We are traveling in an rv and needed a vet to check out our little dog's eye. We called at 8 am and they said they could see our dog at 9:30. Dr karen Ricketts checked out our dog's eye with a scope, stained it, and told us his eye had been poked with something and was on the mend. She thoroughly explained to us there was no foreign body in the eye. She was very carrying, knowledgeable and her 28 years of experience showed. She spent a lot of time with us answering questions. She showed us an easy way to apply the ointment in the eye. Everyone was very caring and professional. The facility is extremely clean. She told us we could continue using the meds we already had, did not try to sell us anything we did not need. Fair price for exam and staining.

If you want to have peace of mind when you take your pet to a veterinarian this is the place to go. We've gone to other veterinarians and I've never seen such money hungry people. One veterinarian on Garden of the Gods next to Wells and Fargo was to extract one of our dogs teeth but wanted to take them all out which I found was unacceptable . When we took our dog to the one on Fillmore they were friendly as can be courteous and made you feel at ease being there. We met the veterinarian as friendly as can be informed us looking over his records what our dog needed and what he didn't need and save us money as well. Our dog who is very close to us showed no fear and was very relaxed in the arms of the veterinarian which relieved us as well . I highly recommend this veterinarian if you love your animal .

I don't think the negative reviews posted below are really for this Veterinary Hospital. I have been a client here for close to 15 years and have always been welcomed with open arms, smiling faces, and terrific attitudes by EVERYONE. I am nobody special except a long-time client. Dr. Cor VanderWel has had some secondary Veterinarians come and go over the years, but he has remained consistent with his compassion for both the animals and the humans. I would not trust my pets to anyone else, even after moving out-of-state and returning after 4 years. My hubby asked me to consider changing to a vet closer to home, but I refuse to do so! Dr. Cor forever!

We have lived in several states, and have always had companion animals that we regard as our "fur-babies". We have been taking our pets to Dr. Cor since he started with the practice in '83. Years ago.we were out of town & had left our little dog with our neighbors - she developed a cold, so we called Cor & told him about it. He checked in with our neighbors, and even stopped by! They were very impressed with his caring - said not even their pediatrician was as caring. Then we had another dog with us at our winter home, & when she became ill, we took her to a vet there. After a number of tests (that cost LOTS), we were told that her illness was due to the fact that she was a spayed older female (she was 5 1/2). We drove back to CO the next day with the lab tests to show Cor what had been done. He took one look at the tests and was able to tell that she had cancer. He even came to our house when it was finally time to say goodbye. Our next pup was diagnosed with diabetes. She had to spend a lot of time at their hospital, and everyone there was so kind & loving, she would whimper in the car if I went in without her! Irene & the other techs there spoil both us and our babies. I am so confident with their knowledge, caring, and professionalism that I call them for advice even after our AZ vets (who are also very good) take care of them. Wish I could find a doctor for us that cared as much as Dr, Cor!

I had to take my reptile in for an exam after I removed him from some wood decor he got stuck in. My ackie monitor is both very hard to hold and still a baby yet Dr. Rahm had no trouble conducting his exam. He is a very knowledgeable vet and has many years experience working in reptile medicine and programs. The staff all were great and very excited to see my lizard too! The clinics price was very reasonable as well. Will be definitely taking my all of my reptiles to this clinic in the future.

Dr. Cor has been my vet since 1986. Today, I called to make an appointment to take my cat in because he began having difficulty urinating over the weekend. The receptionist could not find me in their system; not by my name, my phone number, or by any of my cat's names. So essentially I am no longer welcome there as a client. In February I had taken my cat in as an emergency on a Saturday morning, and was turned away by Dr. Alex because I didn't have an appointment. (I had called the clinic early that morning and left a message explaining what was going on and that I would be there when they opened.) The receptionist informed me that Dr. Alex refused to see my cat, who had an obvious UTI because he was peeing blood. I was informed to take my cat an emergency animal hospital, in front of the other clients who were in the waiting room. How embarrassing. There was another person there as an emergency walk in, and Dr. Alex agreed to see them. They had a dog with a sore on it's side. Certainly not the kind of treatment I expected, especially because I am an established client with a long history there. Needless to say, I was totally outraged and could not believe I was refused care for my sick cat. I ended up going to Yorkshire Animal Hospital and was seen immediately because, according to them, this was an emergency. The following Monday, Dr. Cor called me and apologized. Since my cat was still showing signs of distress due to the UTI, Dr. Cor said he would see him. This was with the understanding that I would not be able to pay the bill right away. Honestly, I don't think I should have even been charged due to the horrible and down right disrespectful treatment by Dr. Alex. About a week after Dr. Cor had treated my cat, he called me to check on my cat, and ask about the payment. Also, I had written a review, which was not favorable at all, because of Dr. Alex. Dr. Cor asked me to change the review I had written, which I did. Unfortunately, it took me longer to get the bill paid than I had planned. But I did pay what I owed in full. So fast forward to today. The receptionist had already given me an appointment time until she couldn't find me in the system. Imagine my shock in discovering that I am no longer welcome there as a client after 31 years simply because I was not able to pay that previous bill right away. Once again, my cat was sick with an emergency situation and I was refused care. Oh, and I had the money for the appointment. I called Yorkshire and they told me I didn't need an appointment and to bring my cat in right away, that he was in an emergency situation. They took us back as soon as we arrived. The care and respect we received was more than worth the $200 I paid today. I will never recommend Dr. Cor or Fillmore Veterinary to anyone, ever. Out of loyalty and courtesy I had removed my previous negative review, as Dr. Cor had asked me to do. Not this time. Not after the unprofessional way I was treated. Not after being denied care twice for an emergency. Not after being a loyal client for 31 years. Not after I was removed as a client without even a notice. Shame on you.

Last year our 14 yo pup was diagnosed with a rare cancer and all of her treatments and check-ups were conducted at CSU Veterinary Teaching Hospital. And because of this, we hadn't established a primary veterinarian since moving to Colorado Springs. Earlier this week our pup declined quickly, so quickly we had to make the difficult decision to end her suffering in a blink of an eye. After quickly reading such positive reviews of Fillmore Veterinary Hospital, I called and they were able to schedule an emergency euthanasia for our dying pup. I can't express how heart broken we are over this. This entire process has felt unreal and we are just shattered and devastated beyond belief. As difficult as it is to write this review just days after losing our beloved pup, I feel I must, because of the tremendous empathy and care my pup was given by the staff at Fillmore Veterinary Hospital. Dr. Cor VanderWel was gentle and kind, allowed us to hold her in our arms as he quickly put an end to her suffering. Because our pup passed so suddenly, we were scrambling to make arrangements with a certain crematorium in Denver, who would allow us to witness our pup's entire cremation process. Maybe I'm crazy, but our pup was so important to me that I needed to make sure 100% we were getting our pup and only our pup's cremains back. And Fillmore Veterinary Hospital was able to preserve and store our pup until we were ready to pick her up. I really really want to give a million "thank you's" and virtual hugs to Mei-Ling, our tech, and the person who really took care of our pup even after death. She told us how she positioned our pup in her body bag, and we appreciated her care immensely. We weren't expecting to see our pup before cremation, but moments before we started the cremation process they unexpectedly removed her from the bag and we were able to say our final goodbyes. I can't thank Mei-Ling enough for how beautifully she positioned our pet, just as how she would have normally curled up and slept. It really put peace in my heart to see her this way and I am eternally thankful to Mei-Ling for giving us this gift. Thank you Mei-Ling!!! <3 I know that euthanizing a pet does not only take a toll on the pet parents, but in the long term affects all veterinary professionals. But I'm so grateful for the care and respect our pet received at Fillmore Veterinary Hospital. I will definitely be making them our primary veterinary hospital for our other pup. I brought my lil guy Walter in two years ago because of some nodules he had developed on his neck and Dr. Cor went above and beyond to get to the bottom of it. The Rats Nest Have had nothing but bad experiences with this vet and front desk and after today ill be filing a lawsuit. Went to the er the nigh before because our dog dislodged 2 teeth and broke his jaw. Er faxed in his stuff saying it was trauma and needed seen immediately. My wife calls in the next morning and is treated bad again and pushed it off till 2. Go there at 2 and DR can not believe he wasnt seen immediately. Knows this issue with the front desk is a continuous thing. Refuses to do anything about it. Said it wont be untill thursday till we can get him in surgery.(its tuesday) Told us to call around and see if anyone had anything sooner. They didnt. We call Fimore Vet back and now they thought they had Thursday open but now they dont. Dr said the lady at the front desk had personal issues going on and it shouldn't interfere with her work. Probably got left after getting prego because nobody would make the mistake of sleeping with her twice. Also the dr is just as trashy as her chest tattoo. Beware

My cat had to have dental surgery. We were first quoted $1000 minimum by a big box chain veterinary clinic. After my parents took their dogs for their shots at Fillmore, they fell in love with the staff and the way their pets were treated. Without my knowledge, they scheduled my cat's surgery! I, too, love the staff and the way my cat was gently treated. After having all but 3 of his teeth pulled (due to an autoimmune disease), my cat came home and within a week was back to himself again. After another week, we have seen vast improvements in him. He no longer seems to have the pain in his mouth that plagued him for so long, and it is all thanks to Fillmore! Oh, and they charged us less than half of what the other place said. Fillmore is a superb place to bring your fur babies. I am positive I will be a lifelong devotee. I definitely recommend this place for all of your pet's needs.

Don’t try and get your dog in for an emergency even if they have already seen the dog for the problem. They will not get you in. Had my dog on antibiotics and steroids for a month and the infection came back. They just do not care. Alex Rahm misdiagnosed my dog saying she had an infection when in fact it is cancer. Now I am watching my dig die because of his misdiagnosis. I even asked if it could be cancer at our first visit and he told me that was “not something he was worried about”. Thankfully I was able to get her into a competent vet who gave me the heart breaking news The new vet knew what the growth was just by looking at it. Then confirmed with a simple look of a slide under a microscope. To bad Alex Rahm could not do this simple measure to find out what the tumor was instead of being conserned about getting the infection all over. Even after I told him nothing drains for the tumor. Then Fillmore vet hosp has the gall to send me a notice that my dog needs shots. I would not be stupid enough to let them see my dog again. I will be filing a complaint with the state vet lucensing board. This is my fourth dog and I have lived in 4 states. Alex Rahm is by far the worst vet I have ever taken a dog to. The youngest one of my dogs has passed is 11 years old. I will be lucky if my girl lives to be 7

I just recently lost my 10 year old baby chihuahua/minpin Romeo to a vicious dog attack. Needless to say, I was quite distraught when I came in with him because I was sure he was gone, but needed verification. This office and their staff helped me through the most difficult time of my life! They were extremely caring, understanding, and let me say goodbye to my baby as long as I needed. We also take our new puppy there now because they are so great! The vets at this smaller clinic also seem to know both pets and owners on a more personal level than bigger chain vets, which allows them to care for your pet and notice changes that happen. Wouldn't take our pets anywhere else!

Unfortunately I can’t comment on the veterinary care because of the rude and apathetic receptionist. Her phone and in-person, customer service is below average at best. Poor service on my first customer contact is not a good sign therefore, I took my business elsewhere and found great customer/pet care service at another location. I would not recommend this office unless they train their receptionist/office assistant to be courteous and professional when interacting with customers.
