REVIEWS OF Hillcrest Animal Hospital IN Arkansas

From the moment we walked into the office the staff and team there put our fur baby’s health as a top priority!! We will forever be greatful for finding Hillcrest Animal Hospital!!!

Stephanie Lopez

I've taken all my animals for years because they take good care of my babies and the vets are so kind to the animals!

David Russell

Compassionate, Knowledgeable doctors and staff. Would highly recommend to anyone.

Kristin Sullivan

Poor follow up. Called after having our cats front paws declawed. Never responded. Our cat would rather sit on its hind legs than put pressure on its paws. It's been weeks since surgery. Our first cat didn't have any of this pain post-surgery. We used Benton Veterinary hospital and they were very attentive and caring. Will not be back.

Alexandra Lyles

The doctors and staff here love and treat every pet that comes through like its their own. Everyone has a positive attitude and are very processional! One of the best veterinary clinics in the state of Arkansas!

Steven Thomas

Dr. Clark and the entire staff at Hillcrest are absolutely the best. The sincere and terrific care they have shown to us and our dog Willow couldn't have been better. We know she is getting the best care available anywhere and recommend Hillcrest for all your precious pet's medical needs.

Tiffany Lueken

These people are the greatest, they'll go above and beyond to take care of your pet. Highly recommend.

Lacey Newell

They always treat my fur baby with love, and she adores it. Really good place to take your pets. Dr. Clark is the best vet I've ever been to!

Frances Fendler

I have been a Hillcrest client for 40 years. The vets have always been top notch. I tell all my friends to take their pets there when other vets have been unable to help. Dr. Laura Erikson has taken care of my dogs for over 15 years. She is always caring and is a great diagnostician. Hillcrest may not be the cheapest vet clinic in town, but I believe it’s the best.

Dr Clark seemed unhurried and only concerned for my dogs issues. She listened to me, she examined thoroughly, We have seen a number of veterinarians through many dogs. Hillcrest overall and the Nafes and Clark in particular have been outstanding clinicians.

While there is a core of excellent doctors here, this is a practice in dire need of restructuring. When you enter the hospital, you are confronted with a confused wall of reception staff -- typically four or five -- who don't seem to have a clear idea about what is going on. During every visit or phone call, they complain about the poor quality of their computers. And in the absence of a clear manager, they are chatty and unfocused. The lack of strong management is also clear in the behavior of the vet techs, who also display a lack of attention. During the recent health crisis of my pet, I witnessed them huddled together and chatting about holiday plans while my dog, as it turns out, was dying feet away from them. Finally, staff vet Dr. Razer seems burned out and too distracted to communicate effectively with staff or clients. In my case, she preferred to discharge my dog rather than mobilize her team to provide urgent care. Maybe it's time to bring a younger vet in who still has passion for the work? Under these circumstances, it is probably misleading to call this practice a "hospital" when it is really GP-type clinic for non-emergency illnesses and injuries. I don't know if my dog would have lived. But anyone who has spent time working in a business or organization can spot breakdowns in the process of delivering professional services. I hope they can fix these shortcomings for you and your pet.

Joe Citizen

Despite being sometimes very expensive and rest well night that I get honest and open and complete picture of my animals healthcare.

Please do not take your pets here. I got my dog in on short notice and thought with 4.6 stars this place would be good... not sure what other owners have experienced or if they think this place is on par with 5 stars, but for me it is not. Walked in and immediately noticed the place smelled like dog. Other vet clinics smell like cleaner, I go to Bark Bar and that place never smells like wet dog despite the high volume of dogs in there due to proper hygiene. I take my dog back to the room and everything was done out of sight- the weighing, temperature, and exam. Immediately I was uncomfortable. My dog had a previous cracked tooth that was confirmed by a previous vet and was made worse when I gave her a antler. Vet comes back in and says she sees nothing wrong with her teeth. At this point my dog has a fever and won't eat anything hard. I asked her to check her teeth infront of me (since vet admitted she couldn't get a "good look") and I said it's because I wasn't holding her. My dog has extreme anxiety around strangers and she's small and has never had issues with vets or groomers when I'm around. Long story and expensive vet bill later for some blood work and a shot, the vet refused to look at her mouth with me there but wanted to keep her there in the facility for some reason. I said no thanks and made an appointment with another vet. Who did the whole exam (shots included) with me there. And saw right away my dogs extremely fractured and decaying tooth. I even saw it and the vet never even had to pry my dogs mouth open. Not sure if this place is incompetent or simply never looked. Please read the negative reviews on here first. Everything I experienced that day was posted on here, and I could have spared myself and my dog the trouble.

I can not say enough good things about this hospital. Everyone is so nice and caring and the doctors are the best in the state. My dog was so sick and the doctors worked together to find out his problem, treat him and get him home to me. I will forever be grateful to them. They are voted "Best Veterinarians" every year and now I know why.

Wonderful, quick service. They squeezed my dog in, even though I called an hour before closing. Dr. Fitzpatrick was attentive and thorough. She respected me and my wishes, and worked out an acceptable solution so I could bring him back home overnight and then back in the next day for further treatment. EVERYONE was friendly and helpful. Thank you for getting my boy feeling better quickly! Whenever we're back in the area, if needed, it'll be Hillcrest Animal Hospital for my boy!

While we had several positive experiences here in the 3.5 years we have utilized their care, we have also had several negative experiences. My senior cat has been treated while left in their care without my consent or knowledge (they apologized and I decided to let it go because the course of treatment made sense) but when my cat was diagnosed with generalized IBS/Possible cancer with no other option but to scope her or do more expensive testing I was forced to let it go for her well being (because really...who is going to put an old kitty through unnecessary pain?). I consented to x-rays and a blood test all came back normal...but I found out TODAY after recieving her chart in the mail that she has a nodule on her thyroid!! We were not notified of this finding and had we known we would have insisted on following up on it (older kitties have a tendency to develop hyperthyroidism/diabetes which fit her symptoms). We switched vets who immediately drew a CBC at my request and diagnosed my sweet girl with hyperthyroidism. She's now medicated, gaining weight (.5 lb in a month!) And is no longer sick the way she used to be. Three years of misery my cat endured because these doctors did not communicate effectively with us or themselves. My poor girl has a heart murmur now due to delayed treatment. To say I'm upset, disappointed and angry is an understatement.

Tammy Shepherd

Our regular vet referred us to Hillcrest for treatments such as ultrasounds and surgeries. I cannot say enough good things about this business. Everyone is so nice and helpful. The vets are professional and explain everything in a thorough manner.

Cate Davis Handley

They have been very helpful with my aging lab, but are very reasonable and won't run a bunch of expensive unnecessary tests.

The staff seems a little unorganized, but maybe it is just lack of area/space/sq.ft of the building. Several staff members clutter up at the front check-in/check-out station. Very small waiting area with front door in between waiting chairs. Our Vetrinarian was great, explained everything and patiently going thru our many many questions. Check-out and pay process takes a long time, very difficult to control a pet (especially large dog breed, with the excitment of others pets and owners being in close proximity).

I use to work here, and hated several things about this place. Most of all they make the staff lie to the customers. We've never had a bad experience at Hillcrest since moving to Bartlett nearly 4 years ago. The Vets seem to truly care about the animals that they see. We've utilized their boarding and grooming services as well and they are fantastic!

Dr. Ambrose is my fur babies usual vet. he is so awesome with them (both cats and dogs). he really loves animals and is very very caring of their owners as well. I would recommend him to anyone planning on going to hillcrest. This week I needed to see someone for a next day appointment. it wasn't hard to get in, although Dr. Ambrose wasn't at the office when I was available so I saw Dr. Smith. The vet tech was very shy and didn't know how to handle my dog (who I treat like my child). He isn't difficult at all, but he isn't going to go through a door with a stranger and she was dragging him by his collar through the door. Note: we were there for a swollen throat. They began to look at his ears and throat, noticing he had an ear infection but did nothing about it because it wasn't why we were there. The dr. who saw us wasn't sympathetic AT ALL. she told my my dog had cancer, asked if I had any questions and sent me on my way. but not before telling me the cost of chemo therapy and how awesome the payment plan at the clinic was... now I am at home trying to enjoy the last few months with my baby dog.

David Bahniuk

We have been taking our animals to Hillcrest Animal Hospital for at least 10 years they have saved the lives literally of several of our dogs we just recently took her Chihuahua there and it ended up he was having grand mal seizures that was very helpful he put him on a special medication that is kept the seizures from reappearing we take our beagle there all the time for her check-ups and her procedures and she's very very happy they've got good grooming services good morning Services everything about us the best

Douglas Thompson

Once you're back with the Dr's it's all good but you'd better have a lot of time to spare. They're slow and it takes quite awhile to be called on. Poorly staffed!!

Riley Matthews

Dr Ledbetter performed tightrope surgery on my dog. He educated me on my options and let me make the decision without guilt that a higher cost surgery was her option.

Blake Smith

I have used this clinic before in the past but not anymore. Recently had an appointment in the clinic and the air conditioning was not working. I was told it had been out all day and by my appointment time at 3:30 it was extremely hot and uncomfortable for both myself and my dog. Did the staff call me and ask if I would prefer to reschedule due to the situation? No, they did not. They did not want to loose the money. Unfortunately, that is what it is all about at this clinic. It is not about service. The staff has changed for the worse too and the prices are no longer competitive. One front desk staff person named Tina - long black hair and glasses - is very condescending, unprofessional, and rude. I have witnessed this in person at the front desk while attempting to purchase meds for my dog. She needs basic training in proper customer service etiquette. For this and other reasons, I have closed my account with this clinic and will not be returning.

Kat Gilland

They are soooo sweet. Took our Magnus in to board when we had to leave town last minute fir a funeral. He had a great time and left smelling sweet and happy.

Haven taken many pets here over the years I am done. They have gotten so busy the staff are very rude and short.. They seem to have lost sight as to why they got into veterinary practice to begin with. I am so dissappointed in this practice.. I have been talked down to and had my pet mishandled by vets there. Have had my pet pay the price this time. Didn't even get a sympathy card . I wouldn't recommend this vet to anyone who truly cares about their pet. If staff is in a bad mood it will be taken out on your and your pet. I promise you that. They have lost all personal touch. All sincerity and respect for their clients. (Human & furry) There is one vet there (Dr. Ledbery) who is one of the most wonderful vets there is. But it is difficult to get an appt with him and you still have to put up with the rude, disrespectful staff. Not worth it.

I recently have a rescue dog and wanted to get her checked out before we decided to keep her. This was the only clinic that accepts walk ins on a Saturday. Love Dr. LaVergne. She has been caring for my pups since 2005. Wouldn’t go to any other vet. She is very good with my anxious pup and never does more than is necessary. Excellent diagnostician. Can’t say enough nice things about Sonya LaVergne.

We were a referral from our hometown vet because mine was unable to do the procedure necessary. Hillcrest Animal Hospital was able to get us in the next day. All of the staff members were extremely friendly as soon as we walked in the door. They were quick and efficient. You can tell they love their jobs and care about their customers. It was a difficult time for our family with the issues we had with my dog and they were very caring. Dr. Erickson was simply AMAZING! She called twice personally to give an update. Having people with such sweet spirits definitely makes the hardship better. I would def recommend.

Highly competent, highly compassionate, and some of the best animal doctors around. However, the prices are much higher than other vets for normal shots, checkups, etc. I would have never left, but I just couldnt afford to bring both of my dogs and cats here and finally had to find anothr vet. But I love, love, love the vets here!

Just happened to walk by this clinic after I found a stray dog. They were busy, but they were quick to help me scan him for a chip and give me options on places to reach out to and websites to post him. The girls at the front desk were all upbeat and very willing to help, even though they were packed! Definitely recommend them, great service! Hard to come by now a days. Im not even sure my parents' vet would have gotten me in so quickly.

I have been a client at Hillcrest Animal Hospital for many years ... through 3 dogs and 2 cats. I have always been treated well and so have my pets! I've never had to wait and they have been very respectful and sensitive when there came a time that all pet owners hate ... My pets have received excellent, professional care, and I have confidence and trust in them.

If you have a Bichon, you know exactly what I'm talking about! I would definitely recommend Hillcrest Animal Hospital. They get two thumbs up from me and two paws up from Joey!

Some of the doctors are excellent and some are not. Do your research first. Parking is a joke - they dont have a parking lot, more like a giant driveway. Usually the waits aren't long, although I waited 20 minutes yesterday for one bottle of pills that was already filled. But that was due to (imo) too many cooks in the kitchen.

Ryan Hohenfield

The staff is always so kind and helpful! One of my dogs just went for the first time and they were so helpful taking care of everything. My other dog has been going for years with no issues!

Amanda Whitlock

Hillcrest was the best when facing an unknown situation with my fur baby. Dr. Clark and the rest of the team did all they could to find out what happened and remedy it. When it was determined the circumstances wouldn't allow further treatment, then they were exceptionally kind in dealing with other arrangements. The doctors and staff are wonderful.

Jaimin Vashi

A very lovely place when it comes to taking care of customers. My most impressive point was the staff and the doctors, the advice that my doctor had for my baby was spot on. She was very understanding and real on how much I should spend to actually help versus just throwing money in that direction. Definitely recommended.

Beth White

Dr. Razer is amazing. Love Dr. Joan Nafe too!

Shelbi Trimble

The staff is super friendly. I highly recommend.

K L

Wonderful staff. They were very sweet and caring with our situation. It was sad for us and they made it easier to handle.

Dana Whitney

Been going there since 1993! And won't go anywhere else!

Jason Boyd

Heard some great things about Hillcrest Animal Hospital, and they were correct! Shari Butner was such a fantastic doctor to have help our beloved friend. She was very knowledgeable, great at explaining the situation, and seemed genuinely concerned with our sick pet. The rest of the staff was very helpful and kind as well. Recommend to anyone!

All of my dogs have gone to this vet. From yearly shots to cancer treatment best vet around

Julie D. Evans

We moved to Hot Springs a year ago and still make the drive to be able to bring out babies here. Before we even met, my husband's dog was very sick. A half dozen vet clinics and a couple thousand dollars later, nobody had any answers for him. Until he brought her to Hillcrest. Dr. Erickson diagnosed his Bella with a rare disorder and they were able to begin treatment. Flash forward 7 years and our family has grown to include 5 fur babies. There's no one I would trust more with them. Highly recommend.

jeanne duncan

I rushed my dog to Hillcrest Animal Hospital for an emergency. Front office jumped into action and vet was just as fast. Friendly and compassionate care. I received an update by phone from the vet within an hour and my best friend and I were together again that evening. Thank you to the entire staff for taking care of both of us!

Stephanie Cypert

Love them! So caring and friendly! Dr. Lavern has been amazing! I appreciate her compassion and sincere concern for my sweet baby boy L.D.

Our English Springer Spaniel named Elle has been at Hillcrest with DVM Pennington since 8 weeks old. We are very happy with her care.

Lynn Sims

I have used Hillcrest since they opened-prob 30+ years now. They have saved many of my dogs from life-threatening illnesses such as erlichia, etc. I always tease and say I would trust Larry Nafe to do heart surgery on me! Over the years, I have referred many friends there when their vets couldn’t diagnose or cure their pet. All but one of these were cured and that one just came in too late. They are miracle workers. I hear from others that they are too expensive-probably because they are so skilled that they know when to run diagnostic tests such as ultra sounds, ct scans, etc. And those are costly. But my pets are always worth it!

Sara Daily

Sweet organized staff. Concerned about our dog.

Andrew Richardson

My dog gets nervous around a lot of other people and dogs, but the staff here were so sweet to Archie! Thank you!

Holly Hall

Last week, I took my elderly Persian to Hillcrest Animal Hospital for a second opinion on her hypertension. I was blown away by the caring staff and especially the wonderful Dr Lavergne! Isabella Grace and I are huge fans and will be coming back!

Alberta Henry-Anderson

Takes Good Care of my Dog!!!

Hannah McCoy

Love Dr. LaVergne. She has been caring for my pups since 2005. Wouldn’t go to any other vet. She is very good with my anxious pup and never does more than is necessary. Excellent diagnostician. Can’t say enough nice things about Sonya LaVergne.

Mark Jernigan

Can’t say enough great things about Dr. Nafe and the staff at this Hospital. The advanced training the staff has, sets them well above their competitors. They truly love doing the work they do. I recommend them to everyone.

Pamela Reed

Rebekah Prince

The staff was extremely knowledgeable and friendly. I would recommend this place for any specialty services your pet needs.

Erin Marks

Nothing at all! LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this place, the people, and the other animals/customers! :)

Thomas Alexander

If you have a pet that is near and dear to your heart...I mean a pet that is like waaaay in a whole different category that requires the best treatment with the highest yield that money can buy...this is your go-to veterinary clinic. Doctor Ledbury is the King (like Elvis) of taking care of your special pet without all of the fees & nonsense. He truly is a sweetheart of a man that is like an animal whisperer and his staff is of the same caliber. Each year I spend a few minutes with customers coming in while I am leaving with Baby Girl and they all say the same thing, "Dr. Ledbury is the veterinarian's world's best kept secret." Plenty of parking, they don't overbook, they just do it like the King..."they do it the best."

Mary Roberson

Stephanie Anderson

We've had a few issues with boarding, but in the end the lead vet/ owner is very humble and willing to do anything to make sure your animal is well taken care of.

Troy Brazile

Highly competent, highly compassionate, and some of the best animal doctors around. However, the prices are much higher than other vets for normal shots, checkups, etc. I would have never left, but I just couldnt afford to bring both of my dogs and cats here and finally had to find anothr vet. But I love, love, love the vets here!

P. Willis

Mandy Cunningham

They are so loving and excellent with our pets. Thank you Hillcrest for the love and care you showed Abby Pratt. We don't know where we would be without her.

Brenda Coleman

Absolutely love going and taking our precious furbabies.. Dr. Cary Ledbury is our vet and I don't believe there is a more caring or compassionate vet anywhere.... Office staff and everyone are always so helpful and very nice..... They are all great and all about taking the time we need......

Wes Toncre

This is the best vet office in the midsouth! Great caring vets, reasonably priced and walk-ins welcome. They have helped me say goodbye to seven terriers and are caring for five more now. This is a wonderful place because of the vets they select to work here and wonderful staff they hire. This facility was built on love and compassion for animals and their owners. I have been taking my babies here for over 30 years!

Joe Barnard

Great Animal Hospital that we have used for about 20 years in Bartlett, Tn. Great staff and knowledgeable and compassionate veterinarians. Also good boarding facility !

Jennifer McCracken

They far exceeded our expectations in getting our 13 year old dog cared for!

Burla Sims

We were seen promptly and the treatment was successful. Dr. Lavergne always does a good job.

Anna Carner

Just happened to walk by this clinic after I found a stray dog. They were busy, but they were quick to help me scan him for a chip and give me options on places to reach out to and websites to post him. The girls at the front desk were all upbeat and very willing to help, even though they were packed! Definitely recommend them, great service! Hard to come by now a days. Im not even sure my parents' vet would have gotten me in so quickly.

Bob Carr

I have been taking my dogs and cats to this clinic for almost 25 years. They always recieve knowledgeable and loving care. I wouldnt think of taking them anywhere else,

Don Deems

I have been a client at Hillcrest Animal Hospital for many years ... through 3 dogs and 2 cats. I have always been treated well and so have my pets! I've never had to wait and they have been very respectful and sensitive when there came a time that all pet owners hate ... My pets have received excellent, professional care, and I have confidence and trust in them.

Ann Plunk

We've used Hillcrest Animal Hospital for almost 40 years now. Always great vets, kind and understanding with all our pets (dogs and cats) over the years. Wouldn't take our fur babies anywhere else.

Amazing vet service pricey but amazing especially first-time pet owner.

Jill Cravens

I love Hillcrest Animal Hospital! Everyone is so nice and friendly. I appreciate all of the patience they have shown with my crazy dog Joey. If you have a Bichon, you know exactly what I'm talking about! I would definitely recommend Hillcrest Animal Hospital. They get two thumbs up from me and two paws up from Joey!

Have brought my two little dogs here for years for grooming and health care. My dogs have never acted scared coming here! Says a lot. One had to be put down last year and they handled it so well. My other little dog, even with some health problems is continuing to do well under their care.

Tamra Oesch

Receptionists at this office do not have good customer service. On top of that, the vet tech/assistant that brought me back was very short and carried my cat out of the examination room in a "football" like hold dangling from her side. When she brought him back in, she dropped him straight on the floor for him to scurry under my chair, rather than handing him to me. And I mean DROPPPED (not set) on the floor. Then, when the Vet came in for the exam and my cat struggled during the examination the assistant curtly reprimanded my cat with a "stop it!" while holding his scruff. My cat is skittish and I understand needing to hold him down during an exam, but no reprimand is necessary. I was unhappy with my pets handling at this place, as well as the customer service. I will not bring my animals back to this office.

Dionne Clark

Receptionist were rude and short tempered. They talk down to you like your stupid.Being busy wasn't even the excuse. They were not. I was totally ignored when I first walked in by one lady and the other had me feeling quite frustrated by the time I was done The doc and nurses were great.i work in the public and u would loose my job if I treated customers the way the receptionists treated me.

Hillcrest was the only hospital that would do same day surgery for our girl Sheila after an emergency the night before. Sight unseen. Dr. Ledburry did an excellent job removing the mass from her mouth. The staff was incredibly caring and professional.

Rustian Dunn

Are cats had some breathing issues and they were able to see us right away within the hour. The place was professional and top-notch. This has been the only that who in the last 10 years has been able to handle my cat without freaking her out. Usually my cat's a drama queen but they did an excellent job being able to Wrangle her, diagnose her, and treat her.

Karen Mccracken

I came to this vet a few years ago, but I was greatly impressed and am considering making them my main vet.

Everyone at Hillcrest is professional and friendly. They have always been able to work us in for emergencies and have convenient Saturday hours too. Dr. Hunt truly loves animals and is so patient.

I was referred here from my regular veterinarian in Conway for an abdominal ultrasound. My dog, Benji, had been vomiting for 3 days. This clinic went above and beyond. I was able to get in for an appointment the same day. Wait time was minimal, the doctor was thorough and knowledgeable but also very down to earth and caring. Kathryn Rehmert

I brought my dog in because she had an ear infection. When I made the appointment they mentioned she was due for her annual vaccines. I said Yes, I know but she has an ear infection and has scratched a scab off the top of her head which was bleeding. They made an appointment for that afternoon which was great. I took her in and was greeted immediately and everyone was very nice. While we waited, they kept apologizing that they did not have a room yet but I did not mind. Someone came out and said she was going to take her and weigh her. (I assumed that was to save time as they were busy) They brought her back and soon we were called to a room. The Vet walked in with a clipboard full of shots and started to give her an injection while telling me she was fecal and heart worm negative. I said Wait a minute!! We are here for her ear. She was not tested for heart worms or fecal testing. She then told me "Oh we did that when we weighed her!" WHAT!!?? Then she proceeds to tell me it is fine to give her her annual vaccines as she is giving them. Sheesh! She then looked at her but did not use an otoscope or anything. She asked if she could "trim a little fur" from the scabbed area on her head (about the size of a dime) to look at it. They took her out of the room and returned her. She handed me some medicine and told me to use it twice a day. I asked her if she had cleaned out the fur and debris from her ear and was told yes. Got her home. Checked her ear, it was still a mess! Fur all matted down in it and crusty discharge all over the outside. Then I looked at her head. They easily shaved off a silver dollar's worth of her fur...ON TOP OF HER HEAD, to look at a healing scab... $196.00 for all this! They even charged me for the tag from the county! WOW... I am not used to my dog being taken out of the exam room, ever. I do not like it, nor do I like being lied to. I do not appreciate tests being performed without my knowledge or permission, either. We will be transferring our care ASAP.

GTPanther99

I always have a positive experience in the Hillcrest Animal Hospital, even when i’m there for serious situations with my fur babies.

Jules D

Caring, talented vets and sweet, attentive assistants. Prices on the high side of the spectrum.

Dana Crowell

Three stars because of the disorganization at front desk. We had an appointment that was set up by our regular vet, but we weren’t called back until 50 minutes past appointment. The vet came in and asked why we were there despite the fact that our vet had sent records over - twice! The vet we saw was great and we received great care for our dog, but the check-in process, excessive wait and overall chaotic feel were unnerving.

Sherry Little

Very, very poor pet care and poor pet owners treatment. All they are interested in is collecting huge sums of money and not being honest with the pet owner. We were strung along for one solid year - throwing good money after bad on account of the veterinarians in this clinic gave us false hope for our dog to get well. In the end, another veterinarian told us he never would get well - we would be just paying out and medicating him trying to keep him alive. We spent over $3000 on the premise that “it will probably take a lon time to get him well - we don’t know how long...”. try NEVER!! This is unforgiveable. We could never, in good conscience reommend this clinic to anyone.

James Brecheisen

They got me an appointment on short notice and the service was great.

Thaddeus James

EDIT/UPDATE: After a few calls back and forth, the doctor who saw us could not have been more upset with this situation. She, and the office manager, completely resolved this issue and went out of their way to let me know that they want our business and care about our experience with them. I can say that they turned a complete negative into a positive and we will give them another shot. ================================== Based on our one and only visit, and the reviews here, I am sure this vet clinic does a good job. However this review is to voice my disgust with their recent FaceBook promotion. It offers a free wellness exam with rabies shots. We claimed the offer and we happy to give them a chance to earn our business. The visit went well and then they gave me a bill for $150. When I protested they told me that the free wellness exam only covered the office visit cost, not the exam. BAIT AND SWITCH. They lied to us and cheated us and offered no excuse except to say that we should have known better and that you should always be skeptical of a free offer. This shows a complete lack of moral fiber and I wish they were as good with people as they were with animals. We will not be back.

Nancy DeLamar

Excellent care for my dogs and cats for many years. The veterinarians and staff have been with me through my various pets’ puppyhood to end-of-life, always with responsive, compassionate, persistent care. I recommend Hillcrest Animal Hospital to anyone looking for a medical partner for the life of your pet or for an emergency that needs attention. You’ll be greeted warmly and with immediate care and assistance.

Erika Warriner

Solid vet that consistently meets my needs and takes care of my pets - planned and unplanned. The fact that they have always made room for my pets when they are suddenly ill, means a lot to me.

Excellent service. Love the girls up front, they're really helpful.

Debbie May

We have used Hillcrest Animal Hospital and Dr. Joan and Dr. Larry Nafe for over 15 years. They have always been friendly, caring, kind and honest. Little Rock is most fortunate to have a vet with the vast training and experience of Dr. Larry Nafe. He is truly a miracle worker. This past year our 3 lb. Yorkie had a severe neck/spinal injury that left us with no hope of survival without surgery and quality of life issues with surgery. They were very honest and kind when explaining the risks and odds involved. They were very thorough in explaining the costs of the surgery and long term follow up after surgery. We chose surgery and prayed for a miracle. Because of Dr. Larry's deft touch and excellent skills we have our miracle. The accident was a year ago Valentine's Day. Our Yorkie can walk again and move his neck. We are most thankful for Hillcrest Animal Hospital and will continue to highly recommend them.

Michael Narcisse-Cousar

Always always always at the top of their profession. The best place to bring pets.

Hillcrest is a FANTASTIC place for veterinary care. Dr. Ledbury is a wonderful man and has an oustanding bedside manner. He handles our pets with care and compassion. We have seen him for the last five years or so. Would recommend to anyone! Grooming services are great, too!

Barbara Sowell

I appreciate Hillcrest Animal Hospital. I have 2 small dogs and the hospital vet actually took swabs of the infected areas on the dogs and gave medicine and shots to cure the problems. I had been using another vet group for a few years but have now changed to Hillcrest. The other vet just “looked” at the the areas and gave medicine that did not work. The staff is extremely friendly and helpful. Thank you.

Tom Richardson

We've been using Hillcrest for over 20 years and are thoroughly pleased with the veterinarians and staff. Drs. Ledbury, Ambrose, and Weatherly have all provided our dogs, cats, and ferrets with professional and compassionate care. Hillcrest was extremely supportive in working with the Bartlett Animal Shelter Committee's work to raise $250,000 to build the shelter. It was my privilege to serve on that committee. I strongly doubt you will find more competent veterinary care for your pet in the Shelby County area.

I took my 5 year old Akita to Dr.Nafe on my local vets recommendation. He had a torn ACL ligament, right knee.We were told to be there a 8 AM.We were put in a room a 1:30 PM.OK,I understand that sometime emergencies happen and they are taken first.I am a Gyn surgeon and practiced for 25 years, so I understand. When we finally were put into a room I of course had some questions for Dr.Nafe.He spent 4 or 5 minutes with me and was obviously put out at having to respond to my questions. He was condescending and arrogant and finally said and I quote "do you want me to operate on your dog or not?"So he did and we live not in Little Rock but out of town.We were told to go home and we would receive a call when the surgery was finished, we did not.I have since taken him to Dr. Sharp in Greenwood Ar.He is a fellow in the College of Vet Orthopedic Surgeons. He spent easily 25 to 30 minutes explaining my dogs condition. In his opinion Nafe did the wrong procedure.A dog the size of an Akita needs hardware for the repair.Nafe only knows how to do the procedure requiring a graft. The repair has never taken even after 18 weeks on a leash.I spent $3000 dollars there and my dog is no better than he was prior to surgery.Nafe is obviously burned out and needs to retire. This was an awful experience.Do not let him operate on your dog.Jerry Jones M.D. Conway Ar.

Love the attention they give to their 4 legged and 2 legged clients. Thank you for the dedication !

Always nice and very helpful.

Great Veterinarians and staff

latrice turner

Very warm staff and great doctors. I recommend bringing your pets here.

RR R

Very nice staff and took good care of our Carson :) We will definitely come back.

mike nichols

We've used Hillcrest for all of our pets since it was owned by Dr. Griggs. He was a wonderful vet and I never thought I'd be as happy with another. But Dr. Ledbury proved me wrong. He is the most compassionate doctor I could ask for with all of our animals (we have 3 dogs and 2 cats). He spends plenty of time explaining things, and he always remembers intricate details about each animal. We moved out of Bartlett well over a decade ago, but I still drive the extra distance for the exceptional care he provides.

Dennis Cupp

Dare i say it...but i think Dr Ambrose loves our 3 italian greyhounds more than we do! He's more than just a vet, he genuinely cares about the well being of our dogs. He is super attentive when we are at the vet and he often follows up by phone days later to make sure our furry friends are improving. My mom used to take her dogs to Hillcrest many many years ago and i take ours there today. This has to be the best Vet Practice in the Mid South!

All have been very caring

Nancy DeLamar

Excellent care for my dogs and cats for many years. The veterinarians and staff have been with me through my various pets’ puppyhood to end-of-life, always with responsive, compassionate, persistent care. I recommend Hillcrest Animal Hospital to anyone looking for a medical partner for the life of your pet or for an emergency that needs attention. You’ll be greeted warmly and with immediate care and assistance.

Ben Gibson

Dr. Steven Ambrose is a true gentleman ... provided euthanasia services for my long-time companion Cole the cat.

Erika Warriner

Solid vet that consistently meets my needs and takes care of my pets - planned and unplanned. The fact that they have always made room for my pets when they are suddenly ill, means a lot to me.

Kylie Corriveau

We have been bringing our 4 yr old standard poodle here since he was 5 months old, staff are wonderful, Dr. Erikson is great- down to earth and really enjoys seeing us and seeing how Ace has grown and matured.

eswood23

Love the doctors but the front desk staff is lacking at best.

Nikki H.

We've been a client for a long time and service at the front desk just gets worse and worse every time I have to come in for an appointment. Today was the last straw. I walk in at 450 for my 5 o'clock appointment, one lady behind the desks ask can she help me I tell her what I am there for, she looks over at the other lady and asks her to help me, she doesn't acknowledge me, I keep standing there, she still doesn't speak, she then answers the phone to help a customer calling in, I continue to stand there, finally I go sit down and wait for some kind of acknowledgement and get nothing so I walk out the door. Then the doctor calls asking where we are for our appointment and we explain to her what just happened so she says she will pass this over to the office manager because that is not how they treat customers. Obviously you don't care about customers so I will look for a new vet who hopefully has better customer service as the front desk people are the first impression. Its unfortunate that the front desk ruins it for the rest of the staff. Doctors are great and I never have issues with them.

Its an awesome place to take your pets. The doctors are wonderful and they take the time to make sure you understand everything thats going on with your fur baby. The staff makes you and your fur baby feel like you're a part of their family. Definitely a place i would recommend to anyone with 4 legged babies.

Nina Luttrell

Dr. Ambrose is the best!

Jon Pruett

This clinic is top notch! We had an emergency with one of our pups and they took him in and diagnosed the issue with speed and elegance. I couldn't imagine trusting any other clinic with my babies!

Patrick Davis

Well I've been bringing my dog here for 5 years now for annual shots, checkups, minor illnesses and even temporary boarding once due to a flood at my home. I've always felt like the staff does a good job and is caring and friendly. However... Today (Christmas Eve 2018) my dog sustained a few bite wounds from a wild animal in my backyard. I didnt have the money to bring her in and pay out of pocket until payday Friday (3 days later) so I asked if they would be willing to bill me or take a post dated check for 3 days from now and they wouldn't. I do understand... that bad apples can ruin it for the bunch, but... being a loyal customer exclusive to Hillcrest for 6 years now I felt as if they could've done something to work with me. So oh well... I'll treat my dog myself this time and might look for a new vet moving forward, one that is willing to say YES when you need them to.

This past Monday was the day for my wife and I that all pet owners dread. It was time for our beloved Fred (my shadow) to move on to the next life. We met with Dr. Ambrose who could not have been more compassionate in performing this process. He did all he could to help us through the process and afforded us all the time we needed afterwards. He even sent a hand written sympathy card expressing his concern, thoughts and prayers for our loss which is greatly appreciated. It was such a hard day as all pet owners know. I have worked with Hillcrest for many years and all of their doctors are the best in the business. They genuinely care about your pets and you. Thank you Dr. Ambrose. We will never forget your heartfelt consideration and concern.

Bobbi Jordan

I've been going here for 35 years, and have always been extremely pleased. Joan is the best!

Carolyn Crocker

Love this place! Parking is a problem if you are in a rush, but worth the service for your pets. Top notch, honest, kind, busy for a reason.

Tonisha Thorpe

Everything and everyone was pleasant. Great office staff with amazing service and care.

This review comes from a cat owner who was a patient there for 15 years. If you have unlimited funds, then you should absolutely use their phenomenal service. If your funds are limited in any way, or you just simply don't believe in spending thousands of dollars on your pet for any given problem, at any given time, then you should think about going elsewhere. You will be put in the category of not important enough to warrant a home euthanasia. Yes, before she could answer the question as to whether they do home visits for euthanasia, she had to pull up my account and then go check with the doctor to see if they do that. When confronted, I said "I guess you do that for some people but not others, right?" And she said yes! It's a shame for my cat's sake that we weren't on the list of people important enough to do this. This clinic gives great care IF you have enough money.

Mackenzie Depperschmidt

The best vet around! Super caring, and very affordable prices.

Skrdykat Junior

They may be a bit more pricey than other places, but they are well worth it (and I am not rich by any means!) Before I even used them for my cats, I called in a panic and they had a dr. call me right away and she talked to me and gave me great advice (for free, and I was a total stranger!). Recently I took in a stray cat who was on death's door and the drs and entire staff rallied around her and gave her great medical care but also love...she is thriving today. They really do care about and love animals...and respect owner's concerns, as well. Just the best. Ok fast forward 4 years...I totally agree with the man who mentioned the crowded chaos behind the front desk. The vets are still great and its obvious they care about animals BUT perhaps overworked/under-staffed? (got a wrong diagnosis for one cat and a missed diagnosis for a second.) My solution: PLEASE bring Dr. Butner back FT!! I She was the absolute best!!! I would say 4 stars now, 5 with Dr. Butner THANK YOU DR. LAVERGNE for saving my ginger boys life!!!!! The only place that would take him in w/o an appointment and w/o asking for full payment while my cat was dying. A true Godsend.

Connor Crew

I have been coming here for years and would not go anywhere else! My dog recently started limping and Dr. Razer knew right away what the problem was. We scheduled surgery for his knee and were able to get in the next day. 12 weeks later here we are, and my running buddy is as good as new!

Bakersttardis .

I have gone here for about 15 years. They were the best. Dr Sheri Butner is and was the best vet I've ever seen, and one of the kindest people. Unfortunately she is rarely if ever there anymore. We've used a few other doctors there and I have no real complaints about them in particular. This place as a whole, though, has declined drastically. Its lot of little things over the last year or so. Things easily ignored in the moment but they accumulate into why in the world am I going here? Like others have said, they've started encouraging the options that cost more, discouraging anything that doesn't bring you in. The crew at the front says 'I don't know' to anything you ask. Records are never kept straight- my large male cat's diagnosis was on my tiny female cats records and never was fixed no matter how many times I pointed it out. The kicker for me happened this last week when I was handed a bill I had no knowledge about. I was never called, email, snail-mailed, even mentioned when I was in there that this bill was accumulating even as I paid for other things. In the end they dropped the bill and said they were sorry but it required multiple phone calls, more 'I don't knows' and way too much stress on my part. I could go on. I could talk about the things my friends have experienced in the last year. The attitude and smells, etc but you can see them in the other bad reviews. I hate that this place has gone downhill. I have spent literally thousands on surgeries here, confident my cats were getting the best care. Now I can't even trust them to tell me what going on. So read the reviews good and bad before you try them. Pay attention to the dates they were posted. Maybe they'll get better again but I won't be back.

Alex Lanis

Hillcrest Animal Hospital is not my regular clinic, but my dog became seriously ill and my vet was unavailable. They understood the emergency and set up an appointment immediately. The two vets that took care of her were wonderful and did everything they could to ensure she made a full recovery. She ended up having to stay 3 nights at the clinic so that she could be watched and treated around the clock. The clinic also took into consideration my financial situation and tried to make it as affordable as possible. I really appreciated the care they took in making sure my dog was safe and I wasn't going to face financial ruin. This is definitely a vet that I would be visiting more often if I were in a slightly higher income bracket. Thanks Hillcrest Animal Hospital!

Truly the best veterinary practice I've ever been to. Scheduling an appointment online was so convenient! The front desk staff was so kind and accommodating. Dr. Razer was knowledgeable, kind, and efficient. The prices are incredibly reasonable, especially compared to other local practices. They also have a rewards program, which I think is so unique and wonderful. I will always use this office for my pets in the future!

Love this place they are a awesome team and staff helping all kinds of animals not just dog and cats also if you find a hurt animal they will help it

There is no such thing as “day care”. Your pet sits in a metal cage all day and is let out a number of 2 times a day. Boarding works the exact same. Any blanket you give your pet to sleep on, does not actually get to sleep on it. Items are overpriced on purpose to make more money and the oldest doctor there, Joan Nafe, is degrading to the workers. I have seen the way she treats the reception and is belittling to them as well as most of the staff. The lack of room and cleanliness is outrageous and in much need of expansion. Dr. Erickson is a god sent as well as many of the other doctors but it is time for some serious upgrading.

Gene Kook

We always feel like family when we bring our pets to Hillcrest. When we took in a stray puppy so dehydrated no one thought he would make it through the night, Doc Ericson even took him home to go the extra mile. He's a happy 9-year-old dog now, and we'll never go elsewhere for care of any of our animals. These folks are just plain wonderful, not just good at what they do!

Lisa Damico

People recommend this place to us but it seemed chaotic, dirty, disorganized... If you all are that popular can't you hire someone to sweep and mop animal hair once a day, week? Also, there were stacks of client files in the public restroom. What the? Something is clearly amiss in this place. Time for a overhaul.

Donna Kirkwood

We love Hillcrest Animal Hospital! The doctors and techs are compassionate and knowledge and make us feel very comfortable with the care of our pets. They treat our babies like their own. We couldn’t ask for more.

AGNKim

They have the most beautiful doctor there. Oh, also good with animals.

Megan Whitney Jameson Sheumaker

I have used Hillcrest Animal Hospital for 30 years and every single time they have gone above and beyond for my pets. The doctors there are truly amazing and do everything in their power to give the best treatment.

Brenda Brown

Best place to take your fur baby to. Very caring for your loved animals.

Eric Sexton

Great place. You can tell they really care about their patients. Have always worked with us if we needed to get our pups in quickly.

Kathryn Hudson

Hillcrest has been my vet for 13 years, they have cared for both of my fur babies with excellence and genuine caring. I wouldn't trust anyone else and I highly recommend them, each doctor has been exceptional.

Hannah Carbonneau

This clinic is fabulous. As a former client and employee, I can attest that ALL of the doctors, and ALL of the staff care for our pets with the highest degree of professionalism, skill-level, and cutting-edge technology. If I still lived in the Little Rock area I would take my pets back to Hillcrest in a heartbeat.

DEBRA MEEKS

I have gone to Hillcrest Animal Hospital for the past twenty years. Dr. Ledbury is my very favorite. He has been with me when my best little dog was sick and died. He was always so kind to her. Her name was Koa, and mean as a snake to everyone but me. He was always patient with her and gave her the best of care. I now have ChiChi and she is a piece of cake at the vet. If you want excellent care for your pets I recommend Hillcrest Animal Hospital.

Ben Patterson

Always great to deal with. I have seen many doctors there over the years and they have all treated my dogs better than my doctor treats me.

Lindsey Massey

Dr. Ambrose takes wonderful care of my elderly pup. Their grooming service is wonderful and she always comes out smelling wonderful for a full week! The staff both at the veterinary office, dental cleaning and grooming are very warm and friendly and always remember my dog by name. We also used Hillcrest for our family vet when I had a cat over 20 years ago. Their service and expertise are fantastic!

Great Drs. Treat my fur baby special.

Daphne Bawcum

Just like most of us, our pets get nervous and stressed when they go see their doctor. Not my Izzy. She loves going to Hillcrest. Whether it’s seeing the vet, going to be groomed or being boarded, Izzy is a happy girl. That tells me as a pet owner my baby girl is being treated well and is loved. Thanks to everyone at Hillcrest!

William Suwada

We have been going here for 17 years and I promise you it will be hard to find better care for your pets anywhere. We have to move to another city and are going to have a hard time finding pet care half as good as what Hillcrest has provided. Dr's Ledbury, and Ambrose and their staff have been such a positive part of our lives that it saddens us to leave.

Purrs Wags

I used Hillcrest for my personal pets many years ago. I loved the Vets, but the front desk staff were always rude. That rudeness cost them. I formed a rescue. As my personal vet hospital I thought I would give them first refusal. I went in and was referred to the "office manager" when I asked about a rescue rate. Many Vets give rescues reduced rates due to the charitable nature of it, and because rescues do a volume business. Not to mention the tax benefits. I was laughed at my the woman and told it was hardly worth their time. (It wasnt the refusal but the laughing and denigrating manner in which she handled it..as if I were beneath contempt for asking) Great, I went elsewhere, am much happier, and I spend on the average of $12,000 a year on vet services for my rescue. In the 8 plus years since that happened that is close to $100,000 in actual revenue lost, as well as $100,000 in charitable tax deductions they can take by reducing their rate to a 501(c)3- by a rude "employee" who was on a power trip. I guess that is laughable after all, just not in the way she meant it.

Bakersttardis

Truly the best veterinary practice I've ever been to. Scheduling an appointment online was so convenient! The front desk staff was so kind and accommodating. Dr. Razer was knowledgeable, kind, and efficient. The prices are incredibly reasonable, especially compared to other local practices. They also have a rewards program, which I think is so unique and wonderful. I will always use this office for my pets in the future!

SUE FRYE

I have spent a lot of $ on my cats at this place. But I wouldn't take them anywhere else. Drs Smith and Ambrose are very caring and thorough. :)

I was recommended to this place for my cat. I called today around 1p.m. 6/5/2017 to make an appointment and the lady who answered the phone was very rude and abrupt. She seemed irritated to even be talking to me. I told her to forget it. I want to take my baby where he will be taken care of and treated kindly, so if the lady answering the phone was that rude and seemed that annoyed to be dealing with even making an appointment, there's no way, I would trust these people with my cat.

Cathy Sheridan

Wonderful vets and excellent animal care!!

Donna Kirkwood

We love Hillcrest Animal Hospital! The doctors and techs are compassionate and knowledge and make us feel very comfortable with the care of our pets. They treat our babies like their own. We couldn’t ask for more.

AGNKim

I will never bring my pets back to this Clinic ever again!!! Dr. Steven Ambrose started out being way too friendly with me, I mean very flirtatious!! He should have never behaved this way at his work! He costs this Clinic to lose money taking care of 2 of my pets. I also believe when he found what he called them, fat pockets on my oldest male Sheltie Jazzy. I do not believe he took a proper aspiration of the fat pocket, thus causing Jazzy to have to be put down this Feb 15th. due to cancer!!! He should have in my opinion, have mentioned surgery/treatment when we first discovered the fat pockets. Shame on you Dr. Steven Ambrose!!! Some people know the real person you are, sorry I had to be one of them!!!! Karen Lax

DEBRA MEEKS

I have been going to Hillcrest for going on 20 yrs now, from childhood pets to my new kitten in the family. I've moved to another part of town, but it's still worth driving back there. I've been impressed with the care and time that both Dr. Smith and Ambrose have given to my critters. The techs have been attentive and sweet to my kitties, and they've worked with me for different budgeting situations and harder times. I'm thankful that they've been there for my furry family.

Allison Reavis

It's always easy and quick to get in. The last time I came, I had my kids with me, and the vet techs helped me get in and out of the car with my dog. They are very friendly!
