The staff is polite and the hospital is nice. They made an effort to fit our pet into their schedule which we really appreciated. However, their diagnosis was a miss. This is our experience: Our pet had facial inflammation. His mood was the same but he was not eating as much. They took a facial-cranial x-ray and did diagnostic tests on the eye which were inconclusive. The source of the problem could not be determined. The cost of these test was $470. At the end of the appointment we got antibiotics, ibuprofen -like medication, eye drops and an appointment to return for general anesthesia and tooth inspection, with possibility of tooth extraction. The ibuprofen and antibiotics, even taken with food, were causing gastric problems and his mood became increasingly depressed. His worsening mood prompt us to start researching the web for causes of pet's facial swelling. We found photos of pets that were identical to our pet's condition. These photos were showing pets stung by bees. The simplest of causes was overlooked by this veterinarian office. All they needed to do is prescribe an antihistamine and swipe a card over small bump on his lower eyelid to remove the stinger, which we gently did and got a 1mm stinger with a small base to it that stuck to the card. We had to swipe the card several times and used a magnifying glass.
I don't care about the money spent, I care more that my pet, who I make enormous effort to keep healthy, got unnecessary antibiotics in his system, probably his normal gastric flora (healthy -normal microorganisms) has been disturbed. Money can always be recovered, but our pets organisms suffer the consequences of unnecessary medications.
