Just got back from our pup's first visit here. We moved to the city from the suburbs recently and have been looking for a good vet and this is 100% that place. The entire front desk staff was friendly and professional and so loving towards our pup and Dr. Simpson was PHENOMENAL with her. I love that she made our Evie feel so comfortable and she was thorough and kind and just everything we could ask for in a vet. We're excited to make this our pup's place of care for as long as we're in the area!
Tried taking my 17 year old cat here for a 1:30pm appointment and got there 15 minutes late because I had trouble finding parking and they refused to see us! Who does that?!? Apparently the heartless Dr. Simpson!!! DR. SIMPSON IS NOT AN ANIMAL LOVER SHE IS A PSYCHO AND SHOULD STOP SAYING SHE IS A VET BECAUSE SHE CLEARLY DOES NOT CARE ABOUT ANIMALS!!! I had prefaced upon making the appointment that my cat was showing signs of distress and probably needing to be put to sleep so I can not believe they turned us away knowing the cat was old dying and suffering. ALSO, THERE WAS NOBODY ELSE IN THE WAITING ROOM AND THEY DIDN'T CLOSE FOR ANOTHER 2 HOURS!!! It wasn't like there was a waiting room full of people and pets when I got there, litterly 2 people checking out. It was already a hard day knowing I was bringing in a pet who was dying and this place just made it worse. They didn't seem to care that on a Saturday afternoon they were forcing me to have to take her to an expensive ER 24 hour animal hospital. Luckily I was able to get the cat seen at a nearby BANFIELD PET HOSPITAL. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND DR. KIM AT BANFIELD in LINCOLN PARK. He and his assistant Panda were kind, compassionate and helped take care of me and my dying cat. I will never go back to South Loop "Animal" Hospital again and I would strongly recommend to not go there if you are thinking about it.
We could not be more pleased with the care our two dogs receive. To start, there is a high degree of modernity. The practice uses all the latest software and communications methods. In contrast is the warmth you feel the second you walk in. The reception staff is wonderful and the doctors are top-notch. If you're here wondering whether these people ought to be your vets, wonder no longer. They should be.
Dr Maria Manrique has seen our dog since the day we rescued her. She's very helpful, sensitive and loving to Charlie. Not to mention very patient answering ALL our questions. We've had nothing but good experiences at SLAH and would highly …

My 2 boys ARE family. Dr. Ojala never 'rushes' me and is willing to explain, educate, and make a care plan that we understand. Business is all about relationships and at the South Loop the service starts from the very friendly front desk when you open the door. AND they have FREE PARKING in front of the building for patients. The front desk remembers the boys names and I they greet us immediately. Dr. Ojala does not just perform a 10 second exam and tell you what she is going to do; she DISCUSSES any issues and listens to your concerns. I can't imagine being at another clinic...ever.
We have been using the South Loop Animal Hospital for two years since we got our Japanese Chin. Dr. Sanchez and all the staff are truly the best. They treat our dog like she belongs to them. She is always excited to go there. She had several knee surgeries performed by a Specialist and Dr. Sanchez went out of his way to call periodically to see how she was doing.
South Loop Animal Hospital is excellent. The service is always exemplary. Dr. Sanchez is our vet and he is amazing, but we have had service from the other vets and they are equally excellent. The entire staff demonstrates the same commitment and love toward our dogs as we do.
Full marks for Dr. Simpson. Will return.
Even after moving out of the South Loop we continue to bring out cat here to Dr. Ojala and her team. Everyone is so courteous and genuine in their passion for service.
Dr. Plourde and the South Animal Hospital have been so incredible the past 2 months that we've been visiting them since we adopted our new puppy. We've had a few issues/concerns since we adopted him and they've been really helpful and patient with us! They always call to check up and make sure everything is going well after our visits. We couldn't be happier with our South Loop vet choice!
My fiancee and I have been bringing our two cats here ever since we got them as kittens nearly two years ago. The staff is beyond amazing they are so friendly and caring. They do everything they can to make both you and your pet as comfortable as possible as well as being very understanding about payments.
Great experience. The staff is friendly, the facilities are clean, and the Dr's are caring, compassionate, and knowledgeable. Also a decent rate compared to some other area vets.
Friendly facility, clean. Be mindful of parking and pay attention because if your driving fast you might miss it.
We love Dr. manrique. Amazing bedside manner, out pup is always as comfortable as possible.
We've since moved out to the suburbs and I sooo miss the Dr.'s and staff at South Loop. The facility is state of the art too. You can't go wrong with your pet at this clinic.
Just got back from our pup's first visit here. We moved to the city from the suburbs recently and have been looking for a good vet and this is 100% that place. The entire front desk staff was friendly and professional and so loving towards …
The doctors are very knowledgeable & nice as are the nurses. Not only do they provide top care, but they are also affordable.
The only clinic I trust my pets with!
Wonderful service with great support staff and vets!
Great service
they won't refill my cat medication for his hyper thyroidism. He needs this to live! They told me he needed a 400$ teeth cleaning without even looking at his teeth! I had just had his teeth cleaned somewhere else! They have wasted hours and days of my time as well as the money I spent there to get a prescription for my cats meds, They are very close to my home but I wont go back to a place with such terrible service that treat both the owner and pet like crap. NOT WORTH YOUR TIME!
We have always had great experience with SLAH - all of their staff and specifically Dr. Sanchez. They always make you feel like your pet is in their best interests, and Dr. Sanchez will personally call and follow up after appointments to see how our dog is doing. We moved out of the south loop a few years ago, but continue to go there because of the wonderful experience we've had. I would recommend SLAH to anyone!
Great Place, feels like family
Fantastic, small place with top notch Veterinarians. Extremely friendly
Out standing experience with all of the Vets and Staff of South Loop Animal Hospital. We have two cats one soon to be 18 years old who has developed several medical problems as she has aged. She has received the finest medical evaluation and treatment. I cannot speak highly enough of South Loop Animal Hospital.
Dr. Sanchez saved my dog's life after she was misdiagnosed by two vets at other facilities. He walked me through very difficult decisions that resulted in three additional quality years with my Sam. He's great with animals and humans in great times and challenging times alike. We have two new dogs and would not consider anyone other than Dr. Sanchez caring for them!
We've taken our two dogs here for almost 10 years. They've helps us through the toughest times (our older dog was diagnosed with cancer), and we're kind, patient, knowledgeable and helpful all the way. We'd recommend South Loop Animal Hospital to anyone.
Loved the Doc I saw here (even though I forget his name).. both he and his vet tech/assistant were wonderful. Explained everything to me and was awesome with my cat. Had been to another vet in Chicago and felt rushed from a quick visit and a demeaning vet who had difficulty looking me in the eye. Will be staying with them as my pet's vet, and will for sure recommend them to anyone who asks.

Dr. Sanchez and the entire team at South Loop Animal hospital are truly top notch in not only the care of their patients, but in the care of their owners too:) Our dog Rooney visited them on a few different occasions in his first two years of life and regardless of the issues we dealt with we were always at ease knowing he was being cared for by the team at SLAH. When we decided to move to LA, one of the things we knew we were going to miss the most was SLAH!! We still compare our new care to theirs every chance we get. They asked us for pictures of our journey to the west coast with Rooney and we even have called a few times to check in or get info about his past medical history. Even though we are not in Chicago anymore, we feel we could call at any time for help from a far. They go above an beyond and I am really jealous of the dog owners in Chicago that still have the opportunity to have care at SLAH. From the helpful staff that submits claims for insurance and always help through scary situations with care, to the doctors that make you feel like part of the team that cares for your pet, you can do no better than South Loop Animal Hospital.
Great Experience!...I have two dogs.., we just moved to Chicago and I am glad I found this place for my babies. The customer service is excelent, the staff is very friendly. The doctors are great and they take the time to go over any health issues that your pet may have. I was very impressed when I received in my e-mail a very detailed report of my two dogs visit. They are very detailed oriented and they do care for their patients. Highly recommended.
After dealing with an animal hospital in my area that my husband and I couldn't trust, we ended up going to South Loop Animal Hospital on a recommendation from a friend. This place is amazing and we all (dog included) love coming here.
Dr Ojala and her staff are amazing. We were welcoming from the moment we made our first contact, through trying to keep my Bengals out of the cabinets and drawers with a smile on their faces. The amount of thought and care given to our boys in the office, and the level of follow up afterwards is reassuring. I would highly recommend South Loop Animal Hospital to anyone!
The staff and doctors at South Loop Animal Hospital are extremely professional, knowledgeable, and just nice people. I have never had a bad experience with them, whether it is on the phone or at the hospital. I am always impressed by the amount of attention and care I (and my pup) get from them; during all visits they make sure I understand ALL possible approaches to care and their costs before I make a decision, and I always get a follow up call a week after appointments to see how everything is going. I am very grateful to have them as teammates in taking care of my pup's health.
Since I moved to the South Loop from the Lakeview area, I'm so glad I found this place. I like this vet a lot more than the one I had on the north side. They are extremely friendly and caring with your pet, it is easy to place your trust in them. The first time I took my cat in it was a cold winter day. I only live 3-4 blocks away so it's a short walk. They gave me an old towel to put over the carrier on the walk home. So nice. The vets are great with your pet, my cat who is a finicky diva at home is on her best behavior there. The prices are very fair and reasonable and I have never felt like they were adding on procedures or charges just to get money (which unfortunately has been my experience with some other vets). All in all, if you live within distance that South Loop Animal Hospital works for you - you should stop searching and make them your new vet
The staff was EXTREMELY friendly. They were patient and took their time to get to know our family. Doctor was very detail-oriented. Highly recommend.
Awesome, friendly vets. Cute place as well. Highly recommended!
The doctors and staff at SLAH are amazing. I started with annual checkups for my 11 year-old cat, and progressed to teeth cleaning and extraction. Then this past spring, I knew something was wrong when he lost his energy and they referred me to a cardiologist since they detected a new murmur. Turns out he has a slow leak due to age, but it's infinitely better than the alternative. Thanks, Maria, for caring for both my kitty and me!
Awesome animal hospital! Super clean and staff is amazing with my nervous pup! Always able to get an appointment right away!
Professional, clean, friendly, and pet loving team and atmosphere. The best!
I recently moved to the area and was looking for a new vet for my goldendoodle Piper. After much research, I decided on South Loop Animal Hospital. It has been such a great experience working with them!!! The entire staff was super friendly and helpful. You can tell that they all really really care about animals. Everyone was also very down-to-earth making the experience actually enjoyable!!! To put the cherry on top, they sent me home with the pictured "report card" with a photo that they took of her that day!!!! Would definitely recommend to anyone and everyone!
They take good care of my pets. But they are expensive.
Love this place! They really care about my dog and always call to check on him the day after. Dr. Sanchez is just amazing. I am very hard on Vets because my dog is my only baby and they never let me down.
South Loop Animal Hospital is ok for animal check ups. When my dog was very sick it has been their practice to send us to an emergency facility. This of course will be more expensive for you. My dog was very sick and lethargic on 2 occasions and they wouldn't see him. The Veterinarian wouldn't even speak with us personally to determine anything. Conversation went through receptionist who is not to blame. Bottom line my dog needed help and South loop Animal Hospital wouldn't help him or me. Because they send us to other facilities during times we need them I have to question the ability of the Veterinarian. Sadly South loop Animal Hospital wasn't helpful when we really needed them. The following is advice for others when picking your vet. Pick a veterinarian who will be there for you when your animal is not well. Pick Veterinarian that will speak to you over the phone to determine if its an emergency or not. Pick a Veterinarian that would rather your animal see them than send you to another facility. This leads to building confidence in your Veterinarian ability as a doctor. When your veterinarian passes serious health problems to other facilities this brings into question their ability and knowledge as a Veterinary Physician.
I have been coming here for about a year now, since we got an English Bulldog puppy, There service here is amazing. They really care about your pet here. Last year my pup got aspiration pneumonia and had to be hospitalized. The vet called me periodically with updates on her condition. Later on when she had x-rays done (she's had quite a few of them done) the vet who was taking care of her always would explain and show the scans to us. We've had no complaints and will continue to go here for our pet's needs.
South Loop Animal Hospital is amazing! I first brought my dog Miles to South Loop when we moved to Chicago. They were great with him - caring about his health, and treating him like he was the only dog there! A few months later, Miles started to get sick. The entire group worked hard to figure out what was wrong. They truly were amazing people helping us understand the diagnosis, and talking about possible treatment. Unfortunately, Miles had cancer. The people at South Loop helped us manage his pain, and were there for us at every turn. We now take our other dog Ginger to South Loop. They do great with her too! I highly recommend the team at South Loop - great people that love animals!
Hands down the best vet I've ever been to. Dr. Sanchez has cared for my aging dog with empathy and compassion. He communicates well and always presents different options. The front office staff is incredible. They are friendly and connect well with the patrons. I love going to the vet because everyone is so warm and welcoming. I highly recommend South Loop Animal Hospital.
Can't say enough about this vet practice!! The Dr's and office staff really care about their clients and their pets!!
The doctor and staff was very friendly and nice. Took my cat in because he had a cough. Got some medicine. Its day 3 right now, seems to be feeling better. Cough has reduce significantly.
We've taken our Vizsla puppy, Scout, to South Loop since her first 8 week check up (she's almost a year old now). They have been excellent. The service is top notch, the staff is friendly, the prices are fair, and the doctors ALWAYS follow up to make sure that Scout is doing well after the visit. We are fortunate to have stumbled onto an excellent vet in Downtown. I would definitely recommend them. Mike
My dog Baby a 13 yr old pomeranian was very sick so i took her in as a first time client, we had difficulties in the past with vets so I was nervous about taking her in to a new place but figured it couldn't be worse than the last. Dr Sanchez took her in immediately under his care, he showed great concern for my pet as it was his own, he diagnosed her with kidney failure and in order to bring her back to a comfortable state of living, it was necessary to keep her there for at least 48 hrs.. I was hesitant but i decided to trust their professional opinion. Dr Sanchez personally called me to give me updates 2-3 times a day, it was a comfortable feeling knowing that I was always aware with her status, during her 48 hr timeframe, 4th of July inconveniently landed in the middle of the week and the office was closed for holiday, to avoid interruption in her treatment, Dr Sanchez went into the clinic twice that day to check up on her, give her medicine, walk her and spend time with her so that she wasn't alone. this was the most remarkable service provided by any doctor, I will forever take all of my other pets to this clinic. The staff is friendly, my pets are happily greeted upon their arrival and the rooms are very clean.
This animal hospital is the best I've gone to! Over a year ago, I moved to Chicago and found the South Loop Animal Hospital online. My dog has been there a few times now and he has a great experience every time. The staff are so nice and helpful. Both of the vets are super thorough and kind as well! Their facility is top notch and your pet's health is truly their priority. I would definitely recommend them to anyone who was looking to give their pet the best care!
Professional, clean, friendly, and pet loving team and atmosphere. The best!
Excellent care. Difficult to see from the street.
My Staffordshire Terrier pulls towards the doors of South Loop Animal Hospital whether we have an appointment or not (we live in the neighborhood and often walk by)! Our scheduled visits are stress-free due to an attentive and friendly staff, while Dr. Sanchez is both personable and an outstanding veterinarian. The proof is in the pudding: Snoopy has been in tip-top shape for the four years we've been going to SLAH - what more needs to be said? Dean Anderson
Friendly staff. Knowledgeable doctors who are enthusiastic about their work. This is a great place to take your animal. When dog flu was running through the city they expanded their hours to meet the needs of their patients. I’ve taken multiple animals here for regular checkups and for emergencies, and I wouldn’t consider another vet as long as they’re here.
Excellent service. I initially chose them because a friend worked there but I was happy I went there. From scheduling an appointment to meeting the staff and doctors, everything was a pleasant experience. Their facility is clean and new. They have parking available for customers which is sometimes hard to find. And they genuinely loved our Hobbes! I will definitely recommend this place to everyone!
My dog was bitten by a potentially rabid alley cat and Dr ojala took immediate care of her within an hour.
They were kind, caring, and willing to go the extra mile for patients and their families. Gave us wonderful care for our 19 year old cat. Thank you
South Loop Animal Hospital is a place where they really do care about your animals. From the time you come through the doors the friendliness is in the air. Dr. Ojala cares for my dog Valentino. He likes her and everyone at South Loop. They consistently keep you up to date on this scary Canine Influenza. Thankful we had scheduled a shot for Val. The serum had temporarily run out and we were safe! Recommend South Loop Animal Hospital to any animal owner. All Drs are extremely qualified to take on any emergency and on going wellness care. Thank you all for making everyday with Valentino, a good one knowing he is healthy. Sharon & Valentino
Everyone is so helpful and knowledgeable. Our cats are healthy and happy thanks to South Loop Animal Hospital!
Incredibly caring, compassionate staff. True animal lovers. AMAZING vets. Extremely trustworthy, knowledgeable. Would not trust my dog with anyone except Dr Sanchez.
We took our fur baby here because we live in the neighborhood. We also took her to a nearby boarder for conveniences as well. Our dog had an emergency where she was injured under the care of the boarder and this is apparently their choice facility, the south loop hospital. Because of the severity of the injury, we came home early from holiday and picked her up from the South Loop Hospital not wanting her to return to the boarder. We spoke with the south loop hospital and told them we would not be responsible for the $214 inp charges. they agreed and looked to recoup the cost from the boarder. when we called to schedule our next appt 4 months later, with them for our pup to get spayed, they said, they were severing our relationship and sent us an invoice again for 214 when the boarder whom they referred to ownership, by first name, wouldn't return their calls and were unable to recoup the costs. they said "maybe that's why they aren't bringing dogs here anymore". so instead of our dog getting spayed and having an agreement that this was the boarders cost, we lost a good vet and they sent us an invoice. convenient. friendly. yet very money hungry. read the reviews. similar high costs and money hungry issues threaded through the reviews. go here because it is convenient and friendly and does the job not because they put clients and pets first.
great place and take my dog here when needed
My dogs have been seeing Dr. Manrique since they were less than 4 months old. I must tell you they were quite sick when I got them. After two different vets and lots of time and money... my little ones were no better. One visit to Dr. Manrique and they were on the mend within days. They've been healthy ever since. I have found South Loop Animal Hospital to be amazingly compassionate. It's clear that they truly love animals. The facility is very clean and well maintained. The staff is friendly and Dr. Manrique is the absolute best! Most importantly South Loop Animal Hospital is trustworthy, which makes them in my opinion... invaluable.
I recently moved to the area and was looking for a new vet for my goldendoodle Piper. After much research, I decided on South Loop Animal Hospital. Best vets in Chicago
The doctors and staff are wonderful and caring. I recently had to put my cat to sleep and they understood the emotions I was going through and gave me support during this extremely hard time.
Dr Sanchez is very helpful. Edit: After receiving care here for a greyhound and CH cat for two years I can say that I highly recommend taking your pet here for care.
This was my third visit for my cats’ care. I would have given this place two stars instead of three if it wasn’t for the convenient location, Dr Sanchez and his assistant, Jack. They were very professional, cordial and respectful. Now here comes the poor review, why I wanted to rate SLAH two stars: A staff member named, Kate, is extremely unpleasant on the phone as well as in person. She makes no effort to communicate effectively. Her tone towards me is harsh and aggressive. Last evening, I called SLAH in attempt to schedule a drop-in for the next day for my cats’ bloodwork. Kate answered. I explained that I was told by Dr Sanchez to call ahead before stopping in for the cats’ bloodwork. I also further explained that it wasn’t going to be an exam but merely bloodwork since the last time I took my cats there for their rabies shots, the attempt to draw blood was unsuccessful. This was because they were too stressed out; thus Dr Sanchez did not want to press on. But she put me on hold for a good 5+ minutes. Then returned to the phone to say that she had to do some looking into because she could not understand what I wanted. She was very condescending. Non apologetic. Again, no efforts to be kind or patient to understand what I wanted. In her aggressive tone, she asked if I knew I had to give my cats Gabapentin prior the visits. I was thoroughly put off by that at this point. And I yelled back out of frustration. Now a year ago, which was my previous visit, I was told to give them Gabapentin couple hours before the next visit to ease their anxiety. But that was a whole year gap before my recent visit. I didn’t even remember having the Gabapentin, let alone having the ability to draw this reminder from my memory bank. IMO, It would be helpful on the facility’s part to remind the customer prior to each scheduled visit. Perhaps look up the records, then build that reminder into their systematic text reminder. And not expect the customer to keep up, especially when visits could be so sporadic. Proactive vs Reactive. So today, I went in for my cats’ bloodwork. And again, I was confronted by her aggressive tone, insisted on the exact time I gave them Gabapentin. She asked, “Did you give them Gabapentin? What time did you give them Gabapentin?” But it sounded more like “DID YOU GIVE THEM GABAPENTIN! WHAT TIME...!!!” I said repeatedly two to three hours ago. I said I didn’t remember the exact time. Seriously, I was working from home, on calls, focusing on different things. I did not chart my Gabapentin admin activity. And if Kate would be more patient and kind by explaining why she needed to know the exact time, perhaps I’d be more inclined to approximate a time. Once again, I was put off by her and didn’t want to deal with her. I honestly don’t think any paying customers deserve to be treated that way. Just from the last two visits, I’d already spent over $900. I really don’t need to be frustrated by someone who has a chip on their shoulder. Unfortunately, I’d still need to return for my cat’s treatment. I really don’t want further unpleasant experience. I hope they will talk to Kate. Ask her to be more cordial and professional. Or I will have to take my business elsewhere even if that means a less convenient location.
Friendly and clean veterinarians office
Amazing, caring and expert vets and staff. I have the utmost trust in this team and won't take my boy anywhere else as long as I live in Chicago.
Take a genuine interest in the health and welfare of your pet. Provides educated input based on information provided about pre-existing conditions, lifestyle and making pet as comfortable and healthy as possible. They were also willing to go outside their typical wheelhouse for me when I had an emergency with an "exotic" pet.
Doctors and staff are fantastic. They are always willing to help as much as possible
Not only are they really great vets, everyone there really cares a lot and treats my dog like one of their own.
South Loop Animal Hospital has been fantastic! The atmosphere is friendly and energized. Every single person shows a caring and loving attitude toward our family. All of our girls ( 2 cats and 1 dog) have had the best of care, whether it is a routine check up or a problem. The offices are clean, modern and welcoming. The staff is the best! I highly recommend them!
The staff Dr.'s and Nurse's there Know what iris that they are talking about in our, "laments" terms". Great Peoeple, Place and Enviornment!!
First time I had been there. It was not a good outcome (depending on how you look at it) for my Buster. I cannot say enough good things about this place and the staff. Buster had out of control diabetes and Dr. Sanchez was honest and compassionate beyond belief. I told him 'human' doctors should have his bedside manner. My experience was so wonderful from walking in greeted by a sparkling clean and wonderfully decorated office to Dennis the receptionist and then Dr. Sanchez's assistant (sorry I can't remember your name). I was in the middle of telling her about Buster's back legs being too shakey to lift while urinating - all the while - he lifted his back leg and peed all down the front of her leg and shoe and all over the floor without us noticing him. She never got pis..errr upset) True to form Buster was a little son-of-a-gun till the end. lolol. Dr. Sanchez allowed me to hold my Boy through the whole process. I could never express what a comfort and encouragment Dr. was to me. Even in my grief later on in the day getting my hair cut - I gave his name out to other dog lovers who were looking for a new good vet. And as I live in Bridgeport and we are known for not wanting to have to travel more than 15 minutes to get anywhere - the office is close and parking is good. I will be bringing my other mini-schnauzer Gussie (Buster's bro-yeah I know double sad) to Dr. Sanchez and the South Loop Animal Hospital for all his medical care. May God protect and prosper you. Donna Botica-Battaglia
We have two toy poodles (trying saying that 10 times) who happen to be on the opposite age and personality spectrum. The sweet young one can only eat special food otherwise she has all kinds of gastric and ear problems. The old one has an enlarged heart, hence has become rather grouchy. SLHA is very good at helping us understand what our little pets need without having to take out a second mortgage. Extremely wonderful and caring people work at this vet.
We've been going to this hospital for the past year and we've been nothing but satisfied. Our dog recently contracted a really hard-to-kill infection in his ear, so that has been a bit frustrating, but Dr. Ojala and her staff have been …
The staff at South Loop Animal hospital are friendly and caring. The hospital is very clean and the rooms are spacious for big dogs.
We love Dr. Sanchez and his team, we drive from the suburbs to see him! The office staff and techs are so friendly to me and caring to my dog. We have been patients of Dr. Sanchez' for almost 8 years and he has helped us through some very challenging times. He takes his time with us and thoroughly explains all options in a patient friendly manner. He always tries to give us the most cost effective option and the prices are very fair for the excellent care we receive. My dog had to have a tumor removed this winter and he did an amazing job with the surgery, everyone kept telling me it was going to come back but it has been 8 months and there is no sign of it and I believe this is due to his skill as a surgeon. Most importantly I know that he cares for my dog, he says Hi to her first and treats her as if she is his only patient event though he is very busy. I cannot say enough good things about South Loop Animal Hospital, especially Dr. Sanchez.
Caring and compassionate doctors and staff have been keeping my cats healthy for years. They really love animals and understand their caretakers as well.
Great place good people
Staff unfriendly and crass. Feel I was charged for needless tests, over $1400, for with no diagnoses found for my cat. Changed vets after 3rd visit. One visit at new vet for $300 showed food allergies. I aporeciate clinic's response and understand. This does not make up for rude staff. Knew I had made right decision to change vets when I called to have my cat's records sent to a new vet. Girl on phone asked 'last name?' which I gave her, then asked 'Name?' and I gave my real first name...her response was 'Really? Your cat's name is Helen?' with a very mocking tone. She did not say she wanted the cat's first name, then made me feel like an idiot. Also twice I had paid up front for lab tests at visits but had to bring back fecal samples for them to be done. Both times, office workers insisted I had to pay for these tests, which were paid for in advance. Each time they went to back of office, returned later to say 'okay, you don't have to pay today.' Really? Thank you. Could you not check the computer to see this before hassling me and making me stand around and wait? Rude in person, rude on the phone, gave three chances because I did like the vet, but just not worth it.
I knew from when I initially walked in the door this was to be a welcoming place for my cat. Everyone has been helpful and courteous. The doctor was very knowledgeable and assuring, helping me feel confident that I chose a place that will give my fur baby the best care.
Love this place!!!! Staff and doctors are super friendly and genuinely care for your furry family members.
Great vets...
Dr. Ojala was able to fit Tuck in last minute when he was sick. She was very understanding and made me feel at ease. I was very happy with my experience there, everyone in the office was very kind and informative. Happy to say Tuck is feeling a lot better! Thank you so much Dr. Ojala and the rest of the staff!
I brought my new puppy in for a well visit and the staff at south loop animal hospital was great! They answered all of my questions patiently, they gave me a ton of information, and Dr. Robert Plourde is wonderful! I also love that there is a patient portal for your animal. We are very happy with south loop animal hospital as our vet.
South Loop Animal Hospital has been a terrific find for our elderly (15) cat suffering from chronic kidney function decline. The thoughtfulness and thoroughness of care that Dr. Dan Sanchez has provided has been top-notch. The facilities are squeaky clean, are designed with a homey feeling, and the diagnostic services are squarely 21st century. South Loop Animal Hospital is a breath of fresh air In a world where corporate franchised veterinary clinics are becoming more common in cities. They're independently owned and they care very much about each patient. If you're looking for the best in care for your beloved pet in downtown Chicago you couldn't do better than South Loop Animal Hospital. ------------------------ Update: May 12, 2016 Now nearly two years after my initial review our opinion of South Loop Animal Hospital and Dr. Dan Sanchez has only grown stronger. Sadly, renal failure eventually overtook our beloved 17 year-old cat this month. But Dr. Sanchez's devotion to thoughtful and flexible care was a major factor in allowing our cat to live a longer and more natural and comfortable end of life than we really expected. When the time came for us to let go Dr. Sanchez and his staff provided the most gentle and compassionate final moments for our cat that we could have hoped for. If the day ever comes when we bring a new 4-legged friend into our home in Chicago there is absolutely no doubt that s/he will become a new patient at South Loop Animal Hospital. Thank you so much Dr. Sanchez, Lindsey, Allison, and the whole staff at SLAH.
I am very happy with this place and so is my dog:) Awesome location close to my home plus the staff takes time to thoroughly explain everyting and to answer all my questions. Since my first time at South Loop Animal Hospital we fall in love …
This place is the best! I've moved around a decent amount, and this place has the best customer service by far. Dr. Plourde is always incredibly kind to both me and my dog (who is normally terrified of the vet) all the while providing excellent care. Quality care and quality service- Can't beat it!
South Loop has the most caring and responsive staff I have have ever seen at a vet. When my cat got very sick last year, they worked tirelessly for three weeks to nurse her back to health. This included multiple phone calls throughout the day, late nights and getting me scheduled to see specialists immediately. Throughout the whole process, they were understanding, patient and supportive in what was a very difficult time. They truly were amazing. I could not think of taking my pets anywhere else; wonderful does not begin to describe this vet.
Every since my furry baby found us four and half year's ago we go SLAH to keep her updated on all her pet care needs. We currently travel over 50 miles because they are the BEST. They have EXCELLENT service from beginning to end. (They treat my baby like me A QUEEN).Yes they are pricey but Momma said you get what you pay for Thank you .
After my dog was diagnosed with terminal cancer, Dr. Ojala and the staff were extremely kind and helpful in dealing with the news and how to manage a dog with cancer. My family and I are extremely thankful for the staff, Dr. Simpson and Dr. Ojala.
Prices are higher but I guess the location is partly the reason. Service has been consistent and most workers are friendly. I would like to see the monthly shots be administered rather than having them take my pup to the back.
We have been going to South Loop Animal Hospital since we first got our puppy a little over a year ago. We love it! The prices are reasonable, the staff are knowledgeable and friendly, and it has always been easy to get appointment times. Our dog actually enjoys going to this vet and so do we.
I chose to come to this Animal Hospital with my cat Melvin based on their great reviews on google, and we certainly were not disappointed. The staff were all friendly and welcoming and clearly know how to handle animals, even when they're stressed out by a new/weird environment. Dr. Ojala was a pleasure to meet. She performed surgery on Melvin with no issues, and the followup by the staff at South Loop Animal Hospital was very thoughtful. Thank you again so much for taking such great care of my old man cat, Melvin!!
Love these guys

Great staff! Very detailed visit. Dr. Sanchez took the time to explain everything to me, he went above and far beyond the call of duty. I would recommend this place to anyone. Only problem is that they don't accept American Express.
Awesome group of people working here! Always accommodating and have always made time for me to run my dog in for a check-up short notice. Wouldn't go anywhere else!
I have brought my dog to South Loop Animal Hospital since he was a puppy. He has been receiving great care from Dr. Sanchez and his staff.
Wonderful vets who really care.
Great experience. Took my pit bull there to have a cyst removed and had no problems with outcome.
Trustworthy veterinarians, friendly staff, great hours, and parking. Literally, everything you could want.
I have recently made the switch to South Loop for my pets. I have 3 dogs and 1 cat and so far they have met all of my dogs. My cat is the last to go in only because he is very difficult to get out of the house. I have to say I am very impressed with South Loop from the time I walked in the door until I left. EVERYONE here is awesome. I get better treatment and care here than I do at my own doctor's office LOL. They are truly caring, knowledgeable, have wonderful personalities. They helped my puppy get better when he was sick, helped my oldest dog be more comfortable, and helping me with information on training and all my questions. The follow up after my visits were very shocking to me as I have never had a vet call me to see how everyone was doing, what a great and professional staff. I would highly recommend South Loop to anyone who has a pet of any kind. Best decision I have made in a long time. Thank you all!!!
South Loop Animal Hospital goes above and beyond when it comes to professionalism, thoughtfulness, and overall caring of both the pets and owners it services. The vets and staff onsite remember you and make themselves available around the clock for questions and any additional follow up given your situation. If you are new to the South Loop or are looking for a new vet in the area, THIS IS THE PLACE TO GO! Nothing but good things to say about this place - keep on doing what you're doing South Loop Animal Hospital!
I have been taking my dogs here for 5 years and I love the doctors.
I have had a very positive experience at South Loop Animal Hospital. All of the staff and doctors are friendly and helpful. Dr. Sanchez is excellent. They are very accomodating and eager to help in any way possible. The facility is new and clean. I would recommend this clinic to anyone.
Rescue kitty had first visit at South Loop Animal Hospital. Vet said he was healthy despite some tiny skin lesions. Came back 2 weeks later ($375 total) after lesions were larger and another Vet determined cat has “something”... Prescrip was antibiotic for ears and will monitor on a week. Did blood test. Also had a flea treatment preventative. Total bill was $375. I’m ok with investing in my adorable rescue cat but 2 things: 1) was not told expenses up front (was a $150 or so for blood test) 2) was charged $17 for a plastic collar I have never been charged separately for a collar at any cat I have owned. I am disappointed first visit didn’t pick up on my kitties skin and ear condition. And also think the line-item charge of $17 for her plastic collar was ridiculous.
Dr. Dan Sanchez is great!
Best Veterinarians in the city! They treat you like family.
They're always very helpful and nice. They're closed on Sundays.
Compassionate, professional, and knowledgable veterinarians and staff. We have been taking our two dogs to the South Loop Animal Hospital for over 4 years. Taking the best care I could imagine of our dogs, both in their routine care and the care of one of our dogs through a serious illness. We love our regular veterinarian, Dr. Sanchez, but have also seen other veterinarians there. The experience has always been overwhelmingly positive, even if the reason for being there is not. A place that really understands your pets are family members and treats them like one of their own.
I've been coming to South Loop Animal Hospital since it opened. I even followed Dr. Sanchez from his previous clinic to here, and in the process recruited my (now) husband to bring his two dogs here as well. So now, we have three dogs who continue to get wonderful, compassionate and thorough care from South Loop Animal Hospital! Everyone is courteous and prompt...any time I have a question or concern, I get a personalized response within the day. I'd recommend that anyone with a furry friend to come here... without a doubt! I just wish that *my* doctors treated my the same as they do here to our dogs! You won't be disappointed, I promise!
THE BEST
I took my cats and dog there when I lived in the South Loop. In those three years I had consistently wonderful experiences with all of the doctors and staff there. If I lived a little closer or had a car, I'd still be taking the cats to see Dr. Manrique. Highly recommended.
Prices are higher but I guess the location is partly the reason. Service has been consistent and most workers are friendly. I would like to see the monthly shots be administered rather than having them take my pup to the back.
We can't say enough great things about the medical staff and everyone at South Loop Animal Hospital! They have taken care of our little Bernard for the last 5 years and we have never been disappointed. If you want an amazing vet, great service and support you have found the best place! My husband and I moved to the northside of the city and we still drive down to the Sloop for Bernard!
Absolutely love this place and so do my dogs!
Love this vet---and so does my dog! He is always excited to see his friends there. They have saved my dog's life--TWICE! Very reasonable prices, great staff, and a great looking clinic. Definitely recommend to anyone looking for a vet in Chicago!
Dr. Sanchez is amazing! He took such great care of my two dogs. Thank you!
They do a great job with our dog!
The South Loop was so in need of a good animal hospital, one that didn't operate as a factory moving through the pet patients. Along came South Loop Hospital and our needs were definitely answered. The whole office knows my dog well, treats him like family, reviews his file each time so back issues don't have to be readdressed and although Bogart does not enjoy his vet visits, they make him feel comfortable and welcomed. Love all three doctors and the staff and they have not missed a beat in treating a dog with lots of challenges. Top notch establishment!
This is our regular vet for our two beagles. Dr. Manrique has always been great. She answers all questions and follows up by phone. Appointments are easy to make and they have seen us within a few hours without charging us the emergency fee. The facilities are clean and new. The staff has always been kind and attentive. There is ample free parking either immediately in front the hospital or in a lot directly across the street. The services are a bit expensive, but to be honest we haven't compared rates too heavily with other similar animal hospitals in the area. We feel that's just the cost of top-quality care. We love our beagles so the fact that we exclusively go to South Loop Animal Hospital is our greatest way to show our approval.
