I absolutely love Alta Animal Hospital! I've taken my schnauzer in quite a few times and they always treat us so well. Yes they are a little expensive, but in my opinion, it's worth it. You get what you pay for, and here, you pay for excellent service. Just this week our schnauzer had surgery to remove bladder stones. It's only been a few days and he's been healing wonderfully. Dr. Haney, (who we usually see almost every time we go in), and Dr. Burkman are just absolutely wonderful. They know what they are talking about, and they generally care about the well being of my dog. I have never had an issue at all with anybody there, or with any service they have ever provided. Also the rest of the staff are wonderful. The girls at the front desk are always so friendly. Everyone there just treats us so well and are always patient and kind to my dog.

I would just like to personally thank Dr. Nickisch for her kind and compassionate care of my dog when he had emergency surgery on a Sunday night to close numerous neck wounds after he was attacked by another dog. He was clearly in shock and demonstrating some aggression right after this event as he was nearly killed. Even though he was extremely difficult to work with, Dr. Nickisch was prompt, professional, and was able to safely sedate him so that she could close his wounds. We took him back to our normal vet today for a dressing change and follow up and he looks great. Amazingly, after a life threatening event, he is back to begging me for a piece of cheese at the table. We have our dog back! Thanks to Dr. Nickisch who saved my dog's life! We are very grateful.

I came in sight unseen with a puppy emergency. I was new in Pocatello and simply googled animal emergency and dialed the first number that hit. Lucky for me, it was Alta Animal Hospital. Dr. Nickisch was incredibly responsive, communicative, and assuring. I felt included in the treatment process at every step. I never questioned whether my dog was in good hands. Throughout the day while they kept Bruce for treatment I received calls from the friendly staff and Dr. Nickisch herself with updates. When I came back the next day for a follow up I loved the way Dr. Nickisch was right down on the floor with my pup, checking him out not only for the issue at hand but constantly feeling him for bumps and spots and whatever other evidence he contained from his bad dog adventures. I prefer a vet that's willing to get down on the ground with the dog, pet him and play with him and give a really hands on examination. It makes the pup, and myself, much more comfortable. The facilities are beautiful, clean, and comfortable. I really appreciate that there are separate waiting areas for cats and dogs, makes for a much easier (and quieter) waiting time for my dog. Also, most vets I've visited seem bustling and crazy and loud. The atmosphere at Alta is much quieter and calm, and I loved my entire experience. I now have a vet for all my dogs!

We were in Lava Hot Springs on vacation and our dogs paw swelled up and he was limping around. He wouldn't leave it alone and on the second day we could see a puncture wound. Alta Animal Hospital was the closest so I called and they were able to get us in later that day. They called back after 10 mins and had a cancellation so we went right in. The ladies at the front desk were very nice and welcoming. The technician was very nice and treated our dog great. The vet came in and was very good. She was loving with the dog and explained everything to me. She was very knowledgeable and great with the dog. She truly has found her calling. He had got the pokey grass in his paw and it was infected. She took time to clean out the rest of his paws and found a lot more. They sedated him to clean out the infected, swollen paw as he was in pain. They gave us medicine for him and were very fast overall. Also, considering how bad he was and how much they did the bill was less than I was expecting. I was very impressed and greatful for the help and service. They even let him keep the ball he found in the office to keep him calm. I wish I could find a vet in my area that I was as impressed with.

Took my pup here for some typical vaccinations and he ended up having an allergic reaction when we took him home. The staff was very friendly and so helpful! After consulting with them via phone I brought him back in a few hours later where they gave him benedryl and monitored him for an hour or so. Unfortunately we moved from Pocatello but I definitely recommend them.

Spent a 1000 dollars in treatment for them to tell me that my dog was probably going to die, with the only other option being thousands of dollars for surgery that would probably kill my dog. Talked to my farmer friend who told me to give my dog caster oil which unclogged my dogs system and put her in good health. This place promotes expensive unnecessary surgeries regardless of what's best for the animal. Uncertain if its blatant incompetence that they are unable to identify a 2 dollar safe alternative or if they are just after money? Pretty sure it's all about the money!

My husband and I chose Alta for our pets on a whim, and we've been very pleased with the service. The staff and technicians are excellent, and we adore Dr. Sheena Haney! When we had to make the painful decision to euthanize our boy Jack because of bone cancer, Dr. Haney was so kind and compassionate....you could tell it hurt her almost as much as it hurt us, and yet she handled it so professionally. Having all the staff there that day made it that much easier to say goodbye. Thanks, Alta!

I want to start off saying the staff and doctors are all very nice and I never felt like they didn't care about my dogs well being. I give a two star review because of their pricing. They are VERY expensive. I have never left Alta paying less than $175. I felt on one visit that the medications that were prescribed were presumptuous and of course they cost me hundreds of dollars and didn't even solve my dogs issue. They were prescribed on a whim of what may be happening and I somewhat felt as if the doctor knew I would pay the bill because I cared about my dog. I researched some online pet medication sites and found the same prescriptions for substantially cheaper than what Alta charges for them. I would say for sure they make a huge amount of money off of pet prescriptions. If you choose to go to Alta, don't purchase your pets prescriptions from them. Lastly the waiting time is also very long. Last time I was in I was in for almost an hour and a half before I finally stuck my head out of an exam room and asked the receptionist if we were going to be seen any time soon. I was told the doctor who was going to see us had an emergency come up, which is fine, but that would have been nice to know an hour ago! Luckily another doctor had been there the whole time spent 5 minutes with my dog, prescribed her expensive pills and I was finished in about an hour and 45 minutes, (and we had a scheduled appointment so they knew we were coming), with $175 bill. On the plus side, the pills did resolve her problem that time.

The staff and vet (Dr. D Richardson) were very helpful, professional and personable. I brought my dog in for what turned out to be an ear infection while we were visiting family. Not having your own vet when your dog is sick is unsettling, but everyone put my mind at ease, provided the care my dog needed and ... he was given a star sticker on his forehead for being such a good patient!! Never had that before!!

My dog had a bad bump on her jaw and was weeping fluids, on a Saturday morning they wee the only ones open till noon, not even our regular vet, they were completely booked but allowed me to bring her in anyways, the offered to hold onto her and would look at her in between appointments. Extremely busy they did not get to her till way after they closed but the staff tilled 6pm to treat her and let me take her home that night. They were very nice and understanding and not once tried to turn me away or refer me to somebody else just because they didnt have time for her. Very greatful for them taking such good care of her.

Alta Vet took very good care of my Scottie until I had to put him down 3 years ago. They now provide excellent care for my teacup Maltese, yorkipoo, and tabby cat. The Vets are kind, friendly and thorough with my furbabies. It's really like taking my babies to the pediatrician! The office is always friendly and helpful too. I highly recommend Alta Veterinary Hospital to everyone who cares about their pets.

Love Alta animal hospital. When out rotty got really sick and we couldn't find a place to take her because everyone was full, Alta got us in the same day. During the sickness we were in and out of that office daily for about 3 weeks. About our 3rd visit we had seem all the vets there and we were scheduled to see nickish that day, of whom we had never met. We loved her, she was so caring and compassionate. And even my dog loved her. Star (my rotty) lived in there hospital for weeks before she finally succumbed to her sickness. We were able to do the procedure outside under the trees and we were able to say good by with a beautiful, peaceful setting. Nickish is our bet of choice here. But no complaints about any others either. Love Alta

Alta is a wonderful place to take pets! I have been going there for several years with my many rescue cats and dogs and have never had an unpleasant experience. Everyone there is caring and compassionate to pets and people. Whether it is for routine check ups, neutering/spaying, emergencies or euthanasia, I have always left satisfied with the care my pets have received. If I were to have one complaint, it is that they just won't treat me. I have to go to a "people doctor."

I took my 7 month old lab puppy in to get fixed. My wait to see a vet technician was very short and everyone was very helpful and genuine. Their prices are competitive and you are getting what you pay for, very satisfied with everything Alta offers and this will be my vet provider until I move out of the Pocatello area. The only reason this doesn’t have 5 stars is due to the lack of signage the entire business park lacks. It would be wise to put up another small entrance sign so you don’t end up at the old people medicine store across the way.
