My fist appointment with Mammas our Tabby Cat at Champion Animal Hospital was expedient. My appointment was at 3:10 and when I got there, there was no long wait. Champion was very flexible with me. I could not make my 11:30 appointment ,but I was able to reschedule for a later appointment on the same day. We have been taking our cats to Companion for close to 25 years. Never have had a problem. Staff has always been great in dealing with our feline fur babies. We have one at this point that has some special medical needs. We also appreciate the fact that they can board the cats when we have been on vacation, allowing us to have peace of mind that they are being taken care of especially the cat that needs medical treatments.

We switched to Companion after a bad experience with another Veterinarian. Our dog needed immediate dental work and Doctor Bender listened to my concerns for my dog and explained how the operation would proceed. Afterwards, she took the time to sit down with us to explain how it went and how to proceed. We have never had that courtesy extended with any of our dogs prior to Companion. All of the staff are friendly and professional. We have no problem bringing our second dog to Companion as well.

This was my first visit to Companion Animal Hospital. I was a little nervous as my corgi can be a bit of a challenge. Dr. Brittany de Wolf was fantastic! I LOVE this Hospital. They have a great staff and an even greater doctor selection. Each one ha their own personality and specialties. They do price higher than some other places but they are AAHA accredited and you do pay a little more for better care and procedures. They are very knowledgeable and can explain things to you so that even a child could understand. I would highly recommend this hospital to anyone who is looking for absolute excellence. Friendly people but not very knowledgeable. My dog suffered from an autoimmune disorder for 2 years before it was diagnosed- by a different vet (Companion brushed the problem aside and ignored the symptoms in repeated visits). They push all manner of unnecessary and expensive vaccines and insist on costly treatments for things that don't need treating, like teeth cleanings (which another vet told me wasn't needed). My dog behaves wonderfully, and let them give her two vaccines without issue and after she tried to run from the third (which I later learned was not necessary), they restrained her without my permission. I intervened and declined the third. The new vet sits on the floor with her and doesn't take advantage of her calm demeanor. Again- friendly people, but they will take advantage of you, and certainly aren't very knowledgable or caring.

My cat Bellini has been ill and Dr. Kim Dodd was fantastic as she contacted me regularly to see how my 'little girl' was doing and offered excellent advice...I would highly recommend this facility for care of your pets...from boarding, to annual checkups/shots and to life threatening incidents.....I am new to the area, therefore it was vitally important to me to find a place so caring for my feline family...

They are thorough, but to the point they just want money from you. I made an optional appointment to know if the stitches were recovering okay. They said the stitches were healing fine, but still they wanted us to come back a week later. Yeah, I'm not paying ANOTHER 50 dollars for a simple visit. I brought my dog for an annual with them, and oh my goodness. I wish I had known I could have gotten them so much cheaper elsewhere. It costed nearly $200 for everything. This is just for one dog! I'm scared to find out how much a visit for a serious injury would cost. I highly recommend you go somewhere else if you don't mind the drive since there are no other vets in Groton.

I had to bring my 10 yr old lab there today to get put down. It was a very difficult experience for me but the staff here made it a lot easier. Dr. De Wolf and her assistant Olivia were fantastic. They made the process a lot easier, gave me all the time I needed to spend with my boy. I sincerely thank them very much. Currently have had our beloved Abaco here since 7:30, the ‘nurses’ immediately administered oxygen, and prepared an oxygen full body immersion chamber for her, she is sleeping peacefully after 15 minutes in there.....so far this is an awesome place!!!!!

Very clean facility. They have a nice cozy waiting room and even offer coffee. Friendly staff at the front desk. Vets are good with animals however they do not seem as knowledgeable as I'd hoped. Perhaps they are just "old school" for lack of better explanation. They are also quite expensive. I have found that some of the same services and medications they offer are cheaper at other vets in the area(Mystic, GalesFerry & New London) just to name a few. Do not limit yourself when it comes to your pets health and your finances, do your research!

Companion is a wonderful pet hospital. Mr. Dr. Mummert and his wife Mrs. Dr. Mummert have been providing medical services for decades. They are always available and knowledgeable and have continually recruited great staff to help them provide the best veterinary service in the area. The other Drs. there are great as well and the technical, clerical and boarding staff have always been kind, compassionate and helpful. We have been customers for over 12 years and would not take our two dogs and two cats anywhere else. Thanks Companion for the great service!

So disappointed with this vet. I've taken many cats to different vets, but this was my first time bringing a dog. I called around to get quotes for our very specific needs (just a rabies shot for my boyfriend's dog, which would need to be accompanied by a general physical). The woman I spoke to on the phone gave me a reasonable, specific quote, so I made the appointment. She also told me to bring a stool sample. When I arrived at the appointment, I was happy to find the facility clean and bright. The staff were friendly and gentle with our nervous pup. I checked in, filled out paperwork, and handed over the stool sample as I had been instructed. I confirmed that I was here for the dog's physical and vaccine. Once inside the examination room, the doctor did the physical checkup (weight, temperature, etc.). The doctor then administered TWO shots -- rabies and distemper. She also suggested a variety of other treatments (heartworm and parasite prevention treatments, procedures for luxating patellas, surgery to fix a hernia). I asked a lot of questions and made sure to get additional literature to take home to research and discuss with my boyfriend, but I made it clear that I was only here for the basic things I had been quoted on, and any additional procedures would need to be approved by my boyfriend. In terms of handling, the nurse and doctor were wonderful with the dog; very gentle and caring. However, when I went to check out, the bill was $65 MORE than what had been originally quoted. Apparently, the stool sample analyses and the distemper shots were extra. No one had mentioned this to me until this point. When I expressed my concern, the secretary simply said, "I'm sorry." The secretary volunteered to "go back and check to see if the fecal analyses has already been started", but when she came back, all she said was, "I'm sorry, it's already been set up". We went over the original quote I'd been given again, and the discrepancies with the items on the receipt. I said I'd been led to believe the stool sample was included as part of the general physical because of the way I had been instructed to bring it, and I assumed the second shot was included because I had NOT ASKED FOR IT (these should be administered once every 3 years and the dog is barely 2 years old!). I reconfirmed the price that I had originally been quoted and expressed that I was upset and my boyfriend would be too. I am very non-confrontational, so I didn't make a scene and didn't press any further. What makes this whole situation so much worse is how it was handled from this point on. My boyfriend called the vet to dispute the charges and to discuss why the vet had not been clear or upfront about the extra costs. They agreed to refund the cost of the fecal analysis -- because it had NOT ACTUALLY BEEN ANALYZED YET (they'd lied to me in the office). They said a manager would call back later to discuss a refund for the distemper shot. The manager did not call back. My boyfriend called again today, and the manager who spoke with him was rude, unprofessional, and condescending. She avoided questions and did not apologize or take any ownership for the lack of transparency or communication. In fact, she blamed ME, saying that I was probably not telling the whole truth, and that I should have asked more questions. Needless to say, my boyfriend was livid. It's a shame, because the nurses and doctors seem to be friendly people, and were genuinely good with the animals I saw them interact with. We will definitely not be going back to this vet, and unless you are prepared to defend yourself to a rude, unprofessional manager, I don't recommend you go there, either.

They charge to much for a simple toe nail removal. They kept my son waiting for an unreasionable llength of time and he had to get to sleep as he worked 3rd shift and because he also took care of my dieing husband and me too as I am handicaped and home bound. My Kit was the love of my life. She was adopted as she had been over bread and the superior court took her away from her previous owner. My Kit was never sick, her stools were perfect and her mobile Vet was from a protecious vetinary college. The best college in the USA. She never found anything wrong with my Kit but a little overweight from being spoiled. When my son brought Kit back late she was in so much pain that my husband could hear her screams all the way upstairs. I could not hear this as I have a hearing loss but I saw her drag her little foot and her tongue hung out as she tried desperately to get a drink of water. The Vet never gave her any pain meds and when my son took her back the next day he said that Kit only wimpered. Again when she was brought home still in horrable pain and I was up all night with her. When my son came home from work he took us to a wonderful Vet and he gave us 2 options to spend $2,000 I think to amputate her foot or put her down. With a broken heart because I did not want her to suffer any longer I had her put down. As I kissed her still warm body goodby and my husband returned with the money to pay the Vet he was upset because he wanted to be there when she was put down. I have my beloved Kit's ashes in a beautiful Box and with instructions from the funeral directer, who buried my wonderful husband, Kit will be buried with me when I pass. This vet did something wrong and I will never know as I had it investigated and they found no violations. Now if you read this all my Kit was on was Pronin and I had reduced the dosage as this vet had given her to much and she was sleeping all the time. She was 12 years old and never ill or in any pain until after the removal of that toe nail.
