I have had many experiences with Mattatuck Animal Hospital over the years and I have never been disappointed.

I've usually have had a great experience coming here. But today was far from it. The front desk lady is extremely unfriendly, doesn't smile, and is extremely short with you. She was asking for private information from across the room like my address and phone number. Didn't ask me to come over or anything. Doctor basically let me tell him what was wrong with my cat. I had to tell him to check him to see if he's ok. I'll think twice on coming back.

Normally I would write wonderful reviews as I had a good experience in the past. This has changed. Today I called to schedule my dog for an Xray as per the doctors advise. On my last visit with the vet he indicated my dog could still have stones if she continued with her issues. He said after my last visit "Not now, but when you are financially able to, bring her in for an xray". Yesterday my dog began the same problem and urinating blood. I called today to schedule the xray and was told I could not as he saw her last in January. Then they transferred me to another staff member who kept saying do I want to schedule her in the end of June and whenever I would say she is bleeding in her urine and you want me to wait til the end of the month, she said or you can schedule an appointment and they can schedule an xray then. So then If I spend more money on the visit they will book her sooner for the xray. Then when I asked that, she yelled at me on the phone. I just find it hard to believe that you are an animal hospital and do not care that my dog is urinating blood or attempting to schedule her for an emergency xray. Im going by what the vet said. You would think if there was a limit in time he would have mention that. I am very frustrated. Now to book someplace else as an emergency to pay the visit and again not have the money to pay the xray and still not know what is going on with my dog. Thank you Mattatuck Animal Hospital for a frustrating experience and not showing any care. 06/09/16

We have brought many animals in to Mattatuck Animal Hospital. We foster dogs for several rescues and have our own pack of dogs and several cats. The staff at Mattatuck has always been wonderful to all of our animals and their prices are extremely reasonable. It is a no-frills walk-in only vet. Like another reviewer said, they lay out all of the options and costs for procedures and let the pet owner decide how they want to proceed. No guilt if finances don't allow for the highest dollar services that may or may not help. They give the pet owner the information to make the cost to benefit analysis for their best friend. It is walk-ins only except for surgery which can be very convenient or can make for a longer wait depending on the time you go. They have excellent hours for typical working people, with later nights and weekend hours that are not billed higher than the less convenient day time hours.

I recently took my sick four month old kitten to this vet office, in high hopes that they would be able to give me info on the reason behind my kittens sickness. For the amount of money I paid I spent 10 minutes in the office with the vet he barely said anything!!!! Waste of time!!!!

Make sure you see Dr Turgeon, the other vet is old, cranky and doesn't do a thorough job. This is a walk in vet, no frills and very low cost. I've never had a problem except the time I saw the old vet....

We have been going to Mattatuck for over 20 years. The care has always been great. The cost is very reasonable too. There are several Doctors on staff and we have seen them all. Dr Meyer is very no nonsense and is great for a quick visit for shots or a general checkup. For more involved issues Drs Petrario or Turgeon are very informative. This is an older practice with a common sense approach to animal care. They have walk-in hours 5 days a week 3 times a day and mornings only on weekends. This is not an emergency vet service, so if you have a critical care issue call before you show up. I have seen people bring in a dog who has clearly been ill for a long time and has never been seen before and they are upset when there is not an instant diagnosis. I have coordinated care between an emergency clinic for advanced testing and this office for follow up care and have been happy with the services from both.

One vet barely talks and gives absolutely no answers or anything unless you ask him first. Literally the visit would be completely silent if you don't say something first..and you're lucky to get more then a "yes" or "no" other vets are awesome though!

Mattatuck has helped me with my cats over the years. So thankful for Mattatuck! After my cat was very sick in the middle of the night and a horrible experience at the VCA in Cheshire, I brought my cat here (they were closed at 1AM when my cat was sick). He formed crystals in his bladder and was in a lot of pain. My cat stayed at Mattatuck for a day and a half and has been so much better! He is now on prescription medication, which seems to be helping. After being told that I may need to put my cat down or pay thousands of dollars by the VCA--I am SO HAPPY that I have Mattatuck. For a mere $350, my cat was able to stay at the hospital have his catheter, prescription medication, and prescription food and most important my happy, loving cat again. Thank you Mattatuck!

Our dog is in his final days after 15 great years. Early Sunday morning we called Mattatuck and left a message to set up an appointment to see the doctor to get a professional diagnosis if we should have him put to sleep. It was around 10:30 and still no return call. My wife called them and mentioned that she was waiting for a return call. The woman said that they didn't check the messages and they were getting ready to leave and couldn't help us till Monday. Our dog was suffering and they could care less. What if we were trying to save his life. Cheap prices means cheap service. You get what you pay for. Thanks for nothing Mattatuck.

Never again! I brought my cat there to have a procedure done. After the procedure, they must have left him in his carrier crate. He was drooling profusely due to nerves and the anesthesia. The bottom of his carrier was soaked and he had to stay laying in it. He was covered on the lower part of his body with lubricant. The doctor was not there to answer questions as to how it went, what they found and if there was a treatment plan. The VERY rude receptionist didn't seem to care at all other than taking my money. I'm happy that my cat is now better, for the time being, but I won't ever bring another animal there again. It's a shame too because I really liked the female doctor.

Was NOT impressed with the older vet. I had to ask him to do an exam at n my sick dog. They did no blood work. Come to find out going there was a waste of my time and money!!! My girl was in crisis and in kidney failure!! She could have died if I had listened to him!!! I will NOT be going back there. Here is Molly!! She is slowly getting better!!

It's. Cheaper then others around. I have been going there for about 5 years now.The care is pretty good no complaints as of yet. Hours are strange. Most of the people are nice there. But there is a few gals and a doctor that's a bit snotty. Place looks dirty and needs remodeling.

My 9 mo old puppy was struggling to walk and didn't want to do anything except lay down. We brought her here and they were great with her. They listened to our concerns and tested her for Lyme and she tested positive for Lyme disease and elichriosis. We are hoping the medicine starts working asap and she gets back to her old self soon.

A great animal vet. My cat wasn't doing to we'll and I had to bring her in. The wait wasn't long and the doctor gave me step by step instructions on what to do and how to treat my cat. The hospital also gave us an estimate of the visit over the phone, and when we got here the bill was reasonable. Good staff, and reasonably priced. You can't beat it.

This place saved my cat's life. He developed stones and could not urinate. I was told by three other vets to put him down if I could not afford the $7,000 of treatment that was necessary. One of the vets was appalled at the thought of putting him down because his condition was treatable with a diet change and a fountain to increase water intake. They kept him over night, unblocked him and gave him some take home meds. It's been almost a year and he's perfectly healthy and most importantly alive. I have recommended this office over and over again.

Everyone is very friendly, and the costs of a vet visit I'd fairly cheap. I took my dog to get a staple in her ear from a dog bite and it costs me $65 for the vet visit, the staple, pain meds and antibiotic

If I could give this animal hospital a zero I would. They are the most unprofessional animal hospital in the area. Keep your animals alive and well DO NOT bring them here AT ALL. This is a HUGE safety risk. There waiting room chairs are taped up, very outdated old and dirty. They have a cat that roams the hospital up front access near other animals. VERY VERY VERY unprofessional. There customer service at the door is ridiculous waited OVER almost 1.5 to get seen. After walking in the door was NOT informed about how there was a sign in never asked if I had appointment. The lady at the desk was rude and needs retaining on customer service and friendlyness. At no way in ANY ASPECT SHOULD THIS PLACE GET STARS.

As Veterinarian hospital's are usually expensive this one is less money than most. It's no frills, they don't use a computer & everything is hand written. You don't make appointment's you show up during office hours, first come first serve. Dr. Tugeon is really nice listens to your questions.

What a great place! Very relaxed and comfortable atmosphere. The Dr. and his staff were all very caring and informative. They didn't rush and they gave much attention. I have to say the prices were the most reasonable I've ever seen and I'm 67 years old. You don't have to make an appointment...you just go and wait your turn, which was fine. No one else could see our cat for a week.

Excellent animal hospital. I've only dealt with Dr. Turgeon, and he's really a great vet. He's very matter-of-fact and makes your options very clear to your. He's not overly optimistic, nor is he doom and gloom. He also recommends expensive procedures only as a last-ditch option (he understands limited income). I've taken my cat to him several times this past week and every time he's been nothing short of a pleasure to work with. He hasn't strong-armed / bullied me or made me feel guilty about any of my decisions. Also, the hospital, itself, is super-convenient because they accept walk-ins. Matter of fact, they ONLY accept walk-ins, which can be a good or bad thing. If you can get there while everybody else is at work, you'll be helped almost immediately. Not only that, but they have weekend hours, as well, that aren't billed as emergency. Their pricing is also very competitive. When I went, it was $10 penicillin injection, $10 anti-nausea injection, $15 stool sample analysis, $130 for full blood panel. I have made Mattatuck Animal Hospital my first choice for care of my cats.

I HAVE BEING A CLIENT FOR 14 YEARS- THE ONLY REASON I STICK WITH THE PLACE IS DR. TURGEON KIND, PROFESSIONAL AND EDUCATED. The other doctors don’t waste your time or money with them- The old lady in front desk “Moron” is full of Nastiness for no reason. She is rude to everyone by phone and in person. She does not want to work? Then why she is there? She is VERY VERY RUDE UNEDUCATED. She was very rude by phone with someone else in front of everyone just because she wasn’t able to use properly the ATM MACHINE. She get really nasty if you ask for a detailed receipt. She get upset because I asked for the pills I paid and she forgot to give them to me. She was acting so bipolar and aggressive when someone was giving her an address to mail the receipt just paid by credit card. My bill was 100$- 55$ for exam, 40$ Felv-FIV test and 5$ for Pills. She charged me 144$ I knew something was wrong and she was soooo upset when I asked her to tell me why 144$ finding out that She charged me for my friend Cat Medication. My friend was suppose to be charge 192$ and My bill was only 100$ and She charged 148$ to my friend and 144$ to me. When I told her that was wrong and I was also worry about The Cats records showing that I bought insulin for the wrong Cat. She responded that’s your problem with your friend, EXCUSE ME. You charged the wrong amount to each card and made wrongful information receipts per Cat, That’s the hospital responsibility and her work. Well I walked away paying an extra 44$ for her fun.

Not pleased with Mattatuck Animal Hospital. The doctors do not know what they are doing. My puppy developed an ear infection from being neutered here. Once I brought him in for the infection, they gave him the wrong medication without a proper diagnosis. Also, they are extremely rude.

My experience overall is great. One of the girls at the front desk gave great customer service to me! I would come back again. The only doctor I do not recommend seeing is Dr. Lewis. We brought our cat here on Sunday and she could’ve gave us the results of the blood test first before putting other shots. Not only that, but she was rude. Gave disrespectful comments like “I don’t do billing” and “I’m sure I’ll see your cat again.” Even took pictures with that second comment. Who does that? Don’t see her!

Yesterday, was a very tough day for my fiancé and I, we went there to bring our cat, that had bone cancer under her jaw. Nothing could be done at that point, and we could no longer see her suffering anymore, so we made a decision to bring her here. The vet tech was so wonderful that she even got emotional and teary-eyed with us, and they were there for us, the other vet tech came in to check on us, and she even gave my cat a kiss on the head. We couldn’t see her be put down because it would be too painful, so she said she would be for her and console her. Which made us feel so much better, The veterinarian,She was so nice, and she gave us 15 minutes alone in the room to spend time with her. And she told us she would be very gentle with her, I’m so blessed and thankful that they treated our beautiful cat is such a gentle and beautiful manner,I know she was in great hands.

I will admit they have a great price for care of our furbabies. But the old man i guess is the owner. Didn't do a thorough check on my poor girl whom i had to take to another vet for a second opinion. And thankfully she doesnt have what my worst nightmare would have been. But i am thankful shes pregnant and not have a uterus infection that could have killed her if it was. He felt no kittens and didnt attempt to do an ultrasound on her to give me piece of mind but have me freaking out and take her to an expensive vet. I was recommended by a friend to go there. And i was doin the same. But after last night i DONT recommend them to anyone. My baby girl could have died if it was something worse. Just be careful who you choose as your furbaby's vet. 2/16/19

The care my dog receives here is amazing. Dr.T explains everything and truly cares about your pet and you! I recently moved about 40 minutes away, tried a vet near me and absolutely hated them.... we make the ride back just so my dog can remain in great care! Theres something to be said when the vet calls and checks up himself and calls back asap when I have questions! By far the best place for my family!

This last visit with my dog was the worst experience I ever had with this clinic, my dog regular doctor is not available on Monday and Tuesday, DR Meyers I believe that’s his name. Has no customer service skills at all before he even looked and my door or even did any test he said your dog is going to die what you want to do, then when I said doc this dog had the same symptoms before and surgery helped him he said well find a surgeon because we are booked until August, what doctor says that it’s called an emergency for a reason... never again will I deal with that doctor I will stick to my normal doctor at that practice

I brought my dog there Today on a SUNDAY and i was told they do not do emergencies on Sundays!!! WHY. But all other days count. My dog is dying from Parvo. They couldnt help my dog because they dont do emergencies on Sundays. Nice

Brought my dog in because she had a cluster of small red bumps that were concerning. The vet barely looked at her, said he didn't know the reasoning - tried to give me $60 tick and flea chewables to treat. Was charged $45 for the 6 minute visit. Waste of my time and money. I will never bring an animal here again. Brought my pup to a new vet because one of the bumps broke open and started to bleed this morning. They informed me of what the issue was gave her a steroid, pills, shampoo, and wipes to treat.
