It is an emotional roller coaster when a beloved pet is ill. Dr. Kanfer and the staff care. Every step in the in our bunnies treatment was explained so we were able to make educated decisions. Dr. Kanfer took our bunny home after surgery and texted us three through the night with updates. There is no other veterinarian I trust with our bunnies.

Clean facility and nice staff. It is a little pricey but I couldn’t find another place in the area that sees chickens so it is what it is. Can’t risk my entire flock. Mama will be getting tube feeding, vitamin injections, medications, and a checkup for about $350. Luckily because I classify my chickens as a business, I can write off the expense or else I would pretty bummed about coughing up that kind of $$. The staff gave me a ton of helpful info about caring for and handling my babies which was awesome

If I could give zero I would. My best friends pet hamster’s foot is falling off and they said they couldn’t take her because they’re booked all day. ARE YOU KIDDING ME. I would not recommend going here if your animal has an actual emergency because they’ll just brush you off. UNBELIEVABLE.

I try not to complain about many things, but I had a somewhat unhappy experience at this vets office. The girls at the front desk were amazing and the technicians seemed to be very kind, but my problem is with the veterinarian. I brought in my guinea pig extremely distraught because I thought that my only option was to put her down considering I was told by another veterinarian how much it would cost to help her. The veterinarian came into my room and explained to me that ovarian cyst‘s could be treated With injections that are low-cost and show results almost 100% of the time so putting her to sleep didn't need to be the only way out. Being a pet owner that has seen plenty of veterinarians who are only out for the money, and on top of that being extremely emotional and distraught all I heard was “we want your money.” So I had a hard time listening to her because I thought they were just out for my wallet, so I asked to speak to The office manager, whom was very nice and explained to me that they don’t want to do euthanasia because she's healthy and just in pain from the cysts. I just really don’t like the way the veterinarian handled the situation, she seemed very rude and snobby... I did not treat the situation very delicately at all. Honestly that’s my only complaint about this veterinary office.

They take great care with pets other than dogs and cats, such as birds, herps, and rodents, which require specialized knowledge. They have helped me with my birds and tortoises, one of which has a serious illness at the moment. They also specialize in rabbits and periodically have events to help educate and care for rabbit owners.

We took our bearded dragon to get her annual checkup, and were so impressed with the level of knowledge the entire staff had. We were taken care of so quickly, and they made sure we saw estimates before we chose our treatment plan. We will absolutely be returning for future care.

The service has greatly improved with the new, bigger clinic. The staff is efficient and FRIENDLY now too. Appointment scheduling is faster and better. Love the doctors. Most knowledgeable exotic vets around. Thank you for helping my babies with life improvements and life endings. Highly recommend

Dr. Kanfer and her staff KNOW what they are doing. They are real experts in taking care of your rabbit and they will take care of your rabbit and pet... but you need to have the money for this place. I have sent my bunnies here for emergencies and regular check ups. My rabbit gets a lioncut here once in awhile. They are the only place nearby that do lioncuts and they do a good job. I have both a fuzzy lop and a holland lop. My boy has a lot of digestive problems. He's been to the ER many times here and at VCA Arden. He's also a senior bunny. My girl is currently in the ER right now for a stomach problem and needs a haircut badly because of matting. They are both my life and I can afford to take care of them. Dr. K and her staff are super knowledgeable and care about their pets. Dr. K owns rabbits herself. Dr. M knows about rabbits too. She was helpful with my baby boy. She's more of a bird specialist tho, but she knows a lot about rabbits. The hostess and the nursing staff are also caring and really nice. Kim is amazing. I love her. She cares so much about the pets. Honestly, this place is great. You can call and get updates from them when you call. They are also EXCELLENT with emergencies. I called once at 4am and they called me back. I am grateful for this place. *** But NOTE for others: I don't recommend this place to people who are struggling financially. This place is expensive because they are specialists. They know what they are doing and can hike up the prices. But, yes, it comes at a cost. There are other vets that do specialize in rabbits and are cheaper, but they are farther than Pasadena area. They will charge you for every little thing and the cost is higher than standard pets, but rabbits and birds are exotic animals and they come at a cost.

I took my baby T Rex (chinchilla) here. She was so sick and out of it that I really didn't think she was going to make it. Luckily they have a team of excellent doctors and nurses who loved and cared for my baby.

great place! went in for my iguana her cheek was swollen. kinda pricey but only exotic vet in my area. overall satisfied!!! I learned that my iguana is a girl! which is great! so physical exam was 99$ or so. they send me with antibiotics took out a ball of puss from my iguana 's mouth. cleaned it up . Total price was $152. Really cool people will be back for all my reptiles

Horrible place, DONT BOTHER BRINGING YOUR PET HERE. These ***holes are only after YOUR MONEY. I brought my sun conure here knowing she's got a respiratory infection, the doctor examed her and says shes got something in her lung but shes fine. If you see anything weird come back. Easy $75, while they keep offering me other pricy unnecessary services. . 2 weeks later my bird is on the floor, gasping for air. I call this place once again and say they want ANOTHER exam, but this time $102. I told them "i brought her for the same reason already, why am i paying again?" And they hung up. Horrible service. Dont say i didnt warn you.

After reading these reviews I'm a little worried about them gauging us for unnecessary tests etc. :( I've been seeing a vet already & she referred me here because they apparently know ferrets well. I didn't see any reviews about ferrets at all. I can't give a rating yet (but have to so I'll put it in the middle) since I don't go until Monday. Anyone out there who has taken their ferrets? I'll write a review of experience there soon. thanks

I’ve brought my rabbit here several times, and each time I am very impressed with the level of knowledge the staff has about rabbits and their health. From monitoring my rabbit’s irregular teeth to helping her recover from a tummy bloated with gas, I can’t state how thankful I am to have a vet clinic like this nearby. I would definitely recommend this place to any small animal owner.

PLEASE READ:If you have a guinea pig,DO NOT GO. They are super great,respectful and helpful when your pet is healthy. However I went when my baby was sick and they very subtly accused me of neglect and suggested I killed my other guinea pig by questioning about her passing. I understand that I look very young but I felt very insulted and as if I was treated like an abusive idiot. Also within hours of going there,my guinea pig passed away from what seems like misdiagnoses. I don't know if perhaps they are better with birds or rabbits but it seems they do not know how to handle guinea pigs AT ALL.

I visited here for my pet whites tree frog. All the staffs were extremely nice and Dr. Labrecque was very knowledgeable and experienced. The visit experience was more than pleasing for me and my frog is almost fully recovered. If you truly seek for a place for your "exotic pet", this is the place to go.

I have read all previous reviews and I can relate, but I must warn all to this fact. BEWARE, this veterinary office is overly/extremely EXPENSIVE period! There goal is not customer retention but predatory business practices. This office will gouge pet owners with over the top cost on all medical procedures, exams, meds, x-rays, etc..I have unfortunately experienced all. BEWARE! God bless your pets (kiddos)......God Bless your Hearts to search for care. I have no further recommeds but only tears to share my experiences.

I went here with my 2 guinea pigs for a regular check up. A rude Gothic girl who is supposed to be a vet tech. (I like that style too) comes out looking like she is dead, pale as a ghost, grabs my guinea pig wrong when picking it up. She held it like a cat, pulling the skin to carry it to the table. I immediately told her to get her grubby hands off my animal and took it from her. This place is very inexperienced with exotic animals. I am very educated with guinea pigs which is why mine are 10 years old, this place will kill yours. Believe that. Please go elsewhere, my piggy is scared to death still.

I was disappointed after taking my gunea pig there for emergency, that no one called to check on him the next day. Even if they believed, which I do believe , they thought he more than likely he would not survive, a simple call would be customer service and thoughtful at best, given there are 2 people at the front desk and 4 veternarian interns the day we were there and of course the veternarian, would be a great teaching tool, to assign patients to interns to call get an update to report to the doctor to teach the next generation of interns customer service and quality services.

I have no doubt that the staff at Exotic Animal Vet mean well and care about the animals they see daily, but I was very disappointed with my experience here to say the least. I brought my chinchilla in, who had an issue with her eye. I was convinced a large array of expensive tests needed to be ran to centralize the issue (which all came back negative) and was sent home with another array of expensive medicine In which I followed procedure and fed to her every day for two weeks. $400 and two weeks later the issue is not resolved but is worse than before. I would spend any amount of money to keep my animal comfortable. The insurance payed for it anyway, but the time wasted and the fact that she is still in pain is the crime here. I highly recommend that one should go to a more experienced vet with a more experienced staff who knows how to solve common problems with every species and not throw darts at an issue and hope something works.

The hospital is very clean, upscaled. The reciptions and assistants are very nice, the equipments are up-to-date, Dr. Kanfer is very knowledgeable and professional. The only thing is the price that is not easy for me to pay for. Other than that it is a great place to have pets in good hands of them.

I must say that the doctor was very informed about my cocatiel Mr. P and thank God nothing was wrong. I was very satisfied with how the doctor answer all my question. However, I think the doctor could use some pointers in polite bed side manners. Example: During my appointment, she left Mr. P in a container with a lid while she left our exam and attended another patient for about 15 min. Secondly she placed this huge 5 inch needle down Mr. Pls nose without informing me down Mr. P;s nose that made me gasp more than he did! Yes, I agree trhat her fees were a pricey. Mr. P's Was $200 for exam, blood work and antibiotics. In addition, they wanted me to purchaser the food for my cocatiel, but that was all the money I had. .

Great veterinary staff. They have taken care of the my nieces cockatiel for over 5 years now. He had two unfortunate accidents early on. One requiring surgery on his food and the other involving a cat attacking him. Each time he has been taken care of by an amazing and compassionate staff. Despite the risks that he faced they took the best possible care and he is in great health.

Hey everyone. I'm reading these reviews, and it is so sad when you hear about our companions passing, however it is part of the landscape of Exotic Pets. I have 3 rabbits, and I will take them no where else but here. Dr. Kanter is the premier authority in the region for exotic care, and travels all over the country giving lectures on the intricacies of our beloved rabbits/birds etc. Make NO mistake, there is no way a dog or cat vet can care for your adorable rabbit... you have lucked out and have one of the formost authorities on exotics! Look no further... your forever vet is just a phone call away!

We just took our parrot there and had the worst experience. He was having trouble breathing so we took him to see Dr. Tiffany Margolin We had tests done from previous vet but they where not good enough for her and billed us for 1000. 00 dollars. I got up to leave and she said you can't leave until you pay the 74 dollars. She didn't even look at him and wanted a physical exam fee. And they love trying to sell you Harrisons bird food. Even though i told them that he mainly eats fruits, grains, and veggies. They will still add it to their estimate. They are only after your money, physical exam or not.

NEVER TAKE YOUR PET HERE!! I Took my beloved elderly guinea pig here in July 2015 to have his teeth trimmed down because he was having problems eating. They did not explain the dangers of the operation to me at all. There were complications during the procedure and he almost died then. They informed me and I rushed to the clinic to see him, which was the last time I ever saw him. They told me he would have to be medicated and watched overnight, so one of the doctors would take him home and oversee his care. I was so distraught I agreed.. the phone rang at 6am and it was the doctor informing me that he had passed away during the night. She said he was gone when she woke up, which means she did not watch over him through the night like I was told he would be. I hate this place for killing my Peanut. All they care about is money, I paid over $700 and got nothing in return, least of all any compassion from the staff. NEVER TAKE YOUR PET HERE!!

I love this place so much because of them my bird didn’t pass away. My bird came in super sick and he would not have made it more than a week. I called them and they did have an avian doctor so I immediately took my bird. They checked him throughly and gave him meds. It’s been 5 years since that and my bird is still with me as happy as can be. I do remember the personnel being very nice and helpful. They know what they are doing. Absolutely recommend this place.

This practice is fabulous. The entire staff is helpful. We truly appreciate their knowledge, patience and caring attitudes. They have helped us on numerous occasions with our precious guinea pig girls. We ask a lot of questions and they respond. Dr. Kanfer, and Kim (vet tech), have gone out of their way on several occasions. It’s a little expensive for us but worth it. This staff is still the best of the best! Dr. Labracque & Wills, the vet techs, etc. have gone above and beyond for us. They did their best to help us with our 2 eldest guinea pigs. Loosing them has been horrible. However, they had good lives and were very loved. The cards, caring attitudes and patience from the staff have been comforting. I’m sure they will do their best for the 2 fluffy butts we still have with us. (Idk how to add a 2nd post so I hope this works. Lol.)

If you have a rabbit, there is no one better than Dr. Kanfer. She has been able to help my bun through a few "hairy" times, with GI stasis, as well as with general care. She truly cares for these guys, and she's just so knowledgeable and helpful. Big thanks also to Kim, the tech here. She has now twice walked me through critical care for my bun, taking the time and care to help me make videos demo'ing how to administer meds and inject fluids myself at home, and doing all the explaining and demo with patience, understanding, and some much appreciated humor. I never would have thought I could do all this home care myself, but with her help and advice, I did it all! They have after-hours care and phone support, great referrals for bunny sitters for when I leave town, and I could not appreciate a group of people more.

Minnie, Brownie and Marshmallow had a check up. Minnie is mother to Brownie and Marshmallow. we had a concern that one of the babies barely four weeks old and one might be a boy. Minnie was chirping one night and a concern grow from that. They are all girls, no health issues. The Doctors and staff are all ready to help with your exotic pets need. Than you.

I would highly recommend this hospital to anyone who owns an exotic pet. Dr. Richards is so friendly and compassionate with my rats and she provides excellent care. I am very cautious with who I trust to neuter and anesthetize my rats and I completely trust Dr. Richards and the rest of the wonderful staff. The prices may be slightly higher than a general practitioner but it is completely worth it- they are specialized for exotic care. I have never had any medications or diagnostics suggested that weren’t completely reasonable to treat my pet. Everyone is very friendly and informative when presenting the estimates to make sure I know exactly what I’m approving; they have always been happy to discuss what is most recommended for my pet if I can’t afford everything on the estimate. They are providing high quality veterinary medicine and I will happily continue to take my rats to them!

I take my rabbits to see Dr. Kanfer when my local exotic vet can't figure out what is wrong. I drive here from South Orange County, it's about 1hr 30 min drive for me, which is why I don't take them to see her for all their checkups. The drive is both hard on me and them. Dr. Kanfer is very knowledgeable and takes good care of our rabbits. We rescued a rabbit who stopped eating and almost died, Dr. Kanfer knew right away what was wrong with the same information and x-rays that our local vet had. She saw the abscess immediately, we scheduled the surgery, surgery was successful, and according to my friend that is a doctor, she went above and beyond in the tactics that she used. Dr. Kanfer gave us her personal number to call her at any time during the recovery period if we had any problems. She followed up with us, and our rabbit fully recovered wonderfully and better than we had ever seen her! As soon as she started feeling better she was binkying all over the house. We are so thankful for the care we received!
