From the moment you walk in, you feel like you are surrounded by friends! Everyone is so kind! Of course, I'm a HUGE fan of Michael Larson who always takes care of my pets as well as my dad's. The only issue I have is everyone wants to swipe my precious pup, haha

My greyhound was limping, and my normal vet thought it was a knee issue. Thanks to some recommendations from our adoption group and a forum online, I made a call to Lake City for a second opinion. Phyliss was able to get us in ASAP as I was traveling the next day. Dr. Carmichael was able to quickly determine that it was just a very bad toe sprain. What a relief! He was thorough and took the time to explain the diagnosis and next steps. We got a different anti-inflammatory, and our boy was good as new almost 24 hours later. If you have a grey, this is the place to go.

We had to bring our cat, Fitzgerald, in after hours for an emergency. Dr. Tietjen was nothing short of educated and compassionate about what was going on. Our cat had to stay for 4 nights, including a weekend. The staff and doctors kept us in the loop, even after hours, the entire time. I am so grateful to Dr. Tietjen, Dr. Haber, and the entire staff because they went above and beyond for our sweet boy! I did not leave with any questions regarding his stay or his after care at home. I would highly recommend them to other pet owners! Thank you!!!

Love this place! Dr Carmichael saved my dog Dasie. Who knew that my cats food would completely destroy a German shepherds tummy? She's bossy and was eating the cats food without my knowledge. They took great care of her and understood that I was freaked out when they had to keep her over night. One of the technicians actually called me early the next morning to give me a report on her health and offered to send me a pic of my baby. Now I know why this place has been trusted by the neighborhood for many many many years. Thank you !!!

Our beloved Maple passed on 4/30/15. She was cared for with the most loving attention you could imagine by all the staff at Lake City Animal Hospital. She (and we her parents) spent numerous days in extreme distress and everyone there was generous with their time and love for all. We tried treatments that made sense for Maple's age and condition and pretty much let the doctors guide us with what care they felt would give Maple the best chance to pull through as well as quality of life. When it was determined they could not do any more for Maple we all let her go. We feel this is an extraordinary hospital with excellent cared and bed side manor. The total dollars spent was well below what we had expected with the amount of care she received. My parting words to them was it might be a few years but we will be back...

Dr. Carmichael is amazing. He is understanding and was spot on with diagnosis.

This is not a bad vet but it certainly could be better. It seems like they have so many clients that they cannot give each animal the individual time and care that they need. At one visit they were so busy they forgot to do the urinalysis they were supposed to do on my cat so I had to come back in and pay for another appointment. I have never been to an appointment that didn't take more than an hour and a half, even for a follow up. It always takes about 20-30 min. to check out as well. The front desk staff will say the doctor will call but in reality you have to call 2 or 3 times to get any answers. This is not only unprofessional but very nerve wracking when you have a sick pet. I have also found some of the front desk staff are very rude on many occasions. Needless to say, when I finally do get these latest rounds of test results back I will be taking them and my pets to another vet.

We wouldn't dream of taking our pup and 2 kitties anywhere except Lake City! From day one they've treated our babies like their babies. Excellent care, every time!

Everette Lancaster

Excellent Vet, have been going here for over 15 years

We have had a few persisting issues with our cat over the last year and a half and Dr. Haber and her care have continued to be what keep us coming back to Lake City, despite the 35 minute drive (as we no longer live in Acworth). They haven’t been “money hungry” at all and have charged us far less than what other vets have charged, so I don’t agree with what a lot of these reviews say about that. She loves our cat and raves about him every time we bring him in. I’ve been to several other vets before and have never had the experience and treatment what we get here. The staff in the front is always friendly, and I honestly don’t have any complaints over the last 18 months and 6-10 visits.

Best vet around! We drive 45 mins just to see them!

I will never take any of my animals to this place again! I have had an absolutely horrible time with this veterinarian office! I took one of my babies in to them when she was having an emergency! I’ll admit they got her in immediately but after that there were lots of issues! My dog ended up with a sever diagnosis & some choices had to be made! The vet I was dealing with made me feel like a horrible human being for my decision to have my dog put down instead of trying to move her to another vet with her already struggling to breathe! After that while we were spending the last few moments with my sweet baby the staff comes in to bring us the bill to be paid bc they were closing up (which I feel is very disrespectful). When all is said & done I had chosen to have my dog cremated to keep her with me forever & they gave us the paperwork & said we’d get a call in a few days from them. So this all happened on a Saturday. By Wednesday I still had yet to get a call from the cremation service so I called them up to find that Lake City hadn’t even contacted them to come get my dog!! I call them very unhappy about this situation & they proceeded to tell me they dropped the ball but luckily my dog was still there. She had been sitting there for 4 1/2 days! (Like seriously!) But it gets even better! They also had sent out a bill stating that we missed paying for services & would like the payment! Which at this point this is there fault for missing the payment bc they chose to rush us around & out from being able to soak up all the love we could with our baby! These people are inconsiderate & I feel as if all they care about money & pushing people out as fast as they can! I would NOT I repeat WOULD NOT recommend using them & taking your fur babies to people who are truly going to care!

I cannot say enough things about the vets and the entire staff. My dogs actually are not afraid to go in!

They are absolutely amazing! I have never experienced such care and consideration at a vet before. My father passed away and we were having to find a rescue for his beloved dog. They helped us tremendously!!! I'm amazed at the compassion the staff, Hope especially, has for animals! Truly an answer to a prayer in the worst of times. Can not thank them enough!!!!

I have a lot of animals. Here are some of the bad experiences I've had with this practice. 1. They pulled the wrong teeth on my 3 year old cat. I now have a toothless cat. No apologies and made me pay for the anesthesia for the second surgery. 2. My dog was examined because she wasn't walking normally. She was diagnosed with a few bad teeth. She died of cancer a few weeks later. 3. My dog was given several rounds of steroids and antibiotics over a 1 and a half years for his swollen back legs. This cost upwards of $3000. He died of Lymphoma. I googled two swollen back legs on dog. #1 diagnosis is Lymphoma. My dog died in agony. They don't give a DAMN about your pet. They milk you.

Love Dr Carmichael and all the vets here! I board my dog on a regular basis! And he loves all the kennel staff!!

Cristy DeAngelis

I have never been so pissed and disappointed at a vet. If I could give them negative stars I would. I asked for an orthopedic surgeon after my dog needed a surgery on her rear leg and they told me dr. Carmichael and that they could do the surgery here. Only to find out 2 weeks after surgery this said Dr is not a specialist in orthopedics but just a GENERAL surgeon. Not only that, I wrote down what medications she was on from the emergency vet prior to her surgery. They prescribed her another medication and told me to give it to her that night. This medication reacted with her previous and perforated her stomach(usually needs a 5 day wash out period and it was only 72 hours) ... after spending $15K in emergency surgery I will never step into this place again. I agree that the staff was friendly but I would never trust them with my babies again. I almost lost my best friend . Don't go here if you would like to keep your animals alive and safe!!!

For a dog, the annual visit plus a rabies shot was over $200. We are a military family that has lived up and down the east coast, we didn't expect Georgia to have the most expensive vet we have ever been to. After the first visit, the staff seems to feel as if they don't need to be polite anymore and they add on a lot of extra stuff to get more money out of you. We just felt like they tried to take advantage of us. Very disappointed, going to a new vet that has more competent staff.

My dog became ill when he was being boarded while I was on vacation. I was never called about his condition. He had been having diarrhea so they gave him 2 different meds and did a fecal parasite screening all without my informed consent. NO ONE EVEN ATTEMPTED TO CALL ME ABOUT MY DOG'S WORSENING CONDITION! I would have been fine with the meds and screening if I had just been informed. They are too busy of a clinic to let owners know how their pets are doing while being boarded. I picked him up and never even got an apology. Lake City, thank you for keeping my dog "comfortable" as it was put. However, get more competent staff that will do their jobs to keep owners notified of their pets conditions. I will never be back.

For more than 20 years we have been taking all our pets to Acworth and Lake City Animal Hospital. We've seen Dr. Carmichael through these years along with Dr. Daniel over the last year or so. Our experiences there have included everything from routine exams, serious illnesses, surgeries, boarding and even having to put several of our beloved pets to sleep over the years. We have always been extremely pleased with the care/services we have received there along with the personal communication, compassion and professionalism shown to us from the front desk, to the techs, to Dr. Carmichael and Dr. Daniel themselves.

Awesome clinic and Doctors. I have seen multiple of the doctors at the clinic and they are all fantastic. After every sick visit, I always receive a call the next day checking on my dog. Dr. Carmichael performed a knee surgery on my dog and he is one of the best surgeons in the state. I highly recommend Lake City.

Heidi Katz

My very small dog was attacked by a large breed. Dr Carmichael and his team saved her life. More than once these vets have saved the lives of my many beautiful pets. They are great!

Great people and great with your furry loved ones.

Lake City Animal Hospital and Resort has taken such great care of our 15 year young terrier-snowser over the years. Their kindness and concern makes you feel like family. Thank you, isn't enough to express our appreciation.

Jennifer Newkirk

I have used Lake City for the past 3 years but unfortunately I won't be going back. First, there are maybe 3 women at the front desk who aren't rude. Second, be prepared to stand at the desk for at least 20 minutes any time you go in. This includes pickup, and drop off. Third, they will do heartworm tests without asking and then charge you for the test.. This has happened twice and once I specifically asked them not to do the heartworm test and they did it anyway and charged me. Fourth, they recently hired a new groomer. I took my yorkie mix in for a groom and when my husband broght him home it looked like a 5 year old gave him a haircut. I called to discuss this and a supervisor offered to refund the cost of the groom, and have a different groomer try to fix it, free of charge at Acworth Animal Hospital. I agreed and took him with me on the way to my doctor appointment the next day. When I arrived they told me they would try to correct it but I would have to pay. I left with my dog, called Lake City and told them Acworth tried to charge me and all they did was apologize. Because I was expecting to leave him for the correction, I had no one to stay with him with while I went to the doctor so I had to call my husband to meet me in town to pick him up. I was 30 minutes late for my appointment because of Lake City. The doctors are good but it's just not worth the hassle dealing with the rest of their staff.

On January 27th 2014 my dog whelped 11 puppies. During the whelping process she retained 6 placentas. This could potentially be deadly. I spoke with my mentor and was recommended to immediately get a dose of Oxytocin in her, which is used for this issue, it causes the dog to have a contraction to push anything remaining inside her. I could not get in touch with my regular Dr. so around 3pm on the 27th I called Lake City Animal Hospital. I told the receptionist the situation and that I needed a shot of Oxytocin. I was told to come right in, no need for an appointment. So I rushed to the clinic with my girl. Once I arrived I filled out the necessary paperwork, and to my surprise the receptionist came out and told me that and I quote, "Umm We don't actually have Oxytocin" so they sent me back to speak with the Vet (Toby G. Carmichael, DVM) So He comes in the room and proceeds to tell me that my girl will be fine, and that Oxytocin is only used in Horses, it is no longer needed for Dogs. (NOT TRUE) He proceeded to tell me that he has over 21 years experience and that she will be just fine. Not to worry. So I left and took her home thinking that I was over reacting and that she would be fine. I was to follow up with my vet the next day. Well less than 8 hours later I wake and my girl cannot move, SHE WAS SO WEAK AND COULD BARELY LIFT HER HEAD. Sure enough she had develop Mertritis. (Metritis is the medical term used to describe inflammation of the uterus. This uterine disease is similar to pyometra but it has some differences. Unlike pyometra, metritis is most often a bacterial uterine infection that develops in the immediate post partum (after giving birth) period and occasionally after abortion or breeding. It is most often associated with retained fetuses or placentas. What to Watch For Fever Dehydration Depression Decreased appetite Vomiting Diarrhea Fast heart rate Vulvar discharge) She was so weak she was laying on 2 puppies and could not move, THEY WERE DEAD...AND I WAS ABOUT TO LOSE MY GIRL TOO. So I rushed her and 9 puppies to the ER on Tuesday Morning, spent every penny I had to get her stable then transferred her and 9 puppies to my Vet in Sandy Springs, where we ended up stuck there for 38 hours due to the Ice Storm. Every one is Doing well now. Just felt that people need to know about this incident before choosing to come to Lake City Animal Clinic

We are new to the area, and the way the catered to our dachshund Bella was amazing. Pure honesty, and very caring. They made our baby feel safe, and gave us peace of mind.

We have been seeing Dr. Carmichael and the other vets at Lake City Animal Hospital since April 2003. We continue to use them with our current pets. They are extremely professional and polite and we have encountered nothing but the best service. Last year when we lost our oldest dog, the staff was more accommodating, caring, and helpful than I would have ever expected and more so than I have heard from friends' vets. The constant communication regarding test results and labwork was exemplary. Just like human doctors, they are not miracle workers, but they do everything they can to care for our pets. Honestly, I feel the vets and staff at Lake City Animal Hospital offer better care and service than most general practitioners these days!

Taylor Sowders

Don't trust this place. Dr. Carmichael shows no remorse for putting your pet in pain, and causing its death. My poor family friend lost their healthy dog because of malpractice at this office!!!!

Sarah Miller

Chelsea the receptionist was very unprofessional and rude. My pet ran out and I called trying to find out if my pet was possibly brought in injured, and she would not take down my personal information to let me know and gave me such an attitude. Out of the 7 animal clinics that I called in the area, this was the only one that would not help me locate my pet. I'm appalled.

Over the past 11 years we have had reason (with 3 cats and 2 dogs) to visit Lake City Animal Hospital. Their services have always been reasonably priced, their staff courteous and helpful, and their physicians knowledgeable and willing to take the time to help us understand what's going on and how we can best help our loved ones.

Christine Shaw

My dog was left without water in a cage with a cone on his head all day. He was not able to drink without help. When I got him home, he was so lethargic and dehydrated and drank 2 bowls of water. They did an unauthorized Bordatella vaccination even though I told them NOT to ever give my dogs that vaccine again because it made BOTH my dogs so sick the first time they gave it to them. I took him in for an eye problem ONLY. They can't tell me what is wrong with my dog's eye and now I have to take him to the canaine ophthalmologist. My bill was $200.00 for today and my poor dog suffered without even a drink of water all day. They have gotten way too busy to care about how they treat the animals. It is all about $$$ at Lake City Animal Hospital!

We brought our 15 year old Siamese here after she became acutely ill. She stopped eating and steadily lost weight over two weeks. When it was time to put her to sleep Dr Haber examined her and gave us the options along with her recommendation. She reassured us we were making the best decision for our beloved cat and she passed away peacefully. Thank you.

Dr Carmichael and his staff are absolutely angels. He has helped my sweet Murphy girl so much! He took her on as a rescue/emergency pup and surgery back in March and just recently performed her second surgery for another injury sustained during her attack. He and his staff have been absolutely amazing! They have worked around my crazy schedule, they've never turned me away when I needed to bring her in, even when it was the end of the day. They are truly great people and I appreciate them all so much!!

Classic BAIT and SWITCH at this animal hospital. I read reviews before posting and Jennifer Newkirk's review was spot on with the service we received. Just wished we would have read these before my wife actually went in. My wife brought in a kitten off the street that had an eye infection. She was told that they would wave the office visit if they had to do anything to the kitten. They also offered free "things" if we brought her in to them such as free flea medication for the kitten. Once there they immediately took the kitten back. At this point the office visit hard started. My wife was then told that she would definitely owe for the visit and whoever told her they would wave it was wrong (bait and switch). The kitten still need to be seen but so far my wife and father in law did not like where this was heading. On to the eye exam. They looked at the kitten and said she/he is too young for any medication. They then TRIED to upsell her on eye drops that they previously stated she would not be able to use right now. Once she refused they started talking about irresponsible pet owners. Then it was onto "infectious diseases". They told my wife that the kitten needed a shot to fight against a disease they didn't even KNOW if it even had. They tried to sell her on the shot. Keep in mind they stated that the kitten was too young to receive ANY shots. Then when my wife called their bluff on the logic they started questioning whether or not she was a responsible pet owner (Remember this kitten came off the street). Everytime my wife refused (because things weren't adding up) they asked if she was really wanting to keep the kitten or just leave it with them (basically saying "lets see how bad you really want this kitten so we can see if we can upsell you some more while we can CLAIM we are just being responsible"). My wife didn't bite. Proud of her. She then paid the 50 dollar exam fee that they demanded which we were told would be waived initially over the phone. We felt we owed it because we didn't allow them to move forward with anything else (why would we?). At this point the girl started say things like "so are you just not going to get the kitten looked at?" My wife's response was "Yes but not by you." My father in law was there as well witnessing all of this. We took the kitten to another vet office at which point they stated that Lake City has a reputation. We didn't know that going in but we do now. Even more interesting was we called a third vet that we know very well, but are far away, to schedule updated shots for our dog (pretty irresponsible of us to get our dog her updated shots **heavy sarcasm**) and THEY even said they heard of Lake City having a reputation for this. This above situation is factual and really did happen. Whether it was a misunderstanding or not it is my opinion that people who love their animals avoid this place like the plague but please feel free to come to your own conclusions.

Janis Johnson

I wouldn't take my dog anywhere else. Dr. Carmichael is the best around and the staff is always friendly, professional and caring.

Charles Harrison

We never had a problem getting into the vet, but please never have your dog pass away on the weekend. If it’s after they close they’ll tell you to hold onto your deceased pet until Monday. I’ve never heard of such. Not what I’d expect while we’re greaving, and I’m not really sure how you would manage that with a 70+lb dog.

Jacob Ham

My dog had 2 major knee surgerys there. A week after I was told she had been cleared a golf ball size knot showed up. After taking her in for a xray was told multiple times I would be called to let know the next steps i should take. After 4 days of being told I would get a call back I never did. This is the worst place ive ever taken my dog. I do not recommend this place to anyone.

Lynn Meharg

The young, just out of school vet they hired because it's so busy there ,didn't diagnose a common problem with my dog, and he died. I totally blame them for it.

Alicia Murphy

Such a wonderful vet. Fair prices, great staff! Blown away by the care they provide. Highly recomened. They will be my new vet.

Rider Westerberg

Took my Golden retriever Rex here. He received great treatment.

Vs Kmp

Great care, great staff and some of the most talented physicians around. People come from out of state for care of difficult cases. It is also the place that many aspiring vets work and train for and during veteranary medical school, so it's like a teaching hospital for animals. Highly reccomended.

Melissa and Richard Jostworth

Quick, thorough and kind! Called an hour before closing because our sweet new rescue was bleeding. Staff was able to see her right away. Dr. Daniel was kind and gentle with Lani Kai. Charges were affordable, wonderful staff and excellent care ! Thankful we found a vet close to home and just what we were needing! Highly recommend!

Jennifer Thacker

It's busy, but the doctors are amazing, and the staff truly care!
