I've been a client at Family Pet for over 20 years. And throughout that time, I have received EXCELLENT care from all of the people there. Rae Anne van Pelt is a kind, caring doc who is truly dedicated to giving the best possible care to your fur babies. When I have a question and leave a message, she ALWAYS calls back to answer it. She teaches you how to better care for the "kids". You can tell how much Rae Anne loves her job. She has established a group of highly skilled veterinarians and you can trust them to care about your pets. They have fun while treating your pets. That's what makes Family Pet special. I'll be a client for the next 20 years!

While visiting Chicago our 14 1/2 year old Yorkie (Mimi) became increasingly ill and stopped eating and drinking. We knew it had become time to let her pain end. We were referred to Family Pet Animal hospital by my cousin who knew of them from the Little Sisters of the Poor. We called them this morning and even through we were not their existing patient they immediately opened an appointment for us and then helped us through the euthanasia process with love and compassion. They could not have been kinder or more caring of both our treasured Mimi but also to our family. Thank you to the wonderful staff at Family Vet and bless you for being so loving to our sweet girl

Love Dr van pelt. However three big problems: 1) the practice isn't a well run practice. After being a patient for years, had to bring my dog in for a simple eye emergency due to shampoo. It's at tops 5 mins visit and an eye drop. They wanted me to wait for 4 hrs before the Dr can possibly see my dog. The vet spent a good 10 mins explaining this to me but refused to just take a look at the dog. 2) their prices are over the roof and sometimes they do unnecessary procedures. I had recommended this practice to a friend of mine for their dogs. Then I get a call from my friend very unhappy about it as they did and suggested lots of unnecessary procedures on a 13 years old dog such as a removal of a small mole (benign) for beauty purposes. My friend was not happy. 3) the practice releases your Pet's information despite the fact that you have asked them not to. So patient confidentiality is compromised.

Family Pet is great! We have a six month old puppy Herbie, and they met him as soon as we brought him home and have been taking great care of him ever since. From our start up vaccines to getting a microchip and fix, to helping with his separation anxiety - they have been a great resource as we learn about our puppy (a goldendoodle). We get prompt call backs and very thorough advice. Dr. Oren has been our primary Vet and Dr. Lewin did his neuter surgery. All of the techs love our dog and we feel very comfortable that he is in great hands under their watchful eye. We also live in the neighborhood, and every time we walk by, Herbie runs right to their door and begs to go in. I have never known a dog to love the vet as much as ours loves going to Family Pet.

Family Pet has been taking care of my kids in fur suits since they opened up in April of 1990. My first 2 orange marmalades received outstanding care from cradle to grave. They saved the life of my 3rd kitty and gave the 4th to me from their adoption program. What a blessing Marla, Rae, all the docs and associates have been to our family.

We have been clients of Family Pet since Dr. Van Pelt was just starting out on her own. We love her, and we love her staff. In particular, we love Vet Tech Tony. We have a lovable but weird dog who is not a fan of exams, and Tony can get him to relax and get through his exam every single time. He is magic. We recently brought Rally, our cat, in for a regular vet tech appointment. While working with him, Tony noticed a lump on his side. Turned out to be cancerous hemangiopericytoma. A week later, he had successful surgery, and just finished his next to last round of chemo. Because it was caught so early by Tony, Rally's prognosis is actually really great. These types of cancers are locally aggressive, and without keeping our regular appointments and Tony's keen eye, we would have lost our weird little friend. From all of us, thank you Family Pet, Dr. Van Pelt, and especially Tony. You are magic.

We have a 1 1/2 year old bull dog mix named Francois. We love taking him to Family Pet animal hospital. He has been going here since he was 8 weeks old and I can't imagine taking him anywhere else. The care here is like no other. Everyone that works here has an absolute love for animals and it shows in their work. We have had a couple of emergencies and they have accommodated us every time. I was even booked for an emergency appointment once (they do cost more) but a regular appointment spot opened up and they called me back to put me in that slot and save me some time and money. Francois has seen many of the doctors at this facility and they have always been very pleasant and informative. You definitely feel like part of the family when you visit. They also have a separate waiting area for cats. So you don't have to wait with kitty along with all of the pups. Another benefit with this location is a small parking lot behind the building and a few days with late night and weekend hours.

I can't even begin to thank the most wonderful Dr. Jane Lohmar and everyone who stayed late when they should have gone home. THANK YOU -- Sandy, Michelle, Bridgid and Jim! The care and compassion that I witnessed from everyone involved yesterday was absolutely amazing. What a top notch group of employees who really do care about their patients.

I have been coming to Family Pet for many years now. All of my Labradors have been taken care of by Dr. Jane Lohmar. She is the best and after all of these years, I consider her a friend. We have worked through many illnesses with my older boy and she has treated all of my pups like they were her own. The staff is always friendly and courteous. The techs are wonderful and very knowledgeable. A special appreciation to Tony. He has taken care of my boy during his surgeries and my girlie, who is very anxious and nervous, during her surgeries. He has a special way with the animals and I am very grateful for his care when my pets have to have any procedures done at Family Pet. Tony is terrific.

My labrador and i L O V E Family Pet Animal Hospital. Exceptional kindness, care and expertise rescued my labrador from a state of disphoria caused by pain medication he had been prescribed elsewhere---Dr. Annika Hoffman ascertained that the immediate cause of his great distress was not the injury or pain associated with it, but rather the opiates. Twelve hours opiate free and he was doing so much better both my dog and i cried from relief. Cannot adequately express our gratitude for Dr Hoffman's care which also included a follow up call on a Saturday night. THANK YOU!!!!!

If you are true animal lover, this is the place to trust with your pet. Our two beloved dogs were under the care of Dr. Oran. We learned the true test of a vet is when a pet's health starts to fail. For both of our dogs, Dr. Oran went above and beyond every step of the way. From working so hard to get to the bottom of their complex health issues, to not accepting pain and discomfort was acceptable for them to supporting us as human parents through the process. He treated our dogs with so much love and respect throughout their journey. Since pets can't speak it's so scary to trust their health and wellbeing with a stranger. If any of you can attest to this feeling, know you can trust Dr. Oran. We can never say thank you enough.

Family Pet Is the best veterinary practice in Chicago. Conveniently located directly across the street from our house doesn't hurt either. Our Goldendoodle Herbie loves stopping in to see his girlfriends & hop on the scale for a weigh in. Dr. Oran never rushers thru an appointment w/ us & always takes time to answer my million questions & calls back when he says he will. I can never imagine taking Herbie anywhere else. This is the only place we will ever go.

Reanne Van Pelt is probably the best vet in Chicago. She proactively managed the care of our old cat who had kidney disease for 9 years before she died at age 18. Our new cat was found to have a heart defect that put his life expectancy at less than five years. He is now approaching his 7th birthday and still runs and plays like a kitten. The staff is friendly, professional and compassionate about treatment of all of the animals in the facility. We also have a few of the other vets take care of our cats on an urgent basis, and we are impressed with all of them. Highly recommend.

We were referred to Family Pet by our friends who have taken their beloved dog to Dr. Van Pelt for years. We hadn't had a pet in our family for many years, and never while living in Chicago. We have been amazed at the level of care our puppy has received at Family Pet. Everyone is extremely helpful, knowledgable, and friendly. The appointments are prompt, the office is clean and somehow doesn't smell of animal anything. Most importantly, we feel that the care our puppy receives from Dr. Ken Goldrick is exceptional. We have seen Dr. Van Pelt and Dr. Hoffman once each and their care has also been excellent. If we have an issue or concern it is addressed and dealt with immediately and conservatively. We always receive a call from a client care coordinator following a visit to check and see if our puppy is ok. Lastly, the office is run efficiently and professionally with special attention to customer service by Ms. Linda Lee. I always walk out of Family Pet thinking what a shame most human medical and dental offices aren't run this professionally. I recommend Family Pet without reservation, I would never go anywhere else.

My dogs and I have been clients of Family Pet for over 23 years! Not only are ALL of the Doctors warm, compassionate, and easy to communicate with, they are all on top of their “game”! They always take the extra step and time to assure me that they have investigated, consulted, and provide the best, state of the art care for my little guys. Just as with human health care, I want the very best for my dogs. And, although, sometimes there is a “price to pay” for that, I always know that my guys are getting the very best care, and that they are worth it! That is why I chose and have stayed with Family Pet for all of these years. In addition to the great Veterinarians of Family Pet, the entire staff is wonderful, skilled, and friendly. The all know how to handle a situation, whether it be routine, or urgent. No joke, they are truly like our second “Family”. I highly recommend Family Pet Animal Hospital!

I'm going to have to agree with several reviews that I read before posting my own. If you are wanting the best vet, advice and care for your animal THIS IS IT! We just lost one of our pack and my fiance was not taking it very well. Let's just say a piece of her died too and she was blaming herself. If you want a fair example of WHY this place is the best, Dr. Ken Goldrick was able to leave her a voice message which off-loaded so much guilt my fiance had, it literally is helping her move past this tough time. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!! Also a special thanks to Jim, who was an immediate escalation point and most likely manages the front-office operations. Hey conveyed my message accurately as I just walked in un-announced / scheduled which I try to never do! -Thanks for tending to our emergency guys!! -Jason&Natalia -P.S. I have been a client for 8 to 9 years. My cats have always received excellent care and attention. However, the new telephone response system that I tried to access today is extremely confusing and frustrating. I left my questions, phone number and email address and, hopefully, will receive a response soon. Would have loved to have spoken to a real person!!
