REVIEWS OF The Marine Mammal Center IN California

Jeff La Plante

They do good work saving marine wildlife, very educational. Great place for schools to check out in person or via virtual classrooms.

Julian Brandes

We'll worth a visit. They do amazing work and need support

Nate Chertack

This place is amazing. There's tons of info on all sorts of marine mammals and the staff are very knowledgable. The highlight is seeing all the seal pups barking, yowling, and flopping around in their temporary homes. It's both amazing and hilarious at the same time. Definitely stop by and visit!

T Wall

This place was amazing and a highlight of our trip. There is an observation deck to view all the babies they are helping rehabilitate. I wish we could get closer but a lady explained that they try to minimize human contact so they can go back into the wild without imprinting on humans. There are over 1500 volunteers that keep this place going. They take donations and this is worth a look!

dmitri Iourinski

Small but pleasant, interesting for Small kids

CMB Caspanello

First off any center that is open to the public for free to come and view what good work they're doing is fantastic. Please take this opportunity to make it down to the Marine Mammal Center in Sausalito. It is near Great Beach so you can make a day of it bring a picnic and drinks. Please support the center by buying something from their gift shop I even love their little wooden decals for water bottles. Currently they had elephant seals harbor seals and sea lions and one fur seal on rehabilitation.

Amy Meyer

The Marine Mammal Center is the largest marine mammal hospital in the world. Open to the public, you can check out the sea lions being cared for from the viewing deck. We were there around noon on a weekend and watched the sea lions being fed. This was a very educational experience for people of all ages.

Todd Billingsley

The people and the cause is great here. It's nice to see people do the right thing with wild life.

Mike Drew

le fab unacorn

The people here are so passionate. Didn't even sign up for a tour but the guy who works there answered all my questions and told me all about the work that's going on, and even the history. Reccomend it highly.

Colleen Coolish

Amazing work is being done here. Field trips are super fun! But you won't see a lot of animals

Kris

They do great work protecting animals in the area and the tour was very informative. It's in an area that's fun to look around and go to the beach, children may be underwhelmed with what they see here.

Tiffany Andre

Wonderful place to visit and learn about how they rehab marine mammals after they are injured or become ill. Plan on walking a bit, the main parking lot is down the steep hill. Also, plan on bringing your checkbook. The gift shop had so many cute niknaks and clothing items that it was hard to leave without spending a ton of money. The two separate viewing areas give visitors the opportunity to see up close, the marine mammal patients in their pens. Also, you can watch the staff prepare & feed the animals. The sounds of sea lions & seals are the dominant sounds you will hear the roar of the ocean. If you are so inclined, there are opportunities to adopt a seal, sea lion, sea otter, etc. The donation will go to help fund further care for sick or injured marine mammals. Great for field trips. Very educational.

Meghan

This is an amazing organization. The staff and volunteers we're helpful, engaging, and passionate. They're doing amazing work and the tour is well with the cost.

Derek Tucker

Nice beach-side location and very interesting story for adults and older kids, but not much to see. Not a zoo, which is great for animals but a little boring for tiny ones.

Jay Morr

Fun place. Cute Sea lion babies but you can't really get close. Not that you would want to. They're pretty vicious. Either way a great place to take the kids. And it's free!!

Jenn Kraschnewski

You can tour the faculty by yourself or pay a little for a guided tour. We did the tour, which was about an hour long. The tour discussed their mission of the center, how they rescue animals, treatments, and release. It was a worth while visit.

brandon louis

This was a great place to learn about the many different deals and what this center does. Learning about the different textures and what each seal's native geographic region is was great. The tour is $9 per person and I would skip it because you really don't get any extra behind the scenes viewings but you can pay and consider it a donation.

AJ Seliga

Fun for all ages. Great place to visit for out of towners, groups, and locals. The staff is well educated so you're sure to learn something on one of the tours or just by asking questions. The Center does incredible work for our oceans and animals. Highly recommend!

Celeste Libbin

Very informative tour and knowing all the money goes to help feed the animals is a plus. The staff and volunteers are great!

Joseph Payton

A great insight into local marine mammals and the amazing work the centre does to care for them. Staff were very helpful and enthusiastic - the centre is well set up for visitors with guided & audio tours, as well as being an active working hospital. Highly recommended.

Chris Mahlke

Very knowledgeable and friendly staff. This place is definitely worth visiting for both adults and children. It’s educational and inspiring. Had a great time!

Robert Hardy

Nice place to visit.

Michael N KATHLEEN Propst

Hidden gem. The take rescue seals and always need donations. Very beautiful

Kyle Potter

Amazing place that does great work. But you won't see much.

angela holdegraver

I volunteer here. It's a great place to work especially if marine science is your major.

Julie T

This place is amazing!!! Don't forget to visit the blue whale skeleton when you leave.

Miguel

Completely worth to pay a visit with your children. You can walk on your own, or join an guided tour where they tell you about the guests they have. They host wounded sea lions, elephants, otters, etc. and once they are recovered are set free on the sea.

Virginie Fite-Georgel

Camps for the children are wonderful and the drive there is so enjoyable to start your day!

John Madsen

We love this place. It is great to see the good work being done to heal the wounded seals and sea lions. The staff were friendly and were able to answer every questions the kids had about the sea lions and their habitat.

Jesse Tassey

Awesome but need to be more educational for kids and adults

Shey Currie

They are doing wonderful work, and will share their stories.

Myke Atwater

My sister volunteers there. We were staying at at Ft Barry Hostel and discovered them there. They do amazing work to save lives and return to wild. Support their work and adopt one of their patients!! Donate to their outstanding work!❤️❤️

Kathryn DeFay

We have been here multiple times over the years... There kids love it, and we love it! We will continue to visit whenever we are in the area.

Allen Bestmann

Very educational and friendly.

VlaD Dim

Interesting place! It will good for kids especially.

Nik Heath

Amazing work protecting these beautiful and necessary predators.

N E Davis

A not to miss in the Bay area. Very educational and beautiful views!

Matha Goram

First stumbled upon this place on our way to the beach nearly thirty years ago. What a transformation to the current state in the intervening years owing to key donors - thank you. Good for school students who wish to explore summer opportunities for eco-friendly best practices while caring for baby pinnipeds. The souvenir shop is a good place for a win-win event for casual visitors as well as the facility.

Cassandra Waring

They do amazing work here. So educational and worth the visit.

Lew

Definitely worth going to if you are visiting the Marin Headlands.

Tam G

I adore this place! TMMC is one of the largest marine mammal hospitals in the world. They do groundbreaking rescues, rehabilitation, research, and education about marine mammals and our oceans' health. I loved visiting so much, I became one of the over 1000 volunteers at the center. See Northern Elephant Seal pups in the spring, and summer is a great time to visit and see the California Sea Lion patients. Visit the website for patient updates, current research, and public educational program information too!

Bryan D

I always enjoy bringing out of town friends here. It is a great space, that has a little something for everyone. There is a beautiful view of the ocean to enjoy before you even go in. They have hosted tours or you can wander on your own. This is one of the largest veterinary hospitals in the world and they do very important work. They have a very nice gift shop with things in all price ranges. If you have a little time to spare, it's worth the side trip.

wandering athome

A medical center, not an amusement park. Tours and informational events are awesome. Just keep your voice down

Katlyn Pennington

Awesome little center to view marine animals and to learn about how to protect them!

Bala Prasad P

Good place for researchers who wants to know more about sea lions, seals and whales. Those who are studying about mammals and ocean technology should visit, for them this place has laboratory which provides good knowledge. This place is good to visit with beach near by.

Vahid Masrour

Great educational site to visit with the family and see some of the impacts that humans have on nature.

Brenda Mendoza Gutierrez

Great place. They take care for the animals. They help them live but some don’t survive. Please contact this place if you see a marine mammal and they will help it (stay as far enough so you don’t scare the animal)

Jessica Bettencourt

Great facility. Very clean neat and informative. Being a mom I will be slightly biased in my opinion. Dont take younger kids there as its not a zoo. Not a lot of animals there though that is a good thing since all are injured. Overall great facility and loved exploring a new place and learning more about what is done there. No cell phone reception there. (TMobile)So plan ahead.

Thas Am0r

We did the tour of the Marine Mammal Center. The workers seem like they care a lot about the animals. The tour itself is short and went through a lot of information quickly.

Freddie Coronado

Great place to go with the kids or adults (for about 45 min. to 1hr.). Not a whole lot of exhibits, but the seals and their keepers will keep you entertained. It has a nice gift shop + an open space for pictures and relaxing.

Robert Enslinger

They do amazing work and are 100% worth supporting

Live, Love & Laugh in SFO

Discovered this hidden gem in the Bay Area. Accolade to the volunteers who save and cure the sick and injured seals saved from the ocean. To make patients going back to the nature after they recover, staff do not pet and bond with the patients. Free entry and strongly suggest donations.

Brian Baumgardner

These guys are dedicated to the sea life around here. Great work guys!

Patricia Heckel

This place is interesting for adults and kids. The staff was very knowledgeable and friendly. It also has terrific views of the Pacific Ocean and coast. Easy parking and a picnic table with a view. And no admission fee.

Terek Kiles

I was so amazed when we discovered this place. Unfortunately there fire alarm went off right as we entered the building, But it was over within 20 minutes. Once we entered it was feeding time. That was by far the most engaging part of my visit. I was hoping to get a glimpse of some morgue action. Great time, great staff, very memorable.

Jackie Hettlinger

My granddaughter and I had a awesome experience! The animals were well taken care of, the staff was very nice and informative, and there was lots of things to see and learn about. The staff were loading 14 sea lions to go out to the Point Reyes ocean. It was very funny because the sea lions would try to jump over the cage. It was a very educational and fun place, especially for the kids. I would recommend trying it out!

Tyler

The things they do here are so great. The staff is very knowledgable, friendly, and helpful. Trish helped us and taught us so much in the hour we were there. Very educational and a fun time.

Cris Vulpe

This organization of great, caring professionals is doing amazing work helping the seals and other marine life survive the over aggressive human handling of the ocean. Visiting this facility is an eye opening experience about how, us humans, are damaging our bubble and how most of us do not understand what we are doing.

Juliana Novaes

Amazing facility! I love how thorough their efforts are so that the animals don’t grow used to and dependent on humans. The interns are very informative, I learned a lot on my hour long tour with Anna.

Dawn Pandora

I have always loved and supported these fine people in their endeavors to save wildlife

Oscar Lopez

Incredibly kind staff with incredible amounts of information.

Jeff Lakusta

The largest Marine mammal hospital in the world is just a few minutes outside of San Francisco. This is an incredible facility that's worth visiting to learn more about the famous Bay Area Sea Lions, but also Sea Otters, Elephants Seals, and more. Also an amazing place to volunteer. I work a Tuesday shift feeding the animals and it is an incredible chance to interact and really help these animals before they're released back into the wild. Thanks TMMC for the great work you do!

Ramakrishna Rao Apsingikar

It educational center with some coloring activities for kids.. was amazed to know there is place to treat these animals..

Mark Duvall

Beautiful location. Fascinating and educational exhibits. Friendly and informative staff. Great volunteer opportunities. Nice gift shop. Above all, see live Marine mammals that have been resuced and are being rehabilitated.

Lorna Macglashan

It's an awesome place you get up-close-and-personal to the animals donations are welcomed

Karen Fletcher

It was amazing to see the work they do to save these animals. And it's so cool to see all the sea lions and seals in the hospital area getting healthy.

Matthew Weld

The modest tour fees support their work. It's a working hospital, so you can see everything to a kid habituation to humans. The behind-the-scenes tour does take you beyond where the basic tour goes. The volunteers are very passionate about their work. Definitely an interesting visit.

lena B

Free to the public but they encourage donations. It's the largest seal rescue in the country and a neat place to visit if you love seals.

Michael Glass

This place is definitely off the beaten path but so much better than pier 39 if you're interested in the local wildlife and conservation.

Lili Ricciardi

Beautiful center for rescued marine mammals. We took the guided tour that explains the procedures for rescuing a seal, sea lions, elephant seal, otter, dolphins, whales etc. Very entertaining for kids and adults. Your contribution to the tour goes directly to the foundation. The really need the help to keep this running, fish and shelter are expensive to rehabilitate these animals. You can become a patron for as low as 5usd. You can also "adopt / sponsor" a rescued animal and get updates on it's health and release into the wild. You can do that going to the website, at the center or by phone. That can be a great present for anyone who loves animals. They go as low as $30us and as you add more money you get a stuffed animal to represent your adoption. If you wish you can volunteer for the center which is quite nice! They have training programs to start helping. The gift shop is lovely, they have sustainable items, books, and other things that were quite interesting. I highly recommend the visit. By the way, there was no cellphone reception for AT&T.

Monica Bannan

Great field trip for older kids. Understand what trash and toxins do to our oceans - view the patients of the center - usually sea lions and seals

Nu .

A really special place that I’d consider a must do in San Francisco, especially for animal lovers. The volunteers are super friendly and knowledgeable, I’d highly recommend paying the nominal fee for a tour. On both my visits I’ve seen a variety of different marine mammals at the hospital. The gift shop is great and stocks some unique environmentally friendly items.

Courtney Rothe

They are doing amazing work here! Love seeing all of the rehab animals and facilities that the Marine mammal center has available.

Patricia Batiste

Feild trip wit granddaughter very informative

Kavyashree Gangadhara

Very friendly staff. They clearly describe about what they do and they hand over a map to check the place. Its beautiful place and best place to know about seals. They have a small gift shop too. Very neatly maintained.

Ehud Zion Waldoks

A fun short visit. Great for little kids.

Jennipher Galvan-Speers

This place is a hidden gem. Take your kids and learn about local Marine life, and find out how amazing this organization is.

Hollister Redneck

I must admit this is by all my favorite stop evey month. I get to see all the animals from behind the scenes or the lines. To the Dr who wore the green sweats on 8/19/18 I believe on thursday, next time I roll through, can I get a tour of the place? After I get your name? Im the new guy (FNG) who brings your barrels....Not Ricky!

Gillian Vernon

The work that is done here by the staff is remarkable. Please donate!

Lauren Stedman

You get to see what work is done to protect the seas, sea lions and whales of the bay. You don't see the animals up close but from a platform; this is so the animals aren't stressed out by visitors. It is very well run. I'd definitely recommend the $10 tour as you get to hear a bit more about what goes on behind the scenes.

Eva FREEMAN

Camie Nicholson

Doing an awesome job.

C Freeman

Very informative and a learning experience!

Marine Mammal rescue, hospital, and rehabilitation. Sad that they don't stay open until 5 anymore, but a great experience for kids and adults and a pretty nice gift shop. Feeding time is 2pm

Erica King

Small but what a wonderful opportunity to see the care for ocean animals

Jade Carpenter

It's free, it helps rehabilitate ocean buddies, and it has lots of cool info about the ocean and science and the center itself. If you like the ocean, animals, or learning how stuff works, you should check it out.

Michele Schenck

Very informative and free place to take visitors.

Schuyler Olsson

They do great work and have a nice visitor experience

John Buzolich

Very nice facility. I wish we had gone for a visit years earlier. Definitely try to schedule your trip for one of the docent tour times. It's free entrance and free parking but the docent tour has a small charge. Please consider donating or at least make a purchase in the gift shop to support the organization. They also have a rescue hospital on the big island of Hawaii now to support the Hawaiian monk seal. We'll hopefully visit the Hawaii location this June.

jason wang

Amazing experience. Learned a ton about marine mammals and how life in the ocean affects global health. Got to see seals and sea lions recuperating at the facility, and the release of sea lions back to the wild!

Luke Shiras

They provide a great service to the community but they are rescue-focused and not visitor-focused. So while the tour is informative and interesting, it is not very long or full of interactive displays so you'll find yourself looking for more to do in the area.

Benjamin Salop

This place is an attractive and educational museum/hospital and they have a great mission. I love the kindness and hard work of the volunteers and staff

Lexi Sharp

Awesome place for the kids to visit

A great place to visit and learn about marine Mammals from the California coast. There's informational tours that educate the public on issues that effect the lives of these wonderful animals on a daily basis. The Marine mammal center also has rescue teams that go out all over the California coast rescuing sick and injured mammals. If you can find it in your heart donate a small amount,It goes a long way to helping these animals recover and get back into the wild.

Steve Flowers

Love this place! They're doing amazing work to help these animals get back to their homes. Take the guided tour and prepare to learn!

Mark Dombrofski

Doing amazing work to save God's creatures

Ruth Hanks

They do amazing work caring for wildlife. There is a self guided map, an audio tour, and groups can come. The only issue was that most of the parking is down a steep hill and it was difficult to push the stroller up it.

Leslie Steele

Rescues a sick sea lion

Great opportunity to learn about marine conservation and not as chaotic as the Monterey Bay Aquarium. Friendly tour guides. Hidden gem in the Marin Headlands.

Lisa Incatasciato

A great organization that takes in marine animals that need care and than releases them back into the wild. The facility is set up for the care of animals with some educational displays and labels. Don’t expect an Aquarium, but it is a great quick visit. It’s free to park and to enter.

MarinRetreat Vacation Home

The Marine Mammal Center makes me proud. Great place to educate yourself and friends on marine mammals. This place is a working facility that focuses on Marin Mammal care and releasing. This place supports marine mammals throughout California and beyond.

Brought nephews here decades ago as part of road trip from LA. It was pretty basic back then but the kids were fascinated by the experience. Later they had a blast storming Rodeo beach and it's hillsides.

Zachary Pavlov

What a wonderful job they're doing for the seals. Go give em money so they can do it better. -you can watch seals, they sound like velociraptors -fantastic classroom area with skeletons and videos. -giant elephant seal statue!

You can learn a lot about what the fantastic work they do and even see some of the animals they are rehabbing from the viewing area.

Danyang Li

My daughter loved this place. We spent Two hours over there. I Bought a t-shirt. Kind expesive but well design.

Caleb Caldwell

Pretty cool to see the animals that they're rehabilitating here. There's not a lot to see our tour, but the staff is very friendly and willing to talk all about what they do there. Not the best place for young kids because it's not very exciting and there's a lot more information than viewing of animals.
