They are amazing with my dogs. The staff & Dr's are always doing the best that they can to work in a last minute appointment when needed. There's always a check up phone call after my babies have had an appointment. I have been going here for a long time now. I currently have three dogs and would not allow anyone else to touch them. It was OK I went because they could get me in the same day but I haven’t exactly been back either I prefer Moultrie Animal Clinic it’s just down the road and the doctor there is amazing and they seem to keep their staff they’ve had the same hiring sign outside Matanzas for like the last three years

Made the switch to Matanzas this spring, and have been very happy with the services! Dr. Lopez is awesome. Appreciate the good communication and responsiveness, and prices are reasonable. They're really good with cats, especially weird/unusual conditions or ailments. We actually came here because we had a voucher to get our wild kitten fixed, and just really enjoyed the experience. Highly recommend this hospital!

Excellent care here. When puppers get sick, all anyone wants is for them to get better. I found this vet based on recommendations I requested from every pet owner I came across for about 3 weeks. My pup Bella, pictured here having acquired target known as squirrel and awaiting fur missile release, had been sick for some time. My previous vet had done all sorts of tests, and prescribed various different medicines. None of them had any effect, nor could they give me a diagnosis. I spent a mountain of money to be told that they didn't know what else to do, and to take her elsewhere. So that's what I did. Enter Matanzas River Animal hospital. I really can't say enough good things about these people. I had a clear diagnosis- day one. Actual answers that made sense. A treatment plan which proved to be successful, and a healthy and happy dog. These people called my previous vet, had records transferred, reviewed test findings, performed additional tests, and at the end of it gave me answers, and a bill that was a fraction of the cost of the previous vet. Good diagnostic work saved my dog. Thanks everyone.

Great place, was a regular client there a long time ago but I've moved 40 min. away so too far now. I had an issue with my grandma's dog at another vet's office and called Matanzas to see if they could see him that morning. Even though they were very busy and he was not a current patient they told me to bring him right away, did his exam while I held him in in the hallway since no exam room was available and gave him treatment. That just shows how much they care and made the time they didn't really have to help this sick dog. Plus Dr. Nichols correctly diagnosed him that the other vet completely missed. It's not a fancy place like these new ones are but they do it right and focus on what's important.

Dr. Nicholas took care of our cats for many years and I never walked away from the clinic with anything but a positive feeling toward Dr. Nicholas and the staff. When our last cat had to be helped with crossing over due to an automobile incident, Dr. Nicholas showed compassion toward our cat and us. She was in a lot of pain and Dr. Nicholas made her comfortable allowing time for my husband to get there so we say our final farewell together. After over a year, we have just taken in a new kitten and Dr. Nicholas will be providing veterinary care.

They treat you and your pet out of sheer pity and as if you are a nuisance if you come with a wags and whiskers certificate. People that use these certificates are not less than humans and shouldn't be treated as such. They absolutely should not be told that there pets surgery will get pushed back while " other patients that pay to keep the lights on" get seen first. (Direct quote from Dr Lopez I'm two separate occasions) This last time I didn't feel comfortable leaving my kitte. Behind because she would be left to fast forever until her surgery. Maybe they are good at what they do but they are very rude and nasty people that are very short tempered. I've worked in the hospitality business forever and never in a million years would I have Dr Lopez deal with anyone. She is very confrontational and has no bedside manners. I guess maybe if I didn't have a voucher I'd be treated without prejudice. I don't see how any an organization like wags and whiskers would ever associate themselves with such an inhospitable business.

I just wish I had gone to a different vet ..It was close, my puppy needed attention asap they were the only one available at the hour I made the worst possible choice ever I was told to come get my puppy she's in recovery .only to go watch her die on there floor.most heart wrenching thing I had to witness in my life.i just hope my baby forgives me for making an awful choice that killed her.had the vet been more experienced fudgie would be with us today.rip baby girl..

Best. Vet. Ever. In the 2.5 years I have lived in St. Augustine, we have dealt only with Matanzas River Animal Clinic. We have a 12-year old Papillon named Lilly. They got her all up to date when we moved here from Colorado, and I had just retired, so didn't have a lot of money. They were very reasonable in their pricing and even when I shopped around for the medicines dogs need here in the south, their prices were comparable, PLUS they always make sure that I get any rebates that are being offered when they buy in quantity. Dr. Lopez is obviously an animal lover and you can see that she has a hard time separating herself from the emotion of pain some of her patients (Human and animal) are experiencing. Lilly needed to have a bunch of teeth removed, and Dr. Lopez and staff followed up for the next couple of weeks to make sure she was "bouncing back" okay. Dr. Nicholas discovered a tumor of some kind growing in Lilly's cheek. It was abscessed and he did the surgery immediately to remove it. He used special stitches that would dissolve and made sure they wouldn't be poking her gums while the area healed. He followed up with a concern about dehydration and had us bring her in for a subcutaneous injection of fluid since she wasn't drinking due to the pain. This is the level of care I expect for my family, and I would highly recommend the clinic to anyone as a caring, loving, and sincere animal-focused facility.

Dr Lopez has taken care of my cat and 2 dogs for over 2 years, Plus I use there grooming. My cat had to have surgery on her paws and my 2 1/2 yr old dog was neutered. It was a great experience for the situation. Their prices are very reasonable. Its nice that you are remembered and can have good laugh bc its more like family. They truly care about your animals
