Dr. Anderson was fantastic with my miniature pinscher, Sparta. She is Kind, empathic, completely thorough and one of the best vets we’ve had the pleasure to meeting. All employees at the clinic were professional, empathic and extremely helpful. Thank you.

Waited there for 3hours just before they closed they attended us.You might be thinking "oh they must've been busy" but no the funniest thing is there was no-one there,no line just empty. After the 3rd hour I looked over catching one of the employee's eyes. After that they attended us.What did they think we were there for to take a nap?Yes my dog was annoyed waiting so long for them.It was to fix an issue that they caused themselves a very very avoidable issue they caused a week before were they were unprofessional. Not only that but when we went to her appointment that week since she was very sick their first comment on the matter was to put her down.Yes,that hurt me deeply.I cried and occuring to my family which was with me at the time said that her doctor was glaring at me.Why would that be the first thing to say and why would you do that? What did she expect me to burst out laughing and smack my brother on the back "Good joke".Honestly really despised going there. We looked for help elsewhere.

My cat Loki had a laceration and went to west vet emergency on 08/08/19, they put a tie over bandage on her (because it was to big to stitch) and told me to get it replaced on 08/09/19. I went to Idaho humane society that day and was put in an exam room almost immediately. I told the doctor about what they said and so He took loki into the back. He came back 2-4 minutes later, I said "Wow that was quick, are you done?" He said yes and asked if I wanted to see. He then showed me my cats unbandaged deep laceration. He said that they could stitch it up and it would be completely fine. He then went back again to get price estimates, leaving me alone with my hyperactive cat who has a deep bleeding open wound for about 10-15 minutes give or take. He came back and told me that they wanted to spay her at the same time. I didn't want her to have to go through anastasia again, so I said yes. I filled out the paper work and left. When I picked her up, none of the paper work said anything about spaying, so I asked about it. The lady at the front desk didn't see anything about it so she went to the back and asked. Apparently, they cut her open to spay her and she was already spayed. I figured that they wouldn't have offered to spay her unless they knew that she was intact. They had no intention of telling me any of this and I assume were just hoping I would not ask about it. Anyway, when I got home, I looked at her wound to make sure everything was okay. The skin was pulled so tight it folded over and when she walked her leg skin was being pulled towards the sutures. The drain placement looked wrong and everything about it seemed horrible. So, I took her to west vet emergency and she is currently waiting for surgery to open it back up and place a tie over bandage because the wound is still to big to be sutured. Also, they are removing the drain because it is way to high and isn't doing anything for the wound. I don't know what the hell they were thinking, because even I with no medical experience at all could see that it was very wrong. $285 for them to mutilate my cat. Please don't bring your fur babies here. Update: They removed the drain, and cleaned up the wound. They are trying to leave the stitches in to see If it can heal as is, because they don't want to keep opening her up. I have a follow up appointment today.

We got there 15 minutes before they closed for lunch with 4 two and a half week old kittens who werent eating and we found a flea on one. The concerned staff told us they couldn't miss their lunch in 15 minutes, to bring the malnourished kittens back at 2pm after they ate.

I called ahead and explained my financial situation and that I had to leave the emergency room without service even thought my dog was super sick. The ER told me to come to the humane society and they would work with me but since I didn't want to put myself in a bad situation not being able to pay I called the humane society first. I explained I had a dog with severe diarrhea and vomiting but did not qualify for care credit and wanted to know if I could set up a payment plan. She asked me what I could pay at the time of the visit and I said honestly I dont know I went overdrawn on my account last night to get something for my dogs nausea and so anything is more than a can afford today but I could probably do $20. I also explained on the phone that I could make a payment arrangement but that the card was not in my name as my boyfriend would be using his account but he could not come to the appointment. I was told that he had to be present but to go ahead and not worry about it and they would do an exam and evaluate him at no cost and we would discuss treatment, further testing, and cost after the exam. I arrived and shared the entire conversation with the receptionist as the lady I spoke with was not there. She told me ok and that I could wait in the car with my dog because before they would even examine him they had to test for parvo. During this whole time they all knew full well my options for payment and the amount I could do up front. So without saying they had to charge for the test or what the test would cost I sat in my car for 30 minutes waiting. He tested negative and was taken to an exam room where I was for all of 5 minutes the vet came in said it was probably a bacterial infection prescribed a probiotic and antibiotic I asked her the cost of the meds and they were within what I'll could do today and she left. I walked to the receptionist desk and was given a grand total of $165 dollars. I once again explained that I was told to bring him in and they would examine him for free and we could go from there so I asked what med was so expensive and she said "well the meds are cheap but the parvo and exam were $120." At this point I was upset but wasn't rude in any way even though at this point I was lied to and taken advantage of. She spoke with her manager and she came back and told me that $20 is fine as a down payment on a payment plan since it's all I had to my name. I said that's fine but I have a card that isn't in my name so I either have to use it or come back later with my boyfriend. She once again spoke to her manager who this time came and spoke with me herself. She told me that was not ok and that I had to make the arrangement now and asked if he could come in even though multiple times I had explained he was at work and could not leave. She said "well your account here will be frozen and you will not be allowed to come back for any treatment or services till this debt is paid in full you also have 90 days to pay it completely or it will be sent to collections." At this point I'm done I've been lied to my dog is freaking out because its loud and i can't put him down so as I struggle to hold him, keep my composure, not break down in tears and pay the $20 I said "that's fine we will get it paid and we will never be coming back here again after having been lied to and mistreated." Without saying another word she left me standing there and I spent another 15 minutes waiting for a loan from my boyfriend's dad just to pay $20 of a debt that should not have occurred at all. I'm hurt and feel taken advantage of by an organization that is supposed to be nonprofit and is here to help animals and there families. My boyfriend and I will be finding out who we need to contact to make a formal complaint. I'm tired of people taking advantage and lying knowing that persons situation and options. I loved the humane society and was hoping to someday adopt another furry friend to give a home when my home was ready but as of now I will never do business with them again So sorry they felt they had to treat me this way.

Great service just wish they had enough staff to move things along a little quicker on check-in and check-out. Overall a good experience regardless. Our little monster is at home, resting and healing up well after his surgery.

1400 hundred for surgery and it's a difficult place to splint !!! Well we have been splinting it and he is healing great using the paw better and better every day if you go their I reccomend getting a second opinion as they have no compassion and are just money hungry also make sure you have your debit or credit card on hand for their payment plan which they DO NOT TELL U OVER THE PHONE!!! IF I KNEW HOW I WOULD ADD PHOTOS AND A VIDEO OF HIS GREAT PROGRESS!!!Also you got to love how when they respond blaming the owners for everything that went wrong with the visit and they do not take any responsibility for their or there employees actions !!!ALSO WITHOUT THE SURGERY HE JUST HAS A SLIGHT LIMP SO U TELL ME US TAKING CARE OF IT AND STABILIZING IT WHICH THEY SAID COULDNT BE DONE WHICH WE DID!! AND HIM HAVING A SLIGHT LIMP OR A SURGERY THAT COULD HAVE NOT WORKED AND THAN HE WOULD HAVE HAD ONLY 3 LEGS BECAUSE THEY ARE MONEY HUNGRY!!!!HA ALL THEY KEPT SAYING WAS YOU NEED TO RELEASE HIM TO US YA I DONT THINK SO!!! SO U CAN CHARGE SOME REALLY HI FEE BECAUSE THEY ALL SAID HOW BEAUTIFUL HE WAS I REALLY THINK BEFORE ANYMORE STATE FUNDS GO TO THAT PLACE THEY NEED TO BE INVESTIGATED!!!

Make an appointment! They take care credit, the Vets here are great they see a lot of animals, my dog has a lifelong disease (Cushings) the medicine for the disease is costly and the side effects could be worse than the disease, the vet offered a different approach of care and I appreciated the honesty.

Morty Prisament

Considering the sheer volume of people/animals they serve, very good job, good staff.. however overwhelmed!

Awful. I brought my cat in because he needed some dental work. I had him seen by a local vet the day before and the quote was very high. The man on the phone said that IHS in most cases was significantly cheaper but, that I would have to bring him in for a walk in exam. Unfortunately, my cat has anxiety about being in a carrier so he puked, peed and vomited. The lady at the front desk was nice but it was about a three hour weight. I explained to her at check in that I was hoping to get a better quote for dental and asked for a range. She would not give me a price range. I finally got into a room but, I was waiting for another 45 min. At least my cat could get out of his cage. They asked for the records of the last exam that were provided. When the vet finally came in she was extremely rude. She asked why I was there even though she had the records. I said that I was coming for a quote for dental and told her what the other vet suggested. She just looked at me and said well we're probably going to be much higher. I asked given the other vets recommendation could she give me a quote. She would not. I asked why then could they not give me a range so we did not have to wait. She said the front desk doesn't know our pricing. Unbelievable. I would not waste your time with these people. The vet was extremely rude.

Tells you your appointment is at 7:30am on a Saturday morning. When you arrive by 7:30am be prepared to sit in the parking lot until 8:00am when they open . Why schedule appointments before clinic opens? To waste my time??

Very Poor Service! They Killed my Dog!!!

I went in on the 6th because my newly rescued dog from the humane shelter was sick and they said they’d take care of health problems for two weeks. My dog had vomited up a darker pink vomit and I called and they told me to come in. They couldn’t have spent more than five minutes with my dog and they decided that she has kennel cough. They gave me a discount on the meds too because it was within the 14 days. But since going in my dog’s symptoms have gotten worse she hasn’t been able to keep food down and has been vomiting consistently. My dog wasn’t even coughing. They didn’t even tell me what the pills were for or the side effects would be. Today the 8th I went to another vet and they told me my dog is sick because of one of the meds and she might not have even had kennel cough. I don’t trust these vets.

I took my dog to the Idaho humane society veterinary medical a few months ago and they told me that she had one loose tooth and it may need to come out but it was highly unlikely that it would need to. I brought my chihuahua in to get her teeth cleaned and that was ALL I WANTED DONE! The vet called me two or three hours later to tell me that she was doing good and waking up and that he had to pull 3 teeth (and that she had already 7 teeth missing) he called back again and I said "okay can you please go over with me how many teeth you pulled IN total" he told me 10 I started crying and freaking out about it I was so upset that they couldn't notify me first. and then I thought maybe he was counting 10 and total since she already had seven missing I asked him why he pulled them and he never told me her gums were infected/inflamed just that they were loose. (Don't reply they weren't I know what he told me) I was crying and completely freaking out on why someone in their right mind would pull all those teeth....that is half of her mouth without letting me know!!!!! The lady said to us "we never really know how many teeth need to be pulled or what's going on until we put them under and we get into their mouth and get a better look" which she said "YOU KNEW THAT AND I TOLD YOU THAT THIS MORNING WHEN YOU BROUGHT HER IN!" Maybe INSTEAD you could have said "hey if I find a bunch of teeth that need to be pulled we're not going to notify you we're just going to do it" WHAT I WAS HOPING INSTEAD WAS that they just cleaned her teeth and didn't pull anything that way I could have gone and gotten a second opinion or even a third but now instead of just cleaning her teeth you pull out HALF HER MOUTH!!!!!!!! They tell me that it's in the best interest for my dog and they're not going to leave in a bad tooth she could get sick and blah blah blah. I understand that but ultimately it should be up to me on what I do with my dog. they tell me the price will be anywhere between 250 and 500 and that they would call me and let me know the price before I came and got her (never got a call not a big deal) when I get there they want to charge me over 500 and that was not the deal!!!! She ended up lowering it down to $400 how? I have no idea how! Worst and most traumatizing experience ever I will never come back!!! so I suggest if you take your dog into get their teeth clean ask them to just clean her teeth and nothing elses if teeth need to be pulled they can just let you know about it and you can go in a second time or get other opinions from other veterinarians first!!!!!!!!!

Just got a sweet boy on mothers day. 8 days later due to a phone system that sends you to voicemail instead of talking to someone or being put on hold... I was not able to be by my phone to receice a call back. I ended up setting up an appt at another vet to find my new dog has a pneumonia forming.. And has snot dripping out of his nose. 300.00 in medication later my other dog has now been infected with this bad cough. Communication is not good and I think that if within yhe first week himane society should be covering the med cost . ill probably write another review on the adoption piece as tbose workers were amazing .Just saf that the testing is not thorough enough before having kennel mates and before letting them go home.

They took good care of my cat when he had a urinary blockage, I was an emotional mess and they helped me feel better. I wish I could remember the doctor's name who helped him, but she was very sweet and caring. I wish I would have taken my cat here first instead of taking him to west vet.

I've switched both my dogs over to here from their previous vet (who I've gone to for 15 years). These guys are so easy to work with. They take payment, which no one else does. All the doctors are super awesome. I feel so comfortable leaving my dogs in their hands

These guys truly have the animals best interest at heart. I have always volunteered at the humane society in different cities that I've lived in, and Boise really does such a great job. I won't take my pets anywhere else for care, their clinic has the most thoughtful veterinarians I have ever met. The work they do here is truly sacred, and so important to our community.

Called ahead for getting our dog fixed after her heat cycle. They said 3 weeks would be plenty of time, took her in and they took her back and came out and wanted to charge $75 more because they said her insides were still inflamed and there is no way for us to tell. We said we’ll just bring her back and they said they had already medicated her. They would not waive the fee so we had to bring our dog back home and waste a whole morning and be late to work since the have the worst location in the valley

This review is regarding Dr. Anderson & in no way reflects the other staff within this medical center or the Idaho Humane Society adoption staff. I have adopted two dogs in the last year from them & they have all been kind, informative & respectful to me on all occasions. Dr. Anderson is a different story. I came in for my free, within 14 days of adopting, appointment because I noticed my dog had very bloodshot eyes & the inside of her ears seemed to have some sores on them from day 1 of bringing her home. I will add I sat in the waiting room for 1 1/2 hours past the time my appointment was supposed to be. There were a lot of emergency walk-ins that needed to be pushed ahead of me so I was understanding & patient & waited until they could fit me in. Finally I am in a room & Dr. Anderson comes in. She does not greet me in any way. No hello, no introduction. Her eyes go straight to the prong collar my dog is wearing & demands I "drop the leash," she says this once more as she sees I am not giving in to her very rude demand. Keep in mind my dog had enough slack in her leash to greet the Dr. with no pressure from her collar. She then goes off on me telling me these collars are abusive & she can't believe I would use one of these on my dog. Continues to say everyone here hates these collars & they should be banned. Basically making me out to be an abusive pet owner. I have done a lot of research on these collars & my reputable dog trainer is the one that recommended the collar in the 1st place. These collars have been used to train countless dogs over the years including military & police dogs & even have helped dogs with anxiety. These collars have blunt prongs on them & are used as a quick reminder, with pressure, when "your dog walks you," reminding them this is not okay. Both my dogs would drag you when I first adopted them & both of them after a couple minutes of training with the collar "respect the leash." The collar just becomes "jewelry" after they understand "pulling means pressure". I have never harmed them in any way but you know what will harm them? When a very strong, 50lb dog drags you, gets away from you & gets hit by a car. This Dr. could use some education on the matter instead of going off on people, in a attempt to shame or bully clients into believing the same thing she does. Especially on something she probably has never used & does not understand. This Dr. is rude, sarcastic & verbally attacks instead of stating her opinion. She went on to say my dogs eyes were red as a result of her collar & also said something super sarcastic about the sores in her ears. This appointment was a total waste of my time. My dogs finally have a loving home & I do a very good job keeping them happy & health so to be leaving feeling hurt from a complete stranger that should be professional & kind was awful.

Our chihuahua was deathly ill, and they let us walk in on a Saturday, even though they'd had many such cases that day and were way behind. We could not afford all of the costs for the tests and treatment she needed, but they were able to help us out with a grant. They gave us a blanket made by a volunteer. Everyone was so nice even though they'd had a long day that wasn't over yet.

The staff an vets are top notch. I couldn't have asked for better treatment for my fur baby an myself. The vets work themselves to the bone to save every animal possible. They go above an beyond to help every animal and every person. I can't speak highly enough about them.

Showed up and was told it's a 2 hour wait, they would call about 30 mins before it was our turn. They called and we where 5 minutes away, so they just skipped us and pushed us back of the line. The "30 minute" pre-call as told is a bunch of phoney baloney, they even told another pet parent they would call and then when he was "called " in the waiting room, the staff talking to each other just said give him a call hopefully he doesn't even come back, they called him and he walked in less than 2 minutes later and was told they moved 3 others ahead who where waiting, yet the only people waiting in the waiting room where a couple with a dog with a broken leg, and us... who where the other 3? But the vet care was spot on, from the veterinarians, We where told it would cost $800 to have a hernia repaired on our 16lb dog. The vet here did a test and found it was just a fatty mass and not to be worried. The customer service needs improvement big time, revamped, and taught that they would not be employed if it was not for Tax payers, donations and paying customers like myself. Paid $192 for the visit and when they asked for a donation I told the lady I would love to if they stopped laughing about how they treated customers behind their backs, in direct view of other customers whom where just told the same thing. Might be time for IHS to clean up the front end and hire actual CUSTOMER SERVICE personL.

One star only because the people were nice but my dog needed x-rays done and instead of doing that the vet gave her some antibiotics and anti-inflammatory meds and told me to come back in two weeks if the dog wasn't better. Although I did qualify for the discount, it still cost me $80.00 for the meds and visit... It helped a little bit but I still ended up taking the dog to another vet for x-rays and to remove the foreign object from her throat two weeks later. I wasted 80.00 and my dog was miserable for two extra weeks because they didn't do the x-rays that I asked for in the first place. I was not very pleased about the whole thing and even though they claim to be a low cost clinic, I have found many other vets to be more reasonably priced. I believe that they accept payments instead of paying the whole bill at once but I am not sure of the details on how it works. I would suggest calling first on that if you plan to take your pet here and are in need of a payment plan - vet bills can run up VERY quickly as anyone with a sick pet can tell you! And at least at this place the money goes to benefit the shelter and that at least is a good thing.
