Absolute WORST facility I've ever been to. First off we waited an hour and 45 minutes for the "doctor" to come in. She was too busy doing notes to pay attention to the living animal that was right in the room next door. All this doctor did was touch my dogs stomach and said well I guess we need an x ray, fluids, special diet, this that and the other. She never explained anything to us or took any of the information we shared into consideration. This place is money greedy and I am ashamed at myself for even paying them their ridiculous prices . Also, the woman receptionist was very rude. I will NEVER come back to this facility. Oh and don't forget the a patients information, address, dogs picture, and any other contact information was left on the screen in our room. Patient privacy people!

This place is a corporation and all about the money they don't have compassion at all for the animals!!!! Brought a dog in having a seizure and the techs nor the doctors would even take him to triage before the papers were filled out and deposit was taken.... will never be back

This hospital is just money hungry. My family and I brought in my pregnant dog who ended up passing unfortunately because they wanted their money upfront. They also left us for excruciating hours waiting with no one at the desk for news on our dog until 2 am. All we ever got was “your dog is fine,” and she wasn’t. We were ordered to bring her home after they gave her medicine to contract more and soon she just gave out. All they talked about was “estimates” on prices for surgery and nothing about my beautiful baby, or her puppies. They just take advantage. And it’s even worse to read the same about a woman who brought her dog that was in labor here and her dog ended up passing because of these greedy, incompetent vets. Don’t bring your pets here. Waste of money, time and heartbreak.

Despite what other people have said, I had nothing but a positive experience here. I was impressed with how helpful the staff was, even on a Sunday afternoon. I will definitely be back if I have any problems in the future. I was amazed with how quickly we were seen and how much hands on experience we had with the staff. They were very accommodating. The level of care shown was impressive. They handled everything professionally and kept us informed the whole time, taking calls whenever we wanted to hear an update. This animal hospital is on par with most, and sometimes better than hospitals for people.

I wanted to let others know how truly amazing this team at VCA in Cheshire is. I rushed my dog there last night after ripping his sutures open and the wound was bleeding profusely. I was absolutely freaked out and didn’t know what to do so I immediately brought him to the VCA in Cheshire. The girl and the guy at the front desk were so sweet and took us right in. The tech was SO calming and made my dog and myself feel extremely comfortable throughout the entire situation (I wish I knew your name!). She even just sat with us for a few minutes while we were waiting to be seen by the doctor. Then the doctor came in and she was also extremely pleasant and extremely thorough with what was happening and what her recommendations were. I felt like my dog got the best care possible and I would not hesitate to return to this office. The team there seems like they truly care about their patients and are very pleasant to deal with. Unfortunately my dog needs surgery and I will be meeting with the surgeon, Dr. Stern, next week (who I’ve heard great things about). Even though this is a difficult time for my family right now with my dog becoming ill, the team at VCA is making it easier to deal with. I greatly appreciate everything they’ve done. They were not only kind to my dog and I, but I saw the team show their kindness and compassion to everyone that walked through the door that night.

This place is the absolute best! My little doggie had a 25% chance to live, and the vets, techs, everyone who worked that night made SURE my little Ava was in the best care possible. I can’t thank you enough and scream from the roofs how amazing you all are! I’m so blessed that you all in some way saved my fur baby- I am forever grateful for you all!

Since we moved to Naugatuck in June 2016, we've made... Seven? Eight? Trips here? EVERY time we come here, what ever the cause, we consistently receive high-caliber, compassionate and considerate care from the staff. Although we'd prefer NOT to have to come here, there's no emergency medical facility for pets we'd rather go to. As a side-note, they're currently in the midst of a pretty large-scale expansion and renovation. However, this has not impacted on the quality of care they provide for all who walk through their door.

I very rarely, if ever, write reviews. However after visiting VCA Cheshire earlier today, I feel the need to share the details of our experience with others. VCA Cheshire was wonderful in caring for our beloved dog Memphis. My husband and I, along with our 2 year old son, brought her in at 3 am this morning because she was in bad shape. They were able to see her right away and quickly assessed her condition. She was in a lot of pain, scared and confused and they were able to calm her and make her as comfortable as possible. Dr. Krein explained her condition to us with the utmost compassion and sympathy. This was our first time meeting her but we could tell that she has a genuine love of animals and empathy for the families she helps. Unfortunately, we had to make the decision to put Memphis to sleep. Saying goodbye to a pet is never easy but the staff made it as easy as they possibly could for us. I did not have pets growing up so this experience was a first for me. They carefully explained all of our options, explained to us what would happen, gave us time alone to say goodbye, and again explained the process to us as it was happening. Thank you so much to Dr. Avery Krein, Julia, and all other staff members that helped us this morning. We will be forever grateful for the care our best friend Memphis received during her last few hours.

June 14, 2017 I bought my cat over to the emergency vet because he got hit by a car. He had trauma mostly on his face and instand telling me the truth. They gave me three option expensive way with x-ray all this stuff,(which is a lot of money not guaranteed ), he is alert and walks around take the medicine, or put him down. After paying 400$ , not even 20 minutes Go by , I have to go back and put him down because he was too bad in shape. Taking advantage of me in every way.

One of the hardest nights of my life . I left my baby girl daisy for a few hours she was fine when i got home that night she wasnt. If it wasnt for this hospital and the people willing to work there thou it must be so sad I dont know what i could have done the patients they see in the middle of the night are going to be the worst of worst yet the were kind and made me feel like they understood my pain.. unfortunately they couldnt help my baby but did help her go peaceable in my arms Thank you from the bottom of my broken heart

We have taken our dog to this vet twice since moving back to CT for emergency situations. Our dog was attacked while at doggie daycare and they were able to get him right in and take care of his injuries. We were so thankful because we were new to the area. They were absolutely wonderful with working with us and the daycare to work out the payment. The second time we took our dog there, it was because he had a tick that we could not remove no matter how hard we tried. They took us right in with two technicians and got the tick out within 2 minutes. They didn't charge us either for removing the tick. We are so thankful for everything they have done so far since we moved here!

DON"T JOIN THE CARE CLUB BIGGEST RIP OFF EVER. I WATCHED A STAFF MEMBER THIS WEEKEND ROLL HER EYES AS PERSON WAS GRIEVING OVER THE LOSS OF THEIR PET...

About a year ago my kitten became ill, this was the only place I was able to get to in the middle of the night and I am so grateful I went here. They walked me through my options and supported me in ways they did not need to. I am forever grateful to the staff here and although I lost my kitten I'm so happy that he was well taken care of in his last moments. Thank you

My dog is a regular patient here. The routine care here is fine and I cannot say anything bad about that. I am a physician myself so I definitely know when people are sick and animals are not all that different. I knew my dog had something wrong with his stomach one night. I watched him for a while and he did not get better. It was a Friday evening. I finally took him to VCA around 9pm and the vet was sure he had "back pain" and wanted to send him home with pain meds. I asked what she would do if it were her dog and she said I can't say, I have no recommendations for you. Was naming many expensive tests. I thought he may have a stomach bug because he had had diarrhea before and asked if he can have something for that but she said not. I took him home with no treatment and the visit cost arond $90 for nothing. I took him home and he looked worse in the night so at 2am I was back. This time I asked if he could have a stomach x-ray because I was worried his bowel was obstructed. He was trying to poop but could not all night. We did this x-ray and then right after he had diarrhea in the lobby of the vet. Visit cost me another $400 that night on top of the $90 earlier. This particular vet was not good at all and I should have formally called and complained but I did not.

I went to this vet as an emergency as my dog had been vomiting throughout the day and seemed dehydrated. When I met with the vet, they proposed we have xrays done, bloodwork, IV fluids, and wanted to admit him overnight. The estimate was almost $3000! I asked if we could first give him some fluids as he was otherwise acting normal. They reluctantly gave him the fluids at my request...and my dog was bouncing around as he normally does. Fluids and an office visit still cost me $700. They are a VCA chain and care more about the money than the care of your pets. My dog was simply dehydrated! I will never use this vet again and highly recommend going to Rocky Hill Vet or Veterinary Specialists in West Hartford if you have an emergency.

Very difficult to get an appointment with a dr... usually have to wait 3 days before we get in. VCA is so very very business oriented so prepare to pay more for extra procedures and delays. I’ve even caught a few mistakes where I was overcharged and not apologized to... they seemed quite put out to have to correct it. I like some of the staff (and vet) as people, but the service for all my pets is more expensive than needs be, and sometimes they delay seeing us so the issue becomes more complex therefore more expensive. I’ve been coming here over a decade and I do believe it’s NOT the vets or staff but the management with the trickle down effect that makes this sh*t more $$. HIRE MORE DOCTORS AND TREAT THEM RIGHT!

Dena Werling

Usually I’d say I love this place because I had the best experience with my dog when she got sick, surgery and stayed for a week... but I was pet sitting 2 pits that got into a horrific fight, it was a bloody mess and they were hurt. We rushed them to Cheshire later at night, the dogs were responsive and could walk but desperately needed to be seen for cuts, bruises, and possible breaks with one. The younger female wasn’t that bad, she just needed to be checked out and cuts cleaned, she started the fight over shoveling snow. The older male was in bad shape tho, bleeding more, his front leg was most likely broken, and he was dizzy. I told them how bad the fight was and they were pretty messed up, probably worse then they looked, we cleaned off a lot of the blood before coming to the vets. They said they were going to look them over, clean them up, blood tests, and x-rays while they stayed the night, and unless they were worse, they could go home the next morning. After awhile, they were stable, so we went back to the house to clean up the mess and I had other obligations I had to get to the next day because that was supposed to be my last day pet sitting but I kept my phone on to hear any news from the owners. The dogs were sent home, which the female was fine, she ended up being okay and is completely healed now. But the male, later the next day or the day after, couldn’t walk at all. I’m not sure if they ever did the X-ray on his definitely broken leg but he ended up aspirating blood in his lungs and dying slowly until he was brought to the vet and put down... that dog should of never been sent home early the next morning. He needed to be watched because he was in horrible shape. They just didn’t want to deal with 2 pit bulls that just fought. The female was fine, they had every right to send her home, but the male died 100% because of them. He was in bad shape but I believe possibly saveable. I’m not a vet and obviously they never checked his insides so I don’t know how bad he really was, but they could of looked!! They could of either saved him or put him out of his misery sooner. NEVER going back to them again. Ever. I’m not usually one to bash a place but I loved that dog and he didn’t deserve that, he was a sweet boy, and the fight wasn’t even his fault, the female attacked him and he died and couldn’t even have been given the change to live.

Professional emergency care. Cost was explained and I was given options about how to proceed with the care.

Madalene Taggart

Cold corporate environment. All about money and not the animal. Unfortuneatly they were the only hospital in the area that does untrasounds on the belly. I will never return there. The desk staff was rude and dr keno is very uncaring..

BE PREPARED TO PAY TOP DOLLAR OR PUT YOUR PET DOWN. After my cat became ill in the middle of the night, our only option was to go to the nearest vet hospital as my regular vet was closed. My cat 7 year had a urinary block and I was give 3 options. 1 (the best option) to have him stay for 48 hours and they would insert a catheter and monitor him for $3400. 2 (not the best option--was told this could fail and I could end up in the same situation again) was to attempt to unblock him and give him meds and I would monitor him at home, for $1200. Final option, was to put him down. I was shocked as my cat was still purring and relatively young to suggest euthanizing him. After crying for an hour, as I was unsure of what to do--I didn't want to spend 1200 just to come back in a week with the same issue as suggested. Finally, they came back and offered me another solution for $250 to temporarily drain him and then see my vet in the morning. I went with this option. After seeing my vet, they explained various payment options (care credit, payment plans) that could have been an option. They also explained what was going on. I ended up bringing him to Mattatuck Animal Hospital in Waterbury. While they may not have a pretty office like the VCA--they actually care about their animals. The vet there told me that he would never suggest euthanizing him at this time. He stayed at their hospiatl for about a day (was supposed to be 2, but he recovered beautifully) and was given new prescription food (something the VCA also never mentioned), medication, and a happy healthy cat for just $350. WOW. My advice. RUN from this money hungry place. They will take advantage of your love for your pet to try to make a buck!

Terrible service from early morning staff. My dog was vomitting, diarrhea and very uncomfortable. They looked at me as if I should tell them what to do, when I was there looking for advice from them. I sensed the incompetence in the vet I dealt with and got out of there. Then I get home and find out the dog was dripping feces in the blankets he was wrapped in, which they failed to mention. Went to another vet and they omitted him overnight within 30 minutes I was there. Thanks for wasting my time, money, and painful experience to my puppy.

We rushed my kitten here for an accident resulting in head trauma. My boyfriend and I spent about 3 and half hours in the room with no one giving us any information. They then told us that they wanted to keep him for 48 hours to monitor. Due to the outrageous bill we said we would just take him home. The vet tech pretty much told us if we took him home we would die that night. The vet said he had a chance so we took him home and in only 3 days he has made amazing progress. The vet never explained anything they did while he was there either. Worst experience ever

I had to bring my cat Autumn there .It was an emergency, unfortunately Autumn didn't make it. But they did what was best for her. They were all great compassionate and they also washed all of her bedding for me when I went to go pick up her ashes. Was a very traumatic experience but overall I never felt so welcomed there. I will be bringing in my other kittens in.wouldnt want to go any where else. Thanks for all that you did for autumn, she's in a better place. Thank you Cynthia Howarth

The only reason I give them 1 star is because I can’t give them 0. Their lack of care for a wounded dog amazes me. We were turned away from an EMERGENCY ROOM for not being members of the practice. So even though they take on outside emergency cases we were not able to be treated. Luckily we were able to get into another ER in the area that actually cares about animals and knows how to do their job. If you care for your pets and want the best for them, do not go to this place , because they sure as hell do not.

Raider Nation

This place is horrible I took my cat there who had a possible fatal wound, and they took forever to even get to us, I was there for 2 hours and left, and the worst part is this place is super expensive if you have an emergency go somewhere else please

Jessica Donofrio

Had an excellent experience at VCA Cheshire today! I took my cat there for worms and some preventative shots. I was a little apprehensive going to a new vet and after reading some of the reviews online but both the tech and the doctor were very nice and gentle with my Cat. Dr. Suhie was very knowledgeable and kind. He answered all of our questions and provided excellent care to keep my Cat healthy. I will continue to bring my cat there and trust he is in good hands.

I would drive hours away to go to a different emergency vet. I went in on a Saturday night around 10:30. No other people were there, but the staff seemed very annoyed and not compassionate. The vet then was rough with my dog and gave us misguided information. Would never go back, my poor dog was suffering for a day until we got her to her primary vet.

Jeff Carter

This was the first time I brought my puppy here for a consoltation to see if I would like the location, staff and process. I don't know how this place is even still open to be completely honest. The staff for the most part were unpersonable, and unfriendly. We didn't feel as if they even gave a crap about our dog at all. When talking to the doctor I felt like I was talking to a car salesman, it's all about money with this place they could care less how it affects your animal in the aftermath they just want to charge you for a bunch of shots and procedures. Do yourself a favor and stay far away from Cheshire vet clinic.

Jenifer Sanford

Just like a human emergency room visit, expect to wait a while and get a pricey bill. That being said, the staff is friendly and knowledgeable. I've been here twice with my dog. Once, he ingested a foreign object and the last time he needed stitches. The doctors always err on the side of caution and will suggest any and all procedures to ensure the safety of your pet. Over the last 3 years with my dog I've learned that not everything needs a vet visit and not every procedure needs to be done. (i.e: We could do an x-ray to make sure, but he just ate so we might not see anything = hundreds of dollars to see nothing.) Bringing your pet in during an emergency is stressful! Keep a level head and ask important questions and decide for yourself what is an emergency and what might be able to wait for your regular vet visit.

Danielle Ackley

The staff at the front desk are unpleasent. They appeared to be irritated by the fact that my vet had sent us here to be seen. When we tried to explain what was going on with our dog, one of them kept cutting me off and basically telling me the information I was providing was inaccurate. The vet tech and vet who attended to my dog were grear; however I refuse to ever come back to thos hospital...I would rather drive and hour away than deal with the two women in reception.

D2toons Studio

Great staff, they treat your fur babies like there own. If you love your animals this is the best p place for them. If your kid had cancer you go to ST. Jude. If you pet needs a Vet...you go to VCA Chesire

We were recently referred to this hospital for surgery to our sons cat. On August 14th surgery was to be performed They requested money upfront before anything was done. I gave them 1500.00 in cash and the remainder in a bank check (approximately 2.000.00). The surgery went as well as could be expected. However, the Dr with our approval did not do as radical a procedure as she anticipated because the disease had spread. So in short the bill for service was less then what I had paid that SAME MORNING. I was told I had overpaid $700.00 dollars. I said fine as I waited at the desk for them to return the $700 dollars I had given them hours earlier Long story short it’s now September 19th and I am Still Waiting!! Excuse after Excuse after Excuse!! They actually told me they don’t give back cash a “Corporation Check will be sent to me”. I am now seeking legal advice as to how to proceed. My advise to all ... Be Wary of giving this Veternary Hospital any money upfront.

UPDATE (original post still at bottom, though) When VCA did a follow up phone call (interestingly, to my husband's cell phone, not mine) and my husband shared our frustrations, they had a "manager" (not sure that is the right word) contact us, and she listened to my whole situation. She agreed that there was definitely some concerns about how my cat was treated, and was truly apologetic. They did credit us over half of our expenses, too. I appreciate the fact that they remedied the situation, so I feel comfortable in giving them more stars, but it is still a concern that what I experienced happened in the first place, therefore I feel 3 stars is valid. I suppose, with any Emergency service, there is always a chance that things may not be handled ideally. As any true animal lover would agree, I hope that when a pet is brought in for emergency services, they are able to receive the help they need. I believe Cheshire VCA is able to do this, but they definitely have some areas of their routine procedures that need improvement. Original review: Brought my cat in for possible urinary blockage, and they didn’t even bother to realize that he had peed all over the towel in his cat carrier. Instead they pointed it out to me when they returned him in his carrier filled with pee soaked paper towels. (They couldn’t even bother to empty those out and allow him to travel home in a fresh carrier. I had to do it when I got home.) Clearly, he had no blockage, but they still conveniently recommended and charged me for a whole bunch of “tests” that took up 2.5 hours of my time. Then, they recommended a bunch of drugs for pain, when he clearly is in no pain. I told them I wanted my own doctor’s opinion and refused their discharge orders. If you go here, plan on wasting your time and money.

Afterer 2 hours at waiting with a 12 yr old golden retriever in very serious pain, they still had not seen her after waiting , in the room. The vet could be seen in another room for in a hour and a half, laughing, joking , and still no sign of her, moving on to anyone else. Not only us but another person as well walked out after 2 hours of a no show. We were there around 8:30 pm. We left. We figured 8:30 to 10:30 was absolutely ridiculous. Wheres the "emergency vet "? Sitting down petting a dog laughing and joking, ignoring the rest of us for 1 an a half hours and more. And the reception guy was snotty when i told him we were leaving, saying, "Well mame this is an emergency vet!" Ummm yaah, not busy!! We were not the only ones to leave...the guy who came in after us, was there for 2 hours as well, but was told by the receptionist that he was going to be seen first! Wait!!WHAT!WE WERE THERE FIRST!! NOPE dont take your dog or pet there in an emergency help from them will come too late for you..!

Worst experience. My 9 month older puppy was having troubles walking and didn't want to do anything but lay down. We took her here and suggested that we thought she had Lyme. She wouldn't put weight on front paw and her back legs were shaking. The vet brushed us off and suggested X-rays for her front paw thinking it was fractured. We declined the X-rays at about $300 and just took the prescriptions for the pain with us. The next day she was worse not eating or even getting up. We brought her to another vet and they were not only much more reasonable on price but listened to our concerns and tested her for Lyme. The test came back positive for Lyme and Another tick borne disease. She is finally on the right medication after waisting $200 on a visit and medicine. When I called to tell them she was getting worse they suggested I bring her to a regular vet then because they didn't know what to do. I asked about doing blood work and they said they could but don't know if it was necessary because she didn't have much of a fever and wanted over $100 to test for Lyme.

We rushed my dog in yesterday after an attack where he had stopped breathing. It was early in the morning and our vet was closed so we took him to Cheshire for emergency care. The doctor (Doctor G) was very kind, thorough and gentle with him. She was very patient, respectful, and treated us very well. After some testing it was confirmed that our beloved pooch was very ill and was not going to recover. We made the difficult decision to put him down. They brought him to us so we could have some time alone to say goodbye. The office manager came in and started asking us what we wanted to do with his remains and to pick out which items to purchase after his cremation. We were a bit taken aback with the intrusion and with her timing. She left and we went back to our tearful final goodbyes. After 5 minutes the office manager interrupted us again...this time to verbally announce each service we received, the cost of each and what the "grand total" we owed her was. She wanted to know how we would be paying and if we would pay her now in full before the doctor came back to perform the euthanasia. We were shocked at her inappropriate intrusions and that she would be pressuring us about money at the time when we were saying goodbye to our dog. Her lack of compassion was astonishing. This is beyond UNACCEPTABLE. I understand you have a business to run but her lack of boundaries, courtesy and disrespect for us was beyond reprehensible. It made a very difficult time for our family almost unbearable. I am so disgusted and I will never return for care at this facility. However, we are thankful to Dr. G for her compassionate care and understanding.

Lady at front desk so snotty can’t wait to get my dogs records and change vets

The people were nice. The vet was sweet. But I waited for an hour in the waiting area to be seen. The vet was with my cat for 20 minutes. Then I waited again in the waiting area for meds and a cone for 40+ more minutes. It’s expensive as well. Unfortunately it was the only place open at the time. I hate coming here.

Sandy Monterose

Thank you for the care, professionalism and compassion that each staff person showed to me and my companion Lola when we needed it most.

My cat got into something today that burned his nose (I still can't figure out what). It was literally a peeling blister and I was literally a sobby mess with worry when I came through the doors of VCA Cheshire. The folks at VCA not only took excellent care of my little one, but took excellent care of me, too. They didn't make me feel silly for being that upset, and treated me with dignity and respect through the whole process. I have nothing but nice things to say and I'm glad that they were there for us in our time of crisis.

Meagan Zdanowicz

Horrible establishment. Had an appointment for my pup at 4:20 but wasn’t moving, eating, drinking and at 2:00 wanted to charge me an er fee because they were in meetings. Going to another vet otherwise my pup might not be ok. HORRIBLE!!! Would rather go to shelton emergency hospital for my dogs. Worst part is they told me to come down early. Money hungry!!!

Staff and Veterinarian were absolutely wonderful! Thank you for the excellent care you provided for my cat!

The Doctors, Techs and staff were all amazing and took great care of my dog who suffered a freak hip dislocation. His surgery was a success and he is on his way to a full recovery. Thank you VCA Cheshire Animal Hospital.

We had to bring our kitty in last night and every person we talked to were so kind and compassionate. I cannot thank them enough for what they did for us. Being an emergency vet I'm sure they've had many traumatic nights, I'm thanking God it wasn't that way for us, our sweet boy's issue was a common, easy fix but they treated us with more compassion than we received at another vet when we had to put one of our other cats to sleep. I can't recommend this vet enough.

James Williams

I can't really say anything about the doctors here – because I haven't brought my dog. But at 10:30 tonight, a Skunk sprayed my little chihuahua directly in the face. I called VCA immediately and Jilly was the most amazing person to talk to. First, she calmed me down. She gave me all the information I needed and was really concerned about my dogs health. After washing Bruiser in the solution-the DISGUSTING VILE SMELL VANISHED!!! And she followed up to make sure he was OK. I wish every Vet had someone like Jilly working for them! THANK YOU!!!!

Friendly and helpful. Had a dr who could see ferrets on an emergency basis

I took my cat here last night after a stitch had popped from a recent spaying. I was very upset upon arrival, and the front desk staff appeared to lack compassion for myself and my pet. Which I consider to be the worst part of this review. If you work at a 24 hour emergency vet office, where is the compassion for the people coming through your doors? The front desk staff was also more worried about ordering their dinner, joking around, and paging each other over the loud speaker to specify who was ordering what. Very unprofessional. Also unprofessional rolling of eyes, seeming bothered to answer questions over the phone to people on hold. Felt very judged because I did not have a primary vet for my cat - she is an indoor cat, around indoor cats who are kept up on shots, spayed/neutered, and well taken care of. I was asked multiple times why I did not have a vet/ I should make it a “priority” to get one. Giving this review 2 stars ONLY because the actual Vet had given her tissue adhesive to keep the incision closed to prevent infection. Would not recommend, and would not come back. The front desk staff are probably some of the most unprofessional group of people I have ever met.

i would like to tell you what i experienced tonight, i brought my cat in, mind you very upset and stressed and scared if she was going to pass away or be told she had a serious issue.. i first called about 10;00 spoke to younique, she was very nice but told me call poison control bc she may have eaten some fresh flowers.. i take her advice and call there, i pay for the conversation on the phone , she tells me no doesn’t have same symptoms if she ate the flowers so to take case number and her number , bring her to cheshire animal and have vet call them with that case number andddd it could be life threatening after i told her the symptoms of my cat trying to move her bowels and little light shades of blood appeared she was meowing throughout the house and trying to urinate and move her bowels in litter box, my bathroom sinks and bathtub .. nothing but little traces of red which alarmed me made me cry and scared as ever to lose my baby bella.. so we take her tonight at 1:00 am, the girl krista stewart comes out first thing .. attitude... no compassion didn’t care told me 135$ second word out of her big mouth that talked over me the whole time and said i cannot guarantee i can examine her if she is hissing and is in distress clearly ,probably bc she is in discomfort!! this girl proceeds to go on about the money and how she cannot manage to tell me what is wrong with my loved fur baby... she was nothing but rude and nasty did not even care one bit and then said ok then sign these papers and you will probably waste the 135$ because she as i can see will not co-operate .. well with a rotten disposition like hers.. who would?!! her vibe sucked and she was extremely unprofessional and no calming manner nothing!! i will never return nor refer and she can take her snotty ways elsewhere because you will not keep business with her .. she was awful from the word go!!! total failure... however, i would like to say carly was wonderful she kindly took the time to explain to me some knowledge about cats and what to give and what not to give or suggested things for me to do unlike that other brat.. carly was so sweet and helpful and did soothe me with her caring ways.. i walked out not crying and felt a piece of mind so i would like to give her 5 stars... the other one i would never ever want her to touch my fur babies because she is so nasty...so end result i am taking her to another reputable vet that shows care and love for our pets..

Where can I start? My dog has chronic health issues and as a pet owner who has never turned down anything for the betterment of my dog and for someone who has been going here for 2 years, I’m outraged. I’m sick and tired of their dumb reasonings for spending hundreds of thousands of dollars on procedures and medication. I bring my dog for a follow up and refill on the same medicine almost every time (every month or so) and some how the bill changes every time, anywhere from $100-$600. When I asked the receptionist she simply said “I don’t know.” I’m also tired of the rude receptionists. They either need new employees that actually care or need some training on socializing with people. I have never been rude to anyone here, yet I don’t receive the same courtesy from the workers. After my dog had an accident, I offered to clean it up and one male receptionist said he’d but also says to me “this is why I don’t like dogs.” I’ve also witnessed two employees playing nose goes for who got to pick up the phone when it rings. Why would you do that at an emergent hospital. Though I greatly appreciate how great they were when my older dog died. I can’t example how angry and tired I am of attitudes, the in-consist pricing, and the treatment of my dog. I have been working with animals for many years and I’m not saying I’m a know it all but I definitely KNOW that this place is overcharging. After two years, I’m finally changing vets.

Unfortunately, i have been her quite a few times with my niece dog recently. The staff was incredibly sweet and accommodating. I give 4 stars because it was crazy expensive. We were charged $40 for a test i know costs less then a dollar. That is not the staffs fault. Everyone who works there treated us with the upmost respect and consideration. Especially the tech that works 3rd shift. I dont remember her name, but she was incredibly empathetic and kind.

What’s the worst time in my life then to be faced with the decision to put down someone that I love? My dog meant the world to me. She was the sweetest, most loveable pet I could ever ask for. After I was given the information that Nahla was terminal, I had to make the choice to put her down. I spent over an hour in the room with her mulling over what the options were before deciding. I did not want to remember her with ashes; I wanted her paw print. I even asked if the staff had a stamp pad to take a print home with me that same day. Unfortunately, there was not one available, however I was reassured that I could receive her paw print in clay. After a TWO WEEK wait I had to make a call to see what the delay was. I was furious to find out that during the paperwork, and double checking of that paperwork, a clerical error had occurred and the clay print was never ordered. How can this be possible? I feel disrespected, as if losing my best friend wasn’t enough, I didn’t even get a phone call. I was the one who had to reach out. I am completely disgusted with the handling of my worst day by VCA Cheshire Animal Hospital. I hope that no one has to feel the same way I do after losing a pet, and I will never return there!

FIVE STARS!!!! I brought my 4mo old puppy Sandy Cheeks to Cheshire Vet after she broke her leg, and needed surgery to fix it. I have never been so happy with the service at an animal hospital (or anywhere for that matter) in my life!! Every single person that I encountered there were some of the most kind, caring, gentle people I have ever met. Not only did they care about my puppy's needs and feelings, they also cared about mine. They called me before she went in for surgery on her leg, and they called me when she woke up from anesthesia. They told me I could call to check on her anytime I wanted to see how she was doing. Dr. Stern did a wonderful job on Sandy's surgery!! I will definitely use Cheshire Vet again!! Absolutely fantastic!! This is coming from someone that was a vet tech at another animal hospital for a few years. Like someone else said below, surgery and good QUALITY care for your pets is expensive. Let's be real. If you are not willing to pay for the proper care that your pet needs then don't get one! The tests that they do (especially before surgery) are VERY necessary. They need to do those tests to make sure that your pet is stable enough to go under anesthesia. Would you rather pay a little extra to make sure they are stable enough to go under or would you rather lose your pet? That's a no brainer to me.

Brought my dog here on Sunday due to her having difficulties with labor . They examed her and told me one puppy was dead and stuck in the canal . They said a c section would cost 4gs I was not approved for the care credit they offered so I was sent home with instructions to bring her back if she got worse and to see another vet to have her spayed the following day . Unfortunately I never got the chance she died a hour after we left there . I'm so devastated I gueniely hate this place and wouldn't recommend it to anyone unless you have lots of money to spare . If you can't pay they will let your animal die . Which is so sad my Roxy was more than a pet she was my baby . They should be ashamed of themselves and should have payment plans as an option . My poor baby would still be here with me .

K Carpenter

I can’t thank the team here enough. Everyone was amazing and this was a no pressure and no judgement experience which you can’t always say about a pet health visit. Lisa and Dr. Miska were amazing with my babies and they really was red to share all of the options where there may be concern. They even recommended a spay for my little girl if the cost at their location was prohibitive. They really just wanted my kitties happy and healthy. Another very nice tech was I. With us too and I regret I didn’t get her name. I had a lot of questions about cost when I called to make the appointment and I want to recognize Letitia for being understanding, patient, and above all accurate. The idea she gave me for what I’d be paying for vaccs was spot on, within a dollar or two. It made me feel good to be prepared and within budget. It’s important to me to share this review because I have been “vet shy” due to a poor experience with an elderly cat (13) in the past, at another vet. Cheshire VCA has cured me!!

Outstanding care, staff, vets, very organized, reasonable pricing. Kind and caring to both pet and owner.

Lori \winters

Love this place. Very reasonable prices. Really good care. Really good to be established and have records here if need emergency care.

Dr Gucc

TLDR: This place is a massive scam. Will lie to take your money. DO NOT GO. I went there with my dog who swallowed an ibuprofen pill. I immediately got her to throw it up but was concerned so I rushed to the VCA. I quickly realized this place is full of crooks. I was young so I assume that is why they assumed they could scare me by saying multiple times "if you do not let us take your dog into surgery, she will die". The way they were speaking to me gave me a strong feeling they were being dishonest. Especially because I spoke to a pet poison helpline and they told me that I could go to an animal hospital for safe measure. Then they came back into the room after lying about my dog supposed forthcoming death with a $2,500 bill saying this is what it will cost to save her. I told them I won't go through with it and this is where they became very irritated. They continued saying they will not be responsible for my dogs death and repeatedly tried to coerce me into going through with the surgery. I refused and they told me to sign their paperwork to acknowledge that it is not on them when my dog does not make it through the night. Wen't to the Vet in the morning and was told she threw up the pill so she is fine but they wanted to give her an IV. $80 in total at the Vet. All in all, my dog was fine, and they were terrible people trying to take advantage of a kid who is concerned about his dog.

My cat was extremely ill, and i took her to this hospital, and the price was insane!

Christopher Tarnowicz

Horrible experience. They treated myself and my dog poorly. Were very unprofessional as well. I agree with the rest of the reviews. Just walking in the door you have to pay an arm and a leg. Will never go to again and will make sure no one I know won't either

We went in to have our prescious dog Euthanized and the staff couldnt be any kinder and more courteous from the moment we walked in to when we left. They were truly understanding what an upsetting moment in time it was and were there to help in any way they could 5 stars

Took my 16 year old tiger cat there yesterday on the advise of our regular vet because they thought he needed surgery for a bad medical issue. Turned out he passed whatever was creating the medical issue. The facility was extremely busy because they are an emergency clinic, so they evaluate each situation and took the animals in depending on its situation but what I saw was every animal taken care of immediately. The staff is wonderful and kind. I can't say as much for the some clients but as a pet owner I understood some clients handle stress in different ways and they do as well. I saw nothing but professional, kind and loving staff members

I will never bring another dog or cat to this vet hospital again. Even if I have to treat them myself. My dog was elderly with a heart condition and on multiple medications. He was having a heart problem when I rushed him in. They took him into the back room for treatment an I was waiting to hear he was going to be ok. When they came in the room I could tell the news was bad, very bad. He was suffering and he wasn't going to make it. My heart was (and still is) broken. My problem is when I went to get my wife and bring her back they were going to try and charge me before I left to get her. Then, when we got back we held him when they gave him the shots. She never told us it would be instantly over and he would go gently to sleep. He gave a small yelp when his heart stoped. He was in pain! The final straw was the vet tech mishandled him and he bit her before they brought him to us. Remember, he's an elderly dog in distress, scared in a strange environment. The tech didn't call me, didn't put on gloves and reached into the cage. The heartbreak was losing him but they made it infinitely worse because after he was gone they said they could not release him to me. Because the vet tech mishandled him and he bit her they had to "send some nerve tissue in for rabies testing". They were reluctant to tell me what or how much tissue we were talking about. They finally told me they had to decapitate my dog (my friend and family) and talk out his whole brain !!! I think they are money first then dog - I think you should look somewhere else for the sake of your loved ones ! 3/16/2018 It's been 2 year this Sunday since this happened and I want people who care about their companions to know about this situation. I talked with the staff shortly after losing my companion about changes to their policy for animals in distress. Letting the owner sign a waiver to bring him to the hospital room to make it easier on him. But, they were having none of it and just played the "It's not our fault" game. My question is "Who was in control in the room?", my companion or the college educated vet tech? I hope people who read this take their companions to someone who cares and not Cheshire Veterinary Hospital.

Heather Dearing

I had been to this same facility back in 2010 which I was very impressed with. Considering going again since I am unhappy with the Vet that is caring for my cat now. Everyone at VCA in Cheshire was completely professional and the Veterinarian was completely honest and explained the details of all tests results performed on my german shepard. This is the only reason I am considering going back there again. It is expensive but reasonable for an emergency room. I think folks need to understand that this facility is not going to be cheap..it is a "Emergency Veterinary Hospital" open 24/7. Just as if you were to go to the Emergency Room vice a walk in clinic. You will pay more for an Emergency Room visit regardless whether it is you that needs it or your pet. As a result of the elevated cost (ie: emergency room) I would expect all blood work, testing and anything else could be conducted there at the facility without delay which was the case for my german shepard. Answers were delievered in minutes and I felt confident that I was giving my german shepard the right care. I would definiately go back again.

I had to bring my older cat in for constipation issues Easter Sunday, and the Veterinarian was very knowledgable and help solved the problem.

On Wednesday morning at approximately 230am, my husband and I had to experience the worst day of our lives with our beloved dog, Rocky!! We had to make decisions that we never thought we would have to. With your amazing staff, Dr. Krien and Julia, they helped comfort us and our dog during this hard time. The compassion they showed while we were beside ourself was amazing and I don't think we would have been able to keep it together if it wasn't for them. They were considerate and made sure our dog was not suffering. They listened to all our concerns and made sure not only was our Rocky okay but that we were okay. We could never thank these two enough! The devotion they showed our Rocky and us was matched only by their skill and knowledge.... a cut above!! My husband and I want to to express our heart felt gratitude for the care and compassion shown to us during Rocky's short sickness and demise on Wednesday. Dr Krein, thank you so much for your comforting words. Between yourself and Julia we can not thank you enough, you guys were exemplary in your professionalism. Although Rocky is dearly missed, we know he is in a better place and time heals all hurts!! Again.... thank you. Denise and Robinson Gervacio

Outstanding medical care. Thank you to everyone who saved my pets life.

I have 4 cats and I like to think I provide them with excellent care. As part of their routine care I use VCA Cheshire Animal Hospital. When thinking about the staff there the words amazing warm, compassionate, courteous, honest, skilled, bright, and diligent spring to mind. My first experience with VCA was as an urgent walk-in client a few years ago. Unfortunately the doctor’s swift diagnosis/test results indicated my cat was at end-stage kidney failure and I lost her after 1 short week. However, my entire experience there moved me in such a way that I immediately made VCA Cheshire my primary vet for all of my cats’ routine care. Unfortunately, I lost another pet (due to old age) 1 month later and I had the entire staff at VCA to lean on during that terrible time. Their compassion was remarkable. This brings me to present day. My youngest cat, an eleven month old kitten, had surgery there last week. I was anxious as the polyp being removed was at the base of my cat’s inner ear and there were plenty of potentially serious side effects. Before the operation I was fully apprised of any possible side effects, short and long term, and presented with two different treatment plans. The staff kept me looped in with daily phone calls, frequent texts/picture updates before and after the surgery, took my neurotic midnight phone calls to check on her. The follow up contact and care were also wonderful. I cannot thank Dr. Stern enough for her skilled care and compassion; as well as the rest of the staff at VCA Cheshire Animal Hospital. Thank you for taking care of my fur babies as if they were your own, I cannot express my gratitude enough.

Lisa Aszklar

We went there for an emergency visit and unfortunately doing what we could for our 4 legged baby we had to put her down. It was devastating for our family to say the least. We decided to get her cremated. After waiting 2 LONG weeks I called to follow up on her remains and they informed me she has been back for a couple days but the photo cover that we requested for her box was on backorder so they were waiting for it to come in. ARE YOU SERIOUS!?!?! Our family has been waiting for 2 weeks to bring her home to be with us and they had her just sitting in the office. I was/am SO upset. How dare they! At least a call to inform us of the situation and let us make the decision to let her stay there or not (which obviously would have been NOT)......... So uncaring!

Donna Vuolo

I am looking around for another vet. I was not impressed with VCA. People spend a lot of cash for care. I think there should be not only dog people but a people person working at the front desk. Never smiled, rude, non-communicative, not likable at all. I worked with the public all my life. This girl who was there for my 2:00 weekday appt was horrible. I will not stay here. From Still Searching. P.S. The vet did not put my dog on the table and did not examine her. I had a free coupon.

Blair Lassen

Absolutely deplorable. My dog and I were treated as if we were invisible. The staff had personal conversations while my dog waited over two hours with a limp leg. When I asked questions I was repeatedly told of the other animals issues with no regard for my dog. We had to leave to go to all the way Middletown. Despicable.

Caitlin Goff

Our dog was transferred from our primary care vet to VCA on Friday night. She was in ICU. The entire staff was amazing, loving and kept in constant touch with me. I cannot express more gratitude and thanks for the exceptional attention and loving care given to her. Yesterday I feared the WORST. Tonight she is a new dog, home and happy. Had the feared outcome taken place I would still feel the same but they got her in the clear so my heart dances tonight. Expensive, but worth it. They do nothing to jack a bill ever.

Samantha Faraci

Brought my puppy here over the holiday weekend because of diarrhea and was told he had one of two bone/joint disorders before any testing was done! His upset stomach was brushed aside instead they focused on telling us he was in pain for something totally different and unrelated to his stomach and sent us into a panic thinking something was seriously wrong with him. The only instructions for his stomach we were given were to have him on a bland diet which we had already been doing. We left there $530 later and with a puppy that was still sick and unable to hold anything in his stomach. We got him through he remainder of the weekend and took him to his regular vet who gave him medicine for his stomach and he is now back to his normal self. DO NOT bring your pets here! They take advantage of people who are worried for their fur babies!

Pat DeRusso

It's still hard to type these words but we had to let our dachshund go (Jenna) last week because of a back injury. It was very tough for my family of three girls and wife. The staff could not have been nicer and more accommodating to my family and Jenna. We all just wanted to say thank you for your compassion and understanding.

Jessica Girard

We adopted a puppy over a month ago. And unfortunately he was attacked by our next door neighbors dog, whom broke 3 bones in his leg. I myself was not even left unscathed, but immediately rushed my puppy to this hospital. They took him in as soon as we got there. He ended up needing surgery. Over the last month they have taken great care of him and it is clear that they care because they are excited every time they see him and he's always running towards the door when we have to go for check-ups. I would recommend them in a emergency, and for follow-up visits. I highly recommend Dr. Stern for surgical procedures because she did an amazing job.

Christopher DiLorenzo

My wife, Marion and I would like to thank Dr. Goul for the great skill and empathy, she exhibited, while treating Jake, our German Shepherd. Dr. Goul always returns our calls and takes the time to fully address our questions. I might add that all of the staff at VCA, especially our favorite technician, Nina, also handle our concerns ( and like any pet owner there have been many!!) in a kindly and skillful manner.

Joshua Bechter

Sarah Livingston

If I could rate them zero I would. My cat had a cyst that ruptured before I could get her in to have it addressed by her vet, so of course when you have an animal with a now open and oozing wound you take them to an emergency vet to have it taken care of. Well I’m still not sure what the heck I paid for, even after arguing with the “manager” for 20 minutes. They claim they completely cleared out the wound and gave her a shot of antibiotics, but there is still a LARGE lump of active infection that they just left. I paid $135 plus the shot of antibiotics to basically get told to take her to the vet. I’m sorry, but are they not a vet? Should they not be completely addressing a situation like this to ensure any active infection is cleared out? I literally paid for my animal to come home in worse shape than I took her! The wound is a bigger mess now than it was, and she’s in horrendous pain that I can’t help because they expect me to cut open capsules and divide the powder evenly on tin foil. This is insane. DO NOT BRING YOUR ANIMAL HERE FOR ACTUAL HELP. They give them a shot, cause them pain, and then tell you to take them to a vet. God. Awful. Place.

Lynn Culotta

We received excellent care for our very sick cat this past weekend. We were kept very informed by very knowledgeable and caring vets and techs. I recommend VCA for any pet emergencies.

Tyler

Very friendly and knowledgeable, very helpful staff! Been going here for over ten years, great place all around. Thank you

Jackie Lucibello

I went here today and was not impressed. I Am in the process of moving to Cheshire and my fur baby was due for an exam so I thought I’d try to find a place closer to our new home. Minutes after as I walked into the exam room the tech was telling me about some care program, she wasn’t pushy about it but I was taken aback that just a few minutes in she is slinging some care plans that are ridiculously expensive. Then the doctor came in and seemed very business oriented as opposed to patient oriented. She was very nice but kept suggesting different procedures and these things that would have to be done before the procedure. For example my dog sometimes limps, it alters between his front two legs. She checked his legs and couldn’t give a definite answer as to what causes it (blood born issues already ruled out). She suggested having xrays done (although stated she did not feel anything awry and he doesn’t cry or wince in any pain when it’s touched). He also has a little mass on his chest. Precious doc said it was just a fatty tissue mass but Bc it grew I was concerned. Doc felt it and explained it wasn’t attached to any tissue and she could move around it, implying something benign in nature. Then she goes on to say well I can take a sample of what’s in it and see if there is anything of concern BUT she may not be able to tell what it is, which it would then need to be sent out and they may not know. And then if that is the case we could cut it off and biopsy it, which would require anesthesia, which would require bloodwork, and since the other doctor is who does this procedure my dog should come in for a visit to meet with that doctor so the doctor knows my dog. Oh and since he is having anesthesia he should also have a chest X-ray to make sure his heart isn’t enlarged?!? They also gave me a list of vaccines they recommend. Upon leaving I called the other vet, to get another opinion and she was emphatic that the only vaccines a dog at his age needs is rabies and distemper and that a blood panel could reveal if anything such as cancer was going on, and regarding his legs that xrays will only show a damage to the bones which he doesn’t have. They also charge $350-$400 for xrays. The emergency hospital doesn’t even charge that, they charged me $280 when my other dog had to be seen. Anyways, I will say the staff was nice. It was very clean. But I can’t get past the focus on money and unnecessary tests. By the way I did have the doctor puncture the mass and look at the cells, not surprisingly she found nothing, only red blood cells which can’t even be sent to a lab for further diagnosis. To have her look at a microscope cost me $100. Thank god I had a coupon for a free first visit as their wellness checks are almost $90 which is extremely high (at least compared to other vets I know). For general routine care I would not go here. I can’t say how they are for emergency situations but I believe you can get better quality care, more personable and patient oriented staff, and for much less at other places.

Colleen Campbell

Love this VCA! I have had two great experiences at this location! Each time I have visited this office I have had very courteous and professional service from the staff. I had taken my little Chihuahua there recently and all of the staff treated her so gentle and loving! It’s clear they all love what they do! I feel that they were very genuine in the way that they handled our particular situation & they explained things very clearly so that my husband and I could make a responsible choice on what to do next for our pet. It’s great to have a friendly emergency vet service that I am comfortable taking all of my pets to and I so much appreciate the all of staff at this VCA.

rachel niman

If I could give less than 1 star I would give that. Went with my friend with her dog 2/5/19. They sent him home to bleed to death. They stereotyped the dog, a pittie, and my friend. If this is an emergency vet, wouldn't you do whatever to help the dog? I've spoken to numerous friends that are ACO's and this is a problem. He could've survived if treatment was done at the time. Rest in peace JAX. Please don't bring your pets here. UNNECESSARY SUFFERING. I am heartbroken.
