We came here in an emergency situation. The atmosphere feels very much like a Kaiser and less like a hospital... which is nice. Maybe it was my emotions or a misunderstanding, but the male vet was very cocky at first (Making it known that HE is the vet and his advice should be followed when I was explaining what someone else at his facility had said. If what they told me was incorrect, then he should address them and not take it out on me). However, he did seem to tone down the attitude by the end of the night. Everyone else was beyond friendly and helpful. Check in was fast as well. It was the first time I had left my dog anywhere over night, and I felt very safe leaving her there.

They were very understanding when I lost my Xiah. I had never lost a dog before and they were sensitive to it. The next day I go back in and they tell me my dog has parvo and begin treatment right away. Well my dog gets worse and they did everything in their power to save him. With all their love and affection towards my Milo he survived the parvo. I will forever be grateful for the Vetenarians and the staff. Highly recommend this hospital.

I brought my cat in very late at night under emergency circumstances. Everyone working there was very calm and patient even though I was an emotional disaster. The doctor explained all the options thoroughly and was very patient and hospitable during the euthanization of my elderly cat. I felt that he was honestly and upfront about prices and treatment options. It was one of the most upsetting moments of my life, but I appreciated the kind and caring attitudes toward my pet and myself while I was there.

He's still hanging in, eating & all, and sends his 'thanks' too for not billing him for this during his final 'days'. I've used BVH twice. Each time after hours. The night my husband and I got married, about 10 pm we noticed Meeka, my 85# (lap dog) Husky was not acting right. We called and they told us to bring her right over. She was unable to walk and the staff came and got her took her straight to the back. The Dr. did an ultrasound placed an IV, he came out and got us and told us she had a tumor in the sac around her heart that ruptured. She was bleeding to death slowly. She had cancer. He gave us the option of trying to get her to Ventura where if she lived through the trip they could do surgery but we would be looking at $10,000+. I wasn't putting her through that nor was it a financial option. We had our other dog a Husky also, with us and we all got on the floor, Dr. and his nurse too, and we had her put to sleep. They offered us cremation services a plaster footprint impression. We did both and they gave us a paw print in ink on a piece of paper. They also mailed us 2 cards with several ink paw prints. We now use BVH as our primary veterinarian. I have nothing negative, only POSITIVE to say about BVH Veterinarians and the staff. They also offer the care credit for expensive visits. Love love love them.

I love this place because it's open 24/7 that's what attracted me in the first place but the best is the groomers this is the best place to take your dog if it gets nervous around people or just dosen't like being groomed. Sarah is the best I call her the dog whisperer she is great with dogs very patient with them always takes her time to get to know your dog. She takes care of Love Love very well and does an excellent job with her. Went to several other groomers before Sarah and always had a problem here I have never had any problems. I recommend this place 100%

Good vets, open 24/7. Be prepared to pay about triple for the office visit outside of business hours. That includes if you're a walk-in and they don't get to you by the cut off time (5:00 pm I think).

I recently had to have two of my pets put down and they were so kind and compassionate. You can tell they truly enjoy their jobs and will give your pet the best care possible.

My sweet baby broke her leg. I took her here and they were so good to her. We had a small wait but I didn't mind because there was a dog that came in at the same time that was so much worse. They would come in and see how we were doing and let us know what's going on. It was very clean and organized. They have grooming and boarding, which I will also be using now. My dog is still a puppy and she is tiny so they were all loving her and cuddling with her while she was being treated. Very friendly well trained staff. I can't thank them enough for treating my puppy so well and being so kind. I wish I could give more than five stars. I will be recommending this place to all my friends and family. I can't say enough good things about the staff.

Unfortunately our beloved German Shepherd had to be put down. She had a very good and comfortable life with us for the last 11 years. The doctor's and staff are loving and kind. Everyone there give us support and whatever amount of time we needed for the family to gather and say goodbye. She unable to stand but the staff made it easy to move her from the car and into the office. There other Veterinarian office closer to home and we have tried them with other pets. But, Bakersfield Veterinary Hospital is a five star facility and available 24 hours a day by phone in case of an emergency. Our pets are part of our family and deserve the best care possible.

Add the beginning of a road trip from northern California driving to Georgia our English bulldog had a little anxiety which triggered his breathing issues. Bakersfield Vetinairy hospital was fantastic they treated are baby boy with such care!❤ They knew what to do how to handle the special needs of English bulldog's and 4 hours later we were on the road with a very happy dog & human!! the rest of the trip went very smooth. The ladies/nurses at the front counter are very nice, and didn't seem to have a problem answering any and all my questions, and the office/lobby is nice and clean. Dr. PauIson seems nice. I only gave 4 stars because this was my 1st visit. I will change it to 5 stars when I visit again depending on how that visit goes. I think I made a good choice choosing this place to care for my puppy when needed.

If I could give less than one star I would. My issue is not with the front staff or facility but the fact that all this vet hospital cares about is money. I have taken all my dogs here for the last two years and I had a couple rough experiences so I decided to try another vet and I didn’t know or realize how much they took advantage of me or how their priority is only the money untill I went to a different vet and I seen the difference. This place does not care about the animals at all their only priority is running as many tests as possible so they can rack up the bill and if you question the test or how much it costs they act like you are a bad dog owner. I have no problem paying for tests or medicine my dog needs but they are only doing it to rack up the bill and I was clueless untill I went to a better vet and saw the difference. If you want a place that cares about the animals and not their bottom line DO NOT GO HERE. I really believe if my dog was in a life or death situation they would make sure to secure payment before helping them and that in my opinion is not how a vet should be.

They are so kind and most of my experiences here have been good. I always have to wait 3-4 hours, but it's because it's always an emergency and not a scheduled appointment. One thing that upset me last time was this: we had an elderly dog dying.we had taken her in and they couldn't find anything with the blood work, x-rays and have her fluids. We brought her home and she continued to not eat for three days. Her body was shutting down so we held her and said our goodbyes. After waiting four or so hours to have her put to sleep, the vet say us and said they'd keep her overnight and give fluids again to see if she would get better, even after we told her we wanted her put to sleep. She was in so much pain, suffering and dying. The vet didn't listen to us and I feel like she wanted to charge us for another night there when it was plainly obvious that our dog was dying and would not make it. On top of that, her solution was to just give her more fluids, she had no explanation of what they would try to find out if anything was wrong. I feel like this was going to drag on her suffering. It's very frustrating when she clearly didn't listen to us and tried to bully us into what she wanted. It was no discussion she just said "this is what's going to happen" even after we told her our mind was made up. our dog would not have lasted about five hours. So, the vet hospital is good but it really depends on what doctor you get and if you have an appointment or if it's an emergency.

The very best place to take your pet. The staff refers to your pets as "your baby" they get it. Everyone is very nice, and it's perfect for emergencies, or regular checkups. I have Pitt bulls and they do not discriminate or treat my babies any differently. They are amazing!

The BVH is just plain awesome. It's obvious that they really care about animals. They treat the animals with the same respect and care as you would expect when treating a person. They are always respectful and caring and they listen to your concerns and needs. Although busy they are prompt and actively working to care for animals. When they are delayed they actually come to inform you why things are being held up. They are however a very busy office and wait times can be very long as a walk-in, It is strongly advised that you have an appointment. On my recent visit to care for my elderly cat they actually saw us earlier than my appointed time. However when my cat was very ill and I had to come as an emergency my wait time was much much longer. This is an emergency hospital however and emergency surgeries may take place affecting their appointment schedule. The entire facility is very clean and cared for, there are restrooms, a nice waiting area, and a child's play area as well. As I said earlier they treat their patients with care and love and not like cattle as I've experienced at other veterinarians. Thank you for your care and compassion.

Pros: Very nice staff. They do care and do what they can for ya. Cons: They generally just prescribe antibiotics for any minor problem. They always recommend expensive & unnecessary tests. Googling the problem has always returned more information than the vet. You have to schedule appointments a month in advance or pay over $100 to be seen same day.

I took my dog in because he has bleeding lumps on his belly the dr said we will do surgery tomorrow but for first let's do an xray and blood work She came back and said ok surgery is tomorrow. I brought him in today they called me 15 min after his surgery apt and said sorry we cannot do it we don't feel it will help! I picked him up and had to pay for all the testing and xrays that was only required for Surgery! Took alot of my money and still a sick dog

We took our dog in for a tooth extraction. They did the blood work and said he would be fine and would have no issues after words. He passed away 3 days later. Great looking clinic, and we had to have him cremated. Wish we never had gone there.

I wasn't too impressed with the Vet on duty that night. I brought my friends dying cat in to be put down, with all her kids, and due to the timing my direct deposit had not gone thru yet, which I explained to the staff, I asked, since the Cat was suffering, could they please go ahead with the euthination and I would stay untill my deposit cleared, which was in another hour. She told me yes, and they took the Cat back. 25 minutes later the vet rushes in with the Cat saying he is getting ready to die, lays him down and injects him. 1. We didn't have the chance to get the kids out of the room. 2. Why Did they keep the Cat in the back for 25 minutes when they'd agreed to go ahead and do the euthination b4 payment, then just as he's about to die the Vet rushes in to inject him?! He suffered another 25 minutes after I'd specifically asked that he not have to suffer anymore and it doesnt take that long to put in a catheter, i work in the medical field! I feel like the vet was waiting till he got the payment, tho i was told i could stay till the direct deposit processed, and when the cat started to die, he rushed in to do the injections. My confliction is this, tho in very grateful for the caring techs and that they were willing to wait for my deposit to process, I just really feel that the Vet didn't share the same attitude and honestly I feel he would have continued to wait to euthanize untill the payment if the Cat hadnt started to actively die. Why else would he have waited 25 minutes? I hope im wrong but that's the impression I got from the Vet. I understand fees are normally paid b4 services but I asked and let them know b4 they took the Cat to the back, and they agreed. If They didn't want to do things that way the vet could of said something and we would have left. But honestly I feel he just wanted to make sure he got his 80.00 one way or another. I just didn't want my friends cat to suffer or for her kids to see him suffer anymore. I'll never use this vet hospital again.

If I could give more stars I would. Recently had to have our dog put to sleep there and they made a very difficult time just a little less painless. The staff are polite and caring (even after I repeatedly and annoyingly called them with different questions). The facility is clean. They even followed up a week later with a hand written sympathy card. And from a pragmatic standpoint, the procedure was not as expensive as my wife or I was expecting. Great place. Great staff.

By far the best and passionate staff I have ever seen at a veterinary hospital. I recently had to put my best friend of 15 years to sleep and the staff was second to none. The vet was so compassionate that he even had tears in his eyes for a dog he had never seen or known before. Talking about loving what you do, "WOW". They even sent a card that was actually hand written not computer generated. I will always take my furry kids here going forward. For me, price isn't an issue if you truly love your best friend and I'm far from being rich. To me the price was fair everytime I've been there. All I can say is thank you BAKERSFIELD VETERINARY HOSPITAL.

It would be wonderful if your location could extend appointment hours later into the afternoon or on Saturdays, but I wouldn't take my pets anywhere else either way. They are great. I have 4 dogs and 3 cats and the offices are clean, the staff very helpful. I live about 50 miles away and it is so worth the drive. The prices are much more reasonable than the vet I was taking them to. My 130lb American Bulldog needed surgery and they were able to get him in for his tests that he needed when I did not have a standing appointment. I’m very happy and so are my pets.

Careful when taking puppies for shots, they are not allowed to touch the floor. So I would recommend a carrier. Hope this helps

I took my dog in 1 week ago for her teeth to be looked at because they need cleaned and/or extracted. That appointment went okay. An appointment for her teeth to be cleaned/extracted was made for today. Upon making the appointment, I was told to bring the records with me and that if she needed any vaccinations, they could do it. My assumption was that this could be done at time of service. I had my dog fast as advised and took her in at 7:05 a.m. as I was told drop-off was between 7-8 a.m. I sat in there for about 25 minutes after checking in for them to tell me they would not do the procedure because my dog does not have her distemper up-to-date. They said they could do the distemper vaccine today and that only and I would have to re-schedule the appointment for her cleaning. Mind you, I live way on the east side of town and now have my dog with me at work (in the Southwest part of town as well) because I cannot drive her all the way home and back out to work. I am very frustrated and will not be choosing them as my go-to any longer. Advice to Bakersfield Vet: Take the time to really explain to your customer how everything works and that services will not be rendered unless you have exactly what you need prior. Don't rush your customers when they are paying your high office visit fees only for them to be let down on their next visit because things weren't explained properly.

It's $$$$$, if you don't have an appointment. However, the Dr's & staff are excellent!!!!! If you have to put a feline to sleep, it's only $76, even during after hours, without an appointment. That's only $20+ than City of Bkfd Animal Control and you don't have to wait 2-1/2 months.

My first experience with Bakersfield Vet was for an emergency with my 16 year old chihuahua. Unfortunately the situation resulted in my having to put my dog down, but the staff were all very kind and caring throughout the whole process. I did have to wait a while, but that's to be expected as they try to fit in emergencies along scheduled appointments (especially on a weekend). I decided then to start taking my other dog to BVH. Just had her first appointment for shots and once again had a great experience. Facility is clean and the people really care about our pets.

Last year our ,jackrussel got the tiny ring of a dog collar catugh on his eye lid,some pet owners would think a thing like that dangerous. The hospital gave our boy a shot to relax him and help him be at ease. They didn't speak harsh to him witch harshman add to their discomfort, they trained well ,didn't take long removing the collar from his lid,my baby didn't have the anxiety he has had a other pet hospital. I have a few more persesur need to be done .this is where I trust he will have them done

This was the WORST 24 hour Veterinary Hospital known to man. If you want certain death, go to them, if you want a 20 second evaluation that ends up in euthanasia; go to them. If you have money on Paypal and they claim to take Paypal but somehow won't accept your Paypal funding and your pet can not receive treatment and dies, go to them. If you want to be treated like a money bag, go to them. May this establishment fail.

We took our cat Bane because he could not use his back legs and was having a hard breathing. Well he was worse off then we thought and to our heart break we had to put him down. These people were so warm and understanding with us who understanding were a wreak. We had him cremated and order his box then. Took about 3-4 weeks and they called saying he was ready to be picked up. This place is the only place we'll bring any of our cats again. We love you Bane

This place is amazing. I needed to find a place to put my cat down as she was sick and suffering. I called many places and not only did this place have the lowest price by far but they were the only ones to not complicated it with so many options when I was already distressed. I believe it was a flat rate of $67 with the option to buy a keepsake paw print for about $30. That's it. Every person was nice and understanding and I never felt rushed. This is the only place I will go. The facility is nice and clean. We were given a room immediately. Highly recommend this place.

Four months ago we adopted Rex, a rescue dog. He has been terrified of the water hose, shampoo towelettes and anything having to do with grooming since he became part of our family. We had a horrible experience at another grooming pet hospital. Rex was sedated and manhandled, which hurt his already bad leg. Mobile groomers did not want to deal with him. What to do?...I was recommended Bakersfield Veterinary Hospital. I called and spoke with grooming personnel. They were very engaged and asked smart, thoughtful questions. Once we arrived the setting was calm, clean and beautiful. Sarah the groomer met with Rex and got him at ease quickly & sweetly. Sarah said she was going to try to groom him without sedation. I didn't believe she could do it; but a few hours later Rex was ready for pick up. He did great, was beautifully groomed and all with no sedation. Thank you Sarah & BVH. Rex has found his grooming & boarding home.

I brought my pitbull here, they were quick to check him in i ended up haveing to put him down that night the worst night of my life and they were so caring genital with me and my dog Lucas. He was my world. I had to go get his ashes they put some in my neckles for me and when my sons came i brought Lucas's ashes back 32 days later to have some of Lucas's ashes put in his neckless for him. They treat me and my doggy with love, concern & kindness. They always make over my fur baby. I always feel special and so does my fur baby. He just is so happy when they make over him. And the grooming I've been very happy with everyone. They take great care of my doggy. And they are always respectful and sweet. And do a great job. As my fur baby can be very challenging for them to do his nails because he is grumpy over getting his nails trimmed. But they deal with it and get it done.
