The best in Florida.

AVS has been and continues to be a wonderful place to take our dog Maxie. In 2017, the doctors were able to detect mitral valve disease early, and diligently placed her on medication. Almost two and half years later, it has been working tremendously with positive results. These results prove that proper care by AVS with the prescriptions they provided can truly help improve the quality and longevity of your pet’s life. We will continue to bring Maxie there to see their friendly and helpful staff anytime:)

We've had the opportunity to utilize this facility twice for our rescued pup and each time they gave us exceptional attention and service truly caring sending us updated texts and calls.

Shirley Lynch

My dog needed a big surgery on her leg. My vet. Recommended I take her here. They did a good job she has 1 more visit. They are expensive. If she is fine after this it will be worth it.

Amy Watts

They take great care of your fur babies. You can rest assured that you are taking your loved one to the best clinic in the area.

Jan Young

Being a pet patient at AVS is equal to a very academic human medical/surgical facility..or better. The staff is friendly, efficient, knowledgeable and empathetic. Vets are very experienced as well as excellent surgeons. Miley had repairs of 2 CCL ruptures of her back legs in 6 weeks. Support and compassion was fantastic. We did some physicial therapy to enhance strengthening of the one leg. The comprehensive evaluation to plan her treatment involved many modalities in one visit. Although we never plan on our pets needing this type of care, it is comforting to know this level of care is available to our furkids. Thank you to AVS for the excellent care and compassion!

Extremely knowledgeable. Bit pricey.

Hello All, We took our baby Silver to this hospital as it was recommended to be the best and to have all equipment necessary to perform emergency surgery. If they weren't the best they most definitely charge like they are the best. It was a normal day Monday for our cats. Silver was a very active and seemingly healthy cat. The only issues we noticed was on Monday at night he didn't eat and seemed to want to be alone. He was a jumper and climber every other day he was on top of the fridge and cabinets. We woke up on Tuesday to find him in the bathroom not breathing well and he seemed to be hurt on one side. We rushed him to this vet and were told the prognosis wasn't good. Which was obvious or he wouldn't have been there. I was praying they would find a bruise or fractured rib something to explain a fall as I had suspected, but something treatable. Instead we are told he has Congestive Heart Failure, explainable only by x-ray of fluid in lungs, which we already knew because we could hear it and an EKG that supposedly showed he had a slightly enlarged heart, but when ask to see the EKG it was never shown to us just the x-ray of the heart so who knows what they really did. He passed away at age 1yr 8months due to euthanasia. What is most upsetting is that when I wanted to take him home I was made to feel like the bad guy. The only help they could offer was 1200 a day oxygen therapy and that "he would have to heal himself." You can go online and find and buy your own ICU cage for medium sized animals and a oxygen concentrator for 1200 that can achieve the same.... Its insane. All I can say is I am a Software Engineer who also makes a lot of money analyzing and finding solutions to major problems. I feel that this place failed me and wanted 5000 to give my cat back to me alive. To all that read this let it be a lesson that doctors and vets are not gods they cannot perform magic I know that you all know this but remember that the body is strong and usually does most of the healing. I believe if I had taken my cat home and shipped the equipment over night I could have saved him. I wish if I had known what I know and was calmer in the moment I would have taken him to another vet that was cheaper to keep him on oxygen until mine arrived. I wish the people here had suggested a cheaper vet to do the oxygen.... They didn't they didn't care because they didn't know him. They "tried their best" as in they did their daily job. So thank you for my bill and dead cat I hope we all made the right choice, because if we didn't it would be very unfair to the animal. Humans are animals too none of you would like to be put down for something that could be solved.

AVS KILLED MY GOLDEN RETRIVER I WAS GIVEN PREDNISONA AND ACETAMINOFENAND THEY POISONED MY DOGS BLOOD CAUSING KIDNEY FAILURE AND DEATH

Kimberly Walston

We went to AVS to get a second opinion for our beautiful 12 year old mastiff, Goliath. They had all the technology to provide further testing, but rather than doing so unnecessarily, they examined him and the data already collected, and were incredibly kind, honest, and empathetic with us about his grave condition. Everyone, from the front staff, to the techs, to the doctor, were so very kind and sincere, providing privacy and dignity for a very difficult and heartbreaking decision and last act of love to end his suffering. My husband and I were so appreciative of the level of class, heart, and respect we encountered throughout the visit, unfortunately so rare these days. Thank you all, from the bottom of our hearts, for making a difficult situation as smooth as possible. ...and thank you to Florida Wild Veterinary hospital in DeLand for referring us to AVS in Maitland when they were not able to accommodate us in a timely fashion due to extenuating circumstances.❤️

We are so grateful for the care, compassion, and expertise of Dr. Bolfer and the staff at AVS. We brought our Doberman, Harley, here as an emergency from our local vet. He was in an emergent state from CHF and A-Fib, but we didn't know. Dr. Bolfer and the staff quickly assessed, diagnosed, and began treating him. We are very grateful to have a cardiologist here and one who actually worked with over 500 Dobermans during his training. We have had to come to AVS 3 times this past month for treatment and follow up, and each time Shirley, the Vet Tech, and Dr. Bolfer are very patient with all of our questions and provide our Harley wonderful care. Thank you!

Thomas Blair

They fixed our dog!

Laurie Serrao

A big thank you to Dr. Frazier and all supporting staff for helping my beautiful lab get stabilized. The knowledge of the entire Veterinary staff is amazing and it is nice to know they are right there when we need them! Thank you for choosing to specialized and help all our very loved fur babies! I am thankful for each of you!

Lawrence Hufty

The most incredible advanced care veternary hospital I have ever experienced. True professionals, kind, gentle, and you know that that love their jobs and the animals they try to save.

Robert Remak

Came here with my dog a few months ago when he needed a surgery to remove a tumor in his liver. Started off with the Internal Medicine staff and went to the Surgery staff. Every step of the way I was well informed and my dog was taken care of. Even when I was quoted the full range on price, the billing actually came in on the VERY low end, which I was extremely happy about. My dog is small but still it was a relief. I would definitely recommend them for any surgery related issues with your little fur babies.

Joel Hutton

We were running late due to another medical issue that ran way over and they still worked us in an did the full workup on our Lexi .This is specialty clinic I recommend for anything more than basic care. My local Vet kinda let me down on this issue.

Harold Petch

Excellent Specialty Veteranian services

Amy D

I brought my dog here for an ultrasound, my vet needed another exam to see what was causing my dogs issues. I called ahead to get him an appointment. They told me the price, which is very expensive. But if this visit was an emergency there was an added $300 fee to see him that day or the next. The vet decided that I could wait for an appointment. The staff was very nice. My only reason for a 2 Star is that I truly believe they are way over priced. I understand that it’s a specialist but my own vet doesn’t charge $145.00 for a basic exam. Then the cost for the actual test I needed done. Thank goodness my dog will be ok, but the prescriptions they also want him on were over priced too. I got one through Publix for $6 they wanted $20 the other through Petsrx for $43 they wanted $80. Same prescriptions not generics. We all love our pets and want the best for them, but I really feel that they are making too much profit off our need for their care.

Pat Ryan

Excellent services but very very expensive. Took rescue dog there and rescue discount was only 10% but still expensive and procedures recommended were very expensive. Waiting to go to Vet School for another opinion

Michael Hense

All the staff is great with the patients who visit with health concerns.

My elderly neighbor's little Chihuahua had torn acl and they were so very sweet to her and her surgery went fantastic! I recommend them!

My Australian Shepherd, Lacey, caught a virus that attacked her liver about 2 years ago. We almost lost her. The doctors at AVS were wonderful and saved my baby. Dr. Olsen and her team have been working with us for 2 years and were wonderful, patient, and kind. Around Memorial Day of this year, Lacey suffered a relapse. They were not able to save her this time and we had to put her down on June 2. The staff did everything they could. I can't thank them enough for taking such good care of my baby. After her death, I received a card with handwritten notes from the doctors and the staff that were so sweet, it makes me cry everytime I think of their kind words. Thank you so much AVS. I would highly recommend them to anyone.

John Tsesmelis

Dr Bolfer and staff make you feel comfortable the moment you walk in. Dr Bolfer takes the time during consult to explain everything and answer any and every question we had. He literally saved my dogs life Thanks

Kathy Giangrande

My Maltese, Chino, was evaluated and diagnosed by Dr. Bolfer. He spent a significant amount of time with me explaining the results and treatment recommendations. It was apparent that he had also taken time to review Chino’s medical record and was able to give recommendations concerning medication Chino had been placed on by his general veterinarian, based on his expertise as a cardiologist. He was able to give me very specific information concerning his heart condition as well as a problem he was having with his lungs. I also appreciate that I was given a very detailed written report concerning the results of his visit.

Steve In Orlando

These people could care less about your fur babies. Our baby was sent there as an emergency to get an ultrasound and the first thing out of their mouths is “we’ll need a $500 deposit, how do you wish to pay?” Then the doctor came in with the less than desirable diagnosis with not one ounce of compassion. Again, it was all about the charges we have in addition to the initial $500 deposit. How do you people sleep at night?

Gayle Moore

They have kept my beautiful maltose Mandi alive with cytosine treatments for years. We would not have had her all this time. They are great!!!

Ellen R

I cannot say enough good things about this hospital and staff! I called to get cost and info regarding surgery for our 12 year old dog, Gabby, who had developed a life threatening condition call Laryngeal Paralysis and needed tie back surgery asap to open her airway. I called on Friday and spoke with Emily who was so patient, professional and kind in outlining the process, answering all my questions and concerns, etc. She scheduled us for consult and, as long as all testing went well, same day surgery for Gabby with Dr. Quina on Wed. morning. Dr. Quina was the surgeon who would perform this specialized procedure and she was wonderful! She sat with us and explained everything to us in great detail and spent all the time necessary to make us feel comfortable about Gabby's surgery and the expectations afterwards. The surgery went well, Dr. Quina kept us informed via phone when Gabby was out of surgery and how she was doing, as she had promised beforehand Our girl is doing great! She is her happy self again. Dr. Quina, Emily, April ,this hospital and staff gave her back to us! And for that we will always be be so very grateful. Thank you for what you do at AVS and how you care for our fur babies.

D B

Dr Bolfer , the Cardiologist, let me know my dog did not have a heart condition and spent time telling me what is needed to help my dog. They are great here diagnosing so many pet issues.

Russell Sanderlin

Excellent vet techs with good hearts helping pets ❤️

Joe K4JGA

Great veterinarian hospital. Staff very attentive to your needs and emotion regarding your pet need. Highly recommended.

Nicole Gauzens

My dog needed emergency same-day tumor surgery. Even though the surgery had a very low survival chance, the surgical team at AVS got him through it successfully. They kept a very close eye on him, and they called us constantly through diagnosis, surgery and recovery to keep us updated. Once he got home, they continued to check in to see how his recovery was going. He still has cancer, and we know we will lose him soon, but we also know he is in the best hands possible with the AVS oncology team.

Noelle Ogden

We and our pets have always been treated with care and respect each time we have had to come to AVF for specialized care. Let's face it, nobody wants to have to come here because it means their baby is so very sick. They are the best though, and they take such amazing care of the animals that come through their door. I'm grateful for each time we have needed them, but always hope that we don't.

Erik Chang

Helpful and friendly and very good with pets

Kelley Richardson

Very skilled staff that provides compassionate and comprehensive care.

Vanessa Cabrera

The office was very clean and the staff very professional. I was lucky enough to get same day emergency spleenectomy surgery on my dog and a thorough explanation of what to expect by Dr. K. The updates were detailed and suggested treatments were tailored to my dog's need. Thank you for your wonderful work and saving my dog's life.

Jen Steiner

Brought my dog Beesly to the neurology department without an appointment due to emergency circumstances. They worked us in and provided immediate care (including MRI and surgery) that quickly had her back to her old self. Dr. Knight and the rest of the staff took excellent care of our furry kiddo and I couldn't be more grateful.

Sarah Frantz

Great place. Hopefully your pet never needs them. Both of my boys have been here. And both of them are doing great. Thank you so much AVS for helping my guys out. Would definitely recommend.

Joseph Mitchell

No doubt AVS saved my dog's life.

Karen Drew

Very nice people. Helpful and knowledgeable. Doctors are all very caring about your pet.

Luis Rivera Machín

Very nice and well trained staff! Had to take my cat to get an ultrasound after a dog attack, she even stayed overnight, and they took really good care of her! I don't know if the price is competitive, but the service is excellent!

Martha Boon

Love their great service..

Very professional but warm and approachable oncologist, Dr Goodson for our dear Havanese Ripley, our 16 yr old senior citizen. Staff is efficient and friendly. We feel very lucky, they were able to give a quick first visit with next day staging visit. We are so thankful.... Chris and Maury

After being referred to AVS by our regular vet, we were very very satisfied with the attention and care by Dr. Bolfer and the team. Our 13yr old boxer has developed a heart condition and is in the process of treatment so we can give him a great rest of life. Dr Bolfer not only explained everything that was going on, but gave us some options that are possible. After our visit, he contacted us to see how things were going and progressing, our boy was once told that he might not make it overnight to doing great for 3 weeks now following the consult. We are going for a follow up and hope we get good news but i can’t thank the team enough for the help and assistance through this. They have definitely made this easier for the family and Diesel (my boxer)

The staff at Affiliated Veterinary Specialist in Maitland are AMAZING!!! They are super caring and attentive. My dog loves the staff and the attention they give her. I would also recommend Dr. Goodson if you are in need of an oncologist. She is very informative and understanding.

I took my cat, Sadie, here, after my vet recommended this place, thinking that she had heart disease. She was 9 and I'd had her since she was a kitten. Long story short, she was dehydrated, lethargic, not eating, and I dropped her off on a Thursday, assuming that she'd be coming home that night. Got there around 5 to pick her up and the vet (Dr. Wolff) called me to say that they'd need to hospitalize her for at least 2 days, and came back with an estimate, where the high dollar was over $3,000. I basically said to him, "we either do this, or she dies," to which his response was yes. So, being that she was my baby, of course I agreed. Over the next 2 days, I got calls from him and another vet, who her 2nd caregiver, with updates. They disagreed with my original vet, didn't see any heart disease, THEN it was her kidneys, THEN there was fluid around the heart, THEN they overhydrated her, which caused them to have to give her something to reverse that, EVERYTHING WAS JUST SEEMING TO BE A GUESS AND INCONCLUSIVE. Got a call Friday, was told to buy an inhaler and went to pick her up that Saturday, but she still hadn't been eating, and in the end, they said she had FELINE ASTHMA! After all that, and over $3,000, feline asthma--that's it. When I was checking out, I told the desk that I wanted to put my purse in my car and would be back to get her, but the vet tech actually brought her in her carrier out to me, along with her meds, which they really gave me NO instructions on, just handed me her and the bag. Get her home, and she seemed to want to just put her head resting on her water bowl--I googled that and read that it was a sign of DEHYDRATION in cats--WHAT? Also, on the instruction sheet that was with the meds, they listed her prognosis as "grave." GRAVE? For asthma? By that Monday, she was still lethargic, not eating or drinking, I called AVS, got a call back and was told to bring her in for blood work--as if that would happen. The next day, took her to a friend's vet (to which I thank God for Dr. Yaicha Peters), they told me she had pneumonia (can you develop pneumonia in THREE DAYS?), did some blood work, and her levels were too far gone for us to try to save her, so I had to let her go. I've read glowing reviews of AVS, but I would NEVER take another of my babies here. They charged an arm an a leg, and I felt like my cat was some mere "experiment" for them, and no one cared about really finding out what was wrong with her. I mean, this is NOT your average vet, it's an advanced, specialized medical hospital, or what was I missing here? I literally created a Google account to write this review, as I feel strongly about sharing my story, and rarely even write reviews. I'm sure they will write some sort of rebuttal, with all kinds of medical explanations, excuses, "we're sorry for your loss," etc., but be warned. Should something like this ever happen again, I will get a second opinion. I will never forgive myself for not going this extra mile and maybe saving her life. I will forever love her and only pray that she forgives me for putting her through all this agony and fear in her last days. I was her person, and supposed to protect and take care of her and feel that I failed in doing that. RIP Sadie Roo Roo, Mama will love you always.

My cat was born with congenital heart issues, and underwent intensive heart surgery when she was just 6 months old. My family and I thought that after receiving news of a successful surgery that all of our cat’s problems were a thing of the past. At 3 years old, we brought her into the emergency vet 4 weeks ago because our kitty was limping and panting. She was diagnosed with Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy and an arterial thromboembolism- a clot that had formed in her heart had broken off and a piece had gotten logged in her leg. Gabby, our once very active and curious young cat, had become immobile, anxious, and was experiencing tremendous discomfort. When taken into consideration our cat’s prior medical history and the current diagnosis, it was looking like a 50/50 chance of her making it through the night let alone living the long and healthy life she deserved. The cardiologist at AVS, Dr. Luiz Bolfer, heard my pleas to save my baby and Gabby was put on a regimen of controlled motion exercises for her leg, Plavix and Aspirin to keep the clot from getting worse, and pain medication to ease the discomfort from the clot. Within just a couple weeks, she back to being herself and as curious as ever! No matter where you choose to bring your animal to receive care, I want you to consider your options. Up until recently most vets would have euthanized our cat because that was considered to be the most humane option for everyone involved. Blood clots and congenital heart disease DOES NOT have to equal a death sentence, veterinarians are finding treatment options that can increase quality of life and give the much needed gift of time with your beloved furry family members.

I have had many dogs over the years and some have had emergency health issues, from genetic disorders to Parvo to the standard abscess. Until now, I have yet been to a clinic that estimates your total bill BEFORE they've even looked at the animal. While the doctors seem competent and I appreciate the quality of care, it’s clear this clinic is over-priced. Comparing AVS to other vet services and costs, on my most recent visit I paid $100 more for routine x-rays and more than $400 for a single generic medication, which is double what I would have paid elsewhere for the brand-named RX. Breaking down the total costs for the almost $5,000 I paid to treat my dog's illness, it was clear that "work" was done to pad my bill to fit the original estimate. There were duplicate tests run that had already been done the day I was referred to AVS and other procedures that were over-priced and unnecessary. Mind you, she was hospitalized a single night. My recent experience reeked of commission-based work. I am hoping AVS vets are paid on the quality of their work and not the quantity of their billings. If you have the opportunity and are not in crisis mode, get a second opinion rather than being the subject of highway robbery. AVS takes advantage of good people's love for their pets. I would recommend using the small animal clinic at the University of Florida instead.

Took my Pitt for Chemo treatments and they are very helpful. I have peace of mind that they are doing everything they can to help my dog during this difficult time. I have been taking my dog here for a couple months and so far no complains. Super helpful and friendly staff! Thanks so much for everything you guys have done!

Surgery unit visit to eval torn CCL in our miniture poodle. Office visit was $145.00. Surgery sheduled for 7/9. One overnite, est cost $2300 to 2500. The staff is probably best in this area and cost is what it is when a pet needs care. We have used this facility with other pets and care is exceptional.

Kathy Decker

Not the first time I've had to use them but thankful they are there! True hospital care for ur pet....expensive like all hospitals, but necessary evil.

Nancy Henderickx

I would like to thank Dr.Hernandez and the other staff members that attended our dog Roxy. They respected the time we needed to make the right decision and allowed us all the time we needed with our beloved pet before having to let her go .

Teresa Cauthern

Such a wonderful place...and wonderful staff and doctor's. I appreciate everything that has been done for family

Deborah Aurisano

My bandit was brought I. For a rumor that busted last year staff and surgeon were excellent. He had a problem last night brought him i. Today and they r wonderful just my opinion. They r honest yes expensive but this is where most vets send you.

Sherri Bunye

Both of my 13 1/2 furbabbies are seen at AVS. Great staff and vets. Totally trust them to inform us of our dogs health and options to ensure the best quality of their lives.

Barbara Alesandro

Our Primary Vet. sent my Corgi, Reggie, to AVS to diagnose his symptoms. We went to the Waterford Lakes facility in November 2018. I want to send out a heartfelt thank you to Dr. Lampton, Dr. McGovern and Vet. Tech. Nicole for their medical perseverance and knowledge to bring Reggie to a medical normal diagnosis on July 30th, 2019. He is not out of the woods, but with his continued medication and follow-up exams he is on the mend. I want to thank all who took part in his care, both at the Waterford Lakes location and the Maitland location. We visited both facilities numerous times for excellent care from Nov. to present, July 30th. Words cannot convey how happy I am with Reggie's results. I have my 12 year old Corgi back!!! Thank you, Barbara A. and Reggie

I made an appointment to get an Echocardiogram for my West Highland White Terrier, Bella. She is the love of Mine & My Husband's life!

Nicole Cavaliere

Our 1 year old pup was unfortunately diagnosed with renal dysplasia. Dr. Wolff has provided exceptional care and has been very patient with our questions. He is extremely knowledgeable in his arena and truly orders what is necessary for your pet. My boyfriend and I are both in health care (nurse practitioner and nurse anesthesia), and we feel confident and at ease going here to get the best care we can for our pup! It has taken a lot of anxiety off of our chests knowing he is in the best hands possible for his condition.

Quiomara M

They were honest about my dogs condition and didnt try to pressure me to make any decisions. After my dog passed they sent me a sympathy card reassuring me that I made the right decision for my fur baby. Thank you guys so much for your understanding and patience during the hardest day of my life. Thank you for giving me peace that I did the right thing by Remy. Thank you for helping him pass in dignity and peacefully.

LL L

Courteous staff, knowledgeable vet specialists...for when your animal needs a little extra care and knowledge.

Jose Lefran

If your pet has any complex disease or surgery this is the place to go. Our dog Nolan, a 3 lb 7 year old Maltese-poodle sustained a fracture of his left front leg 3 years ago that was mismanaged at another clinic and almost lost his leg, he underwent surgery requiring a surgical plate and bone graft by Dr Tano and he is now running around without any residual problems. Recently he was evaluated by Dr Wolff for elevated liver enzymes and on the same day he was diagnosed with portal venous hypoplasia and the right treatment instituted. They were kind and tentative and no unneeded tests were performed. I highly recommend AVS

Ellisa Lugo

#AVS #affiliatedveterinaryspecialists #DrFrazho #DrPanissidi #Staff Thank you for taking care of our boy, Spanky. The devastation and sadness we felt after hearing the diagnosis of cancer left us feeling helpless and hopeless. When you called that Thursday, I honestly didn't think we would see him alive

nathan cox

Very professional in all respects. Helped heal my dog's turn ACL

Christine Gerardi

It’s been almost a month since my sweet English bulldog Lola passed. I took her to my vet and I made an appt with AVS the following day. I was up all night with her and showed up at 7am when they opened. They took her right back and quickly did tests that concluded with me putting her to sleep. It was beyond heart wrenching but I am forever grateful to everyone there as they showed so much kindness and compassion to her and me as I struggled with my decision. I was a complete wreck but they were so patient, I cannot say enough to convey my gratitude to the entire staff and dr who took care of her.

Danielle Figueroa

My baby boy, Shadow got diagnosed with bladder stones and his emergency vet referred me to take him to this place, AVS. I immediately took him in without any regrets! They immediately took him in and had another physical exam with their vet. I had to wait for about 30 minutes and they led me in a consultation room and I spoke to two amazing doctors. They recommended that Shadow needed a bladder surgery right away. I told them to do whatever they can with Shadow because he’s my world. I actually cried after I was informed and they promised me to keep me informed. They kept their word and called my husband that night and the morning after. I called them maybe twice today and they said Shadow is doing fabulous! I’m so thankful for the doctors and the staff at AVS. You saved my dog’s life. Thank you!

Courtney Lebron

Very quick and professional. My cat had his FHO surgery there and they did a great job.

Alex Katsaros

I am very thankful that I came to AVS. My dog has a rare heart condition which my general Vet was unable to treat. Dr. Bolfer was absolutely amazing in providing help and care for my furry friend, and he also generously gave his time to explain everything to me (even used a model of the heart) to make sure I understood how to provide proper care at home. Now we are managing the heart condition and Dr. Bolfer definitely restored the quality of life back to my dog — truly saved her life! I highly recommend Dr. Bolfer and the cardiology team at AVS.

Jess S

Can't rave about this place enough. Our dog had to have surgery with their neuro department. The team of doctors and staff were fantastic. The care and compassion beyond measure. I wouldn't take my dogs any place else.

shartekqua pierce

I honestly dont know where to begin. I too feel the importance of it all was about the money than the pet. I was pressured to make that first payment towards my babys account. I brought her in there because she had diarrhea and was vomiting. They told me that she had some kind of disease and that her kidneys was failing and that she wasnt worth keeping alive. So my husband and I put her down that following morning. I didnt see any proof as to what was done to my baby so who knows what truly was done or not. I dont know but it truly felt only like a horrible money transaction. They talked me into putting my baby down because I didnt have 4 grand to pay them and after taking to another vet I'm told they do that because they dont want other vets to get the business. I acted on their call instead of trusting God and having sabre ( faith )! Another vet specifically on OBT would have looked at her and helped ashly and worked with us. Why because they are doing it for the love ans not ALL about the money and they have morals. We all have to answer to God. May God have mercy on this hospital staff on judgment day. My family and I are Muslim and we pray heavily! I only pray that they was honest with us and that we truly had to put my ashly down. I only pray. Our hearts is heavy. May Allah have mercy. Ameen.

Jennifer Taylor

Dr. Stafford (and her resident Dr. Pare) was wonderful and extremely knowledgeable. I am so happy my precious girl Doodle is being cared for here. Everyone I interacted with in the lobby seemed very satisfied with their pets’ care as well!

We brought our pet dog Teddy to see the Cardiologist Specialist Dr. Bolfer. After Teddy was seen at an emergency location and our regular vet, we decided to see a specialist also. Glad we did. Dr. Bolfer diagnosed another heart condition. Dr. Bolfer is knowledgeable, kind, and spends time explaining Teddy's condition and options. The staff is wonderful.

Read ALL of the reviews. In our experience, this is an over-priced and unprofessional service, staffed by folks who, for the most part, lack any compassion. We took a dying cat there and had a difficult time getting information as to the status of our cat. When I posted a negative review on Yelp, they sent me a letter telling us we could no longer bring our cat there for health care. We received the letter three days after our cat died.

Expensive but thorough and beautiful facility

Walked in without appointment. Waited 10 mins. Staff was very nice.

This was not our first visit to AVS but one of our more critical. Long of the short of it all, our 13 y.o. kitty was ultimately diagnosed with Lymphoma. We were placed under Dr. Goodson's care (in the Oncology Department) and could not be more appreciative of her. She was patient with us, answered all of our questions, and was more importantly very honest in her responses. She showed the utmost care and compassion to both us as pet owners and to our little girl. Ultimately our kitty passed away due to other complications affecting her recovery. However we are still pleased with the care our kitty and we received at AVS. We would do it over again if necessary. The Doctors, Techs, and Reception Area staff were very polite and helped get all of our questions answered. Many other reviews mention that AVS is expensive and I would tend to agree. But in hindsight and given the specialized treatment we needed we are glad they were available to help us. Cost is always a concern but we were willing to take on that burden. i can only hope that progress is made in specialized veterinary medicine that will allow AVS to lower their costs in the future.

Advised by 2 veterinarians to seek information and consultation for our dog they are kind caring and great people ❤️

I can’t say enough good things about my experience at AVS. From the time we walked in until we walked out everyone was just fantastic. We have been before for one other serious surgery on our Dixie and she was well taken care of. This time we are back due to a different problem, heart problem. Our Dr. Luis Bolfer was just fantastic. After he ran tests and checked her out, we then got to sit down with him. He took his time and explained her condition and answered our questions so well that we didn’t leave feeling confused and overwhelmed. He told us to call anytime if we had questions until her recheck. I absolutely would recommend Dr. Bolfer, again and again. At a time like this, his kindness is so appreciated. A very satisfied patient thanks to Dr. Bolfer. The Chantos family

AVS are high quality specialists for animals and take their job very seriously. It may be costly, like any specialist, but they go over and beyond for your pet. My dog Nirvana had spinal surgery and they took amazing care of her, I couldn't thank them enough for the care they gave my sweet baby dog and continue to.

Lisa

Dr. Knight performed back surgery on our dog. She is amazing and explains things wonderfully. The staff is just as amazing. We truly felt our dog was in the best hands.

I had a consult with a surgeon, which was recommended by my personal vet. The surgeon was great, answered my questions and tool time to explain options. The appointment was pricy and I was referred to cardiology for my dog and scheduled before I left. I received a call the next day to tell me it was scheduled incorrectly and I would have to repeat the same test as the day before and the cardiologist would see my dog on his time without me and I would have to drop off and return to pick up my dog. When asked who would answer my questions, I was told their doctors, not the cardiologist. Why am I having my dog seen by a cardiologist if they have to repeat testing, I have to re-pay again and then get no answers. Poor customer service experience in getting this referral.

My fur babies are my life. My 8 year old lab mix is very very active and he started limping on his back right leg on and off. We thought he initially over did it, but finally brought him to the vet. My home town vet put him under for X-rays and stated he needed surgery ASAP, torn ACL. Never showed me Xrays, never discussed options. Needless to say they sent us home on anti inflammatories and his limp improved almost a 100%. We went back to the vet for another visit and than they were indecisive if it was a tear because he improved so well with anti inflammatories. I did my own research and learned of the numerous options of ACL repairs in pups on top of that and now I was completely hesitant on putting him through such a huge procedure. I asked for a 2nd option and they referred us here to AVS in Maitland. Went over for an initial exam and right off the bat felt 10x more comfortable. The vet came out discussed the X-rays and different options for surgery, with the assistance of a model leg. He underwent surgery that week, spent the night there and came home the next day. It was rough. No jumping. Leash walking at all times. His leg initially swelled pretty bad even down into his foot. I was able to email them a pic and had a quick response for reassurance. He got his staples out in 10 days. And repeat X-rays in a month than another month. It was such a great experience. Obviously not cheap by any means, but we’ll worth it. Dukes back to his usual activity and doing well. So happy with my choice to get the TPLO procedure done here!

Great with my pet. Skilled surgeon.

Dr. Knight in neurology is amazing!! This week has been the most traumatic week ever as a pet parent. Dr. Knight quickly examined my boy, and made sure to keep me updated with everything. She's been great in a really scary situation.

We brought in our dear Blackie, a Shih Tzu of 12 yrs, 8 months due to congestive heart failure. The hospital was able to accommodate us quickly and immediately began caring for our precious Blackie. Dr. Stafford, Dr. Harris and the rest of the staff, including Nurse Barbara, were very professional and caring. They did everything they could to save our pet. Sadly, Blackie is gone now but we are forever grateful for their professionalism and expertise. We highly recommend Affiliated Veterinary Specialists for your pet medical needs. They love their patients and it shows. God bless them all. From Blackie: Thanks for caring for me, AVS. I am in heaven. I crossed the rainbow bridge and am waiting to see my family again!

In September of 2018, our dog Auggie’s liver levels sky rocketed so high, that our vet’s machines weren’t able to read his samples. We made a next day appointment at AVS, where they kept him hospitalized for a full week. These people literally saved our dog. It’s been 7 months, and we still go for our routine follow ups. Everyone has turned into family to us, and we are so appreciative of everything they’ve done for our sweet little dog. Dr Wolff, Barbara, Ryanne, Dr. Amelie (and every other wonderful staff member who has cared for Auggie)...you all have been on this journey with us since the beginning and we cannot thank you enough. I never thought our little guy would be so happy and full of energy! I don’t know what we would have done without these wonderful people and this wonder facility. Thank you all so much!

Jeanette Heideman

I feel we received good care for our Annie.

Scarlett Wheat

Highly recommend AVS. They took wonderful care of our french bulldog, Griffin, for his brachycephalic surgery. We had a consult with the surgeon beforehand and she gave us almost an hour of her time. She was extremely kind and patient. She gave us a thorough explanation of the procedure and what to expect. Griffin had to stay overnight for recovery and the staff texted us pictures of our baby!! It was so comforting during such a stressful time.

Andres Verney

We took our two and a half year old female mutt that was suffering from seizures to see the neurologist here. They did a full workup and the doctor was very helpful, informative and nice. The doctor gave us several options to choose from for finding potential causes, treatment and outcome possibilities for our dog Roxy. The doctor also gave us time to ask all the questions that we had regarding our dog's condition.

Lon Neff

Great people, kind , caring, professional. They all treat your pet like it was theirs

Alyssa Elliott

I’m very satisfied with my experience at AVS. My dog has luxating patellas in her back legs and needed surgery to fix them. Dr. Tano and her team made sure that I understood my dog’s specific needs and exactly what the surgery would entail. The doctor called me after the surgery to let me know how it went. I felt like my dog was in good, capable hands the entire time, and the procedure actually cost me less than the original estimate. Dr. Tano is operating on one of my dog’s legs at a time and after the first operation, I’m looking forward to continuing treatment at AVS.

Full service place offering many specialties.

Great caring staff. Took really good care of Timmy!

As my dog got diagnosed with cancer I brought him here for treatment. The staff is very caring and loving.

My pet was refer here by Banfield Hospital (my regular vet) after I had a horrible experience at the Emergency Room. At the ER my dog had some x rays taken and it showed he had an enlarge heart, enlarge liver, and some sort of mass, which they didn't know if it was his prostate or a tumor. So we visited Affiliated Veterinary Specialist so he could have an ultra sound done. To keep things short everything was ok, his full bladder was confused with a tumor and the x rays that were taken at the ER were taken in a position that just made everything look bigger than what it actually was. Dr Wolfe was very kind and relieved all of our worries. Since they are specialist they are expensive and unfortunately financing it's not option, but they are great otherwise.

Wilfred de Jesus

Amazing Neurology team. Saved my pup from losing the use of his back legs. They are warm, caring, and absolutely dedicated to their patients and families.

Gina Ferguson

This is an amazing oncology office full of professionals that absolutely care for your pets with cancer. Dr. Goodson is straightforward and will fight for your pet's best outcome.

Kristen Helmers

I honestly cannot say enough about this clinic, from its staff, facility campus, services. I brought two of my animals here as referrals as desperate cases. One for gastric spelenduc torsion and one for paraylisis later discovered to be a herniated disc. Both times I was told the outcome wouldnt be good from my primary vet (who is also amazing), both times referred me here as the people who can fix it. Both times they saved them. They explain everything. This last operation I got calls throughout with updates. And both have recovered beyond my expectations. If you need a specialist, no doubt in my mind this is the place to go.

John

They did a good job with my precious poodle, Lexie, but every time they called me with an update, they suggested more and more very costly test. I understand they need to look at every avenue when bloodwork values are elevated but sometimes you may want to continue with your original diagnosis for a day or two, recheck bloodwork values, and then suggest more tests. After over $3,000.00 and tons of very expensive tests (which all came back negative), she ended up being treated for the original reason I took her there for...pancreatitis. She just needed iv fluids and antibiotics which is what I told them from the beginning. I just felt like sometimes I was being coerced into very expensive and unneeded tests under the conditions that if I didn't do them, she could possibly die. Having said all of that, they did treat her pancreatitis and the staff was nice and friendly. I just wish the specialists (vets.) could be a little more connected to the customer, be a little more human and not so robotic, and be more understanding, sensitive, and relatable to the customers.

I normally don’t write reviews but I just had to for AVS! My dog, duke, suddenly got a lump on his butt out of nowhere. He’s been healthy his whole life so my wife and I were immediately freaked. After being referred to AVS and reading some of the reviews, I was wary of price and some reviews about additional issues not even of concern. We feared the lump was cancerous so instead of wasting time we gave AVS a chance. At first glance, this place seems pricey and they do not offer any flexibility for even breaking out some of the payments which makes swallowing $4000 on treatment hard. So be prepared coming if it’s your first time. Once I arrived and spoke with the staff there I instantly understood why the cost is high: the service, expertise, and overall friendly/welcoming staff makes you feel like you get what you pay for. I was told what would happen, how much it would cost, and got notified same day about my dogs tests and surgery. I got a picture of him, cone and all, during his post op! Who does that?! I was given proper instructions, meds, and care from professionals who seem like they care even though they do this everyday. After finding out dukes lump was cancerous, we were lucky enough to get it removed without any spreading since we came in right away! Duke is my family’s only dog and coming to AVS I’m leaving here knowing he got the best treatment possible and that everyone here did what they could while being totally transparent about what was going on. I normally have an issue over strict pricing policies but I can’t even offer the suggestion with the level of care duke and I have experienced. We hope we never need to come back for this reason again but if we need to we will be back to AVS. Thank you so much! You guys are awesome!

Wendy Collette

Amazing place! Dr. Bolfer is fantastic! So incredibly qualified and kind. The level of sophistication is first rate. Dr. Bolfer was so caring and took a lot of time with my pet. He followed up and was there for our family. Highest recommendation!!

justin cole

This place is great with my dog bear. He was diagnosed with lymphoma around mid 2017. We have been coming here every week for 7 months. It’s pricy but not like it’s not expected. Doctor goodston is amazing. And very good at being sympathetic and explaining things.

Marie Cammarasana

I have to say these people are the best as far as specialist go. However, you need to make sure you have money to see the specialist. If you have the money they will save your dog or cat. They give good care and they're very compassionate to the needs that you may be facing

Levi C

Looks like they changed their name on Google maps. Must be because of all of the negative reviews. If you want to see all of the full reviews, look under Affiliated Veterinary Specialists. You'll get a good picture of what this place is like. The fact is, this is one big money machine. They won't look at your pet and make any assessment without running you through hundreds of dollars worth of tests just to tell you something that another experienced vet could tell you based on their experience. They used car sales tactics, including leaving you in a room for lengthy periods of time while they do whatever they are doing in the back before coming out to tell you their ridiculous price. If you challenge it, they leave you in the room for a while, only to return later with another possible set of fees. It literally felt like I was buying a car as far as this being a money machine, if you don't believe me, look at the cars in the parking lot. These people aren't driving Hondas. Look around the office. They're paying for all of that without any insurance! That's all money made off of the guilt you'll feel if you won't have them run all of these crazy tests before coming to any kind of conclusion. My primary care physician can make an assessment without running a thousand tests, and I can sue him if he screws up! Take your loved one somewhere where they will be cared about, and not just a place that's looking to profit from your pets suffering. Thanks.

Erica Diaz

Expensive

My dog had two TPLO surgeries here. He has been recovering very well and they do a great job following up after the appointment and making sure he was taken care of. The costs for the procedures are a bit high but they do have a lot of experience. The market for TPLO's is pretty lucritive and people are willing to pay for them so they charge it. I can't blame them for that but it is still hard having to make a costly decision on what to do for your beloved animals. Definitely not the most cost effective place for your animal but one of the best in quality if you can afford it from my experiences.

Annie Taylor

Thanks for sending us a card for our silver. This is the only kind thing I can say this place did for us. I would never bring another one of my pets here because this place seems to be nothing but a money grab. THESE PEOPLE ARE IGNORANT, NOT COMPASSIONATE AND ARE LIARS THEY PRESSURE YOU TO KILL YOUR LOVED ONES THE ANIMALS YOU CARE ABOUT AND THEY NEVER GIVE A DEFINITIVE DIAGNOSIS THEY MADE US KILL OUR LESS THAN 2 YEARS OLD CAT WITHOUT GIVING US ANY TIME TO THINK OR RESEARCH AFTER TAKING OUR $1300 FOR A DIAGNOSIS THAT WAS INCONCLUSIVE AND THE DOCTOR DID NOT KNOW WHAT SHE WAS DOING AS A MATTER OF FACT SHE DID NOT KNOW ANYTHING! DURING OUR VISIT SHE STATED THAT SHE HAD “12 other patients to see” even though our baby was the only one in critical condition we felt like our feelings and decisions were rushed and were not heard. When it came down to it we had less than 2 minutes to say goodbye to our baby boy. I will never forgive the doctor or this place for that. WE FEEL LIED TO AND ABUSED AND MADE TO KILL A PERFECTLY HEALTHY BABY BUT SHE DID NOT WANT TO HEAR OTHERWISE. THEY DO NOT CARE ABOUT ANIMALS ONLY YOUR WALLET. OF COURSE THE POISON TO KILL OUR BABY WAS FREE BUT TO ACTUALLY HELP HIM WHICH YOU DID NOT WAS NOT FREE AT ALL. STOP THE LIES AND GREED!!! R.I.P. lil baby Silverman. I also had a necropsy done on him after we left before his cremation. Results were that he did not die of heart disease like this ignorant doctor claimed so we were forced to kill a baby that could have been saved! Thanks for taking away a member of our family!!!

Casey Contini

Nice people. Did great work on dog knee. Took good care of her.

Raymond Frazee

Excellent care for your pet.

My dog and I were treated by Dr. Bolfer, Shirley and staff with much love, Care and Respect. He found the problem and started treatment. Our return visited was the same with very good progress. My baby is doing much better now. We are on our way to recovery. Thank you Dr.Bolfer and staff. Love to you and staff Brooklyn and Mom❤❤

Great service and friendly staff. They took great care of my legged canine daughter.

The doctors at AVS are top notch. Have brought several of my pups here over the years and they have always been knowledgeable and kind.

My dog has congestive heart failure. Dr. Bolfer is a great cardiologist. He’s been treating animals with heart disease for 12 years. Very knowledgeable and understanding. The staff is really good and nice!

I am not even sure where to start. Five Stars cannot totally capture what the staff did for me and my family. AVS is just that...(An) Associated Veterinary Specialists so when we brought my 2 1/2 year old Shiba, Keme, here, it was because we were referred to them for the excellence in medicine above and beyond what our doctor could do for us anymore. We knew when we transported her there on a Monday, June 10th 2019, this was our last chance to get her on the correct path to recovery. Keme had recently been diagnosed with ITP/IMHA due to a reaction to stacked vaccines. Upon that diagnosis, she was horribly mis-treated (mis-diagnosed) with medicines that caused plueral effusion with no improvement to the disease. It was from a second opinion (and a new Doctor) that referred us to AVS after they did everything they could to just stabilize her. From the moment we arrived at 7:00 am, they took Keme straight back and got her comfortable and started working on her. They being Doctor Stafford and Doctor Harris. These two amazing doctors were her primary care team the whole time. When Doctor Stafford wasn’t there it was Doctor Harris. They came to love Keme quickly so I knew they meant what they say, which got more difficult for them as the week went by. I saw this team every day. Please note that they didn’t come right at us with the bill. When they did, it was a 75% deposit, which they monitored for us, always communicating what they were doing and where we were with her care/treatment and with our account. Keme’s team called me twice a day. I needed those calls very much. They let me visit for several hours a day, every day (except Sunday) for over a week, with no hassles or interruptions. On Keme’s last day, they did everything they could to give me every minute with her that I needed. They didn’t give us false hope. They didn’t give me false hope. Keme’s team gave it everything they could. Truth is, I wish I had found this team sooner!!! They and Keme could have had a better chance to beat the disease. When I looked back at AVS website to see who Keme’s team was, I had not even realized that Doctor Stafford was IMHA oriented. To know now, even after everything that happened, I know Keme was in the best care she could be. Doctor Stafford...That Monday, when you looked me in the eyes and asked me on Keme’s behalf to make that difficult decision, I know it was hard for you. Thank you so much for reaching into my heart and helping me be #Shibastrong. I will never forget what you both did for her. I will be back in person to say Thank You appropriately to you both. It has just been over whelming for us. Thank you so much for that personalized card you both sent. It meant so much to us. Thank You AVS...Even on that Friday we picked up Keme’s cremains, you walked my husband outside, in privacy, and continued to respect Keme’s memory. We can never thank you enough. We highly recommend AVS...We will come back if we ever need you again. With our highest respect and regards. Soraya Robideaux and Mark Burnham (Eustis, Fl)

We’ve been coming to AVS Maitland for various reasons with our dogs over the past few years, and while we’ve had great experiences in every department, there are definitely two that stand out. Dr. Bolfer in Cardiology has been wonderful in helping us resolve our Boxer’s cardiomyopathy- even going out of his way to contact his Veterinary Nutritionist friend to help us formulate the perfect diet, and Dr. Goodson, who has been helping us treat our other dog’s cancer for close to 3 years. Dr. Goodson’s level of compassion, care, and abilities has been a complete shock to us. Having 7 dogs in our family and over a decade of experience working in dog rescue, never have we experienced a Vet that is so dedicated to her patients; one that encompasses all of the kindness imaginable without sacrificing a single ounce of professionalism. In the face of such a terrifying diagnosis, her ability to present facts delicately yet transparently, while somehow always curating the perfect plan and backup, is...indescribable. No amount of words could accurately express our gratitude to them, or to AVS, for all that they do for our furry family members.

Tommy Walls

Amazing staff and facility. I could not recommend them more

Isaiah Boykins

The staffs are very nice loving people! They did a great job taken care of Savanna! They made my wife and I very happy how they treated Savanna! They called us daily giving us updates. Unfortunately we had to put her down and some of the staff came to work on their off day to say good bye. They made Savanna feel very loved and happy. Most people will never experience the love that they showed towards Savanna! Savanna past away in a loving way with her family and friends outside in the sunshine!

Derek Heser

We brought our 3 year old German Shepherd here after our regular veterinarian said she needed a specialist. Dr. Olson and her colleagues were able to find out that our girl had IMPA and needed specific treatment and medications to help her with the pain. We are all around pleased with the thoroughness and professionalism that AVS showed and will definitely come back (hopefully not necessary) and recommend to others.

Jacki Sandler

AVS is the best place to take your pet who has been diagnosed with a disease. I've used AVS for over 20 years. Great group of people and outstanding surgeons.

Pamela Mena

Thank you sooooooooooo much for taking care of my baby! AVS helped Frankie walk again! <3

Cyndi Read

The neurological team saved my toy poodle Peanut. Exceptional ❤ care. I can always count on AVS to make a clear diagnosis, treatment plan, and follow up care.

Mariah Watson Selzer

Everyone here was kind and customer service and everything was good but look... they quoted us between $5,000-$7,500 for surgery to remove my cat's cancerous tumor. We were all shocked at this cost. Whereas River Oaks Animal Hospital in Longwood quoted no more than $2,500 for the same thing. So we did the surgery at River Oaks, who gave us a free second opinion, and I'm so glad. Yes they have specialist equipment but I would definitely search for second or third opinions and quotes at other places for whatever they suggest to you. I mean it's your money so do with it what you want but that's just my advice: always do a little shopping around and getting quotes and opinions elsewhere if the issue with your pet isn't insanely time sensitive because from what I've heard AVS is known for being pricey. Turns out my cat's tumor was huge and the cancer had spread beyond saving him and he was declining rapidly so we unfortunately had to put him down so I'm at least glad we only ended up spending $750 instead of minimum of $5,000 like they quoted us for something that wouldn't have even saved him.

L T

Dr. Wolff at AVS in Internal Medicine saved our dog’s life. They are a bit expensive, but for the care and treatments you get and knowing that they have multiple specialists that deal with specific issues day in and day out, it’s worth it if you can afford it. Just to give an idea, my dog has a couple different issues. His first visit was about $1,500. They did multiple tests. It took about 3-4 hours (which they warned me it would) so I left and came back and they called me as needed while I was gone. It was worth it though because it was no longer a “could be this could be that.” They knew each thing that was wrong and the level of severity and explained their plan of action. A week or 2 later, he had to stay overnight 2 days to get him back on track. He needed stronger antibiotics through IV and more fluids along with electrolytes to get him back on track. That was about $2,200. Since then my dog has continually improved and is back to his old self. He still has kidney problems and will throughout his life, so we take him back every few months to check his kidney function. Each time we go is about $220. It’s worth it knowing you’re getting the best care from specialists.

Kathleen Lelonek

Nice kind

I have to put 1 star to write this review. My dog was taken there he was diagnosed with tendonitis by this horrible and unprofessional Dr Smith. She sent him home with prednisone and tylenol for pain. Now after a month my dog just died due a kidney failure because tylenol is toxic to dogs and cause death and specially you cant mux this with prednisone. More than 4 dr saw him and they were horrified that this Dr Smith prescribe tylenol to a healthy dog. I need this clinic to respond and to kick out this dr. I dont want this to happen to another dog

Hayden j

They quoted me $6,000 to remove a tumor from my dogs leg that I ended up finding another vet to remove and test the tumor for $415.00. They are definitely all about the money then if you start to question the price or doubt them in anyway they become agitated and try to make you feel bad for not paying whatever exuberant price they quoted you. Stay away from this place if you can definitely looking to soak you for every penny. In reply to your response no the fees did not include chemo that was for testing and removal if you'd like I can post pictures of said quotes from your office. I was told on top of the $6,000 just to get the test done, and remove the tumor it would be another 400 per session for chemo or radiation and it could take up to 8 sessions. Your response is laughable at best.

Yamira Acevedo

The worth experience ever We were refer for a possible extraction situation. The quote was $2400. We paid $1700 deposit and was to pay the diffrence upon pick up..returned only $433. The atribute the amount to pre operation proceedings around $700 plus $650 for a alleged cleaning they did not performed. I was relief that he did not need surgery but to say you had to make a cleaning when he was referred to them after a deep cleaning performed 3 weeks ago is a shame. It hey had kept 300 for the xrays I was ok...but to try to play ot like a cleaning and attempt to justify $650 is insulting. Do your homework and find someone honest enough to be fair with your money. To do good business and to show that you value costumers start by being honest with the cost.

Sarrawr Z

Very kind staff and very communicative. Were very helpful in explaining things in detail. Took good card of out dog Abby who is fully healed now from a leg injury.

Jack Reacher 7

Yes it is expensive--but when you need specialized care for your fur babies this is the place to go.

BEWARE! Had a hip replacement for my golden retriever 5.5 years ago by Dr. Peck "to eliminate pain and restore normal level of function" which she never experienced after her surgery at AVS ($6,000). She has been in pain and lame since the surgery. I have returned numerous times since the surgery to meet with Dr. Peck. At a year and a half after her hip replacement she couldn't walk and I was carrying her? These visits cost between $300-$500 each time and AVS has done 8 sets of xrays ($3000) with sedation for Dr. Peck to finally diagnose that the implant had loosened. Now we had to have another surgery to remove the implant - another very rare procedure? Yes, there is always a chance of complications with any surgery, but the big questions are why he kept xraying and prescribing drugs for muscle pulls and pain? Didn't he recognize there may be a problem with the hip replacement? After consulting with other local veterinarians they warned me to avoid AVS, and I was even told they "have cleaned up other Dr. Peck hip surgery messes," (of course he told me this doesn't happen and his surgeries are very successful). Their reputation is not good from those I spoke with. Hip replacements failing like this are very rare, so we decided to contact Kyon Products that make the Zurich Hip replacements used and they told us they would do an investigation regarding a "technical error" by Dr. Peck? Questions regarding incorrect size (an XS cup was used - they recommended a medium for a golden retriever and if it was an incorrect size cup with a medium head and small stem (they recommended a medium) and was the angle/positioning correct? Dr. Peck himself even admitted when I questioned him that the angle wasn't what he usually likes to do? Incorrect sizing/angling of the implants is a very big reason why the implants fail? I requested a meeting with Dr. Peck and Michelle, the Asst. Manager at AVS, but they denied there were any errors and reminded me there is a consent form you have to sign stating there are risks. To make matters worse, while dealing with AVS over the past 5.5 years I have experienced a lack of compassion/caring by the staff and it is very obvious it is a business that's #1 priority is to make $ and not care for your pet. When I dropped Bailey off for her 2nd surgery, April the vet tech was very rude with eyes rolling and sighs when I asked if they had my contact phone number to reach me after the surgery as I had a long drive home outside of Orlando. By the way, I finally got a quick call to check on Bailey 2 days after her surgery at the end of the day. We get a check up call from other Dr. offices after little things like ear infections the next day? It is very apparent that many of the staff members in the office don't like dogs. There is no caring like acknowledging your dog's name, petting them, talking to them. April just pulled/slid her across the floor to take her out of the exam room for surgery because she didn't want to go with her. Besides the lack of caring and compassion, be prepared to discuss money and payments to them before you talk about your surgery and care for your pet as money is the first priority here! When I begged for a discount since my total spent with Bailey's hip replacement, numerous xrays and drugs, and second surgery to remove the implant was around $10,000, I was finally given a resident discount of $300 -wow - that's it and I had to ask for it three times after it was supposedly approved? After this terrible experience I will never return to AVS and would suggest checking other options before taking your dog to Dr. Peck at AVS for a Total Hip Replacement! Check out all of their negative reviews online and talk to others first to avoid your dog going through what mine has suffered the last 6 years! We are doing Physical Therapy somewhere else, not at AVS, and what a difference to work with people who are caring - Bailey actually enjoys her visits now too and will hopefully be able to walk without pain in the near future!

My dog has idiopathic epilepsy and was having seizures biweekly..they helped get his seizures down to a fraction of what he was suffering prior..great place and waiting rooms are cleaner than human urgent care or hospitals..and they have cappucino/coffee machine..you get what you pay for..pricey but worth every penny

I brought my little girl Molly to this Veterinary office for us this was for her eyes. The doctor is extremely friendly and cares about what he does. He spent time and thoroughly went over her also explained what were the plan for her treatment. His staff is extremely compassionate friendly and very helpful. I highly recommend this establishment.

Our first visit to AVS was over 3 years ago and I cannot say enough about the staff and doctors at AVS. In 2016 our 9 year-old English Bulldog was referred to AVS by our local vet due to a life threatening arrhythmia. His condition was grave and we did not have much hope of him returning home with us. After 3 days in the care of AVS we brought him home 3 days later. Thanks to the dedication and caring of the doctors at each of his follow-up visits he lived for another 3 years with a good quality of life. In March of this year we returned to AVS with a 12 week-old English Bulldog puppy due to a heart murmur. He was diagnosed with congenital heart disease. His condition was serious. However, the specialists and diagnostic abilities at AVS correctly diagnosed his condition and we began a course of medication. Four weeks later at his follow-up visit his blood pressure was within normal limits and his condition has improved. Some comments reflect frustration with the cost. But, the cost of diagnostic testing is no higher than what a human or their insurance company pays for similar testing. Pets are a member of the family and if a situation arises and you need to care for a pet with a chronic condition AVS is the place to go so your pet maintains a high quality of life. Thank you Dr. Smyth, Meghan, Dr. Wolff, Dr. Bolfer, and Shirley.

The doctors and staff were friendly, gentle, and comforting when I had to take my sweet fur baby.

We were referred to the neurologist by our local vet. We made almost a two hour trip to get here and the staff and doctor were great. The office is clean and they actually care about your animal not just trying to nickel and dime you. We were given a few options of what to do, and didn’t have any surprise at check out. Thank you!!

I would avoid this place unless you have unlimited funds. Unfortunately I was referred in panicked emergency, while my dog was oxygen dependent and my normal vet did not have oxygen. They won't even do anything unless you pay them $500 just to walk through the door. All I really wanted to was get my dog stabalized and off the oxygen so I could work with my normal vet, but they didn't even bother to ask before recommending an excessive treatment program that would cost thousands of dollars. Funny when you say you don't have all that money they can come up with a more reasonable treatment plan... Then god forbid they give you a break on making a payment. I had spent $3k in the past 24 hours when I was there between having him in overnight emergency care and AVS and they threw a fit about giving me a few days to come up with the remaining $294. Like sorry i've maxed out my credit card and drainined my bank account due to this emergency like can you give me a break!

Very polite and friendly

Dr. Bolfer has a great bedside manner and spent a lot of time with me answering my questions.

Again we and our dog were treated with the upmost kindness. We were in Internal Medicine.

The worst!!! They care only for $$$, if your 'little one' has a health problem, please make sure you see other Vets. My dog died because they made us wait to long for surgery. And when it was time for it, they didn't even care to tell me that it wouldn't help anyway. They would've make the dog suffer after the surgery ( not to mention it would've cost me another $ 4,700 on top of $1.500that I've paid in the first hour of being there!) I would go on and on about their greedy and heartless doctors... my "baby died", but I made sure he had the most happiest last 2 month of his life by not chopping his body and killing it slowly of meds and therapies. I am still emotional but trust me when I say- DON'T go there!
