After a terrible experience at another vet, the Animal Hospital of Gurnee was recommended to me by a friend. My dog is not a pet, she is a member of the family, and the excellent service we receive here is a night and day difference from what I have experienced elsewhere. I drive an hour each way to go here, which should speak volumes about the level of care they provide.

I can't say enough about the care and support we have had from Animal Hospital of Gurnee! Dr. John has been there during very stressful times and has saved our horses. He is so caring, professional and so knowledgeable integrating naturopathic medicine with Western medicine. He saved one of our horses using stem cell therapy along with chiropractic to bring him back from a broken pelvis from a kick. Other vets said at best he would be yard art but because of Dr. John I am riding him again and he is sound and very happy. He saved another of our horses during a bad founder episode and with his expert care and sound advice and support to empower us by teaching us how to give injections and to be confident during the critical care period. She made it and I am now riding her again. He was there during the end of our older horse's final hours and helped assist to keeping him comfortable during what could have been a very painful and devastating departure. Whenever I need him he's been there! He's like a white Knight! He cares for our dog and cats also. We are so fortunate to have him and the staff at Animal Hospital of Gurnee to care for our beloved furry friends. Thank you so much!

If you want incredible bedside manner & Dr.s who care, John Sr. & John JR.Hanover are on the top of my list of compassionate and knowledgeable veterinarians who really know their job! I have to be honest in saying the manners and attitude of their front desk staff definitely has room for improvement. I have seen improvements lately as they are under new management as of the past six months or so. I have the recipient at times of the front desk staff showing NO compassion whatsoever. However, I attribute some of that to the mentality of generation X who were not taught that you don’t behave at work like you do at home or when talking back to your parents if I’ve questioned anything or interact with your peers when you don’t agree. The importance of not only being respectful to your elders & clients but the mentality of, “the client is always right“ doesn’t exist within the mind of a couple of ladies that are there to greet on take care of the clients. That’s not enough for me see any other veterinarian in the Lake County area because Dr. Hanovers is not only that good but a pleasure to see under any circumstance.

Absolutely AMAZING staff. We were making our way from Chicago to Northeast Wisconsin with a rescue dog who was behaving viscously. The staff here went above and beyond what they were required to assist us in getting safely home and getting the certification we needed. Not once did they ever act like we were a bother. They made us feel welcome. If we lived in the area this is who we’d take our pets to.

I travel from Texas 4-5 times a year for medical treatment. Often I don't have much notice when I have to be there. Every time I have been in the area the doctors and staff at this location have found a way to accommodate the needs of my four pets. Whether it be boarding, vaccinations coming due or pet health issues they find a way to work within my own doctors' schedules and eliminate stress from a stressful situation. You can't ask for more than that. Thank you!

They deactivated my acccount and wouldnt approve a order for heart guard that i needed. Wanted to charge me another $45 for office visit when i just spent $500 for dental services and office visit for a once over. Never again.

I am upset becuase I always brought my cat here. He was breathing funny about 6 months ago and I brought him in to get checked out. Of course when he was getting checked out he wasn't breathing funny anymore. They suggested he get his teeth cleaned which they had to check his blood etc, but didn't think there was anything wrong with him. Thursday I got home and he was laying on the floor in pain, bloated, foaming at the mouth and making horrible sounds. I rushed him to grayslake emergency hospital which they immediately asked to do an xray. They found that he had a serverly enlarged heart and his lungs were 75% full of fluids. If surgery was done his lungs could fill back up immediately and he only would have around 6 months to live, which he would still be in pain. He was only around 11 years old. It upsets me bc if Gurnee would have ran an xray, they would have found this and he could have been on meds and I would have known his days were numbered. Feeling lost.

Very good vet! I drive an hour to get to them, and it is worth every minute. Dr. Hanover Sr. makes me feel at ease with whatever procedures my Dobermans need. We also use them for our horses at work and Dr. Hanover is always available at a moment's notice! Thank you all for your love of animals!
