I can’t thank the staff enough. My pup’s issue was pretty minor, but we had a difficult day leading up to the event had me rattled. Everyone was kind and compassionate they handled my buddy’s injury quickly and professionally. They took extra steps to make him as calm and comfortable as possible. Cost wasn’t more than I wouldn’t expect for the services rendered, especially for this type of facility. They were excellent at quoting prices before rendering service, my total was under the estimated price. Thank you for taking care of me and my furry best friend.

I took my yorkie here because she within 30 minutes had turned into a completely different pup. She went from playing and running around to not moving, throwing up, and breathing horribly. We immediately decided to take her to the Emergency Vet which was almost as bad as not taking her. When we got there they told us they thought she got into poison. They then told us they needed to run a ton of tests to tell them if she actually did which cost us a ton of money just for that. Then in the middle of their “tests” they tell us that 3 critical dogs came in and they were holding off on everyone else? When my pup could be poisoned? Well after all of the “tests” ran they tell us she isn’t poisoned and that she has aspiration pneumonia. They then said that they would figure up the estimate for the treatment and get back. Then they sent in a tech that had no idea of the situation and explained what the plan was with no actual knowledge making it seem like they would just treat her overnight, until early the next morning, and then we would be able to take her home and get her antibiotics. So my wife and I made the decision to spend the money to take care of her. Then another tech came in and told us that we should expect to have her in there at least until the following night but could be longer. So through questioning we came to the conclusion of keeping our little baby in the ER for the night and pick her up early the next morning and take her to a vet that has a air tank for her. When we made the decision they told me if there was something wrong or things take a turn for the worst we would hear from them that night and they seemed to be happy for our baby that we were keeping her there over night. We then go home and never hear anything throughout the night. The next morning we are excited to go get our baby. We knew we didn’t get a call so we figured things should be better or at the least not gotten worse. When we get to the ER a nice vet came out and informed us that our baby had gotten worse and that she will need oxygen. So we asked her several times what we would need to make sure happens if we took her to a vet. She then said that the vet has oxygen. My wife and I talked for several hours and called several vets. Then they had another shift switch and we got another doctor who was suppose to be a specialist. When we asked him questions he gave short and generic answers with no reasonings. We were told that talking with him wouldn’t cost us because it wasn’t an appointment. My wife asked him if he thinks she will get better and he said “I’m not God”. Very rude. He then left and we finally found a vet that had an oxygen tank. The rude doctor came back out and I told him we found a vet with an oxygen tank and he smiled, jumped up and said ok we will have her right out and have the bill put together for you. At this point I am late for work due to the fact that we didn’t get any answers. We wait another 30 mins and we finally get our baby, pay the bill (we were charged for talking to the doctor) and immediately leave feeling rushed out. The drive was 35 mins. On the way of driving our baby is breathing rough still. I am speeding trying to get her to the vet. We get about 25 mins out and I look down and she had died in my wife’s arms and we become hysterical. I ask you please if you have another choice then take your baby somewhere else. I understand that some have great experiences at this place but my baby didn’t deserve this kind of treatment nor does anyone else’s. If they weren’t money hungry and told us the actual situation and gave us a realistic chance of survival of our baby we could have ended her pain and said goodbye knowing that our choice was more than likely the right one.

Took our 10 y/o miniature pincher in because she got a bone stuck in her throat. She was seen immediately upon arrival and the Dr soon returned with small bone that was lodged in back of her jaw. It took a little longer to process paperwork and leave but there were others there waiting on their animals. Felt good to walk out with dog that was ok!

They took care of my baby and made sure he was safe. Down side was the pricing and options of payment were either you pay a lot now or you get a credit card for vet use only. There were no other payment plans.

I have lost two cats in the past two months at this place. 3k in the hole that i'll never get back and two dead cats. that's my experience with this place. THREE k and TWO dead cats.

Wonderful experience. They took care of our dog overnight and she was much better by the time we got her back the next day. They talked to us about the costs and gave us options before doing anything and best of all they take Scratchpay so we were able to pay out the cost of the ER trip. Without that option I’m not sure what we would’ve done for our pet. Very great experience here and I’d recommend them to anyone.

The vets and all the staff here have excellent bedside manners and commmunication skills. They checked back with us frequently when we came in for a diagnostic ultrasound. They accommodated us by examining our pet in the room with us, giving thorough, straightforward explanations of all test results. I was impressed with their competence and they were able to perform tests we couldn't get done elsewhere. The facility was clean, comfortable and calm. We were there during a weekday, so I'm sure when it gets busy, you might not get as much prompt and thorough attention. They are quite pricey, but we left the office with something no other vet has been able to give us, a much clearer idea of the root cause of our dog's chronic stomach ailments. I have nothing but gratitude for Dr Charney and Dr. Gary.

they were not very nice except one of the vet techs she was awesome and needs a pay raise. They tried to tell me my dog absolutely needed surgery so I took him to vet and he got to go home the next day all w meds and IV from the vet. The only reason I will ever bring my dog back there is if he is dying. other than that the prices are way too high. They only care about the money not the animal.

Took my dog to the ER considering she was in labor and having complications after pushing out 3. We were told that it would be a fee of $250 for emergency treatment and after paying that she wasn't seen until over an hour after us being check-in, doesn't quite seem like it was an emergency to them. No one came to give us an update on her until after I requested to get one considering it was over an hour. The customer service was NOT warm or welcoming and considering I'm in the customer service business myself, this is extremely important to me. I will not bring my dog baby here or advise anyone else to. After all the wait not one puppy was able to be saved, my mind can't help but wonder if they spent that hour delivering them and kept them! If you got this type of service your mind would think the worst as well!

Brought my dog here late afternoon on a Friday. I had actually stopped at another clinic that was closer. I walked in to that clinic and they immediately say it's going to be a long night ... Like what? I had told them on the phone my dog's eye problem was time sensitive if his ulcer had ruptured. Which is why I drove to an EMERGENCY vet to have them look at it even after my dog had been at the vet that very morning. They made me wait and when I asked again and made sure the guy at the desk knew it was time sensitive if it was ruptured they just kept saying it's going to be a long night, there's a surgery and two walk ins ahead of you... Where's the triage person to access situations ? Well needless to say I left after calling Arkansas Veterinary Emergency and Specialist. They told me they would send someone to look at my dog as soon as I got there. I walked in the door and they did. He then proceeded to take my dog back to a vet immediately. Which is what I wanted in an emergency vet to say the least not to sit for hours in an waiting room before my dog was even looked at. We were then sent to a room and they kept me informed as the looked over my dog and even went so far as to wake up the ophthalmologist to get his opinion. I was sent home with a bill under $150 and $60 of it was his medication. This is less than I spend at my usual vet. Very pleased with this clinic.

My dog needed stitches in his flank area after getting into a fight with his sister. We took him up there and they charged me $537 to stitch him up...I thought that was ridiculous but given it was a Sunday I had no choice. On the discharge papers the directions were to take the stitches out 7 to 10 days after the surgery...we waited 9! When we took them out there was still a hole at the very top of the incision! They charged me for cleaning the wound (p.s. which means to trim the dead skin around the wound bc without that it won’t heal) however where there is still a hole there is still dead skin which is why it wasn’t healed. We called up there bc I expected them to be apologetic and offer to try and fix it but their response was they can’t control if it is healed or not yet. Don’t take your pet here even if it’s dying.

I had to rush my old girl, Zeva, here a few months ago for emergency surgery. Her stomach flipped and I was a wreck. The staff here were extremely patient with me and very informative of every step of the procedure. They helped me understand what caused the flip, what they would be doing, recovery times, etc. They even fixed her for me while they were doing the surgery! After her *successful* surgery I asked one of the nurses if I could see her, but she was still pretty groggy. She took pictures of her for me and sent them, which I thought was very thoughtful and amazing. They allowed me to visit her over the next two days of her observation, for which I was very thankful because I missed her immensely. When she came home, they provided me with very clear instructions and answered every question I had. When she came in for her check up, it was like she was a celebrity! Just about everyone I saw came up to her to say and called her by her name. I just thought it was so awesome that so many people remembered her and told me how good of a girl she is. The surgery cost was very expensive, approximately $5,000. They helped me set up CareCredit so that I could pay it off in increments, which has helped me so much. The cost may seem like a lot, but this amazing staff saved my dog's life. And honestly, she's worth every cent of it. A huge thank you to everyone who helped my Zeva! I am grateful for every extra day I've gotten to spend with her since her surgery in June

Don't waste your time at this place. The service is absolutely terrible. We live in Mexico and Canada. We were travelling through the US and our dog was not eating and not feeling himself. We arrived at approx 8pm and left at 2am. It took 6 hours for an examination and blood test. I counted approx 5 pets all night and did not see any pets needing emergency surgeries. They had a lot of staff and also in between shift change. In my experience the vet does the examination in front of us and soon after the vet tech does the blood withdrawal. They did not do this, rather they took our dog into the back for many hours. Also, they did not do a blood test that included a Complete Blood Count and blood culture. I signed the discharge papers and it took 30 mins for them to return our dog. They wanted to do more testing but we did not want to stay another 6 hours. Needless to say we were happy to make it back to Canada. We went to a vet and she did and exam in front of us and she knew something was wrong, x-ray was done soon after. The whole process was done within the hour. This clinic is not ran efficiently. I would hate to see an emergency at this place as there is no sense of urgency or specialists here.

Michelle & Tanner, what can anyone say about these two gems of incompetence and disrespect except to say, ..."how in the world did anyone think that these two should ever be in a customer service position..." rude, dismissive, disrespectful and curt are but a few of the words that come to mind. I will never go back and will make certain that I tell anyone that I ever come into contact with to also stay away from this place. The doctor's do a great job, the problem is that the troll brigade at the front desk make a difficult situation worse for any pet owner who goes to this place seeking help for a sick pet.

This place is the WORST place EVER to take your pet!!! PERIOD!!! I took my puppy in, thought he had been hit by a car. They shuffle you into a room to discuss payment first. Not even wanting to look at your animal or their injury. Then we get into this room. They tell us it was going to be $500.00 for his vitals & X-Ray's. Then 3 to 4 thousand dollars to fix his leg had it had needed surgery? Are you kidding me? My exact words, i left upset. They had no compassion for me, my animal or my daughter crying in this room. I called around and found a Vet by the name of Dr. Hutto on Stagecoach. He was excellent, i will spare the details for his wonderful review i will give. My dog was never ran over, Just snake bit. And it was under $200.00 to put our boy back together again! I would not take my pet rat to this awful inhumane place.

After learning that I had to pay $65 to get an inquiry through ASPCA, I looked through all the clinics here here in Conway and not a single one had emergency phone numbers. I did not want to drive all the way up to Little Rock just for them to tell me my dog was okay. So, I decided to call, that wouldn’t hurt right? Well, when I called about whether I should be concerned for my dog they told me they could not tell me anything unless I went up there. That is very sad because I would have to drive an hour to there and then pay hundreds of dollars for them to tell me...”your dog will be okay” when a phone call for free was sufficient enough. If they would have told me “we would reccomend for you to come in, but for now you can watch your dog very closely and if anything changes immediately come here”. That would have got them business. But, because they didn’t do that they will not be getting my business and I will not recommend this place to anyone!

Use as a last resort only. My cat came in Sunday morning with a swollen leg from an animal bite of some kind. I brought him in and waited over 2 overs before seeing a doctor. I was told my cat needed to be put under anesthesia (very expensive) and have the wound lanced and debrided (very painful). The doctor did not know when she would be able to get to it and suggested I just leave him and she'd call me. I asked if we could try antibiotics and I could get him to his regular vet the next day. She RELUCTANTLY agreed and gave me oral antibiotics but was adamant that this was just avoiding the inevitable and he would have to have it lanced under anesthesia. Well I took him to his regular vet at Town and Country and was told that the procedure WAS COMPLETELY UNNECESSARY. He gave my cat an antibiotic injection (which was never offered to me at AVES as an option and is obviously preferable to giving a cat oral liquid meds for 2 weeks!!) and said he would be fine in a few days. So unless you have no other options, avoid this place IMO.

Unless your pet is needing lifesaving surgery or care, do not go here. I brought my dog due to an open wound on her stomach that would definitely need stitches. As the previous person made a comment about all they wanted to talk about was money first....well, the reason is because of sticker shock. I firmly believe that this clinic knows how much people care for and love their pets. Also knowing that we would take the time to bring our precious loved ones to them at midnight means that we would lay any price to see them healed, and I believe they take full advantage of that. The assistant kept repeating "well let's get a price on how much everything will be". I'm thinking, it's just a couple stitches so why are we so worried about prices? The vet then came in and said the same thing. Then she came back and told me $600 for what she called "a couple of sutures". Had my wife not been there it would have gotten ugly. We had one if our other dogs there with us to comfort the one needing stitches. We had to have her rear leg removed last year due to an accident. I told the vet that it literally cost the same amount to for us to remove our dog's leg, including all medicine and anesthesia, as it is for a couple of sutures! Her reply was simply, "I believe it". In the breakdown of the price, besides outrageously expensive sutures and anesthesia, there was an extra $150 fee "incase something happens during anesthesia". What?! Are you kidding me? So, we were charged $75 (their minimum fee) to tell us they were going to rip us off and we're not ashamed to do so. We went to a 24 hour pharmacy, got some open wound tape designed to help close wounds like she had, and some iodine. Cleaned it, taped it up, then brought her to Allpets clinic in Little Rock. For a few sutures, wound cleaning, reversible anesthesia, and all the medicine to go with it, was just under $200. I was more than happy to pay for that, and received top notch service! I could not in good conscience recommend bringing any pet her for any reason.

I was referred here by Pleasant Valley Animal Clinic, for a consultation for my cat who may need surgery. Pleasant Valley used anesthesia and found a mass that may need to be removed. The cost for that particular part of the appt was $45, as a point of reference.. At AR Veterinary Emergency & Specialists, the tech told me they needed to use anesthesia as well, at a cost of $100. That is over twice as much as what Pleasant Valley charged. AR Veterinary Emergency & Specialists also charges $154 for a consultation. I agreed to the $100 cost. After speaking with a tech, I also spoke with my cat's doctor about the cost for anesthesia, and mentioned what Pleasant Valley charged. He said $100 was an estimate, and it would likely cost a similar amount to Pleasant Valley. I was reassured. When I saw the total bill for $284, my heart sank. The anesthesia drugs cost $130, significantly more than $100, and definitely more than $45 at Pleasant Valley. This tells me that the tech and the doctor gave me wrong information, and/or they gave my cat too many drugs to put him under. Based on the positive reviews, I can see this business provides excellent care to pets. However, I am in my early 20s and need a provider who is honest with me about cost, AND will give my baby excellent care. I am not comfortable taking my cat here, and I am disappointed in the recommendation from Pleasant Valley Animal Clinic.

We were from out of town traveling when our four legged family member took a turn for the worse. They were close and saw us right away, I wasn't the easiest to deal with, big man with a tiny dog that meant the world to him type of person, but the we're professional and courteous and did all they could. Unfortunately he didn't make it and we had to let him go. They treated him and us with the utmost respect. Yes it is more expensive but I don't feel they overcharged me and they did all they could for us.

Lenny Hoover

Everyone there is very nice. One of the girls at the front desk saw that I was having trouble with my truck and came out and helped. She was able to retrieve the oil filler cap that I had dropped and had trouble reaching. My little maltipoo was taken care of very well and I was kept informed about her status.

Stacy Duvall

Great people and fantastic service. Our 12 year old shih-tzu Scrappy was having issues breathing and a nasty cough. He received first rate care. Highly recommend these people!

Took my 5 1/2 year old cat to them and they determined that she needed a transfusion. Because they didn't have blood available, they suggested that I go the the Memphis location!!! They wouldn't call any local vets to see if they had any feline blood! Needless to say, I took her to the NLR emergency vet but by the time we could get blood, it was too late. I had spent precious hours at this clinic that could've been spent actually helping my baby somewhere else. I met 2 people that were compassionate here, the vet on duty at the time was an idiot and slow to act. I will never take an animal here again! All they want is your money! Just go to NLR and save yourself and your pet a lot of pain.

Took our fur baby in Sunday night 9/3/17 at 8:00 because his testicles were extremely swollen and he had a puss discharge. Filled out paperwork and in just a little bit we were in a room where it all wend downhill! For 4 hours we sat in the exam room and the only thing that happened was a vet came in and examined his testicles, a tech came in and got him, took him to the back and took his temperature and brought him back. After 2 hours yet another vet came in and started telling us it could be cancer or twisted cutting off blood flow and she wanted to do some tests but the tests wouldn't be able to be sent off until Tuesday (after the holiday). She said they would do an ultrasound. No one ever came back. No blood work, no urinalysis NOTHING! We finally left at 11:45p. As we were leaving the tech came out from the back and said "oh I'm just coming to get him". We told her we had contacted our vet, she told us what to do for him that night and that she would see us at our regular clinic the next day, which was a holiday and her day off!!!!! The tech just happily said "ok" and started to walk away. I told her it was ridiculous to wait that long and not one thing was done to see if he had an infection or what. The tech then tried to tell us "well, I just had a dog have a seizure". REALLY, what have you been doing for the last 3 hours! Not one person employed at the AVES had ANY compassion for our fur baby. On top of it they charged us $87! If I didn't have to click on a star to post I wouldn't!

Our dog Charlie suddenly started acting strange after eating a piece of pork that had fallen on the floor. He was pacing and acting as though he had to vomit and defecate at the same time, he was shaking and it was a very sudden reaction. After about five minutes he vomited white foam so we rushed him to this clinic. THANK GOODNESS WE DID!!! The staff was AMAZING... no other word describes. After a quick but efficient evaluation and x-ray we discovered he would need emergency surgery for "flipped stomach" or "bloat". This can be a dangerous condition if not treated promptly. From the moment we brought him to the clinic to the moment we picked him up three days later, he had a staff member by his side the whole visit. We would have paid any amount of money needed to save his life but the way the staff and doctors treated him during his stay was absolutely priceless. I wish we could take him there for regular treatment but I'm so relieved to know they are there 24/7 for emergencies.

Our Golden was very sick and having symptoms that were scaring us. Breathing wrong, sweaty paws, pain. Went to this vet ER and placed in a room. NO ONE even came to check on him for over 2 hours. At this point a lady entered the ER with her dog in about the same condition as ours. She was offered, by staff, to pay an additional $59.00 to be seen before us and we have 3 witnesses. We were never even offered this "SHADY DEAL". Then after they took her dog directly to the back, we were told it would be another 2-4 hours. We will NEVER return here. Our dog could have died. And owner do not try to post some cheesy apology. You can not apologize for this treatment. After reading the other reviews it looks like we were not the only victims.

Aaron Ellington

Rushed my dying dog there from Bryant on a Sunday, 4-5 hr wait accrued in a 15 min span of talking to them on the phone , and driving 90 mph to get there. Rudest “B” I’ve ever spoken to in my life sitting on her big butt at the front desk. I swear I almost let her catch these hands y’all . Do not ever take any animal there . Omg that “you know what “ at the front desk has got me soooo triggered y’all .

Our Kitty Jingles was a very sick kitty when we took him in Sunday morning June 2nd. We felt he received the best care possible and we were kept updated and given itemized amounts for necessary procedures. Our Jingles did not make it. They were all very kind and gave us a cast of his paw prints and a sweet card. My grandson asked for the blanket Jingles had been using. They gave it to him. It meant so much. I do recommend them when your fur baby has an emergency.

Called to ask if I should bring my aussie in or try to give a benadryl to relieve some of the swelling. ( think he was stung by something) was told they couldn't tell me anything over the phone to just google it..

Sam Ault

Took our 15yo shih tzu in after she developed a uti over the weekend. It’s pricy but when you think you might lose your pet it’s well worth it. Dr Van Pelt was terrific. The wait was long but understandable after the massive power outages.

Sara Pruisner

The staff and Veterinarian, Dr. Van Pelt, were so understanding and helpful. We were secure that our Benji was getting the best care. Bladder stones were the issue and Dr. VanPelt took excellent care of him.

Doctors were great dog had bumps from head to tail they took care of her right away and in 45 minutes most of the bumps we're gone and we sent home all other vets were too busy could not see us for a couple of days unless we had an appointment sure glad Arkansas Veterinary hospital was there

Christopher Hillman

So caring and compassionate! I am so thankful for their service. I was travelling when my 11 week old puppy got bit by a much larger dog and suffered a broken jaw. Everyone was so professional and sympathetic; the front desk attendants, the vet tech, the ICU coordinator, the surgery coordinator, the vet, and the surgeon all made us feel like we were in good hands. They helped me with follow up questions even after I got back home. These people go the extra mile. I normally do not write reviews, but their service was so excellent that I felt the least I could do was take 5 minutes to write a review.

Joey Benton

We just lost our little one. She fought pneumonia with all her might and the doctors here helped her have every chance. Our little sidekick had been with us night and day for seven years so it was hard for us to leave her here overnight but we were confident that she was being taken care of. She went peacefully with her family around and we can rest easy knowing that we gave her every chance to make it through.

Andrea at Arkansas Veterinary Emergency & Specialists just knocked it out of the park in customer service as well as treatment and care for my newly adopted pit, Darla. I recently lost my best Buddy to a heart condition at a young age, and I was certain that having to seek after hours urgent care for my new dog was going to be a stressful experience. However, Andrea and the rest of the staff had such a positive, genuinely kind and helpful attitude - not only did they get us taken care of quickly, but I believed they meant it when they said she was perfect! I work with dogs as a groomer, and I’ve received a range of good and bad services from animal care professionals. I immediately trusted this staff with my girl, and am so grateful for the experience we had. The work they do is tough - doing it with a good attitude is even harder. Thank you for the extra effort.

PAMELA ALLEN

We brought our dog in about 11:30 pm because our dog was vomiting, shaking, restless, and he kept putting his behind in the air. We never even got to talk to or meet the veterinarian. Some girl asked us about his symptoms, then she took our dog to the back. She came back with a list of charges for various tests and told us it was like a menu...you just pick what you want. I asked to speak to the doctor, but apparently you don’t get to do that unless you agree to $500 worth of tests first. I would have liked to discuss his symptoms before we decided what we need to do. I was never even told how his exam in the back went. I would have given this place 0 stars if it were possible. Next time we will drive to NLR to go to the other emergency pet clinic.

Emani Richardson

Apparently there was a 2-3 hour wait and no one told me when I checked my dog in. I called earlier and told them that my dog had just been attacked and she’s bleeding a lot from her neck especially all on their furniture. I’m still currently waiting with my dog going on hour number 2 and she’s still bleeding. Probably has an infection now. Would not recommend for emergencies. All this time, I could have patched her up myself.

Charles Van Deventer

Our 18-y/o pup got out through an open gate and was hit by a car on a Friday evening. We brought her in to see if there was anything that could be done for her. Exam and x-ray showed four pelvis fractures. We made the tough choice to say goodbye. The folks here were kind, caring, attentive, and patient. Charges were very reasonable and similar to what we would have paid in a non-emergency circumstance. I would not hesitate to use their services again and highly recommend them.

Celle Duffel

We have had to use their services twice but with two different fur babies...each time they were totally great and the two doctors were really good and they spend their time with you explaining what's going on. I can't thank them all enough from walking in till we walk out!!!

They were there when we needed them, but dam, care costs :(

Thanks to aves I have had to use them twice in the last month and they are the Best most caring place I have ever been to with my pets far surpassing the compassion and care of my normal vet's office I wish they had a normal vetrinary practice there too. Also some of the people on here rating them one and two stars don't seem to realize this is an emergency room for your dog or pet there are other pet emergencies other than your it's no different than you going to the ER you are going to have less priority than the dog that just came in choking on a ball !

Gina Benezue

Spent 5 hours waiting, for a blood test & antibiotic shot for A grand total of $456. Person's dog next to me was put to sleep when owner specifically requested for that not to be done without talking to her first. Three animals went down while I was there. My cat was left in his crate the entire 5 hours and brought back to me reaking of urine. He was soaking wet. I will never recommend this place or ever go back again. Fees are extremely high, the vet told one person they were not trained on giving the ultrasound a boxer needed & basically sent their dog home to die. I was there on a Saturday night

Alisa Lancaster

The best staff! We have utilized ortho and ophthalmology for our dogs.

Kerry Thomas

The staff was great..And, my dog is back to being himself;)

Krystyna Reinhardt

Choose another location if you have a fur baby emergency. I live out of town as it is. This was closest. I would rather choose a further location with better service than this place. I was lied to three times. They took my dog to the treatment area. After an hour they have done nothing with my dog but keep her back there. I would rather her be with me. Very uncaring team here. I have now been here the longest out of everyone that I’ve seen come and go. And some with the same conditions as my pet. Not worth my hard earned money nor the sleepless night that I’m getting.

William Grigson

This is a place to go if you have an emergency. I would not recommend taking a pet here unless it was a true emergency. The professionalism is OK - but the cost is extremely high. Their charges also vary based on the individual providing treatment. This is unnecessary, unfortunate, and, in my opinion wrong. I did not think they were good at all with customer relations. They disappear for hours with no reception person in the lobby. They were poor in providing updates on treatment progress. If you do not care to know what is going on with your pet during an emergency that causes you to seek care during the dead of night, then this is a great place to go. The vet on duty, when I had to take my girl in was polite and nice, but I only saw her once,as I recall, in the five hours I was there - and the receptionist was only present less than ten minutes of the five hours I was in the waiting room. There were no other emergencies after my arrival. When I checked out I was not provided an itemized bill. I had to obtain one later. They did provide one after I requested it.

Concerned Citizen

Can we discuss how the manager here is a joke? I wanted to express some concerns I had about the treatment my pet received and the incompetent manager (Meghan Porter) would never speak with me or return my email. When you call she is either not in the office, or is busy, what kind of manager is not in the office on a Tuesday at 11am, or Wednesday at 3pm, or Thursday at 1pm? When I questioned her professionalism one of the receptionist stated she took the job after being let go from another clinic, did this company not reference her?? Never going back here and I will be speaking to the state veterinary board.

After spending $600 + at our local Vet trying to address our dog's skin condition we had almost given up hope. Traveled FOUR hours to see Tina Brown DVM. She took a skin scraping (for culturing) and phoned us a few days later asking where to send the prescription. CURED in three weeks. Worth every mile traveled and every dollar spent.

Casey Garretson

I took my puppy here several months ago because he had a rare swallowing condition, and ended up he had to stay a couple nights at the hospital. I had to prepay before we could leave him overnight, which was fine, but after the weekend we ended up having to put him down because he wasn't getting better and he couldn't eat. I don't blame them for this at all, but since I prepaid, they ended up refunded me some money. That was the only good part, but it was about 3 weeks later I get another BILL in the mail from them saying I owed them like $500. I was very upset because I had been refunded and told I don't owe anything else, and then they decide they messed something up with billing and sent me a bill 3 weeks after my puppy already died. The treatment was fine, but the price was already a lot before they decided to charge me and extra $500 3 weeks after the fact.

After calling 7 vets in the Benton/Bryant area for a potential emergency, all of them being too busy to help, I called Arkansas Veterinary Emergency and took my cat there. They were so very kind, patient, and understanding of my worry. They didn't belittle me or make me feel like I was crazy over a cat. The exam fee was a bit expensive ($96), which is respectable for an emergency clinic and worth having the piece of mind knowing my cat was going to be okay. They also gave me a free dose of flea/worm medication for her. All around I really recommend this clinic because of their caring and kind staff. The clinic itself was very clean and modern. Thank you to the staff for helping me and my cat Sushi!!

Brett Cowles

Sad night!Had to say goodbye to an old and dear friend! Staff was amazing and so empathetic!

I brought my dog in recently because his tail was bleeding and very infected. They told me it was a "hot spot" gone bad and gave him pain medication and penicillin. They didn't wait to see if he would have a reaction to the anti-biotic and sent us home. I called later and told them I thought he was having a reaction and they said they would have the vet call me back, but NO ONE ever called back. Finally, we went back to the ER and AGAIN they told us it was not an emergency, never was an emergency and they gave him pain medicine and something to stop the itching. I took my dog to his regular vet the next day and it turned out that it was an emergency! He had been bitten by a brown recluse and he was dying! They had to amputate his tail to save his life and he was very close to septic! $2500 later, we saved him. I have tried for 3 weekends in a row to talk to the nurse who cared for him at the clinic. Every time they would tel me she "wasn't there". Yesterday I called and they told me she was working tonight and so I called tonight and she conveniently is "no longer employed". I said, "right" because i knew they were lying. They also WAY overcharged me and when they said they would give us a discount for having to go back twice in a row, the front clerk lied and said she never said that, even though there were witnesses. Long story short - these incompetent idiots almost cost my dog his life! He is still recovering and because they didn't do anything for him, he may have lifelong complications. When I called back to tell the doctor he almost killed my dog, they said, "it wasn't an emergency" and they stand by that. Since when is sepsis and an emergency amputation NOT an emergency?! These people are dangerous and not to mention they took my baby in the back and left me in the room for hours and no one told me what was happening, only to find out they just had him in a cage and were tending to other animals. Also, I brought my kitten in to see them 3 years ago because she was very sick. Her body temperature was incredibly low and she was having diarrhea. They sent us home. I went back the next day (like i did above with my dog) and they gave me instructions on how to care for her at home and some syringes to feed her fluids. SHE DIED THE NEXT DAY! Because of them my cat is dead, whose name was Paisley Rose. My vet told me if they had kept her overnight, either nights, she would still be alive!! This facility needs to be shut down! They are a danger to society and their pets! HORRIBLE HORRIBLE HORRIBLE!! I'd rate NO stars if it would let me!

David Shuck

Just like every vet around here. They are not worth a s***. I had a emergency situation n all I got was referred one number after the other so had to watch my cockatiel fight for his life for 5 hours as I tried resecatating him. Staff is NOT trained . Nor helpful. They are only good at giving numbers

Melanie Haas

We called AVES because they were the emergency number listed on our vet's website. Our bearded dragon was in significant distress and gasping for breath, and the person we talked to on the phone said to bring her in. We drove all the way across town, only to not have anyone at the desk, so we couldn't get in until a kind pet parent waiting for word on their baby let us in. We waited for a few minutes for someone to show up at the desk, and when no one did, I called them while standing at the desk to try and get someone to talk to. When she finally showed up, she said that they don't see bearded dragons, only cats and dogs. When we tried to ask her what to do, she just repeated that they don't see exotics. They could have done SOMETHING. They could have given her oxygen or antibiotics, or called around to other vets to try to get her some help. Instead, the desk person looked at me while I was in tears over my beardie, who was barely breathing, and when I said "She's dying! What do we do?" she said "Take her somewhere else. We don't see lizards." I will never take a pet there. Anyone who has that little compassion for an animal just because she has scales instead of fur is not worthy of the title of vet. If they had helped at all, my baby might still be with us.

It's always such a scary situation when your pet is sick and you want to make sure the people who are working on your pets care about them as much as you do. I was referred by Dr. Alex Beam at Parkway Animal Hospital since it was the weekend and he had Parvo puppies and didn't want our dog, Bentley to get infected. We came in and the nurse was very compassionate and did some testing and Dr. Andrews came out after examining Bentley and told us exactly the next steps to get our puppy in a better spot with IV fluids, what kind of medicine they would give him, etc. I ended up asking for an X-Ray although he really didn't need one based on what they found but just wanted that peace of mind. They didn't want to do it as it was an extra charge unless they thought it was necessary or we requested one and I thought that was very honest and transparent of them. I felt that all of the staff I was in contact with were all very compassionate for Bentley and they NEVER made me feel that I was an inconvenience for calling for status updates on him as he had to stay overnight. Yes, it was expensive because it's an emergency clinic, but they did give me a range and I ended up having a credit which was great but not expected. I would rather them be upfront rather than surprised and they never did anything of that sort. I would HIGHLY recommend them to anyone who is looking for a compassionate, competent and truly incredible staff for any situation with your pet that requires urgency. It was worth every penny to see our puppy get better.

Years ago I had taken our beloved pet to a different emergency clinic and we were unable to save him. Later we adopted a stray and raised and loved her until she just couldn't. We brought her to AVES for her final car ride. I didn't realize just how poorly we were treated at the previous business until we experienced the caring staff here. These guys are at the top of the chart.

Great people. Very patient with our large family while we said goodbye to our baby.

Nancy Park

They wanted between $2000 and $2900 to do a c-section on a 15 pound dog. My vet does the same c-section for less than $400! These people are fleecing desperate people in an emergency situation. They should certainly get a premium for providing a late night service, but that is ridiculous! Don't go here unless you just have no other choice. They should be ashamed of themselves for taking advantage of other folks' tragedy.

Scott Byers

Thanks to aves I have had to use them twice in the last month and they are the Best most caring place I have ever been to with my pets far surpassing the compassion and care of my normal vet's office I wish they had a normal vetrinary practice there too. Also some of the people on here rating them one and two stars don't seem to realize this is an emergency room for your dog or pet there are other pet emergencies other than your it's no different than you going to the ER you are going to have less priority than the dog that just came in choking on a ball !

Kayla Williams

Absolutely heartbreaking to drive two hours after calling several times to make sure everything was good to go before arriving for help with my VERY ill morkie to be told they cannot help us at all because of computer issues. As I was pushed out of the clinic tonight after waiting three hours I'm very upset and sit stressing not knowing if my sweet baby will make it through the night. I'm very surprised that absolutely no test could be given even with a $600 cash deposit offered to run a few test. I offered the deposit and said I would take the remaining money left over after the computer system came back up. I just cannot believe that absolutely nothing was offered to us. My family is in absolute shock and are left with no answers!! I hope this doesn't happen to anyone else..

Alisa Lancaster

The best staff! We have utilized ortho and ophthalmology for our dogs.

The staff was great..And, my dog is back to being himself;)

Wouldn't even give me any immediate action to take after my dog was bitten by a snake. Money hungry insensitive jerks.

If you value your Pet this is not the place to go. No bedside manner's, no common courtesy or feelings towards a sick animal. I took may sick dog there all they were worried about was when they were getting their money and then they would discuss The procedures that needed to be done. After I left there with my pet They never called to check on him or act even halfway worried about him while he was there. Next time I'll drive further to go to a different hospital. Not recommended at all.

Our Guinea pig was suffering and we needed help on Sunday 4/2/2017. The man that answered the phone told us they would not help us even though it says "no matter the animal we are here to help you". The man said they would need to consult with the vet but then acted like he didn't want to my husband asked him to do that, then he was placed on hold and noone EVER returned back to answer our question. They refused to help us!!! Just because it's a guinea pig DOES NOT mean she is not just as much a part of this family as a cat or dog, how could you be a vet a refuse help?!

I had to take my 13 1/2 year old in on 2-11-17 at around 9:10pm ish. I had an idea of what was going on with her but I needed to know for sure. Unfortunately, her normal vet at Banfield Pet Hospital in LR gave her a clean bill of health 8 days earlier (btw-I will be pursuing legal action against them.) I walked into the ER clinic and the Tech immediately sees that my dogs stomach is severely swollen and proceeds to hand me a form that states it'll be at least $250-500 minimum and that this MUST be paid. I'm devastated because I can't afford that let alone that the treatment most likely won't fix the problem. This action also confirms my fear that she is beyond saving. I feel like a failure to my dog and I am immediately brought to tears as I felt that I have let my dog down (she's my babygirl after all.) I tell the Tech I cannot pay that amount and I am just beside myself with guilt an pain. My poor dog has anxiety now because I'm upset coupled with the fact that she's in a vets office (she's not a fan.) The tech asks for help and they ask to at least do an xray ($81) plus the walk-in fee ($75.) I tell them I can do that. The vet comes in and tells me the bad news. He's very kind about it, shows me the xrays and offers to give me a temporary script to ease her pain until I can arrange for her euthanasia. This is truly a warm-hearted gesture because I didn't know if she'd be coming home with me or not. We pay our bill of $183 and come home with medicine and spend the next few days just showering her with love. Her health landslides and she's put to sleep on 2-14-17. I miss her.

Anytime a medical place has emergency in it, it’s going to cost you money. Now you need to decide if your animals life is worth it. I’m not putting anyone down if you can’t or you won’t. We decided it was worth it, well worth it. They give your animal an assessment to figure out what was wrong and that is going to cost you. After our animal was assessed, he was given at least 24 hours in the hospital with round the clock doctors (more than 1) looking after him. He lived and is very healthy today almost 2 weeks later he is as good as new. The cost was about what we would have spent if a human went to the emergency room without any extreme tests or anything. We wouldn’t know how to go on without our 2 year old terrier. BTW- No vet in Bryant would even see him, they were too busy with their own surgeries and work that day. Top notch service.

Gill Rogers

We had to bring our 16 year old Jack Russell in to be put to sleep. She had suffered two seizures and what we thought was a stroke, and was disoriented and yelping when we arrived. They immediately took her back and gave her a small amount of sedative to reduce stress and calm her. We told them that if she could be treated to the point where she could continue to interact with the family, feed and water herself, etc., then we wanted the treatment. With congestive heart failure, neurological damage, blindness from cataracts, and uncontrolled yelping, it was clear that the best thing for her was for us to let her go. The staff and Doctor were caring, kind, and considerate in making us feel the best we could about a tough decision. I hope I don’t ever need an emergency vet again, but if I do I know where to go.

Allen Winkler

Dr. Van Pelt and the staff were beyond compassionate and accommodating during a tough time for us and our dog. They were honest and very helpful in making hard decisions.

I took my puppy here because he had eaten a stick that got stuck coming out. Poor thing was in so much pain and his bottom was cut and swelling. We arrived here around 6 PM and did not leave until 1 AM. I completely understood that his situation was not "life or death" so he was pushed towards the back of the line and that was understandable. Over all, the experience was okay. I would have to say that I unhappy with how they went about the situation. It took over an hour to actually have someone LOOK at him, so during this time, his bottom became so inflamed and swollen, it looked as if his rectum was on the outside of his body. The longer we waited, the worse it got. Three hours after waiting, they took him in to be looked at and I got a, "It's worse than we thought." Obviously.. Be prepared to spend a pretty penny. A tech came in to read us our quote and we were up to $600. Mind you, I love the little guy more than I can say, but $600 to remove a piece of a stick? No can do. We finally spoke with the vet, I believe her name was Dr. S... I will say that I enjoyed her. She was very friendly and made us feel very comfortable. We were able to remove blood work and other fees that were additional. Our total came out to $330. Be aware that you do not need everything they quote you for. Did I need X-Rays for him? Probably not. Blood work? No. Over all, it's a wait and it's a good chunk of change. My experience wasn't terrible and my fur baby is doing great. I read the reviews and took a chance. Majority of the workers there are really great and it's a nice place, I just wish they would have at least looked at him sooner. Good luck to you all!

Be aware. This place is great to get you in if you have an emergency with your pet because of their close location. They play into the fact that you are scared about your fur baby and want to get them checked quickly. This is what will happen: you will call them and ask them if you should be bringing your pet in. Of course they will say yes (they want your money). They will tell you that it is only $96 to get them checked. You will think this is absolutely great and that at that price there is no way you shouldn’t be taking them in—better safe than sorry. When you get there they will take you pet back to be examined. A little worried they’ll make you wait and then come back to let you know they need a $250 deposit, but whatever doesn’t get used they will reimburse. (This is the point where you’ll think your dog is okay because $250 doesn’t seem too bad but they’re planning on not using it all so that’s fine!) this is where they will proceed to treat your dog for everything and anything in order to rack up the bill. After 1 hour of us being there (and never seeing our dog) the bill had gone from $96—$250—$700–$1350—$2400 in a matter of minutes. They just kept telling us that they may not need to use it all since he was doing well. They kept calling us and telling us he was fine and that we could pick him up earlier than expected, here we thought we’d be getting our fur baby back and a few hundred dollars back since he didn’t stay the extra days. NOPE! We now owe more money before we can pick our dog up. Needless to say: don’t bring your dog here unless your willing to spend way more than $96.

Took my puppy here, I liked the treatment plan and the night shift vet here. But the day shift vet Jessica, got bit by our 10 week old puppy coming out of sedation. Then recommends obedience training to us. A. It's a puppy b. The field you work in has potential hazards with sedatives, why were you messing with the dog in the first place when he is waking up. C. Your "bite" put my dog in 10 day rabies care for a bs reason. You're a joke and should give up your license. 10/10 nightshift vet. 1/10 day shift vet

Roger Williams

Ok. If you are worried that your pet needs medical attention fast, and you are even worried he/she may die, do NOT go here and expect sympathy or comfort. DO expect to have someone tell you its all your fault and you are a bad parent. Thats what we experienced the only TWO times we have needed help after regular vet hours. I know these people are trying to teach but there is a way to do that with compassion. If at all possible, just wait and go to your regular vet and avoid this unhealthy help!!!!

Dee Elkins

A huge ripoff for people that are in emergency care for their fur babies. They push unnecessary procedures and charge you for things that didn't happen and won't return your calls. My story: my ex took one if his cats in, found to gave a urinary tract blockage and were to keep him overnight for fluids, but he died less than an hour after he was left, but the bill included the nights stay and when the clinic was called to ask about a refund they never returned the calls.

So glad there is now an animal emergency facility in the heart of WLR, five minutes from home. No more highway 430, driving 90 like a maniac. The architectural aesthetics of the building are soothing, the color palette designed to promote calm. Very zen. Good start, since my Pit was uncomfortable, and I was a mess. (Continue reading) Check-in procedure immediate, and we were quickly in a room with a Vet Tech asking questions and examining our boy. I begin to relax. The Doctor came in next, heard our concerns and the Tech's results, and took our boy off to administer a snap test. I feel very positive. Everyone there, from staff to surgeon, was so kind and chill. It's hard to be emotionally overwrought when surrounded by such calmness from true professionals. I went from tears to elation in a very short time. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS FACILITY.
