Dr. Smith is amazing! Her and her staff have gone WAY out of their way to help me and my animals. I have witnessed them going to great lengths to help not only animals but comfort and inform clients. I have also witnessed Dr smith saving animals that many others would think had no hope. She is always available... ALWAYS! This can lead to clients having longer than normal wait times on occasion, but I am willing to sacrifice my time in order for her to do a life saving procedure on someones beloved animal, because I know she will always be there if and when I need my turn.

Awful Experience- We had been a client of this practice for 27 years. Last year (2017) Dr. Smith had to put down our German Shepherd, "Spike" by reason of Lymphoma. We recently adopted a Chihuahua. As of yet we hadn't had reason to bring her to the Vet. This AM she became ill. She's a 9 lb. dog and we are concerned about dehydration. After a 7 minute hold, "Amanda" came back on the line and advised us that the Doctor isn't seeing non-client pets today, and that our last visit was in 2016. Not only did they get the dates incorrectly, but to refuse to see a pet because they are busy? Dr. Smith was right there to accept $3,500 for Surgery on one of our dogs some years ago. Today she is unavailable to deal with a sick Chihuahua from a long time client who also happens to be a health care professional. That practice will never see us again.

I actually give this place no stars, and the fact that I have to give it 1 star to have this posted makes me sick. The vet overdosed my dog and she didn't make it. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone unless you plan on getting ripped off 1000 dollars and burying your family's pet. The staff also seems to be very uneducated, and disrespectful with no regards to the loss of my loved one. I hope anyone who has had the opportunity to read this spreads the word to never go here unless you have a death wish for your family pet

Unfortunately I think this place has gone down hill. Most of the new staff is unfriendly. The switch up of regularly available products like flea and tick meds have changed. It's obvious they are run by kick backs. More concerned about pushing new products and vaccines than care. I understand they're there for my animal and not for me but if someone brings you a sick animal that could be dieing and you just hand them off after testing with out even a word on what could be going on something is off.

I specifically asked how much my visit would be before I went was told $72 Once I arrived they told me with everything he needs it's actually going to be $120 when all is said and done I had spent $173 so they're clearly and confident and don't know how to answer a simple question I won't be going back. Called vet told them cats ear was swollen after a cat fight. I was told to bring him in or his ear would be disfigured. Brought him in and they stitched it in a way that it would never heal right. When he got another hematoma I put stuff on it and it broke on it’s own and was perfect.

Honestly, I am not one to share but this vet is the worst. The staff are so unprofessional, rude and have no sympathy when something is wrong with your pet. I have a 1yr old chocolate lab and when I first got him, he was on a special food diet so I had to buy his food directly from the vet. It went well until I had to ask them 4 different times to order the bigger bag of food because I went through the small bag so quick, mind you it was 17lbs of food for $60. I asked them 4 times to order the 80lb bag and they said they will and they will call me when it is in. No phone call each time I had asked. I would go in myself and ask them to order it, they never did or they would say "I don't remember you requesting that" so we ended up changing his food all together because I was sick of relying on them. Another case was when I took my dog to get neutered, he was supposed to be there that whole afternoon. They said the surgery would begin around 1pm, and he will be in recovery until 6pm and then we can go pick him up. I get a phone call at 3pm and they told me I need to come pick him up because he is "crying too much in his crate". Mind you, he just went through surgery and is probably scared and in pain. Nope, we had to go pick him up right away. I took my dog home and he could barely walk and he was crying and bleeding from his incision and they did not care, they wanted him to leave because they could not deal with his crying. My last complaint is I called the vet to see which flea and tick prevention would be the most effective, the liquid you put on the dogs back or the pill. I asked a staff member what would be better and she said "it depends on your preference" and could not get off the phone quick enough. Obviously I had called to see which one was better because I am new to this and I just want what is best for my dog, but I guess my question was too much of a bother to them. I hope other people come out and share their thoughts on this vet. I am happy to say I will be picking up my dogs records and never going back.

I rarely post reviews but after reading a few of these I felt compelled. First, everything dies - unfortunately an animal can't vocalize and are rather stoic to begin with. Often they are in worse shape than we think they are before it becomes apparent our help is needed. Some folks like to blame, I suppose it makes them feel better. People die too - cancer for example, it kills a lot of us. This doesn't mean every oncologist that loses a patient is incompetent. I and my animals have been clients for over 20 years with nothing but positive experiences and always at a good price. That includes a put to sleep, compound fractures, and some long term illnesses that require maintenance. By the way, whether or not your loved one passes, that oncologist, much like your local vet, expects to be paid for services rendered. Anyway, my humble opinion. Good practice, knowledgeable staff, compassionate, fair prices, AND BEST AVAILABILITY AROUND!! Nice to have someone work to accommodate my hours and for that I say thank you.

I have had Dr.Smith as my veterinarian since she first began her veterinary career. I have entrusted all my animals to her. The animal hospital of Putnam has a wonderful staff, all the techs are caring and polite. I am treated, as my animals, as family when I have an appointment. The Veterinarian's on staff are informative with needed information about your animals and are very compassionate at the worst times.

Picked up a huge, lovable pit bull at the shelter and brought him here the next day. He's a bit of a handful for my 100 pound body so he was excited and pulling. The staff at this place seemed extremely judgemental. My dog is not trained at all and spent the last month at the shelter. He went into sensory overload and the staff looked at me like I was an idiot for adopting such a handful. Plus I went there just for his first two shots. I don't get paid until the end of the week and we didn't know we were getting him this early. The doctor or nurse, they never introduced themselves, kept asking if I wanted him to have his other shots, if I wanted him checked for certain diseases, if I wanted him microchipped. I had to keep saying "not right now" because each procedure cost more money and I couldn't pay it that day. I felt like she looked down on me and thought I wasn't going to take care of my dog. I will be making all the necessary appointments at the end of the week just probably not with this judgmental place. To my dismay his neutering appointment is for tomorrow here and I'm not looking forward to it. I'm bringing the strong bf to handle our cuddlebug and to tell the staff to fix their faces if they look at us with contempt. Would only recommend this place for someone with a well behaved pedigree and cash to throw around at a moments notice. Only positive note is they seem to know what they are talking about when it comes to dogs. The doctor/ nurse mentioned to keep an eye out of ear infections (he has chopped ears) and that pits usually have issues with their paws.

Friendly Staff, clean office but best of all they SAVED my Black Lab from dying of Lyme Disease. I can't say enough about the care we received at the Animal Hospital of Putnam. My Dog was literally at death's door after taking a downward plummet from Lyme disease, but Dr. Smith and her staff saved our beloved family pet. Thank you just doesn't cover the gratitude and thankfulness that fills my heart.

The entire staff at Putnam Animal Hospital are dedicated, caring, and treat each animal as if it were their own. Today was a difficult day. My son and his girlfriend/my "daughter" lost their kitten. The staff canceled other appointments to ensure they had time to hold and say goodbye. Because my daughter was alone and I didn't have my vehicle at the time, a member of the staff came to my house to pick me up and bring me to be with her until my son could get there. Everyone was in tears and Dr. Smith took the time to come in and tell us that my daughter gave the rescued kitten the best life in the last month and did nothing wrong. The pre-anesthesia test was done but the poor kitten clearly had something wrong with her. There were no charges. There was only a caring and supportive family whose heart was just as heavy as ours. Thank you to every member of the Putnam Animal Hospital for all that you do everyday and how much you care!!

If I could rate negatives I would. My husband called about having my ailing cat put to sleep, because she stopped eatting. He told the receptionist that currently our NEW vet had us scheduled on Monday but we needed earlier because she was extremely sick. Before we could get another word out she asked who our vet was, we told her. Very rudely she tells my husband we have no openings and they hung up on us. Luckily another vet were able to fit us in that day to help my cat. Mind you this cat had only ever been seen by this office if we took her in. Worst customer service. Worst hospital if you care about your animals take them somewhere else.

Absolutely love this place! I used to take my pets to a closer vet, but the treatment and pricing make it worth the extra time to get there. The staff are all extremely helpful and although some are obviously more pet knowledgeable than others, we are able to get all our questions answered. My pets have had numerous health issues, even requiring emergency care and the doctors and staff were exceptional during these scares. I love that no matter what is going on or what time of the day/night that if my pets need attention, I just call them and they are taken care of; they see the pets at their facility so you don't get referred to an emergency office where you or your pet has never been to. Their prices are very reasonable and they understand that although your pet is a family member, finances are a concern, so they try to work with you whenever possible, keeping the pet's well being in mind.

All the reviews on here must be from employees or family friends. This place is horrible and they just care about money not your pet. Have had a few bad experiences here and the last one resulting in the death of my family's beloved pet. They as far as I'm concerned took my money and knew what the outcome would be before hand. Which turned into a rather expensive death for something that was supposed to be routine. This place and everyone involved can rot in hell. I wouldn't recommend this place unless you plan on getting ripped off.

Animal hospital of Putnam is the best vet in the quiet corner. They have been nothing but kind to me and my dogs, and they answer all of my (many) questions with patience. I recently had an emergency situation involving both of my dogs, and not only did they fit me right in to their busy schedule, they also helped me calm down and provided me with information about what happened and how to avoid it if it ever happens in the future. I also think that their prices are very fair. The exam fee that I paid for both of my dogs was way less than the exam fee I have paid at another local vet. All in all, I will definitely always take all of my pets to AHOP from now on, based on the positive experiences I have had.

Wonderful wonderful experience with this vet. They genuinely saved my dogs' life after he was run over by the UPS truck. Poor old Rusty is getting on and moves slow and is hard of hearing. He was outside napping in the driveway and didn't hear the truck but he started screaming with blood just dripping from his mouth. I called my vet but they couldn't see him so I just drove to the next town and Putnam vet took him right away. Turns out he had a broken jaw and a popped lung. Dr. Smith and everyone else there was so kind and caring. I was crying like a baby. They kept him there a few days to fix him up and he was wagging when I went to pick him up. I am so thankful for their expertise and truly caring about what I was going through. They truly are the best! They also put Rusty on some new medicine that is making him alot more active again.

We have an elderly cat and The Putnam Animal Hospital takes excellent care of him. They give good instructions and they will write down info if you need it. They also give clear news or instructions over the phone. The other excellent work they do is being compassionate and understanding and patient with us, with all the of the owners/parents who bring our pets in, whether for well-pet checkups or for issues small or serious.

A few years ago Dr. Smith saved my English bulldog with emergency surgery after another emergency vet misdiagnosed him and send him home with an antibiotic. She took the time to discuss what was happening to my dog, and what my options entailed. Recently, Dr. Smith completed a successful entropion surgery on my puppy. Once again, Dr. Smith took the time to explain my dog's condition, the surgery, and how she was recovering. I continue to use Putnam Veterinary Hospital because I trust the vets and have confidence in their knowledge and experience.
