This is the most attentive and welcoming Vet! I've had several wonderful experiences, mostly due to my adorable dog eating a sock or getting into trouble. Dr Anderson personally rushed out when she ate the sock to assess quickly. He explains procedures and reasoning, and I love that he tries to minimize cost. I've never had to wait more than 5 minutes before being brought in for an appointment and they have availability when I need them. I highly recommend!

We took our dog (Peanut) in for his annual physical and vaccinations which were due. The staff and everyone were wonderful. We were made to feel very welcome and they were very prepared for us and minimized our wait time. It makes me feel good as an owner that Peanut is in competent hands of people who care and know how to take care of him. They did a fantastic job and Peanut had a great visit. We also take Peanut there for all of his grooming appointments. Melissa is our groomer and she does great work. She always follows the direction we provide and Peanut comes back looking great! This is the place to go for pet care and veterinary services. We are very satisfied.

My little buddy, Joey, goes to Dr. York for his congestive heart failure. I cannot say enough good things about her expert, compassionate, and patient abilities as our pet's veterinarian. I lost my best big buddy, Slate, last year in September. It broke my heart and brings tears to my eyes even today. The following October, my best little buddy was diagnosed with congestive heart failure. I almost lost it right there where I stood. Dr York completely rose to the occasion and gave my little Joey hope for the future as well as bringing my grief to happiness. 13 months later and Joey's little heart is still going strong with the help of Dr. York and her awesome veterinary excellence. The staff is very nice, helpful and courteous. They all seem to love animals and even my little apprehensive buddy is comfortable with them (especially with Andrew). I have had animals all my life and have never been happier with a veterinary facility. 5 out of 5 stars!!

This office is more concerned about money and turning a profit then the health or happiness of your pet. Outrageous price gouging and unwilling to give advice for minor concerns without a hefty price tag. After paying the $100 bill for a visit to the office, they charged me nearly $20 for a cat hormone collar that can be bought in a box of 3 for $13 (which didn't work)... i mean, i understand inflated prices to generate revenue, but this place is ridiculous. So I call back for any other suggestions and A: I get attitude from the receptionist for requesting advice over the phone. B: I'm told the doctor will call when they have time (which I don't mind waiting) but instead get the same receptionist requiring an additional $100 trip to the office. Listen, I understand sometimes testing is required to get a clearer picture of an issue, but for a non emergency such as a male cat spraying in the house... i expect a few suggestions to try before being told I have to take an additional day off from work to talk about ways to alleviate displaced urine in my home. Oh, and by the way, I called my old vet in the state i moved here from and that's EXACTLY what happened. Try a hormone collar, try urine away spray, try a bigger litter box, try clumping litter, if all else fails... bring him in for further testing. Otay pet vet should use some of their exuberant profits to install a revolving door - because that's what they expect you to do. Conclusion: look elsewhere for veterinary care unless you have a flexible schedule, deep pockets, and don't mind being ripped off.

These guys are the best in town. We've come here for 3 dogs now and we plan to keep on coming. The ladies at the counter are so nice, not to mention the doctors and the pharmacist is especially sweet every time we see her. Nail trimming, flea meds, checkups. We do it all here at a reasonable price. Not the cheapest in town but you get what you pay for. We came here last year for an especially awful reason, to have our sweet doggy put down. He was old and he fought the good fight but it was time. I can't tell you how much these people made that experience as lovely as it could've been. They were so supportive, we even got a card in the mail a few days later from the vet. I really wish I could give this place an extra star.

Hopefully I will not experience what I have in the past with other vets in the south county such as high prices and up-selling services that are not necessary. So far I like this office and hopefully will not leave due to past practices I have experienced at other vets. I have been taking my dogs to Otay Pet Vets since they opened!!! Dr. Anderson and all of his staff are wonderful. Otay Pet Vets is family operated with Dr. Anderson, his wife, and Michael (their son) all working there. Our dogs are our "fur-children" and Otay Pet Vets treats you like part of the family. Lucy was my first big dog and she had the best care up until she passed away in 2013. It was so difficult to make that decision. Dr. Anderson helped with determining it was time for her to not suffer anymore and he was always a phone call away. They allowed me to stay in the room with Lucy for 3 hours after she had to be put to sleep. Currently with 4 little dogs it keeps us busy caring for them. With 4 senior dogs we have been to the vet numerous times over the years. These dogs are all rescues starting at age 4 & now one is 13 years old. Dr. Anderson is very friendly, down to earth, honest and patient. I love how Dr. Anderson likes to crack jokes. My dad started taking his pets to Otay Pet Vets after I told him about it. And, Dr. Anderson and him love to chit chat. I would not trust anybody with the care of my dogs unless it was Dr. Anderson. Also, Sherri and Alicia have been there through all the ups and downs with owning a dog. It is nice when you call and they know who you are. Also, all the vet techs are awesome. We love Joy and sometimes we get a glimpse of the infamous Jovito. I was so glad that one of the groomers makes doggie cakes. So for Lucy's last birthday she made an awesome cake and we celebrated in the doggie park next to the clinic. I know this was lengthy, but Otay Pet Vets is just awesome. They truly care about you and your pets.

I have been to Otay Pet Vets numerous times with my two Chihuahuas, Chiquita and The “Cisco” Kid. The team at Otay Pet Vets are great. All seem to genuinely care about your baby(yes). When Chiquita had her ultrasound done to see how many puppies she was carrying, Dr. Anderson made the comment that most Chihuahuas carried two to three pups. However, as he was scanning her there was a fourth, and guess what, a fifth. Boy was he and several of the staff surprised. I’m happy to say she gave birth to five healthy pups.

I love Dr.Anderson there is no other vet I trust when I had my last dog Duke he told me honestly what his diagnosis was and what were my options and didn't bs me. Like other vets who are like well like let's run all these tests and then we'll see what's wrong for more money but not Dr. A . Now with new puppy Dallas there was no question on who would be her vet they loved her right away as soon as they met here just like her brother Duke. We are super blessed to have this place so nearby. We have a rambunctious Jack Russell Terrier and have left him here to board several times. The always take good care of him and when we bring him home he is happy and healthy. He has made friends there with some of the staff and they know him by name and that makes me happy. As to the vet, we had one terrible scary day. In the midst of a move a few years back our dog knocked a can of paint on himself. I was in tears and panicking for his health and safety. I took him in and the vet, Dr. Anderson, and his staff very patiently washed all the paint off of my puppy and made sure he was okay from breathing fumes and sent him home to me healthy. I think they are amazing.

We have always had great service from Dr Anderson and all of the staff at Otay Pet Vet. Our dog had 4 puppies and we brought the mom in for an ultra sound to check to see that she did not have more to birth. The staff was wonderful and our babies all go to Otay Pet Vet for shots and checkups. Our older dog has had her teeth cleaned several times and I know she is in good hands.

The staff at Otay Pet Vets is truly amazing! My 3 year old pug had not been eating for a day and could not urine or make a bowel movement either. I was not sure what was wrong with him because it all came on so suddenly. I called Otay Pet Vets to try to get him in, but there were no openings. The first available appointment was for the next day in the afternoon. I was a little nervous about waiting that long because he looked really worried and could barely stand. His abdomen became enlarged and he cried from time to time. I am a law student trying to make ends meet and did not have the extra funds to take him to the Pet ER. The next morning I took my Pug in to Banfield as a walk in and the Vet charged $50 and wanted to run more test to figure out what was going on with my pug. (Total of $524) I told them that I did not have that kind of money and that he has another appointment later that day at Otay Pet Vets, and their prices are much less. When we arrived at Otay Pet Vets, the staff were welcoming and the Vet immediately knew (just by looking at my pug) that my pug was suffering from a severe bladder blockage. The Vet informed my daughter and I that if he did not have immediate relief from the blockage, he would die. Tears began streaming down our face because we were devastated at the sight of potentially losing our pug. The Vet informed us that they would do everything that they could in order to help him feel more comfortable, however I needed to sign a euthanization waiver in the event that our pug would suffer too much pain. My daughter and I asked for a few minutes with our pug, (who was laying there practically lifeless) and we prayed for him. The Vet informed me of the procedures that needed to take place and the challenges that came along with every procedure. We were told that it would be a miracle if our pug made it through the night. The next day, the Vet informed us that our pug was responding well and would soon be strong enough to have surgery. The owner Dr. Anderson called the following day, to explain the surgery that he would perform. Dr. Anderson successfully performed surgery on our pug and removed several bladder stones to clear up any further blockage. Our pug is now thriving and fully recovered. Though he is now on a strict special diet, he is healthy and still with us. Through this entire ordeal, there was never a point where the Dr. asked for any type of payment from me, he was more concerned about helping my pug and less about his pockets. To me, that speaks volumes about the Dr. and his practice. I am grateful to know that I have a Vet that is just as concerned about my pet's health as I am, and I will be forever grateful for Dr. Anderson and his entire staff at Otay Pet Vets for taking such great care of our pug. Know that your precious friend is in good hands!!

It is a really lovely place and lovely people but it has HORRIBLE customer service when I comes to the phone. I’ve twice been on hold for 15 minutes or more to just simply ask for vet records that I hadn’t received the first time I asked. My mother also has the same problem with being put on hold and not receiving the thing we need. She had to ask for vet records 4 times before she actually received them and it was the right email address as well. I love these guys because they are always so nice but they just really need to improve on their customer service.

We have been bringing our dogs here since 2012 and always have had great service but have noticed a revolving door of employees and a steady decline in customer service lately. The most recent incident of several was an appointment we had to have a teeth cleaning for our dog. We had preop blood work about a week before the procedure and they set her up for 7:00am the next week. They even sent a text to remind us. They verbally told my husband to bring her at 6:45 and that she was the first appointment. He arrived at 6:45 and the office was closed. Brenda arrived at 7:00 and proceeded to ask my husband what he was doing there. Not “how can I help you” or “we’ll be right with you”. They took my dog and said it would be a couple of hours and would be ready for pickup by 1:00 or 1:30. He arrives at that time and my dog has still not been seen and has been sitting in a crate since 7:00am! No call about an emergency or delays, nothing ! She didn’t get out till 4:30. They then proceeded to tell my husband he was disturbing the staff when he wanted to know why they couldn’t call and let him know. When he went back the next week to speak with the vet, Brenda essentially blocked him. The staff is running that office into the ground. No accountability. Probably keeping complaints from reaching Dr. Anderson to keep their jobs. Now last week when we went to refill her heart worm meds, they wanted us to pay for bloodwork again! Wouldn’t budge even tho we had just had bloodwork done less than a month before and even though it is meds she has been taking for 7 years! When we complained they told us essentially to leave and that our business was not important. We will most definitely be looking for a new vet.

We lost our little Mittsy almost a month ago. Mittsy was a calico polydactyl who was in my life for 20 years and her passing was the hardest thing we've ever had to endure and still continue to struggle with. At the time we were fairly new to the Otay area and needed a veterinarian who would take exceptional care of our 18 year old cat. Words cannot express how blown away we were when we began taking Mittsy to Otay Pet Vets. And although Dr. Kinabe did everything in her power to keep Mittsy alive and well for the last 2 years of her life, the time came where she had to be put down. Our gratitude and heartfelt thanks goes out to all of you in being so thoughtful, loving and caring. A special thank you to Dr. Urbina, who had such sincerity in being so patient and thorough in explaining everything before we decided to put Mittsy down. And Dr. Knabe, we are at a loss for words........you are such an amazing doctor and there are not words to describe how truly sincere and loving you are; toward not only your animals, but the family members as well. We will forever be grateful for your talent and passion in veterinary medicine and your warm heart. Thank you for your loyalty in keeping our little girl in our lives as long as you could. Last, but definitely not least, is our heartfelt thanks to Sheri, Ashley, and Scarlete. You girls have such huge caring hearts and I will never forget how loving and sincere you all were in our time of sorrow in putting her down and when I came back for her ashes. This dog park is nice... BUT it’s always randomly closed and when I called to ask why it’s closed at 9:45am the lady said we close when it rains or when it rained the day before... so yesterday it sprinkled and today it is completely sunny and hot!!!! We met Dr. Anderson back in 2008 when he first opened up in Otay Ranch. We had 2 dogs at the time and Otay Pet Vets was wonderful. We had a pitbull that developed mange and Dr. Anderson helped us treat it in a quick and very cost effective manner. Many years later, we don't have our original 2 puppies but now have a new pitbull puppy. We discovered a growth on his front leg and were very concerned that it was cancerous. We took him to Dr. Anderson and they checked him out, gave us advice on what to do and look for and eased all of our worries. This was our puppies first time at the vet and they made him feel very comfortable. The visit was again cost effective. The staff was friendly and helpful and facility is very clean. Don't let the small space fool you -- there's a great selection of pet products at competitive prices without the annoying fake conversation you get at PetSmart, PetCo, etc. I went in for the most expensive dog food, and was actually talked into something cheaper! Yup! No upsell here -- just knowledgeable staff who love animals. And even better, after small talk, the owner remembered meeting my dog once 5 years ago and even remembered my name.

Worst experience I've ever had. I had my dog spayed beginning of July and boarded yesterday...but yet I come to grooming today and they try to tell me my dog is not up to date on her vaccinations and it's passed due. What's funny is I couldn't have gotten my dog spayed OR boarded yesterday if she was not up to day. The receptionist didn't even know how to do her job and had terrible customer service and then the manager comes out trying to play the nice card and sit me outside to explain a piece of paper to me that I have been handed to by my vet stating her vaccinations are up to date. Absolutely ridiculous.

I have been going to Otay Pet Vets for a while and unfortunately it started off great and now has greatly declined. I was say the front desk staff and techs are awesome and they are able to get you an appointment quickly, but the bad far outweighs the good. I made an appointment for my dog for her annual check up and to obtain a Rx for my dogs flea medication. We were promptly placed in a room at our appointment time, but spent a great deal in the room alone without any assistance for at least 45 minutes. After having my dog examined and receiving my Rx I asked if they could fax it to 1800PetMeds I was told that I would have to mail it in that they don't fax to that company. Ok whatever I will mail out the Rx. The next day I received a call from a vet tech who informed me that my dog has hypothyroidism and needed to be placed on medication. When I asked further questions, the tech was unable to answer my questions. When examined on the 12th July a nodule was noted on my dogs neck I asked the tech Angelica to check with the physician if this was consistent with a tumor and if I could have a call back. She stated she would speak with the physician and I would receive a call back, which never occurred. Once I picked up the medication from the vet I asked for a copy of my dog's lab results, they were unable to provide them to me, but I was told I would receive them via email, which I never received. After starting my dog on the medication for a few days, I noticed concerning signs and symptoms and contacted the clinic for further advice. I was informed by the front desk person that the signs and symptoms that I described weren't concerning. (With the medication she's on the s/sx were definitely concerning! If you have medical experience) I was informed that I would receive a call back by the vet, so I waited. At 650pm prior to the office closing at 7pm I contacted the clinic because I had not received a call. In speaking with the front desk person she spoke with the physician on staff for the day Ms. Knabe, who I was told was reviewing my dogs record. I waited on hold only to speak with the front desk person again who was told to tell me by the physician that my dog probably had a chronic condition/issue with the medicine and I said that's not possible she just started the medication. The front desk person said well never mind that, the vet also said you should bring your dog in tomorrow. I asked if I could speak with the vet I was brushed off. I thanked the front desk person and explained that I thought it was highly inappropriate that when a customer had questions about their pet, that the vet should answer them. I'm very disappointed in their service and plan on filing several complaints.

Otay Pet Vets is a very caring veterinarian. I have dealt with many of the doctors here and every one of them is special and treat me and my dogs with love. One of my dogs had to be euthanised and they cared as much about me as they did in humanly euthanising my 11+ year old Golden. Another time I had an emergency when one of my dogs got bitten at the dog park. They took her immediately and had to stitch her foot. There charges are really fair for their services. Had i done this review 4 years ago it would have been 5 stars. But recently the service has gone way down. The staff is nothing but rude and make you feel like you are inconveniencing them for scheduling appointments or calling about your pet. My dog had a procedure done a few months ago and i had to call them for updates on her progress instead of the other way around. And i called the other day to try and schedule an appointment and even before i could finish my sentence the rep cut me off with a very curt “no” with no explanation or anything. I have since taken my dog elsewhere and i forgot what it was like like to actually be helped by people who wanted to help you since i was conditioned for being treated a different way.

We brought our six year old rescue yellow labrador to Dr Anderson for the first time three years ago and have been happy with him and his staff (as well as other vets at this location) ever since. The office staff are so friendly and helpful, the technicians are great with our dog, and the vets always take their time to listen and answer questions. I've gone to other vets in the past for other pets, but I really enjoy Otay Pet Vets. They're even flexible as just a few weeks ago I simply stopped by because I happened to have the dog with me and he needed a vaccination. They took him in within a few minutes without an appointment and gave him his vaccination. Great people to work with and I would highly recommend.

The best vet anywhere. The owner truly cares and has come in multiple times on his day off to go above and beyond to provide care for my dog who was in pain. They have an amazing staff of vets. My dog had a rash we could not figure out and I was just throwing money at the problem. They also have a very good leadership team who understand and provide great customer service. They also have the best groomery in San Diego. Wish I could rate this company a NEGATIVE star review. BEWARE, the customer service that is provided by their manager is HORRIFIC! The manager makes excuse after excuse, refuses to listen and can't stop talking over a customer trying to express their concerns/frustrations. BooBoo Bear has been going to Otay Pet Vets for several years now and loves it there. Dr Anderson is excellent and Melissa is wonderful at grooming.
