This vet clinic is simply wonderful. While I did receive bad news that my kitty had cancer, the vet techs and vets themselves were kind, compassionate and helpful in the treatment of my kitty. I had taken him in to another vet clinic to find answers as to why he wasn't eating and acting off and what I received was an unprofessional and rude vet who did not even discover he had cancer. She sent me home with treatment for another issue he had. When he did not get better I reached out to High Plains and they got my kitty in immediately and properly diagnosed him. Since then Dr. Teepe has called me every couple days to check on my poor kitty who most likely does not have long to live. They are simply amazing, wonderful and caring people. They are personal and truly care for the animals they treat and their owners.

Dr. McKinney and her team were absolutley wonderful during an extremely sad time for us. We had to admit our 6 week old puppy named Prince on a Saturday at the ER. We didn't have a regular vet for him yet so on Monday morning when the ER closed we decided to take him to High Plains to continue his parvo treatment. Dr. McKinney and her team were very compassionate and did everything they could for him. On Wednesday June 6th we had to put our puppy down and it was very emotional. That day we received flowers from the team at High Plains and a couple days later we received a heartfelt card from Dr. McKinney herself. I appreciate the care they gave Prince and our family.

The staff are very caring and patient and understanding. We were there today for one of the most difficult things one has to deal with as a fur baby owner. We had to put our beloved Boss to sleep today. The staff was very kind and thoughtful not only to us but most importantly to Boss. I was VERY impressed with everything about this animal hospital! I recently took my geriatric pup in for immunizations and exam and loved the care he received. Everyone from the front office to the back was extremely friendly. My old pup saw Dr Leyman who was very thorough and listened to all of my concerns being sure to address them all. She made sure before we left I understood all treatment that was and was not recommended. The vet tech was also very thorough and helpful. I explained that cost was a concern so she broke down and showed me all options and did not pressure me for declining on some. I will definitely be back in with my other younger guy.

Very professional and compassionate. At this instance we had to make a difficult decision and we decided it was in our Boxers best interest that she be laid to rest. She was very sick and suffering. The doctor (I'm sorry I'm not able to recall her name off the top of my head) brought us in immediately, gave her oxygen and pain meds. She also spent time with us, went over options with us and I truly feel her heart broke that day. I think any Veterinary team who will get in the floor, love on your pet and show true care for their best interest not just the dollar to be made is a Vet who is worth every penny! My son has had Tinkerbelle for many years and she helped him though many health crisis. Very loyal and protective! Because of Tinkerbelle and her goofiness we have our grandson and wonderful daughter in law :) My son and his wife met because of her! We have traveled from Pueblo West to see one of the doctors who did knee surgery on another of our dogs and we had a wonderful experience then as well! Even our dog was glad to see him when we did our recheck! Over all it has always been a rewarding and positive experience here! The front office crew is great and everyone is very knowledgable, compassionate and so helpful if you need them. I cannot thank them enough:) This is a fantastic Veterinary free if your looking for a safe place to take your pets!

I've been a pet owner for nearly 40 years and have used a number of veterinary practices in the Pikes Peak Region. High Plains, without question, is the best. To a person, from the very helpful front desk, to the techs and the veterinarians, all of the staff care for the pets as if they were their own. The facility itself is immaculate and state of the art.

This is the best vet clinic we have ever associated with. They are friendly, understanding, caring and reasonable. The staff takes care of you thoughtfully, even when they are jammed with check ins. Dr. McKinney has been our vet from almost the first day they opened and you couldn't ask for a more empathetic and caring person. The few times she was not available, we saw a couple of other doctors who are just as wonderful as she. They run specials on different types of care for your pet, i.e. dental cleaning, and with 4 pets, it is great to have that option. The location is great and there is always enough parking. I highly recommend anyone to check them out.

Arrived on time only to be told they don't do the international health certificate. Now I'm stuck finding a new vet today so I can travel. DO NOT TRUST THIS VET, I DID AND IT WAS A HUGE MISTAKE.

They were wonderful. The nurses were very helpful, nice, and attentive to my cat. The Dr very very knowledgeable, explained everything that was going on in detail and where I could understand it. She also made sure to go over every option, and tried to tailor our options to our financial situation while keeping my cats health primarily in mind. We used to live off of marksheffel and constitution which is super close to high plains. We bought a house on the south end of town and we still make the trek up to the same vet. You guys are the best we’ve ever taken our pets to! The staff are always so friendly and know us by name. It’s apparent that everyone there loves animals and wants to be there. We recently had some issues with one of our dogs and they were so caring and did a good job dealing with not only us and our human emotions but taking great care of our pup. I’d recommend them to anyone looking for a trustworthy vet to take their fur babies to.

(4/5/18)With our previous dog, we used another vet recommended by family. At first it was good, but over the years, service went downhill and costs increased. We began to feel like we were being given the runaround simply to make the clinic more money. After saying goodbye to that dog earlier this year and adopting a new dog, we were on the lookout for a new veterinary clinic, so we asked around for friend recommendations. Enter High Plains Veterinary. Out of all of the recommendations, this one received the most votes from our friends, so we scheduled our appointment and took our new dog to see them. From the moment we walked through the door, we were greeted with smiles and pleasant attitudes. The front desk associates were kind and thorough for their part of the appointment, and our wait time was minimal before we saw the vet/doctor. She too was fantastic and explained everything about our mixed breed, sharing precautions to take, recommended care, and possible markers to place on our watch list. She was great with our dog and even managed to get her to eat a treat, which is a struggle sometimes for us unless it's a specific brand. All the way to the checkout and scheduling a follow-up for a booster shot, we felt valued, and everyone remembered my name as well as my dog's. Since then, we have been kept informed of needs and notified of all things to keep in mind for future care. Overall, I am quite impressed with the professionalism, courtesy, and outstanding care for our dog thus far. We look forward to a long relationship with this clinic/hospital. Update (8/26/18) - We have adopted a second dog, and we again took him to see the vet. This time, kennel cough had been rampant in our area, so our new dog caught it. Even though we didn't have an appointment, we were able to get him seen within 30 minutes because the doctor had a quick opening. We received not 1, but 2 follow-up calls to check on him, and we even had to switch medicine mid-treatment to have a more focused medication. We're starting to see the true personality of our dog come out, and I look forward to hearing the report at our next follow-up appointment for booster shots once he's fully healthy again.

I did not have a positive experience in this office. My dog has to have his tail amputated because he had, what turned out to be a benign but large tumor. The surgery wound became infected almost overnight and my dog was in so much pain ...when I called the office the next morning they told me they had no appointments available and to wait for the next day ( are you serious?) . The next day my dog could barely walk in horrible pain ...when they saw me for for 5 minute consultation they agreed that they must be a " slight" infection ( in fact very close to sepsis and had they not seen me I would have gone to the ER ). The wound took a long time to heal and there wasn't any follow up until a week later ... what kind of doctor doesn't check up on an older surgery patient the day after or after complications? I had a small child with me carrying my dog into the office ... the staff just sat there and watched me lug in the dog- my son had to get the door for me - no offer to help- the staff kept chatting with each other - barely paying any attention to patients ... they had my half conscious dog who was in pain ... sit in a waiting area with other patients for quite some time and insist to get his weight on a scale twice - because first time wasn't working right and cause him more pain ... no compassion whatsoever...

Dr. McKenney is my two cats’ doctor. Every time when my cats need medical attention, she gives them great care. She takes time and listens to my concerns and explains medical issues and treatments in detail. She always makes sure that all my questions and concerns are answered. This puts me at great ease when I bring my cats in for just a check up or an illness. I always leave the hospital with the feeling that Dr. McKenney is a very caring, knowledgeable and great doctor who compassionately loves animals. Outstanding care! We've moved to of our animals here recently. All appointments have gone very well. Our mosr challenging dog receives excellent care from Dr. Bizul. She insists on being on site when we bring him in, because she is there stress specialist. He needs this, because he's so high strung, and does very well with his appointments with her. All staff have been very friendly, even when very busy. I highly recommend.

Two years ago, our large 6 year old GSD suddenly developed severe bowel issues, another vet had pre-diagnosed him with prostate cancer which is deadly for a canine. Heartbroken at the thought, we sought a second opinion with High Plains Veterinary Hospital. They performed a thorough exam, performed a CAT scan with reading on site! Their techs and team of vets are versatile and very knowledgeable. They properly diagnosed him, he has a autoimmune inflammatory condition - thank you Dr. Katelyn Dart! Our vet explained the condition and promptly gave us a successful treatment plan to manage Sabre's chronic condition. They are a team that shares their knowledge and expertise with each other - so you have a broad range of expertise with your pet's care. Our GSD has been healthy and happy ever since! He is seen on routine annual health checks now! We love High Plains Vet Hospital Team and thank them for saving our beloved Sabre.

If you're only looking for routine vet visits for shots, this place is fine. If you're pet actually has a problem, you can probably do a better job looking on Google for answers. The biggest complaint we have with this vet is they will do five tests with inconclusive answers and a high bill rather than a more definitive test that may have been a bit more, but would have saved money in the long run. And along the way with those tests, they inevitably find something new that "could be something" which, of course, requires more tests. This has happened to us twice. They would also rather let a pet die than recommend you take them to a specialists/vet school for diagnosis and treatment. This literally happened just last week with a dog we were sitting for. They never suggested to the owner that he should go somewhere else because they had no clue what was wrong. We will be finding a new vet.

Like many other people, my dogs are my children and I love them deeply. I took my little girl in yesterday for an ear infection and Dr. McKinney found a mass in her leg. She ended up staying there for a biopsy surgery. Although my heart breaks for this little girl and what her outcome might be, I could not be more pleased with the entire staff. Every single employee was so incredibly kind, professional, and empathetic. They loved my dog and cared for her just as I would. I am beyond grateful to everyone there for how they treated my family. I know my dog was probably afraid, but it gave me great comfort knowing that she was never alone. Thank you all - Gloria will give you all kisses the next time.

Very nice local veterinary hospital! We recently adopted a dog who came down with a UTI. Even though we weren't in their system yet, they went above and beyond to accommodate us and get our dog seen that day. Took Bella Thompson in today and she has a UTI...when i checked out and tried to make her follow up appointment i wanted to make it on a Saturday so i do not have to take time off work because of their limited hours. They proceeded to tell me that I could not have a Sat appointment because the vet that saw her today wanted to see her for her re-check. I asked why i couldn't see another vet in the same office and no one could give me a reason...So i politely said that is unfortunate since instead of seeing another vet in your office i will take her to a whole new office ...now how does that make any sense????

Each vet that has seen my dogs has been clear and concise with recommended treatments, but I never felt pressured to agree to the treatments. Best vets in town IMO.

Absolutely heartbroken. This has been my vet since moving to Colorado. After being a patient for years with multiple pets, the office refused to take responsibility for causing extreme anxiety/heartache for our family by completely misdiagnosing my pet and attempting to swindle us out of even more money. My dog, who is normally friendly and happy, was visibly afraid and uncomfortable with the last vet we saw (who ended up misdiagnosing her). The environment of the office over the years has shifted from loving and welcoming to treating everything as a business transaction. The vets don't stick around long in the office (which also speaks volumes), so you will probably be forced to retell your story to the new hires they constantly have. I will never recommend this place and have been informing others (whom I referred to the business) about our experience, many who have already decided to leave or have left due to the same feelings and experiences. Edit: After your reply, High Plains Veterinary Hospital, I am very disappointed that you still refuse to admit any wrongdoing, when I have proof from other certified offices that say otherwise. I also found other reviews on this page where animals were misdiagnosed and in some cases died due to poor care. I called today to explain my experience to prevent it from happening to others, but even after being a patient for so long, I am sad to see that this is how you respond (especially with personal information in a public post). That said, I hope something positive comes of this and changes the way you do business because it obviously needs some work. Best of luck.

Every single veterinarian there gets on the floor with her while doing the examination and administering her vaccinations. We have even had an emergency surgery where they got me in immediately and their surgery price was extremely competitive.

I usually take my two pooches here for routine checkups, which are pretty hard to mess up. However, recently I took my 9 year old in for a dental cleaning. Her teeth were pretty bad and they ended up having to extract 4 teeth in total (3 more than was priced out in the estimate). Needless to say, I was incredibly worried about my girl (my dog) but she recovered very fast (even at 9 years old) and was back to her normal self within 2 days. In addition to that, my bill wasn't any higher than the initial quote. No surprises, no hidden fees. I highly recommend this vet for anyone who has 4 legged canine family members!

Great office. The front staff was wonderful and Dr. Leyman was honest and did good with our dog. Our German Shepherd, Max, is almost 12 and she didn't encourage tests or medications. She left the decision of care up to us. We will be back and found a vet for life.

Our first experience with high plains was having to put our old pup down. The staff was wonderful through out the difficult experience. Our pup had more treats then he has ever had. They were so kind to us and him. Of course they gave us options but in the end we knew the right thing to do for Our suffering pup was to help ease his suffering. We originally went there because it was more affordable then other vets in the area. His ashes came in a beautiful box and we also got hair clippings and a paw print. We even got hugs in our way out. Maggie May was a rescue. We took her to High Plains Veterinary Hospital as soon as we got her. She had distemper was malnourished and very sick. The petsitting service I use, Playtime Petsitters (they are fabulous by the way), recommended High Plains Veterinary Hospital and I am so glad they did! My cat turns into an absolute demon at the vet and Dr. Bizzul was the first to give me medication to calm him down before visits so she can properly examine him - both of his previous vets, while they were fabulous in other ways, never offered that. She is also the first to give me something for his allergies. Despite my cat being a complete brat, Dr. Bizzul and the vet tech were both so kind!

Pricey, but you get what you pay for. Everyone there is very professional and gives personal touches to your pet. For example: Each pet has their picture taken at their first visit and it's attached to their file! They're all gentle and pleasant to the animals. **UPDATE First, if you believe your employees are not “paid for what they are worth” then that is a staffing and payroll issue to workout amongst yourselves and should not have anything to do with this review. I never asked for free services. I never said prices were outrageous.. said some services are pricey. I also stated I didn’t like how I wasn’t being referred to a dog salon next door for the nail trimmings when the office offers it. I also said I wasn’t upset about my dog being muzzled and I understand the safety of the employees are first. I was upset about not being communicated about it. Also, I stated my biggest complaint was the front receptionist and phone calls often not answered and having to leave a message. Your response to justify “priority of care” doesn’t apply when again your two receptionist are having a conversation amongst themselves when someone is waiting to pay and leave as well as the phone rings. This has occurred two out of four times I brought in my dogs. So please relay to your staff about communication to owners for sure but also back to your reviews because now this is just a more sour part to not return to this hospital. The vets and vet techs are very knowledgeable and friendly. Usually when I’ve tried to call the front desk isn’t available to answer the phone. They won’t answer the phone when they are with a patient owner which I can respect but I’ve have been in there and even waited to pay for care while the phone was ringing, and a conversation was going on amongst the receptionist. So, when my phone call isn’t answered and I have to leave a message is not settling after that experience. Some charges are a little bit pricey (like nail trimmings) and I didn’t like that it was just offered to take my animals to a pet salons next to them. After my dog had an emergency and was seen at the emergency room I was recommended to get him to his regular vet. I was told they earliest they had for an emergency visit was next Tuesday or the had recommended I take my dog to the emergency room if he was having an emergency (the emergency room had sent them papers of his visit). I’ve had great experiences there but I am just not satisfied with this experience and also some of the prices that ultimately had me switch. Something I did find out is when I paid for the nail trimming for one of my dogs I guess he was muzzled him because he had maybe growled. And I understand the safety of the vet and the vet techs first, I was upset that I didn’t know he was muzzled. It was my fault for not even looking at the bill because I’m sure I was charged for it, but still am disappointed for not being verbally told that they had to do this. This can be a great office if you have the patience and have an animal that doesn’t have emergencies.

I was nervous as Will is afraid of everything and had already been thru a lot with movers, airplanes, and new surroundings. The staff was extremely friendly and very helpful as we checked in and filled out the paperwork. They even called our previous vet to clarify Will’s records. He required an aggressive pain management, surgeries and daily visits for several weeks. We went to High Plans Veterinary Hospital a month back we knew are dog was not in good health and we wanted to just get reassurance that he needed to be put down. We went in the dr we saw was very honest with us and told us it was completely up to us and that whatever he has going on was very rapid and it need rapid medication and or treatment, at that point I asked her if rolls were reversed what would she do. She told me I would not make him suffer anymore. I like the fact that they did not mislead us into testing and stuff that could not make him better all for money. I liked the care and support they showed for us in that difficult time for our family. Highly recommend them!!

We are new to Colorado Springs and we had no idea where to take our large and young German Shepherd when he came down with a nasty ear infection. We asked around and a couple people mentioned High Plains, and so we gave them a try. Upon arrival we were warmly greeted and only had to wait a few minutes before we got sent back. Once in patient room we waited just another few more minutes before my dog was being looked at and treated. Overall the clinic was clean, and they were kind to both my dog and children. The whole experience took us under 30 minutes and I never felt like were not taking my dog's problem seriously. The pricing was right on par with what I was expecting, so overall a very good experience.
