Dr. Stone is an awesome veterinarian. He is also very active in and supportive of responsible pet ownership and care programs. He is a great neighbor and friend and is active in many worthy pursuits in our community. He runs a very professional clinic.

I started taking my pets to Doctor Stone almost 5 years ago, when I first moved to Idaho Falls. My maltese had to have some more teeth removed and I had previously used another local vet . Dr. Stone removed 3 times the amount of teeth and his fees including the pain meds were FAR LESS. However, cost wasn’t the only reason I have returned. He treats you like a person, not just a paycheck. His exams are thorough and he doesn’t make you feel bad when you ask a “dumb” question. I have heard people put this place down usually stating the employees are rude. I have never found this to be the case. They are very direct and blunt but that is very different from rude. The building is clean, the front desk is organized and quick, and the prices are beyond fair. I have even had them waive the costs of some meds for us before. Lastly, for all those who claim He is prejudice about dogs and hates some breeds… We all have dogs we favor. I am a proud pit bull mommy and he has never treated my “bullies” any different than any other pet we have brought in. I recommend to anyone and everyone.

I like em, I call with multiple questions and Joann helps all the time. Dr Stone is a good doc. Nice to the dogs too. Good advise for me when I was a first time owner. There are good vets in this town. Maybe think I should have been a vet.

Emma Paulsen

Great vet. I have taken my dogs here, as well as a cat once, and will continue to do so.

We LOVE Dr. Stone!! My family has gone to him for years. 2 dogs, both living to 16 and 17, and 3 dogs right now. When we had to put my first dog down, he was very sweet and respectful of the situation. He stayed after hours so we could be alone and grieve. He is a great and attentive vet who answers any questions you have. He helped my husband and I a lot with some basic training as well. A woman recently sold us a puppy who was very under age, and he helped us know how to take care of him, and how to get him to eat. He even gave us literature on how tonproperly crate train! Dr. Stone and his receptionist are also very helpful when it comes to questions over the phone about the health of my dog. I currently live in a different state and drive to Idaho to have him care for my dog in non-emergency situations. I highly recommend him!

I have taken both my cats and my puppy to northgate since we got them. Dr. Stone is very helpful with tips and advice for my new puppy and my cats. Great service and great prices.

Updated review. Under new management. The vet, Abby, was nice and handled my can genitally. Making the shots and chip insertion painless. The lady at the counter was nice. The surprise was when I went to register the chip with HomeAgain. We paid $40 to get the chip put in. But its $20 per year to keep it registered with HomeAgain. I had no idea. I think someone should have told me the costs upfront. It turns out, the Animal Shelter charges $20 and its a life time registration. I should have done my research a head of time. But old Doc Stone was always forth right and affordable.

This is one of the worst vets I've ever experienced in my life. I've raised puppies since I was a child and am a dog trainer, and have been a handler for animals in stage shows, yet according to Dr. Stone, I am a poor pet owner. His reasoning behind my being such a terrible owner, was because my 6 month old puppy was 'not happy to see him'. Upon being brought in, the puppy, who is half border collie [which is a breed known for nervousness in the first place] was anxious and had his tail between his legs when the vet came in. Dr. Stone said that my dog "should be happy" to see him, "his tail should be wagging and he should be happy" to be here, being poked and prodded by a strange man. He accused me of under-socializing my dog, and chastised me for the entire visit. What's more, when I came in, I was 5 minutes late, but ended up waiting another 45 minutes for the doctor to arrive. Then after arrival, it took him another 10 minutes to even see me. The receptionist was exceptionally rude and was incredibly judgmental, snapping at me and talking to me like I was stupid the entire time. Once I'd dropped off my puppy to be fixed, she told me that he would be ready to be picked up between 4-6, and that she would call us when he was ready. She called us at 5:45, and said "Where are you? Why aren't you here? We're about to close." What she said was he'd be ready from 4-6, but what she MEANT apparently was that I should pick him up from 4-6 because they were closing. I nearly had to leave him there overnight because she mispoke. This was all back in October; I've moved since then, but I needed to call the clinic today and have them fax over the paperwork from my dog's last visit to my current vet, since he was due. Today I went to a FAR BETTER vet in another state, but when calling, the receptionist was again, very rude. She was clearly irritated with my asking her to do something, then she sounded to be judging me very hard for living in my state. When I made it to the clinic, the receptionist at this clinic said that the one at Northgate had been horrible rude to her, as well. The paperwork was written in such a horrible scrawl she couldn't really read it, so she called them to check on what shots he was given and what procedure was done. She snapped at the receptionist calling, talking to her like she's stupid, and kept telling her to 'look at the papers'. I looked at them myself. They were poorly faxed and were overly dark, in addition to such messy handwriting that I couldn't read it at all. This place is the worst. The doctor is an absolute snotty, pretentious twat, and the receptionist thinks she knows better than anyone. Dr. Stone is hardly professional, and neither is his receptionist. If you are short on money and have nowhere else to go, try another part of the state before trying here. They're cheap but that's because they don't care about their clients, or the animals they serve.

Dr.stone saved my little baby daisys life I will be forever thankful to him.

Dr. Stone has taken care of our animals for the past 13 years. I moved away 5 years ago, but we still bring them back on occasion for his care, since we trust his extensive knowledge and expertise. He has a strong commitment to animals, as shown by his work with the local shelter and his recent Veterinarian of the Year award (2012). Also, his rates are very reasonable, particularly compared to the area where I currently live.

Blaine Beaderstadt

I have been to several different Veterinarians in Idaho falls over the years and Doctor Stone is by far the best! Also the most reasonably priced.

Denise Rice

Can't say enough good about Dr Stone and Joann!!!! We also have 3 generations going to him, and we have brought a total of 8 dogs to Dr. Stone. We will continue to do so. Other reviews call him blunt, I call it love for animals because he will tell you exactly what they need to not just survive but thrive. We love, love Northgate Vetrinary clinic. And Joann is awesome to work with. Our dogs also love to go because Dr Stone treats them like one of his own and gives them treats. Can't recommend them enough!

Russ Bybee

Would never take another animal here ever again they have no vet in on Wednesday. Think they would be closed? Nope. Lady at the front desk sat on the phone clearly talking about a personal matter. While i stood there with my dying dog in my arms. Got off the phone said oh sorry we don't have vet in today. Not but 2 seconds later my dog died in my arms

We recently moved to the area and ended up going to Dr. Stone after doing some research. It was a decision that we have been extremely happy with. His receptionist, Joanne, also manages the office and is great to work with. Had to put our cat down yesterday, first time for me, and they were very compassionate, stayed after hours to allow some grieving time. Beautiful people and we asked that he not retire until our dog has passed, that is how much we love them! I've never written a review but this one was important to me in hopes that it might help someone if they are in search of a new vet.

Tricia Swendsen

Dr. Stone and JoAnn are always kind and wonderful to both my pets and my family. I made an appointment to get my dog's teeth cleaned, and after checking him out to put him under, Dr. Stone found a tumor at the base of his tail that turned out to be cancer. He operated on him for HOURS and removed as much as he could. That was 7 years ago, and he lived a very healthy and happy life until the age of 14. When it was finally time for my sweet dog to be put down, Dr. Stone took my teary phone call at 11pm, got out of bed to meet me at the clinic. JoAnn even offered to watch my little girl while I went so I wouldn't have to get her out of bed. Dr. Stone took care of everything for me, and could not have been any more kind. These are truly kind people that love animals.

Rita Crane

Thank you Dr. Stone , Jo Ann and Lauren for the kindness and caring today with Duddliers death.

We brought our cat who was having a medical emergency in here because the vet was close to the house. The lady at the front desk was pretty rude and berated us for not having an appointment. Sorry I couldn't schedule my emergencies in advance. She then yelled at us because we didn't bring the cat's medical record, then finally refused to let us see the vet at all because although he had just finished with a previous patient, he had 'other things to do' than handle an emergency. Ended up taking our cat to Skyline where we were able to see a vet right away. Without an appointment or medical records.

You don't have to wait too get in or if you do it is not long. Dr. Stone is an excellent vet and you can tell from the start that he truly loves animals. He is gentle and caring to them. Would highly recommend his services to any loving pet owners. Warning he will get after you if your pet is over weight or needs teeth cleaned. :-)

This is the worse vet in town. They are rude, and they chastise you for everything. They are rough and uncaring to the animals. We took our dog Lily in to them for her first set of shots and were chastised for it not being exactly at her 6 week mark. We had just gotten her less than a week before. The receptionist was far from kind. This didn’t discourage us we took our other dog there for his shots that he was dew for. He is 8 years old and has never bitten anyone or even acted like he was going to. He has arthritis in his back and gets to hurting bad but has never been mean or anything. Well the vet was yelling at my husband saying he didn’t know what he was talking about and everything. Well he went to grab for Teddy during all this and he bit him. The vet reached back to hit him and my husband stopped him. I have taken my oldest dog to skyline vet for 8 years with the exception of this one time to keep the cost down. I still wound up taking him to skyline for the shots. They treat their pets with a lot more kindness than this place ever has. To conclude my review this office should be put to the very last place on your list of taking your pet. Not only was this my experience of this office but my son took his dog here as well with the same result. Please take your dog or cat somewhere else if you care about him or her. These people do not care about animals or people.

Took my dog here to get neutered because it was the cheapest place in town, and the surgery part I would say went well. Dr. Stone seemed to be a very good doctor and did a good job on the surgery. However, I would not go to this place again just because of the receptionist. She was short and rude with me on the phone when I called to schedule the appointment, and when I took him in, it was even worse. She didn't explain things clearly at all, and I thought he was going to be sent home with a dose or two of medication because that's how she made it sound, but when I went back to pick him up they didn't send me with any. so I asked the girl who walked my dog out to me if he was supposed to get any, and she wasn't sure so we both went in and asked and the receptionist was sooooo rude. She snapped back when the girl asked and literally yelled, "I told her to call me if she wanted any doses!!" And she acted like it was the biggest pain in her ass to do something so simple. The girl that was working for them was really friendly and super kind, but that receptionist is the reason I will not go back nor recommend them to anyone. she was just rude and treated you like you were stupid.

Dr. Stone is great. Always a pleasure to see him. He takes great care of my dogs. The clinic is also great for kenneling. Nice folks there. Dr. Stone always takes the time explain what's going on with my pets. My dogs are always excited to walk in the door to see Joann and Dr. Stone!

I would highly recommend Northgate Vet. I have taken my blue heeler to a couple different vet and he usually ends up being muzzled, because when he is scared he growls. However at Northgate he showed no sign of fear. This is the first vet that has been able to look at his teeth. I could not be happier and will continue to use this vet. They are also cheaper than most of the other vets in town which is great.

I'm the third generation in my family to use Dr. Stone and have always been very pleased with the care my pets have received. He is always so patient and caring and always takes the time to let my dog get to know him before he begins his examination. He is never rushed and takes his time during our visits. It's great to know that whatever the problem is with my dog that he is going to get the best care possible. I'm so grateful to have such a caring and knowledgeable person taking care of my dog whatever problem arises. Concerning the people complaining about the receptionist Joann I agree that at times that she may come off as grumpy but she is only concerned about your pets and if that hurts your feelings so be it, she isn't there for you because you're not at a doctor's office for yourself you are at a veterinary clinic to care for your pets. She doesn't care how your feelings are because after all she is there to help ensure that your pets are getting the best care possible. That's what they are supposed to do so deal with it like a grownup and take it as constructive criticism so you can help your pet like you are supposed to. My son just moved back home from out of town and has two dogs that he is now taking to Dr. Stone so we continue on with a fourth generation now taking our pets to Dr. Stone. Thanks Dr. Stone for all you have done for us and our pets through the years. You are a great man as well as a great veterinarian.

Dr. Stone is wonderful!! He is affordable and takes very good care of my animals!! He is very knowledgeable and very patient with my very whinny German Shepard!! I took my new puppy in a black lab, and she is very squirmy and he was able to calm her down and do what he needed to do. My dogs didn't even know they were getting shots!! I have recommended his to multiple people!!

Karley Hansen

Caused my dog to have multiple surgerys do not recommend this vet.

We love Dr. Stone.. he is great with the animals and gives great advice as well!!!

Dr. Stone is the cutest, chatty little old vet you could ever find! I started taking my small dog Maxwell to him 5 years ago and have enjoyed my experience ever since. His facility is older and nothing fancy but that is not really important to me. Dr. Stone gives amazing quality care- when he comes in the room usually he just says the basic hello to me and then immediately pick up Maxwell (who is shivering violently at this point) holds him close and speaks deeply and calmly to him for a few minutes. It always calms Maxwell's nerves and helps me not feel so bad for him! Dr. Stone is also a wealth of information! Any question I've had, I have always walked away with my question answered and then some! We also love Dr. Stone because his services are so affordable! I don't remember the pricing exactly but back when I had to get Maxwell neutered it was almost a joke how little Northgate charged me! I literally held onto my receipt in my wallet for almost a year and would pull it out to show my other pet-owning friends who usually paid TRIPLE what I did! 2 years ago we moved to Utah but now make it a point to visit Dr. Stone for our annual check up while we are back in town (visiting family) each year for the winter holidays. We are also moving to Ohio next month and Dr. Stone even said he would ship us the Heartworm medication Maxwell will need after moving there! Great price and great customer service! I recommend Northgate Vet to all my friends in the Idaho Falls area! Btw I have not recived any payment/discounts for this endorsement- I really just love Northgate Vet this much! Haha

Trey Crystal

Dr. Stone is amazing bur they have these two new guys in there though that are aweful though. Don't care at all about your animal or you, just money hungry. Dr. Stone is retiring and almost never there.

We like everything about the Northgate Veterinary Hospital. When we moved to Idaho Falls two years ago we had to pick a vet. However, the one we chose was not at all like the one we left in California. We were not happy with him. Our daughter recommended Northgate and Dr. Stone. Our miniature schnauzer, being 14, was having health issues that the other vet would not address without expensive tests and xrays. His exams were very shallow. We took him in to see Dr. Stone. We were prepared to have him put to sleep if Dr. Stone said, "It was time." He took a real interest in Bungee. He really checked him all over. After listening to us explain Bungee's pains, Dr. Stone checked his anal gland and found it excessively plugged up. He cleaned it out and said Bungee will feel a lot better tomorrow. He also gave us some medicine for Bungee's heart murmur, which cleared up his lung congestion. Now, 3 days later, our little dog is a new dog and feeling his old self again. We now have an additional new puppy which we took in for a first checkup and shots. We have complete confidence in Dr. Stone and his staff. They are all great. And besides that, he is very very reasonable in the fees charged. I feel he gives you much more and charges less than any vet we have known. We would recommend him to anybody looking for a good service for their pet.

I'm a third generation client of Dr Stone and couldn't be happier. He's honest and blunt about my pets' health, and while sometimes this could be seen as mean it's really just him not dancing around the point. Joann, his secretary, comes off as grid and rude, but that's not her at all. She runs a tight, well organized ship in that office and really loves the animals. A lot like Dr Stone, she just gets right to the point with what she says. I will be a client of theirs with every pet I can (he doesn't do all animals, but is happy to recommend the best vet for what you have) until he retires.

Paige Waters

Great vet! Takes his time to talk to you and let you know options and what is going on. My dog has seizures and lupus and he made it a lot less scary to deal with. Plus to get medications, it is easy and efficient. I highly recommend Dr. Stone. Plus his prices are great.

Celestial Hope

Took my cat to get her neutered just yesterday, they didn't contact us for this, but when we picked her up the front desk lady said she had 6 kittens and I asked where they were and she said she got rid of them in the procedure.....i am very sad and mad about this. I picked up some medicine today and I told the lady that she should have called me, and her exact words were "I don't think there should be anymore cats in this world".... It was not her decision to make, what do I do.

Lance Paxton

Prompt, very friendly.

I will never go back to this vet again! I adopted my dog from the pound and they said that they used this vet a lot and that this should be a good place to get her spayed. I went and the receptionist was so rude. She acted like it was a chore for me to come in for the appointment. She snatched my dog away from me and hustled her into the back roughly. When I returned to pick my dog up she was not willing to answer my questions and was very rude about my concern for my dog's pain and distress. The only good thing that came from it was that the vet's assistant was very nice to me and my pet. I know many people that have gone here and have been mistreated. As I said I will never go here again!

Elizabeth Johnson

I would recommend Northgate VH to anyone! Dr. Stone is very caring, gentle and patient. He is very caring towards the pet's family as well. We brought our dog in for his annual shots and for boarding( our first visit). Dr. Stone found he had a double ear infection, Which i didn't think he had to look for during that type of appointment. But, He took the time and gave him a quick physical, found the problem and probably saved my dogs hearing. They treated him while he boarded and once we returned he sat down with us and explained home care in great detail. Most places nowadays, you're in and out in minutes and handed a generic sheet of paper on how to take care of the problem. I won't go to any other vet unless it can't be helped.

Megan Rice

I LOVE DR STONE!! He is an amazing vet. We have been coming to him for many many years. He is always so willing to help and do what he can for my family's dogs. He even gave us his cell phone number in case we needed something. I have had dogs my whole life and have been to many different Vet's and he is by far my favorite. My dog had to be put down a few months ago. He was deteriorating very quickly the day that I ended up having to put him down was a Sunday. I gave dr stone a call crying and told him what was going on with my dog. I had talked to him many times in the last month so he already knew the circumstance and he told me he was sorry their was nothing he could do and it was time to put him down, which I already knew. Even though it was a Sunday and he had plans he told me to bring him in. He sat with me and explained everything that would happen and answered all of my questions. After my dog was gone and I had him out in my car to take him home to bury he just hugged me for the longest time. He was sad to see my dog go he even gave him a hug and talked to him. It was comforting to know that he would miss my dog almost as much as I would. My dog was always so excited to see him and via versa. I could not say enough how much I appreciate and love dr Stone. He really cares about the animals he sees. I would take all of my animals to see him and will as long as he is in business.

We love Dr. Stone! He is affordable, very knowledgeable, and genuinely loves our animals!

Karen Smith

We love Dr. Stone and his staff! He helped us prepare for a wonderful experience with our maltese puppy! Our dog Lucy and our pup Rosie adore him. We bred our Lucy girl and He helped us every step of the way. He always makes you feel like you are the most important pet while he is taking care of you. He loves animals and is direct and loving. I cannot say enough wonderful things about Dr. Stone and Joanna! We love them dearly!

Hans Gougar

We have taken our pets to Dr. Stone for over 15 years. He clearly has 'a way' with our critters and handles them very well. His office hours work well with my busy schedule, rates are very reasonable, and he gies us sound, honest advice.

Halyna Hill

The vet is a good doctor!!! He is very good both to the pet owners and the pets. The receptionist lady on the other hand... There is one, an older lady, and she is short with you and rude. I called to check out their rabies vaccination price (which is low) and it went something like this: me- "when do you have available time?" her - "well, what works for you?" Me - "uuummm, how about today?.." her - "oh no, I don't have anything until the week after." What??? Well, why even ask me about what works for me!! And it was like that with every question, made me feel stupid actually. So I ended up going to a more expensive place where everyone was respectful. The end.

Jackie Flowers

Dr Stone and his team at Northgate Veterinary Hospital are competent and caring animal medical providers for a full range of services - routine vaccinations to surgery to boarding. My animals are always excited to see them and the medical care is always top notch. I take great comfort in knowing my animals are under their care.

Deborah Newby

There are not enough stars to describe Dr. Stone. I have been going to him for over 13 years and he has seen me through many ups and downs with my dogs. He and JoAnn were there for me every step of the way as my precious Hailey was reaching the end of her life. Trips to the office for medication were routine for nearly a year and half before it was finally time. They were amazing through this difficult process in terms of the care they provided to both Hailey and I. It wasn’t long after that that I returned to Dr. Stone with my new puppy and then his little sister. I love the fact that my dogs squeak with excitement when we arrive for a visit. They can sense my deep trust for Dr. Stone and there is no fear. Yes he gives them shots and has done surgery on them, but he also gives them treats and pets them and cares for them and in return they too trust him. I have had emergencies with my dogs, there have been late night phones calls, there have been questions galore. All I can say is I couldn’t ask for a better vet. I trust completely with my most precious fur babies. Many thanks to him, JoAnn, and his staff for their continued outstanding care and kudos too for the shelter animals to which they provide care.

Shailyn Gonzalis

In my opinion they dont even need a one star rating! I have a 7 month old pit bulL, full of energy and always excited to see other people and animals, wouldnt hurt a fly, she needed to get her rabies shot, so i made the appointment. The receptionist was so rude. I had an appointment at 3 pm and i was even running late, they said it was fine, i got there almost ten minutes late, the vet was no where in sight for about 20 minutes. Upon arriving there, there was another dog in the office, my dog was so excited to play with the other one (which the owners of didnt like the look of my dog) so to prevent any conflict i was turning around with her and walking out, while i was walking out the receptionist called me back in just to tell me i needed to go outside, which i was already in the process of. After the other dog left i went back in with my dog, and sat and waited. The vet finally came around, so we went into the exam room and he examened her, and gave her shots. Well Lola (my dog) had just broke a little piece of her nail getting out of the truck so he decided to try to pick it off, which it obviously wasnt going to happen, and he still tried after her trying to get away from him and yelping cause of the pain. He gave her, her shot, then told me to go out the side door and take her to the truck, on the way out he tells me i NEED to get her a choke chain, cause she s in control all because she was excited and wanted to play. ANYBODY who knows ANYTHING about pitbulls knows that their air way is way fragil unlike anyother dog. Well i go outside, i wait for the dog thats in the office to go into the exam room, so that lola wouldnt be tryin to play with it, no longer than 3 minutes, the vet comes out and tells me put her in the truck, then come inside to pay, that ll be the quickest way to get done. TO PUT HER IN MY TRUCK!!! (ITS 90 DEGREES, AND THE VET WANTS ME TO PUT MY DOG IN THE TRUCK!!!) Needless to say, LOLA AND ANY OTHER ANIMAL I HAVE WILL EVER EVER EVER GO THERE!!!!!

J La

We are new in town and needed a vet. Dr. Stone gave our dog a thorough check up and we were so pleased we took our dog back to get his teeth cleaned. Dr. Stone spent time addressing my questions and concerns and did an excellent job. Definitely recommend.

Cassie Nave

Love everything about it! The staff is so friendly, and the office is always so clean. Can't say enough good things about this place! The doctor and staff care so much about the pets and owners. I will definitely be recommending this veterinarian to everyone.
