Our poor baby bunny Max became ill on 4-22-19. We took our sweet boy to Windcrest around 1030pm that night. The staff brought us back immediately and began caring for him. We knew he was very sick but wanted to do what we could to stop his suffering. Stephanie, part of the ICU staff, is was so kind and compassionate. She cared for Max like he was her own. Dr. Dawkins was also very understanding and compassionate. He explained, in detail, what could be wrong with Max. He was very forthcoming and let us know the truth about Max’s condition. We sadly had to let our boy cross the rainbow bridge but he was handled with dignity and care. They allowed us to spend time with him and say goodbye. It was so incredibly hard to let him go but Stephanie and Dr. Dawkins made this awful experience much easier with their kindness and understanding. We thank you both so much for all that you did. Sincerely, Jennifer And Carl Reed

Probably the best way to give this review is to just tell my story. Several days ago, and very late in the evening, our cat experienced what appeared to be a seizure, lost the use of her rear legs, and her breathing became shallow. I googled and learned that basically the only game in town was Windcrest, so I called and they said come in immediately. I ran just about every red light between Bellefonte and Lancaster Pike, and arrived at 1:30 AM. Windcrest immediately did blood work and x rays and determined my cat had internal bleeding from a tumor on her spleen. I was told that even with surgery the probability of her surviving anesthesia and surgery was at best 40%. We decided to go for it, and Dr. Kern at Windcrest had a blood donor cat on the way for a transfusion at 3:00 AM. Dr. Kern was empathetic and didn't minimize the dire nature of this situation. She could not have handled this better. It was also her immediate and decisive action that kept my cat alive and strong enough for surgery. She moved with a sense of urgency that you rarely see except when a life is in danger, and her quick diagnosis and immediate action in fact did save a life. The surgery took place the next morning, and my cat survived the surgery. Best of all and at least for now, the tumor appears to have not spread, and after a recovery period she should be back to normal. She was already eating the same day after the operation. Dr. Snijders performed the surgery, and the result speaks for itself. Prior to the surgery, he told us how long it should take, what to expect, and that he would speak with us as soon as it was concluded. He followed through with all of that, kept us in the loop, and fulfilled every commitment. Prior to surgery he didn't minimize the danger and didn't give us false hope. At the same time he had a high degree of confidence, and left us feeling my cat was in good hands. In the case of both Dr. Kern and Dr. Snijders, their empathetic bedside manner is exceeded only by their skill as Doctors and surgeons. There is one thing that is certain. If not for this hospital my cat would be dead. And when you cut to the chase that's the only thing that matters. This is a state of the art facility that runs 24/7 staffed by people that are passionate about saving your pet. At that precise time of day, and given the situation I faced, without these folks I would have lost my cat before her time. My cat was released forty-eight hours after her surgery. Dr. Rodriguez handled the discharge, and he did that with the same amount of care and professionalism that seems to be the standard in this hospital. My cat is now home and recovering. She gets better every day and she is a different cat and well along the road to a full recovery. Almost every day I've called Windcrest with concerns and questions, and each and every time my calls are answered knowledgeably and professionally. They are there 24/7 for us and I am profoundly grateful. There's another group of folks here that are heroes in my book. Those would be the technicians that took such good care of my cat. I encountered so many of them that I can't remember all the names. They too were there for us every step and inch of the way, and I owe them a huge thank-you and an expression of a job well done. It's simply impossible for me to express in words how grateful I am.

I have had multiple experiences at this veterinary clinic. While the staff, vet techs, and veterinarians have always been pleasant and professional, the ridiculous over charging of services and the long times in the office make coming to this office not worth it at all. I have a cat that is being treated for the same minor health issue for the past 2 months. At my last follow up visit, I paid for an expensive office visit and multiple medications to treat symptoms but none to help with my cat's illness because it was too close to having been on his antibiotic, which could have been triaged on the phone. Not to mention that I have paid three different prices for urinalysis. Each one even more expensive then the last. I'm sure that in response to this I will be given the typical tag line of "we appreciate your concerns...please call the client relations manager. ". Perhaps they wouldn't need a full time client services manager if the practice started working on consistent care that doesn't leave a person sitting in a room waiting for a quote for an hour and a half. A quote, not even care for my cat. My cat is still sick by the way, and I am now looking for a vet who will finally help my pet get better, not looking for ways to upcharge me for unnecessary care.

Poor emergency service, poor attitude, poor tech, high price, irresponsible working attitude, all they want is money money money money, DONT EVER EVER EVER GO THERE AGAIN! GO TO PENN VET! Penn vet has reasonable price and professional doctor, they care about your pet like there own pets! they save my second chinchilla life and the doctor who was responsible for this has her eyes filled with red streak, this is a doctor should look like! not a doctor who is in emergency department let us wait for 2 hours and kept telling us, she is going to die, you should pay the bill, balabalabalabala, pay the bill , pay the bill pay the bill!!!!!!!! all this hospital care about is pay the bill!!!!!

Nikki Darden

Very nice people, but extremely overpriced when the services are compared to other Vet Hospitals. Will not be returning, as I feel taken advantage of in the time of my pet's emergencies. Again, this is not a negative review against the staff I encountered or the quality of care, but against the $$$ in comparison to other vets.

I went to the emergency vet last night at 6:30pm with my daughters guinea pig that was having breathing issues. she was eating fine and drinking fine when I took her and I left with a dead guinea pig. while I understand that these things happen but the Dr.s Bedside manner with a child in the room was TERRIBLE!!!!!!!! there are ways to explain that what is going on can be fatal. but to just come right out and say that the animal might die is just downright wrong. then when i said something to her she got defensive. I mean she could have said she might not make it she is pretty sick and then let me explain to my daughter that this is pretty serious. so instead I left with a very distrought child and a lifeless guniea pig. Needless to say I will be looking for another small vet clinic even if it means I have to drive to PA, NJ, or MD. My daghter has begged me to not ever take another pet there especially hers.

I had an appointment for 1pm. My sister stopped breathing and went into ICU in Montana and my dog was completely out of Meds. As I prepared to get to Montana they stated they would see me for an emergency visit fee earlier that day even though now I have to pay for an emergency plane ticket. They of course said there was nothing they could do. They didn't care about me, they didn't care that my dog was out of meds and I could be gone a while to take care of my elderly parents so basically neither my sisters life nor my dogs mattered to them. Transferring paperwork to another vet. Don't ever go here. They are only out for the money.

We used to take our chinchillas here but have since switched to Penn Vet in Philadelphia. The prices here are easily double or sometimes triple the standard for exotics care, which is already expensive, and after taking our chinchilla to Penn Vet for a tooth trimming, we've found that the care they receive there is as good or better for a much lower price. Windcrest estimated $800 to $1,000 to trim his teeth, while the same procedure was a little less than $100 at Penn Vet. If you aren't local enough to Philly and are looking for a chinchilla vet, I recommend going to the Hockessin location of this affiliation and asking for Dr. Dallatore, who is excellent with chinchillas.

One star because the young male vet who sees rabbits was super sweet to my little baby with cancer to the second we had to put him down. Zero stars for the South African-sounding older male vet who does dog emergencies for seeing my sick 5 month old Newfoundland puppy and grabbing her by the collar so she wouldn't get close enough to drool on him (an inevitability with newfs). She fear peed herself because, duh, she's a baby and she's sick. She stepped in the fear pee and then stepped on him so I added a star because that instant karma was really satisfying.

Extremely knowledgeable and caring staff. Our dog was rushed here yesterday for an emergency visit due to vomiting and bloody stools. They took care of him immediately and were very kind to us. He has been diagnosed with pneumonia among other things. The dr stayed with us the entire time while we had a million questions. He was given X-rays, blood work and medication to take home. I had researched a few things at home and became upset about what I was finding so my fiancé called and he had a vet tech on the phone talking to him assuring him everything was going to be ok. After which the same vet tech then made a personal call to me to address the fact that I was upset and offered me a lot of information on the pneumonia that my dog has and was very kind and sympathetic. I wish I had gotten her name because that extra step right there instantly gets them a 5 star rating! They not only cared for my dog but for me as well. The dr also called me later to go over in detail my dogs X-rays and was extremely helpful! While they are extremely expensive, I truly feel you get top notch service and it is worth it! We will never take our pup anywhere else! Thank you Windcrest and your amazing staff! ❤️

This place claims to be a Critical Care Facility. They are NOT! They charge critical rates, but your pet will not get critical care treatment. Bird Man (Dawson) is quite frankly the most obnoxious creepy jerk I have ever interacted with. He may know how to take care of exotics, but he is a clueless idiot to care for regular domestic animals. Shocking, just shocking experience. All they talk about at this place is euthanasia. Sickening creepy people. I transferred my pet to another facility.

I have a 9 week old puppy that became lethargic and would not eat. The staff was excellent. We had quite a wait due to a serious medical emergency. But the staff kept us updated. Thankfully my puppy is okay. I would highly recommended this facility. Everyone was friendly and the place was very clean.

They're really expensive but they're worth it. Dont come here unless it's an emergency and your wealthy. For common stuff go to cheap local vets, dog gets hit by a car you go to Windcrest. Very knowledgeable staff.

It's taken me a while to write this review. We have been bringing our pets to Hockessin Animal Hospital for 25 years and continued once the hospital came under the Windcrest umbrella. The staff have always been professional and courteous at all locations and have saved more than one pet of ours over the years. Pricing for all services is generally higher than other vets but we've been aware of that and continued to choose this hospital system. And now, we had a older cat in decline for a number of months and had decided to give him a mild steroid treatment while watching for a change in his quality of life at which time we would put him down. And during our September visit, we had to do so with no time to consider having the procedure done at home as we had done for 4 other pets. On this day we were at Windcrest and once the IV was inserted into our cat, we waited an excruciating 20+ minutes for the doctor to return to administer the euthanasia drugs. Instead, when the doctor returned, we were told the key to open the cabinet where the drugs were stored was missing and we were asked whether we wanted to have someone drive to Hockessin to get the drugs or if we wanted to drive to Hockessin ourselves to take care of the procedure there. We were beside ourselves to be in this dilemma and being asked these questions. After a bit more drama, we were able say goodbye to our sweet boy at Windcrest. But the lingering feeling is that our cat should not have gone through the level of distress he had to undergo because the staff misplaced a key. A suggestion would be to ensure everything needed to perform a euthanasia procedure be ready to go before inserting an IV so that a difficult time is not made more so due to a staff mistake.

Two weeks ago we brought our cat in he needed surgery and we did what we could to get it taken care of. It's very expensive and we understand that nothing is a guarantee but we never expected our cat to still be sick and when we call be told they wont do anything untill we pay off the bill for the first surgery and pay up front for any new visit. What kind of animal hospital would just let a cat die? our cat is having trouble breathing and i am afraid he wont last too much longer without help. I hope the people at windcrest are proud of themselves i am going to have to explain to my kid that her cat is dead because these so called animal lovers choose money over helping a sick animal

This place was horrible! My doggy was very sick and all the people kept talking about was the money, and if I didn't have the money they would just put him to sleep thank God for elk neck vet they care about ur animal 1st and your money later!! These people are EVIL!

Rude, unprofessional, money hungry!!! I just moved into the area and started going here, was 17 min late bringing my sick cat, after an hour + commute on a Friday night, in the rain, with awful traffic, and they refused to keep the appointment, told me I needed to reschedule. No one mentioned the 15 min rule when I scheduled it. They sent multiple emails and text messages reminding me of the date and time but never once bothered to mention this rule. Go to another vet!!

Been coming to this vet since I moved to Elsmere and they have always been upfront about the price, compassionate to my needs and circumstances. All around a good vet.

DO NOT TAKE YOUR PET HERE. WE TOOK ARE 100% HEALTHY CAT TO HAVE A DENTAL CLEANING AT WINDCREST IN CENTERVILLE, DELAWARE.. OUR CAT WAS LEFT ALONE AFTER BEING PUT UNDER ANESTHESIA AND WE WERE TOLD HE BROKE A CANINE TOOTH BECAUSE HE WAS UNATTENDED. THEY DO NOT LOOK AFTER YOUR PET AFTER DOSING IT WITH SIGNIFICANT BEHAVIOR-ALTERARING ANESTHESIA. THEN THE INCOMPETENT STAFF THOUGHT HE HAD A GROWTH WHICH WAS ACTUALLY JUST HIS TOE ON HIS PAW AND SHAVED HIS LEGS FOR NO REASON. WHAT TRAINED PROFESSIONAL DOES NOT KNOW THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A TOE AND A TUMOR? THEN THEY CHARGED ME FOR ALL OF THIS (>$700). NOW MY CAT IS MISSING A TOOTH, IN AGONIZING PAIN AND LOOKS RIDICULOUS FROM THE SHAVE. BEWARE. DO NOT GO TO THIS VET. THEY DO NOT CARE ABOUT YOUR ANIMAL AND ARE ONLY TRYING TO SELL UNNECESSARY SERVICES AND MEDICATIONS FOR PERFECTLY HEALTHY AND HAPPY PETS. IF YOU LOVE YOUR PET, DO NOT TAKE IT TO WINDCREST. ALSO, WE DON'T APPRECIATE AUTO-RESPONSES OF HONEST REVIEWS ON GOOGLE WHICH ARE INTENDED TO INFORM THE INNOCENT PUBLIC FROM "CUSTOMER SERVICE". I SHARED BY CONCERNS ALREADY DIRECTLY WITH WINDCREST STAFF AT CHECK-OUT ONLY TO HAVE WINDCREST STAFF SHARE THAT THEY ALSO HAD PERSONALLY BAD DENTAL EXPERIENCES. ZERO EMPATHY, ZERO ACCOUNTABILITY, ZERO PROFESSIONALISM. THIS VET SHOULD NOT HAVE A BUSINESS LICENSE.

I give them 2 stars for successful surgery. My pit bull began vomiting one morning and continued throughout the day. I took him into Windcrest at the recommendation of the shelter I adopted him from. Windrest suggested X-rays ($400) and found he had a foreign object stuck in his stomach. They basically said I could wait for him to pass it, they recommended I leave him there overnight for "observation" at a cost of $1,600 to $2,300. Since I could not afford that, I took him home to observe him myself. He continued to throw up to try to remove the object and 12 hours later I brought him back to Windcrest not knowing what to do. There was little guidance from the vet. I arrived at midnight and explained I had been there 12 hours ago and I think he needed surgery. They said it would be $3,000 plus $900 per day for after care. And they gave me a credit application to apply for credit at 21% interest. I think this is unconscionalbe that they would charge this much money to people who are in need of urgent medical care for their pets. Had I known this place was a money mill I definitely would have taken him elsewhere. So while they fixed my dog, I actually had to request a credit limit increase and will be paying this off for YEARS. If other vets can provide this service at a reasonable cost, this place is basically taking advantage of people, and the people and their pets pay the price by either becoming buried in debt or worse, surrendering their pets? The people who own and run this place should be ashamed of themselves. They offer no payment plans and would not even admit my dog until I had paid. I warn you, do not take your pet here if you have an emergency unless you have a lot of money. Find another animal hospital with a conscience that cares about providing reasonable health care to pets.

I took my dog there to the ER because she stumbled down the steps and was limping. They told me she had fleas and expressed her anal glands. They never looked at her foot. The next night the foot was bleeding. They wouldn't recheck her without another ER visit. They said it was probably itchy and to give her Benadryl. I took her to another vet the next morning. She had a twisted foot/ankle, bruised tail and a nail that was cracked into the quick. I can get over to wasted money I spent there. What I can't get over is the fact that their either inability or unwillingness to do their job left my dog in pain for 3 days. I advise anyone needing veterinary care to go elsewhere. And their automated response to the review telling me as my pets provider they can't publicly talk about it but to call customer service is insulting.

The staff was very caring and attentive. They made me and my dog feel very welcomed. I would highly recommend this place.

I've used Windcrest over the past 20 years or so for three cats, and I adopted my current cat from them about 10 years ago. Yes, WIndcrest is more expensive than others, but the high quality of care makes it worth it to me. I've never had to wait long; I was early for my appointment last week and they saw me right away. I appreciate them giving me options and taking the time to explain them, as well as the convenience of having food, toys, pill pockets, etc. right there if I need them. Also I very much appreciate the senior citizen discount!

Friendly caring staff and doctors. Reasonable pricing, top notch care.

I went there because my cockatiel was wheezing. They wanted $2,407.00 for the night an then possibly $799.85 each day there after. OK I love my bird but it in the end it is a pet. They are money hungry jerks. I would recommend going somewhere else. They really don't care about the animals in my opinion. It is probably because of the huge building they are in. I am going to go find a nice small vet.

Laura DiGuglielmo

DO NOT TAKE YOUR PETS HERE. At the very least, do not take exotics. It's taken me a while to write this review, because I was sincerely heart broken and traumatized from my experience. I called and asked if any vets had experience with rats. They said yes. When I got there they doctor had very little knowledge. She even went as far as telling me I shouldn' have them because they don't live long, ale to get a guinea pig instead. My rat had mites, but they overdosed her and she died. They put an ENTIRE tube of revolution on a small female rat. I got upset right away since I know the normal dose is one drop. She said it was fine. Well, it wasn't fine. I wish I remembered the doctors name. My 4yr old daughter was heartbroken.

James Kerwood

went there a few times, felt like I rushed in an out. told them I thought my dog had a seizure and they said 2k starting price, new vet I see middle town vet hospital said 150 to 300. blood work $250 there, new vet $30 and 20 min wait for results. 2nd was cat my dad took from me, was put on special diet which gaustones ran 500$ few month later cat sick again, tumor couldnt miss on the chest... 500$. They didnt see the tumor that was massive..500 for nothing, cat moaning in pain for 2 more days and died. when he died, they told my dad $150 to try to save him. 15 min of CPR. Another 500 dollar bill then 300$ more for cremation. should of been free after ripping my dad off for 1k. Less then 30 min with the cat, no meds, no help and him suffering. Price wise, dealing with a new vet, patient care and time... like a lot of Dr. I feel there about the money and not the care of the animal. I know there a business and Dr.'s but a complete rip off. All they want is $$$ wish I would of found vet I use now b4 my old cat suffered. My new vet is 50 min drive but we'll worth it

Awesome staff - from the reception area, to the vet assistant, to the doctors- everyone was so kind and went out of their way to make sure my bird got everything she needed to help her recover and they made sure I knew how to care for her during recovery! I can’t say enough positive things about everyone involved in our visit today - they all made it much less stressful for me and my hen!!

We have been to Windcrest three times now for the care of our now 15 week old female german shepherd pup, Rihanna. The staff have been tremendous each time, helping us to feel welcome and supporting us in all aspects of puppy ownership. The technicians and doctors have provided helpful insight into solving and preventing behavioral problems at home. We've been customers of Windcrest for a long time and for many beloved cats and dogs. It is great to have such a caring and skilled facility close by.

This is more a review for Dr. Bell than the place because we have used it only once so our experience is fairly limited but wanted to share our experience with Dr. Bell. Dr. Bell is AWESOME, no wonder it's hard to get a hold of her. Whenever we did get a hold of her, she made it clear that she was not in a rush and answered all our questions, even on the phone. She does an excellent job examining cats and explaining possible options for the cure. We adopted two cats and one of them had a difficult time transitioning to his new home and was peeing outside the litter. She told us that he had an inflamed bladder due to stress and told us we would have to put him on UTI diet which we did and so far so good. She didn't push the prescription diet from the place and told us that off the shelf products should be fine. However, they are more expensive than other places, especially if you compare them to some in Philly.

I lost my fur baby Bella on Thursday October 25th. On Monday the 22 Bella chocked on a piece of Chicken and threw up foam non stop from that moment on. We rushed her to Wincrest Animal Hospital where we explained what happened they gave her a shot to stop the vomiting and fluid under her skin and sent us home. She continued to throw up we took her back explaining that she has a piece of chicken stuck in her throat. Bella was admitted to the hospital next morning there was no change by Thursday they decided to scope her throat to dislodged the piece of chicken I said all along was in her throat!!! By Thursday night we found out that her esophagus was damaged and no longer working. Food goes down but comes back out. She would never get better!!! We had to let her go .. The other wonderful thing that Wincrest Animal Hospital did was because we were label an emergency charged us more for all procedures they did. They told us x-rays are $185 the tech came back in and said sorry wrong price we're an emergency they would be $255. Not sure how much thry care about pets or just money. Anger, Frustration, Sadness and Brokenhearted I miss my little fur Baby Bella!!!

Had a great experience bringing in my pet rat Theodore for a myco flair up & diarrhea issue. Made an appointment earlier in the morning and they were able to see me later that day. Was originally supposed to see Dr. Haviland but Dr. Revay ended up helping me out and she was great!! I thought my vet bill was going to be more then it actually was. (Had been previously for a rat with pneumonia and needed an emergency visit, but they wanted $1,300 to keep him in ICU plus $300 every night after. Was way too much. ) She was very knowledgable and you could tell she loved animals. It’s nice to know a hospital around here sees exotics - my main vet was on vacation and this is where he sent me. Docked a star for arriving 10 minutes early and ended up waiting 20 past my appointment, but I assumed it was because Dr. Haviland was running behind so that’s when Dr. Revay stepped in. Would definitely cone back here again to see Dr. Revay! Theodore says thank you!

Absolutely fantastic doctors and techs. Unfortunately I had to put my 3 month old puppy down due to a sickness that had a extremely low chance of survival. But through all that the doctors and tech were understanding and gave me as much time as I needed with my dog before I had to let them take him. They were very helpful with information and also very understanding of me having to say goodbye. I received a hand writing letter a few days after that meant a lot as well. Would recommend to anyone who cares for their pets.

I had to rush my Precious Pet Rat(named) Pow there on a Sunday. He had a respiratory illness and was most likely going to die had they not have seen him. So , for saving his PRECIOUS Life, I give them 5 Stars. They were awesome from the moment I walked in the door, taking Pow immediately and giving him oxygen. The only reason I rated them with 4 stars is because, I had to call them when i got back home bc I was having trouble getting Pow to take his medicine(he was literally fighting me tooth and nails not to take it) so I called back desperately in need of the Vet or a technician to tell me the BEST way or a technique that I could do to get the proper dosage that he vitally needs in his mouth , because I had already wasted 2 doses(and I explained that to them) trying to get him to take his meds. So, long story short, they "Promised" me that the Vet would call me back as soon as she could that day,it just might take an hour or more, bc they had a couple other emergencies they had to attend to. That in itself made me feel like, we were not that important, especially when the Vet NEVER called me back. I FULLY understand, as an animal lover that other emergencies did arise for them, but I had an emergency too, and even if I would have received a call 4-8 hours later, it would have made a world of a difference in my experience there. Each animal emergency, each paying customer, deserves to be called back if they say they will do so.

Very gentle and quiet with my rabbit during her wellness exam. The vet clearly understood rabbits as a species and used delicate, purposeful movements with her so that she wouldn't startle. She's a big, 8lb girl, and doesn't like being held (like most rabbits), but she seemed to relax in their arms. I would definitely come back if they were closer to where I'm living now!!!!

Last night I witnessed a cat being ran over. I was in the middle of working a shift and no one else even thought to help the cat. So I grabbed the cat and just wanted to get it to a hospital. It was late and this place was the closet place to me. As I arrived the tech came out to tell me that the dr was in surgery. You would think a animal hospital would at least care a little to look at the cat. I told them I had to get back to work and the cat was going to die. Another nurse came out and told me the same thing without even looking at the cat. How can you pride yourself on saving animals when you don’t even look at the cat. I was horrified and I had to work so I left the cat there. At least he was in an animal hospital. Even if they wanted me to take him some where else they could have at least looked at the cat or something. It’s ridiculous that businesses claim to have a mission to help yet a hurt animal is right there and you do nothing. Unbelievable. I only pray that the animal was saved. Protocol should be to at least act like you care. Conceding the reply: Glad to know that you let a poor little kitten die over money wow your a great company.... based off of your other reviews I can see that your only in it for money not to save animals.... PEOPLE NEVER BRING YOUR ANIMALS HERE

DO NOT TAKE UR BELOVED FURBABIES HERE! My poor cat is here dying after having surgery! He had surgery 2 wks ago, Windcrest said he had Kidney Stones, even though his lab work didn't suggest it. The report says he had "grit" in his urethra. I was only approved for $1,500 from Care Credit, and of course after everything was said and done, the total exceeded that amount, which is RIDICULOUS! I begged if they could please bill me the remainder and it was thankfully approved. But that tune changed when I went to go pick him up. The young gal at the front desk was rude, didn't even greet my daughter and I w/ a smile and when she told us about the total due, I informed her that that portion was being billed. She said "well, we don't do that", I informed her I got approved for payments on the amount left over, which is $191. Now, today I call and they won't see him until that amount is paid off and whatever the fee is for bringing him in needs to be paid. I can't afford to pay anything today and pleaded if they could have a lil compassion and add it to my bill. I was nice at first and placed on hold, someone else came on the phone and was condescending and so I got pissed. Rightfully pissed. What ever happened to having a follow up appointment after surgery? All they did was call. So, now I have to explain to my children as to why their precious cat has died. And the only thing I can say is "its a sad world, people run on money, no compassion, just greed". Where are all the Dr. Pol's of the world?

Only reason I'm giving this place a 2 is because of like two people; otherwise, I'd give it a zero. I usually see the same vet, since very few specializes in exotics. Towards the end of my 12 yo rabbit's life, his body started to fail him, and I brought him in to the ER. My rabbit refused to eat, so the tech called me knowing that I make homemade treats for him. When I brought them in, the ER doc spoke with me and asked me what his diet is like. He doesn't eat hay, which I provide plenty of and in different variations. The ER doc gave me an attitude, saying she's surprised he lasted so long. During his first night stay, I received a call from the ER vet saying that they tried to insert an IV in him but he screamed and they thought he wouldn't make it through the night. On his third day, as I was about to leave from my visit, my rabbit screamed for me. I don't know what they were doing to him, but he was clearly traumatized, because I have never heard him scream in the 12 years I've had him. I quickly discharged him against doctor's orders. The tech gave me supplies for administering sub-Q's, but without a demo just a curt explanation, so I had to YouTube it upon returning home. I brought him to a new vet with all his paperwork and Xrays. Upon viewing the Xray, my new vet told me my rabbit had fractured his spine, which I had no idea about, because Windcrest was only looking for one thing. He ended up needing dental work, which cost me about $200 vs Windcrest's $500-$900, and the new place gassed him prior to inserting an IV to avoid stressing him at his age.

Our Border Collie had issues a week ago. He threw up, stop eating and became very lethargic. Took him to Banfield first. That vet said he had severe liver issue. Didnt know if cancer or toxicity or...? When we arrived to get Charlie, the receptionist coldly asked, "Do you want to take him elsewhere or schedule an appointment to put him to sleep?". WTH?!?! Banfield was rude, not cheap and very uncaring. We decided to get a second opinion from Wincrest. The vet there received trst results before seeing our dogger. She was expecting to see a dog on his death bed, requiring hospitalization. Charlie was active and alert. After many tests, it was confirmed that he does have liver issues but, the Doc wanted to attack some of the potential causes. He is on a regiment of meds now. His bad case of jaundice is much better. The doc said, "Charlie looks good for a yellow dog" lol. He is eating. He is pooping. He is energetic. There still might be serious issues w a bad outcome. But, the people at Windcrest really seemed to care. Nancy was the assistant or nurse that helped. We cant say enough great things about her. She was on the floor w Charlie, helping him to take meds, eat a little food and getting kisses. What a wonderful person! Id like to give kudos to doc as well, but cant recall her name. They are not the cheapest....but, a little extra money for hope and more time with your 4 legged family member is worth it.

In writing a review I did not want to boast on my personal experiences because there is almost always an emotional attachment to your words. I would rather give a personal observation. To many of us animals become part of the nuclear family and there is nothing we would not do for our family members. Sometimes emotions become entangled in purse strings and resentments are formed and in our minds comparisons are set to human cost. I wanted to look at the reviews as a complete picture to what was being written by others. Sometimes the wisest words come from the minds of the least expected. I have a quote that covers the experience you will receive at Windcrest Animal Hospital. "“You can judge a man's true character by the way he treats his fellow animals.” a quote by Paul McCartney. This is the big picture neither the price nor any plan to lure you in...... there is a compassion that people miss when choosing a veterinarian. This compassion goes beyond anything that is imaginable because the people that become DVM's or Techs have a deep love for animals. Furthermore animal medicine is a bit more complicated because the patient cannot speak. Someone must speak for them. This is what I searched for from almost a two hour drive stretching into Maryland and through Delaware. I found very capable Vets for dogs, cats and cattle but none for exotics. Windcrest Animal Hospital is a compassionate well staffed establishment for the service of veterinarian medicines. Compassion goes hand and hand with empathy and the doctors and staff share your loves and loss in the lives of your pets. Windcrest Animal Hospital was the answer the only place that could take care of my pets. I had been to seven different vets none had the compassion for (particularly in general) my breed of animal. As for office visits the prices are the same in comparison and lower than most. If you have issues with prices I can suggest that you indulge your pet in health insurance through one of the many underwriters available. I did because compassion for my pets is greater than the cost to make them healthy. The staff is a delight as they make you welcome and the waiting time is very short, by the way coffee and tea is available to you as you wait. Anytime you call your calls are returned within a reasonable length of time, with an answer to your concern. I can call today and have an appointment in the AM no problem. I would further recommend and suggest you take your special pet to Windcrest Animal Hospital all their needs including boarding. My own experiences have been bringing my boys to Dr. Anthony Dallatore who I trust whole heartedly and who has all the traits mentioned in this review. My boys are Rats …..literally real rats. “Such short little lives our pets have to spend with us, and they spend most of it waiting for us to come home each day. It is amazing how much love and laughter they bring into our lives and even how much closer we become with each other because of them.” John Grogan, Marley and Me: Life and Love With the World's Worst Dog

I have a bunny who I took here. It's an amazing building and the staff I dealt with we're very nice. But to even have my rabbit seen was $72.00. Which is outrageous. Then I find out my rabbit needs to have his teeth filed. (Commen in rabbits) and the doctor I saw said it was a simple procedure and went through it with me. Then the nurse came in after he left to give me the prices. They want over $1400.00 to file my rabbits teeth. A $150 dollar procedure else where. I loved the vet who helped. But that price is outrageous and makes me question their motives.

I brought my 8 month old puppy in for excessive gagging at 12am, thinking it was nothing and maybe she just needed some anti-nausea meds. They did an exam and quickly identified she was bloating and had her in surgery less than an hour later. They kept me updated several times a day while she was in recovery. I knew she was in good hands there. Thank you Dr. Dawkins and every wonderful staff member I met this weekend for your quick attention to this matter and saving my puppy!

When the accident happened, I felt sure that my chinchilla was going to die. Being such a small, fragile little animal, it wouldn't take much to fatally hurt her. I was crying and screaming, and we were all in absolute uproar trying to figure out what to do. My mother looked up the nearest 24 hour vet, and Windcrest appeared. Truthfully, I was barely paying attention to where we were headed; I was the one in the backseat, frantically stroking my poor little girl so that she wouldn't fall asleep. She could barely move the right half of her body. When the accident happened, she had apparently hit her head. I didn't really see it, but I knew something was wrong immediately because she wasn't hopping away like usual, and she was letting me hold her. So we drove to Windcrest Animal Hospital, and we were there for about an hour. The doctor came in and explained that she had inflammation around her spinal cord, and that they wanted to keep her over night. When we went home, all I was thinking about was how she was most likely going to die. There really wasn't a dry eye in our house. I had to take Tylenol pm to finally get to sleep. The next day wasn't much better. My friend and I resorted to watching Maury Povitch, because it was the only thing that was outrageous and stupid enough to distract us for a few minutes. Still, every time I thought about her, my heart sank further. But then, the doctor called. She would need antibiotics for the next five days, no jumping, and everything had to be taken out her cage aside from her house, food, water, and wood chews, but she was going to be OK, and we could bring her home. It was the relief of my seventeen year old life. I am so grateful to the doctors at Windcrest, and I am so happy that we found them. I feel sure that she would have died without their care. Not only did I walk out that Monday with a healthy chinchilla, but I also walked out knowing I had found a suitable vet to go to when I move to Delaware. You see, I have a dog too, and they take care of both exotics AND regular animals. This type of vet is so hard to find. The care is great, their set up is really nice, and its just an overall great place to take your pets. I very much recommend it.
