My fur baby had intestinal infection . she was very lethargic very ill she would only drink water and not eat. They gave us an estimate $1100 and said if we couldn't pay that day we could bring her back when we get the full 1100. I asked if we could pay 500 and make payment arrangements she said no . so we had to go to get a loan and if we went able then our bae bae would have died the lady Dr their is very heart less and because we are black I feel she didn't care about what she is in business to do and that's to save our fur baby life. I would never recommend this place and they are outrageously expensive. I would hate see what Dr would turn human away if they couldn't pay the day they became very ill.

I think the staff at this animal hospital needs some serious customer service training. The people at the front desk are rude, do not smile, have no idea that the reason they have jobs is because people come to them with their pets to have them cared for. If I heard any of my staff ever speak or behave they way they do with customers there would be serious counseling, written warnings, and who knows if that would deter this bunch. I am extremely dissatisfied with the people at this hospital. If you do not like you job find another one. People need to feel their pets are in good kind and loving hands not rude, nasty, extrememly unhappy people. I give you zero stars...

I dropped my dog off on Tuesday morning to have a procedure to tie back what was diagnosed as a larynx paralysis. This was supposed to be a routine procedure. I get a call midday that he was having a problem breathing when trying to bring him off anesthesia. Dr. Wanted to do a tracheotomy on him. I asked if I could come up and try to calm him while he wakes up and they said that would be fine and it worked. After I sat with him a few hours he was breathing fine and released with instructions for his care. All seemed well then at 9 that evening he couldn’t breathe. I carried him towards the car to try to get him to a 24 hour vet ER but he basically suffocated in my arms in the driveway. I dropped off a happy and basically healthy best friend that morning and he was dead that evening. From the research I have done since , this is a routine procedure with a high success rate and the most likely cause of this was “suture failure” from a botched tie back. I wish I had never had this done at this facility as my best friend would still be alive today. Please reconsider this place if you are having surgery done on your pet. I feel terrible for having this done to my dog.

We got a new puppy that came down with Parvovirus a few days after getting it home. Dr Adkins and the staff at Haven Lake were truly amazing and due to their efforts Harley has recovered and will be with us for a long time.

Took my dog there 2 years ago to get a tummor checked and got advice from one of the vets. 2 weeks ago took her back for the same tummor that had grown. Needless to say today i got yelled at from dr francis telling me i should have taken care of this years ago and was rude to not only me but my mother also. This lady is the worst people person. She didnt even want to explain this in full to me and also didnt offer up any other way to handle my dog who is 11 and apparently not in good health. This lady was so ignorant that i will be telling everyone to not uae this place.

Horrible place with a bad attitude. Especially Dr. Atkins(Adkins?). I have been berated for not being a millionaire with unlimited funds for my dogs chronic care issue. We totally adjust our lifestyle to care for our animal( all my animals have had health care from day one) and live better than some people. Every trip to this vet had been akin to being in grade school and scolded like a child if I have to miss an appointment for work or payday. Any input from us is frowned upon. No compassion at all. Beware all, go elsewhere where some level of compassion for human and animal is employed.

We cannot express the gratitude and the caring that the doctors at Haven lake take in the care for our children/pets. Dr. Adkins is more then just our vet...she is their second Mother. And the rest of the staff look after them as their siblings. They are truly our extended family. Thank all of you at Haven Lake... without you we would be pet less!

Nocturnal Nurse

Thank you Dr. Adkins & staff for always being so kind and loving to my critters. Thank you for staying open during a blizzard today to help Honeybadger cross over the Rainbow Bridge.

I have my two bassets -one 9 and the other almost 5 -that are cared for by the Haven Lake staff. Both with extensive allergy issues. Haven Lake has been wonderful in their care with both preventative and same-day appts. They are very knowledgeable. Only time I have had to wait was same day appts and not for long. They are the only vets to take care of my boys so cannot attest to how expensive they are over other vets locally.

I took my AKC West `Highland white Terrier, whom l had paid $800.00 for stud service in South Carolina, for her same vet just to check her out { it had been 5 weeks }. She most defiantly had 2 small little bumps, that u could feel in lower quadrant { l am a RN } and holding my stethoscope there I thought I heard a tiny heartbeat. Her vet stated that she doubted I heard a heartbeat. I have raised 6 litters of Westies previously along with my husband. Since I would be doing this totally alone, now, l asked a few pertinent questions. She stated very abruptly "look on the internet". Then her assistant and her went in the back with my dog and gave her a rabies shot, unknown to my knowledge until they brought my dog back into the room. Consequently she lost her puppies and she had been bred 2 separate days and as definitely having puppies. I even wrote a letter to Dr who runs this so called hospital with not even a reply from him. She murdered my puppies; too bad vets can not be held liable. ……..I have delivered babies but cant deliver puppies? Make suee if u go here with your pregnant dam, do not ask one question!!!!

I moved to the area December, 2012 and since that time Lake Haven has been taking care of my 18 year old cat. On October 25th he would have been 19 years old. I had to put him down today and they were very compassionate, caring and professional during the process. Thank you for the care and the service that you rendered to my cat, "Kitty" during the last three years. Lake Haven is a superb Animal Hospital with a superb and professional staff. Love and Blessings to you!

We originally had an appointment on Friday for our dog. However, on Tuesday night, he got much worse, so we called first thing Wednesday. They made room for us that morning. Dr. Coon was very nice, calming, and explained everything to us in an easy to understand manner. The visit, including meds, was even less expensive than I was anticipating. Thank you Haven Lake staff.

Jennifer Petusky

Dr. Adkins is amazing.

I switched from a different vets office to this one for my three cats. The office is very professional and well kept. The staff are friendly and the nurses and drs do a great job answering my questions and taking care of my cats. The only drawback is that I usually have to wait at least half an hour past my appointment time to be seen, once I had to wait and hour and a week ago I waited 40 minutes.

Took my dog there had excellent care

I take my 2 small dogs here and have had excellent service. I unfortunately lost a close friend's dog while he was visiting and Haven Lake helped me with those arrangements without a problem, even though that pet was not a "patient" there. Professional staff and competent vets.

Robert Addonizio

Haven Lake is one of the most caring Vets around... Saved my Labs life and gave me 8 more years with him. The best Vet hands down!!!!!

Julie Kay

My dogs ingested a lot of ibuprofen. I called when I was on my way to Haven Lake. They took them immediately in. My pups had to stay for almost 3 days. They seem to be caring, all the staff. I don't know how many doctors they have but the 4 I encountered, Dr. Coons, Holmes, Adkins and Titus were very good.

Jennifer Petusky

Dr. Adkins is amazing.

Haven Lake is likely the most expensive vet around. In general, you get good quality, so you're getting what you pay for, but they charge more for the same routine services as other local veterinarians. By biggest pet peeve with Haven Lake is that, while getting an appointment is fairly easy due to their ample staff, after being checked in (usually on time) you wait on average a half hour to forty-five minutes for the vet to come in.

In December 2017, I brought my cat to Haven Lake because she was not eating or drinking. She had lost a lot of weight. She made a funny noise, when she tried to eat. She was there for several days. They took x-rays ( or so they said ), they charged me for them and they forced fed her. When I picked her up after a few days, they said she had several bad teeth, that could be causing a problem They wanted to do extensive tests to see if she had cancer, I had already spent over &1000 for 2 and 1/2 days of care and I said no. They sent me home with her and the tools to force feed her, along with some medicine, one being an appetite stimulant. I did this for a week. She wanted to eat, she was starving, but still could not eat. I called to make an appt to extract her a tooth. They gave me a date and I dropped her off. After 5 minutes I received a phone call from Haven Lake and they said that she was too weak to have the surgery. They had seen her twice and knew that she was too week, so why did they take her to begin with. The next day, I took her to another veterinarian, who by feeling around her neck that she had a growth, that was slowly slowly closing her esophagus and windpipe. Nothing could be done, so I had to put her to sleep. What I am so upset about is if they actually did those x-rays, they would have seen it, but mostly is that they prescribed an appetite stimulant for her, which made her extremely hungry, but she could not swallow the food. She suffered terribly for a week until I took her to another vet, who diagnosed her issue immediately. I will never, never take another pet to Haven Lake. Last but not least, the other vet said that her teeth were not the problem. Hope this helps.

Before I switched to Haven Lake Animal Hospital 9 years ago, I had been hearing so many wonderful things about the staff, particularly Dr. Audrey Adkins. From the first day I walked in the hospital, I have been treated with extreme compassion and kindness. The doctors, technicians, and staff are all helpful and knowledgeable. Dr. Coon has done two ACL surgeries for my boy and his recovery was wonderful. They have a state of the art rehabilitation center, laser therapy, I-131 therapy treatment for cats, along with the standard wellness visits and vaccinations. I trust them for all my dogs and cats. Try them out, you will be happy you did.

Rescue pup in extreme physical distress and family vet could not see her. Emergency clinics not open yet. Called Haven and they let me bring her right in. When we arrived, a vet tech (I wish I could remember her name as she did such a good job) came out immediately and checked her (Thankfully, she had improved since the call) to see if they should take her in right away. We waited while they could work her in. I’ve had dogs, cats, horses all my life and seen many vets— you can tell when you have one that really cares. Both the tech and Dr Holmes were just outstanding, spent a great deal of time explaining possible causes and outcomes. The follow up after was excellent. Vet called the next day and left a message, which I did not return as I was away at meetings. She called a second time. Again, thorough in explaining options and choices for care. We will definitely consider changing veterinarians for all our pets if the other docs are as competent and caring.

Haven Lake Animal Hospital has been taking care of my Brandy for 13 years. They did her puppy care, her routine shots, helped her through injuries that happened while she was hunting and showing and trialing in Agility and obedience, and now they are giving her care in her elder years, as he kidneys are failing.

Derek Shrubs

Very professional. All the staff was kind and compassionate to my pet. I travel almost 50 miles one way to get there.

My experience is a group(docs, techs, desk folk) who care about animals. Animals are loved here is the difference. Been to vets where money is over-riding factor, simply put; they care about your fur baby. Desk ladies are helpful and proficient.Techs knowledgeable and hands-on animal care; the caring shows. Docs provide emergent as well as standard care w your family members well-being first. As it should be.

i called and made an appointment with my hedgehog. they said they love seeing hedgehogs and asked me age name color and set up an appointment, just to get a call on the day-of and say they don’t see hedgehogs. very unprofessional and they wasted my time.

No one has ever showed us the love and care this place has for our babies. Will never go anywhere else

Angela Marie

When I tried refusing an unnecessary medication for my dog, the nurse and doctor said it was part of her treatment, which was false. Tried calling to speak to the head of the Hospital, could not get them on the phone. Did not appreciate the experience or treatment at all.

I have been going to Haven Lake for years. The staff is friendly, courteous, professional, and fun! Everyone cares so much! I will never go anywhere else! With all the state of the art technology they can perform almost any service needed right in house! This practice is definitely a combination of heart and technology! I trust them with the lives of my loves!

Ilana Smith

Entire staff was compassionate and friendly. They went above and beyond with their service.

I will not bring my dogs back here again. 30 mins after my appointment time they decide de to show up. This is unacceptable maybe I should show up 30 mins late I have things I want to do and sitting there waiting for service isn’t one of them. I will be looking for an alternative. I recommend you do the same vets are nothing but used car salesmen and the cost of care is ridiculous.

Stacey Wilkinson

Love love LOVE this office! They treat my animals as if they were their own. ❤

I have been going to Haven Lake Animal Hospital for over 10 years now...my first encounter with them especially Dr. Francis was when a large dog came on our property and attacked one of my two miniature schnauzer's...they took her right in as an emergency patient and saved her life., she is now almost 26 years old..... Through the years both my schnauzer's were seen there and only there... Unfortunately my little Shotzie who was 11, got so ill that we had to put her to sleep last August..They were very compassionate with me and gave me all the time I needed to be with her...I wanted her cremated and they handled all the necessary paperwork...It made losing Shotzie bearable...I have since rescued a little bishon/poodle mix and he now goes to Haven for all my pet needs.. Thank you Haven Lake and staff for being there for me in both my times of need... And if I have to sit a little longer so they can help another animal in an emergency situation.... I am more than willing to...

They are money hungry , not even slightly helpful, rude, and in my opinion a disgrace to anyone who loves their animals and tries to do right by them. Worst. Vet. Experience. EVER.

Inquired to set up an appointment for my puppy and never got a response. I called in one morning because my puppy was throwing up, they told me they couldnt accept any walk ins. Definitely wont be recommending this place to people.

Patrick Liebel

Very disappointed in the professionalism at Haven Lake. They were too caught up in trying to sell me a flea collar over topical medicine to listen to what I had to say. The vet (Dr. Francis) did not give our dog either booster shot she was due and instead wanted to sell Sentinel and the Seresto collar. Our first flag should have been that when we made the appt. after the tech asked our dog's breed (Great Pyrenees) she asked what color she was. Then when we decided that it was time to switch vets they couldn't produce our dog's records in a timely fashion saying that it would take a day or longer to find them. I would NOT recommend this vet to family and friends. 2 stars rather than 1 because they were nice to my dog at least.

Ty Bridges

There realaxing an comfortable people to be around.

ShimiOhG

Terrible at handling a simple cat and vet couldn't accept that she might be wrong. Her assistant was practically choking the cat to hold him down after grabbing one of his legs to get him out of the cat carrier, when this didn't work they literally tried to dump the cat onto the table by holding the carrier upside down. Let me also clarify that that cat had to be held down because they kept irritating him. We brought this animal in the be put down because his entire body was covered in scabs. They knew that these were his last moments, but they decided to cover him in a town and hold him down, irritating his body. These were the worst vets I have ever seen in my life.

I’m a 3 husky owner. This is the only vet my dogs ever been to, I use to lived in Harrington, then I moved to Dover, there is hospital 5 mins always from where I live now but still I only go heaven lake.i think most people work there knows me and my dogs. Spend over $2000 for 3 of my boys neuter, I know their price is higher but I thought that is a lovely place and I trusted the people there so don’t mind to pay extra. I have a neighbor cross street of my house who has a 2 yrs old pit bull. The poor dog never been take care good, It bothers me a lot when I see animal in need or need help, talked with neighbor before so he allowed me to take care of the boy like take him to wash or take him out for walk stuff like that, I found out there are blood inside his ears and he is too strong I couldn’t get check or clean by myself. So I called trying to bring him in see if we can help him feel better. But the lady on the phone answer me at the first time said it’s ok I can bring him in just give a call to make appointment, after I got the owners permission I called to make appointment. I was told that’s I can not bring him in without the owner go with me. There is no way I can ask the owner to go there. If he could. He will not let the poor dog stay at the way for so long. I asked to speak with the manager. I explain to her the situation. I totally understand the position the hospital at that they afriad to take responsibility if something happen. I totally understand, but I want to help just a check nothing seriously so I ask the manager please, please, she give me a very cool answer. “ I can’t circle this with you all the time like this “. ~~”I won’t let my docs touch the dog without the owner here” ~~~~ ” well, manager. Thank you very much for your time to talk to me on the phone, sorry to bother you for like 5 mins maybe. And don’t worry about it Dover animal hospital took care the pit bull,( well I don’t think you worry about it at all ) and U won’t be bother by me anymore cuz I’m not going there again. Have a nice day.
