sensitive. She seemed OK with my cat. I know now that I should have gone with my gut. This is a very ugly thing to do to a pet owner.

We got 2 kittens from the Humane Society. Both of them ended up having a bit of a sneeze/cough/wheeze going on, so we took them to Athens. The staff were awesome with the kittens. They provided us with top notch service and many recommendations on what we need to to to properly care for our kittens. I felt like they truly cared about the pets and treated like the family they have become to us. I'd recommend Athens to anybody who needs quality pet care.

I put my trust in athens! The staff is so kind to my furry babes as well as the vets. Extremely thorough and newest medical breakthroughs they keep up with. My service dog has had knots I've felt and they do needle biopsies for they have removed a cancerous tumor. No need in putting my boy through unnecessary surgeries. They were so sympathetic when I have lost my kitty, Tory. I have found my outside cat, sugar plum dead in backyard and Shelbys dad came and put her in a bag so I could send her off to be cremated. So sweet of him. That's the type of folks you'll be dealing with, good people.

The staff here was so helpful, professional and kind. They were very gentle with both of my kitties. They also gave me some great tips and answers to questions that I hadn't received before with any other vet. Thrilled with my experience and will definitely opt for Athens for all our future appointments.

Steve Mitchell

Even with a sedative Trubel was afraid to enter the building and the ladies came to the parking lot to draw blood and give his vaccine. I am so glad he did not have a seizure again. Hats off to your great, caring staff.

Overpriced. The staff is caring when it comes to your pets, but not upfront about costs. Each time I've come in, they charged a $53 exam fee per pet. We specifically called in advance to make sure we weren't going in for an exam, only for vaccinations. They assured us they didn't charge an exam fee, and it would only be vaccinations. When I checked out, each pet was charged $53 for a wellness exam on top of the costs of vaccines. Why did we even bother calling in advance? Why not be upfront about the costs? We're relocating and will be providing vaccines ourselves in the future.

I've taken my animals here for years (dogs and a cat) and they are always very helpful and very knowledgeable about care and treatment. Dr Case is especially good with the animals. I would recommend them to anyone.

I brought my animals here initially because it has good reviews, however I'm looking for another vet now. The service is not very good and certainly doesn't make up for the negatives. It's overpriced, they charge you for services without telling you it costs anything (which is unforgivably lazy and careless), and I've never been seen on time--- usually I have to wait an hour, and almost never less than half an hour after my scheduled time. I do not recommend and will not be returning.

Fast service, and a great follow up on my dog! They are so good about calling after the appointment to check to see how my dog is responding to medications and treatment. If your looking for a warm fuzzy feeling from your Veteranarian go someplace else. IF you want a professional who knows her stuff, and genuinely cares about your pet, look no further!

So disappointed that this review is necessary, but my last few experiences at Athens have been awful. Dr. Kochert does not seem to care about me or my dogs and has the temperament of one who should not work with the public. When I go in her diagnoses are always worst case scenario, with no alternatives available. I went in with my puppy on a Friday who evidently has the beginning of hip dysplasia, while at the office I also noticed a rash on my dog's belly and asked about it. At the end of my appointment I left with a 10 month old pup who supposedly needed double hip replacement and a rash with open wounds that would heal itself. I asked for surgery alternatives, but was told there were none. The following Monday, after not seeing the puppy again, the vet called to tell me my dog had an infection on her belly and needed to have an antibiotic. In addition I was told that the place in Indianapolis that they use for surgery doesn't do this surgery so I'll need to go to Athens for x-rays, a place in Indianapolis for rehab/therapy for post-op, and another place in Indianapolis for the surgery. The price I was given was exceedingly high for my budget. So, I asked if there were any alternatives. Her tone was nothing shy of demeaning as she proceeded to tell me how shocked she was my puppy wasn't lame already and how this had to be done immediately. This was frustrating and concerning as this is the only vet my dog has ever seen and this 'major issue' went undiagnosed for 6 months and was only then discovered by me. Needless to say, I've found a new vet, who suggested we wait on the surgery until she is full grown. We are also going to try other options and not implement surgery as the first and only plausible option. We have had a few issues in the past with this same vet, and this was my last straw. Save yourself the second guessing and go to a different vet. Trust is so important!

Athens Animal Clinic is an outstanding example of what a vet clinic experience should be. It is a cozy clinic. Everyone in the office is warm and welcoming. All of the techs are knowledgeable and clearly enjoy what they do. Both veterinarians are comfortable to talk to and truly care about my cat and dog. They have both taken the time to explain any questions I've had, and really go out of their way to be honest, professional, and focused on the well-being of the animals. I cannot say enough kind things about Athens, and I'm so glad I chose to use this clinic over "bigger" clinics in the area.
