I use to use this practice years ago. I had very bad experiences with the receptionist Dana. Causing me to leave as she was rude and didn’t seem to care. It was a shame as I missed the doctors and her attitude caused several people to leave the practice. Now bring us to the last month! I adopted an 11 month old pup that had 4 previous home prior to me. He had pain in his tail and needed to get neutered i had some paperwork that states he was a past client here so i reside to take him to been seen here as you all at least had a bit of history on our boy!!! I called and was pleasantly surprised but the receptionist as she was polite she listened knew what i needed for my pup and got us in later that day!!! She knew i was worried as i knew his tail was painful for him. This brings me to meeting Dr. Twarog!! She was caring she remember him and was just a breath of fresh air!!!! She agreed his tail was painful asked me if i plan on neuter she stated would be best to do neuter and X-ray on tail at the same time not to put him under more than nessasary!!! I appreciated that. She fit is in the following day for surgery but still sent him home on and anti inflammatory and pain med to make sure he was comfy for the night!!! I was well informed on what to do and what not to do by the technician!!!! Surgery and X-ray was over he was able to come home same night as he is a spicy little man and was more than ready. I again was told all that i needed to know to care for him at home and the does and don’t!!!! I’m very well versed in animal care but was still nice to know they took the time to make sure i knew what i needed to to keep him safe!!!!!! I am so happy to be back!!!!!! The atmosphere has changed so much for the better!!!!! And as always Doctor St. Clair has always rocked!!!!!

Overall this is a good place. However, yesterday we had to put our dog down. This decision to do that was incredibly hard as he was a major part of the family. The vet who gave him the injection was okay. She couldn’t find his vein I don’t know if she was nervous because she was new but okay. Before he passed, I asked the tech if I could have some of his fur to remember him (I picked up the fur from his arm where they shaved for the injection). She said “of course, people ask all the time”. After he passed, she asked me where I would like the fur from, like if I had a favorite spot. I just said “his back I guess?” She pulled out a razor, pulled him up by his skin and started shaving his body. I was speechless. She didn’t warn me that she was going to do it then. I thought maybe they’d do it after and give it to us with his ashes. She left his body there with a huge bald spot RIGHT after we just lost him. And then left the razor next to him in the bed and left. It was a horrible experience and I hope this doesn’t happen again to anyone.

I have a Yorky who was seven at the time and will not let no one cut his nails so I took him there and even thow he had to be put to sleep it was for his safety first and they were excellent with him. Now he is eight and I have to go through the whole proses again and I wouldn't do it anywhere else.

Ive had dogs for over 20yrs of my adult life and i can assure you, Dr. James has the best bedside manner of any vet ive been to (Ohio, Fla, CT). He grew up in a veterinary office with his father at the helm. I've also never had better follow up care (not to mention care while my dogs are at their office) than from Dr. Anderson. She is dedicated to the point that i question whether her family EVER gets to see her. I LOVE THESE VETERINARIANS!!!

I LOVE this vet. We bring all 4 of our animals there; 2 dogs and 2 cats. Dr James is our dr and he is phenomenal. He is very caring, down to earth, and thorough. We really trust all of our pets lives in his hands and his staff's. The girls are also very helpful, patient and knowledgable. It is so hard to find a good vet and one that isn't money hungey at the same time. We travel the 25 minutes to go here bc it is worth it. He will be our vet until he retires. Really a relief to have found such an awesome vet!!!

The Meriden Animal Hospital is FANTASTIC! After learning that our little man tore his ACL/CCL to say we were nervous was the least! After three different consults with different vets, we found ourself at MAH talking with Dr James. We knew right away that we would be bringing ziggy to get his CCL ligament repair surgery here. Dr James is so knowledgeable and compassionate. He is honest and will not try to get you into the most expensive surgery. He went over ALL OPTIONS and allowed my husband and I to make our best decision. The best part? Ziggy is doing amazing! We couldn’t be happier that we trusted MAH. Thanks Dr James and crew!

Very nice staff... unfortunately my first visit was to bring my beloved Tucker (a beautiful 16 year old Australian Shephard, Australian Collie and Wolf mix) to 'cross over to the other side' as his health was failing him. They were all so very compassionate in this extremely hard time for us all. They were caring to Tucker in his final moments as well as very supportive to me and my husband. They also provided us with a beautiful box engraved with Tuckers name to take him back home where he belongs. Thank you all so much for making a very difficult time a little easier. I will definitely be bringing my many other 'fur babies' (I have 2 indoor cats and 6 strays outside (well not really strays any longer...as I have been feeding and caring for for 3 and half years now) should any health issues arise.

MHS is where we take our boy Indy. We met at least 3 different doctors, all very nice. Our dog was suffering from itchy skin, and was getting some hot spots. After a few tries with the cortizone, they performed a blood test and saw his thyroid was sluggish. We began him on thyroid pills, and he is so much better. Itching went away, fur grew back in nicely. Thanks to MHS.

I brought my male kitten to the vet to be treated for upset stomach and loss of appetite. I spent almost $200 on tests and medicine. He wouldn't take the pills they sold me to treat his upset stomach and wasn't really eating so I called the vet as they told me to if he wouldn't eat. They told me not to worry about the medicine because we didn't want to stress him out with trying to take meds. The next day he still wasn't eating and I called as the doctor told me to and never received a call back from the doctor. By noon, he was eating and not throwing up anymore so I stopped worrying so much. He seemed to get better, until a few weeks later he was still having diarrhea on and off and I realized I never got a call back about the results from his stool sample. When I called the office it took them a long time to find his test results and they said they found he tested positive for roundworm!!! They said the results were never passed to the doctor. This is also highly contagious to other animals (I have another cat) and humans!!!!!! My family has only ever taken pets here and the staff is friendly, but for my first experience with this vet I am very upset and will not be bringing my pets back to be seen here.

Very polite and kind staff, VERY BUSY PRACTICE, Doctor kept us waiting almost an hour and then could only spend 10 minutes explaining surgery options while being interrupted by staff for other matters. They are inexpensive and if that is a priority they are probably a good practice for you. You get what you pay for...my pets are like my children and I am willing to pay a little more to get the attention I need.

Dr. James, is so awesome with the animals! He has handled all three of my semi-feral cats, and they are great with him ! He also treated my my dog like a baby angel. I brought her there for over 13 years! Even until the very and we had to put her down, he was a friend of compassion .. He takes his time, very sensitive and caring, and extremely intelligent on modern medicine and healing!!

Dr. James worked diligently for years helping my parents to stabilize our diabetic dog - as well as teaching us how to care for him. Although he always kept a professional demeanor, it was easy to see that he too was upset upon giving us the news that our dog had a large mass on his spleen. It is this type of comprehensive care that keeps my family using this practice. More recently I had the honor of adopting a one-eyed kitten from Meriden Animal Hospital that was saved ONLY because of the compassion that the doctors at this practice work with. She is now 13 weeks old, completely healthy, happy, and a bundle of joy. A little cat that was given a life, solely because one doctor, Dr. Stacia, decided she was worthy of being fixed. Everyone there comes highly recommended, and the care comes with smiles (and since everyone always asks), very reasonable prices.

Dr James is one of the BEST!! The place does not look like much but the care your animal gets is the best, he is straight forward, compassionate and extremely funny.I have had the best experiences with him, he saved my precious bulldog a few years ago after another vet misdiagnosed her and she was close to death, Dr James performed surgery on her immediately & found a small quarter size piece of rubber (from a toy) had lodged in her intestines, he saved my dog and found what was wrong immediately! I am forever in his debt. My other bulldog is a rescue and was abused but he is a perfect angel with me he just doesn't do well with others, the staff has been really understanding when I need to bring him in and they get us right into a room and Dr. James has assisted me in any way I ask not to make the visit too stressful for my guy, I love the way they always work with me and give me the assistance I need having a difficult dog,it makes life less stressful for us all! If you are new to the area or need a new vet, please go see them, you will never find a better Dr. that cares and will take the time to talk to you and also call you , not his staff, he actually takes the time to call you, that is really important, the personal touches mean a lot. My guy may have been a rescue and may have some trauma in his past but he saved me more than I save him and I will do whatever it takes to give him the best life possible and make up for the neglect that someone else caused him and Dr. James has also rescued a bulldog, Martin so he is just as compassionate in his personal life with animals as he will be with your animal, that's what all animal lovers want! Dr James St Clair and staff, you are the best there is and I would never trust anyone else with the love's of my life, my precious bulldogs!! thank you so much for all you do! If you read the other reviews you will see that Dr. James has replied to a few himself, that is exactly what I mean, take the time to please your customers! They are a very busy practice and that should tell you just how good they are! Our pets are our best friends, our children, our heart & our loves and you will never go wrong here....

Reception is rude, they always have a terrible attitudes. I had to call them about three times to have them send my cats records to my new vet, by the third time I called, I was put on the phone with the front desk supervisor? who was rude, snarky and probably should not be working customer service. I have never been so disgusted with this place in my life. I will never go back, it is a real shame since the vet medicine is so great.

I have worked at vet hospitals so I knew what to look for in a new vet. When it came down to all I looked into I picked Meriden Animal Hospital. Their staff is patient and kind and the doctors are the best around. You are not rushed and they listen to ALL your concerns. They do not nickel and dime you, their prices are more than fair. Since this is a father and son business you find a great deal of down to earth compassion and understanding. As with ALL hospitals human or animals doctors sometimes runs late (emergencies or other clients late for their appointments), but the staff keeps you informed how long it will be and every time I went the wait time was minimal. I recommend this vet to all my friends that are looking for a vet. A+

Seriously happy I found this place. Dr James is just...awesome! My cat Sonic was sick with a respiratory infection. Dr. James was very thorough and explained everything to me. He prescribed antibiotics to Sonic and he was feeling better within a few days. I felt completely comfortable there. You can that the staff truly love what they do, and that they are there to help your pet, and not just there to make a quick dollar. Dr. James kept everything straight up with me and didn't try to over-sell me any products, or run unnecessary tests just to charge me more. The rest of the staff was just as friendly and pleasant. I will absolutely bring my pets here again! Thank you!

If you suspect your dog is having joint pain or issues please consider scheduling an appointment w/ Dr. St Clair. Our previous vet was very capable and kind but I felt had little experience with spotting joint pain and issues. Our Shiba Inu had torn his ACL about 3/4. We opted for the Suture Stabilization surgery. It was the best fit for our dogs needs. It's been about 6 weeks and he's doing really, really good. We followed the dr's instructions, although difficult at times, but it MUST be done or the surgery will be for nothing. The booklet provided by Dr. St. Clair was informative, thorough and a lifesaver for post surgery care. I don't know why more vets don't discuss this w their pet owners after surgery. He won't ever be 100% because of other issues he's had since he was a puppy, but this was a quality of life choice for us and it made sense. The cost was very reasonable and affordable, but we honestly would have done it either way.
