REVIEWS OF Bartow Animal Hospital IN Georgia

We had an emergency with our 6 mo old lab puppy, and had to take him to Bartow Animal Hospital instead of his regular vet. I have never seen an office take such extraordinary care of animals! It was quite an ordeal and they have done everything with excellence. The office/doctors have continually informed us of what was going on. Dr. J. Tripp and Dr. White have been especially outstanding, but all of the staff is phenomenal. Our puppy will continue as a patient here!

I called to make a grooming appointment. The phone rang several times and finally went straight to holding, no one even said hello or please hold. While holding someone would pick up the receiver and put it right back to holding, saying nothing!! After 10 minutes and 18 seconds. I hung up. This kind of thing has happened to me several times with this place. If you complain they usually say you called during a busy time. Never an apology. I’m done!!

The folks are all caring there, I like them. But like all the vets in this area. the prices are high. Yearly, routine shots for dogs costs $150.00. Where I lived previously - another state, same shots were $75.00.

This used to be the best vet in the City. Over the last couple of years, we have witnessed a considerable deterioration in the quality of care and a significant increase in cost. Took our sick puppy there last week. Nearly $200 later, nothing done, wife in tears and a thirty minute lecture on the puppy's weight. It might be noted that her diet, exercise and food were recommendations from the vets there. We have two dogs and both are on the same diet. Our older dog is healthy and has lost weight. The younger dog continues to go down hill. I suspect something much more serious and will seek a second opinion. Just hope it isn't too late. I guess the empty waiting room every time I am there should have been my first clue.

My husband and I brought our new puppy here today and were not very impressed. The people at the front desk were not helpful at all, we stood there for a minute before they even said anything to us. When we actually got into a room there were a few fleas on the table (our puppy has had a flea bath and hadn't even been on the table yet) When the vet came in he seemed to be rushed. He did not acknowledge the puppy at all. The only time he did was when he checked his temperature then we asked to check is teeth so we knew his age. We had some questions about parvo (we've had a previous case and are paranoid now) and he did not want to do any testing. Finally after explaining that it would ease my mind he did. But he took the puppy out of the room to do it, I didn't get him back for almost 10 mins. When we went to leave there were 2 girls at the front desk, one was on the phone, and the other was copying something off of the computer onto a piece of paper. We had never been to this place before so we weren't exactly sure where to pay or anything. Again we had to stand at the front for about 5 mins until finally I asked the one writing stuff down what we were supposed to do, she didn't even look at me when she answered me with "We're waiting on your charts". All in all we will not be back. I have to say, with all of that being said, the assistant who was with the vet was amazing! Too bad she wasn't the vet, she was very sweet and helpful to our puppy and us.

you pro gwin

This hospital made a treatment mistake that almost cost my dog it's life. It also cost me $1600.00 in treatment at another clinic and many additional other costs. This was my second bad experience with them. I should have learned the first time. I have been told by at least 4 other vets that this hospital made a big mistake.

Always have had an excellent experience with the vets and the staff: and this is what matters most to me. My dog is beyond delighted to return and very happy when she is there for boarding, and she has received great care when in surgery. The front office can be hectic and a little boggled at times, but overall they have things covered and are delivering solid service. The building is a bit unimpressive, but hey - I'm not living there, right? I've never had any issues or complaints. In comparison to my previous years at a major city vet in Atlanta, they do a very fine and equitable job. In addition, their rates are reasonable - though a touch high for boarding, but still fair - and there is always clarity in what the costs are.

These folks are great. They've been taking care of my four legged fur babies since 2007.

This has been my valued vet practice for 20 years. Dr. Potts is immeasurably revered in our family. Top notch vet, incredibly talented and up to date always. Cannot speak highly enough. He is warm, deeply cares about your pet, listens to his patients. Dr. Tripp is wonderful as well. Cannot go wrong with these 2 professionals.

I’ve been taking my dogs to this vet’s office for 10 years. They provide professional and caring service. When my dog recently passed away, they sent me a sympathy card. Shortly after losing my dog, I adopted a puppy from an animal shelter. This office provided a free rescue exam for my new dog. My dogs are like family, so I really appreciate the care and thoughtfulness of this establishment.

Our family pets have been going to this clinic for quite some time and when our beagle fell ill we felt it only made sense to bring her here. She had been vomiting for several days and was unable to eat, hold a meal down. We took her in and we were told that she had nerves that ran into her jaw that were severely irritated and the lump behind her ear was due to her battle with chronic ear infections. They sent us home with medications to treat that. The next day we saw no improvement and brought her back to the clinic. This time they suspected she might have cancer of the spleen and we left her in their care over night. They called us that afternoon and said they would be able to operate on her the following day. Our beagle is 11 + plus years old and we decided to get a second opinion and hold off on the surgery. Come to find out on a second opinion, she was suffering from cancer and had a weak heart. She was not operable and deemed terminally ill. If we had followed Dr. White's instructions our dog would have died a painful death in surgery. We were also told they are supposed to take a full X-ray before they can preform any surgery. My question is why did prepare to operate knowing she was terminally ill and her body was FILLED with cancer? Why did they have no sound answers and was she even properly taken care of the night we left them in their care. She went further down hill when had retrieved her for a second opinion. We have tried to contact them and have come in person and nobody has sound answers. Our dog had to be put down and we are left with the pain and questions. We do NOT recommend this vet clinic to ANYONE. Please check the reviews,we did not.

They are very reasonably priced and have taken incredible care of my pets over the years, even on some difficult assessments. I no longer live in Cartersville but still drive up from Vinings to bring by dog in.

Love this vet! They are friendly, helpful and love my animals!

Highly impressed with this place. I took my cat in as a drop off since I didn't have an appointment. They took her back almost immediately and was treated and back to me as quickly as she left. Thank you!

I have spent almost 300 dollars on vet bills from taking my kitten to this office. I took my kitten in for a check up and and they allowed him to come nose to nose with a kitten who had an upper respiratory infection. They never said anything about the other kitten being sick until I brought my kitten back in because he started getting sick. When I brought him back in they told me the kitten he came in contact with has an upper respiratory infection and that's probably how he got sick. So they put him on medication for 7 days ( and from info I got from another vet normal dose is 14 days of antibiotics) so my kitten has now been sick 2 and a half weeks so I took him back to them and the dr we saw said he did want to give him medication because ( he didn't want him to get use to the medicine) so I decided to get a second opinion from another vet office and was advised he has a fever and he is dehydrated and now 218 dollars later he is starting to get better. This vet office is the worst I've been to.

I'm surprised to see these negative reviews of Dr. Potts. I take my pet ferrets in to see him often and have never had a bad experience. He has done surgery on two of my boys and did a great job. The fees there are very resumable and fair. Yes the front office can be a little hectic but they are always very busy. I would highly recommend him to my ferret friends.

I've taken my dog and cat here and I have no complaints!

I would not recommend this vet. I was told that my 18 yr old cat needed to be monitored for the night. But low and behold they have no one there to do any monitoring. Yes folks no one there to monitor the sick animals. At least at home I could have watched her and taken her to an emergency Vet if needed. I had a friend take my cat in and would have never given permission to have her kept overnight. When I called to get her out I was told that I was not the owner cause i was not the person who checked her in. Was told that nothing could be done till the morning. Do yourself a huge favor and go somewhere they actually care about animals cause Bartow Animal Hospital clearly does not.

I took my ferrets in for the second time for a cough they were having which according to Dr. Potts is caused by stress. I was given some medication to take home for my ferrets cough, and when i went home to give the medication to my ferret i see something floating in the medication and with closer inspection it’s a insect or flea in it. I call them to let them know of the incident and the only thing i can do is bring it back in but i live over an hour away and do not have the time to take it back whenever i please. I am disappointed with the carelessness of whomever issued me the medication for my ferret and will be taking them elsewhere from now on, it is totally frustrating how they can be so careless to not double check the medication they are giving to one of your loved pets and give you such a careless attitude over the phone as if giving you contaminated medications for a sick pet isn't a cause of concern.

I took my dog there very sick!vet did blood work but not for a infection! Sent home with meds for throwing up! Ask for worm medicine for all works did get! Now my boy is in the hospital very sick this vet should be ashamed! He treats to many animals! He don't care about them! Greedy for money! I spent over $200.00 now my vet bill is $1000.00! Please be careful

Been taking my Dog to this office for a few months for grooming which hasn't been an issue until this last visit. Brought in my dog for a grooming before the wife and I went on vacation, noticed a few abrasions on his ears before we left but figured that they would simply go away on their own and didn't look bad enough to cause an issue over. However one week later we're back from vacation and the dog has been bothering his ears and now has serious scabs and pus, clearly and ear infection which I assume to be from the cuts after grooming. I call and set an appt with Dr. POTTS to look at my pup and explain to the front desk that I'm willing to pay for the medication but figured I shouldn't have to pay the $50 exam fee due to the cause being from that very office. Unfortunately I work extensively so I had to send my wife in for the appt while I was at work and my wife was in tears due to Dr. POTTS being a complete jerk and acting demeaning to her because she asked about the fee. I WILL NEVER GO HERE AGAIN. I strongly caution that you consider several other nearby options before coming here, ESPECIALLY if your visit is with Dr. POTTS as he is unkind and clearly unafraid of intimidating woman. My only hope here is that they cared enough to prescribe me the right medication for my poor puppy and that he gets better in a few days, otherwise I wasted $90 and will have to spend more to take him to another (more reputable) vet down the road.

I reviewed their website and found discrepancies. It states more than once that caring, responsive and compassion is given to patients and families. Really? Monday I placed an emergency call (following 2 appts) in to Dr Potts. He was at lunch. I left a msg and was told he would call back. Long story short? I buried my cat Thursday. Never got a call. Edit: tried to leave a review at their website, but only 5 star reviews are posted. *** 1st appt I took Gabby in. She's not eating or drinking, acting lethargic. 10 yrs old, but always been indoors. Many years left. He did a blood panel and we went over each, ALL WITHIN NORMAL LEVELS. Gave her meds for an upset stomach and antidepressant. $170+. Says if that doesnt work, the next step is xrays and barium to check for blockages. ****3-4 days later I took her back because meds did nothing and shes worse. I panic when I realize how long its been since drinking. They agree to hydrate, and do the xray and barium, they kept her. I called the next day. No change, giving meds to make her hungry and going to do those tests. Kept her. Heard nothing and called the next day. No change, we are going to run those tests. I remind you said that yesterday, I was calling for results! Another day...no tests. Now Im showing anger, want to speak to Dr. Potts. He will call me back. ***5 minutes later my phone rings. Same tech, and a miracle happened!!! I walked in to check something and she's eating!! And drinking!! I ask for clarification. A few kibbles? Or woke up w hearty appetite? I'm assured an impressive amount and can go home today. ***$179 that covered boarding, follow up physical, rabies shot and a steroid shot. If they hadnt wasted days on boarding, steroids et al...I could have paid cash (now $350 in for less than 2 weeks) for barium and xrays. I think they assumed otherwise. ****I take her home and its clear before evening she was not better. Still lethargic, no food or water. I had been given pills to try to make her hungry. What they did was make her nauseaus and swollen. Im thinking definite blockage. Monday morning called Dr Potts. No response. Called back and asked if I could at least get her pain meds until he will speak to me? She consulted him and he was kind enough to allow her less pain. **** by day 2 and going into 3, I knew we were too late for any tests now. Her pain meds were not enough and it was time to end her misery. I was angry enough that I didnt want the ones responsible (imo, although I should have gone elsewhere) to do it...but she passed 30 minutes before they opened. ****So thank you Dr Potts for essentually killing my cat. By the end of our 1st appt, I felt a shift and knew I'd rubbed you the wrong way. From that moment on, not only could I not contact you, but you allowed your patient of 10 yrs (I inhereted her, but she had always gone there) THAT HAD PERFECT LABS A WEEK PRIOR, to pass in horrific pain. The pain did make her kind of less lethargic. It made her sit in one position, facing the wall for hours at a time. I didnt know how to handle beyond trying to get you. So I suppose I learned what I needed to. Hopefully I can help others understand...GO SOMEWHERE ELSE IMMEDIATELY AT YOUR FIRST TWINGE OF DOUBT!!

I don't reccomend this place. 1st off, they'll charge you an arm and a leg. My dog only needed a rabies shot & they wanted an extra 49$ if I went back there with her as she got the shot. That's just insane! Makes me feel like I can't trust them. 2nd, the vet tech or whoever came out to get my Chihuahua to take her back for her Rabies shot tried putting a slip leash on her when she already had her harness and leash on. You should not use a slip leash on a chi. Their necks are fragile. My dog was scared and wouldnt walk with her. I picked her up and told her she could carry my dog. I would think this lady should know better working in a vet's office. It didn't make any sense to put a slip leash on her with a leash already on her. I wont be coming back. I now feel like I cant trust them.

I have been taking my dogs to this vet for over 15 years. They do a great job! Expert care from a knowledgeable staff. I moved to Adairsville a few years ago and even though there are other vets closer. I still go to them and won't even consider taking my dogs anywhere else!

Steve Mcvaigh

we have taken 3 dog there and they come home in a box. they over doest the dogs and then they past away in the night. i will never take a dog there again im sorry there not very good place to take a dog to
